The 85th Academy Awards (Oscars 2013): The best dressed!

It’s finally here! The biggest night in Hollywood (and the first date we earmark in our calendars and diaries every year without fail) is finally here! Ladies and gentlemen, the 85th Academy Awards, aka The Oscars, are happening right now and we couldn’t be more excited! We’ve been live tweeting all the red carpet arrivals for the past few hours – a big thank you to each and every one of you who joined the conversation and made it a memorable night – so now it’s time to sit back and reflect on some of our favourite looks of the night with the main ceremony taking place on our televisions in the background. Talk about multi-tasking! There were a few ladies in particular whose red carpet looks we were waiting with baited breath to see, and thankfully not a single one of them disappointed us with their sartorial decisions. Nominees Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway looked breathtaking in their respective Dior Haute Couture, Armani Prive and Prada dresses, each going for different but equally stunning looks. We heard on the grapevine that Anne Hathaway was due to wear Valentino but changed her mind a matter of hours before stepping onto the carpet. Although we think she looked incredible in her Prada dress, we can’t help but wonder what Valentino had in store for her! We think the “go big or go home” mantra applies to the Oscars more than any other award ceremony of the year, which is why we applaud the ladies who really take it seriously. A Dior-clad Jennifer Lawrence looked like a true Princess, which is certainly one way of interpreting the dress code, while Jessica Chastain, Naomi Watts, Amanda Seyfried, Catherine Zeta Jones and Adele were just some of the ladies who went for the sparkle […]

The Brit Awards 2013: The best dressed!

There’s nothing quite like a good British award ceremony to warm us up for the prestigious Oscars that are taking place this Sunday! (Write it in your diaries and stock up on the coffee and popcorn – it’s going to be a long night and we want you to spend it with us!) Anyway last night wasn’t about the Oscars, it was about the one and only Brit Awards which made us very proud to hail from this fine nation! Musicians, actresses and generally all sorts of hot and glamorous stars from across the globe turned up to London’s O2 Arena for the 2013 Brit Awards, and predictably there were quite a few sartorial red carpet choices that set tongues wagging and pulses racing. Always a MFL favourite, Taylor Swift stunned the crowd in a jaw-dropping sexy black Elie Saab number, while Bond Girl Berenice Marlohe had a license to thrill in a wow-worthy gold Donna Karan Atelier dress. It’s a good job Jessie J wasn’t at the Grammy Awards, because the ultra-revealing Versace dress she chose would have violated every inch of the conservative dress code. Nice to see her making the most of her long, raven looks before she goes for the chop in aid of Red Nose Day. Good for you, Jess! Also representing British talent was model Jourdan Dunn in a sexy mini Balmain dress, and Paloma Faith who sparkled in Dolce and Gabbana. Always one for giving us an attention-grabbing outfit is our Paloma, and boy do we love her for it! Take a look at the list of our best-dressed gals from the evening. Who gets your vote? Taylor Swift in Elie Saab Berenice Marlohe in Donna Karan Atelier Jessie J in Versace Jourdan Dunn in Balmain Rita Ora in Ulyana Sergeenko Katherine Jenkins […]

The BAFTAs 2013: The best dressed!

The British weather didn’t make the best impression on the out-of-towners, but they certainly made an impact with us as far as their red carpet choices were concerned. Yes, the stars who flew in from the good ol’ US of A braved the rain, sleet, snow and overall chill and stunned the crowds at the 2013 BAFTAs last night, but that doesn’t mean our own homegrown talent took a back seat either. On the contrary, the Brit hotties made a huge impression on the red carpet, proving that the stars from both sides of the pond have got it right in those all-important style stakes. Although black and blue hues more or less dominated the carpet, there were a few exceptions to the rule. Marion Cotillard for example went for the brightest shade she could find, as she stepped out in a rockin’ yellow dress from Raf Simons’ Dior collection. Hawk-eyed fashionistas may remember that Jennifer Lawrence wore the dark blue version of the dress to the Screen Actors Guild Awards a few weeks ago. One of our fave looks came courtesy of Sarah Jessica Parker – when we caught wind of the fact that she would be attending we predicted something loud, proud and totally Carrie Bradshaw-esque. However, we got sleek, understated, and undisputedly sexy as she turned heads in a stunning black jumpsuit. Well played, SJP – you’re a fashion icon for a reason! Here’s a list of our best-dressed from the evening. Don’t forget to vote for your favourite at the bottom! Jessica Chastain in Roland Mouret Sarah Jessica Parker in Elie Saab Anne Hathaway in Burberry  Marion Cotillard in Dior Laura Whitmore in Alexandre Vauthier Couture Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Thandie Newton in Louis Vuitton Paloma Faith in Nicholas Oakwell Alicia Vikander in Dior Juno Temple […]

The Screen Actors Guild Awards 2013: The best dressed!

Another Sunday night was spent sitting in front of the television with a glass of fizz passing sartorial judgement on the famous faces of Tinsel Town, as the Screen Actors Guild Awards took place in LA. It was another successful night as far as red carpet triumphs were concerned, with few of our favourite looks coming courtesy of Amanda Seyfried in striking blue Zac Posen, Lea Michele in hot pink Valentino, Marion Cotillard in Dior Couture, and even little Mad Men star Kiernan Shipka in attention-grabbing Oscar de la Renta. We all remember how Rosie Huntington Whiteley channelled Jessica Rabbit at the Transformers 3 premiere, but we think Jessica Chastain was after her crown as she oozed glamour and sexiness in her figure-hugging Alexander McQueen dress. Breathtaking! Scroll down to check out the full list of our favourites… and make sure you cast your vote in the poll below, we want to know what you think! Amanda Seyfried in Zac Posen Jessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen Lea Michele in Valentino Marion Cotillard in Dior Kiernan Shipka in Oscar de la Renta  Naomi Watts in Marchesa  Nina Dobrev in Elie Saab  January Jones in Prabal Gurung Jennifer Garner in Oscar de la Renta Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior Couture Sofia Vergara in Donna Karan  Anne Hathaway in Giambattista Valli Sarah Hyland in Dolce and Gabbana Nicole Kidman in Vivienne Westwood  Cast your votes… [poll id=”391″]

Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz for InStyle US March

Three of Hollywood’s most beautiful ladies are gracing InStyle US’s all-important March issue, and no, that’s not just because the mag couldn’t decide which of the stunning girls to put on the cover. Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz are all starring together in the highly anticipated Oz, The Great And Powerful film, playing the roles of witches Glinda, Evanora and Theodora. Phew – quite a mouthful when you say their names quickly! We can’t wait to see what the editorial has in store for us – we hope the mag took full advantage of the mystical and fantastical nature of the film and dressed the girls in some appropriately magical attire. If only the Elie Saab Couture show took place earlier, there are plenty of items in that collection we think would look perfect on the ladies. Do you like InStyle’s March cover? Are you looking forward to the release of Oz, The Great And Powerful? [Coco Perez]

The Golden Globes 2013: The best dressed!

Snow may very well have been forecast here in the UK, but it was a totally different story across the pond, as the stars of Tinsel Town were well and truly scorching for the 2013 Golden Globe Awards. Next to the Oscars, this really is our favourite of the awards ceremonies, as it gives the stars from some of the best TV shows and films of the moment the chance to step out onto the red carpet and celebrate their greatness. Red was one of the key colours of the evening, with the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Zooey Deschanel and Claire Danes stepping out in varying hues of the shade. Despite colour being very prominent, we also had some cracking black gowns courtesy of Kate Hudson, Eva Longoria, Sofia Vergara, Adele, Nicole Kidman and Sarah Hyland among others. Paler dresses came from the likes of Lea Michele, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Hayden Panettiere, Megan Fox and Jessica Chastain. All in all, the Golden Globes 2013 were a roaring success on the red carpet hence our larger-than-average best dressed list this morning. Who was your favourite? Jessica Alba in Oscar de la Renta Anne Hathaway in Chanel Couture   Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen  Jessica Chastain in Calvin Klein Collection  Taylor Swift in Donna Karan Atelier Marion Cotillard in Christian Dior Couture Katharine McPhee in Theyskens Theory Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior Lea Michele in Elie Saab Sarah Hyland in Max Azria  Nicole Richie in Naeem Khan Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta Emily Blunt in Michael Kors Sofia Vergara in Michael Cinco Megan Fox in Dolce and Gabbana Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen Amanda Seyfried in Givenchy Eva Longoria in Emilio Pucci Claire Danes in Versace  Adele in Burberry Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad Hayden Panettiere in Roberto Cavalli Lucy […]

The People’s Choice Awards 2013: The best dressed!

Hooray for the first official awards show of the year! The People’s Choice Awards have a little bit of everything – they gave glitz, they have glamour and best of all they have celebs from all walks of life coming together to celebrate their talent and generally have a good time. Any excuse to get dolled up and party, right? As usual, there was a plethora of beautifully-dressed ladies who graced the red carpet. Taylor Swift rocked up in a plunging white floor-length Ralph Lauren gown to show One Direction star Harry Styles what he’s missing… mission accomplished we’d say! We also had Lea Michele and Chloe Moretz attempt to turn heads in their respective attention-grabbing Elie Saab and Simone Rocha numbers, while Emma Watson was her predictable cute and lovely self in a short floral Peter Pilotto dress. Host Kaley Cuoco was pretty as a picture, as always, with the Christian Siriano dress she arrived in being our favourite of her many frocks of the evening. We found narrowing down our favourites a bit tricky this time round, but check out some of our best-dressed from the night below. And don’t forget to cast your vote at the bottom too – your opinion means everything to us! Lea Michele in Elie Saab Taylor Swift in Ralph Lauren Chloe Moretz in Simone Rocha Kaley Cuoco in Christian Siriano Emma Watson in Peter Pilotto Naomi Watts in Alexander McQueen Jennifer Lawrence in Valentino Jennifer Aniston in Christian Dior Rachel Leigh Cook in Oliver Tolentino Katy Perry in Valentino  Rumer Willis in Alice & Olivia   [poll id=”384″]

Shine bright like a diamond in Jenny Packham’s silver allover sequined gown!

There are certain dresses that make you stop for a sec, take your hand off the mouse and just sigh. Case in point? This beautiful, beautiful silver evening gown by Jenny Packham which is just simply perfection. Another jaw dropping, silver sequin gown can be found at RissyRoos.com. One of our favourite designers, Jenny Packham’s dresses make us feel tingly all over, a bit like every time we see a celeb wearing a figure hugging Elie Saab creation. This gorgeous evening gown is just one of the many shimmery options Jenny Packham has to offer up….but we have to say it’s probably our fave. It’s elegant, sparkly (just the way we like it) and the perfect dress to “wow” at any evening engagement! Equally as stunning is the price tag however – it’s a cool £1,865. But hey…what’s £1,865 in comparison to feeling like a princess?! That’s what we’ll tell ourselves to feel better. But seriously, it blows Nicole Scherzinger white X-Factor Topshop dress out of the water. The only question is what to wear it with? Go glam with sparkly jewels and a stand out clutch? Or let the dress speak for itself and opt for understated accessories? We say understated! We’d want nothing to upstage the dress!

Crushing on the Fendi 2Jours Leather Tote!

[noskim] There are few things we’d gamble our rent chq on. Any dress by Elie Saab makes the cut…everything by Tom Ford…ok and perhaps a Hermès Birkin bag or two. Adding to that list, is this beautiful, beautiful Fendi 2Jours leather tote. Yep, we’d take next month’s rent chq, take a gamble and play mummy slots. It’s worth the risk. Yeah it really is. Dreamy, gorgeous, stunning…are just a few words we could use to describe this bag. Right now we’re imagining it paired with an Oscar de la Renta dress that oozes Jackie O sophistication. Available at mytheresa for a cool £14,700, the 2Jours has been on our wish list for a while. A statement bag if there ever was one, the crocodile leather customization makes this bag all that more desirable. As not all of us can afford to shell out practically a mortgage deposit for a bag, there are other versions of the 2Jours available at a fraction of the price. If you’re as obsessed with Fendi’s addition to the handbag world as we are then you can test drive the classic beige version for £1,296 and save your bank balance and heart the stress. Happy lusting! Kristen Stewart and Ashley Greene hit up the Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 world premiere

This is it guys, the final world premiere of the Twilight Saga has finally come! A bittersweet feeling, we must admit. And because the Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 Los Angeles premiere is such a big deal, you know all the sartorial big guns would come out for the occasion… and that’s exactly what happened. Twilight’s leading lady Kristen Stewart didn’t disappoint, as she hit up the red carpet in a stunning cream Zuhair Murad corset gown, which she teamed with minimal accessories,  expertly styled side-parted tumbling brunette locks, and a winning hot pink smile to boot. Ashley Greene also decided to shun the dark, gothic theme of the film and go for a light number, as she wowed the crowd in a sublime one-shouldered cream ruffle Donna Karan dress. The rest of Ashley’s look was flawless, as her hair and make-up complemented the dress perfectly, while her drop earrings added some subtle but wowsome sparkle. No accessories-overload here. The other Twilight girls didn’t let us down either, as Nikki Reed looked sublime in a strapless grey Versace dress, while Dakota Fanning brought some vivid colour to the proceedings in an Elie Saab Couture dress. And speaking of colour, do you love her newly-dyed chocolate brown locks as much as we do? Wow – what a great place to unveil your new ‘do. Who gets your best-dressed vote? We won’t try to hide it, our vote belongs to Ashley Greene, but we’re interested to see where you guys stand too! [poll id= “378”]

Jessica Biel’s pink Giambattista Valli wedding dress revealed

Almost a week after they officially tied the knot, some pictures of Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake’s nuptials have finally been released. The blushing bride and groom look as happy as Larry on the front page of People magazine, and our attention is instantly drawn to Jessica’s wedding dress. We don’t think it’s a trick of the light – she really did do a Reese Witherspoon and ditch the conventional white and wear pink! Literal blushing bride! It was initially thought that Lebanese designer Elie Saab would make her wedding dress, but Jessica’s pink creation was made by none other than Giambattista Valli. What do you guys think of the Couture dress? More details of Justin and Jessica’s wedding are revealed inside the latest issue of People which is on newsstands right now! Ps: anyone else notice the irony of placing JT’s ex Britney Spears on the top right hand corner?

Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake are officially married!

After a few false rumours, it was the real deal at the weekend as Jessica Biel has finally married Justin Timberlake! Huge congratulations to the very happy couple! The newlyweds tied the knot during an intimate moonlit ceremony at the Borgo Egnazia resort in Puglia, southern Italy, with approximately 80 guests in attendance. Akin to their relationship, JT was reportedly adamant to keep prying paps at bay during the nuptials… “Powerful lights were focused away from the church to keep prying eyes away,” a ‘source’ reportedly told The Sun. “There were also masses of security guards outside the venue.” No official confirmation (or pics) on what the bride and groom wore yet, although we revealed a few weeks ago that Elie Saab was given the honour of creating Jessica’s dress.  Hopefully some pictures will emerge soon so we can see Jess’s gown in all its glory! Congrats again, guys!

Paris Fashion Week SS13 highlights – Part 6

Well this is it guys – the final dose of Paris Fashion Week action from the spring/summer 2013 season. We’ll try not to get emotional and have a blub-fest! Elie Saab, Miu Miu and Lie Sang Bong were given the task of making sure PFW ended in just as much style as it began in, and it’s safe to say that they accomplished their goal. Over at Elie Saab, jaws (we assume) dropped as the designer presented a wow-worthy collection which is sure to dominate the red carpet during Awards Season at the beginning of next year. The show was streamed live via the internet so we think we have the authority to say this: never has the phrase “floated down the runway” been more appropriate! In amongst the geometric, sparkly Oscars-appropriate dresses was a vast selection of daywear, which comprised of block colour matching suits, and a few summery frocks thrown in there to spice things up a bit. Although Miuccia Prada’s Miu Miu line is supposed to be for the younger, more contemporary fashionista, there were many grown up looks in the collection this season – far more than we’re perhaps used to at least. That’s not to say that there’s an overlap with Prada though – au contraire one of the many things we admire is the designer’s dedication to diversity. The collection was effortless, casual and a bit dark and edgy… worlds away from the last spring/summer outing that’s for sure. Another collection we thought was the perfect end to Fashion Month was that of Lie Sang Bong, as the designer presented a truly fantastical, mythical, multi-dimensional show. Butterfly prints and motifs were in abundance, as were fairytale-inspired almost nymph-like creations. A latecomer but one of our faves! What has been your stand-out collection from Paris […]

Jessie J stuns in Dolce and Gabbana for Elle November

Jessie J is undergoing a bit of an image overhaul at the moment, lightening her trademark raven locks and opting for a slightly different wardrobe during her recent public appearances. However, Jessie looked liked her old self (minus the blunt fringe, natch) for the front cover of November’s Elle UK and we have to say that she looks somewhat phenomenal. Jessie J doesn’t actually need an image change if this picture of her rocking Dolce and Gabbana is anything to go by, but we haven’t been able to flaw her recent make-over either. So contrary to what she sings in her own song Nobody’s Perfect, we think she actually comes pretty close. We can’t wait to buy the mag to check out the rest of her editorial pictures (she reportedly rocks designs from Elie Saab and Giles) and read what she has to say, as our Jessie always gives a good, candid and honest interview. November’s Elle UK is out this Wednesday!

A round up of the best dressed celebs at the MTV Video Music Awards 2012

Could there have been any more events that went on last night? Not only were some of the biggest and most stylish cities in the world taking part in Fashion’s Night Out, the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards were also happening in Los Angeles. As well as providing celebs another excuse to glam up, get merry and enjoy each other’s company, the VMAs are to celebrate music and the great videos that come with it. However, that’s not to say that the fashion is any less fabulous. Therefore it should come as no surprise to learn that the red carpet was bursting with stylish famous faces, with the likes of Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and Emma Watson sitting pretty on our best dressed list. There was no obvious recurring dress theme this time around, but it’s safe to say that the girls and boys dressed to impressed. It was tough to narrow down our favourites this year, but we’ve tried our best – and don’t forget to have your say in the poll at the bottom! Has Kanye turned Kim into a demure goddess?

“Where have they gone?” I euphemistically and, rather rhetorically, ask myself every time I lay eyes on a post-‘Kimye’ Kim Kardashian. As the world became aware of the blossoming love between the blatant romance-deniers, I’ve become aware of Kim’s increasingly demure and understated wardrobe. A monochrome palette (similar to her beau’s); sleek cuts; ladylike peplums; below-the-knee dresses; sensible fashion choices at Cannes; copious amounts of uber-expensive-looking leather and cleavage concealing necklines have all made the rounds; and I’ve decided that I actually quite like the stylistically ‘born again’ Kim. Regularly seen in barely breathable, bust-enhancing, waist-reducing Hervé Léger bandage numbers, post divorce; Kim’s comeback as the Rapper’s Girlfriend hasn’t entirely been put down to personal effort. This is not to say I disliked Kim’s previous barely-there style, but I wonder if claims that dating Kanye West has improved her wardrobe actually hold any truth. Well, to figure that out, let’s begin with Kanye’s personal approach to style, his fashionable affiliations and, of course, his venture into fashion. Partial to a blazer, slouchy leather pants and eye-hurting sneakers, Kanye’s love of Givenchy, a blossoming friendship with creative director of said fashion house, Riccardo Tisci, and an eponymous fashion label with a rather dismal debut at Paris Fashion Week two seasons ago prove his fashionable inclinations. Given that, Kanye rather famously attended last month’s Met Ball sans Kim – a warning of sorts from the God of fashion, Anna Wintour, and the fact that Kim’s less-than-credible celebrity status – described in W magazine as the ‘fine art of playing herself – (a perfectly money-spinning method, may I add); does Kanye feel inclined to help bump up his beau’s credibility through influencing her style? Does he feel she’ll be taken ‘seriously’ by the inner circles of super-stardom if there’s more monochrome than major-boobage on […]

Nina Dobrev shines as Best Dressed of the Week at amFAR Gala 2012

Thigh-high side splits are currently having a bit of a moment on the red carpet. And, we fell in love at first sight when our eyes landed on Nina Dobrev’s stunning, sequined Elie Saab dress she chose for the amFAR’s Cinema Against Aids 2012 Gala. The striking electric blue colour combined with the gorgeous embellishment not only ensured she stood out amongst a bevy of look-at-me fashion efforts, but in fact looked super-sexy by keeping her accessories to a minimum. Showing off her super-toned pins, thanks to that daring split, Nina paired Bulgari jewels, silver Jimmy Choo heels and a silver clutch to create an effortless and charming red carpet look. The off-shoulder detail updates this dress and takes it firmly out of boring-sequin-gown territory (can sequins ever get boring?!), perfectly complemented by her high bun. A beautiful glow offset by subtle makeup; Nina is naturally this week’s best dressed!

Rihanna blends into the background in white Max Azria

We thought Rihanna was back in the zone after her recent Sideshow Bob bungle, but she left us a little disappointed us at the Billboard Awards on Sunday in her all-white ensemble which faded into the matching carpet. Rihanna chose a crisp white Max Azria suit teamed with a matching plunging blouse before her performance with Britney at the awards, and whilst we love the masculine tailoring on the singer, we think she could’ve done with a splash of colour. Her nude Louboutin pumps are chic, but we’d have preferred to see fierce statement heels to balance her fiery red hair. This is the girl that can wear Marchesa’s wow-ruffles and see-through Elie Saab, after all. But despite her fashion fail, we can’t fault her incredible performance with the refreshed Britney Spears. Pillow fights and pole dancing? Now that’s a party! Would you ever opt for an all white suit? Or are you scared of the stains that loom? [poll id=”122″]

Cannes 2011: best dressed (pt 2)

We may be springing back in action after a weekend’s break, but there’s no rest for the wicked on the red carpet. Far from sunning themselves on the sand, Cannes Film Festival is still in full swing, and in case you haven’t been paying attention over the past two days, there’s more than your fair share of gorgeous gowns to catch up on. We’ve picked our favourite from the weekend’s glam ceremonies in part two of our best dressed guide. See the stars that made the cut in Cannes below…   Clemence Poesy (x2) The chic French actress Clemence Posey attended the Pirates of the Caribbean premiere in this stunning sky blue dress. The colour looked lovely against her porcelain skin, the cut flattered her fabulous figure and the teal peep-toes completed the look perfectly – ethereal yet modern. Later, at Calvin Klein’s Women in Cannes party, Clemence proved her versatility and showed she can pull off short and sexy just as well. Wearing Calvin Klein (naturally), she switched up her style with this white shift dress, strappy sandals and big curly hair. Penelope Cruz (x2) Penelope Cruz chose a sexy figure-hugging midnight blue Stella McCartney dress for the Pirates of the Caribbean photocall. The colour is beautiful on her and we love the matching courts. With a figure and a head of hair that fabulous, she kept her jewellery to a minimum. Gorgeous.   Later in the day for the premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean , the Spanish actress upped the ante in Marchesa. Flaunting her famous curvy figure, the intricate mix of delicate lilac tulle, heavy embellishment and ruffles made for a pretty perfect look for Penelope. Elizabeth Olsen If this actress doesn’t look familiar to you, she will soon. Sister to Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Elizabeth is a rising star in Hollywood, and at the Martha Mary May Marlene photocall, she showed serious loyalty to her sisters by wearing […]

The fashion verdict: designers react to Kate’s wedding dress

Among the 2 billion people watching the royal wedding on Friday was a surprising amount of leading designers, who tuned in to discover Kate Middleton’s dress had indeed been designed by Sarah Burton on behalf of the house of McQueen. With a lot of love going around for the already-iconic creation, a very fashionable jury have given their verdict on Kate’s dress – Karl Lagerfeld called it “very pretty”, Valentino loved it, and Donatella Versace thought she looked beautiful – with a triumphant applause, save for Vera Wang who “would have preferred a closed neckline” and Elie Saab who “would have liked it even more with a little extra volume and longer train.” Here’s what the fashion heavyweights had to say about Kate’s dress… Karl Lagerfeld: “She is very elegant. The dress is classic and goes very well in the Westminster decor. It almost reminds me of (Queen) Elizabeth’s wedding, the royal weddings in the Fifties. The proportion of the train is good. The lace is very pretty. I like the veil a lot.” Vera Wang: “This was great for Sarah Burton, and whether it was intentional or accidental, everything worked. It is amazing and wonderful for someone who does not usually do wedding dresses to show such restraint. The dress was cut beautifully, in a subdued way. I found the fitted lace bodice and the fairly large skirt, without tiers or technical draping, just right — a modern version of a tradition that will never be outdated. I would have preferred a closed neckline, however.” Prabal Gurung: “I thought it was pretty and appropriate. A high-profile wedding like this is not the place for making a crazy fashion moment. It sounds like an oxymoron but it was a personal moment in a very public place. The dress clearly said […]

British Fashion Awards 2010: what they wore

The fashionistas were out in full force last night as London’s Savoy Hotel and Theatre played host to this year’s British Fashion Awards – and boy did the stars dress to impress. So sit back, relax, and enjoy our pick of the crème de la crème of last night’s best dressed. First up is Naomi Campbell who wore a stunning full length black sheer gown, complete with matching faux fur shrug – all courtesy of close friend Alexander McQueen; an honouring tribute to the late fashion designer who died in February this year. Following in the British fashion footsteps was young Hollywood starlet Emma Roberts in a fun and flirty Julien McDonald party frock – the youthful black and blue glitzy design proved an utterly perfect choice for the little star. Picking up the British Style Award on the night was the ever fashionable Alexa Chung, wearing an SS11 pastel pink Chanel frock with ostrich feather trim – Ms. Chung certainly proved her style credentials were worthy of recognition. Top models were also undoubtedly dressed to perfection, with Lara Stone in Calvin Klein, Claudia Schiffer in Mary Katrantzou and the gorgeous Daisy Lowe in a gothic Elie Saab number – it just goes to show Britain certainly knows how to create some serious sartorial statements. Last but not least, and possibly our favourite of them all, is the beautiful Victoria Beckham wearing one of her own designs to last night’s fashion Oscars – the first of which she’s been nominated for. The highly-praised fashion designer has come a long way since her former Spice Girl days, wouldn’t you agree? So well done ladies, here’s to an super stylish 2010 – all we can say now is roll on next year.

AMA’s 2010: best and worst dressed

Last night saw music’s mega-stars gather in LA for the 2010 annual American Music Awards – and with a stellar award ceremony comes sartorial heaven, too. But where the tuelle trains trod as the A-list worked their fashion finery along the red carpet, a few faux pas fell into the mix with the cameras ready and waiting. And so, without further ado, we bring you our edit of the best and worst dressed at last night’s 2010 AMA’s… Best: Rihanna in Elie Saab Miley Cirus in Marchesa Katy Perry in Badgley Mischka Taylor Swift in Collette Dinnigan Fergie in Falguni & Shane Peacock Jada Pinkett Smith in Emilio Pucci Jessica Alba in Cushnie et Ochs Worst: Phoebe Price Ke$ha Nicki Minaj in Manish Arora Who soared and sunk for you?

Oscars 2010: the dresses

Last night’s 82nd Academy Awards were full of memorable moments. Not only did The Hurt Locker pip the box-office smash Avatar to the post on more than one occasion, but Neil Patrick Harris (a.k.a. Doogie Howser) opened the event with a camp and surreal musical display of sequins and feathers and Ben Stiller dressed up as a Na’vi. Yep, he had the tail and everything. But before the ceremony began, we took a look at the red carpet to have a nosey at the stars to see what they were saying about their films… and more importantly, who dressed them. Here’s a few of the lovely ladies and the gowns they chose for 2010’s Oscars. Elizabeth Banks – Versace One of the best dressed of the night was Elizabeth banks who had previously hosted Oscar’s Scientific and Technical Awards the night before. Dressed in a risky grey Versace gown, Banks opted for a thin hairband with her up ‘do and peach-coloured eye shadow. Sandra Bullock – Marchesa Best Actress winner, Sandra Bullock looked every inch the Hollywood star in this glamourous number from Marchesa. It’s a bit too metallic for our liking but the hair and makeup round off the classic look perfectly. Carey Mulligan – Prada Brit newcomer Carey Mulligan has had some great red carpet moments recently and this one might just be her best yet. The black number from Prada features a flattering sweetheart neckline with a box pleat skirt that could have so easily ended in disaster. We couldn’t see closely enough but apparently, the dress is embellished with Swarovski flowers and knife, fork and scissor charms! Amanda Seyfried – Armani Prive We can’t help but think this Armani Prive drowned Amanda Seyfried. It also probably didn’t help that J Lo was wearing a fairly similar […]

Golden Globes 2010: the dresses

So, in case you hadn’t heard, it RAINED at the Golden Globes and, hold the phone , some A listers even held their own umbrellas. Now, as big as that news was , we were more concerned with the award winners, Ricky Gervais’ presenting job and of course, the dresses. See below for a pick of red carpet hits – alongside the occasional miss… Olivia Wilde – Gucci The House star and former OC actress went for the glamour vamp look for the red carpet, noting that her Gucci gown would be sold off at auction. Proceeds will be going towards the support efforts in Haiti. Julianne Moore – Balenciaga We love Julianne Moore but this Balenciaga gown just doesn’t seem to sit right and has ended up looking a little unflattering. Still, she got to spend the night with Tom Ford as her date so she gets extra fashion credit for that one! January Jones – Lanvin It might be black but there is nothing boring about the Mad Men star’s full length Lanvin ensemble. The actress added a bit of prom night glamour with a matching satin headband and Brian Atwood platforms. Jennifer Morrison – Luis Antonio Major congratulations to Jennifer Morrison who has nabbed a boyfriend that can go out and do her clothes shopping, successfully. The House star proudly told the red carpet that she received this textured number from Puerto Rican designer, Luis Antonio for Christmas. We bet she was one of a few wearing something from their own wardrobe! Kristen Bell – Jasmine di Milo We can’t understand why Kristen Bell told the world she wore a shorter dress to the ceremony because she needed to ‘to be able to move like a tiger’ but we’ll let it pass because this Jasmine di Milo […]

Paris Couture Week AW09: Kylie seeks inspiration at Jean Paul Gaultier

Kylie Minogue sought inspiration for her stage costumes at Jean-Paul Gaultier’s haute couture show yesterday. The singer – clad in a vintage black lace cone-bra dress from the designer – was in the crowd at Paris Couture Week for the golden age of Hollywood-inspired show from the man who will co-style her forthcoming North American tour. Models were made up in the style of classic screen sirens including Joan Crawford, Marilyn Monroe, Greta Garbo and Rita Hayworth, and took to the catwalk to music punctuated by dialogue clips and film soundtracks of the era. The range included trench coasts, pinstripe trouser suits, tight corsets, lacy bodices fur coats, mink-trimmed tailored suits and lavish velvet gowns. There were also velvet overalls, dresses made entirely out of film reel and rubber unitards.

Summer 09 Trend: Fringing

Move over Dame Shirley Bassey! Fringing has gone beyond curtain trimmings and upholstery, surfacing in a myriad of chic guises on this season’s runways. Yes, this season, fringes are growing on anything and everything: dangling from the hems of skirts, jackets and dresses, embellishing evening gowns and footwear, even trimming bikinis. The burgeoning trend was prominent everywhere on the spring/summer 2009 runways from Alexander McQueen to Alberta Ferretti and Emma Cook to Elie Saab. Come autumn, the trend will still be going strong with designers, including Gucci and Anna Sui, embracing it as part of the folk look. Fringing has now captured the imagination of the British high street as the must-have finishing touch with retailers such as Topshop, Dorothy Perkins, and ASOS all embracing the trend with items that belie their price. Even the A-listers are in on the act, with stars such as Mischa Barton and the Olsen twins inhabiting a West that is sleek rather than wild.

Cannes: Another day of gorgeous gowns

So Angelina and Brad have finally arrived, and Angelina was dressed to impress. I think she’s now put those pregnancy rumours to bed as she appeared in a thigh high split dress which was both figure hugging and flattering. The delectable duo were out in Cannes for the screening of Tarantino’s ‘Inglorious Basterds’, Angelina’s Versace gown is truly magnificent. From the floor skimming length, to the nude colour and one-shoulder, this dress is so on trend it hurts. And she looks incredible, we had begun to wonder whether Jolie had been lost to the realms of mum dressing, but no she is back on her best form. Stunning!

The Oscars 2009: Angelina Jolie

Snooze. Snore. Yawn. Yes, we know Angelina is in black yet again. But doesn’t this Elie Saab dress fit her so beautifully? Avoiding platinum, Angie opted for emerald green chandelier earrings to add a touch of colour. She won’t come away with most glamorous on the night, but she won’t be the worst dressed either.
