Beauty Trends

It’s the yearly internal struggle – as seasons change from that carefree-and-golden summer into fall, what looks will carry me through into the cooler weather in style? Be sure to set your scarves and coats off with a few of our AW17 hair and beauty tips.

Vamp it up

Break away from the balayage and highlights of summertime and embrace your dark side. If your hair is naturally dark, jet black hair makes for a striking – but subtle – adjustment that will zing against your skin tone and frame your face.  For fair skinned girls, this is a bold look which will accentuate your lightness to give a ‘pale and interesting’ demeanor, so don’t forget to take your eyebrows a few shades darker to keep it looking natural. You can also lift your skin with a bright red or pink cheek and lip color, as we think the combination will make your eyes pop against the stark color contrast. Hair experts Schwarzkopf have laid out some useful advice for adventurous home hair-colorers about working with black hair dye.

Rose-tinted spectacles

If the vampish look isn’t for you, one of the hottest makeup trends gracing every editorial this fall is a classic ‘Renaissance portrait’ rosy-tinted look, characterized by warm peachy-pink natural washes of color on cheeks, eyes and lips, with minimal makeup needed. Be sure to start with a light foundation base for an even complexion that will help you carry off the color washes and keep your lashes and brows as au natural as possible, that’s if you want to be right on trend for this one.

The braided bunch

Catwalks have been brimming with braids this FW. From chic French braids to Double-Dutch plaiting, braids are back for every length, so give your finger muscles a good stretch and get ready to weave those tresses. Don’t worry if you’re not the most agile braider – there are plenty of instructional guides out there to help you perfect the fiddly-art of braiding with step-by-step pictures for all styles. Hair is easiest to work with when it’s a day or two unwashed, so braids are the perfect solution for days those mornings when you don’t have time to wash and blow dry.

Be red-dy

Is there any more iconic look for the fall season than berry lip shades? When your summer tan starts to fade, a slick of burgundy tint will lift your complexion and work with every skin tone. According to those in the know, the way to wear it this season is to pair bold color with messed-up, undone edges, for the so-called “cool girl” look. Lips that aren’t too perfectly done have been a prominent feature on the shows of designers such as Preen, Armani, and Giambattista Valli, to name but a few. Get the look yourself by daubing your color of choice on with a finger, instead of your usual applicator and top with a little gloss, if desired.
