Fergie shines in Vegas wearing Nicolas Jebran

New Year’s Eve is probably the one day of the year when you can wear as much glitter, glitz and sparkle as your heart desires. And yes you can wear that mega-watt sequinned dress you have been sheepishly hiding at the back of your wardrobe for months. On seeing Fergie in this ultra-glam gold tiled Nicolas Jebran dress, we let out a collective “Go girlfriend”. True it may be totally over the top, but that is kinda why we love it. Furthering her case to wear this showstopper was the fact she was partying in Vegas for New Year- anything less than full length sparkle would have been under-dressed anyhow. Fergie paired it with a gorgeous pair of silver Gio Diev heels and a sleek metallic gold clutch bag. Any other time of year this might have been gold overkill, but if a girl can’t dress like a giant glitter ball for NYE, when the heck can she?

Sandra Bullock suits up in Alexander McQueen

The red carpet is all about the glamorous dress – but sometimes it’s nice to see something a little different, and the suit jacket is the perfect alternative. As Mr Yves Saint Laurent, king of Le Smoking, would tell you, it can be a veritable winner in the style stakes if done correctly. Sandra Bullock showed us the power of tuxedo in this Alexander McQueen spring/summer 2012 jacket and trouser combo. She was in New York last week to promote her new film Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and chose to wear this daring look on the red carpet. We love the belt detailing on the jacket and the way it hugs Sandra’s waist. The slinky satin material also gave it an evening touch and prevented it from looking too ‘career woman’. She accessorised with huge sparkly rings and a gorgeous silver clutch bag while her glossy straight hair and smoky eye completed her look with a certain je ne sais quoi. Full marks for the lady in Le Smoking! [poll id=”259″]

Alessandra Ambrosio slips on her Balmain armory…

Struggling for something to wear for the office Christmas party? How about this plunging metallic embroidered number from Balmain? Yeah ok, it might look completely overboard on ordinary civilians but you have to admit, on supermodels like Alessandra Ambrosio, it does look rather spectacular. Alessandra blew everyone in the room away when she turned up at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show viewing party in California wearing this darling and extravagant dress. Signature Balmain, it was structured, highly detailed and had those wonderful metallic touches. We love the armory-feel to the dress and its ultra fashion-forwardness. Totally decadent and undoubtedly expensive but, as one of the world’s highest paid supermodels, we are sure this dress was just pocket money for Alessandra. She chose to pair it with a pair of nude Jimmy Choo platform heels and a neat little brown leather clutch bag from Valentino. It’s a tough life for these supermodels, huh? [poll id=”248″]

Miranda Kerr looks futuristic in Peter Pilotto

It was the glitzy event everyone wanted to be on the guest list for last week. The Museum of Modern Art’s 4th Annual Film Benefit honoring acclaimed Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar in New York was awash with celebrities including Anna Wintor, Karen Elson, Sarah Jessica Parker, Blake Lively and Drew Barrymore. However, in the fashion stakes, there was one who stood out from all the rest – Orlando Bloom’s other half and supermodel Miranda Kerr. She’s been making some brave fashion choices lately and this futuristic Peter Pilotto dress from the designers’ spring/summer 2012 collection is one of the best. The zip and peplum detailing give it an edgy twist and the gorgeous blue and white print is, frankly, mesmerising. The 28-year-old chose to team the dress with an intricate pair of Nicholas Kirkwood lace-up mesh heels and a metallic Calvin Klein clutch bag. Swept back hair and a rosy pout was enough to complete the look. If we dress like this in the future, we might just invent a time machine… [poll id=”239″]

Get the look: Carey Mulligan in Bottega Veneta

When it comes to dressing up for a night out, you can’t go wrong with a failsafe LBD. This was definitely proved correct when Carey Mulligan showed up at the 15th annual Hollywood Film Awards Gala in Beverly Hills recently wearing this gorgeous black Bottega Veneta number. The transparent halter straps and pulled-in waist were utterly flattering and sparkling sequin embellishment made it perfect for such a glittering night out. Of course, with the party season quickly approaching, the sparkly dress turns into somewhat of a hero piece and perhaps that’s why Carey’s one seems so perfect for now. She chose to accessorise with a simple pair of black Ferragamo peep-toe heels and a chic black studded boxy clutch bag. We love. If you want to achieve Carey’s young Hollywood look, here’s how to do it: This sequined number from Michael Kors is the perfect little black party dress. The flattering shape means it’s utterly chic without compromising on pizzazz. Michael by Michael Kors Crew Neck Dress, £250, available at my-wardrobe. Keep things simple but completely fabulous with a pair of black peep-toe heels. These from Christian Louboutin might be pricey, but you’ll love them forever. Christian Louboutin Bambou Suede Shoes, £495, available at Matches. An eye-catching sparkly box clutch will complete your look – this one from Oasis is our favourite find. Glitter Box Clutch Bag, £26, available at Oasis.

Gwen Stefani reminds us why she’s a style icon in Carven

We’ve always admired Gwen Stefani’s innate sense of style, but since she decided to channel her energy into being a full time mum with her two boys, we rarely get the opportunity to see her flashes of brilliance. For when Gwen gets it right, she gets it very right indeed. Appearing at the annual MOCA Gala in Los Angeles at the weekend, she looked every inch the style icon. And wearing a voluminous black Carven dress, complete with asymmetric neckline, we remembered why we love Gwen’s style so much.   While many stars would have shied away from such a daring number, she totally rocks the look. She chose to clash the dress with a pair of cobalt blue platform heels and kept all other accessories to a minimum, opting for a neat boxy clutch bag and diamond bracelet. To finish, her platinum hair was piled high into a top knot and, of course, her trademark red lippie made an appearance. Gwen, we miss your fashion daringness – more like this, please! Selena Gomez wows in Marchesa

Selena Gomez chose to wear no fewer than eight costume changes whilst presenting the MTV Europe Music Awards this week but it was her angelic red carpet look that we favoured the most.  Her white embroidered lace mini dress was from Marchesa’s autumn/winter 2011 collection and went down a real treat – we especially love the high neck and dramatic long sleeves. On the runway, the dress actually came with huge lace bell cuffs, but Selena wisely removed them to prevent lace froufrou overkill on the night. She chose to accessorize with a pair of luxe cream and bronze heels from Casadei and a cute read boxy clutch bag while her hair was swept to the side and tied in a loose ponytail. From Disney Princess to Red Carpet Queen? We think so. [poll id=”231″]

Shock, gasp! Olivia Palermo does peach overkill at Princess Grace Awards

We usually love Olivia Palermo’s stylish get-ups but, we have to admit, we were a little disappointed by the peach satin dress she wore to the Princess Grace Awards in New York this week. And yes, we’re as shocked as you. Famed for her cutting edge yet timelessly elegant style, this outfit did nothing to up her fashion cred – the mid-length peach number looked too big for her tiny frame and didn’t act to complement Olivia’s olive skin tone. We’re also not particularly enamoured by that giant peach fur shawl. While we’re all for a bit of well-placed fur here and there, Miss Palermo’s shawl is too big, too fuzzy and too, er, peach! A contrasting shade could have been so much better. But all that said, her Charlotte Olympia peach and gold platform heels are knockouts, and we’re completely smitten with her dainty blue panelled clutch bag. True, there are flashes of brilliance to this outfit, but on this occasion – and we can’t quite believe we’re saying this – it’s fashion fail for Olivia. Do you agree? Cast your vote in the poll below! [poll id=”229″]

Get the look: Alexa Chung in Miu Miu

Long-time Miu Miu fan Alexa Chung looked super-stylish at the label’s show in Paris earlier this month. Wearing a trademark heritage-girly ensemble, she looked feminine and sweet, and did an excellent job at flying the flag for us Brits in Paris. And since she’s (almost) single-handedly responsible for the resurgence of peter pan collars, it’s really no surprise that she chose to wear this white ruffled peter pan collared blouse from Miu Miu. She paired it with a cute navy check pinafore dress, also by Miu Miu, an adorable pair of black satin bow heels and a studded super-sized clutch bag by Valentino. The good news? With a bit of know how, anyone can recreate this look with ease. Here’s how: The foundation for this look is a beautifully cut ruffled blouse. This one from Moschino Cheap & Cheap might blow your budget but, you have to admit, it is rather gorgeous. Moschino Cheap & Chic lace ruffle front blouse, £450, available at my-wardrobe. Next, opt for a navy v-neck sleeveless dress to recreate Alexa’s pinafore-style look. This classic Prince of Wales check dress from Stella McCartney is the perfect shape and will prove super versatile for your wardrobe. Stella McCartney Prince of Wales check dress, £855, available at Matches. A black bow pump adds a sweet chicness to Alexa’s look – try these cute flats from Oasis as a purse-friendly option. Annabella bow ballerina pumps, £25, available at Oasis. Add to this a giant neutral-toned clutch and you’re onto a winner. This studded one from Topshop is the next best thing to Alexa’s Valentino beauty. Grey mixed stud clutch, £25, available at Topshop.

Kim Kardashian channels Jessica Rabbit at the Game Changers Awards

When it comes to evening wear, nobody does it better than Kim Kardashian, and if you don’t believe us, take a look at her turning up to the 2011 Game Changers Awards in New York looking all va-va-voom. Granted, her floor-length red dress was skin-tight, but we say when you’ve got it, flaunt it, girl! Whether she was channelling Jessica Rabbit or not was unconfirmed at the time of publishing, but we certainly suspect so. Of course, Kim would never be seen without her mega-voltage earrings and these gold sparklers ensured all eyes were on her. Her show-stopping glittering gold clutch bag also worked a treat, and as per usual her smoky eye was absolutely flawless. We love the way Kim embraces those famous curves and, for that, we are giving this look a big thumbs up! [poll id=”221″]

Princess Beatrice…another wedding, another millinery mishap!

After her much publicised fashion faux pas at Kate and Wills’ wedding earlier this year, we thought Princess Beatrice would have repented for her crimes against fashion, But after stepping out at Zara Phillips’ wedding earlier this week, Bea ‘s proving to be a serial offender. Bea’s penchant for outlandish head wear dies hard, with yet another infamous statement hat perched awkwardly atop her like a piece of space debris. Already dubbed ‘the satellite dish’ by Twitter users, we can only think she chose it to distract us from the rest of her outfit. If her head wear is too outlandish, Beatrice’s’ choice of outfit is conservative beyond her years. Her poorly tailored jacket in its hard to wear shimmering royal blue is a right royal flop, its dowdy shape swamping the poor Princess. Meanwhile, the Princess’ blue floral skirt (designed by Angela Kelly, flowers seemingly PVA-glued on by a group of local primary school children) hangs loose and limp; if Bea’s rocking a peachy P-Middy bum it’s hidden away under layers of badly cut lifeless fabric. They say accessories can make an outfit, but Bea’s clumsily carried clutch bag and bland nude shoes are the straw that broke the outfit’s back. Embarrassingly for poor Bea, Camilla Duchess of Cornwall, Princess Anne and the Queen herself were all papped wearing heels in the same greyish shade of nude as they entered the Church. Now we all love our Nans, but borrowing their clothes is surely one step too far. The only thing that saves this throw together outfit is the princess’ fresh faced youthful looks. We think Princess Bea is such a natural beauty that she could make a bin bag look good, and maybe for her next royal function a bin bag would indeed be the way to go; […]

Jennifer Aniston dresses to impress in Alexander McQueen

Whilst out and about in London town last week, American actress Jennifer Aniston was spotted looking suitably British in this stunning mini dress by the late Alexander McQueen. The pre-aw11 black belted cape dress looked effortlessly stunning on Miss Aniston, with it’s sleeveless design and simplistic cut, this high-end LBD definitely did the fashionable job. We don’t even think women half her age would look this good…. Choosing to team her outfit with a beige clutch bag and traditional strappy sandals, Jen certainly oozed classic designer chic – after all, McQueen is undoubtedly a fail-safe label these days. We love Jen’s McQueen LBD, but what do you, the readers, think of her look? [poll id=”177″]

Love or Hate: Marc Jacobs multi spot flower jumpsuit

Broadly speaking, summer is the season the jumpsuit comes out to play. There’s something about those balmy evenings that makes the all-in-one look so right. But whilst it’s a welcome change to easy dresses and is guaranteed to always attract attention, many of us avoid it in fear of an epic style failure. However, this Marc Jacobs multi-spot flower jumpsuit may just be the answer to all our quandaries. I love the Seventies trend and this jumpsuit perfectly epitomises this for me. The wide waist belt with large flowers is a real focal point and screams Summer of Love. Plus, the wide trouser legs in floaty silk make it extra chic and perfect for warm evenings.  The hemline of the jumpsuit is super long so it requires a pair of seriously vertiginous heels, and a small leather clutch bag perfectly completes the look. It’s a little bit hippie, a little bit Seventies-luxe and a little bit Carrie Bradshaw. Love.  Marc Jacobs Multi Spot Flower Jumpsuit, £1,165, available at Matches. BUY NOW!

Love or Hate: Rag and Bone silk maxi dress

Whichever way you look at it, there’s certainly no escaping the maxi dress this season. Seen on virtually every runway and recreated by pretty much every high street store, the maxi is here to stay. The great thing about this style has to be its versatility – you can throw a maxi on in the day with a cardigan or light jacket and wear it on its own with heels and big jewellery in the evening. This Rag and Bone silk maxi dress in a beautiful blush shade is the perfect transitional piece. It makes a change from all the overtly-floral dresses out there and is elegant enough to wear on a night out, too. Plus, the thick black straps with adjustable buckles give it a tough edge while the soft pleats make it super-flattering. Wear the dress with high platform heels in black or nude for ethereal stature. Clutch bags also make the perfect accessory and maintain focus on the dress. If you haven’t yet succumbed to the maxi’s appeal, this may just be the dress to make you do so. Rag and Bone silk maxi dress, £515, available at Matches. BUY NOW!

Cameron Diaz’s Vanity Fair faux pas

Generally speaking as your age increases, your skirt should lengthen. You wouldn’t think this rule would apply to someone like Cameron Diaz, but it seems that sometimes, Hollywood is not excluded. At the Vanity Fair Oscar Party Sunday night in LA, Ms. Diaz wore a monochrome animal print Carolina Herrera number to show off her fabulous figure. We were, however, left horribly disappointed. Only just about covering her behind, the skin-tight asymmetric dress with its peplum detailing was unflattering on the near-40-year-old, and wasn’t helped by the safe black shoe boots and clutch bag, which were a tad too plain for the daring dress. The outfit would have been far more more fitting in a nightclub than on the red carpet (and we reckon Cameron could do with putting down the dumbbells for a while – look at those biceps!). But we want to know your verdict on Cameron’s outfit – is it tantalising or tacky? [poll id=”44″]

Standing outside Chanel’s Paris store before its show yesterday afternoon, Ms. Chung chose to wear a quirky tuxedo dress from the label’s AW10 Couture collection – after all, she loves a bit of androgyny at the best of times – and luckily for fashion fans, achieving Alexa’s sweet style is easier than you might imagine. If, like us, you want to recreate this haute couture look at home, take a peek below – we’ve got it covered.

A classic LBD is a must-have for any party, but this hitch bandeau prom dress from ASOS is one of our favourite style revamps for the season. We love the contrast between the fitted corset top and hitched skirt – think Victorian England with shorter hemlines – proving the timeless wardrobe staple is far from bland this forthcoming festive period. This unconventional design is super flattering, pulling you in at the waist and highlighting your best feminine features as the draping details add a touch of elegance to your look – plus, the longer-line back and high-rise front is bang on trend with fashion’s current cross-length obsession, giving a contemporary twist to a classic piece. Simply wear with your favourite heels, lashings of jewellery and a clutch bag for a cool and sophisticated look this party season. Hitch Bandeau Prom Dress, £46, ASOS. BUY NOW!

Get the look: Megan Fox in Armani

Megan Fox was a head turner at Milan Fashion Week in September, and at Giorgio Armani’s spring/summer 2011 show, her Armani ensemble screamed elegant simplicity whilst still remaining sexy – a look Megan always seems to pull off. The Armani jacket is the focal point of the outfit; we love its strong shoulders and sharp cut which highlights Megan’s best features. Her minimal accessories make her look effortlessly chic, but her statement facet ring and clutch bag keep the glamour in her outfit – and we couldn’t wait to recreate it. See our top picks for how to get Megan’s look… Etoile Isabel Marant Wool Herringbone Blazer, £325, Net-A-Porter All eyes are immediately drawn to Megan’s jacket; it’s the statement piece of the outfit. This is further emphasised by the choice of a black dress layered underneath so the jacket can create contrast – and this Etoile Isabel Marant wool herringbone blazer fits the bill perfectly. Not only is it almost an exact match to the light grey of Armani’s piece but it also has long sleeves and one button to cinch your waist for Megan-like curves. TFNC Sash Bandeau Dress, £35, ASOS This dress is a classic LBD which can be worn over and over again. The layered pleat design is also an ideal match to Megan’s dress, and whilst we can’t see if hers is strapless, the sweetheart neckline bears a strong similarity to the heart shaped cut out detail on Ms. Fox’s. Miss KG Eden Concealed Platform Heeled Court Shoes, £65, ASOS Not only are these KG courts the same shade as Megan’s, they also share the same soft suede finish. The classic court and rounded toe design is super-sleek, while the concealed platform is guaranteed to save your feet at the end of a girl’s night […]

Sarah Jessica Parker in Alexander McQueen

The Royalty of fashion paid their last respects to the late designer Alexander McQueen in an eye catching parade of his designs and creations. And standing out from the crowd in this moving ceremony held at St Paul’s Cathedral in London, was Sex and the City beauty Sarah Jessica Parker. Causing a stir the actress opted for a cream layered dress. She paired her frock with a stunning black frocked coat from McQueen’s preview: Spring/Summer 2011 Collection. Parker chose a pair of fitting buckled up stilletos and a statement clutch bag from McQueens’s very last collection. Looking beautiful as ever SJP topped off her look with her hair scraped back into a high bun and a white flower to top finish it off. We think Sarah Jessica Parker did Alexander McQueen very proud. This really was the perfect tribute to a very talented man.

Get the look: Chloe Sevigny in Lanvin

We couldn’t resist highlighting another fab outfit choice by the ever stylish Chloe Sevigny, who rocked up to the Emmys this week in a trend-led leopard print Lanvin number, which she managed to make completely her own. We love how the 80s accents – red bag, slicked back hair and gold chains – don’t over power the look, and Chloe looks as radiant and demure as we’re used to by now. Of course, we want to see how it’s done for us mere mortals too so have a peep at how to recreate her look… D&G leopard print knit dress, £280, Selfridges. Classic leopard print is the perfect pairing to a streamlined silhouette, and this D&G dress has the similar hallmarks of a Chloe cool hit with half sleeves and mini length – and the thin knit texture means it will work with leggings for daywear, too. Lorna Lace Bow Sandals, £70, Topshop These Topshop bow strap shoes are a pretty great match for Chloe’s pair with a pretty good price tag to boot – a snip at £70. The Lorna shoe looks to be a seasonal classic, and with it’s lace contrast and built-in platform, they’re made for dancing. Giles & Brother braided snake chain necklace, £200, Browns Fashion This Giles & Brother necklace not only fits the fashion bill, but it’s a pretty statement piece to focus all other outfits around too when in doubt. With the metallic tones and braided effect, we think we may love this one most of all. Bobelle Aphrodite clutch, £62.50, Fashion-Conscience.com Searching for a great red clutch bag as sleek and striking in colour as Ms. Sevigny’s proved a tough task, but we found a winner from BoBelle, where a cherry-hued Aphrodite box bag completes our cool recreation of Chloe’s effortlessly polished […]

Are you ready for the return of the 80’s?

Some may say it is the era fashion forgot, a decade of designs that are best left in the past. But clearly designers and the high street weren’t listening and we are now facing a 1980’s style revolution. But what should you expect? How about…body-con dresses and skirts, batwings, double skirted dresses, shoulder pads, high top trainers, rara skirts, jerseys, baggy jeans, crop tops and neon brights, oh and not forgetting taffeta (hopefully that one will pass us by).
