Scarlett Johansson in Mango

Lately, it seems the edgy bob has taken over Hollywood and proclaimed itself as the latest celebrity craze. For many, it’s a haircut that can ruin a beautiful face, but for some it’s the perfect tool to enhance your most enviable attributes -and for Scarlett Johansson, the dreaded chop has certainly paid off. But enough about her new hair, we’re more interested in that fabulous Mango LBD. The actress wore the £79 bargain to the third El Boton Mango Fashion Awards in Barcelona on Wednesday, complete with black strappy sandals and a statement gold seahorse necklace, and dressed head to toe in black, Scarlett even finished off her new-found gothic look with a touch of black lacquer on her fingernails. Though many have criticised her new-found hairdo, here at MFL we applaud the star for experimenting with her style. After all, long flowing locks do get a little tiresome after a while.

Get the look: Megan Fox in Armani

Megan Fox was a head turner at Milan Fashion Week in September, and at Giorgio Armani’s spring/summer 2011 show, her Armani ensemble screamed elegant simplicity whilst still remaining sexy – a look Megan always seems to pull off. The Armani jacket is the focal point of the outfit; we love its strong shoulders and sharp cut which highlights Megan’s best features. Her minimal accessories make her look effortlessly chic, but her statement facet ring and clutch bag keep the glamour in her outfit – and we couldn’t wait to recreate it. See our top picks for how to get Megan’s look… Etoile Isabel Marant Wool Herringbone Blazer, £325, Net-A-Porter All eyes are immediately drawn to Megan’s jacket; it’s the statement piece of the outfit. This is further emphasised by the choice of a black dress layered underneath so the jacket can create contrast – and this Etoile Isabel Marant wool herringbone blazer fits the bill perfectly. Not only is it almost an exact match to the light grey of Armani’s piece but it also has long sleeves and one button to cinch your waist for Megan-like curves. TFNC Sash Bandeau Dress, £35, ASOS This dress is a classic LBD which can be worn over and over again. The layered pleat design is also an ideal match to Megan’s dress, and whilst we can’t see if hers is strapless, the sweetheart neckline bears a strong similarity to the heart shaped cut out detail on Ms. Fox’s. Miss KG Eden Concealed Platform Heeled Court Shoes, £65, ASOS Not only are these KG courts the same shade as Megan’s, they also share the same soft suede finish. The classic court and rounded toe design is super-sleek, while the concealed platform is guaranteed to save your feet at the end of a girl’s night […]

Get the look: Halle Berry in Roberto Cavalli

Halle Berry turned up at the Swarovski Elements 22 Ways to Say Black charity auction in New York last week looking super-sexy and chic. The Roberto Cavalli dress takes the best from a classic LBD and mixes it up with a contemporary cut, proving perfect for Halle’s hourglass figure. We love how she’s kept her accessories and make-up simple yet sophisticated, adding sparkle without drawing attention away from the detail on the dress – and her chain-strapped bag is a great choice for the metallic tones in her outfit. If you love Halle’s look as much as us, take a look below at how to recreate it for yourselves… Tribal Ladder Neck Bodycon dress, £55, ASOS We love this ASOS Tribal Bodycon dress which hugs the body in all the right places, as the Roberto Cavalli dress does. The thread and ladder detailing around the neckline also bears similarities to the slit patterns on the Cavalli piece, and all for a tiny fraction of the celeb price tag. Stella McCartney Falabella chain-trimmed bag, £785, Net-a-Porter Although slightly bigger than Halle’s evening choice, this bag uses the same chain trim and handle, and will also allow you to mix and match with more than one outfit – its extra space means you won’t need to substitute any glamour for a daytrip and can be carried onto an evening on the town. Maximum effect but minimum effort. Karen Millen Studded Sandals, £165, Selfridges Every girl needs the perfect pair of strappy sandals in her wardrobe, and these Karen Millen shoes are the ideal match for our chosen outfit this week. The added studs on the sandal effortlessly ooze a modern edge but also remain sophisticated and sexy – a great substitute for Halle’s look. Just add smoky eyes and diamonds…

Lunchtime buy: Jaeger Velvet dress

We know, another little black dress – but take a closer look. This Jaeger velvet column dress, part of the latest drop from its Boutique range, has a lovely little twist in its construction. The draped effect leading from the shoulder will flatter your entire silhouette as it moves down (a clever touch from one of Britain’s best-loved brands) and, never one to scrimp on quality and cut, Jaeger’s LBD has got both of those nailed, too – we can almost feel the soft, luxurious fabric through our screens. A week in Rupert Sanderson: the Liquid vs the Dapper

Yesterday was the turn of the Tawny and the Nuance, but today we’ve been wearing something more red carpet-ready – ladies, its the run of the platforms. Prepare for the Liquid vs the Dapper. Two platforms, both with a slick sky-high stiletto, both in tonal shades of rose and burgandy – but one’s a peep-toe sling-back with a sculpted shape; one’s a contemporary rework of a classic mary jane court. Let’s see how they rank… The Liquid I’m not entirely sure where to start on this one to be honest because I love every darn detail the Liquid has to offer. A sleek platformed stiletto with an eye-watering heel, this shoe is unashamedly feminine with its subdued autumn rose shades in the softest suede. Its dainty sling-back strap feels delicate, but nothing will beat the Liquid’s subtly sexy scalloped edge for intricate detail. To match my current obsession with leather, I can’t tell you how excited I am picturing the luxe Liquids with an LLBD – an acronym I’ve just coined for little leather black dress. The Dapper A classic mary jane platform with a slick stiletto heel and brogue detailing to boot, the Dapper sure lives up to its name. In a soft burgundy suede, I love their cool contemporary twists – from the statement gold buckle that sits across the front of your foot to the brogue-like patterning and the cut-out detail at the outer edges to add a slight peek of skin. The Dapper may be classic, but with their autumn shade and want-to-touch texture, they feel so right for the new season teamed with staple separates, especially camel. The result: It’s a cop out to say it’s a draw, right? Trouble is, I just can’t decide who wins this footwear face-off. Do I go with the […]

Lunchtime buy: Halston jersey open-back gown

Yes. We’re in love with all things Halston. Fresh off the back of Sex and the City 2, we’ve been scouting out the very best pieces from 70s-inspired fashion house Halston, and its equally glamourous diffusion line, Halston Heritage. Having watched on enviously as Carrie Bradshaw totters around Manhattan and Abu Dhabi in her Halston Heritage designs, we logged on to to see if we could find any of Marios Schwab’s premium-line Halston pieces at a more credit-card friendly price. Sure enough, we struck gold with this open-back jersey LBD from The Outnet. That’s long black dress, don’t ya know! This simple yet striking number is less SJP and more Cynthia Nixon, judging by the red-headed beauty’s recent red carpet choices. Safe but sexy, this is an absolute classic. £2,295 £688.50 from The Outnet.

Doutzen Kroes in Rachel Roy

Enviably gorgeous model Doutzen Kroes makes us wonder why we’d ever opt for a LBD again when a LGD (little green dress) can look this good. Ok, so we may not have her Victoria’s Secret body, but wearing this piece from top stylist Rachel Roy’s clothing line Doutzen proves that a burst of colour is the smart option when it comes to achieving the wow factor. With clever cut-out detailing at the waist, this otherwise classic dress is given a contemporary twist, as well as creating an exaggerated hourglass figure. The bold jade green colour makes a real statement and makes the most of the trend for jewel coloured brights. Doutzen keeps the look simple by pairing the dress with killer heels, in this season’s most wearable shade – nude. If you want to go for a similar look, we’ve found this jade green fitted shift dress from Oasis for £75. The zig-zag detailing at the waist creates a panel that elongates your body so you won’t need to worry about that Victoria’s Secret figure after all. Buy it here now.

Lunchtime buy: Luella black corset dress

If – like us -you’re still raging, having not even been able to get onto the site for The Outnet’s first birthday £1 sale this morning, then you’ll fill cheated, dissatisfied and in need of a little fashion splurge. Despite our annoyance with the servers, the multitude of other style-hungry shoppers, or whatever else might be to blame for our lack of sale joy, we really can’t deny that The Outnet still has a load of fantastic deals on offer. It looks likely that there will soon come a time when Luella goods will no longer be around and we’re hoping to snap up as many as we can until that time comes. This corset dress is the perfect LBD for spring 2010 eveningwear as it is not only chic and sophisticated, but nods to the underwear as outerwear trend whilst still capturing that girly, Luella style with it’s sweetheart neckline and tulle trim. £587 £234.80 from The Outnet.

Fight Cervical Cancer in Style

Last night, some of the biggest names in fashion and music joined hands to hold a star-studded extravaganza for Fight Cervical Cancer in Style, a national campaign which helps to raise awareness about the disease and teach women how to reduce their risk. In case you don’t already know, this week is European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, and getting London’s ball rolling is PM’s wife Sarah Brown, whose charity Wellbeing of Women, alongside Jo’s Trust, is backing the campaign. We popped down to Camden’s Koko nightclub to take a peek at the pop-performances on offer and feast our eyes on some fabulous fashion from London-cool label PPQ, who put on a colourful catwalk comprising their favourite looks for spring. So as models strutted their stuff in this season’s hottest looks and some of Britain’s biggest chart-toppers belted out their hottest hits, our focus turned to what they were wearing , we’re fighting in style, after all. From the ever-quirky Paloma Faith who wore a glittery red ‘P’ hat with matching heart balloons tied to her wrist, to Pixie Lott in a classic LBD, La Roux in a matching top and bottom 80s-inspired ensemble by Basso and Brooke, and the Sugababes who barely wore a thing, their styles were worlds apart. But one thing linked them together: these pop princesses, alongside our hosts for the evening Lauren Laverne and Miquita Oliver, are raising awareness of cervical cancer and helping to educate young women about the disease, which kills three women everyday in the UK alone. “We’re delighted with the amount of celebrity support that has been forthcoming for this important campaign, Robert Music, Director of Jo’s Trust, says. “Cervical cancer can be a devastating disease and may not have any symptoms until it is quite advanced, so it’s essential that girls […]

SJP recreates Diana Vreeland for Harper’s Bazaar

Sarah Jessica Parker is a true woman’s woman. Men don’t get her, women can’t be without her. And in the March issue of Harper’s Bazaar she chats about Vreeland, Gossip Girl and of course Carrie Bradshaw. In a shoot inspired by the late, great editor of Harper’s Bazaar Diana Vreeland, SJP keeps true to her signature style of sleek with a hint of quirky. Shot by Peter Lindbergh, we see SJP in a range of DV poses, wearing at one point an LBD but certainly with no VPL. Ok, enough with the acronyms. Wearing gorgeous pieces from the likes of Salvatore Ferragamo and Yves Saint Laurent, Sarah-Jessica looks every inch the glamorous editor. It is a surprising shoot when compared with the cover, the shoot has a moody flamboyance whereas the cover is eye-catching with springtime pinks. The interview reminds us why we love Sarah-Jessica so much, her positivity and fabulous outlook shines through all of her comments. When asked about how Carrie Bradshaw would handle the recession, she replied: “She would probably end up in a hospital. Perhaps she would go back to her ’80s stuff and start bringing it out again.” Is anyone else thinking that there might be another series in that? ‘Carrie Faces The Crunch’ wouldn’t you just love to see her customizing her Manolo’s and rooting for vintage Chanel? But maybe we should just let SJP rest from the limelight of her alter ego for a while. In response to whether the Sex And The City bus tours affect her everyday life she said: “Ah, yes, I run into it. There are times when it’s totally terrific, and there are times when I’m like, Oh, God, I’d better run in the other direction. Especially when I’m with my son.” Although, probably my favorite part of […]

Earth Day: Eco-Chic Fashion

Given that Earth Day was yesterday, we figured it would be appropriate to browse some “green products. Even though more and more brands are popping up with organic and non-toxic lines, it’s safe to say that natural fabrics haven’t quite yet hit the mainstream and aren’t universally available. But, if you actually take the time to look online for alternatives to your otherwise synthetic-filled closet, you’ll find that there’s some great options that are stylish and more importantly, eco-friendly.

The same is true for self-help books; with as many shapes and sizes that women come in, there are a million times as many personalities and situations that are targeted by self-help books, making it even trickier to find the right “fit for your personal situation. That said, Rachel Weingarten, author of Career and Corporate Cool, has done an admirable job of writing a book that everyone can stand to learn from. Galliano’s tribute

According to Grazia magazine, Galliano, the genius that he is, has re-worked his famous saddle bag for Dior 12 times over, in honour of his 10th anniversary at the house. Each of the 12 different styles represents the 12 countries (China, Argentina, USA, Mexico, England, Russia, Spain, Morocco, Egypt, France, India and Japan) that have provided him with inspiration during his time with Dior. Granted they are slightly gaudy, and are so detailed that you’d probably only get away with pairing it with perhaps an LBD as each one demands its own spotlight. However Galliano really has managed to capture an essence of each country within this petite bag. The scans aren’t great, and Grazia doesn’t show the whole collection but from the sneaky peek they’ve given us, I’d have to say , at the risk of sounding biased , the English version (below), is stunning and probably the most wearable. I couldn’t afford it when it first made its presence known and I still can’t afford it now, but if I could, I would definitely invest in this collector’s item. Fast Fashion: McFashion!

“We are consumers of McFashion. Fashion has begun to resemble fast food: fast, disposable, easy, unintimidating, entertaining and homogenous. Just as McDonald’s has taken over the globe, dishing out the uniformity and consistency of their burgers and fries, mass-market clothing retailers have succeeded in spreading a similar message: predictability in fashion.” Is Fashion resembling fast food??? I completely agree with the statement that high street fashion is becoming like fast food but for me like McDonalds it’s addictive. We are now able to purchase seasonal trends at less than 1/2 the price. Yes like the Big Mac you can get the same top in H&M in most countries. I once bought a jumper in Amsterdam from H&M, thinking it would’nt be in London but to my horror it was and I felt completely un-original. But at the end of the day when you go to McDonalds and not a Michelin Star Restaurant you know what to expect. I went to H&M, I wasn’t buying couture. There are certain essentials you have to pay for such as a good pair of boots, a winter coat and a LBD but for everything else there is McFashion.
