If you’ve been toning your abs in the gym a’ la Miley Cyrus but aren’t quite ready to adopt her way of dressing just yet (it essentially involves a lot of skin and not much else… not actually “dressing” at all, come to think of it) then you can do so in a more subtle way: a cut out dress! This also applies to you if you have a fab tan from your hols and you want some of your skin to poke through your clothes and shoes in a tasteful and on-trend way too. And even if you don’t want to flash the flesh and literally just want to get on board with the trend for the heck of it, then we have items for that too: try a cut out belt or cuff… dramatic, versatile and a great value for money; you’ll be wearing them season after season! Here are a few cut out pieces that we’re totally loving right now: Sequin cut out dress, £49, Rare available at Topshop Plum cut out vest, £30, available at Miss Selfridge Tan cut out top, £7, Izabel London available at House of Fraser Pleat bodice cut out dress, £20, available at Miss Selfridge Purple swimsuit, £420, Yves Saint Laurent available at Harrods Laser cut suede sandals, £36, Dune available at House of Fraser Gold cut out cuff, £3, available at Miss Selfridge Tan waist belt, £55, Ted Baker available at House of Fraser

Read MoreSpotlight on: Simone Rocha
As London Fashion Week is fast approaching (where has the time gone?!) we thought we’d put this week’s designer spotlight on someone who made one heck of an impression last season… and that person is Dublin-born Simone Rocha. She may have inherited her eye for fashion and detail from her designer father John Rocha, but Simone definitely got to where she is today on her own merits. Her work is instantly recognised as being a more modern extension of her father’s work, with the use of PVC, lace and metallics in her latest collection proving that she is taking a more contemporary and somewhat masculine route. The 2010 Central Saint Martins graduate only made her London Fashion Week debut when she showed her Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter 2011 collections with Fashion East, but has fast become one of the designers we are looking forward to the most this season. And let’s not forget her gorgeous capsule collection for Topshop that launched in September last year, which proves that she is a versatile designer who is just as capable of catering to the high street too. It’s not just us who love Simone Rocha – the celebs can’t seem to get enough of her either, as Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Rita Ora and Lily Cole are just some of her famous fans that have been spotted in her designs. Keep your eyes peeled for her new-season collection; we predict great things!

While watching Disney’s Aladdin last night (yep, that totally happened!) we got a little bit inspired by the Arabic-themed way of dressing and wondered how we could incorporate it into our wardrobes. We’ve selected a few of our fave Arabian Nights inspired pieces just in case you too feel inclined to channel Princess Jasmine on your next night out on the town. Think jewels, embellishment, bold and rich colours, tassels, and of course a splash of that turquoise hue that makes up Princess Jasmine’s signature outfit. Why don’t our own royals dress like that, eh? We digress. Here’s what we found: Metallic scallop top, £38, available at Lipsy Fuchsia chunky bangle, £2, available at New Look Turquoise stone cocktail ring, £12, Jane Norman available at House of Fraser Purple tassel ended scarf, £6, available at Yours Clothing Red jewel neck dress, £22, Little Mistress available at USC Sequin clutch, £80, French Connection available at John Lewis Embellished cami top, £42, available at Topshop Marrakesh Madonna ring, £982, available at Boticca Turquoise strappy sandals, £70, Carvela available at ASOS [Image]
Read More6 perfect, pretty high street playsuits!
The playsuit, in our opinion, is the best of both worlds. It allows you to expose your newly bronzed legs (it doesn’t matter whether your tan is false or real) and not worry about a gust of wind exposing your underwear. No embarrassing moments whatsoever! They also do exactly what they say on the tin: they’re playful! When has anyone not felt pretty, girly, fun, and flirty in a playsuit? Never. That’s when! Best of all, they’re just as good for your holiday in 30-plus degrees of sunshine as they are back home in Blighty. No seriously, hear us out. Pair a playsuit with some plain tights (or patterned if it’s a plainer playsuit… try saying that really fast after a cocktail or two!) and a fun cardi for a perfect sun to chill transition. And best of all, you can get all six of our playsuits from the high street. No breaking the bank/guilt necessary! 1. Black and white playsuit, £40, Little Mistress available at Bank 2. Sequin playsuit, £74, Rare available at Topshop 3. Orange peplum detail playsuit, £42, available at Miss Selfridge 4. Frill strappy playsuit, £42, available at Miss Selfridge 5. Read MoreThree ways to wear… the college sweater
As a lot of you are graduating this summer, we thought we’d continue to embrace the university/college theme we introduced yesterday. We love the classic college sweater, but even if you don’t have one from an actual place of further education, you can totally fake it. There’s quite a few currently on sale, but this Alana Sweater from Abercrombie and Fitch gets our vote for today. It comes in a few different colours, but we went for the grey as we thought it was quite diverse and the styling opportunities were virtually endless. You can go quite preppy with the classic college sweater, or you can go slightly edgier if that’s more your thing. Carry it around to keep out the chill on a summer’s day or work it into your outfit from the start… you’ll definitely get a lot of use out of it. Here are just three ways to wear it… Green satin shorts, £70, Alice + Olivia available at The Outnet; Sleeveless polo shirt, £168, Stella McCartney available at The Outnet; Nude cork wedges, £24.99, available at New Look Stripe skater dress, £24.99, Quiz available at House of Fraser; Gold and wood bangles, £12, Tyler available at Aftershock; Brown and gold sandals, £45, Esprit available at Zalando Scallop crop top, £28, available at Topshop; Black stud wedges, £45, available at Dorothy Perkins; Wet look leggings, £18, available at Topshop
Read More6 monochrome Graduation-ready dresses
This post is dedicated to all you clever clogs’ who will be graduating later this summer. We know that Graduation can be a bit daunting (we’ve been there, done it and got the T-shirt diploma) and apart from hoping you don’t trip on stage while accepting your certificate, we know that choosing an outfit to wear is at the top of the list of concerns. Therefore, we’ve decided to make it easy for you with 6 failsafe, can’t-go-wrong monochrome(ish) dresses. We think it’s probably best to keep your colour palette relatively simple to start off with, just in case you haven’t seen your gown and you clash with it. Buttons are quite handy for keeping the dreaded gown on, and collars are a fab way of instantly adding the smart factor to your gorgeous dress, although neither is essential. Congrats and good luck to everyone who will be graduating these next few months! 1. Black/white collar dress, £26, available at Dorothy Perkins 2. Black embellished collar dress, £42, available at Dorothy Perkins 3. Cream Marina dress, £56, Goldie available at Topshop 4. Cream and navy lace dress, £24, Pussycat available at House of Fraser 5. Even if you’re not a huge advocate of leggings, we have a feeling that you may just change your mind once you take a peek at our selection of the funkiest and snazziest beauties currently around. Some people just think “Zumba”, “equestrian” and “maternity” when they look at leggings, which is then closely followed by a mild shudder, but we promise you, there are some fashionable leggings out there too – our selection above more than proves it! We would never throw away our pair of trusty black leggings (when paired with the right posterior-covering sparkly top on a night out, they prove quite fashionable) but we sometimes get bored of them too. This is why we’ve sought after ten shiny, sparkly, printed and generally fabulous pairs to try and tempt even the most legging-phobic of you. 1. Read MoreRate or Slate: Demi Lovato, Mischa Barton and Britney Spears
This week’s Rate or Slate is somewhat ironic if you think about what two of the girls under our style microscope are actually up to right now. First, we have Demi Lovato, who as a new X Factor USA mentor will be used to passing judgment on others by now, but the roles are reversed for today. She wore a bright orange Topshop dress and leather jacket, which she teamed with some sky-high boots and a rather interesting hairdo. Next up is Mischa Barton (but she’ll always be Marissa Cooper to us), who turned up to an Aston Martin event in a white Temperley London gown teamed with some bulky tan coloured shoes. Finally, we have Miss Britney Spears, who decided to wear yet another Herve Leger dress to the X Factor USA auditions. What did everyone make of their looks, you ask? Let’s find out: Amy of Wolf Whistle says: Demi: ‘I can’t think of anything vitriolic or especially gushing to say about Demi here. She’s wearing Topshop, the coral looks nice against her gorgeous skin, I like her cool retro hair. It’s a bit girl-next-door-in-expensive-shoes but she looks genuinely great. Well played, Demi, you cutie/how boring for me.’ Mischa: ‘Oh, Mischa Barton. It’s true that I derive great joy out of disliking you but seriously: you are SO ANNOYING in the most limp way ever. Mischa is like the human equivalent of a dying flower. Today she’s a wilting lily, jilted at the altar because she was wearing shoes the colour of hotdog relish. Run, groom, run!’ Britney: ‘I’m pretty sure that Britney Spears has posed for photos before so I’m not sure why she’s standing like her mum is taking a proud snap before her first day of school. I wore a school uniform and Britney is […]

After peeking the Yayoi Kusama for Louis Vuitton collection (and even those Children in Need T-shirts some of our fave designers are creating) we are positively obsessed with all things polka dot right now. Therefore picking a theme to base our Midweek Moodboard on this Wednesday has never been easier. If you think spots are just those pesky things you get on your face when you’re a teenager, then hopefully we can help you change your mind. Minnie Mouse was onto something when she donned that red and white polka dot dress. A fashion icon back then and to this very day; polka dots have never been far from the catwalks of the world and we predict there’ll always be a place for them both on the runway and in our wardrobes. This is most definitely not cheating, and the “must stop blogging about every single item Blake Lively is wearing on her Savages promo tour” goal we set ourselves isn’t proving difficult at all, honest. Shifty eyes… Ok, we admit that we’ve been besotted with Blake Lively’s wardrobe recently, but one look we didn’t manage to rant and rave about which we feel deserves extra attention was her hot pink Lanvin one! We’ve always regarded Blake as a bit of a Barbie, with her blonde locks, legs that go on for decades and very ample, generous chest. So, seeing her in a hot pink Barbie ready-ensemble was the icing on the cake. We want some Blake/Barbie in our lives too, so we’ve selected some pieces that should help us get one step closer to our plastic fantastic childhood best friend. Enough with the Cheryl Cole love – time to give some of the other Girls Aloud members some attention, we think. We know what you’re thinking, but we can confirm that the sun you see lurking in the background was indeed in London last week! Anyway, we applaud Sarah’s footwear choice; not only are her creepers something different to the classic wedge, but they’re totally Karl Lagerfeld approved, as the latest Chanel Resort collection was full of them. Take a look for yourself if you don’t believe us. So, next time the sun comes out to play, why don’t you channel Sarah Harding with this cute, playful but slightly alternative look? If upon reading the title you have a slightly worried expression of your face, and visions of a lazy, jogging bottoms and stretched t-shirt clad, potato couch version of the opposite gender in your mind, mentally refresh, please. We’re not talking comfort menswear; we’re talking style-laced, androgynously beautiful pieces with enough of a feminine spin to warrant being worn without being accused of stealing your boyfriend’s clothes! Forget ‘It’ shoes and bags, this season it’s all about the new ‘It’ top. The smock top is a brilliantly stylish investment, because its versatility means it can be dressed up or down. In line with this season’s relaxed bohemian vibe with a city slick edge, we love the Fifi Fleur smock top from high street fashion favourite, French Connection. A touch on Seventies glamour, the Fifi Fleur smock top in white is our top pick for summer (natch), and we absolutely love the airy crepe fabric, the scattered embroidered floral pattern and the fact that we can get two wears out of one top! A laid back top need not translate as day off gear, however. Throw in a pair of hot-right-now printed trousers and look-at-me espadrilles, and the Fifi Fleur smock top can be smart enough to sport to the office. Or, if you want to stay true to the nonchalance the smock top was made to exude, then slip into some chino shorts and flat sandals for a breezy take on summer strolling in the city. However you choose to wear it, make sure for summer you add a smock top to your sunny weather wardrobe – it’ll prove to be as wear-effective as it looks hot, we promise! For this week’s Rate or Slate, the A-list style choices have left us, well, in a bit of a fashion pickle and only reinforced our indecisiveness! 18-year-old Dakota Fanning opted for what appears to be a beyond-her-years Prada gown at the 2012 White House Correspondents’ Dinner, while Ginnifer Goodwin who also attended– and known for her unconventional take on fashion in the spotlight – went for a H&M Conscious Collection dress, flying the flag high for the humble high street, similarly to when she opted for Topshop at last year’s Met Gala. Jennifer Lopez, on the other hand, appeared in a rather interesting Lanvin number as she announced her mega 20-city tour, earlier this week. Sporting a tri-coloured stretch silk dress accessorised in the most unusual way – with a crystal snake motif wrapped around her neck! We’re not too ssssurrreee (ahem) what we think! Thought provoking fashion, much? It’s over to our discerning Style Jury to decide whether they approve… Fashion News Ed says: Dakota Fanning: ‘Dakota was one of my personal best dressed guests at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner… always demure, elegant, sophisticated etc, etc. She does have the tendency to dress older than her years, but I don’t think she should start dressing like a teenager now, especially since she’s almost 20 and has found her “look”. Dakota and Prada is a match made in heaven!’ Jennifer Lopez: ‘J-Lo loves her Lanvin, doesn’t she? I personally love this look, but can see how it might not be to everyone’s tastes as it’s a bit fussy. The silhouette is perfect for Jen’s curves, and I’m glad she wore her hair up so as not to interfere with the intricate detailing. Another style win for Jenny from the Block in my opinion.’ Ginnifer Goodwin: ‘I applaud Ginnifer for wearing this […]
