Stylist Rachel Zoe got more than she bargained for after making an honest comment about the lack of Vogue’s influence in today’s celebrity obsessed society. After speaking to the NY Times Zoe was quoted as saying,

“Anna Wintour is one of my heroes, but they say that I’m more influential…….As great as it is, Vogue won’t change a designer’s business. But if an unknown brand is worn by a certain person in a tabloid, it will be the biggest designer within a week.”

Naturally her comments were branded controversial, I mean no one insults Anna Wintour right? Well according to Page Six, Zoe has subsequently been dropped by her management agency, Magnet and speculations as to whether Ms Wintour had anything to do with her being dumped, are rife. If the rumours are true then it is possible that Vogue may or may not hold as much power anymore but it’s certain that Wintour is still as powerful as ever. Ah well….as a friend always says to me, “It’s easier to take back a million pounds that were stole than a couple of words you gave away”.

But I wonder if in hindsight Zoe would take back the words she gave away. Whether or not Zoe was dropped by her agency for her frank remarks, the fact still remains that there is an element of truth in her observations. These days the majority of people care more about who is wearing the designer rather than what the designer is trying to communicate.

I think she has lost the plot, all that LA sun has gone to her raisen face. Nothing in fashion is more powerful than US Vogue and no-one holds more clout that Ms Wintour. Suzy Menkes and Tom Ford come close but Anna Wintour is it. Not a little stylist from YM magazine. Even Lindsey Lohan and Nicole Ritchie dropped her.

You know….I’m not a big fan of Zoe but I think she was misunderstood. I believe she was trying to make a point that Vogue isn’t as influential as it used to be. At the end of the day…not saying this is a good thing…but Rachel Zoe not Vogue made Nicole Richie as famous as she is now, simply by making sure she looked good.

Regardless of whether Lohan or Richie are her clients, celebrities still look to her for style advice and she’s gone from being a little stylist to quite an influential one…

I wonder how much money per day Zoe makes in this *2009 economy* - but truth be told, she will still make more than most people who leave a comment here, and that includes myself….
