UGG I love your shoes, just not your bags!

UGG Australia emerged on the fashion scene in the form of comfortable boots. Originally intended for Australian surfers, UGGs graced the feet of most females as the ideal errand-running shoe of choice. Pick up a celeb mag and you’re bound to find many celebs parading in their UGGS. This “shoe take-over” really worked for the company and the shoes have exponentially grown in terms of popularity over the years.

The slithering sexiness of the animal print

I have a confession, it may shock you, it may even disgust you, but I am afraid it is true. I love animal prints. Yes, I know, but it’s true, leopard prints, snakeskin, crocodile, even butterfly wings. I really do love a print. They can look awful, tacky, cheap. But there is a certain charm, almost a kitsch quality to the tackiness of animal prints. And it would seem I’m not the only one who thinks so. The designers have gone print crazy for this season, check out Luella, Alexander McQueen and of course the king of print; Roberto Cavalli. Not forgetting the high street, which is currently inundated with all sorts of skin creations, many of them taking on a vintage feel. Peep toes, structured handbags and cropped gloves, manage to transport the tacky to the tasteful. There’s a 1940s feel to this season’s animal print trend. This continues the kitsch look but makes it a little more wearable. The most important rule with animal print is less is more and keep the rest of your outfit understated. If you want a demure approach go for a crocodile skin, the more daring will opt for leopard or snakeskin. If you’re feeling extrovert why not try a skin print dress like the one pictured. This Bolongaro Trevor, £135 from Urban Outfitters, will look great with opaque tights, ankle boots and the obligatory rouged pout. Check out Topshop, Oasis, and Miss Selfridge for great accessories. If you want to get more mileage out of your skins then head to Jaeger for some gorgeous bold snakeskin chiffons. Reiss also have some very sexy snakeskin shoes in an array of colours. Print is all about sassy seduction. Animal prints = animal instincts, purrrfect!

Marmalade sandwiches, so in vogue!

Every so often there is a trend that takes you straight back to your childhood. It gives you that warm fuzzy sense of nostalgia, whether its flat patent pumps with bows, mittens or wellington boots, these all put a leap in your step. How to Wear Coloured Mascara

Like leggings, ra-ra skirts, cone bra tops and corsets before it, another style moment from the eighties is making itself felt again. Umm humm coloured mascara is back, with new bold colour lines being added to major make up brands collections. And I for one am a big fan. There’s blue, purple, green, maroon, even gold.

Winter Style: Shiny Nylon Jacket By Moncler

The nights are drawing in and the days are getting colder, yes ladies it’s time to start pulling your winter wardrobe forward from the recesses of the cupboard. The Gilet: Do You Dare to Wear?

The 70s invasion has continued to dominate the catwalks. We’ve seen flares, stars and stripes, graphic t-shirts not to mention those lumberjack shirts and I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a crop top or two. Well now you can welcome the shag pile, and this isn’t a shag pile for your floor oh no, this one you’re going to wear.

High Time For High-Waisted Shorts!

I am, and always have been, a dress girl through and through. The devotion to flippy skirts and girly dresses that carries me through dreary winters in a haze of opaque tights and scuffed boots only intensifies with the sun. An excuse to let my dresses lead the life they were intended for, a life of bare legs, pretty flowers and sunlit frolics? Why, of course. This summer, however, something odd has happened to me. Sometime between my love affair with 70s French girls clad in pale denim and the inevitable in-flux of Glastonbury pictures, I have developed an over-riding desire to own a pair of high waisted denim shorts.

Trends: On the fringe

For some time now, I have been trying to curb a creeping desire to adorn myself in fringing. Not so ridiculous as it sounds, really, when you consider that it dwells in the same oh-so-desirable-if-slightly-hippy realm as festival girls, pale denim and the saturated colours of 70s postcards.

Have We Skipped A Season? Is Autumn Here?

So I can’t help but complain that regardless of which site I shop, they’re all trying to covince me that it’s autumn. According to Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus the leaves should be changing to deep reds, oranges and yellows, the sun should be setting earlier and we should all be wearing long sleeves and pants when infact the sun is shining until late in the evening, women are baring their arms and legs for all to see and the leaves are as green as can be.

The Edge of Style!

As ubiquitous as the images from “The Edge of Love” (the upcoming film about poet Dylan Thomas starring Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller) have become, I can’t help but love them so. I remain utterly seduced by the rugged 40s flowers that the girls appear to be, despite the slight bitterness that the film has turned what is essentially my day to day look of choice (floral dresses, woolly cardigans and a smudge of lipstick) into a fashion cliche.

MTV Movie Awards 2008: The Best Of The Gold Carpet

Anyone else tired of the glam outfits that starlets are opting for this season? There is a major fascination at the moment with pretty, romantic mini and one shouldered dresses. Nice but…boring. Which is probably why amongst a sea of predictable outfits, it was SJP and Charlize Theron that stood out for me at yesterday’s MTV movie awards. Both actresses donned elegant looks with an edge.

Style Crush: Ashlee Simpson

Okay, I am admitting this with great reluctance, but … I really like Ashlee Simpson’s style. This is frustrating to me, because I’m not entirely sure what she does (the lip-synching snafu of a few years ago proves that she receives some, um, assistance), and she’s just a little too ooey-gooey with Pete Wentz. But I really have a thing for her look.

Handbags on Steroids: Oversized Mania

I’m very much a minimalist when it comes to carting around personal possessions – the lighter and smaller the bag, the better, unless I’m purposefully aiming for an arm workout or backache. I was very excited for the recent clutch movement and am surprised to see the opposite end of the spectrum still taking on more size. Perhaps this is a ploy by designers to produce even more expensive bags? After all, bigger bags = bigger price tags? In recent months, we’ve spotted fashionistas on the town toting ridiculously giant bags (most notoriously,

Steep vs. Cheap: Dipped in Liquid Leather

So a couple months back, we mentioned that celebs like Lindsay Lohan and Rihanna were bringing leather-esque leggings back to the mainstream. Since then, the rocker-inspired look has taken the streets by storm, and shiny, ultra-tight black pants (if you can even call them that) have started to give the skinny jean movement a run for its money.

Madonna: More Material for the Material Girl?

Eek! Even though we love Madonna and will always think of her as “untouchable, we couldn’t help but cringe at her chosen red carpet look for her induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. There are almost too many offenses to mention: like the snug leather thigh high boots, the unflattering sheer fabric over peek-a-boo lingerie, and the overly severe white contrasting trim of the dress that makes the pop queen look like she’s headed to a ‘Star Trek’ convention (rather than an award ceremony recognizing her as a legendary artist). Not exactly a flattering or age-appropriate look for a 40-something mum, no matter how firm the pilates body. Definitely not her first or worst faux pas over her 20 plus year career thus far, but one that makes us wonder when the Material Girl will finally stow away her corset and panties from public view for the last time!

NY Fashion Week AW08: Willow by Kit Willow

The Willow by Kit Willow presentation was one of the last shows to be held in Bryant Park for Fashion Week AW08 (and my last show in the tents) so I did my best to take it all in. It’s been an exciting week! The Sydney-based designer created a beautiful collection of elegantly tailored separates and dresses for the young and modern woman. Fitted jackets, girly dresses and wide-leg pants defined her collection, but it was the absolutely hot thigh-high lace up boots featured with almost every look that had me hooked.

Uggs or Crocs or even Muks?

Last year controversial footwear came in the form of Uggs vs. Crocs. But what about Muks? Somehow these furry creations had a lucky escape and we cant seem to understand why. We have to admit in the past we’ve thought Muks were just as vulgar as Crocs and even some Uggs. But in desperate need of some warm and comfy boots we decided to give the Muks a chance. As we thought many of the styles were way to fussy for our liking however we did manage to find a simple pair that we’d actually dare to wear. The only problem is they look so soft and cute we reckon we’d spend half the time stroking them! $1295 available at

2007 Fashion Trends: 10 of the best!

Eclectic is the word that comes to mind when we think of the trends that hit us this year. Styles came and went at a frenzied pace, some we loved, some wouldn’t go away soon enough. It was also the year that designers took their collections mainstream, partnering with high street stores to democratise fashion. From high waist lines to ballet flats galore, 2007 fashion was quite timeless. Here’s a look at the best fashion trends in 2007! 10. High-Waist Lines We still get chills when we think of that dreaded Jessica Simpson photo (this look is not for everyone. But after we caught a glimpse of Eva Mendes sporting this saucy, high-waist pencil skirt, we wanted to try looking like a sexy pin-up girl too! 9. Christian Louboutin Heels Manolo who? After years of absolute domination thanks to our favourite show, SATC, we finally saw another designer, Christian Louboutin, steal the soles of celebrities everywhere making a little flash of a red from the bottom of your shoe an accessory and fashion statement in itself. For more advice on fashionable shoes, check out Shoe Adviser for the latest shoe reviews. 8. Ballet Flats Three cheers for a trend that gave our weary feet a rest! Ballet flats did away with their once orthopedic image, and became staples for on-the-go, jet-setting gals everywhere. Hopefully this fashion godsend will stick with us a little while longer. 7. Year-round Scarves No matter the temperature outside, leaving home without a scarf around the neck left us feeling a little bit exposed. Overwhelming celeb’s tiny frames, we couldn’t help but wonder if Hollywood starlets were trying to keep warm or shield themselves from the paparazzi. 6. Belt it out Creating girly silhouettes with belts of all shapes and sizes was all the rage this year. From wide, […]
