London Fashion Week SS10: Mulberry

Mulberry put on a special show for their S/S10 collection, which was held in the grand Claridges. Inspired by Sofia Coppola’s ‘Virgin Suicides’ and Tim Walker’s photography, Mulberry gave us a “dreamy take on schoolgirl crushes and fairground iconography, sharpened with teen angst. That’s a statement and a half, but they sure lived up to it. Set up like a fairground dream, the space was decorated with pearlised candy-coloured balloons and carousel horses to really set the tone of the show , and we knew we were in for a treat. How refreshing to see a presentation so dedicated to the season it reflected. For S/S10, the most delicious colours mix with contrast prints and key accessories to create a season that’s sweet but full of attitude. Colour is key for Mulberry this season, mixing candy pinks and sweet shades with neutral nudes and vivid sun-bleached brights.

Christopher Kane breathes new life into Versus

Its’ been 20 years since Gianni Versace first launched the diffusion line Versus and 5 years since it’s last instalment. But in Milan on Sunday the label was relaunched with the help of fashion’s darling, Christopher Kane. For AW09, Donatella Versace recruited the Scottish designer to produce a capsule collection of accessories for Versus and true to form Kane delivered. The collection which Kane describes as “tough and glamour, effervescent and rock ‘n’ roll, includes leather structured totes, handbags, evening clutches, platform ankle boots, gladiator sandals and cut out high heeled sandals. Most items are embellished with crystals for heightened glamour and retain an edge of toughness with lots of metal hardware. Chunky steel jewelry and chain necklaces also make up the collection which was inspired by three main visible themes ,the diamond, the geometric pattern of the labyrinth (most evident on the handbags) and the Moschettone. On her choice of partner, Donatella Versace said: “Christopher is a highly creative young designer and his work impressed me from the very beginning. His Rock’n Roll style is very powerful, glamorous and sensual, perfectly in tune with the mood of Versus, which was always intended for young people who want clothes that project a personal style that is constantly evolving” Spring 2010 will see the launch of both men’s wear and women’s wear. Designer Alert: Angel Jackson

Despite Launching in 2005, Angel Jackson has really come into its own this year with distinctive designs attracting a considerable amount of attention from the fashion press. You may well recognise their now almost iconic gold plated jaguar belt, famously pictured worn by various members of Girls Aloud. There is however much more to this designer than cinching the teeny weeny waists of Britain’s favourite girl band and Angel Jackson’s collection of bags, belts and clutches are certainly worth a look.

L.A.M.B: Patent Leather Ankle Boots

When an established singer, actor or TV personality decides they want to break into the fashion industry, it usually does not bode well and ends in disaster. We’ve watched the likes of J. Lo, Carmen Electra and Jessica Simpson attempt to woo their fans into accepting them as designers. This consumer has never been a proponent of celebrity designed products- until now.

The Bag Quest: Rebecca Minkoff or Botkier?

I have said in the past that I am a big fan of the standard Herve Chapelier canvas tote bags, but I’ve been thinking about upgrading for awhile. Although I may lust after items with big price tags on a regular basis, I live in Manhattan and I’m at the start of my career, and seeing as I don’t work in finance, that means I budget. Big time.

Reviews: Wife Dressing, The Fine Art of Being a Well-Dressed Wife

Upon first glance of the title, “Wife Dressing: The Fine Art of Being a Well-Dressed Wife, which was first penned in 1959 by model and designer, Anne Fogarty, I instantly thought that this recently re-released “how-to book would be outdated or even degrading for on-the-go, modern day women like ourselves. I mean, we’ve come a long way from the days when career women were the new breed, and when wearing petticoats, pearls and white gloves at home on a Sunday afternoon were the standard.

Shopping: The Butler Hybrid

There’s no doubt that big slouchy leather totes make a gorgeous addition to any outfit, but practical they most certainly are not. Trying to find your wallet, a quarter or your travel card in its cavernous interior can be annoyingly elusive. Even more frustrating is the lack of stylish bags on the market that recognize that sometimes a girl has just got to organize. Fortunately for us, Jen Groover has created a bag that is as fab on the outside as it is functional on the inside: the
