When I was growing up in the 80’s, Barbie was my idol. I had Barbie dresses, shoes, tops and accessories in every colour and style imaginable. Now, more than twenty years later, Barbie will make a comeback in the form of a fashion collaboration with high-street chain, Mango. Don’t laugh – I’m serious!
Following in the footsteps of Levi Strauss & Co. (the first denim brand to use the Andy Warhol prints in their ‘Warhol Factory X’ denim collection a couple of years ago), Pepe Jeans London is creating a 250-piece denim and accessory collection inspired by Andy Warhol’s artistic style.
The Andy Warhol Collection by Pepe will consist of two separate collections – Pop and Factory (it all sounds a bit Sienna Miller, doesn’t it?) – and will include both men and women’s looks.
Marks & Spencer have done their best to shake off their dated image in the past few years, what with Supermodel Erin O’Connor and fashion icon, Twiggy acting as the face of their brand. But their latest collaboration will put even the fashionably-forward Topshop to shame – and that’s not an easy feat, you know.
Up and coming, LA based designer, Geren Ford recently debuted a collection, Hawks, as a collaboration with Urban Outfitters. Known for her edgy and youthful take on fashion, the line features vintage-inspired tunics, shorts and dresses that are easy to layer and wear from day to night.
I am so excited to watch the new Sex and the City movie when it comes out in two weeks time (I am the hugest fan). But what’s more exciting is the latest project from Sex and the City’s super-stylist, Patricia Field – her limited edition coke bottles!
We’ve been talking a lot about Target’s collaboration with famous designers like Proenza Schouler, Temperley and Gryson, but in most recent news, the mass retailer announced that it will be teaming with high-end department store, Barney’s New York, to sell its latest collection by featured designer, Rogan Gregory.
As strange as this sounds, this means that Rogan’s Target collection, with prices ranging from $15-$45 will be sold at Barney’s, next to Rogan’s regular RTW collection with prices at nearly ten times the Target line.
With the impending onset of summer (ha!) comes the inevitable announcement of those annual summer trends that will never go away (nautical stripes or ethnic prints anyone?). Lets take the ever-present ’safari’ trend - predictable and a little bit tired if you go down the old khaki jacket route; far more exciting if you take a walk on the wild side with all those beauties of the animal kingdom.
The suspense is over. For autumn, H&M will collaborate with, Comme des Garçons.
Founder and head designer of the Japanese label, Rei Kawakubo will create a capsule collection for both women and men, childrenswear, accessories for the high street retailer, and will throw in a unisex fragrance too.
Of the partnership, Kawakubo said,
“I have always been interested in the balance between creation and business. It is a dilemma, although for me creation has always been the first priority. It is a fascinating challenge to work with H&M since it is a chance to take the dilemma to its extreme, and try to solve it”.
