There is a long list of contemporary stylish ladies who are equally as eye catching as the Hepburn’s, Kelly’s and Monroe’s of yesteryear.

These ladies have an ‘until death do us part’ kinda relationship with fashion, and their extensive wardrobes, impeccable taste and dedication to looking stylish knows no bounds.

So to celebrate the women at the fore of fashionable happenings and their enviable sense of style, we’ve decided to chart our top 6 style icons…

Rihanna

We think RiRi’s sartorial reputation precedes her. Yes, she has a penchant for expletive-laden footwear (cue: X Factor performance in those trainers), wearing clothes emblazoned with illegal substances and often pushes the limits of fashion to an unimaginable edge, but she never fails to carry off her eccentric wardrobe.

High Street, high fashion our outrageously high heels worn with leather shorts; she really is the only girl in the world who can execute it with perfection!

Olivia Palermo

Gracing front row at headline-hitting fashion shows; girlfriend to a HOT model and the owner of a wardrobe over spilling with sartorial perfection, Olivia Palermo is a no-brainer on our Style Icons list!

The flawless beauty, who fronts the cover of the Instyle UK October issue, revealed she likes ‘walking out of the house feeling fully pulled together.’ Something she sure has down to a t!

The queen of nonchalant off-duty dressing (she even makes dog walking look stylish!), Olivia is often spotted in impeccable style staples, including a well cut jacket, a statement (not ‘It’) bag and wow-inducing heels. Olivia’s timeless style is easy to translate, and appeals to a wider population – a large chunk of which definitely likes to look fashionably ‘pulled together’.

Kate Middleton

Enough cannot be said about the impact Prince William’s missus has had on the fashion world. Her thrifty ways, unbounded love of the high street and polished style have ignited several discussions amongst the fash pack, but we can’t seem to tire of K Middy!

And it seems we’re not alone with that. The Duchess even has a style app dedicated to her, and with her look seamlessly flitting between high street (Whistles, Zara and Reiss are particular favourites), and high end (McQueen (natch) and Erdem are firm favourites), she appeals to a mixed audience of all budgets and style preferences.

We could be here forever documenting fashion’s love affair with the Future Queen, and it is near impossible to single out a particular style moment that left us speechless (they all did), but if we’re charged with the job, then…

Miranda Kerr

We adore Miranda’s love of smart tailoring with a snazzy edge, and cannot stop ogling at our laptop screens every time she steps out in yet another fabulously styled Equipment blouse.

The yummiest mummy by a style mile, Miranda is never without heels – even when she’s carrying her adorable son, Flynn – always power-dressed with a subtle edge for when she’s heading to work, and has an undying penchant for pretty printed dresses.

Fave 2012 fashion moment: Stepping out in the sheer ‘Trailblazer’ blouse by Equipment, sans bra. A bra-ve (and super-stylish) fashion move!

Blake Lively

This lady has rocked some of the hottest fashion looks this year, and she keeps coming back stronger each time. The ‘Gucci Goddess’ – she fronts the luxury fashion house’s latest fragrance, Gucci Première – has serious style credentials, being a Gossip Girl and all, but her eye for hot fashion, and endless legs to carry of a red tux with aplomb give her a relentlessly stylish streak.

Ogling at her on-set wardrobe has made us sit up and take notice of Ms. Lively as a serious style contender off-camera, too. Revealing in the July issue of Marie Claire US that she doesn’t really have a stylist makes her inclusion in our top style icons list even more apt – she achieves these breathtaking looks all by herself!

Diane Kruger

If we could permanently reside in an A-lister’s wardrobe, without ever having to surface again, we’d pick Diane Kruger’s. All our style icons, although individual in their own ways, are on an equal footing with the fashion love we have for them, but if we could rank them, Diane would be our number one.

Her red carpet appearances are impeccably styled – her Cannes wardrobe blew our socks off!; she is a dearly loved fashion darling, and often sports straight-off-the-runway looks from Chanel, thanks to a close alliance with Uncle Karl.

Diane is Hollywood’s answer to Anna Wintour; she commands the fashion scene and knows how to make her mark.
