Milan Fashion Week: D&G

Sexy came in a different form this season for Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s D&G collection. The overall look took on a more relaxed feel with a vibe leaning towards hippie/ bohemian chic. Large floppy hats, slouchy leather messenger bags, and mid-calf gladiator sandals as well as gypsy-esque peasant style path-work dresses that were flowing with floral prints. Mini brodcade shifts, patchwork denim dresses, and beaded dresses and trousers rounded out the boho looks, while sheer dresses trimmed with neon yellow and pink ruffles were signature D&G: ultra feminine and seductive with a whiff of bordello. Kourtney Kardashian is Worst Dressed of the Week

Given we’re all about rule breaking this week, we thought to shake things up and bring you our Worst Dressed celeb of the Week. We’re always waxing lyrical about pristinely dressed A-listers, so how about acknowledging those amongst us who take it upon themselves to make us wince every time we look at their outfits? Guilty as charged this week is one part of the super-extended Karadashian clan, Kourtney Kardashian. Stepping out in LA with her relatively well-dressed sibling, Khloe, Kourtney’s eye-watering outfit quickly diverted our attention. What is that we see? A shudder-inducing mishmash of sorts, that’s what! Pairing an otherwise gorgeous pair of heeled gladiator-style sandals with ripped, acid wash bermuda shorts, a white shirt and aviator sunglasses, Kourtney didn’t quite make the kind of fashion statement she probably had in mind when getting dressed. Broken down, her outfit is great: classic aviator sunglasses; a classic, crisp white shirt; summer-perfect sandals and bermudas Rihanna wouldn’t mind rocking. But thrown together, this outfit really is a case of sartorial sacrilege! (We shudder to think what Kanye had to say about this) The oft-polished reality star was probably having an off day (who doesn’t?), so here’s how we suggest she rework this ‘look’: shorts, not Bermudas, would work well, and ditch the shirt for a relaxed fit tee. Keep the sunnies and bag, and you’re good to go! [Image]

5 gorgeous wedges under £30

If you weren’t fans of the wedge trainer (one of the marmite trends of the past couple of seasons) then you’ll be pleased to know that summer footwear conventions dictate that they will be replaced by their far more feminine, far more unanimously likeable cousins, the summer wedges. Hooray! (Or booo, depending on your stance and preference). Still, regardless of how much you may have loved wedge trainers, we know nobody can resist a sexy, chunky summer wedge, which is why we’ve picked five glorious (and super-affordable) styles that will see you through the summer season in style. And we really do mean affordable to everyone – they’re all £30 and under. No, really! 1. New Look Turquoise cross strap peeptoe wedges: A hard-working wedge that screams “sexy summer sophistication” in a gorgeous eye-catching colour. What’s not to love? 2. La Redoute Wedge sandals: These might appear deceptively comfortable at first, but they are in fact a daring 10cm in height. Only for the bold! 3. New Look Black large stud buckle wedge sandals: If you see “summer wedges” and just think “overly girlie footwear” then these baboys are the ones for you. They’re tough, edgy, and are the summer equivalent to biker ankle boots. Fierce! 4. New Look Neon abstract gladiator sandal wedges: These babies have it all – the cork detailing we love so much, gladiator straps for comfort, and all the colours of the rainbow. Perfect for the sunshine! 5. Glamorous pink cut-out wedges: These wedges might be baby pink but you’ll ooze grown-up glam when wearing them. We heart the floral cut out perspex design – so intricate!

Who wore it best? Kim vs Khloe Kardashian in Myne

Celebrities often have the misfortune of someone with more star power wearing exactly the same dress. It’s a fierce competition to look good in Hollywood, and dressing to impress is of utmost importance. So imagine how it feels when your own sister is spotted in exactly the same dress! The copy-cat fiasco happened to none other than the super-competitive Kardashians! They both wore the same maxi Myne silk dress – thankfully on different occasions. Of course, the ever stylish and fashion forward Kim managed to out manoeuvre her sister by wearing the dress first. Kim chose the silk dress for her new fragrance campaign, wearing it to a photo shoot session. Kim’s choice of colour was nude to complement her olive skintone, acessorised with gladiator style sandals, gold cuffs, a statement gold necklace and her trademark tumbling curled tresses. Khloe Kardashian, on the other hand, opted for a more bold shade choice with the luminous magenta pink version. She wore the maxi Myne to a dress fitting at Vera Wang, and paired it with heeled brown sandals, minimal accessories, a basic black handbag and the same relaxed hairstyle as Kim. But the real question here is, which Kardashian wore it best? Kim’s nude gladiator style, or Khloe’s bright and beautiful colour popping pink style?

In store for SS11: Rupert Sanderson

If the cold weather’s leaving your feet a little frozen, let us warm your toes with what Rupert Sanderson’s got in store for spring – there’s enough revamped classics and cool contemporary shapes to keep you cosy all season. Classic Sanderson styles have been given tweaks and twists for spring – courts come in new colours, signature details have been reworked across styles and a whole plethora of new fabrics have been played with to give a fresh feeling. If minimalism’s your thing, you’ll love the Seville, a classic patent court in blush, the Gusto, a gladiator platform with thorn-shaped straps and Napper, a nude patent mid-heel pump. For something more delicate, look for the Figaro – Rupert’s favourite of the collection – a sleek sandal with dainty butterfly-like strap shapes leading into a spring-appropriate slingback. But more exciting than that, for us, is Sanderson’s fashion-forward creations. Enter an all-new heel height (140mm – his highest yet) seen on the Lightning platform – probably our favourite design featuring symmetric silver leather lightening bolts across blue suede – and the Hydra, a black-aqua-orange double platform peeptoe. 1970s glam-rock incarnate. There’s colour blocking a-plenty – particularly spectacular on python skins – and prints, as well as buckle details, removable fringing and experimental zig-zag stitching, which works better joining two materials than it does as a stand-alone feature, but is an interesting detail nonetheless. And finishing off there’s flats – sweet strap sandals in metallics, suede pumps in bright colours and a darling peep toe pump in black suede with orange and aqua accents that’s sitting at the top of our wishlist. Our favourite Rupert Sanderson collection to date.

Tried and tested: Naya eco-friendly footwear

So, we’ve already given you our top shopping pick for Earth Day 2010 but we thought it apt that today should be the day that we introduce you to another eco-friendly brand that is relatively new on our fashion radar. Not so long ago, we were contacted about Naya – an earth-friendly shoe company that ‘is the first step a woman can take to look good, feel good and do good for the environment.’ Always intrigued about new fashion brands (and especially shoes, might we add), we jumped at the chance to test out a pair from the Naya range and see first-hand the benefits of choosing style with social responsibility. Having looked at the styles available, we opted for the Alamosa slingbacks (pictured above). Not only do they have 5-star reviews across-the-board; they have a mid-height heel, which we’ve begun to embrace this spring, and they are available in Moonstone leather – the perfect tone to match our neutral wardrobe of the current season. Naya‘s philosophy is that we should never have to choose between what looks good, what feels good and what is good for us and the earth, committing to the idea of softening our global footprint without compromising on style. We chose a simple sandal and while the style impact might be relatively low, the Alamosa is the perfect option for an everyday summer shoe when you want a bit of added height and unrivaled comfort. And oh, how comfortable these shoes are. Thanks to the recent rays of sunshine we’ve been enjoying over the last few weeks here in Britain, we’ve had the perfect weather to test these babies out and not once have we needed to reach for those plasters, so often required upon purchasing new shoes. The natural cork and rubber footbeds are […]

Lusting after: The Oxford Sandal

It’s no secret. I’m devoted to the gladiator sandal. Flat, heeled, or knee high (I’m not a fan of mid-length), I love them all….o.k most of them. But with everyone turning gladiator for summer, I feel its time for a change: cue the Oxford sandal. Drawing on trends from AW07 and SS08, the Oxford is a brilliant alternative to the Gladiator.

Polls: The Hybrid Shoe

Part leg warmer, part gladiator sandal, part flip-flop, these sandals by Cocobelle are a bit of a fashion dilemma. The evolved design is sure to turn some heads ( though not necessarily in a good way). Although the jersey and rubber shoes are probably outrageously comfortable – kind of like walking around in those footy PJ’s we used to wear as kids …we’re not sure that too many people (minus the likes of Kate Moss or the Olsen Twins) could pull them off. Innovation and redefinition is clearly key to fashion and style, but sometimes we wonder if sporting designs like this scream that we’re trying too hard to be different? {democracy:24}
