Some of you will be so wrapped up in Christmas presents this morning you’ll have barely remembered the Boxing day sales have started… who are we kidding? Any seasoned shopper worth her wardrobe will have set her alarm especially early this morning to sift out the savviest steals the stores have got to offer! But a sale should never be approached without a thorough plan of what’s worth stashing up on and what’s not worth the 15-people queue, and since you’ve been so busy buying presents and preparing the turkey, we’ve made one for you. With tips on what’s worth its weight in gold and what to avoid at all costs, follow our steps below to the do’s and don’t’s of Christmas sale shopping… DO buy anything floral. It’s a perennial favourite that’ll prove super versatile come spring. DON’T buy rich, boozy colours. We may have gulped them up this winter, but come next season we’ll be looking for a brighter beverage. DO buy into neon. A hot pink tee here, a fluro-striped skirt there – it’s spring’s favourite fad, and since you won’t be wearing them forever, it makes sense to snap them up cheap. DON’T buy jewel tones. Autumn loves a deep, punchy palette, but next season’s all about the softer shades. On that note, DO buy pastels for reasons above. DON’T buy heritage tweeds. Tailoring comes much softer next spring, and unless you’re a country bumpkin, it’s time to pack away the posh past. DO buy pleated skirts. We saw them everywhere from Celine to Burberry, making them spring’s key skirt shape. DON’t buy Dalmatian print. Autumn might have loved this trend, but next season there’s not a dog’s dot in sight. DO buy anything striped, especially bottoms. Pyjama pants are spring’s soft alternative to tailored trousers. […]

If there’s one thing we love about Lady Gaga’s style, it’s the way she manages to adopt the style of whichever country she’s in at that time. When in England, that usually means accessorising with teacups, ultra-regal threads and parasols. Leaving her London hotel a few days ago, she looked as glamorous as ever holding an obscure (yet charmingly quaint) Little Mermaid lace-trimmed parasol. The Tsumori Chisato design would have looked bonkers on anyone else but, as we all know, Gaga plays by her own rules. Her bright orange Georgia Hardinge jumpsuit (we told you she was one to watch) was highly flattering and provided a sophisticated Seventies look we don’t often see on Lady G. She paired the outfit with a massive pair of black geometric earrings and a loose hanging rope belt. And, though it might have been a dark and cold night in London, that didn’t stop her wearing a pair of fabulously extravagant shades – this Paloma Picasso pair’s cute and quirky. Gaga, you’re bonkers but we wouldn’t have you any other way! What do you think of her look? [poll id=”230″]

Read MoreGet the look: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s hot autumn look
This time of year can sometimes be difficult to dress for – not quite cold enough for full-on winter coats but not warm enough to surpass the woolens. Well would take a look at this: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was recently pictured on the streets of London wearing this perfectly autumnal ensemble. The sweater is having a major fashion moment at the minute and her striped Joie piece is the perfect blend of slouchy and chic. Rosie paired the sweater with skin-tight dark denim and black suede knee-high wedge boots (which we’re more than a little bit jealous of). We also loved her Seventies-style wide-brimmed floppy hat in that gorgeous plum colour – very Bianca Jagger, non? She finished the look with a classic super-sized black tote which pulled the look together effortlessly. Of course, most of us will never get to be a Burberry muse like Rosie. Or replace Megan Fox in a movie. Or be a London socialite. Bad times, but we can totally steal her look. See how: The focus of this outfit is the striped jumper. Rosie’s gorgeous Joie number will set you back £270, but we’ve found this wonderful mohair version from Topshop for a far more purse-friendly £42. Sweet! Knitted Stripe Mohair Jumper, £42, available at Topshop. When wearing knee high boots it’s important to wear jeans as slim-cut as possible to avoid adding unnecessary bulk. Investing in a good pair will withstand all the wear and tear winter has to throw at them – this wax-coated pair from J Brand is perfect. J Brand waxed skinny jeans, £199, available at Oxygen Boutique. Rosie’s suede wedge boots not only look great, they’re also sturdy and practical on foot. This pair from House of Harlow has a definite touch of the Seventies to them and works wonders […]

If autumn makes you want to go back to what you know, you’ll find all the home comforts you need from British heritage brand Daks. Having delved into its recently-opened archive museum, the luxury label has reworked its traditional checks and tweeds into an altogether more contemporary collection for autumn, which both takes a modern approach to style and reflects Daks’ signature long-standing values. And loaded with rich autumnal shades like leafy greens, chocolate browns and ever-classic navy, it feels suitably sophisticated with an insouciant charm. In a kick back to late Sixties, early Seventies London, sharply tailored separates are given a feminine edge with delicate shirts and pleats in dresses, as sturdy materials are lifted with luxe fabrics like silk or fine knits for a strong yet elegant silhouette. Outerwear is key, too, taking masculine shapes like heavy duffel coats and mixing them with whimsical capes and hooded ponchos, while accessories come classic and practical with a striking Sixties story that Jane Birkin would certainly approve of. Refined and elegant but laced with British charm, we want to dive right in. Now, lets all go and backcomb our hair and apply some flicky liner. Head on over to Daks to shop the collection. Yesterday we popped into Benetton to sneak a peek at its new capsule collection, and in case you’re wondering, it’s satisfyingly gorgeous. In a special mini collection for autumn, softly tailored separates, snuggley knits, sleek snakeskin and delicate drapes form a feminine but directional line for the high street brand, which stands strong on its own as well as slipping in seamlessly with the mainline. Luxe-feeling fabrics featuring soft feather prints help dresses feel fresh for the new season, while dainty blouses and billowing maxi lengths give a gentle nod to the Seventies and all its relaxed glamour. Look out for our favourites – the cropped chunky knit sweater, the pleated maxi skirt and a pair of cool straight-leg snakeskin trousers… [nggallery id=88]

We all remember the abundance of starry chiffon that floated down the Dolce and Gabbana AW11 runway, and Oasis was obviously inspired by such celestial visions with its star print midi dress. With an extremely flattering gathered waist, floaty full length sleeves and a cute pussy bow neckline, this dress will surely make us shine at night on dance floors all over the galaxy. We’ll be channelling the Dolce girls by teaming it with a smoky eye and sleek, pulled-back starlet hair. And for something a little more casual? Team it with a large floppy hat and a pair of black suede boots for some Seventies glamour on an autumnal day, or throw on a black biker jacket and a slick of scarlet lipstick. At the very decent price of £30 down from £65 in the sale, there’s never been more of an excuse to look like a star. Oasis star print midi dress, £30, available at Oasis.
Read MoreHow many suitcases does Rachel Zoe need for Paris?
Apparently Rachel Zoe doesn’t take too well to packing lightly, if this picture of her poor hubby pulling along a whole trailer of luggage on arrival in Paris is anything to go by. Paris Fashion Week does, of course, require a more discerning approach to packing, but 11 bags and suitcases and two Louis Vuitton duffel bags for one week’s stay in the city is excessive by anyone’s standards. “Final stop..Paris via Eurostar train..@rbermanus is hating me right now..xoRZ,” Zoe tweeted at the weekend. Yes, let’s look at Berman, who through gritted teeth is probably wishing he didn’t marry a super-stylist-cum-designer right now. Still, just think of all the outfits in there! The ridiculously high heels! The fierce faux fur! We’ll recap just what she assembled from her baggage soon. [Styleite]

Who: Jaeger London What: short suits in pretty pastel colours, sweet scalloping details on dresses, broderie Anglaise cutwork and roomy, feminine separates. Highlights: Feminine short suits, wide-brim stiff lacquered hats and cutesy cut-out details. Lowlights: It’s not particularly directional, but there’s a solid place for its wearable heritage. Overall: “This season sees the Jaeger London woman landing on the isle of Mustique,” read the show notes. Well, after just escaping the rain and entering a chilly BFC tent, we rather wished we could get there, too. Inspired by the glamour of the late Sixties and early Seventies, Jaeger is decidedly more feminine for spring 2012 than in seasons past. Surprisingly light and gentle, pretty pastels in pale pink, mint and sunflower yellow are used to great effect on airy shift dresses and suits – both skirt and playful short versions. Textural summer tweeds are particularly pretty, as are roomy Broderie Anglaise dresses, shapely cut-out details and scalloped edges. Pleated hemlines add a girlish innocence, but a look to wide-leg culottes adds a sporty edge, while lace cocktail creations remain classic. It’s fresh, fun and feminine – once again, Jaeger delivers a decisively wearable collection. Read MoreGlow in the dark denim: do you dare?
Denim can never be praised enough. It’s fashion’s most loved staple, with an evergreen presence and the advantage of being the only item of clothing which looks increasingly beautiful with each wear. Being fashion’s chameleon means a constant overhaul for this beloved fabric; be it sequins and safety pins á la Balmain or a high-waisted and flared Seventies affair as copiously witnessed last season. But having seen the well-behaved and sexed-up guises of denim, nothing quite matched the reaction evoked in us by the outlandish invention from cult denim label Naked & Famous. Hailing from Toronto, Naked & Famous specialise in ‘rare and raw Japanese denim’, and if the Far East is anything to go by for introducing innovative techniques and trailblazing trends, Naked & Famous have excelled. The Canadian label, you see, brings us glow in the dark jeans. Injecting a bit of Christopher Kane’s Princess Margaret on acid into the emblem of contemporary dressing is a brave feat. Although we’re not rushing to sideline our J Brand favourites just yet, the concept of seeing somebody – all hips gyrating to Swedish House Mafia – in a club, donning a pair of these fluorescent fancies dipped in glow in the dark resin coating is most definitely a novel concept. The catch? They’re only available for men at the moment, but if this season’s androgynous trend is anything to go by, you can definitely justify stealing them from your guy. And for the art enthusiasts among us who wish to invest in a timeless piece, a few wears into the Naked & Famous creation and you’ll begin to notice wear patterns as the coating fades in certain areas, leaving you the proud artist and owner of a custom pair. Convinced yet?
Read MoreWhere we went on FNO: the high street
This is a guest post by Lois Mills, one of our (frankly brilliant) competition winners. Last night we sent her on a special mission to sift out the sweetest soirees taking place on the high street at Fashion’s Night Out – and not one to turn down a challenge, she triumphed in her task. Here, Lois shares her experiences on her very first Fashion’s Night Out… The night everyone has been talking about has arrived: Vogue’s Fashion’s Night Out. You know that you can only expect greatness when three of the best words in the dictionary are used all in the same title (and in case you’re having a little difficulty choosing which three words I mean, let’s just say I’m not a fan of the ‘out’doors!). Having caught a little of what happened at last year’s events, and having spoken to Daisy (the other competition winner) about what to wear, I was giving my outfit choice some serious consideration. In the end I went for a very Seventiess vibe, with high-waist purple velvet trousers, a green vintage vest and a studded black belt; topped off with a retro pair of glasses and a black wedge-and-sock combo for my feet! On the train, I was busily taking advantage of the VFNO app; discovering what was going on in every store whilst viciously scribbling them down, trying to be strategic and rank them in order of importance and closeness to one another. A few minutes later, and my list was longer than Oxford Street itself – tonight was going to be hectic! For me, the night began in John Lewis – there were three fashion shows running over the course of the evening, and Mischa Barton was present at one of them. Fingers crossed. I was at the first show, and […]
Read MoreHandbag Hunter: See by Chloe Tea suede fringed bag
This See by Chloe Tea suede fringed bag is quite the little number for this season. With its mass of fringing and natural colouring, this is the perfect cross-body bag for creating that Seventies look. With its cute, compact size and adorable shape, it’s got the form of the essential drawstring bag with the modernism of a magnetic snap closure. Basically, I’m in love. Its small size will also provide us with a lesson in how to pack light (something I have no concept of), as it’s only going to be the essentials that will fit in its adorable suede folds. This versatile piece is just the kind of bag I’m forever on the hunt for. It’ll work with everything and anything in my wardrobe, and I can’t wait to team it with my new white blazer and turned-up jeans. At £280, I’d be willing to hand the cash over. Who’s going to say no to a festival classic from Chloe that will work season after season? I certainly won’t. See by Chloe Tea Suede Fringed Bag, £280, available at my-wardrobe.com.

Read MoreAccessory Adventures: Dana Kellin Diamond Pendant
Yes, it’s a diamond necklace, but not as you know it. Forget the predictable solemnity of a solitaire stone hanging limp from a chain, Dana Kellin’s design reinvents the diamond pendant as a no mere thing of beauty, but an eye catching piece brimming with personality. Arranged mosaic style on a bed miniature gold pieces, the uncut diamonds lack the pomp of over-polished stones and gleam even brighter against the pendent’s gold wire frame. Big, bold and oh so beautiful the pendant may say statement, but the long and delicate gold chain says laid back, making it versatile enough to glitter both day and night. This season the catwalks have been overflowing with seventies inspired looks, and even the quickest glance at the autumn catwalks will reveal that the trend shows no signs of slowing down. If you’re not ready to go all out in top to toe Halston Heritage, this piece is the perfect nod to the trend. With the pendant’s round, discus shape and gold finishing, the necklace references glitzy late Seventies glamour and captures just that little bit of disco diva chic, while its contemporary design makes it nothing less than timeless. Dana Kellin Diamond Pendent, £450, available at Astley Clarke

We’ve picked our favourite from the weekend’s glam ceremonies in part two of our best dressed guide. See the stars that made the cut in Cannes below… Clemence Poesy (x2) The chic French actress Clemence Posey attended the Pirates of the Caribbean premiere in this stunning sky blue dress. The colour looked lovely against her porcelain skin, the cut flattered her fabulous figure and the teal peep-toes completed the look perfectly – ethereal yet modern. Later, at Calvin Klein’s Women in Cannes party, Clemence proved her versatility and showed she can pull off short and sexy just as well. Wearing Calvin Klein (naturally), she switched up her style with this white shift dress, strappy sandals and big curly hair. Penelope Cruz (x2) Penelope Cruz chose a sexy figure-hugging midnight blue Stella McCartney dress for the Pirates of the Caribbean photocall. The colour is beautiful on her and we love the matching courts. With a figure and a head of hair that fabulous, she kept her jewellery to a minimum. Gorgeous. Later in the day for the premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean , the Spanish actress upped the ante in Marchesa. Flaunting her famous curvy figure, the intricate mix of delicate lilac tulle, heavy embellishment and ruffles made for a pretty perfect look for Penelope.
