Kate Beckinsale is pastel pretty for Gwen Stefani’s Bel Air baby shower

We may be witnessing a lot of autumn/winter fashion thanks to all the new season collections making their way down the New York Fashion Week runway, but Kate Beckinsale’s latest look just screamed “summer” to us! And we couldn’t be more thankful to Kate for reminding us that the sun does actually exist… even though we’re probably a long way away from seeing it for ourselves. The actress was rocking the prettiest pastel blue hues as she attended her good pal Gwen Stefani’s baby shower in sunny California at the Hotel Bel-Air (we’re not jealous… honest!). She wore some print-tastic three-quarter length Parker trousers, which she accessorised with a plain white tee by Charles Henry and a to-die-for turquoiseRebecca Minkoff blazer. She finished her look off with some silver Brian Atwood ‘Besame’ pumps, am Edie Parker clutch, and celeb-essential shades. Hurry up, summer, we want to channel Kate Beckinsale!

Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale are modern-day Princesses in Elie Saab and Naeem Khan

If Cinderella’s fairy godmother was to whip up a dream gown in 2012, we bet it wouldn’t be hugely dissimilar to the dresses Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale were wearing at the Total Recall premiere in Berlin last night. Both ladies, who have dazzled us on their Total Recall promo tour from the get go, have really upped the ante this time around, and walked the red carpet in two ultra-stunning dresses. Jessica went for a sparkly Elie Saab creation with a very daring, plunging back, which she teamed with a very apt ballerina-style bun. We think the fringe made it a tad more modern and alternative, which is Jess’s style all over. Perfect! Kate Beckinsale looked just as ravishing, as she hit the red carpet in a plunging cream-coloured dress fresh from the Naeem Khan autumn/winter 2012 collection. We utterly adore her intricate low Hollywood bun too – she couldn’t have chosen a more fitting hairstyle for the outfit. Nice work ladies, you both looked flawless! [poll id=”361″]

Kate Beckinsale wears reptile Armani Privé to Total Recall premiere

Yesterday we gushed about her Total Recall co-star Jessica Biel, but today it’s all about the beauty that is Kate Beckinsale! The actress also made a statement at the LA premiere, as she wore a full-length reptile gown from the Armani Privé spring/summer 2012 collection. We didn’t expect this kind of dramatic look from Ms Beckinsale, as she usually goes for slightly more feminine and somewhat conventional pieces – and rocks them, may we add – but her sartorial risk definitely paid off! Such drama! Akin to her namesake Kate Middleton, Kate Beckinsale really does have some stunning brunette locks which always look divine when they’re left flowing rather freely on her shoulders. However, we think this slightly dishevelled up-do was the best choice this time around, as it complements the busy nature of the dress perfectly. Another style triumph – Jessica and Kate really have been smashing it on their Total Recall promotional tour!

STYLE JURY: Rate or Slate Kelly Osbourne in Georges Hobeika, Kate Beckinsale in Atelier Versace and Cameron Diaz in Gucci

The biggest night in Hollywood, Oscar night on Sunday, brought with it several dream (and disaster) dresses. We fell in love some of the red carpet and after-party looks from the night, but again we find ourselves on the fence with this week’s Rate or Slate options. First up is Kelly Osbourne in a Georges Hobeika gown at Elton John’s post-Oscars bash, closely followed by Kate Beckinsale in a sequinned Atelier Versace number at the Vanity Fair Oscars After-Party and Cameron Diaz in Gucci on the Oscar red carpet. We’re teetering on yay or nay territory again, and thanking our lucky fashion stars that the watchful eye of Style Jury has come to the rescue. Oscar night is a HUGE deal and so should the dresses worn by the A-Listers on the night be. It’s over to our Style Jury… My Fashion Life News Ed says: Kelly Osbourne: ‘Although I preferred Kelly’s black Badgley Mischka gown, this was the perfect choice for the after party as she looked more relaxed in it – and good job on accentuating her evaporating waist with the belt! There’s always going to be added pressure on Kelly now that she’s part of Fashion Police, but she got it right on Oscars night, so she can breathe a sigh of relief.’ Kate Beckinsale: ‘After falling in love with her hot pink Diane von Furstenberg jumpsuit at the 2012 Film Independent Spirit Awards, I was a little disappointed with this Oscar look. The dress itself wasn’t the problem, I just expected more from such a stylish dresser on the most important red carpet day of the year. Her hair and make-up, as always, were flawless though.’ Cameron Diaz: ‘The colour was a bit safe, but the fancy detailing on the dress more than made up for it. […]

Kate Beckinsale’s easy airport chic

Victoria Beckham once said she uses the airport as her own runway and it seems BFF Kate Beckinsale agrees. Arriving at Vancouver International Airport to begin filming Underworld IV earlier this week, the British actress looked effortlessly polished in a white mac, jeans and oversized sunglasses. Stepping off an airplane with perfectly coiffed hair and glowing skin is no easy feat, but we can definitely all learn something from Ms Beckinsale’s outfit. A mac is an easy, fail-safe cover up that can make the dullest of outfits look chic – she could have an old holey jumper under there, who knows? – whilst the dark sunglasses shield tired aeroplane eyes. She managed to match her oversized tote to her accessories and to the buttons on her coat, pulling it all together without looking twee. We’ll give it a go next time but somehow we still don’t think we’ll arrive at the airport looking as pretty as Kate does. [poll id=”53″]

Kate Beckinsale in Balmain

It’s rather apt that Kate Beckinsale was attending the premier of ‘Biutiful’ as she wore this dress at Cannes this week, because she does indeed look b-e-a-utiful in this Balmain stunner. Taken from the Balmain AW10 collection, the thigh-high split and navel revealing plunge neckline have been tamed down a little to reveal a little less skin than the catwalk version – and doesn’t it look great. Shimmering in black with a metallic studded belt Kate shows us a more edgy side than we’re used to and it’s a look that she really pulls off. Her relaxed up-do brings a laid-back sophistication to the ensemble and the thigh-high split adds a dash of sexiness to an otherwise classic look. If we’ve got any criticism at all it would be that her pumps look a little clunky to be paired with the sleekness of the floor length dress. But if that’s the only thing we’re not convinced on then Kate doesn’t have too much to worry about, and we still think she had the best look of the night. Yet more proof that Balmain maketh the woman…

Stacking Rings: In or Out?

From sweet pink wedding gowns to unique collections of impeccable antique and contemporary stacked rings, this is the year when everything goes. As long as the look captures your essence and it doesn’t overwhelm the rest of your style, why not? The following four suggestions offer some exciting new ways to stack your rings. Engagement Rings and Diamonds: During the past few years, women around the world have been stacking engagement rings, like those found at Michael Hill Jewellers. Oval solitaires, white gold, and heirloom bands… the possibilities are as diverse and lovely as the celebrities. Kate Beckinsale, Eva Longoria, Jennifer Garner, Eva Longoria Parker, and Mariah Carey are just a few of the great trend setters who have added their personal flair to this fashionable trend. One of the many advantages of stacking engagement, wedding, and other bands is that the look can be dressed up or down, depending on the event; an antique gem with sentimental value can easily be added into the mix! Mix and Match: Mixing and matching adds a new aspect to the art of stacking rings. It’s also an element that will keep the style fresh for years to come! Once again, it’s all about your individual fashion sense, and finding a combination that you will enjoy. While diamond, precious, and semi-precious gems add volume and excitement, metal combinations are eclectic and interesting. Simply by adding or subtracting a favorite band, a diamond, topaz, sapphire, and/or rose gold you can add dimension to your look that will turn heads. Delicate rings, chunky bands, disks worn on the knuckles can be as intense or refined as you desire. Remember, ‘everything goes’ as long as you mix and match to suit your mood! Retro Style: This year we have made a remarkable journey back to the […]

The Golden Globes 2014: The best dressed!

Golden Globes time! Yep, it was the 71st annual Golden Globe Award ceremony in Beverly Hills yesterday, and the red carpet was once again full of the biggest and best-dressed names in Hollywood. TV and films stars alike came together for one of the biggest nights on the awards season calendar, and to say they pulled out all the sartorial stops would be a bit of an understatement, as we don’t think our list of best-dressed celebs has ever been this big! Lupita Nyong’o definitely stole the show for us with her effortlessly elegant Ralph Lauren caped look (we got flashbacks to Gwyneth Paltrow’s Tom Ford cape dress at the Oscars a few years ago) while Olivia Wilde and Camila Alves also made our jaws drop with their glittering gowns courtesy of Gucci Première and Dolce and Gabbana respectively. Unsurprisingly, Sofia Vergara went for the wow factor in a large Zac Posen dress, while Jennifer Lawrence went for a Dior dress, as was expected. Take a look at the full list of our best-dressed ladies below and let us know who took your breath away! Lupita Nyong’o in Ralph Lauren Olivia Wilde in Gucci Première Cate Blanchett in Armani Privé Sofia Vergara in Zac Posen Taylor Swift in Carolina Herrera Camila Alves in Dolce and Gabbana Kate Beckinsale in Zuhair Murad Couture Sandra Bullock in Prabal Gurung Margot Robbie in Gucci Emma Watson in Dior Couture Mila Kunis in Gucci Première Amy Adams in Valentino Couture Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Uma Thurman in Atelier Versace Kerry Washington in Balenciaga Reese Witherspoon in Calvin Klein Emma Roberts in Lanvin Naomi Watts in Tom Ford Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta Allison Williams in Alexander McQueen

The Vanity Fair and Elton John Oscars after parties: The best dressed!

So we’ve pretty much exhausted the coverage from the 85th Academy Awards red carpet arrivals, but that doesn’t mean we’ve finished with this year’s Oscars altogether, oh no. In true Hollywood fashion, some pretty spectacular after-parties followed, and once again they came courtesy of Vanity Fair and Elton John. Cue another best-dressed list which was pretty hard to conduct because the famous faces of Tinsel Town really “brought it” in the sartorial sense. Some ladies continued with the elongated and elegant dresses (i.e. respective Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress winners Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway) while others decided to go more fun and flirty and flashed the flesh in some shape or form. Take a look at some of our favourite after-party looks – did yours make the list? Lily Collins in Zuhair Murad Couture  Nina Dobrev in Naeem Khan  Kate Bosworth in Giambattista Valli Miranda Kerr in Valentino Louise Roe in Monique Lhuillier Kate Beckinsale in Monique Lhuillier Nicole Richie in Roberto Cavalli Fan Bingbing in Elie Saab  Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein Anne Hathaway in Saint Laurent Paris Miley Cyrus in Azzaro Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez  Heidi Klum  in Julien Macdonald  Ginnifer Goodwin in Monique Lhuillier Alessandra Ambrosio in Zuhair Murad Couture  Allison Williams in Valentino Zooey Deschanel in Valentino  Britney Spears in Michael Cinco Couture

London Fashion Week AW13: Highlights from Day 4

It;s nearing the end of yet another eventful and outstanding season at London Fashion Week, and we couldn’t be more excited about the offerings for next season! But as the saying goes, the best is usually saved till last, and so it was onto day 4 of the fash week schedule. Big shot fashion names were on the schedule for day 4, including Tom Ford (gush!), Erdem and Christopher Kane, and we couldn’t be more pleased with what these geniuses put before our eyes for next season! From Burberry to Peter Pilotto, packed with the most exciting names in fashion and the most anticipated shows in the Fashion Month calendar, here are all the highlights you need from day 4 of London Fashion Week: Burberry With Tom Odell serenading show attendees at the catwalk entrance, this show was only set to be on thing: the greatest. Every season, Burberry is the most buzzed about show, attracting a stellar frow (Rita Ora, Tinine Tempah and Kate Beckinsale were all in attendance). And for autumn/winter 2013-14, the fashion crowd was left just a positively dumbstruck.  Last season’s fizzy metallics turned glossy and grown up this season, as honeyed caramel trench coats and translucent pencil skirts mixed with skilfully subdued leopard print; a cute heart print on a collared shirt and dress broke the rules, whilst the emphasis on luxe animal prints accented with hard details made this collection a whole lot of fun. Christopher Kane Colour-pop belted buckles; fur-wrapped shoulders and a heavy dose of Kane’s charm made for an eye-pleasing collection. For autumn/winter 2013-14, Christopher Kane – with his PPR gold star badge pinned proudly to his chest – brought us camo print in its most desirable form, and ensured pleated minis and centre-slit skirts tugged at our heart strings. Packed with Kane’s signature bare midriffs; we were also treated to […]

The 2012 Independent Spirit Awards: The best dressed

Oscars, they may not be, but that doesn’t mean the outfits worn on the red carpet were any less exciting. In fact, a few of the looks worn at the 2012 Independent Spirit Awards were far better received at MFL HQ than some of those from yesterday’s Academy Awards. Is it because the attendees are so desperate to get it right on the Oscars red carpet that they hold back or play it safe?

Five minutes with Richard Sorger

After bursting onto the design scene four years ago, Richard Sorger’s quickly made a name for himself as one of Britain’s brightest ones to watch. Having dressed the classics – Cindy Crawford, Heidi Klum, Jennifer Lopez – and the cools – Courtney Love and Kate Beckinsale – Sorger’s signature couture-embellished designs have become some of the most coveted among the A-list and those in the know. So much so, in fact, he’s been commissioned to create special pieces for Swarovski and the Victoria and Albert Museum, and has collaborated with ASOS on an exclusive capsule collection to boot, bringing his intricate high-end pieces to the high street. More recently, though, the designer has been working on his own newly-launched diffusion line, RJS, which showed for the first time at London Fashion Week last month to rave reviews with the likes of Elle Macpherson and Amber Rose sitting front row. What’s more, he’s just teamed up with Wonderbra to judge the lingerie label’s Full Effect competition, where he’s pledged to spend the day with the winner of the stylist experience fitting and customising his trademark A-Z dress especially for them. We caught up with Richard last week to hear more about his exciting partnership with Wonderbra, what inspires his RJS line, and to see what’s in store from him for spring… Obviously we’re here to talk to you about your involvement in the new Wonderbra Full Effect competition, but before we get down to the bare essentials, we must congratulate you on your latest collection for spring/summer 2011! Can you tell us a bit about it? I showed the collection in the Masonic temple at the Andaz Liverpool Street Hotel, which is an awe-inspiring marble room with tiled floors, leather thrones and a ceiling decoration of astrological symbols. I also collaborated […]

Lea Michele in Zac Posen at the 2010 Tony Awards

Ever since we witnessed Michelle Williams at the 2006 Oscars in that bold, floor-length Vera Wang, we’ve had a bit of a thing for canary yellow on the red carpet. So you can imagine our joy when we saw photos of the Tony Awards last night and stumbled upon Glee star, Lea Michele, in this gorgeous Zac Posen number. Michele has made some brave style choices over the last year, having appeared in a leather mini dress to the New Moon premiere and having opted for an all-nude look in Herve L. Leroux at the DGA Awards, and while this might be a difficult colour to pull-off, Michele does it effortlessly with minimal accessories and just a dash of dark pink lippy. As we soon recalled Diane Kruger’s stunning, yellow Jason Wu gown at this year’s SAG Awards, we began to reminisce about all those other yellow beauties that have graced the red carpet thus far… Michele Williams wearing Vera Wang at the 2006 Oscars Reese Witherspoon wearing Nina Ricci at the 2007 Golden Globes Angelina Jolie wearing Emanuel Ungaro at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival Kate Beckinsale wearing Luisa Beccaria at the 2008 SAG Awards Vanessa Williams wearing Escada at the 2008 SAG Awards Diane Kruger wearing Jason Wu at the 2010 SAG Awards Dannii Minogue wearing Lisa Ho at the 2010 Elle Style Awards Sarah Jessica Parker wearing Valentino Couture at the New York Sex and the City 2 premiere We’re definitely going to brighten up our wardrobe with a splash of yellow this season. We might not have any red carpet events to attend but this short, draped dress from DVF is versatile enough to wear from day to night. And it’s reduced! £504 £248 from Matches.

The Met Costume Institute Gala 2009: The Gowns

Forget the Oscars. Last night NY was awash with celebs who scrubbed up and donned their best outfits for the annual Met Costume Institute Gala. Hosted by Marc Jacobs, Kate Moss and Justin Timberlake, the purpose of the event was to honour “the model as a muse. With actresses and singers dominating campaigns and magazine covers, the supermodel is a dying breed. So what to do? Celebrate their existence with an exhibition and a ball. Top tables for the evening set guests back a Alaia snub, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista and Stephanie Seymour chose not to attend….a bit sad really as all three would have set the carpet on fire. But alas we do still have a lot of material to work with. So here goes.

All eyes are on Victoria at post Oscar bash

At Elton John’s post Oscar party, you expect a whole host of stars. You expect all those who don’t get an invite to the awards to pull out all the stops for the parties. But there was only one person, we all wanted to look at: Victoria Beckham. She looked sensational. Who would have ever thought a long sleeved, high necked, floor length gown could ever look so sexy? It is one of her own creations, from her Victoria Beckham line and it really is stunning. There were other contenders for the style crown at the party, but none could beat Victoria. But let’s have a look at them anyway. So near There were some fabulous dresses on show, and one great trouser suit. I’m not normally a fan of suits at black tie events, but Eva Longoria managed that perfect blend between masculine and sexy. Those puffed up shoulders look fab and her toned down make up and hair suit her perfectly. Kate Beckinsale looked great in a beautiful one shouldered black dress. The diamonds also added a little sparkle turning her into a true Hollywood siren. Jennifer Love Hewitt managed to find the perfect fitting dress, and whilst it might not be the most showstopping of gowns, it suits her figure and shape beautifully. Natasha Bedingfield also opted for black in a form fitting number. The fish tail oozed sex appeal, whilst that low back showed off her great physique. There wasn’t a huge amount of colour on show. So a big round of applause goes to Tamara Mellon for her fabulous red dress. Almost modern Dynasty, she looks so on trend it hurts. And Elle Macpherson reminded us once more why she is ‘The Body’. She was also the most suitably dressed for a party sponsored by […]

The Grammy Awards 2009: The Good, the bad and the ugly!

The Grammy Awards is the one ceremony when stars can let their hair down and don some more interesting creations. It’s also the time when we get to see music stars trying their very best to look as stylish as Oscar nominees. Yes, it’s a mixed bag every year and this year was no exception. The Good Audrina Patridge , Looking like a young Audrey Hepburn, this column of teal from Tadesh looks stunning. The patent belt and clutch are right on trend and that side bun looks nonchalant chic. The neckline is incredibly flattering. An all round winner. Katy Perry , Hold the front page, Katy Perry actually got a red carpet look right, but she’s got a long way to go to make up for that horrendous performance. As for the Basil Soda gown, it is a gorgeous springtime pink, fits like a glove and the oversized corsage detail adds a creative edge. Carrie Underwood , Another surprise style winner. Shimmering delightfully in Zuhair Murad, Carrie shows off her wonderful figure and quite rightly plays down the accessories. Gwyneth Paltrow , She has become the queen of showstopping outfits. Working her incredible legs, she does look phenonmenal. Gwyneth quite literally shines in Versace. The Bad Miley Cyrus , Herve Leger by Max Azria is the brand of choice at the moment. But the young, gorgeous ones usually choose a nice little body con. And whilst I appreciate that Miley is enough trouble without getting her boobs out, she should have opted to dress her age. Solange Knowles , Talking of acting your age, whilst Miley needs to look more youthful, Solange needs to age up. This outfit is something you might have worn to your school disco aged 14. Not the Grammy Awards aged 22. Sheryl Crowe , […]

Jessica Alba Is Blooming Perfect At Mechanic: Resurrection Premiere

Much like off-shoulder pieces, the denim jacket and mules amongst a few other trends, florals re-entered our wardrobes in spring and show no signs of leaving anytime soon. However autumn floral prints are slightly different to the bright and bold flowers we saw in spring/summer ’16 – they’re darker and edgier in comparison. Channelling autumn/winter ’16 florals beautifully was none other than Jessica Alba who looked gorgeous as always in a strapless, floor-length floral gown by Dolce & Gabbana at the Los Angeles premiere of Mechanic: Resurrection. Keeping accessories to a bare minimum, Jessica opted to carry her essentials in an emerald green version of Edie Parker’s “Jean” clutch. Simple yet sophisticated. We’re loving her look. Are you?
