We love it when the claws come out in the fashion world, although we don’t believe Valentino meant anything malicious by his comments regarding Raf Simons’ potential employment at Dior.

Valentino just isn’t so sure that Jil Sander’s Raf Simons would be the best person to continue from where John Galliano left off.

“I’m not sure – it’s an amazing job, I don’t know if he would be the right person for it,” Valentino told Vogue. “John Galliano is difficult to replace. I think it’s important not to jump into things. It needs to be a logical continuation of the brand. But who am I to say anything? I guess we all just have to wait and see.”

Nicely said – and very diplomatic of him. We too noted that if Raf Simons took over, Christian Dior would have a very different feel to it as his designs are far more futuristic and modern compared to the classic, clean silhouettes, prints and palettes found under Galliano’s direction.

As Valentino said, we will have to wait and see how things unfold.
