Read MoreMiley Cyrus gets naked for Marc Jacobs
Miley Cyrus has become the latest female celeb to get her kit off for Marc Jacobs; and for a good cause, may we add. The former Hannah Montana star is posing completely naked for the popular ‘Protect the Skin You’re In’ campaign, which aims to raise money and awareness for skin cancer. “Miley has been a friend of mine for a while and I think she’s beautiful,” said Marc Jacobs’ business partner Robert Duffy about the collaboration. “She is a lot of fun to be with. She really has a very good, solid head on her shoulders. I adore her.” We adore her too, you know! She follows in the equally gorgeous footsteps of Cara Delevingne, Vitoria Beckham, Miranda Kerr and Naomi Campbell among other, so she’s definitely in good company. Tees retail for $35, and the proceeds go towards the NYU Cancer Institute and the NYU Langone Medical Center. You can get yours at any Marc Jacobs Collection and Marc by Marc Jacobs store. What do you think of Miley’s picture? Girl looks good, doesn’t she?

Up The bomber jacket: The hit summer cover-up, we’re digging the bomber jacket for its endless styling opportunities. Continuing fashion’s love affair with the sport luxe trend, we’re wearing ours with skinny jeans and a luxe tee by day, and statement earring and a sexy pencil skirt by night. Knuckle-nail rings: From Balenciaga’s lusted-after gold versions to pocket-pleasing high-street alternatives on the high street, knuckle rings have evolved into the next best thing: knuckle-nail rings, as seen on the Chanel Fall Couture 2013 runway. Yeah, couture on your nails is a thing, according to Kaiser Karl. Expensive baby shoes: With a ‘female hustler’ and the ‘king of hip hop’ for parents, you’re expected to have a more than average upbringing. Her Majesty, Blue Ivy Carter, has her own pair of TOM FORD heels. Yes, TOM FORD. Downsized to tot proportions, and modelled by her bootylicious mum. In other news, the world’s first billionaire couple reportedly splashed out a whopping (modest by Jay-B standards) $7,500 on presents for Baby Kimye, including a pair of Christian Dior booties. Moss mania: Although she’s been everywhere since being discovered at the tender age of 14, Kate Moss continues to rule everything, everywhere. From taking over the Stuart Weitzman and Versace AW13 campaigns to teaming up with Carphone Warehouse on a new fashion-tech accessories line and going under the hammer (sort of) at Christie’s. Budget Alaia’s (well, kind of): We’ve been drooling over the real deal, and promptly heading to Zara to snap up the pocket-friendly version! We’re in love with complex, lace up sandals that look like a lot of hard work to slip into, but once you’ve got them on, there’s no coming off. Down Over-the-top underdressing: Oh, Rihanna. Bad, bad Rihanna. Rocking up to Chanel Couture (!) in nothing more than a […]
Read MoreDaisy Lowe sizzles at Serpentine summer soiree
Only the gorgeous model daughter of a fashion icon would be able to wear what is essentially a table cloth with a dodgy halter neck and make it look absolutely phenomenal. Daisy Lowe looked stunning as she attended the Serpentine Gallery Summer Party at the Kensington Gardens last night; grabbing our attention was no easy feat either considering some of the other famous guests in attendance included Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Georgia May Jagger. Daisy let the dress do all the talking – or, shouting, in this case – by ruling out accessories altogether. We did spy a matchy-matchy manicure though, which deserves some brownie points, as does her decision to leave her beautiful brunette locks tumbling effortlessly over her shoulders. Gorgeous, no?

It’s already a busy week for the red carpet! Monday night saw the prestigious CFDA Awards take place in New York, and last night it was the turn of the Glamour Women of the Year Awards which were happening right here in London – at the Berkeley Square Gardens, to be exact. As we told you earlier, Victoria Beckham walked away with the ‘Woman of the Decade’ prize, but the best thing about her appearance (apart rom the fact that she took her very dapper looking son Brooklyn as her date) was her outfit. Sure, it was black which is big favourite with Posh, but it wasn’t one of her own designs – it was in fact Maison Martin Margiela which came as a pleasant surprise. Frankie Sandford from The Saturdays debuted her new longer hairstyle (and also showed us how her baby bump is progressing) on the red carpet, while new yummy mummy Fearne Cotton showcased her post-baby figure in a bright blue dress. Also brightening things up on the red carpet were Myleene Klass and Les Mis star Samantha Barks, who both wore bright fuchsia dresses, while Jessie J also went for an interesting, eye-popping blue ensemble. Kylie Minogue didn’t put a foot wrong on the red carpet either, as she followed in Kate Middleton’s footsteps by stepping out in a gorgeous peach dress. Peach is definitely having a moment! Take a look at some of our best dressed schlebs from last night’s event: Samantha Barks in Roland Mouret Rita Ora in Marchesa Naomi Campbell in Alexander McQueen Jessie J in Gucci Victoria Beckham in Maison Martin Margiela Kylie Minogue in Moschino Frankie Sandford in Halston Heritage Fearne Cotton Myleene Klass in Rachel Gilbert Jourdan Dunn Hayden Panettiere in Black Halo Eve Cara Delevingne Joanne Froggatt in Alberta Ferretti

Miss Cara Delevingne has followed in the naked footsteps of Bar Refaeli, Miranda Kerr, Naomi Campbell and Victoria Beckham (to name just a few), by stripping off and posing for Marc Jacobs in the ever-popular “protect the skin you’re in” campaign. The campaign was initially started back in 2006 by Marc Jacobs and his business partner Robert Duffy, in a bid to raise money for the New York University Skin Cancer Institute. Cara’s tee retails for just £23, and you can snap it up at the Marc Jacobs Collection shop in Mount Street, Mayfair or by heading to the marcjacobs.com website. We have a feeling they’ll sell out quite fast though, so be quick! [Telegraph]
Read MoreLondon Fashion Week AW13: Highlights from Day 3
With Fashion Month speeding on, it was onto day three of the stylish festivities. Packed with major shows, including Temperley London, Mulberry and Jonathan Saunders, the fash pack were out in full force to absorb and delight in everything next season has to offer. Alongside spotting the fashions for next season, our front row radar was in overdrive, too! Alexa Chung looked resplendent sat front row at Mulberry (natch), joined by frow partner Lana Del Rey; Olivia Palermo at Temperley sporting a gorgeous pink clutch; Pixie Geldof looked print-tastic at Jonathan Saunders and, of course, the obligatory Wintour spot at Matthew Williamson left us in a state of awe-induced hyper ventilation (it happens every time)! So, here are all the highlights from day three of London Fashion Week: Mulberry In fashion time, it was relatively decent start to the day with an 11am Mulberry show at Claridges, and we have to say, we needed the lie in! Woodland wonderland-meets the Nineties was big at Mulberry, as skater skirts over cropped trousers made an appearance, along with oversized tweed plaids on statement en outerwear in a whimsical woodland setting, complete with Mulberry fruits and a jaw-dopping butterfly and wild flower installation that adorned the entrance to Claridges. Dark hues of deep emerald, wine tones and black reigned supreme, and Mulberry;s signature botanical-inspired prints were splashed across form-fitting dresses. Outerwear was the highlight for us; we could happily take home every coat we saw! Temperley London Temperley London is a Fashion Month favourite for us, and we couldn’t quite contain our excitement when we were informed that Hitchcock beauty Tippi Hedren was the source of inspiration. In a bid to move away from being associated solely with occasion wear, plenty of flirty cocktail dresses made an appearance, with an emphasis on a […]
Read MoreThe Spice Girls and a host of top Brit models help close the London 2012 Olympics in style
We think it’s pretty safe to say that the London 2012 Olympics have been pretty unforgettable and will be etched in our minds for life. Danny Boyle’s Opening Ceremony was beyond outstanding, every single athlete made their country proud and just as predicted, the whole thing finished just as spectacularly as it had started. As breathtaking as the whole ceremony was, there were two main highlights for us. The first was the long-awaited performance by 90s pop legends The Spice Girls and the second of course was the intense parade of Brit supermodels led by Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell. We were totally diggin’ those gold outfits, and we totally had goosebumps. We know we weren’t alone! (And in case you’re interested, Victoria Beckham was the only one of the girls to wear Giles Deacon, after all that will they/won’t they hoopla last week!) Huge congratulations to each and every athlete, and an extra big cheer for Team GB – you made us all super proud to be British! [Images]
Read MoreGeorgia May Jagger is Best Dressed of the Week in killer LBD
Although a flurry of model personalities attended the Fashion for Relief charity dinner on Thursday, hosted by super Naomi Campbell in London, dressed in black, (Karen Elson, Kate Moss, Lily Donaldson and the even hostess, to name a few), ‘Material Girl’ Georgia May Jagger was the one who stood out for us. The leggy model looked stunning in a black micro dress with cut-out detailing, opting to go for a monochrome look by pairing her LBD with white strappy sandals. The daughter of Jerry Hall and Mick Jagger, and famed for her gap-toothed smile, Georgia beamed at the cameras looking radiant as she went almost makeup free, choosing to dress up her look with glossy, tousled curls set in true off-duty model style. A super-hot LBD such as Georgia’s hardly needs anything to enhance its overspill of sexiness, and with a fine silver bracelet, Georgia sealed the style deal! Top marks for perfecting the art of effortless cool, Georgia!
Read MoreBefore and after: Celebrities with and without their hair extensions…
Hair extensions can be a wonderful thing. They can give you instantly more luscious locks by adding volume and length to your limp, lifeless and lame hair. However, they also run the danger of damaging your hair (look to Britney Spears and Naomi Campbell for proof) so they’re not without their downsides. The A-listers swear by them as they can be a Godsend once they’ve gone for a dramatic chop and don’t want to wait a few years to whip their hair back and forth Willow Smith style, (we predict Anne Hathaway might befriend the extensions once all herLes Mis duties are over) but we can’t help but think some of the ladies look better without a full mane of fake hair attached to their heads. Take a look at some of Tinsel Town’s hair extension lovers, and let us know whether you think they should stick to what God gave them or continue their love affair with longer locks. And if you’d like to try out a new look, here are some great places to get hair extensions in London and if you’re in the mood for going even more glam we also recommend these great destinations for eyelash extensions in London too. Read MoreKate Moss to appear in George Michael’s new video?
Our fave Croydon girl Kate Moss is turning into quite the little actress these days, isn’t she? Not content with making us chuckle on the Absolutely Fabulous Sport Relief special earlier this year (and impressing Jennifer Saunders so much that she wants a piece of Mossy in the movie version too), Kate is apparently all over George Michael too. Not literally speaking of course. At least, we don’t think so anyway… The singer wants Kate to make a cameo appearance in his White Light video – although she will apparently have to share the screen with a zebra. Interesting… still, it worked for Katy Perry so we think it’ll be a breeze for a supermodel of Kate’s calibre. We hope this will make up for Kate missing out on joining Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista and Cindy Crawford in the Freedom video back in the nineties. We’re definitely excited by this; are you?

Read More2011 in news: 10 things that shook the fashion world this year
Among the clinking glasses of endless mulled wine toasts, pre-Christmas mince pies and secret peeling of presents under the Christmas tree, there’s just one more thing left to do this year: reminisce. 2011 has been a significant year for the fashion world. Craze-inducing collaborations, a royal wedding remembered more for the dress than the extra public holiday and fashion losses so large the entire industry collectively wept. And what have we done with all that? Rounded it up, of course. Below, we bring you fashion’s best and most moments shocking of 2011. 1. The royal wedding dress April 29th will forever be marked in our minds as a date that made unparalleled fashion history. Alexander McQueen’s creative head, Sarah Burton, was spotted entering the Goring Hotel merely hours before the royal wedding took place, sparking rumours she’d designed the dress. Indeed, she was bestowed with this burdensome duty and boy, did she deliver! The exquisite appliquéd lace dress acquired Burton deserved acclaim in the fashion world, culminating in an unsurprisingly big win at the British Fashion Awards last month. A big year for Sarah Burton – an even bigger year for fashion. 2. John Galliano – Dismissal from Dior and namesake label Probably the most gulp-inducing, tear-jerking headline to emerge from the fashion world this year was the dismissal of Dior design master, John Galliano. Arrested in a Parisian cafe after allegedly assaulting and racially abusing a couple using anti-Semitic remarks, the allegations against the couture creator were all founded in court, resulting in his rapid fall though the echelons of the very industry that homed him. His immediate suspension from Dior, and later from his namesake label, sparked an emotional outcry amongst Galliano’s closest industry friends. Whilst the hunt for his replacement is said to be in its final […]
Read MoreA day in the life of our editor
Two weeks ago, when we attended Diesel and Grazia’s reader event to celebrate the brand’s official relaunch for pre-SS12, we hand-picked (from a hat, natch) a name. That name would get to accompany our editor, Emily, for a day to get a glimpse into the sometimes-glamorous but often-frantic life of a fashion editor. That name was Omena Ukeleghe. She was our winner. And here’s her story… The day started with a press lunch at the Bicester Village’s VIP suite, where Emily and I met the PR and marketing team from Bicester Village. They had laid on a truly scrumptious lunch, and as part of a VIP press pack, we were given a generous £50 card and 10% discount. After lunch, we went to burn some cash at the numerous high street and designer label outlet stores at the Village where, thanks to the additional £50 gift card and discount, I bought myself a gorgeous pair of emerald green heels (I’m a sucker for a lovely pair of heels). I also bought a jumper – a practical purchase, I know, but ’tis season to wrap up warm. A hop and a skip on the train back to London and we were whizzed away in a car to my first pampering session in preparation for the evening’s event. First port of call was Tommy Guns for my hair and then onto the Powder Puff girls to get my make up and nails done. They did a fantastic job! The final port of call before our big event was the Diesel store on Carnaby Street to pick out my outfit for the night ahead. With £250 to spend at the store (thanks Diesel!), I went for a pair of Jegonfire super slim denim leggings that made my legs look so hot they would […]

Who: Topshop Unique What: Ancient Eygpt, via the street style of the urban Nineties ghetto. Highlights: Gold everything, from prints to embellishment and leaf-capped hair. Lowlights: It’s a hard collection to pull off for your average fashion fan. Overall: Ancient Egypt and the urban Ninties hip hop scene aren’t two historical eras on the timeline we’d expect to come together, but where Topshop Unique is concerned, it’s really best not to have any expectations at all. Actually, you’d be surprised just how well oversized sporty streetwear and abstract hieroglyphic prints work. Jersey cropped joggers and sweaters are exaggerated and relaxed, and as street as we’ve come to expect from Unique, but they’re splashed with brash graffiti-like hieroglyphic prints. The occasional full-skirted dress or flared skirt gave way to a more refined edge, but the underlying street signs didn’t wane as ghetto gold motifs of coiled snakes and scareb beetles reflecting the opulence of Ancient Egypt appeared on everything from slouchy separates to tube dresses and a pretty pink pleated skirt. Gold was the order of the day, it seems, covering everything from foil bustiers to hotpants and models’ hair. Monochrome was also prevalent, particularly effective in an enlarged Elizabeth Taylor Cleopatra print, as were jewel tones in turquoise and watermelon. Glamorous and ghetto-fabulous, Unique’s spring 2012 collection is a contemporary pharoah party, with the likes of Anna Wintour, Naomi Campbell and Olivia Palermo filling the dancefloor. Watch the video of Topshop Unique’s spring/summer 2012 show below: Unique SS12 | Rightster, posted with vodpod
Read MoreJohn Galliano: Excuses of a fallen angel
As I pick up yet another issue of Vogue, filled with uncontrollable excitement at the thought of feasting my eyes on rich editorials, I feel a sudden rush of sadness as I look closer. It’s the September fashion issue and naturally calls for a day to be dedicated to reading it, but it’s also the issue which brings to light one of this year’s most catastrophic events: the demise of fashion legend, John Galliano. Although demise may be a strong word for someone so deeply ingrained in the fabric of twenty-first century fashion, it felt as such for those in the industry closest to him. Charlotte Sinclair’s The Turbulent Life of John Galliano (Vogue UK Sept issue) explores the eccentric designer’s meteoric rise and catastrophic fall from grace, and aims to examine the underlying reasons why, on that fateful night in a cafe in the French capital, did the man so recognised for his composure and dedication to fashion, drunkenly pounce on an innocent couple with racial and anti-Semitic slurs. Why did he declare his affection for the human root of racial evil Hitler? Although in great admiration of Galliano’s work and what he has done at both Dior and his (ex) namesake label, I was disappointed by the justifications given for his xenophobic behaviour. Sinclair’s lengthy feature voices the opinions on Galliano’s downfall from a range of sources, including past assistants; Galliano’s muse and long-term friend, Amanda Harlech, and the Dior house amongst others. Some of the views expressed were striking. Listing factors out of Galliano’s control: an unhealthy relationship with alcohol and prescription drugs; his hedonistic clubbing lifestyle and the untimely death of his father and Steven Robinson – his ‘”soul brother” and right hand man for 17 years, similar reasons Galliano addressed in his defence in court. […]

Donatella Versace designs exclusive collection for H&M Yes, you read right. The goddess of Italian fashion has descended from the high heavens and landed right in humble high street brand H&M. The collaboration comes as a surprise after Donatella openly dismissed the idea of a high street diffusion line back in 2008. Versace for H&M promises a “glamorous and flamboyant” collection of women’s, men’s and homeware, and launches in stores on November 17. Check out the launch video and read more here! John Galliano’s court appearance and postponed verdict So we all witnessed Galliano attend court this week on account of the racism allegations against him. Dressed in a dark three-piece suit, he looked a rather sombre version of the flamboyant designer who once displayed his charm on the runway. Using illness and triple addiction in his defence, we captured the courtroom drama as it unfolded on our live blog. Read more here! As Cannes goes past its halfway point, you might be forgiven for thinking that the fashion may start to suffer (after all, it’s been going on for a week, how much couture is there on the planet?). Well, you’d be wrong, of course, because the last few days have bought out some of the most fabulous frocks on the most famous of people on the planet. Even red carpet royalty Brad and Angelina have made an appearance, though the less said about Brad’s white suit the better. See below for our third instalment of the best dressed ladies at Cannes Film Festival 2011… Gwen Stefani Gwen in a floor-length ball gown? Not going to happen. The No Doubt singer (pictured here with hubby Gavin Rossdale) went in a completely different direction for the premiere of Tree of Life and chose a daring sequinned jumpsuit by Stella McCartney. Only Gwen could get away with a neckline that deep paired with wild curls in her hair, smoky eyes and hot pink lips. Rosario Dawson Strutting her stuff down the catwalk for the Naomi Campbell’s Fashion for Relief charity event was actress Rosario Dawson. Sporting this seasons hottest hue, the tangerine coloured draped dress was the perfect shade for her and her uber fab figure. Perfect. Naomi Campbell Unlike most of the other attendees clad in white, Naomi’s been favouring the darker, more mysterious hues at Cannes. We love this dress on her at The Beaver premiere. The fitted bodice and the tiered skirt create a flawless (albeit softer) silhouette on the super. Jane Fonda Ok, we admit it, we couldn’t resist featuring Jane Fonda in Marchesa again. Continuing her successful style streak on the catwalk, she took to the runway for charity looking delectable in a figure-hugging gold dress. We can only presume jaws were dropping in the front row. How is […]

Read MoreGisele Bündchen: the last of the supermodels?
Some people are so well known that their name is reduced to just a word. Blake, Alexa, Posh and Naomi are all girls that need no surname to be recognised, and when it comes to the modelling, there’s Gisele. Ah yes, synonymous with impossibly long bronzed legs, Brazilian curves and that smile. But apart from being Mrs Tom Brady, new supermum – you’ll remember the scandal over her ‘breastfeeding should be law’ comments – and businesswoman extraordinaire, let’s not forget her roots. Named by none other than Naomi Campbell as the last supermodel, and after topping the Forbes Supermodel Rich List again, we chart the model highs and meteoric rise of Gisele Bündchen… Born to German-Brazilian parents in 1980, like all good supermodels her talent was spotted young, and in a McDonalds, of all places (anyone else ever seen a model scout when grabbing a burger?). At just 14 and already nearly six feet tall, Gisele began a career that would see her secure three consecutive Vogue covers by the age of 19. The real money maker for her modelling career, however, was a five year contract with Victoria’s Secret that would send her fame stellar. It was here she perfected the horse-walk – that stompy, legs lifted high strut with which she walks the catwalk. While her modelling work brought fortune and the coveted title of Leo DiCaprio’s girlfriend, Gisele has never rested on her looks. Sure, representing luxury brands including Dior, Louis Vuitton and, bizarrely enough, Apple, earned her up to $33m a year, but her other ventures include charity stints and philanthropic work (she was honoured at this year’s Global Environment Citizen Awards, in fact). But what is it that makes her so special? Her selling power, in a nutshell. Gisele’s ability to shift products from the […]
Read MoreMet Ball 2011: worst dressed
The annual Met Costume Institute Gala in New York always attracts the fashionable and fabulous. You’ve already seen our best dressed from last night’s red carpet, but unfortunately, not everyone got it right. We understand, of course. We get het up about which dress to wear to work each day, let alone what designer gown to don to one of the most prestigious fashion events of the year. Add to that the hefty celebrity competition and hundreds of photographers capturing your every angle… well, you can see why the pressure is too much for some. Here’s our pick of celebs that missed the mark at the Met last night… Stella McCartney Whilst her buddy Madonna rocked one of Stella’s dresses and looked the best she has in years, the designer herself didn’t get it quite right. We love unusual sillohuettes and shapes but Stella’s own design was a bit too quirky for our liking. We love that hairpiece, though. Jennifer Lopez The Latina lovely is usually a show-stopper on the red carpet, but whilst we love the shape and drapes of her Gucci gown, we felt it was ruined by the flower-embellished sleeves, overcomplicating a beautiful dress. Mary Kate Olsen Famed for her hobo chic, we didn’t exactly expect to see Mary Kate in bodycon sequins but this Givency Haute Couture dress was informal and unflattering. We’d like to see her sexy style circa 2006 return – she’s only 24, after all. Naomi Campbell One word (well, two) – over dramatic, just like the lady herself. It always surprises us when supermodels manage to make themselves look less than perfect but Naomi Campbell managed to look unflattering, haphazard and downright bizarre in her Alexander McQueen gown.
Read MoreBritish fashion reigns at the Met Ball
For an event that usually champions the best of American fashion, last night’s Met Ball saw a surprising amount of stars wearing gowns from British designers. Perhaps it was a nod towards last night’s honouree, the late Alexander McQueen, who’s life and work was celebrated in an accompanying exhibition, Savage Beauty, or maybe the world hasn’t quite recovered from royal wedding fever just yet – but either way, the Brits ruled the red carpet. Dressing the most celebs was Stella McCartney – also clad in her own label – who decked out an impressive 14 stars in her dresses (save a jumpsuit for Iman), including Rihanna, Naomi Watts, Eva Mendes, Maggie Gyllenhaal and BFFs Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson, Thandie Newton and Madonna. Also high up on the most-spotted list was, unsurprisingly, Alexander McQueen. Sarah Burton wore a white dress by her own design to honour her friend and mentor, while Daphne Guinness, Naomi Campbell, Gisele, Coco Rocha, Anna Dello Russo, Karen Elson, Racquel Zimmerman and Salma Hayek and Sarah Jessica Parker all paid tribute to the designer. And the list of Brits doesn’t stop there – Erdem dressed Lily Donaldson in a floor-length navy lace gown, Burberry bagged Rosie Huntington-Whiteley to wear a satin rose gown and nude python clutch, and Alexa Chung wore new-season Christopher Kane. Stay tuned for our round-up of the best and worst dressed from last night’s Met Ball.

As Paris Fashion Week brought the month-long round of AW11 collections to an end, we’ve scoured through the shows to bring you a quick-fire round-up of our favourites from the City of Light. Take a look at our highlights from the sartorial proceedings in Paris below… Who: Alexander McQueen What: The collection, at times, maintained a softer silhouette than we’re used to from the house of McQueen, but once again Sarah Burton proved she knows what she’s doing with the label. With white tweed skirts, fur accents, opened pleats, grey separates, intricate suits, knitted fur detailing, raw chiffon frills, spray-on leather leggings, robotic bustiers, platform shoes and moulded silhouettes galore – this was yet another truly astounding collection, with McQueen’s signature style printed all over it. And the finale of wedding-esque dresses did nothing to dispel the Kate Middleton rumours. Who: Chanel What: Lagerfeld definitely celebrated International Women’s Day with his autumn/winter collection at Paris Fashion Week, and with raw silhouetted clothing making a profound impact on the catwalk, there was no denying the rough, tough and ready mood of the clothes: an abundance of boiler suits, cropped jackets, pleated trousers, tweed legwarmers, flat brogues and mannish ankle boots. Who: Louis Vuitton What: A quintessential collection of hotel uniform-inspired clothes, with patent leather jackets, sheer skirts exposing suspenders and bottom-revealing cashmere onesies completing the array of rule-breaking get-ups. Surprise appearances from Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss smoking stole the show. Who: Lanvin What: A collection of sophisticated silhouettes, with mustard and caramel draped fabric dresses aplenty. Who: Valentino What: A romantic collection of lace and cashmere, delicate jumpers and A-line dresses. Who: Miu Miu What: A statement collection of signature Sixites shapes, bold colour blocking and sparkly heels galore. Who: Givenchy What: A collection inspired by the Japanese kimono silhouette […]
Read MoreJohn Galliano releases apology (and heads to rehab)
We haven’t heard a peep from him since last Thursday’s events that saw John Galliano arrested and subsequently sacked from Dior, but at last, the designer has released a statement apologising for his behaviour. In full, it reads: “Since the events of last Thursday evening I have not been able to make any public comment on what took place based upon advice from my French lawyer. However, given the continuing delays at the French Prosecutor’s Office I should make my position clear. “I completely deny the claims made against me and have fully co-operated with the police investigation. “A number of independent witnesses have given evidence and have told the police that I was subjected to verbal harassment and an unprovoked assault when an individual tried to hit me with a chair having taken violent exception to my look and my clothing. For these reasons I have commenced proceedings for defamation and the threats made against me. “However, I fully accept that the accusations made against me have greatly shocked and upset people. “I must take responsibility for the circumstances in which I found myself and for allowing myself to be seen to be behaving in the worst possible light. “I only have myself to blame and I know that I must face up to my own failures and that I must work hard to gain people’s understanding and compassion. To start this process I am seeking help and all I can hope for in time is to address the personal failure which led to these circumstances and try and earn people’s forgiveness. “I have fought my entire life against prejudice, intolerance and discrimination, having been subjected to it myself. In all my work my inspiration has been to unite people of every race, creed, religion and sexuality by celebrating […]
Read MoreIn memory of McQueen: one year on
It’s hard to believe today marks a year since Alexander McQueen’s tragic death. Fashion’s been mourning the loss of the late, great designer ever since he passed away on February 11th 2010 – and even though Sarah Burton’s continuing Lee’s legacy through his eponymous label, there’s still a gaping hole left in the industry. A genius of our generation, McQueen’s avant garde and often daring designs pushed boundaries, challenged traditions and transcended fashion into a spectacular art form. From his debut Central Saint Martins postgraduate collection in 1992 to his final collection, shown at a private presentation in Paris without him in 2010, the British enfant terrible, as he was often referred, expanded our understanding of fashion towards a conceptual commentary on contemporary culture. And so, on the first anniversary of his death – and as the fashion world commemorates the official Alexander McQueen day on Twitter – we’re paying tribute to the incredible designer, celebrating his unrivalled work, and spotlighting the celebs who’ve worn it. Sarah Jessica Parker Sarah Jessica Parker in a tartan McQueen dress at 2006’s Costume Institute Gala; wearing a McQueen tuxedo jacket to the designer’s memorial at St Paul’s Cathedral in September 2010; and wearing a floor-length floral gown two months before to the 2010 CFDA Awards. Daphne Guinness Muse to McQueen Daphne Guinness wears sea-inspired dress and those infamous 12-inch Armadillo shoes from Alexander’s SS10 collection to Nars’ 15×15 project in November 2009. Naomi Campbell Naomi Campbell models a McQueen dress from his SS10 collection at her charity Fashion For Relief catwalk show in February 2010; just days later, she wears another dress from the same collection to the 2010 Elle Style Awards; and in December last year, wearing a McQueen dress by Sarah Burton to the British Fashion Awards 2010. From Alexander McQueen’s tragic death in February to the frenzy following William and Kate’s royal engagement in November, take a look at the highlights and lowlights that have made the most memorable fashion moments of 2010. Lee Alexander McQueen Following the designers death in February, the fashion world came together to mourn the loss of one of the world’s greatest design talents with a special memorial service at September’s London Fashion Week. His last collection was unveiled without him at a private show just one month after his death – shortly after, Sarah Burton was named as his successor, and unveiled her first solo collection at Paris Fashion Week. Celebrating his life and work, McQueen was last month honoured posthumously with the Outstanding Achievement Award at 2010’s British Fashion Awards. Naomi Campbell She’s had her fair share of controversy, what with being accused of attacking her New York driver – for which she didn’t face charges – and being sued by her former agent for perjury, but Namoi Campbell has had her ups too. Her Fashion for Relief catwalk show reunited the fashion greats for a worthy cause and went down as a storming success, Dolce & Gabbana payed special homage to her at Fashion’s Night Out, and the super picked up the Special Recognition Award at the BFA’s to boot. Fashion’s Night Out (and In) Fashion’s Night Out proved more successful in its second year than it did the first, persuading even the biggest names in fashion to get involved […]

The fashionistas were out in full force last night as London’s Savoy Hotel and Theatre played host to this year’s British Fashion Awards – and boy did the stars dress to impress. So sit back, relax, and enjoy our pick of the crème de la crème of last night’s best dressed.
