Rita Ora vs. Ciara…Who wore Emilio Pucci better?

We can always expect dresses with serious style bite to stride down the Emilio Pucci runway. And this week’s Who Wore it Better contestants are battling it out in a dress by none other than Mr. Peter Dundas –  a man who knows how to make maximum impact with minimum length. Parading their gorgeous bods in a striking, barqoue-print studded mini dress this week are Rita Ora and Ciara, who both wore the same dress from the autumn/winter 2013 collection, albeit months apart. First up, Rita Ora slipped into the printed mini at the Chime for Change after party back in June. Pairing the dress with Casadei gladiator heels; her icy blonde barnet was styled into a retro-inspired, curly up do, accented by strong brows and her signature red lip. But giving the dress its second outing was Ciara, who wore it to the Emilio Pucci store opening on Avenue Montaigne during Paris Fashion Week. Replicating the runway look, Ciara wore the dress with over-the-knee boots, keeping her hair and makeup pretty subdued. Now, who to choose as this week’s fash-off champ? Well, given both ladies put their personal spin on the dress, we’ve fallen head over boots in love with Ciara’s take on the runway piece. Neutral makeup, Frenchie bed head hair and THOSE boots are true winners for us, putting Rita’s more is more approach firmly in the no-no pile. Agree with our style verdict? Let us know your thoughts below.

“I have one of the best jobs in the world” – Solange Knowles, The Edit

Net-a-Porter’s The Edit is up there with the best of them when it comes to creating powerful covers. The latest issue features none other than Solange Knowles on the cover, and to say it’s breathtaking would be a complete understatement. Looking like a dead ringer for her older sister Beyonce, Solange – complete with a very lengthy barnet – poses pretty on the beach showing off her figure and the newest beach threads. We particularly love the royal blue maxi J Crew dress she is rocking on the front cover! The 27-year-old singer and style maven opened up to the mag about her latest projects, her music sound, and collaborating with big sis Bey… “I don’t think any part of myself as an artist has ever had a moment of intention execution,” she began. “It’s all just been an evolution. I’ve been able to watch such an incredible performer as my sister close-up. It’s molded me. And now I’m letting my son watch me. “I’m having the time of my life. I have one of the best jobs in the world, and to be able to [perform] for an hour a day and make a career out of it, I’m incredibly humbled by it.” Click here to read more from her interview, see more pics, and of course, find out where to shop the pieces in the editorial shoot.

And you also don’t need us to tell you that white is one of the hottest shades of the summer. We love these Dune badboys as they come with a mid-level chunky heel that will not only give us height, but will be totally acceptable to wear with all our summer pieces on holiday. Paris Hilton vs. Miranda Kerr…Who wore Topshop better?

Championing the humble high street this week are two ladies more accustomed to the high end world. Super-stunner, Miranda Kerr, and scene –stealing (in many ways) socialite Paris Hilton both stepped out in the same printed Topshop  maxi skirt, and we couldn’t resist a fash-off! Totally digging every high street hit we can land our peepers on, let’s begin with Miranda – the queen of all things dressed down and cool. OK, so she may be on par with Jessica Alba when it comes to a stellar off-duty wardrobe, but we can safely say we can’t stop ogling Mrs. Bloom’s radiant complexion and off-runway style antics. Nothing short of perfect with every relaxed ensemble, Miranda pulled this maxi-vest dress look off with aplomb, as she styles it with a simple, halter-neck style black vest, flat T-bar sandals and her beloved Givenchy Antigona tote. Face-framing sunnies and flowing glossy locks, not to mention an adorable toddler, polished off the look with perfection. Stepping out in the same skirt, Paris Hilton took to the sandy beaches of Malibu on the very same day! A sucker for girly style, Ms. Hilton opted to pair the budget skirt, which features a leg-flashing side split, with a deep v-neck, cut-out detail bodycon top (which we assume is a swimsuit). Paris finished off her look by accessorising with oversized sunnies, flat pumps and a beach tote. So, whose look is a firm winner? Well, both ladies put their individual style stamps on the high street skirt, but we’re sticking with Aussie beauty Miranda on this one! By adding black to the mix, Miranda has toughened up the whimsy feel of the skirt, whilst Paris’s look appears a little ‘all over the place.’ Do you agree with our fash-off verdict?

Rise of the luxury basics

Forming the foundations of a well-honed wardrobe, basics play an important part in everything from outfit recycling to look-building. Those vital pieces we return to repeatedly, without the fear of being accused of the ‘same outfit’ by fellow fashion friends, are crucial to making our wardrobes work that bit harder. But the recent return to comfort and causal cool in fashion has inevitably seen a rise in demand for these basic clothing items, marking them out as something of a luxury product. Take our current sneaker obsession, for example; upscale department store, Liberty has reworked the classic Nike Air Max 1 trainer with its iconic print, and now we’re keeping them on our feet post-work commute. Isabel Marant’s continuous stream of reworked £300+ wedge sneakers are instant sell-outs on luxury e-tail sites such as Net-a-Porter and Matches, and a plain cotton tee is no longer a snatch-and-grab lunchtime buy at Topshop, but rather a well thought out James Perse or T by Alexander Wang affair, cashing in at £60 and above. Whatever happened to keeping basics basic (pardon the pun)? In a time where print and maximalism overload seems to reign freely, are we all scurrying back to the neutral nonchalance of the Nineties, minus the grunge factor? A clean style slate is always a winner, especially if you don’t want to conform to a particular trend tribe, but are the upscale prices and luxe labels automatically attached to plain garments that don’t look much different to their high street alternatives justified at all? (Cue: £11,000 diamond skinny jeans.) We guess the runways are partly to blame, thanks to the likes of Balenciaga, Alexander Wang and Céline championing the minimalist movement, making us want to ditch our Mary Katrantzou prints. But if the fashion gods are dictating this newfound love […]

Janelle Monae’s slick Dolce and Gabbana tux at the BET 2013 Awards

White was definitely the unofficial colour of the night on the 2013 BET Awards red carpet in Los Angeles yesterday. Destiny’s Child’s Michelle Williams, Mya, Angela Simmons and Paula Patton were just a few of the ladies who rocked the summery shade, but it was R&B singer Janelle Monae who stole the show for us. Ever the slick and suave dresser, Janelle did what she did best and rocked a fierce tux like a true pro. She went for a white Dolce and Gabbana suit on this occasion, and teamed it with her signature gravity-defying hairdo, attention-grabbing red lipstick, layers of neck bling (including a stunning Katarina Maxine choker), Jimmy Choo Lance sandals, and bags of attitude. Androgyny with a fierce feminine twist; Janelle nails the look each and every time. A signature look for a reason, she never fails to wow on a red carpet! Would you be brave enough to attempt her look?

Julien Macdonald x Melissa Odabash debut Resort 2014 collection in London

Last night we headed to London’s swanky ME Hotel Radio Rooftop Bar (which is stylishly situated opposite our go-to London Fashion Week destination, Somerset House) to witness the second Julien Macdonald x Melissa Odabash swimwear and beachwear collection make its gorgeous runway debut. The Saturdays’ Mollie King, Made in Chelsea’s Rosie Fortescue, singer (and Amy Winehouse’s goddaughter) Dionne Bromfield, and model/TV presenter Zara Martin were a few of the famous faces who joined the models on the catwalk, which just goes to show that Julien and Melissa’s collection (does using first names make it sound like we are bosom buddies? We aren’t (just yet) but it makes us feel good!) collection really is for everyone. Stunning Grecian inspired long dresses/cover-ups were juxtaposed with short, sexy dresses perfect for a beach party, along with essential summer-ready swimsuits and bikinis that made us want to swear off chocolate for good. The sexy bold green maxi and the embellished white cut-out swimsuit are among our favourites; what about you guys? [Images c/o Julien Macdonald x Melissa Odabash Resort 2014]

Inject some fun into your wardrobe with these 5 quirky pieces

Sometimes, a shopping spree calls for steering clear of the straight of narrow sartorial path, and instead introducing some interesting pieces in to your wardrobe Seasoned shoppers know the thrill of picking up a zany piece, probably ignored by every other ‘safe’ shopper, and thinking: how would Anna Dello Russo wear this? And when that happens, consider it a fashion gold moment, because no one does quirky quite like the empress of eclecticism herself, ADR! Not only do quirky additions to your closet refresh an all-black, editrix-style wardrobe, but injecting a little fun in to your style is really what fashion is all about. But fear not. A smattering of raffia tassels here and an animated pout there; here are five crazy, quirky and partially bonkers pieces we want to wear right now. Statement sweatshirts have reigned supreme over the fashion scene for some time now, and were totally digging this Zebra Sequin Embellished one from high street favourite, River Island. Want to be the most stylish wedding guest? Here’s some inspiration…

Well, we assume the answer to the above question would be a resounding yes! Given that you shouldn’t aim to upstage the bride, being a wedding guest can be super-fun once the wardrobe is on point. From breaking the traditional code of wedding guest dressing (come on, rule-breaking is fun), to ensuring you get the summer wedding look right without looking like an unfortunate bridesmaid, we’ve decided to do a little wedding guest wardrobe homework to help you out. So, if like us you’re done with dressing like your headed to Ascot (just without the horses), and want to make more of a statement whilst skilfully dodging the weirdo photographer, here are three different looks that’ll ensure you’re the envy of the guest list. Unconventional The look: Top, £32, Trouser, £150, both available at Topshop; Clutch, £750, Heels, £456, both available at Net-a-Porter. Why we love it: Because it doesn’t involve a dress! If you’re tired of traditional wedding guest gear, go with a smart tuxedo trouser look, but instead of suiting it up, wear with an embellished cami. Add a jolt of colour with statement accessories that will accent your look nicely, and prevent the grey from looking too dull. Summer wedding The look: Dress, £65, available at Oasis; Earrings, £25, available at Asos; Sandals, £525, available at My Theresa. Why we love it: Ah, we do love a good summer wedding, but we’re not going all sickly sweet with the wardrobe! This floral print dress is perfect for a party in the sun, and throwing crystal earrings and metallic sandals into the mix nicely nods to the futuristic trend. Who said pretty dresses have to be sugar and spice, and all… Evening affair The look: Dress, £395, available at Karen Millen; Clutch, £60, available at Miss Selfridge; Pumps, £595, available […]

Midweek Moodboard: Casual cool

Another Bank Holiday is approaching, and while we will be using our Monday day off to recover from Sunday night’s partying (painting the town red on a school night is rare so we may as well make the most of it!) we will also be using it to chill out and relax. This means donning suitably chilled out and relaxing clothes, which is sometimes easier said than done when we feel we need our tightest dresses and highest heels to look our best. However, we know it is possible to look and feel great while dressed-down too, which is why we went looking for some great casual attire this afternoon. Think boyfriend jeans, slouchy tops, flowing maxi skirts, and flat, comfortable shoes aplenty. Or if you want a celeb-approved way to give you an air of casual cool, why don’t you don a snapback cap?  If they’re good enough for Cara Delevingne and Rihanna…. Snapback cap, £21, available at USC Beacher espadrilles, £105, Tory Burch available at Harrods Pink outdoor pumps, £31.20, available at Ruby and Ed Trashed boyfriend jeans, £190, Ksubi available at Browns Deep raspberry linen cropped trousers, £22, available at Dorothy Perkins Swan print maxi skirt, £189, available at Ted Baker Grey vest top, £30, Religion available at House of Fraser Tan curve bag, £25, available at Dorothy Perkins

Fashion Charts: 5 things going up, and 5 things going down this month

Going up Punk fever: The punk revival was well and truly felt at this year’s Met Ball, with added thanks to Miley Cyrus’s outlandish barnet and Madonna’s flesh flashing shenanigans. But will it last? We hope the magical era is here to stay for good, so we can break fashion rules and paint our (not so flat) stomachs with anti-gun slogans. Check out our Punk inspo moodboard for your fix. Gatsby fever: Taking a detour from crazy hair and garish outfits, the other era the fashion world is currently dabbling in is the Roaring Twenties. With Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby set for release next week in the UK, expect a rise in opulent hair accessories, art deco prints and more flapper dresses you can shake a jazz dance move at! Shop our top Gatsby-inspired pieces here. Festival kick off: Although the major headliners are taking place smack bang in the middle of summer, several niche festivals are taking place this month, which can only mean one thing; getting your festival wardrobe into gear. Check out our top 10 picks here. Embellished tees: Luxe tees have been gaining momentum amongst the fash pack for some time now, so when we laid our peepers on the embellished 3.1 Phillip Lim Nueva York tee , we were sold at hello. The new low sandal: Or, dubbed the ‘Elvis’ sandal, thanks to the rhinestone detail; embrace summer’s new take on the gladiator sandal but with a flattering (read: pain-free) heel. Look to Isabel Marant for a high end hit, or Zara and Mango do equally stylish, pocket-friendly versions. Going down Glove sleeves: Come on, Kim! What were you thinking? Dressing to flatter your bump, we understand, is priority, but hand concealing doesn’t really come in to it. Enough said. Winter coats in spring: After experiencing […]

The Great Gatsby Edit: Top picks even Daisy Buchanan would approve!

So, The Great Gatsby fever has well and truly gripped Britain, ahead of its UK release on May 16, and we couldn’t help but sneakily slide into the action a slice of decadent Twenties fashion. With no less than 40 outfits from the film painstakingly slaved over by none other than the very high priestess of fashion herself, Miuccia Prada, we can’t begin to put into words the excitement we’re feeling on a sartorial level! So, to celebrate the release of Baz Luhrmann’s reinterpretation of the F.Scott Fitzgerald classic, we’ve picked out our favourite pieces inspired by the Gatsby era. But we’re not talking literal, fancy dress-esque pieces here, rather separates that hark back to the Roaring Twenties, but with a fresh and wearable feel. Capture Daisy Buchanan’s glamour with plenty of embellishment, art deco-inspired finishes and enough feather trims and luxe accessories to guarantee bagging your very own Jay Gatsby! Shop our top Twenties picks below. Tucker Gold Sequin Embroidered Cropped Jacket, £325, My Wardrobe: The perfect cover up with a retro feel; slip this over a slinky LBD and dance the night away. Black Double Feather Shoulder Chain Cape, £30, River Island: A Twenties sartorial affair wouldn’t be complete without a smattering of feathers. Wear this atop a simple, drop-waist dress for maximum effect. Drop Waist Ruffle Hem Dress, £95, Reiss: A classic Gatsby era silhouette, subtly updated for the 21st century woman. Lanvin Dedale Silver-tone Swarovski Crystal Clip Earrings, £585, Net-a-Porter: We love the art deco vibe these earrings exude; perfect show stoppers for an evening look. Miu Miu Satin Pumps with Faceted Crystals, £610, My Theresa: We can’t think of a better pair of heels […]

Holiday checklist: What to pack and what not to pack!

Is your girlfriend packing everything under (and maybe even including) the kitchen sink for your upcoming summer holiday? Don’t shake your heads and fists too much, because we know that men can also fall victim to packing too much – and the wrong things – for their holidays. This is why we’ve compiled a helpful travel essential list for you, so you can save room in your suitcase for all the souvenirs (read: cheap booze) on the way back. You’re welcome. Not to pack: Too many jeans. Denim takes up more room in your suitcase than you’d think, so only take two pair of jeans at most. We suggest one light colour and one dark colour for maximum mix-and-matching potential. Opt for chinos and board shorts instead! Camera. Bit of a nightmare, the camera. You’ll need to pack batteries, chargers, worry about memory cards and water damage etc… the list is practically endless. Use your phone instead to capture those fine holiday moments. Electric toothbrush and shavers. Believe it or not, the world functioned quite well without electric toothbrushes and shavers, so you can manage a few weeks without them too. You never know what electrical sockets are going to be available to you, so don’t run the risk of packing them for no reason! Hair products – we know you’re not as particular with your hair products as the ladies are, so don’t waste precious suitcase room with heavy shampoos and hair gels. These are cheap enough to buy on holiday (or use the ones provided in the hotel) and you can avoid the risk of them exploding all over your clothes. Aftershave. Believe it or not, your favourite aftershave will smell different on holiday than it does in your own country. Plus, you might find it really overpowering […]

Image and Insanity: Will the visual torment ever stop?

The ‘selfie’ culture has mostly destroyed all realms of the personal. From self-obsessed celebrities sharing half naked pictures, showing off toned limbs and abs to maximum effect, to the star blogger doing an #ootd (that’s outfit of the day to me and you) and reinforcing the idea that matchstick legs are a prerequisite to carrying off the latest Joseph leather legging purchase with the same panache as the e-tail model they were initially spied on. This week, the oft-discussed and somewhat tiresome issue of image – more specifically weight – has once again flared up with such intensity, that it’s a difficult topic to leave out of regular discussions around doughnuts and tea when the 3pm slump strikes (apologies for the painful irony associated with weight issues being dissected over a greasy yum yum). Most recently, the denizen of image-related controversy and champion of public hatred, Samantha Brick, appeared on This Morning to defend her view that, in order to attain happiness, women must remain on a constant diet to stay thin. Strong, but unsurprising words coming from a woman who declared her sheer beauty being the reason other women were out for her blood. And props to her for being so forthright in voicing her opinion; after all, we do exist in a free-speaking democratic country, right? But does it help that in the same week we have images of an unnaturally thin Abbey Clancy frolicking on a beach shoot in summery smalls, and sharing pictures of her prominent ribcage? Or the fact that there’s concern over Angelina Jolie’s limbs looking increasingly slimmer? Even Beyoncé has banned ‘natural’ photographs from being taken at her shows to prevent being caught off guard and looking normal, we suppose; instead preferring suspiciously perfectly angled shots depicting her in top form – hardly […]

Midweek Moodboard: Vamp inspiration

No prizes for guessing that Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 was our inspiration behind this week’s moodboard. Yes the last film in the epic Twilight Saga (sniff, pass the tissues etc) has indeed inspired us to get our vamp on one last time, so we might as well embrace the trend in all its glory before it’s too late. 3 key high street black leather buys

Fash fanatics will be well informed that leather was the order of the season for autumn/winter’12. A sexed up guise took form for Fall as black leather made an appearance in glossy, patent and belted versions. Designers such as Valentino took the trend up a few notches by offering our leather hungry eyes the pleasure of viewing sleek, all-leather gowns, forcing us to rethink traditional evening wear choices. From the high-sheen, super desirable, oversized black leather jackets seen at Alexander Wang, to the leather-clad romantic Goth witnessed at Givenchy; leather is set to be far from a predictable new season statement maker. But for those fretting about the three figure prices for these high end designer garbs, have no fear! We’ve rounded up three of the best new season high street leather buys to update your wardrobe in a pocket-friendly flash! The leather biker jacket is a perennially cool must-have every style maven should own.  But this season we’re not talking about conventional biker, no. We’re opting to oversize (another major trend) and wearing ours slouchy over a plaid trouser and loose tee. Oversized leather biker jacket, £200, available at Topshop Ankle boots are the shoe-cessory of the season, and nothing beats a trusty leather version! The berry-hued Chelsea boot inserts are a perfect way to update a classic. KG Susie boots, £160, available at Kurt Geiger It’s the LBD reimagined! The clean silhouette and corset detail are the prefect nod to this season’s refreshed take on the Black Dress, and paired with statement accessories this minimalist dress promises maximum effect! Oversized outerwear! 3 styles to suit every budget

Upsizing your look was the key message conveyed by fashion heavyweights for autumn/winter ’12’, as the runways were awash with roomy wardrobe favourites.   Coats took form in desirable cocoon shapes, whilst jacket shoulders were drooped to give an oversized look and the ever faithful skinny silhouette on our bottom halves gave way to billowing trousers and voluminous skirts.   Setting our hearts aflutter with oversized offerings in the outerwear department was Jil Sander, where minimalist maestro Raf Simons took a rather maximalist approach to dressing us for this season. Simons reimagined our most important winter buy in the palest pink, roomy, collarless and cut from the softest cashmere.   Over at Proenza Schouler we were presented with with lust-inducing louche jackets in crisp white, sporting layered angular folds and rounded shoulders. But it was the jumbo-sized, drop-shouldered coats at Céline that sealed the oversize deal, rapidly transporting them to the top of every major editor’s lust list.   To celebrate the return of the silhouette that’s set to conceal a multitude of sins (nipped at the waist versions remind us of extra cakes blindly consumed) we’ve selected three of our favourite  oversized outerwear buys to suit every budget.   1. High end   Double Breasted Oversized Herringbone Coat with Wool, £95, available at Marks & Spencer

The Ultimate Trouser Edit

Trousers are in. So says fall 2012, and so say we – or so says our Ultimate Trouser Edit! The fall runways brought us the humble trouser in many guises: metallic, lamé, printed, wide-leg, cropped, tailored, cigarette…the list is endless. From ugly-pretty print combinations worked into form fitting trouser suits at Prada to leg swallowing wide-leg versions at Proenza Schouler, and the decorative trouser knew no bounds, thanks to the super-sexy, embellished cropped trouser bought to us courtesy of Balmain. However you decide to edit your fall wardrobe, ensure your new season collection includes the trouser and don’t just opt for one type of cut or colour. Like the runways, experiment with print and invest in various textures and embroidered versions to take your trouser out of the office and into cool territory. Even though we do love our minis and maxis we will definitely be clocking up a healthy-looking trouser wardrobe to ensure fall is a fabulous (and chill-free) one. ‘The Fun Print Trouser’: Polka Dot Silk & Wool Trousers by Sonia By Sonia Rykiel, £275 ‘The Chic Crop’: Black Queen Gaberdine Stretch Slim Cropped Trousers by Joseph, £175 ‘The Metallic Trouser’: Cortensa Shimmering Surface Gold Lame Trousers by By Malene Birger, £225 ‘The Lace Capri’: Lace Capri Trousers by Moschino Cheap & Chic, £350 ‘The Skinny Tuxedo Trouser’: Black Skinny Tuxedo Trousers by Tibi, £191 ‘The Bright Trouser’: Orange Kong Cropped Trousers by Joseph, £177 ‘The Printed Cigarette Pant’: Leopard Woven Cigarette Pant by 3.1 Phillip Lim, £156 ‘The Luxe Wide-leg Trouser’: Silk Georgette Relaxed Pleat Front Trouser by Raoul, £244

Diane Kruger and Dianna Agron sport contrasting looks at Louis Vuitton party

Blonde beauties Diane Kruger and Dianna Agron both attended a fab Louis Vuitton party at New York’s Whitney museum last night to celebrate the brand’s collaboration with Yayoi Kusama. We thought all of the guests would embrace the loud theme of the Louis Vuitton for Yayoi Kusama collection, but Diane Kruger proved that even the most minimal of outfits can hold its own in a room full of bold and colourful decor and guests. Diane once again showcased her style credentials as she wore a sheer (but not in the trashy way, thank you) maxi skirt paired with a gorgeous brown, white and blue kimono jacket. Her up-do and gold earrings complemented the rest of her look perfectly – top marks to Diane, as usual! Glee’s Dianna Agron also ranked highly, as she really turned on the wow-factor in an embellished, printed blue, black and brown dress. Although she wore plain shoes and minimal jewellery, Dianna made up for it with her ultra-glam make-up and expertly tousled hair. She definitely embraced the theme of the collection and occasion! Both blonde bombshells looked divine at the event, but whose look do you prefer? [poll id=”357″] [Images]

Rate or Slate Emma Stone, Whitney Port and Diane Kruger’s style choices?

Emma Stone has been doing the rounds at glamorous parties and premieres for her latest movie The Amazing Spider-man, and as expected, she’s been pulling out style-startler after style-startler on the red carpet! Up this week is Emma in a Dolce & Gabbana fall 2012 number at the Madrid premiere for the film. Next up is Whitney Port in a Camilla and Marc fall 2012 number, as she attended the press launch for ‘Britain & Ireland’s Next Top Model’. Surprisingly, this outfit looks more spring/summer than fall, and the Kurt Geiger ‘Enigma’ mules add a touch of the beloved high street! Finishing this week’s Rate or Slate is our fashion favourite Diane Kruger at the NHL Awards, in an Alessandra Rich spring/summer 2012 number. This lady is a recurring vision of style perfection on the red carpet, but with this look, we’re still deciding… It’s over to our Style Jury to dissect… Fashion News Ed, Maria says: Emma Stone: ‘I can see how this dress could look so wrong on so many people but I don’t think Emma Stone is one of them. I loved this dress on the runway and Emma’s subtle hair, make-up and accessorising really helps translate it from catwalk to real life. The colour palette complement’s Emma’s skin tones beautifully. No surprises – this is my favourite.’ Whitney Port: ‘I can take or leave Whitney’s look here. It’s nothing special and the shoes are really offending me but I like the mishmash of colours which is just what this country needs! Maybe this will look better from behind a judges desk!’ Diane Kruger: ‘I wish the top half had been a little less blocky and a bit more dainty and elegant like Diane Kruger herself, but there’s no denying that she still looks gorgeous.I like the […]

Rate or Slate: Olivia Palermo in Zara, Paris Hilton in Alice + Olivia and Jaime Winstone in Giles

We’ve got quite the mix of style for this week’s Rate or Slate! Naturally, a little Coachella fashion has been thrown into the mix, alongside what we saw on the red carpet. Ever the indecisive lot, we’re having a little situation with making our minds up on this week’s starlets. Olivia Palermo wore a Zara ensemble to the ‘Safe’ New York Premiere, and chose to recycle some instantly recognisable accessories, including an insanely beautiful vintage Hermes clutch. Extrovert socialite, Paris Hilton, wore her colourful personality in skirt form, as she channelled a boho vibe by opting for the printed Shannon skirt by Alice + Oliva as one of her many Coachella outfits. Teaming with a white bandeau top and fringed statement necklace, Paris’s outfit sure turned heads. Jaime Winstone appeared on the red carpet in an interesting Giles number for the premiere of her latest film, ‘Elfie Hopkins’. Sporting a shaved head as part of her latest role as a soldier in the new series of Mad Dogs, we’re not sure what we think of her latest avatar. It’s over to our discerning Style Jury… Fashion News Ed says: ParisHilton: ‘I know Paris always does this look, but as she does it so well, I can’t really complain. She totally embraced the Coachella theme! Insanely jealous of those rock hard abs, too.’ Olivia Palermo: ‘Olivia is my fave; she hardly ever puts a foot wrong and this is no exception. The accessorising is perfect too… such a babe, as always!’ Jaime Winstone: ‘On first glance, Lady Gaga’s infamous meat dress came to mind… There’s nothing wrong with Jaime’s dress per se, I think it’s just a bit ill-fitting and doesn’t really do her any favours. I’ve seen better from her!’ You say: ‘Olivia Palermo is always the best! She is […]

mai marimoto lungta de fancy

Five minutes with Lady Gaga’s fave shoe designer, Lungta de Fancy

Despite Lungta De Fancy designer Mai Marimoto being on her way to celebrating the 10th anniversary of the brand, penning a book and branching out into lingerie in the next coming months, the Central Saint Martins graduate remains a humble and fuss-free designer with a true passion and talent for her work – and a desire to please every one of her shoppers. And, since we mention it, those shoppers happen to include some of fashion’s most famous faces from Lady Gaga to Victoria Beckham and Rihanna (and even a royal, too). The appeal, it seems, is her ability to meet every girl’s needs. You can find Lungta De Fancy in London’s New Bond Street, Knightsbridge and St Christopher’s Place, which is where we caught up with the designer last week as part of the fabulous Thank You Thursdays shopping event. Find out what Mai Marimoto told us about her inspirations, her plans for the label, and those Lady Gaga shoes…   How do you manage to balance getting the maximum out of your creativity and keeping the prices down to (relatively) affordable prices? I understand that every customer is special so I wouldn’t mind if someone came up to me and said ‘I love this’, but it needs to be a bit different here so each item can be individual if that’s how a lady wants it. Every lady is something special and everyone has different figures. For three of our stores we do free alterations so we like to make sure it fits the client perfectly before their special event. Like this client that’s come in today – she thinks the dress is a little too long so we are fixing it to how she likes for no extra cost. London isn’t the only place you have a […]

Sneak peek: Benetton’s new capsule collection for AW11

Yesterday we popped into Benetton to sneak a peek at its new capsule collection, and in case you’re wondering, it’s satisfyingly gorgeous. In a special mini collection for autumn, softly tailored separates, snuggley knits, sleek snakeskin and delicate drapes form a feminine but directional line for the high street brand, which stands strong on its own as well as slipping in seamlessly with the mainline. Luxe-feeling fabrics featuring soft feather prints help dresses feel fresh for the new season, while dainty blouses and billowing maxi lengths give a gentle nod to the Seventies and all its relaxed glamour. Look out for our favourites – the cropped chunky knit sweater, the pleated maxi skirt and a pair of cool straight-leg snakeskin trousers… [nggallery id=88]

Who wore it best? Kim vs Khloe Kardashian in Myne

Celebrities often have the misfortune of someone with more star power wearing exactly the same dress. It’s a fierce competition to look good in Hollywood, and dressing to impress is of utmost importance. So imagine how it feels when your own sister is spotted in exactly the same dress! The copy-cat fiasco happened to none other than the super-competitive Kardashians! They both wore the same maxi Myne silk dress – thankfully on different occasions. Of course, the ever stylish and fashion forward Kim managed to out manoeuvre her sister by wearing the dress first. Kim chose the silk dress for her new fragrance campaign, wearing it to a photo shoot session. Kim’s choice of colour was nude to complement her olive skintone, acessorised with gladiator style sandals, gold cuffs, a statement gold necklace and her trademark tumbling curled tresses. Khloe Kardashian, on the other hand, opted for a more bold shade choice with the luminous magenta pink version. She wore the maxi Myne to a dress fitting at Vera Wang, and paired it with heeled brown sandals, minimal accessories, a basic black handbag and the same relaxed hairstyle as Kim. But the real question here is, which Kardashian wore it best? Kim’s nude gladiator style, or Khloe’s bright and beautiful colour popping pink style?

Beachwear for your body shape: Apple

Beachwear suited to your body shape is just as much a pressing matter as Kate Middleton’s next (diplomatically chosen) fashionable ensemble. Getting it right when it comes to body-baring season is essential as undoubtedly you want to look your best in the summer sun.  Therefore, it’s important to know what we sartorially click with – but this may not always agree with our body types. If your shape suspiciously resembles the said fruit (read: larger bust, broad shoulders, narrower hips with a less defines waist), following our beachwear guideline below with our top picks for your shape will have you boat party-bikini ready quicker than your passion fruit caipirinha arrives! The key to dressing an apple shape is creating balance by drawing attention away from the heavier, top half of your body. Opting for under wired bikini tops ensures fantastic support and lift for the bust area. Avoid halter-neck bikini tops as they risk making shoulders appear wider than they are, instead opting forthicker straps. Wrap-dresses provide a refreshing take on cover-ups and are easily adjustable for a looser, or a more defined look. Opt for brightly-hued or boldly printed, highwaisted bikini bottomsfor maximum attention on your lower half and also seek out swimsuit options with stomach flattering, built-in shape control.
