Ok, I have to admit, I’m probably not the fairest person to judge this item because I really hate snoods. Always have, always will. In a moment of retail madness last year I bought an American Apparel jersey one for a friend. I’ve never seen her wear it – not that I blame her.

Firstly, I don’t really see the point. What is so bad about the humble scarf that you have to join it at both ends? The Ancient Romans wore scarves, and they knew a thing or two about draping. Snoods just don’t hang right.

Perhaps it’s the name that puts me off, too. Along with knickerbockers and winklepickers, snoods have one of the silliest names around.

Unfortunately, this Day Birger et Mikkelsen striped one is doing nothing for me. It’s a shame, because I usually love navy and white stripes, but in snood form I can take them or leave them.

Made from lightweight cotton, I’m sure it’d make a great spring accessory, but I’m going to have to get the scissors out first…
