Julianne Hough is Worst Dressed of the Week…as ‘Crazy Eyes’

Long before elaborate Halloween parties and expertly executed outfits, it was all about dressing up as a witch and trying your luck at trick or treating. Of course, things don’t remain so vanilla in Hollywood, and this week, actress Julianne Hough has been the subject of controversy over her not-so-PC outfit choice. Far from being spooky, Julianne’s get-up for the Casamigos Halloween Party in Hollywood last week attracted backlash from the public, and rightfully so. Dressed as the character ‘Crazy Eyes’ from the hit Netflix series, Orange Is The New Black, Julianne sported a bright orange prison uniform and Gwen Stefani hair, circa ’95. But it wasn’t her wacky choice of attire that infuriated the masses, rather her blackface makeup. Particularly distasteful, whatever her intentions with this look; but she claims to be a fan of the show, and of the character she was imitating, played by African-American actress, Uzo Aduba. Given the heated debate surrounding the Vogue Netherlands ‘Blackface’ editorial, we’re not surprised by the extreme reaction to Julianne’ actions – after all, fashion may be a make-believe world pushing boundaries (and buttons), but as a representative of Hollywood, Julianne should know better. Although Julianne took to social media to repent her allegedly racially offensive actions, tweeting: “It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize,” we’re still slapping her with this week’s worst dressed title. (Yes, we know, it could’ve been Miley dressed as Lil’ Kim) What are your thoughts on Julianne’s Halloween costume? Is it a step too far? [Image]

Who wore it best? Corinne Bailey Rae vs Alexis Bledel in Stella McCartney

Spring’s obsession with all things floral helped unearth our inner florist and firmly stamped these posy pretties onto wardrobe staples. Be it floor-skimming wispy maxis à la Alberta Feretti or lace-infused digital bloom prints courtesy of Erdem, botanical prints are blossoming everywhere – and here, Corinne Bailey Rae and Alexis Bledel battle it out in a beautiful Stella McCartney botanical print dress with two contrasting looks. Corinne perfected understated chic at the Elle Style Awards back in February, pairing the dress with kitten heel sling backs and minimal makeup. The Leeds-born songstress opted for an accessory-free look, which we think works by bringing the floral print out in full bloom. But Gilmore girl Alexis Bledel beat Brit Corrine to it; sporting the tank version of the dress at the US Weekly’s 25 Most Stylish New Yorkers event, held at Lavo, NYC, back in September. Alexis looked flawless, mixing surfer-chic waves with a dewy complexion, but we’re not so sure on the clutch/shoe combo – the lemon coloured Giuseppe Zanotti wedges appear a good size too big, and maybe a smaller clutch would keep all eyes on the dress. Who do you think looks blooming fash-tastic in this floral Stella number? Cast your votes below! [poll id=”84″]

Top Stories this week: Kate Moss, Lacroix and more!

Kate Moss become ballet star Kate Moss is set to be swapping her ballet pumps for…ballet pumps as it’s revealed that Ms Moss has signed a deal to star in a new ballet alongside one of the world’s greatest dancers , Sex and the City actor , Mikhail Baryshnikov. The pair will duet in a short film that will be shown as part of a fundraising event, and also at a private New York gallery. We imagine it will be a little different from her previous pole dancing performance. Christian Lacroix on the up After filing for bankruptcy last year we thought it could all be over for legendary label Christain Lacroix. But it seems that Lacroix himself will be cutting all ties with the company following its plans for the future. Nicolas Topiol, Lacroix’s CEO, announced that he’ll be teaming up with several other labels to launch four new product categories , though sadly, couture and ready-to-wear won’t be making a comeback. Moises de la Renta for Mango Design talent obviously runs in the family as Oscar de la Renta’s son, Moises , who is also a designer , will be launching an exclusive t-shirt collection for Mango this month. The twenty-five year old is said to fuse his father’s timeless aesthetic with his own youthful rock and roll edge , we look forward to seeing the results! Naomi won’t face charges Despite allegations that she attacked her driver last week it appears that Naomi won’t face charges after all. The chauffeur claimed the supermodel hit him from the back seat of the car after becoming annoyed, and then fled the vehicle when he alerted a traffic warden to call the police. But the authorities have since confirmed they won’t be pursuing Ms. Campbell any further as the driver […]

I’m not a plastic bag!

The hype behind this simple yet creative eco-friendly creation from Anya Hindmarch is incredible and be warned demand is high! The I’m not a plastic bag goes on sale today and if you’re looking to get your paws on this re-useable shopping bag which retails at £5 each then get down to your nearest Anya Hindmarch store quick time. Now personally I love this bag and I adore Hindmarch even more for designing it, but I do wonder if like every other must-have, everyone is dying to get one because of hype rather than the genius of the design. It’s been promoted endlessly with reports of Lily Cole, Erin O’Connor, and Keira Knightley seen bag in hand and the sceptical side of me wonders if they forked out their fiver, or if they received the bag as a gift. Either way as a result of the celebrity endorsement the bags were going for £200 on eBay. Madness! While it is a cute alternative to the plastic bag, there are and have been loads of stylish eco-friendly bags on the market for a while now so what makes this one better than the rest?
