Alas, the time for me to leave New York City has arrived. With a move to sunny Southern California in the works for next month, I am totally excited to explore a new city and to have access to incredible beaches and to bask in perpetual nice weather…but it’s no secret that there are a list full of things that I will dearly miss from the place I’ve called home over the past eight years. Great food, great friends…and yes, of course, great fashion.

As a tribute to one of the most stylish cities in the world, I will leave you with some of my favorite shopping haunts that I’ve frequented over the years that have helped to shape my closet from season to season.

Affordable Chains: For great basics and trendy finds, I’ve loved shopping at international giants like UNIQLO, H&M, MNG and Zara. With expansive selections and not-so-daunting price tags, these were my “go-to’s when I was just starting out in the city.

Cheap Finds: Being a bargain shopper at heart, I’ve spent many an afternoon browsing the racks at Loehmann’s, Filene’s Basement, Century 21, What Goes Around Comes Around, and of course the daily mix of sample sales by some of my favorite designers. Nothing beats getting your hands on a rare Marchesa dress or Botkier bag at a fraction of the price!

Boutique Shopping: I can’t even count the number of times I’ve spent hopping from store to store in uber-trendy SoHo on a nice day. Accumulating shopping bags from Big Drop, Barneys Coop, Intermix, and Atrium have put a few dents on my credit card over the years.

High-End Department Stores:
Although I do love a sale, scanning the various departments of incredibly immaculate and designer-boasting stores like Barney’s, Bergdorff Goodman and Henri Bendel have lead to life-altering purchases and splurges that have become staples in my wardrobe and that still cause my eyes to light up every time I see them hanging in my closet.

Although I am sure that SoCal will offer it’s own line-up of great shops and its own fashionability, I think NYC’s incredible variety, all within twenty some square miles will always make it my fashion stomping ground at heart.
