Love or Hate: Marc Jacobs multi spot flower jumpsuit

Broadly speaking, summer is the season the jumpsuit comes out to play. There’s something about those balmy evenings that makes the all-in-one look so right. But whilst it’s a welcome change to easy dresses and is guaranteed to always attract attention, many of us avoid it in fear of an epic style failure. However, this Marc Jacobs multi-spot flower jumpsuit may just be the answer to all our quandaries. I love the Seventies trend and this jumpsuit perfectly epitomises this for me. The wide waist belt with large flowers is a real focal point and screams Summer of Love. Plus, the wide trouser legs in floaty silk make it extra chic and perfect for warm evenings.  The hemline of the jumpsuit is super long so it requires a pair of seriously vertiginous heels, and a small leather clutch bag perfectly completes the look. It’s a little bit hippie, a little bit Seventies-luxe and a little bit Carrie Bradshaw. Love.  Marc Jacobs Multi Spot Flower Jumpsuit, £1,165, available at Matches. BUY NOW!

Deal of the day: Carvela Kooper platforms

We’re always in search of a great daytime heel and Carvela has just the answer. For weekend wear and city stomping, check out these Carvela Kooper platforms. One of our fave things about these chunky platforms is the feature detailing. A chestnut leather band with a gold chunky chain around the heel echoes the tan leather straps, and the gold buckle detailing and dark wooden heel give extra style points. Best of all, the elevated platform will give additional comfort so you can wear these hotties all day long. If clogs aren’t quite you’re thing, these are a subtle nod towards Swedish style. Wear with Seventies kick flares and white cotton tops for a flowers-in-your-hair, hippie chic vibe. Reduced from £140 to £89, we reckon the weekend starts here. Elle Macpherson’s ravishing retro look

The school run for most Mums usually consists of throwing on whatever clothes are nearest whilst trying to hoard their kids out the door, but that’s not the case with Elle Macpherson, who’s probably the only woman on the planet who looks this fashionable when taking her kids to school. But then again, most Mums don’t get papped first thing in the morning. We love the retro ensemble that Elle was sporting in London last week. Fully embracing the hot Seventies trend, she made her legs look endless in high-waisted denim flares and stacked heels. The simple light blue shirt and tan accessories – yes, that’s a Mulberry Tillie – resulted in a fun and fabulous Chelsea Girl look from the Aussie beauty, and we admit it, we’ll definitely be attempting it in the coming weeks. Even her hair was a bouncy, honey blonde picture of perfection. She obviously woke up on the right side of the bed that morning. [poll id=”99″]

Steep vs Cheap: White Espadrille Wedges

Wedges are back with a vengeance. Far removed from the idea of being unflattering and clumpy, the wedge heel has been renovated in delicious hues and textures, and they’re set to take over the throne of foot couture this season. We’re seriously digging the smokin’ Seventies vibe a pair of espadrille wedges bring to our spring style, and we can’t wait to pair them endlessly with our entire summer wardrobe. Enter Michael Kors’ leather espadrille wedge sandals. In this season’s coveted clinical white, they exude angelic summer style. There’s been much fuss over the versatility of wedges this season, but we love the raw edges of these espadrille wedge heels for elevating a simple outfit to heavenly heights. Pair with straight-leg jeans and a simple blouse in a spun-sugar shade for a speedy spring update to a classic outfit – but be warned, they come with the not so holier-than-thou price tag of £440. To ensure we don’t put a foot wrong this summer, we’ve found an equally chic and purse-friendly version by Steve Madden.  The raffia platform sole and washed canvas uppers promise the same sleekness as their heavily-priced counterparts, without offending the overdraft. Which will you choose? Michael Kors leather espadrille sandals, £440, available at Net-a-Porter. BUY NOW! Steve Madden fraid espadrille wedge sandals, £75, available at ASOS. BUY NOW!

Lunchtime buy: Isabella Oliver suede jacket

With Easter almost over, we can’t wait to slide into our comfy jeans and slouchy T-shirt after a weekend gorging on chocolate and anything remotely Easter-related. But our casual choice doesn’t mean we want to bypass style, and with the weather predicted to drop a few degrees, we’ll be dressing up our downtown combo whilst channelling this season’s Seventies style thanks to Isabella Oliver’s suede jacket. Luckily for us this jacket’s had a modern upgrade with a slim fit and cool draped collar – plus, it’s cropped shape makes it the perfect cover up for spring days, and the rich russet colour will work against tans a treat. Accessorise carefully to avoid looking like you’re on your way to a fancy dress party and opt for subtle bronze tones for a hint of glamour. Deal of the day: French Connection Libby lace top

The catwalk was awash with ladylike trends for spring, one of the best being luxe-looking lace. As seen at Christopher Kane and Erdem, lace can be both super-feminine when paired with florals or pastels, or can check all your cool boxes when with styled with neon brights. No longer the staple of bridal parties, lace is right for all occasions this summer, and French Connection has got the trend spot on with their Sixties-inspired Libby lace top, available in cream and navy. For super sweet chic, pair with slim trousers and chunky heels and minimal make up for a modern take on the timeless material. Our favourite is the beautiful soft cream version, but we love the navy when glammed up for evening or toughened with sharp accessories. However you wear it this summer, one thing is for sure – everyone loves lace. French Connection Libby lace top, £70, available at French Connection. BUY NOW!

We want everything from my-wardrobe’s AW11 collection!

Before you say anything, we know, it’s not cool to gush etc., but it’s incredibly hard when your mind has been filled with fashion loveliness (yes, that’s a real thing). We popped along to my-wardrobe’s autumn/winter 2011 press day yesterday, and let us tell you, you’re in for a right treat next season. We can’t possibly cover all the cool things we saw, so instead we’ll break down the best bits that you need to look out for: Everything from See by Chloe: a printed silk camel shirt, tobacco flares and a printed wide leg jumpsuit are all you need for sublime Seventies style next season.   Everything from 3.1 Phillip Lim: the easiest downtown designs you’ll ever wear, Lim’s low-luxe is perfected in layered textures, cool cropped knits and a silk-wool dress cut to look like a polished two-piece.   Acne’s cropped biker: it’s the softest buttery leather and boasts slouchy cropped sleeves for effortless edge. Oh, and it’s wine coloured. Also, Acne’s brogue wedges are the craziest kind of cool.   Tibi’s wool shift: A classic textured wool shift made cool with brown leather pockets.   Goat’s red dress: A little red dress has become a style staple, but it’s so hot next season. We love Goat’s 3/4 sleeve tomato-red mini for flirty Sixties fun.   Camilla Skovgaard zipped boots… actually, everything from Camillia Skovgaard: The cool cult designer’s created a genius shearling-lined boot with her signature scultped soles and, wait for it, two zips and poppers that can be unzipped and unpopped. There’s at least four different boots hidden in that one style if you’ve got time to be creative. She’s also designed a classic court shoe with zero architectural tread, but the soles are made from suede.   MySuelly: you’re about to meet a new handbag […]

There’s something from every decade at Warehouse next season

A fan of the Fifties? A sucker for the Sixties? Swooning for the Seventies? You can see where we’e going with this – Warehouse has something from every decade next season (well, we counted at least three). If you’re into androgyny, there’s a whole host of masculine tailored pieces to pick from, including Teddy Boy-style trousers, classic button-up shirts and the loveliest grey overcoat with leather edging that’s top of our wish list. If you want something more girlie, try Sherbet, Warehouse’s candy pink Fifties collection, or Modern Deco, a glitzy glamorous assortment of sparkles. Our faves? Portrait of a Woman – classic tailoring with clean lines and a sleek finish; Heritage – country-inspired herringbones and textured tweeds; and Magazine – a Seventies-inspired collection of bright prints and feminine shapes. Look out for the bright fantasy fur stoles (pictured above) – everyone will be clambering for them come autumn (and yes, they’re a dead ringer for Gucci‘s). Steep vs Cheap: Wide-leg trouser

The angelic brilliance of crisp whites and linen creams embraced this season’s catwalks as ambitiously as their colour block counterparts, and there’s only one way we want to wear them. The new black in fashion editors’ wardrobes and channelling heady Seventies glamour with a modern twist, wide leg trousers in shades of white and ecru exude versatility and effortless chic, making them a must-have investment for the style conscious. Enter Calvin Klein Collection’s Grover silk-blend wide leg pants. Despite the lofty couture price tag of £1,570, it’s difficult to dismiss the luxurious strides we could take in a pair of these all summer. Take them from minimalist to maximalist by pairing with a brightly hued T-shirt, contrasting wedges and round sunnies, or, embrace Parisian chic by wearing with a tucked in Breton stripe jumper and wooden heels. But for those of us not blessed with a clothing allowance resembling Anna Dello Russo’s, Maxmara is our spring saviour. Cashing in on a less pricey version with an equal footing in the style stakes, Maxmara’s linen wide leg trousers deliver the perfect punch to brighten up your spring wardrobe. Brave an airy white out by teaming clean lines with differing shades of white, or wear with bold hues and plenty of bravado. Either way, you’ll be looking undeniably chic. Now, will you save or splurge? Calvin Klein Collection Grover silk-blend wide-leg pants, £1,570, available at Net-a-Porter. BUY NOW! Maxmara Linen wide leg trousers, £198, available at Matches. Steep vs Cheap: Silk Blouse

Channel two of spring’s hottest trends in one by investing in a brightly hued blouse. Voluminous silhouettes dominated spring summer catwalks, and dazzling pigments are definitely here to stay. And if carrying bold colours fearlessly is what this season is all about, make sure you invest in a piece that really makes a striking statement. Enter Gucci. The luxury label’s stunning silk Georgette blouse offers a splash of vibrant orange, and the gold button detailing and pussybow tie lend perfectly to this season’s Seventies glam. We want to wear ours tucked into cream wide-legged trousers to balance out the full-bodied pop of colour, and finish off with leather wedges for sweet statement style. But coming with a near-couture price tag of £595, it’ll take you to be as bold with the cash as you are with colour to work it this season. But don’t worry, we’ve got a cheaper luxe substitute to this season’s essential piece. Diane Von Furstenberg offers the perfect alternative to Gucci’s pricier version. In a similar hue of vivid orange, the DVF Louche blouse features a loose fit and bears blouson sleeves and a pussybow tie to boot – all at under half the cost of Gucci’s version. The key to rocking it? Pair intense shades with muted tones to ensure your look isn’t too overpowering, and balance the oversized silhouette with a fitted pencil skirt and pared-down pumps for pure lady-like allure. Which will you go for? Gucci Silk georgette pussy bow blouse, £565, available at Net-a-Porter. BUY NOW! Diane Von Furstenberg Bairly louche blouse, £200, available at Matches. BUY NOW!

Olivia Rubin launches capsule accessories collection for Dune

Olivia Rubin’s highly-anticipated collection for Dune hit stores last weekend, and as pictures from the collection quickly make their way online, we popped down to the online launch last night to take a closer look at the collaboration. Fans of the London designer will be pleased to know she’s worked her signature prints across a range of shoes and bags for the high street store, where killer platforms, party-ready pumps, everyday wedges and adorable flats sit alongside silk clutches and handheld totes. Taking three key prints from her previous ready-to-wear collections, there’s three distinct directions – a contemporary take on classic monochrome, a playful Seventies disco vibe fusing arty prints with vibrant colour pops, and a softer neutral print reminiscent of Seventies safari. “It has been an incredible experience working with Dune on this collaboration and bringing a selection of my signature prints onto a range of both classic and contemporary shoes and accessories,” says Olivia. “They understand my vision as a designer and together we worked on creating a collection that has something for everybody – I can’t wait to wear them myself!” And she did last night – her favourites are the Warhol platforms (incidentally, each shoe is named after an artist), but more on that later. Olivia Rubin for Dune is available in Dune stores and online now, with prices ranging from £65 for a multi-coloured pump to £110 for the statement raffia platform sandals – we suggest getting in there quickly, they’re set to go down a storm. Psst – watch our interview with Olivia here to find out more. [nggallery id=9]

AW11 trend report

We haven’t even started wearing our spring strings yet and already everyone’s talking about autumn – we don’t blame them, though, good things are coming to a closet near you next season. If you want to stay ahead of the frolic (and let’s face it, it’s no fun coming last), we’ve rounded up the hottest trends from the autumn/winter 2011 runways that you won’t want to miss. Stay psyched, we’ll be wearing them sooner than we’d like to admit… Spots Marc Jacobs, David Koma, Stella McCartney Go dotty, literally, for spots and circles next autumn as anything round rules the runway – perennial polkas and Dalmatian drops included. Marc Jacobs layered spotted separates and accessories, David Koma couldn’t resist adding pom poms and Stella McCartney’s laser-cut circles became infectious. Colour Jaeger, Roksanda Ilincic, Jonathan Saunders Good news if you’re a partial to a colour pop, the autumn runways picked up where spring stopped and sent a riot of colour to rival a rainbow. Reds add a contemporary edge to classic camels while vivid primary pops break up black and brighten warm autumnal shades. Monochrome Julien Macdonald, Giles, Louis Vuitton Not braving the bold? Try black and white, instead. When colour wasn’t clattering the catwalk, monochrome was making just as much of an impact, especially at Julien Macdonald where signature jewel shades were swapped for gothic blacks and at Giles and Louis Vuitton where bondage-style straps took the darkside to the depths of dominatrix. Texture Marni, Aquascutum, Fendi If you’re partial to sequins, suede and fur, here’s your chance to wear it all at once. Texture is all or nothing next season and more, as they say, is more. Sumptuous silks, soft fur, lace and leather team together for a luxe look, tweeds and knits offer a smattering of the countryside, […]

Paris Fashion Week AW11 round-up

As Paris Fashion Week brought the month-long round of AW11 collections to an end, we’ve scoured through the shows to bring you a quick-fire round-up of our favourites from the City of Light. Take a look at our highlights from the sartorial proceedings in Paris below… Who: Alexander McQueen What: The collection, at times, maintained a softer silhouette than we’re used to from the house of McQueen, but once again Sarah Burton proved she knows what she’s doing with the label. With white tweed skirts, fur accents, opened pleats, grey separates, intricate suits, knitted fur detailing, raw chiffon frills, spray-on leather leggings, robotic bustiers, platform shoes and moulded silhouettes galore – this was yet another truly astounding collection, with McQueen’s signature style printed all over it. And the finale of wedding-esque dresses did nothing to dispel the Kate Middleton rumours. Who: Chanel What: Lagerfeld definitely celebrated International Women’s Day with his autumn/winter collection at Paris Fashion Week, and with raw silhouetted clothing making a profound impact on the catwalk, there was no denying the rough, tough and ready mood of the clothes: an abundance of boiler suits, cropped jackets, pleated trousers, tweed legwarmers, flat brogues and mannish ankle boots. Who: Louis Vuitton What: A quintessential collection of hotel uniform-inspired clothes, with patent leather jackets, sheer skirts exposing suspenders and bottom-revealing cashmere onesies completing the array of rule-breaking get-ups. Surprise appearances from Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss smoking stole the show. Who: Lanvin What: A collection of sophisticated silhouettes, with mustard and caramel draped fabric dresses aplenty. Who: Valentino What: A romantic collection of lace and cashmere, delicate jumpers and A-line dresses. Who: Miu Miu What: A statement collection of signature Sixites shapes, bold colour blocking and sparkly heels galore. Who: Givenchy What: A collection inspired by the Japanese kimono silhouette […]

This week we’re casting our minds back to the trends we wish we’d never laid eyes on, the one hit wonders we wish we’d never worn, and the ones we’re well-rid of. Only if you live in Holland and have grown accustom to these hideous wooden items of footwear are you forgiven for favouring the dreaded clog. As for the rest of us, there was no excuse for the unwelcomed return of this awful backless shoe last spring – which made way for a rather unwelcomed fashion trend we’d soon forget. Other than the Seventies, there was a brief spell in the mid-Nineties when clogs suddenly became fashionable again, so this in itself should suggest some things are better left well alone – absence definitely doesn’t make the heart grow fonder for these little mules. But where Parisian fashion giants Chanel are concerned, the clog was the perfect footwear frame for last year’s SS11 collection, with nearly every outfit finished off with a pair of these ankle breaking disasters. Not only are they difficult to walk in, you’re guaranteed almost certain injury with every step you take – but hey, who cares, right? A broken ankle here, a twisted foot there, it’s all in the name of fashion, dahling! Yeah right. These were by far the worst comeback disaster of last year (especially after the high street did them to death) – and one we won’t be reliving anytime soon.

Do you remember?: trucker hats

Ever look back and wonder why you wore that? So do we. This week we’re casting our minds back to the trends we wish we’d never laid eyes on, the one hit wonders we wish we’d never worn, and the ones we’re well-rid of. Straw boaters, trilbys, bowler hats – trendy headwear comes and goes, usually depending on the season and who the hottest indie band of the moment is (thank the Kooks for the straw trilby). But as floppy Seventies hats become the only hat to be seen in this season, it’s hard to believe that, once upon a time, trucker caps were ever the hat of choice. Back in the early Noughties every celeb from Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton to Ashton Kutcher and David Beckham were seen sporting them. Originally worn by American lorry drivers, the hats generally featured “witty” slogans or cartoon designs in bright colours and overly padded fabrics. They weren’t the most flattering of hats, yet they still somehow gained a loyal A-list following – and still do in some cases (Britney Spears and the Jersey Shore cast, we’re talking to you). Even uber-polished and preened Victoria Beckham regularly donned a trucker cap over her long extensions back in her WAG days – we bet she turns red at the mere memory now. This is one trend we truly hope never resurfaces – red-neck chic doesn’t even have a ring to it.

Rachel Zoe’s maternity style

Only celeb stylist Rachel Zoe would consider five inch thigh-high boots appropriate maternity wear but gosh, doesn’t she do it well? Attending a Pre-Oscars party in LA last weekend, the mum-to-be wore head-to-toe black.   Since LA is experiencing some of it’s coldest days since the 1940s at the moment (no, we’re not in the least bit smug!), Rachel wrapped up in a huge shaggy fur coat. The outfit underneath was very simple – skinny jeans and a black tunic – but it’s her uber chic accessorising that takes the look from drab to directional. Adding her trademark oversized glasses and a bang on trend Seventies floppy hat, Zoe’s outfit was a far cry from the average Mothercare mum attire. What do you think of Rachel Zoe’s look? Is she a slummy or yummy Mummy? [poll id=”46″]

Milan Fashion Week AW11: Just Cavalli and Giorgio Armani

One iconic designer to bring Milan Fashion Week to an end yesterday was Roberto Cavalli and his Just Cavalli womenswear collection for autumn/winter 2011. Reminiscent of glamorous hippies in tiered chiffon dresses with cherry print detailing, ruffled necklines and flowing capped sleeves, Cavalli painted a picture of perfect feminine innocence for next season. Sheepskin-trimmed denim jackets and shaggy mammoth fur shawls gave way to a strong Mongolian theme, while A-line denim skirts and high-waisted flared jeans made for a distinct Seventies vibe. But fear not, Cavalli didn’t forget his beloved leopard print and that signature flare could be seen on long flowing maxi dresses come the end of the show – phew! Last but not least on yesterday’s runway was Giorgio Armani and his latest collection of classic autumn silhouettes – with an alluring feminine aura. With cropped ankle trousers making a profound statement for the Armani woman this winter alongside Perspex heels, jewelled stilettos, feathered jackets, quilted three-quarter length coats, glittering princess dresses, scalloped tops, tunic dresses and even a playful T-shirt dress that celebrated a Fifties icon. A predominantly black colour scheme took hold of the collection, while splashes of powder pink and orange hues here and there gave a hint of colour, making way for a very delicate autumn wardrobe indeed.

London Fashion Week AW11: House of Holland

Who: House of Holland What: Pastel separates, sweet tailoring and Seventies-inspired patchwork prints. Thoughts: House of Holland’s autumn/winter 2011 collection is nothing shy of colour, and quite frankly, we love it – the clothes were fun and, as always, Henry isn’t taking fashion too seriously. With sweetly tailored separates in pastel pink, lemon yellow, powder blue and pale purple, quirky orange striped calf-length socks, sharp coats and two-piece wool suits, the House of Holland girl looks to have grown up a little next season, but she’s still got her playful edge. A recurring Seventies-inspired patchwork pattern crops up on over-sized chunky knit scarves, tights, skirts and cute camisole tops to add a retro rainbow of colour, and typically cheeky symbols – a suggestive finger in hole here and a ‘hawt couture’ slogan there – are thrown in for good measure. With miniature pom poms on the sleeves of sweatres and oversized beading forming corset-style cupping on strappy dresses or on clustered together on the shoulders and hem of a shift, House of Holland’s latest offering is an absolute eye pleaser.

London Fashion Week AW11: Issa

Who: Issa London What: All things animalistic and tangarine separates. Thoughts: Undeniably well crafted, Issa’s autumn/winter collection is decidedly Seventies-inspired. With stunning peacock print maxi dresses and others with a retro coloured chain print, daring splashes of vivid colour – aqua and tangerine, in particular, appearing on fluid floor-length dresses and a princess coat – made a striking statement on the runway. Signature draping, pencil skirts, leather gloves and even a Robin Hood-inspired cap with a structured feather-shaped adornment that became a dominant accessory throughout the collection added a chic and utterly feminine edge. Capturing the true spirit of season-appropriate Seventies glam – helped by guest appearances from Yasmin Le Bon in a curve-hugging silk pencil skirt and Andrea Dellal in a statement tomato dress – we’re particularly fond of the warm cranberry and leafy green colour palette and bold Brazilian brights Daniella Helayel’s offering for autumn. Though it’s not among our favourites, it’s a strong collection from Issa nonetheless – but we know what you’re all wondering, and no, she didn’t turn up. [Images]

New York Fashion Week: Michael Kors

Marking his 30 year career in the fashion industry, Michael Kors took centre stage in the Big Apple yesterday with his AW11 collection at New York Fashion Week. With the likes of Anjelica Huston, Debra Messing, Emma Roberts, Rene Russo, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas all sitting front row for the event, and supermodels Erin Wasson, Karlie Kloss, Carmen Kass and Chanel Iman strutting down the catwalk, it was certainly a starry show indeed. But onto the collection. With sharply tailored coats in olive green and camel hues, feminine draped dresses with silver embellishment, plenty of pillar box red fur coats and a furry handbag to match, the clothes were definitely forward in the trend department. A varied colour scheme with camel, grey, blush, nude, red, brown and black tones, the American designer’s autumn collection was full of Seventies-inspired decadence – and we, for one, think Michael Kors has truly outshone himself.

Elle Style Awards 2011 worst dressed: Donna Air

Donna Air turned up to the Elle Style Awards with beautiful shoes, a great handbag, perfectly styled hair and make-up… and then ruined it all by putting on that jumpsuit. Unflattering, tacky and cheap-looking, the TV presenter didnt do herself justice in this ensemble. Although a jumpsuit is a great option to be comfortable and cool on a chilly Febuary night, she should’ve gone for a more wearable Seventies style to cement her style credentials – we bet looking like last night’s leftovers wrapped in tin foil wasn’t quite what she was aiming for… Do you like Donna’s statement silver style? New York Fashion Week: BCBG Max Azria and Vena Cava

BCBG Max Azria was the first major show of New York Fashion Week to kick start the sartorial proceedings yesterday, with Kelly Rowland, Ashanti, and Maggie Rizer sitting front row eagerly awaiting a promising collection. The clothes translated into a mixture of long and midi-length tissue-like dresses, many of which were backless or belted with soft chiffon layers, and a predominanty neutral colour palette with the occasional bright blue or splash of vibrant orange. Many of the minimal silk dresses came complete with turtle necks and sturdy Seventiesinspired cowboy boots – not the most feminine of looks, but the clean, modest sculptural detailing made way for an interesting wardrobe trend. Vena Cava Meanwhile over at the Vena Cava catwalk later on in the day, models could be seen strutting their stuff in a mish-mash of Nineties flashbacks, with cut-out dresses, crop tops, berets, long skirts, trousers and platform shoes aplomb. But the revival didn’t end there – designers Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock took the style inspiration one step further, creating a zine full of imagery including Calvin Klein Jean ads, No Doubt and Saved by the Bell. While everyone knows designers look to the past for fashion inspiration, we wonder if this delicious decade will be a sure-fire hit like the Seventies? Stay tuned for more from New York Fashion Week…

Five minutes with designer Micaela Ezra

Australian-born designer Micaela Ezra is beginning to make a name for herself in the fashion capital of New York. Fresh from graduating and showing at Australian Fashion Week in her home country, she packed up her samples and moved to the Big Apple four years ago to gain more experience – and a bigger presence – in the industry. After numerous knocks on even moor doors, Micaela found herself sitting with designer Cynthia Steffe who, luckily, offered her a job there and then – one which she remained at for three years, no less. It was only when she attended a party one evening she met her current business partner Maytal Sharifi, and the rest, as they say, is history – three stylish yet practical brands, Sine, Laila and Parameter, were born. With her labels now stocked at the likes of Bloomingdales, Anthropologie and other cult boutiques around the world, we caught up with Micaela to have a chat about her journey to the big city, get the low-down on her inspirations, check in on her personal style, and find out her plans for the future of the brands… What is the difference between Sine and Laila, and how did they begin? Sine is a contemporary sportswear collection that presents a seamless union of creativity and functionality. We believe that wearing Sine is wearing your heart on your sleeve. Emotions are portrayed through vivid colors and expressive prints – many of these are my own artworks which we digitally print onto fabric! Laila is an ‘effortless eveningwear’ collection that, as an extension, captures the same emotive spirit as its sister line Sine. It is a range of both cocktail dresses and gowns, also focusing on sumptuous textiles, exciting color and unique print. Recently we launched Laila Bridal! How would you […]

SS11 trend recap: new-season nudes and every-occasion denim

If all these powerful prints and vibrant shades are too much for your wardrobe to handle, you’ll be pleased to know SS11 is no stranger to nudes and easy-wearing denim. Following on from yesterday’s lesson in lady-like dressing and retro throwbacks, take time to indulge in something softer on the palette next season and look to these two trends as your spring style saviour. New-season nudes L-R: 3.1 Phillip Lim, Chloe, Richard Nicoll Next season’s chaotic colours seem to have had an adverse affect on some designers, who opted to simplify and pare-down their palettes for spring in favour of something decidely more delicate – and autumn’s camel fans will be pleased. From soft shades of sand at 3.1 Phillip Lim to fleshy tones at Chloe and fresh, high-gloss finishes at Richard Nicoll, second-skin stains make a subtle style statement. Want a tip? Try teaming with sweeps of black for a more directional approach. Every-occasion denim L-R: Derek Lam, Mulberry, Stella McCartney Forget your fail-safe shorts (though not entirely, of course), spring’s got new ideas for denim next season – and it’ll crop up in just about every form imaginable. From chambray shirts to slack skirts via pinafore dresses and super-fine flares in between, spring’s denim is lightweight, luxe and ever-versatile. Take your cue from Derek Lam and double up, go frilly and feminine a la Mulberry, or swap stiff for slouchy like Stella McCartney – there’s a denim for every occasion next season. And, for extra points, work your denim with neutral tobacco tones for a cool, contemporary colour combination. [Images: Style.com]
