Fun, glamorous autumn/winter pieces at Wallis!

Yesterday we headed to Arcadia HQ to check out what fab new clothes, shoes and accessories Wallis had in store for us for the autumn/winter 2012 season, and have to admit that we left with a wish-list as long as both arms combined. Great for Wallis and Britain, (which is reportedly no longer recession-hit, wahoo!) but bad news for our bank accounts. There’s an abundance of fun and glamorous jumpers available, which would be great to wear over the Christmas holidays over anything from skin-tight leather leggings to cute pencil skirts and more. Everyone needs some sparkle in the winter months! The coats are also particularly striking this season too, with lots of faux fur pieces that are a surefire way to get you noticed. And don’t even get us started on the Christmas party dresses and ultra-sparkly, attention-grabbing accessories! We even got to take part in a fun photoshoot with some of our favourite pieces and some very cute props (I personally had to go for the bold red lips and Kanye West style glasses – couldn’t resist!). What do you think of the gorgeous oversized black and white print coat? That’s definitely a piece of clothing that will keep out the winter chill! Head to Wallis right now to check out the rest of the new-season pieces and get your credit and debit cards lined up!

Get Ginnifer Goodwin’s sparkly high street look

As much as we love celeb style stalking, we do admittedly get a bit depressed when we find out that the A-listers are wearing the finest Couture and most exclusive, unobtainable bespoke outfits. This is why we do exaggerated star jumps when we discover our fave stars are wearing high street – and Ginnifer Goodwin’s latest appearance in LA is a beautiful example of this. We were ecstatic when we found out what her sparkling green dress was from none other than French Connection – and better yet, that it’s still available! Ginnifer’s shoes however aren’t as affordable (sniff) as they are in fact Jimmy Choos, but never fear, we found some black t-bar sandals that go with the dress quite nicely too! Is this not a perfect Christmas party outfit? Ozlem dress, £120, French Connection available at Very.co.uk Black t-bar platform sandals, £12, Spot on available at Debenhams

Lea Michele continues to get it right in Emilio Pucci

There’s no stopping Lea Michele on the red carpet these days! Glee‘s leading lady once again put her best foot forward and stepped out onto the Fox All-Star Party red carpet (technically it was blue, but as Blair Waldorf would say…  “semantics”) in a stunning dusty pink Emilio Pucci dress from the autumn/winter 2012 collection. Lea loves her a short hemline – she definitely has the legs for it – so we were pleasantly surprised to see her going for something slightly more demure in that department. However, she still flashed the flesh by way of the plunging and very daring neckline, which showed off her bronzed skin rather nicely. We don’t think many of her male admirers will be complaining at all! The lack of jewellery, subtle make-up and messy side plait completed her look, making this yet another red carpet triumph for the girl otherwise known as Rachel Berry. (The shoes were a bit too clompy for us on this occasion, but we’ll let it slide…)

Rachel Weisz for Marie Claire UK September, plus info on Marie Claire’s Runway a/w 2012 edition!

If you follow us on Twitter, you may know that we attended a fabulous party for the launch of Marie Claire’s September issue at Home House – and we can now officially reveal that the mag’s cover girl is none other than Rachel Weisz! As much as we loved Rachel on the cover of British Vogue’s July issue, we must admit that her glammed up look – with her enviable, voluminous brunette waves bouncing off her shoulders – has won us over just that little bit more! The subs cover has blown us away, but they’re both rather flawless, don’t you think? Two Rachel Weisz covers aren’t all the magazine are giving us, oh no. Marie Claire has officially launched the autumn/winter 2012 edition of Runway, which also really handily now comes as an iPad app – not to be missed if you want to stay ahead of every single emerging catwalk trend! Ps: we also ran into the flawless Frankie Sandford from The Saturdays and she was kind enough to pose for us in her Rachel Gilbert dress and colour-explosion shoes. What a babe! Do you guys have shoe/dress/hair/face envy or is it just us?

Rate or Slate: Agyness Deyn vs. Kim Kardashian vs. Laura Haddock

This week’s Rate or Slate consists of some rather interesting dress choices. Agyness Deyn embraced the vivid side of colour, sporting a red House of Holland AW12/13 dress, sheer tights and matching red shoes at the Empire Awards 2012. Kim Kardashian, meanwhile, made sure all eyes were on her and those famed curves, after she turned up to celebrity Blogger Perez Hilton’s Mad Hatter tea party themed 34th birthday bash in a monochrome optical illusion number, complete with fascinator. The Inbetweeners actress Laura Haddock, (who plays Will’s love interest Alison in the movie), opted for a sultry, black lace Emilio Pucci number for the Empire Awards 2012. The looks are in and it’s over to the Style Jury… MFL Fashion New Editor says: ‘None of these outfits particularly wowed me the way last week’s impressive bunch did, and, although my jaw hasn’t hit the floor, I have to admit that all three ladies look lovely!’ Agyness: ‘I love seeing Agyness Deyn unleashing her feminine side, and red is definitely a hot colour for her, although I wish she didn’t wear the tights.’ Kim: ‘As always, Kim looks curvy-licious and beautiful, so no change there.’ Laura: ‘In my opinion, Laura Haddock would win if this were a competition between the three girls, as her look is simple but not safe; definitely a glam and appropriate choice for the Empire Awards.’ You say: ‘Agnyess looks really pretty. Best she’s looked in a long time in my opinion! She suits the bob way more than the buzz cut!’ – @KatieArmstrong via Twitter ‘Absolutely Deyn!’ – @wildanteddy Verdict: RATE to the power of three! Looks like My Fashion Life HQ and our loyal readers are definitely digging all three looks!

No pain no gain: 7 ridiculously high heels we need NOW

Be warned, your feet will not thank you for reading this post. While flats will always have the monopoly on comfort, sometimes a girl just needs skyscrapers! You know, those huge 5-inch heels that make you feel on top of the world. They might have us wincing in pain by the end of the night and they may dwindle away our bank account every time we splurge on a new pair, but there is something just too irresistible about high heels. Marilyn Monroe once said “I don’t know who invented high heels, but all women owe him a lot”. Well we would certainly have to agree with you on that one Marilyn! These lofty 5-inch heels from Pierre Hardy are almost to gorgous to resist. Made from fuchsia and beige patent, they are gloriously girly and we need them now… Pierre Hardy Neoprene and Patent Shoes, £728, available at My-wardrobe   There is something eternally chic about red heels and this oxblood pair from Camilla Skovgaard are divine. They instantly rock up any outfit and trigger envious glances wherever they go… Sam Eldman Black Lorissa Peeptoe Court Shoe with Studded Heel, £177, available at My-wardrobe   Cheryl Cole has definately worn her fair share of heels over the years so who better to design a shoe collection? A day in the life of our editor

Two weeks ago, when we attended Diesel and Grazia’s reader event to celebrate the brand’s official relaunch for pre-SS12, we hand-picked (from a hat, natch) a name. That name would get to accompany our editor, Emily, for a day to get a glimpse into the sometimes-glamorous but often-frantic life of a fashion editor. That name was Omena Ukeleghe. She was our winner. And here’s her story… The day started with a press lunch at the Bicester Village’s VIP suite, where Emily and I met the PR and marketing team from Bicester Village. They had laid on a truly scrumptious lunch, and as part of a VIP press pack, we were given a generous £50 card and 10% discount. After lunch, we went to burn some cash at the numerous high street and designer label outlet stores at the Village where, thanks to the additional £50 gift card and discount, I bought myself a gorgeous pair of emerald green heels (I’m a sucker for a lovely pair of heels). I also bought a jumper – a practical purchase, I know, but ’tis season to wrap up warm. A hop and a skip on the train back to London and we were whizzed away in a car to my first pampering session in preparation for the evening’s event. First port of call was Tommy Guns for my hair and then onto the Powder Puff girls to get my make up and nails done. They did a fantastic job! The final port of call before our big event was the Diesel store on Carnaby Street to pick out my outfit for the night ahead. With £250 to spend at the store (thanks Diesel!), I went for a pair of Jegonfire super slim denim leggings that made my legs look so hot they would […]

Five minutes with Lady Gaga’s fave shoe designer, Lungta de Fancy

Despite Lungta De Fancy designer Mai Marimoto being on her way to celebrating the 10th anniversary of the brand, penning a book and branching out into lingerie in the next coming months, the Central Saint Martins graduate remains a humble and fuss-free designer with a true passion and talent for her work – and a desire to please every one of her shoppers. And, since we mention it, those shoppers happen to include some of fashion’s most famous faces from Lady Gaga to Victoria Beckham and Rihanna (and even a royal, too). The appeal, it seems, is her ability to meet every girl’s needs. You can find Lungta De Fancy in London’s New Bond Street, Knightsbridge and St Christopher’s Place, which is where we caught up with the designer last week as part of the fabulous Thank You Thursdays shopping event. Find out what Mai Marimoto told us about her inspirations, her plans for the label, and those Lady Gaga shoes…   How do you manage to balance getting the maximum out of your creativity and keeping the prices down to (relatively) affordable prices? I understand that every customer is special so I wouldn’t mind if someone came up to me and said ‘I love this’, but it needs to be a bit different here so each item can be individual if that’s how a lady wants it. Every lady is something special and everyone has different figures. For three of our stores we do free alterations so we like to make sure it fits the client perfectly before their special event. Like this client that’s come in today – she thinks the dress is a little too long so we are fixing it to how she likes for no extra cost. London isn’t the only place you have a […]

Get the look: Carey Mulligan in Bottega Veneta

When it comes to dressing up for a night out, you can’t go wrong with a failsafe LBD. This was definitely proved correct when Carey Mulligan showed up at the 15th annual Hollywood Film Awards Gala in Beverly Hills recently wearing this gorgeous black Bottega Veneta number. The transparent halter straps and pulled-in waist were utterly flattering and sparkling sequin embellishment made it perfect for such a glittering night out. Of course, with the party season quickly approaching, the sparkly dress turns into somewhat of a hero piece and perhaps that’s why Carey’s one seems so perfect for now. She chose to accessorise with a simple pair of black Ferragamo peep-toe heels and a chic black studded boxy clutch bag. We love. If you want to achieve Carey’s young Hollywood look, here’s how to do it: This sequined number from Michael Kors is the perfect little black party dress. The flattering shape means it’s utterly chic without compromising on pizzazz. Michael by Michael Kors Crew Neck Dress, £250, available at my-wardrobe. Keep things simple but completely fabulous with a pair of black peep-toe heels. These from Christian Louboutin might be pricey, but you’ll love them forever. Christian Louboutin Bambou Suede Shoes, £495, available at Matches. An eye-catching sparkly box clutch will complete your look – this one from Oasis is our favourite find. Editor’s survival kit: London Fashion Week

As New York kicked off the month-long fashion processions last week, so London Fashion Week falls this Friday. We should be prepared, given that it only happens twice a year, but somehow it always manages to spring round the corner quicker than summer can stick around. And so, I find myself in the same situation every season. What the hell do I wear? What bag do I take to carry all my stuff? What shoes will I wear to combat the cobbles (and which flats should I take as precaution?)? While I’ve yet to answer any of those questions, there are a few things I know I’ll need: my can’t-survive-without-them essentials. From moisturiser to mints, these are things that litter my bag, without fail, every fashion week; the things that help me function; the things that help me breathe a little easier: my survival kit. So yes, while I do risk tripping over the dirt track due to some poorly-conceived heels, at least I’ll have hydrated skin. When I get stressed, so does my skin. I always keep a hand-sized tube of moisturiser in my bag to banish any dry spots inbetween shows – plus, it’s great for faking a dewy complexion pre-party (just press the palms of your hands gently onto your face as a final touch). Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream intensive daily moisturiser, £28 £25.20, available at Debenhams. From pre-party to post, I never leave the house without YSL’s Touche Eclat – it hides all signs of the night before’s bash (because though I might be feeling the effects of two hours sleep and too much champagne, nobody else need know!). Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat, £24.50 £22.05, available at Debenhams. When my skin’s looking lack-luster and lifeless after a long day of shows, I swear by […]

Kids’ Choice Awards 2011: Best Dressed

Every year the celebs turn out in full force to celebrate the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles, and whilst it might not be the Oscars, it doesn’t stop the attendees upping the fashion stakes in fantastic form. With such a young and cool atmosphere, heavy long gowns and Chopard jewels were out in favour of fresh, youthful looks at this year’s 24th awards, all set for the spring season ahead. We’ve scoured the orange carpet for pictures of our favourite fashionistas from the weekend’s ceremony, so without further ado, here are the emerging style setters that stole the show at the 2011 Kids’ Choice Awards. Welcome to our top 10 best dressed list… Selena Gomez Selena was a real winner on the night in this outfit. Her Christian Cota shorts and top combo looked fantastic paired with her electric blue Camilla Skovgaard strappy sandals. Fresh, young and the best dressed on the night. Miley Cyrus Miley looked fresh and summery in her colourful strapless dress by Dolce and Gabbana. She can sometimes dress too old for her age on the red carpet, but this look is perfectly appropriate. Pixie Lott Pixie looks cute and playful is this adorable Miu Miu dress. The heart print and quirky collar give her an edge over many of the other looks seen on the night. Black strappy shoes and a long black shoulder bag complete her look. Kim Kardashian Kim showed off her killer curves in this Azzedine Alaia white ruffled dress. The colour looks great against her skin tone and she accessorized well with a beautiful Adriana Castro python clutch. This is definitely one of the most carefree looks we’ve seen from Kim in a while. Heidi Klum Heidi looked effortlessly chic in this fantastically-embellished Gucci mini dress. The spiky detailing gives a […]

Olivia Rubin launches capsule accessories collection for Dune

Olivia Rubin’s highly-anticipated collection for Dune hit stores last weekend, and as pictures from the collection quickly make their way online, we popped down to the online launch last night to take a closer look at the collaboration. Fans of the London designer will be pleased to know she’s worked her signature prints across a range of shoes and bags for the high street store, where killer platforms, party-ready pumps, everyday wedges and adorable flats sit alongside silk clutches and handheld totes. Taking three key prints from her previous ready-to-wear collections, there’s three distinct directions – a contemporary take on classic monochrome, a playful Seventies disco vibe fusing arty prints with vibrant colour pops, and a softer neutral print reminiscent of Seventies safari. “It has been an incredible experience working with Dune on this collaboration and bringing a selection of my signature prints onto a range of both classic and contemporary shoes and accessories,” says Olivia. “They understand my vision as a designer and together we worked on creating a collection that has something for everybody – I can’t wait to wear them myself!” And she did last night – her favourites are the Warhol platforms (incidentally, each shoe is named after an artist), but more on that later. Olivia Rubin for Dune is available in Dune stores and online now, with prices ranging from £65 for a multi-coloured pump to £110 for the statement raffia platform sandals – we suggest getting in there quickly, they’re set to go down a storm. Psst – watch our interview with Olivia here to find out more. [nggallery id=9]

Kate Moss misses the mark in mint

It takes a rare occassion to see Mossy out after hours these days (fiancee Jamie Hince seems to have tamed her partying ways a bit) but it’s even more unusual to see her stepping out looking less than fabulous. This weekend the super attended a dinner party in North London wearing a floor-length mint green gown and vintage fur coat, but the unflattering tight satin, the silver shoes and the mismatched fur combined to make one of most disappointing outfits to date. And don’t get us started on the hair and make-up. Matching your eyeshadow to your dress shouldn’t be done after primary school. An example, ladies, of vintage glam gone gone. Who are you and what have you done with Kate Moss? Of course, we want to know your thoughts. What do you think of Mossy’s look: is it mint or a total miss? [poll id=”57″]

Love or hate? Amber Rose in Gianmarco Lorenzi boots

Like Lady Gaga and Nicki Manaj, Amber Rose’s outfits are usually put to together to leave us in shock and awe, but it’s starting to become a bit predictable. In fact, we’d be far better surprised if she played it safe in jeans and a T-shirt. During London Fashion Week, Amber Rose rocked up to Love magazine’s Alexander Wang party in the above all-red ensemble, complete with Gianmarco Lorenzi boots. Now mesh footwear’s a hot trend, but we think it’s best left to small detailing on dainty shoes to avoid going treading the border from tasteful to tacky. The boots probably aren’t the worse thing about Amber’s outift – a satin tomato coat over a pinky-red dress and tights? Really? – but the mid-calf length of the boots doesn’t flatter her legs, and wearing them with red tights definitely defeats the purpose of wearing peep-toes. But what do you think? Are Amber Rose’s boots fierce or just plain scary? [poll id=”37″]

Get the look: Emma Watson in Rafael Lopez

Emma Watson has gone from actress to model to fashion icon all before her 21st Birthday, and this latest show-stopping red carpet number again proves why we adore her effortlessly classic style. Ms. Watson attended the Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows film premiere in London last week in this ultra sleek and sophisticated black lace dress by Rafael Lopez. We love how the dress boasts a vintage vibe, whilst adding a modern twist with the feathered skirt – and with Emma’s new hair cut we can see the start of a 1920s theme. With the dress being the central statement of the outfit, Emma’s natural make up and barely-there accessories ensure all eyes are on the Lopez piece – but she doesn’t forget the sparkle with her dew drop earrings. Once again Ms. Watson has ticked all of our sartorial boxes, so here are our top picks for recreating her look… Lace Frill Skirt Dress, £30, ASOS The LLD is almost as staple as the LBD today, and this lace frill dress from ASOS shares a very similar cut and design to like the Lopez number. Short sleeves? Check. Lace chest? Check. Layered skirt (minus the feathers)? Check. We even love how it draws in at the waste to emphasise the tiered lace panels – just like the dropped waist on Emma’s dress. Office Square Black Nubuck heels, £75, eBay Fashion Outlet A pair of black pumps are a must-have for Emma’s sleek look, and we think these Office Nubuck heels are the perfect party pair. Not only are they a dead ringer for Emma’s courts with their sculpted toe and platform, but they’re a timeless design to rework again and again. Drop Chain Earrings, £7.50, Topshop Emma’s dew drop earrings add a touch of sophisticated sparkle to her […]

Get the look: Neve Campbell in Moschino

Stars gathered at Hampton Court last weekend, for the Raisa Gorbachev Foundation party. Attendees came together to show their support and raise money for the foundation, which is committed to the control and elimination of childhood cancer. Among those in attendance at the gala were: committee member Hugh Grant, designers Matthew Williamson and Patrick Cox, models Yasmin Le Bon and Lara Stone, and actresses Vanessa Redgrave, Joely Richardson and Angelica Huston. Scream star Neve Campbell also made an appearance, looking gorgeous in a long-sleeved mini dress from Moschino’s forthcoming AW2010 collection. Showing off those enviable pins and sporting a new, heavy fringe, Campbell looked groomed to perfection in the gold-trimmed number and statement gold cuff. We quite fancy recreating this simple yet stylish look ourselves, although since we don’t have the patience to wait for Moschino’s next collection, we’ve come up with a few suitable alternatives that will help to achieve a similar look… Dress by Milly (£335) available at Net-a-Porter. Whitney Port in Rachel Roy

Star of The City and general girl-about-town Whitney Port looks stunning in a canary yellow dress and bejewelled shoes, as she attends NYLON magazine’s young Hollywood party. Whitney manages to bring together just the right amounts of ‘fashion’ and ‘polished’ in this youthful yet sexy and style-driven look. Her bold yellow tube dress from Rachel Roy is a smart choice – it looks simple yet striking against her perfectly finished blonde hair and pale skin. With her sparkling multi-coloured Guiseppe Zanotti shoes Whitney shows her fashionista credentials by not being afraid of going for an eye-catching contrast with her footwear. Despite looking gorgeous Whitney had lots of competition from other stylish young attendees including Shenae Grimes, Amber Rose and Brit Peaches Geldof – but with her bright dress and enviable heels Whitney’s really pulled-together look won us over. For a similar look add a burst of colour to your wardrobe with this jersey dress from ASOS. Keep hair and makeup perfectly polished and add a pair of statement sparkle heels and you’re ready to go ahead and join the young and stylish Hollywood pack. Buy here now!

Round the table with Henry Holland and Gemma Cairney

As you well know, here at MFL we’re rather partial to a fashion TV series or two, and none more so than Frock Me with TK Maxx, back on TV screens in the UK for a second series to brighten up the bleakest Sunday mornings. Hosted by super-style icon Alexa Chung, London designer Henry Holland and Radio 1 style expert Gemma Cairney, Frock Me follows fashion through its rampant relationship with music as it highlights top trends for the season, chats to the very best in the business, gives DIY styling tips, and shows you how people on the street are working – and styling – the season’s best trends… in a nutshell. Naturally, we were obliged to catch up with Henry and Gemma when TK Maxx invited us to London’s Zetter hotel last week where, alongside a few other bloggers, we quizzed the pair on all things Frock Me and fashion. We’ve seen three shows so far, can you tell us what we can expect from the rest of the series? HH: There’s a show about romance, there’s a show about Americana, there’s a show about festivals; so there’s those theme-shows, and you can expect to see Sophie Ellis-Bextor, you can expect to see Gabriella Cilmi, we’ve had the Future Heads, Marina and the Diamonds, Paloma Faith – she was good, and everyone did live too. And then there’s some very ridiculous sketches… GC: We’ve got prints in Bristol [just aired] which was fun, I actually put a couple up against each other for the Frock Off, and the girl really looks like Alexa so that was good. And then we’ve got in Birmingham Americana – we ended up with about 200 people surrounding us in the middle of town for the final section, so we were kind of […]

Samuel L. Jackson in Armani

King of Cool Samuel L. Jackson has been showcasing his sartorial style once again as he attended the US premier of Iron Man last week. Along with his signature round glasses and cap combo he was decked head to toe in Giorgio Armani, sporting a casual ensemble of relaxed tailoring. Mixing a Nehru style jacket with classic Armani jeans, Samuel opts for a more casual look than we’re used to on the red carpet – proving that he doesn’t need to be suited and booted to work that impeccable A-list style. The outfit is set off with a flash of cobalt blue in the form of his shagreen print tennis shoes – who said trainers were a no-go for premier-party footwear? For a similar look you can pair this military feel linen jacket from Cold Method at My-wardrobe with blue jeans and a cool pair of your favourite trainers. As for Samuel L. Jackson’s effortless sense of style, well that’s just something you’ll have to figure out how to get yourself.

Five minutes with Elle’s Executive Fashion Editor, Stacey Duguid

Stacey Duguid has led a life most girls would die for. After stints at Paul Smith, Giorgio Armani and Prada, Stacey was asked by Elle’s editor Lorraine Candy to join her favourite magazine, and now proudly takes her place as Executive Fashion Editor at Elle. Having met , and worked with , some of the most prestigious people in fashion, she doesn’t miss one trendy trick. In between jetting to and fro from fashion weeks, blogging for ASOS.com and writing her new book, Stacey found a few minutes to talk to us about her fashion life. What made you embark on a career in fashion, and how did you get to where you are today? I had a rather unsuccessful stint at Art school in Manchester where I was studying for a Fine Art degree, it was the early 90’s and the legendary nightclub the Hacienda was in full swing and I chose clubbing over art.  I moved to London a year later not knowing a single soul.  I took a job at Harvey Nichols on the shop floor and started interning for a PR agency who handled fashion label Red Or Dead every Friday for free. It was whilst working at the PR agency I attended my first ever fashion show, I was so young but remember it like it was yesterday; the fashion fire was well and truly ignited!  I went from emptying bins and sorting out post to working on the Red or Dead account pretty quickly and was able to give up working at Harvey Nichols.  My time on the shop floor was well spent though; I met so many people who are now all in very senior fashion jobs around the globe namely Chloe, Calvin Klein and InStyle. Interestingly during this time I applied to […]
