Hugo Fragrances presents “Human Nature”

It has to be tough for advertising companies to come up with a commercial that is memorable, enjoyable, and successfully sells a product, yet manages to fit in a 30 second spot on television. Faced with this, Hugo Fragrance is among the latest to turn to online video sites such as YouTube, where the time is virtually unlimited and they aren’t regulated by FDC decency standards. While the spot for their new scent, Hugo Human Nature (for XY and XX), doesn’t by any means stray into R-rated territory, there is plenty of innuendo. Perfume and cologne, after all, are all about being sexy and appealing to the gender of your choice.

London Fashion Week: On or Off?

Moving from the On to the Off shows one thing has been most evident, while the On schedule designers have been successful in pulling in well known faces, influential editors and top writers the Off shows have definitely had a creative edge over their On counterparts. Yesterday morning the British Institute that is Betty Jackson had Alexandra Shulman, Colin McDowell and Hilary Alexander in attendance and eagerly awaiting her contribution to fashion week. She offered up a wearable commercial collection and the body con trend which has been most evident amongst the fashion week goers went relatively un-touched by Jackson who instead opted for mostly loose shapes. Her palette was a mixed bag of neutral tones, dark colours, bright shades and prints. The show was a hit and no doubt many pieces will be snapped up…I’ll definitely be trying to get my hands on these pleated trousers, …..but much like John Rocha and many of the other On schedule shows I’ve found myself more fond of what the Off designers have had to say, in particular Reem and Ashfin Feiz.

Adidas x robotisthefuture EQT B-Ball

We’re loving this version of the Adidas EQT B-balls. With the help of hip hop video production house ROBOT films, Adidas have revamped the EQT B-Ball which now joins other old classics that have been re-designed as part of a new collection entitled REMIX. “It’s similar to a Mixtape DJ blending or a record label having single remixed. We take the adidas Sport Performance models and add a little of this and a little of that, just as DJ’s and producers do, resulting in products that are in trend for the person wanting to rock something different and unique or the collector looking to add another piece to his or hers sneaker museum. We do our best to keep an ear to the street. And we give ‘em what they want,” says Bryon Sheng , co-creator of REMIX. The real wow factor of the remixed version is the 3M fabrication which makes it turn all white in the dark. Yes as usual this is a limited edition and only 500 pairs are being released in the U.S. We’re waiting on Adidas to send us a list of stockists. Stay tuned for more info. Oh I almost forgot, the Adidas x robotisthefuture EQT B-Ball’s retail at $150. ***UPDATE*** List of stockists after the jump

Perfectly Patent

I’ve been surfing around my fave online stores looking for a perfect pair of patent shoes to satisfy my current obsession and have whittled the options down to these two gorgeous beauties. I can only choose one as I’m trying to save for a holiday and just cant justify splurging on both. The problem is I adore both of them! I love the velvet laces on the Rupert Sanderson black pumps, £340, Net-a-porter and I love the colour of the Moschino open toe shoe boots, $460, Shopbob. Oh decisions, decisions! I guess price will have to be the deciding factor and with the dollar being so weak at the moment I’m going to go for the shoe boots!

A Shift in Season

As hemlines continue to rise, the shift dress is finding it’s home as a wardrobe staple, replacing skinny jeans as our favourite garment. First revisited on the runway six months ago the sixties trend looks set to run and run, especially with the impending release of Factory Girl, the film about Edie Sedgewick that’s set to make Sienna Miller an even bigger star than she already is. Burberry’s sexy Spring/Summer 07 campaign by Mario Testino took inspiration from the 1960’s photography of Cecil Beaton, and saw Kate Moss leading the troupe of beautiful people dressed in cream and silver trapeze-shaped coats with oversize buttons.

Campaigns: Kate Moss for Agent Provocateur

Being a Kate Moss fan, I too, like thousands of others, furiously typed in www.agentprovocateur.com trying to get a first glimpse at the advert that caused AP’s site server to crash due to the number of people checking out Miss Moss’ acting debut. I signed up, signed in, put my headphones on and excitedly watched “Shadows the first of four short films entitled “The Four Dreams of Miss X. It was creatively a visual success. Directed by Mike Figgis, the black and white four minute film, shows Kate writhing around on a bed with a slightly confused look on her a face. Dressed in sexy underwear and tights she relates to the audience in detail a dream she’s had and the scene switches to clips of her walking up a grand staircase. She looked stunning, but failed to be erotic. Prior to shooting Kate had been worried about her voice, however her voice was fine, instead it was more her acting which was questionable. The dialogue or rather her delivery lacked a certain X-factor and just as I would manage to connect with her performance she would try too hard. The trailer is better than the actual film. The second installment is due to be uploaded on the 1st of November, the third (which will feature a nude Kate) on the 10th of January 2007 and the final part on the 1st of March 2007.

Piers Morgan on blogging…

I love blogging. I’m going to start my own blog soon. I think it’s great; it’s what the Internet should be about. It had gone from being a totally free spirit to being a very controlled, corporate thing for a while and now people are breaking free and it’s becoming a free spirit again. – Piers Morgan. Angeline Tournier

“I want to make shoes that are beautifully designed and finely made, but without an over the top price tag” If your feet are on the larger side, then you’ll know a thing or two about the difficulty in not only finding your shoe size (especially in the sales) let alone actually finding cute shoes which don’t look gigantic. Well lawyer turned footwear designer Angeline Tournier can relate and as a result of her frustrations set up Angeline Tournier London, specialising in designing and manufacturing footwear ranging from sizes EU36 right up to EU44 and which look great on big feet as well as small. Paris department store, Le Bon Marche exclusively bought Angeline’s debut collection and she’s just recently released her spring/summer 2006 collection…. What do you enjoy the most about your job? Four things 1) Working for myself, 2) fulfilling a lifelong dream to create shoes available in larger sizes, 3) being creative, 4) no longer being stuck in an over-air-conditioned office, wearing “formal” clothes and spending my time analysing and sorting out other people’s legal problems, and doing a job with little creative outlet. And like the least? Working for myself means I never get “time off”, I tend to work longer hours than before and I can not “get away” from work, even on week-ends and holidays. Can you tell us a bit about the design process involved in shoe design? The design process takes place over a number of months. I kind of visualise shoes or boots I’d like to wear myself, I sketch my initial ideas, sometimes I get inspiration from a trim off an item of clothing, a type of leather I see at a leather trade show or other totally unrelated topic. A few weeks before I need to submit my drawings […]

Aida Korman

Name: Aida Korman Occupation: Fashion Designer Who were your fashions influences growing up? My Italian design and couture education; coolhunting experiences on London’s streets, markets and museums; traditional Bosnian craftsmanship and fashion business development in Prague were influences that formed my fashion energy which recalls the mix of cultures, ethnicities and religions. What was the first item you ever made? I believe dimije, harem pants. They’re amazing clothes, one can wrap themselves into three to twelve meters of fabric required to make a dimije. A few years ago I made a collection called Dimije 501 named after Levi’s 501. A Dimjie is the only outfit still represented in contemporary Bosnian women’s wear after five hundred years. You worked for Alexander McQueen, what was that experience like? It was an intense and romantic experience just like Alexander McQueen’s style. At the time he was showing in the glass factory and the whole collection seemed to be based on impossible possible combinations. I liked it because it inspired me to continue on my handcraft research. What type of woman do you design for? Strong and seductive, nostalgic but not fragile at all, women in politics, women who stay at home with the children, women at leisure….. What difficulties have you found in your career, and do you think there is enough support provided for fashion designers today? Everybody knows about the gay lobby in the fashion industry. As a woman it worked against me but I was lucky enough to gain big fans ranging from photographers to journalists. There is not enough support for fashion designers but I’m not looking for support, I just need a fair share partner. If you could start your career again, what would you do differently? First I would study then apply it to my work but […]

Jude boosts Sienna’s career

Nowadays your’e only as talented as the amount of press you get whether good or bad, and Sienna Miller can vouch for this. The actress has been one of the most talked about celebrities in the past weeks and as a result has managed to land two roles in two major Hollywood movies. After being turned down for the part in Factory Girl as drug addict Edie Sedgwick, for not being famous enough in America, movie bosses have now changed their minds since reports of Jude’s cheating were all over the media. She has also been given the part of Queen Sparta in 300 which is based on the Battle of Thermopylae. Its definitely not the way Sienna would have preferred to get the part. According to the Mirror A source close to Sienna told a newspaper: “This is not the way Sienna would have liked to have won the role of Edie Sedgwick or a big action role. “But she is not going to kick a gift horse. Professionally speaking, being so badly treated by Jude is the best thing that’s happened to Sienna. “She always wanted the part of Edie but she simply wasn’t famous enough in the States. Now she’s deemed A-list famous. American movie producers don’t ask too many questions about why everyone’s writing about you. If you’re in the papers you’ve made the grade … and they want you.” Meanwhile Jude wants to have babies with her to demonstrate his commitment, we dont think children will be on the top of Sienna’s list.

The First “Technological Stylist”

There are those such as Vincent Van Gogh, Prince and Coco Chanel who are considered to have been ahead of their times. Switch to today and that could not be said for many, apart from Alexandra Fede. While most fashion designers are still experimenting with the combination of different eras, Alexandra Fede has taken her creativity one step further with the fusion of Science, Technology and Fashion. Resulting in a portfolio filled with remarkable creations such as Anti Violence, a range of garments made with fabric resistant to bullets, knives, razors and more. And the Gold Dress, a dress made of gold cards and kilometres of gold wire as featured in the Guinness Book of records 1999. And while not many of us are walking around in Alexandra Fede it can be safe to say that if she has her way, we will be. The idea of combining science with fashion is extremely innovative, what inspired you to develop this concept? Fashion has always been for me an extremely creative world but I have always had the feeling that something has to change for a better quality of life. In today’s world creativity is not enough. I started researching to give some added value to the wearer. Thanks to the haute couture, which I used as an experimentation lab, I tested new fibres and finishes along with a design and style that would reflect sometimes invisible innovation in the apparel. I had many inspirations coming out from observing the people’s needs and my own. For example: one day I was flying from Rome to Paris for an important meeting and you know what happened on the plane? Due to the turbulence I spilt all my orange juice on my clothes. At that time I felt terrible as I did not […]
