Kitty says hello to top designers

The icon that is Hello Kitty has been pictured on everything. Whether it’s a pencil, a birthday card, or a purse, you have probably at some stage owned a piece of the fantastic feline. Well now be prepared to be painting your face Hello Kitty style. Don’t worry this will be make up you actually want. Do you remember Barbie for Mac? All those quirky colours and fab packaging, well now they’ve teamed up with Hello Kitty to create a fabulous make up line. You’ve probably already heard the hype, if you haven’t the collection is in stores now, but isn’t due for release in Europe until March. The range comprises of lipglasses, eye shadows, mascaras, and palettes all in chic grey, pink and black packaging. And if that wasn’t exciting enough, Hello Kitty have had top fashion designers create a range of gorgeous clothes in those signature colours. The thirty-one designers were told to create an item of clothing that they thought Hello Kitty would wear if she were one of the fashion pack. The designers included Giles, Sinha Stanic, Opening Ceremony, Zimmerman, Elie Saab, Herve Leger by Max Azria and Emanuel Ungaro as well as many others. They have all sketched and created a range of outfits, the pictured illustration is Elie Saab’s interpretation. The sketches themselves are gorgeous enough, but you could own one of the outfits for yourself. An auction is currently being held on EBay until 19th February. You can bid for your favourite and all the proceeds go towards the Acquisition fund for the museum at FIT. Oh and if that wasn’t enough fashion for you, the Mac instore visuals have been shot by legendary photographer Nick Knight. Who’d have thought being a cartoon cat could be so couture? Go to EBay for your […]

Golden Globes 2009: Fashion Round-up (Part 1)

How nice has it been to be able to just shamelessly indulge in red carpet fashion from the Golden Globes? Maybe it’s because we didn’t get the opportunity last year but I’ve loved every minute of it. Expect a more subdued ceremony this year we were told. Well, if “subdued equals classy, sophisticated and demure then I hope the Oscars are seriously sombre. O.K, now let’s talk trends. Strapless gowns were popular this year along with the usual one shouldered options which tend to be a red carpet favourite. The odd bright jewel tones courtesy of Cameron Diaz and Eva Longoria was much needed amongst a sea of nude and neutral shades and classic dark hues while Hollywood glamour at its finest came in the form of fishtail hemlines and bold statement necklaces!

Goddess of the Dawn

How much do I love the internet? Too much! Couture week officially began this morning with the presentation of Elie Saab’s collection “Goddess of the Dawn and already some of the pictures from the show have surfaced. The Godfather of bling displayed shimmering gowns, perfect for an award winning starlet and which were stunning to say the least. However there were some pieces which I just found a bit too tacky and personally I think they were better suited or should I say would have been at home at a collection from Versace (see below)

Golden Globes 2007

I refrained from reviewing any of the looks yesterday from the Golden Globes, mainly because I was slightly put off by this pose from Beyonce. I don’t know how narcissistic someone must be to strike that kind of pose on the red carpet of all places, but it was distasteful to say the least. What did I think of her dress? It was a beautiful creation by Elie Saab but not the diva’s best choice, I would have liked to have seen her in an understated colour, looking a lot more demure and with less bling. My two favourites on the night were Cameron Diaz in Valentino and Sienna Miller wearing Marchesa. I’m probably one of the few to appreciate these two and I’m sure they will be subject to a lot of ridicule because of their choices but I liked the fact that they were brave and didn’t play it too safe. Cameron’s red lips along with her dark hair complimented her dress and the black bow added a pretty touch to the one shouldered gown.

Oscar fever

It’s that time of year, when all the stars make that extra effort for their walk down the red carpet and this year was no exception. Dresses were strapless, one shouldered and many plunging necklines were on show. Not many took risks, in fact a lot of the starlets played it very safe in terms of colour and style. Hilary Swank in Versace and Jennifer Aniston in Rochas were amongst the culprits.

Stunning Bridgerton Inspired Dresses You’ll Love – and the secret behind the amazing costume design

What did we do over the holiday period?  Well, we umm ate loads, drank too much, and wished we’d binge-watched Bridgerton. ‘Cause actually we were kinda late to the party with this one.  We only started watching Bridgerton after seeing so many of our lovely followers tweeting about the show. And oh man are we glad we checked it out ‘cause it really was sooo good.  Produced by ShondaLand and based on Julia Quinn’s romance novels, Bridgerton is centered around the Bridgerton family. In particular the eldest daughter Daphne and her quest to find Prince Charming. It’s pretty much Downton Abbey meets Gossip Girl, complimented with fantastic music, stunning outfits and a huge dose of scandal. And it’s funny too. But best of all it was great to see proper diversity in a period drama.  And yeah, it also didn’t hurt that Duke Hastings was so damn CUTE!  Considering all the rubbish news we’ve had lately, Bridgerton was a welcome escape. We’ve just finished it and honestly, we can’t wait for season two.  But in the meantime, we’re crushing on the outfits and searching for Bridgerton inspired dresses to wear as soon as the weather decides to warm up.  Join us!  First let’s have a look at some of the awesome fashion moments this season had to offer.  Best fashion moments  Set in the Regency era, as you would expect the dresses in Bridgerton are predominantly embroidered empire-waist gowns, with each character sporting a signature colour or print to define their character’s personality. However unlike the fashion in the Regency era, if you notice there’s not a bonnet insight in the drama. And what made the costume design so successful? Rather than drawing inspiration just from the Regency era, costume designer for the show, Ellen Mirojnick took inspo from the […]

Would You Dare To Wear Thigh-High Ugg Boots?

O.k before we get started, we’re just going to put this out there; we wouldn’t be seen dead in these! That said, we can easily see thigh-high Ugg boots being a thing by next winter. So whom do we have to thank for this monstrosity? French label Y/Project that’s who. As seen on the runway during their AW18 show in Paris for Men’s fashion week, these new generation of Ugg’s have taken ugly to a completely new level. Speaking to Vogue, Y/Project’s creative director Glenn Martens said of the collaboration, “putting on Uggs is like putting your foot in a warm pot of butter, and I thought why not elevate that and immerse your full legs!” Martens continued, “so we decided to design an Ugg boot that climbs up to the crotch and covers the whole leg.” We absolutely do not dispute the comfort of a pair of Ugg’s, but this is taking it a bit too far, no? From Chanel to Dior – why Paris is still the heart of fashion

When you think of Paris, fashion is always the first word that pops into your head. The City of Culture is known throughout the world for its high number of artists and designer residents, from painters selling their work on the streets in Montmatre, to the designers working for the world’s most prestigious fashion houses. Paris’ vibrant creative scene is the reason so many tourists flock to the city every year, to live out their dreams of renting a little studio in the Latin quarter and spending their days walking along the Seine, or sitting outside coffee shops watching the world’s most stylish residents walk by, now being made available to tourists through Housetrip for short tourism trips. The city has been the centre of the fashion industry since the reign of Louis XIV. The King was very enthusiastic about fashion and encouraged everyone at Versailles to follow suite. He demanded certain types of dress for certain events and started the first Parisian guild of seamstresses, made up of women endorsed by his highness to make clothes. In modern times, famous Parisians like Coco Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Dior revolutionised the fashion industries of their eras. Coco Chanel influenced the way women dressed all over the world with her effortless and elegant clothes in the early 1920s, while Christian Dior invented the New Look after the war. In the 1960s, Yves Saint Laurent modernised the stuffy world of couture with his daring Le Smoking tuxedos for women. It’s a testimony to all three designers that their names live on as three of the biggest fashion houses in production today. Not only are their labels still around, but they are as desirable as ever. The fashion world still takes its lead from Paris. London, Milan and New York might […]

How to choose the right wedding dress for your body type

When it comes to choosing a wedding dress, all dresses are not created equally. While some dresses may make you look flawless, others may leave something to be desired. Knowing what type of dress best suits your body time can save you time, stress and money. Here is a quick guide for choosing the right wedding dress for your shape: Pear Shapes If your body is narrow up top and fuller on the bottom, you have what is known as a pear-shaped body. You will want to be sure to look for dresses that accentuate the natural narrowness of your midsection. This can draw attention away from your thighs and hips. Skirts that start at the waist and gradually flare out are also great for pear shaped bodies. As far as fabrics go, sturdier, more dense fabrics like taffeta and duchesse satin are especially flattering to pear shapes since they do not cling to your body. A dress with a V neckline or spaghetti strapped bodice can accentuate the slenderness of your upper body. If you have a material that you aren’t sure about, Bridal boutiques like Elizabeth Johns have wedding dress experts that can help. Heavy Busts For women with heavier busts, a wedding dress with a scooped neckline is a modest choice. This style emphasizes your face and shows off your plentiful bosom without showing off too much cleavage. If you have your heart set on a strapless dress, go for one with a sweetheart neckline. A neckline that goes straight across can make your bust appear even larger and give a shelf-like effect. When choosing a fabric, busty women may find that materials like satin work best. They provide structure without being excessively flowy. For an airier fabric, look for a gown with a stiffer base. This […]

Steep vs. Cheap: Lace cami top

Thanks to the sexily sleepy Louis Vuitton  AW ’13 collection, the style set were all over the idea of sleepwear as outerwear. Lace-trimmed camisole tops and dresses, worn beneath oversized coats and completed with a dark stain on the lips is the look du jour for the new season, and we’re in. Not content with just being a day-to-night option, the lace camisole is enjoying its newly acquired wardrobe staple status; worn with wide-leg trousers and a tuxedo jacket for a refreshing slant on Le Smoking, or paired with skinny jeans, a cashmere knit and boots for an easy day look. Had trouble tracking down the perfect camisole to suit you budget or style? Don’t fret, because we’ve done the legwork and picked out two gorgeous styles that sit either end of the spectrum. Style Awards: Top 10 best dressed celebs of 2012

It’s safe to say, 2012 has been a positively chaotic year on many accounts: stealthy fashion musical chairs; the news of a 2013 royal tot, surprise (read: secret) weddings and a fair amount of heartbreak ensued. But one thing far more exciting than all of these juicy prospects combined is the FASHION we witnessed. From Miranda Kerr’s uber-stylish taxi-to-hotel hop, all endless, perfectly bronzed legs and the hottest off-duty ensembles imaginable, to Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s ravishing red carpet looks, not forgetting some equally hot lingerie! Diane Kruger left us in a state of fash-induced hyperventilation, thanks to that Christian Dior couture gown whilst Emma Stone really established herself as the unturned stone (excuse the sorrowful pun) of fashion: she.looked.HOT. From Tom Ford to Trapstar, Rihanna has us on trend-led tenterhooks with every outfit she stepped out in, and Alexa, well, she’s just too stylish to even discuss, right? It was the probably the hardest thing we had to do – alongside trying to remember to use Saint Laurent instead of Yves Saint Laurent, and digesting news of R-Patz and  K-Stew’s brief split whilst admiring her red carpet looks – but choosing our 10 best dressed celebs of 2012 was a limiting task. After much thought, picking and choosing, editing and loudly conversing (read: arguing) over frills, hems and necklines, we’ve whittled it down to our Top 10. Here’s to 2012’s best dressed ladies…. Taylor Swift Rosie Huntington-Whiteley Rihanna Miranda Kerr Kristen Stewart Emma Stone Diane Kruger Blake Lively Anne Hathaway Alexa Chung Who was your best dressed of 2012?

Kate Moss poses for Rag & Bone’s first ever ad campaign in London

And now from a young, up and coming model to one of the classics… To coincide with Rag & Bone’s first European store in London’s Sloane Street, David Neville and Marcus Wainwright have tapped our very own Kate Moss to star in the store’s first ever ad campaign, which was shot by Craig McDean. Enlisting the help of one of Britain’s finest supermodels definitely a good way to create some buzz around the new store opening – and choosing to shoot the campaign on the streets of London was genius! “It wasn’t in a studio; it was just them on a derelict London street – Kate with minimal makeup, and Craig with a handheld camera and natural light,” Marcus Wainwright said. And don’t forget, Rag & Bone will be showing at London Fashion Week for the first time ever this September, so keep your eyes peeled! [WWD]

Karlie Kloss sizzles in Stella McCartney

As The Amazing Spider-Man is now officially out in cinemas, we thought we’d revisit some of our favourite looks from the premieres. One look which we couldn’t get out of our heads was Karlie Kloss’s one at the London premiere a couple of weeks ago. The 19-year-old model stunned in a black Stella McCartney dress with cut-out detailing, but unlike Kim Kardashian’s recent outfit by the designer which divided opinions, Karlie’s seems to be a unanimous hit. Karlie’s messy up-do and barely there make-up adds a contemporary and youthful touch to the dress – which has been worn by women twice her age, after all – and also makes it slightly more casual. Had Karlie been the main star of the show (and we could totally see her doing a Rosie Hutington Whiteley and becoming a movie star in the future) some voluminous curls and a flick of eyeliner would be sufficient to complete the transition.
