Stella sells seriously

“My one-off collection for H&M is pretty much like the pieces I do for my own signature collection. It is built around separates. Styling is key.” – Stella McCartney Yesterday Stella McCartney for H&M went on sale in 400 stores around the world and sold like mad! There are various reports of crazy women frantically fighting to get through the doors of the H&M store in Oxford circus, London and similar stories from New York and Amsterdam too. Described by one shopper as resembling “feeding time in the hyena cage” fans stocked up quickly and the stores had to restock even quicker to keep up with the demand However stores in Milan and Paris didn’t experience the manic buying as many women weren’t too impressed with the collection. Meanwhile Citigroup analysts not expecting the line to do very well, cut the rating on the shares of Hennes & Mauritz ( owner of the stores selling the McCartney line ) to “sell” from “hold” as analysts predicted 34yr old Stella would have little impact on sales. Considering Stella’s designs usually sell for a mini fortune, it was no wonder that women wanted to snap up the bargains, however a big worry was that prices of the pieces would be too high compared to H&M’ normal prices and the quality would be compromised. Nevertheless this undeterred many, who prior to the sale, fully checked out the collection on the website and knew exactly what they would be purchasing. Stella’s success follows in the footsteps of Lagerfield who also designed a collection for Hennes & Mauritz which too sold out within hours of going on sale. [H&M]

Gwen needs a good defense

Poor Gwen Stefani (well not so poor…) is getting slammed left, right and center. Both Madonna and Margaret Cho have hit out at Stefani. Madonna has accused her of stealing her style while Cho isnt too happy with her Harajuku girls. Both very valid points, but you just cant help but love the girl….

Heidi Klum lovin it

This is a bit of an odd story, only earlier this week Heidi Klum was quoted by contactmusic.com as saying that she feeds her 14 month old daughter Leni off her own plate as her food is more nutritious than canned baby food. However Heidi is now one in the recent line of celebrities that fast food chain McDonalds has enlisted to promote the “I’m lovin it” slogan. If she’s anything like Cindy Crawford who claims she cant touch the stuff, then we doubt the supermodel has actually tasted a hamburger in quite a while.

Lindsay Lohan’s Weight Loss

How true this is, I can’t be sure, but it’s reported that Supermodel Kate Moss, best friend Sadie Frost and actress Lindsay Lohan enjoyed a weight loss weekend away together at an exclusive spa. If correct then I have to ask “What weight????” What’s happening to certain women in celebrity land is absolutely ridiculous. Nicole Richie is so skinny she looks as if she’s just about to break in two, Mary-Kate Olsen just looks ill and Lindsay Lohan has already collapsed. Whether due to her weight we don’t know, but either way it can’t be a good sign. Yes, there has always been pressure on Hollywood women to look thin, and we always seem to go through periods where anorexia is constantly talked about and suddenly all coverage of the illness dies down. But now it’s been all over the media for quite a while and most of all it’s very scary. Not only for the young girls who look up to these stars but for the stars themselves. Richie and Lohan are bearing the brunt of it, with Lohan receiving a petition signed by 12,500 of her fans asking her to fatten up and Richie having to constantly defend herself, deeming her sudden loss of weight to her regular workouts with her trainer. There is no doubt that these girls are working out but there is also no denying that they don’t look well. According to the Daily Mail, the hourglass figure is back in fashion. Let’s hope so!

Madonna, Lady of the Manor

Keen to shed the image of her raunchy past, Madonna has repackaged herself as lady of the manor in a feature story with Vogue in August. Pictures included in the article are, Madonna feeding chickens while looking very Grace Kelly and posing on a horse next to husband Guy Ritchie. The 46yr old star describes England as her home and prefers to be there rather than in America. “I was a very selfish person. You go through periods of your life where the world does revolve around you, but you can’t live your whole life that way,” she is quoted as saying. “On the other hand, I kind of admire my spunk and directness!” Hindustan Times

Dress me up, Dress me Down

Liberty Ross will feature in a live, interactive photo shoot on SHOWstudio.com on 28, 29 & 30th of June. Inspired by the live, pornographic video chats widely available on the web, the model is the focus of a free ‘feature show’ for which there will be live video feed. Effectively, it will act as SHOWstudio’s interactive ‘collections story’ for the Autumn/Winter ’05-6 season. SHOWstudio viewers will have a chance to dress Liberty, acting as her ‘virtual stylist’ in turns. Stylist Jonathan Kaye will select the clothing from collections and it is our plan to let viewers familiarise themselves with the chosen garments in advance of the event. This first aspect of dressing the model will be balanced against a second part where Nick Knight will slowly undress the model, photographing the gradual ‘unravelment’ of outfits ‘on the round’, using a turntable. The production of this project will be supported with additional project elements including a video diary authored by Liberty, source material from Jonathan, films documenting Liberty ‘on set’ over the past five years and commissions that focus on the pornographic genre that inspire the piece.

Battle of the best dressers

I really like this comment… A new comment has been posted on your blog My Fashion Life, on entry #1034 (Learning from the Japanese). Name: Uncle C Email Address: gynuwine_article@hotmail.com URL: Comments: I will agree that far east asians have a unique and captivating sense of style, but to say that they are the best dressed in the world is an overstatement. What about the Italians, bella? An Italian once told me that even the poorest Italian dresses like a milionnaire! The French ‘mon amie’ are innovators in both fashion and hairstyling, for instance to give a hairstyle class, French braids sounds more credible than Japanese braids! No disrespect to Japanese braids, love y’all! Black people also have style that is envied worldwide and benchmarked upon. An article in the times had ‘From Milan, to Paris to Brixton’. (yes it’s true the Italians are very well dressed and extremely stylish however dressing like a millionaire doesnt make you the best dresser or the most fashionable. I will stick to the Japanese cause so far they are the only ones who I feel constantly push the barriers and demonstrate that you don’t have to spend a fortune to be fashionable. They experiment and sometimes they do get it wrong, but its the fact that they are not afraid to mix and match, which for me makes them the best dressers.) Fashion is an expression of faith

“Fashion is an expression of faith. In this world of ours, that seeks to give away its secrets one by one, that feeds on false confidences and fabricated revelations, it is the very incarnation of mystery, and the best proof of the spell it casts is that, now more than ever, it is the topic on everyone’s lips.” – Christian Dior et moi by Christian Dior, Librairie Amiot, Dumont, 1956)
