Visible bra straps? Frowned upon, yes, but grossly overlooked, I say. As with so many fashion “rules”, there is so much more fun to be had when “don’ts” are entirely disregarded.

Pretty florals for Spring. Predictable, right? Not, so much. For Spring ’08, designers such as Balenciaga, Prada and Stella McCartney have taken an otherwise obvious trend and pushed it to new limits. Oversized flowery prints in bright and startling colors, molded and cut into interesting shapes make this coming season’s floral pieces anything less than mundane.

If you didn’t know it already…stars are going to be a massive trend this year. Both Chanel and YSL went all starry eyed on us for their Spring/Summer 08 collections and its almost inevitable that the high street will follow suit.

But just to make it official Kate Moss stamped her approval on the trend - as she celebrated her birthday last night at the Dorchester - with a large gold star painted around her eye and wearing a gold star print jumpsuit underneath a sheer (oh yes…sheer delicate fabrics will be popular too) black sequined gown.

As always when Kate gets glammed up, she looks amazing!

This Doo.Ri khaki trench coat is absolutely stunning and would be a great addition to any Spring wardrobe. With the very girly silhouette highlighted by the demure waist band, blouson sleeves and full pleating on the skirt, this coat is a classic and a strong stand-alone piece. The best part? The little capelet can be detached and worn separately. Two coats for the price of one? Brilliant! $1,995 available at Bergdorf Goodman.

1. Marc Jacobs: Can you guess the owner of these teeny tiny legs? They belong to Victoria Beckham! The ad below is the first in a series featuring Victoria and we’re screaming from the rooftops that “this is a match made in heaven!” The concept is absolutely brilliant and so funny!

Louis Vuitton Supermodel Spring Campaign

We will forever be devoted to the supermodel era. Its not our fault we grew up when supermodels were considered to be role models. Which is why we have to salute Louis Vuitton for bringing some of the supers together for their spring 2008 advertising campaign.

Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Stephanie Seymour and Eva Herzigova star in the brilliantly bright ads along with Angela Lindvall and Natalia Vodianova. We do wish they could have pushed the boat out and brought in Cindy, Linda and Christy!!!

Jennifer Connolly in Balenciaga

More and more I’m warming to the idea that sooner rather than later seasonal dressing will be abolished. But not because of climate change as we’re being told, instead the cause will be our insatiable desire for up-to-the-minute looks.

Example? With fashion week barely over and on the brink of winter, Jennifer Connolly took to the premiere of her new movie “Reservation Road” in this structured, floral print creation from Balenciaga’s collection for Spring Summer 2008.

Reviews: Gina Velasco Spring 2008

gina_velasco_a.jpgGina Velasco describes her Spring 2008 Ready-to-Wear collection “Bolero Breve” as being inspired by the 1920s and the work of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. In theory this may seem like a strange converging point, but Velasco managed to pull it off flawlessly. The twenty-nine piece collection was presented on Wednesday to an intimate crowd who seemed to receive the designer’s collection warmly.

While the first few looks of the show included sportswear items, it was the series of evening dresses that I was most impressed by. Velasco incorporated embellishments like crochet, embroidery and beading in a very fresh way, without seeming derivative or tacky. A long pale pink silk gown has pink crochet along the chest. A knee length gray sheath features beaded vines twisting up the bodice. A v-necked mini dress has a pink crocheted top and a white chiffon skirt embroidered with blossoms.

Milan Fashion Week: Prada

Anytime soon, Miuccia Prada will be known as fashion’s mad hatter.….but do we care? No, we love her and her wacky approach which some how always works. Pulling looks from the sixties/seventies art scene, the collection from Prada is the stuff of fairytales….whimsical and dreamy.

Fabrics are soft and floaty, print dresses are paired with loud tights and attention grabbing platforms and colours are used solely for the purpose of clashing. Love it!

With a collection for H&M set to debut this coming November as well as his main line being presented on September 26th, Roberto Cavalli is a busy man indeed, yet he still managed to wow his audience with his Spring/Summer 2008 collection entitled “La Ma Africa”.

Incorporating elements of ceremonial dress the collection took the crowd with thigh-skimming dresses, exotic bold geometric prints and lots of bright colours such as fuchsia, aqua, yellow and red…all accessorized with flashy bangles!
