Milan Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Gucci, Alberta Ferretti, Versus Versace & more

Time to watch the unveiling of the autumn/winter 2014 trends from behind our computer screens, as London Fashion Week is well and truly over (sniff) and the fack pack has now flocked to Italy for Milan Fashion Week! Milan certainly doesn’t mess about, as it’s straight down to business on day 1 with collections from Gucci, Alberta Ferretti, Versus Versace and Fausto Puglisi. Gucci went in a little bit of a different direction this season, as Frida Giannini took inspiration from the boys – more specifically, the Gucci menswear collection – for the autumn/winter 2014 threads. She juxtaposed her most androgynous garments with the girliest of pieces for a versatile, retro collection.   Gone was the overt sexiness that we’ve come to know from the brand – especially if last season was anything to go by – and a softer, vintage collection was in its place. Soft pink oversized coats, geek chic glasses, slim fit trousers in a super-flattering silhouette, mod-inspired outerwear, the lot. Alberta Ferretti was influenced by nature for her latest collection, trees, leaves, and bird feathers all made an appearance on her new-season pieces.  It wasn’t all woodland inspired though, as typical Alberta embellishments, sequins and silhouettes were also present, making for another versatile and somewhat wholly wearable collection. Fausto Puglisi was clearly inspired by the Big Apple, as the Statue of Liberty made several appearances on t-shirts and jumpers alike. The designer presented a casual cool collection for the effortlessly chic and stylish Fausto Puglisi girl; fun, flirty, body confident girls with everything to live for! And then we had Donatella Versace’s efforts for the Versus Versace autumn/winter 2014 collection. Donatella’s influence was very much present in the entire collection, which you can see with the tight leather dress and leather biker jacket. Typical rock and roll […]

Rita Ora feels “like a bad b*tch” on DKNY front row

Rita Ora may have been a bag of nerves before walking down the DKNY spring/summer 2014 runway last season, but the singer had a far more comfortable view this time around, as she joined Victoria Justice and other celeb pals on the front row of the autumn/winter 2014 show instead. Even though she wasn’t walking down the runway,Rita still commanded a lot of attention in her getup, opting to wear a fun and flirty tartan dress, which she toughened up with a biker jacket with a very daring message on the back (FYI it says “when I wear DKNY I feel like a bad b*tch”) flung over her shoulders and some seriously sexy strappy black heels. Matching red polish on her toes and bold red lippie completed her provocative look! Definitely one of our favourite front row spottings on the New York Fashion Week front row so far; what do you guys think?

Trend alert: Grunge!

If you paid attention to some of the biggest spring/summer 2014 catwalk shows, then you’ll already know that grunge is making a huge comeback for the new season. Hedi Slimane was all about grunge and rock ‘n’ roll for the Saint Laurent spring/summer 2014 show, and Marc Jacobs also went dark and alternative for his final Louis Vuitton collection. (A great way to bow out, don’t you think?) So, with two of the biggest fashion players championing the trend, we have every reason to get behind it too! We’ve already seen the celebs try their hand at the grunge trend by incorporating certain aspects into their red carpet outfits and as they go about their everyday lives, and now you can get in on the trend too with these very basic items. 1. Our top pick for going grunge is a leather jacket. Nothing says attitude better than a fierce bit of leather draped across your shoulders, and this Christopher Kane jacket is the perfect hue to wear over the rest of your black clothes and accessories. Christopher Kane cracked leather biker jacket, £2,490 £871.50 2. Make your eyes stand out by lining them with the darkest and boldest hue of black eyeliner you can find. Yves Saint Laurent black eyeliner, £24 3. A great thing about the grunge trend is being able to wear flats; black leather boots will not only convey attitude, but you’ll be super warm and comfy in the process too. You can be bad-ass without putting your feet through hell, too! Dune Black leather biker boots, £195 4. The more studs and spikes in your accessories, the better! This clutch bag pretty much has it all, doesn’t it? Pierre Balmain studded clutch, £593.91 £386.04 5. A band tee is the final step to completing your […]

High fashion on the high street: How to stay ahead of the trends the affordable way

We all know how difficult it is to stay ahead of the trends or be adorned in the latest must-haves without breaking the bank. Of course that Peter Pilotto coat is on our wish list as are those Balenciaga boots but trust me, you don’t need them. I’ve put together a high street wish list to ensure you’ll be wearing those key trends next winter without having to remortgage your house or sell the whole contents of yours (and your mums’) wardrobe. You’re welcome. Trend number one – high-shine leather All the designers are doing it! Jonathan Saunders, Richard Nicoll and even Roksanda Ilincic. Glossy items are most definitely going to hail next winter but don’t worry, if you’re more of a simple kind of girl, there are ways to incorporate this trend with subtlety. No honestly there are! Instead of statement outerwear pieces, why not try a high-shine tee or cropped top in a nude colour, which is also going to be big next season. And if that even sounds scary, stay true to your style and at least ensure you bring out those leather look skinnies you have lying around your wardrobe already. So let me show you the easiest and simplest way to incorporate this look into your wardrobe. These are a few of my top buys: ASOS Leather Look High Shine Skinny Trouser (what a mouthful!) ASOS Leather Look High Shine Biker Jacket ASOS Fashion Finder Wet Look High Neck Crop Top Trend number two – Monochrome This is probably one of the easiest trends to adapt, as let’s face it, all girls have black and white lying around in their wardrobes in some shape or form. Right? Right. But what’s the newest point to take away from the catwalks is to wear head-to-toe monochrome and […]

Plus the stud detailing gives it that something extra special! Pink button back knitted jumper Not a cardi – this is indeed a jumper with button detailing on the back. Pretty cool, right? Pre-Oscars, people might have thought you’d got dressed in the dark, but now that Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway rocked the backwards necklace at the Academy Awards, backwards is in fact the new forwards. Will Gatsby gear be the film-fash inspiration of the year?

[noskim] Film releases and fashion trends go hand in hand. Last year, the Hunger Games – and Jennifer Lawrence – gave brown leather jackets and flat boots a boost when black biker jackets and heels ruled the roost. This year, we’re spending plenty of time pondering where our next film-fash inspo might be coming from. One fairly safe bet is Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, which is due for release in May. Baz loves a bit of bling in the costume department – remember Nicole Kidman in that sparkly corset and top hat combo in Moulin Rouge? So, when you take into account Luhrman’s love of the lavish coupled with the seriously stylish Ivy League leavers the film follows and throw into the mix the fact everything takes place at the start of the roaring twenties – you should get film-fash gold. Yes, we are already getting in a bit of a Gatsby flap. After convincing us we could pull off a crop, Carey Mulligan – as Daisy Buchanan – is now set to start a scarf revival. Luckily she’s teaming it with a sleek, blonde, bob – a style more than a handful of us already fancied for summer. Style yourself in Ms Daisy’s footsteps and choose classy kimonos and trousers, dresses embellished with lace and sequins, feathers and heavenly headwear. Of course, you don’t need to be as full-on as Ms Daisy. We like this Alice By Temperley lace number. It’s a little shorter than 20s styles but the embroidered décolletage and mesh sleeves make it classy and easy to wear and it’s not quite as in your-face bling as some of the sequin dresses in the movie, which might not be quite so wearable. You could wear this with kitten heels or even bring it up to […]

Five minutes with Isabella Oliver’s Baukjen de Swaan Arons

Founder and Creative Director of Isabella Oliver and the fashion brand Baukjen, Baujken Swaan Arons set up her company in 2003 out of sheer frustration, caused by the lack of stylish maternity wear available on the market. Nearly a decade later, and with a cult celebrity following, Isabella Oliver is bigger than ever and every discerning fashionista’s go-to name for comfortable and stylish pieces. My Fashion Life caught up with Baukjen to talk party season style, fashionable mums and wardrobe staples. Your womenswear brand was called Isabella Oliver 365 before being reintroduced as Baukjen. Tell us what inspired this change in name? Originally, our womenswear collection evolved from the Isabella Oliver maternity line. It grew so much faster than we’d ever imagined and we felt it needed its own space to live and breathe. Separating the brands gives them both the space to grow to their full potential. Name three wardrobe staples you cannot live without. A leather biker jacket is an essential and a modern classic; our Agyness Leather Jacket has jersey inserts so its gives a great fit. I wear it over day looks but also over more dressy evening outfits. Black ankle boots work with everything – leather leggings, jersey dresses, jeans and t-shirts – I’m constantly wearing mine. I love stripes and this season I’m wearing them in jersey. Our caramel and black striped dress is great for quick and easy everyday style. I wear it over leggings, ankle boots and pop the black Maryna Blazer over it and add long necklaces. Isabella Oliver Maternity was set up to provide stylish pieces for expectant mums; what experiences led you to specifically choose this market? When I was pregnant with my first child it was very difficult to find stylish maternity wear that reflected my usual style. […]

Be loud and proud in this season’s hottest statement earrings!

Consider yourself the Anna Dello Russo of accessories? If so, those ears are in for a treat – and no, we’re not referring to ADR crooning Fashion Shower at the top of her vocal range! 3 key high street black leather buys

Fash fanatics will be well informed that leather was the order of the season for autumn/winter’12. A sexed up guise took form for Fall as black leather made an appearance in glossy, patent and belted versions. Designers such as Valentino took the trend up a few notches by offering our leather hungry eyes the pleasure of viewing sleek, all-leather gowns, forcing us to rethink traditional evening wear choices. From the high-sheen, super desirable, oversized black leather jackets seen at Alexander Wang, to the leather-clad romantic Goth witnessed at Givenchy; leather is set to be far from a predictable new season statement maker. But for those fretting about the three figure prices for these high end designer garbs, have no fear! We’ve rounded up three of the best new season high street leather buys to update your wardrobe in a pocket-friendly flash! The leather biker jacket is a perennially cool must-have every style maven should own.  But this season we’re not talking about conventional biker, no. We’re opting to oversize (another major trend) and wearing ours slouchy over a plaid trouser and loose tee. Oversized leather biker jacket, £200, available at Topshop Ankle boots are the shoe-cessory of the season, and nothing beats a trusty leather version! The berry-hued Chelsea boot inserts are a perfect way to update a classic. KG Susie boots, £160, available at Kurt Geiger It’s the LBD reimagined! London Fashion Week SS13: Day 5

Yep, it’s the final day of London Fashion Week (sniff), and as the old saying goes, some of the best shows were saved til last… especially when referring to the Mulberry show that kicked off at 10am this morning! Those of you following us on Twitter will have already seen a few cheeky pictures that we took of the collection, the celebs, the gnomes (yes, there were gnomes), the complimentary rainbow cakes and even an adorable Mulberry-clad dog we met in the queue called Berry! However, now it’s time to get up close and a little more personal with the collection, as we’ve selected a few of our stand-out looks for you to gaze at below. We also attended the Ashish show this afternoon, which we thought was a perfect ending to a wonderful spring/summer 2013 season in London. Who: Mulberry What: Rainbows, watercolours – an “English summer” at its best. There was a bit of a mix on the Mulberry catwalk this season; we had a feeling we were going to get a colourful collection from the paint set invite, but it was a tasteful, refreshing bit of colour as opposed to something more wild and overbearing like in some of the collections we’ve seen this LFW. (That’s not to say we didn’t like them, au contraire we love a good burst of colour, but we love Emma Hill’s balance.) There was an abundance of leather in the collection, as well as relaxed shapes and silhouettes – perfect for summer! We saw new visions for the classic Alexa and Del Rey bags, and Mulberry also launched the Willow collection, which we’ll tell you more about at a later date. Highlight: We had the Mulberry Monster last season, and while we don’t think anything will top him, the little – […]

3 ways to style the blazer

The blazer: a trusty wardrobe dweller and, probably the upper-body sibling of jeans – only because you wear it so much – is the in-between alterative to sweating it out in a coat, or being swallowed up by an unsightly jacket. A good blazer will work wonders for any ensemble, transcending effortlessly between off-duty and office and, like a biker jacket, instantly adding an easy edge to any outfit. That’s why it’s key to invest in one that ticks all the right boxes: good, structured fit; quality fabric and teetering on exciting, rather than Excel-spreadsheet-spouting secretary! We love the Fruma Tux One Button Blazer by Theyskens’ Theory, for its perfect fit, flattering details and quirks such as the signature cut-out section to the back of the neck. Perfect for sipping cocktails in, hosting a power meeting in, or throwing over your favourite off-duty t-shirt and jeans combo – here’s how we’re wearing it. Fruma Tux One Button Blazer by Theyskens’ Theory, £485; Peppermint Lola Library Gather Back Dress by Goat, £395; Floral Crystal Embellished Necklace by Anton Heunis, £329; Kurt Geiger Eden stilettos, £150 Blazer (as above); Cropped Pencil Trousers by 3.1 Phillip Lim, £345; Lazer-Cut Flower T-Shirt by Markus Lupfer, £189; Chunky Gold Chain With Crystal Embellishment Bracelet by Anton Heunis, £130; Alexander McQueen Punk Spine Skull leather clutch, £895 Blazer (as above); Kahlo Net T-shirt, £40; Northern Stars Printed Stiletto Skinny Jeans by CURRENT/ELLIOT, £239; Henrietta Leopard Pony Hair Ballet Pumps by French Sole, £123

Five minutes with Julien Macdonald

To coincide with our exclusive preview of the Debenhams Life Made Fabulous TV commercial that we showed you earlier today, we thought it might be a nice idea to grab five cheeky minutes with one of the main stars of the campaign… the one and only Mr Julien Macdonald. Julien chatted to us about why he got involved with the Life Made Fabulous campaign, as well as his own personal style, what trends he thinks we should be all over for the autumn/winter season, and even what to look forward to in the current and very addictive series of Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model.  This is the third time you’ve been involved in the Debenhams Life Made Fabulous campaign, but what made you want to do it initially? I think that everybody has a dream of how designers are and it’s very rare that the public actually gets to see them in their working environment so it just brings back the message about the whole velocity and why I work with Debenhams. See, fashion can be fabulous and fashion can be affordable to everybody and it doesn’t matter who you are and where you come from. It proves to everybody that you’re behind the product, and you do design the clothes and you are there and you are involved with the brand. So each designer selected a hero piece to showcase in the advert and you chose a gorgeous little lace dress from the Star by Julien Macdonald range… what made you pick that over the others? Well I wanted to pick one of the pieces which I felt depicted the Star by Julien Macdonald woman and it’s a dress I can see all my fans wearing, so I just wanted one that empowered women and made women look […]

Five Minutes with designer Thuy Duong Nguyen

With an acute ability to effortlessly blend cultures, it’s no surprise Vietnam-born, Germany-based designer Thuy Duong Nguyen’s fantastic brand, Thu Thu, is clocking up space in international glossies and the wardrobes of the fashion elite. Incorporating stunning Vietnamese embroideries, hand-crafted by women of the Hmong ethnic group from Sapa, a mountainous region in North Vietnam, into western silhouettes; Thu Thu brings an artisanal touch to a contemporary wardrobe. My Fashion Life caught up with the hotly-talked-about designer to discuss wardrobe staples, dream celebrities and the comfort vs. fashion dichotomy. What was the inspiration behind your spring/summer 2012 collection? A candy jar of colourful sweets. If you hadn’t become a fashion designer, what would you be? I always wanted to be a singer until I went to Germany’s biggest TV casting show when I was 16 years old. (Wow, that’s actually something that I’ve kept secret for years!). I obviously didn’t get through, so that took all my teenage hope of becoming a famous pop star! But if I think about it now, I guess I would have probably done something botanic or food related because I love exploring plants and trees. I also love good food, so maybe running a restaurant would have been a great alternative to fashion, but that might even be an option for the future. What are your wardrobe staples? I have two pairs of jeans that I always wear, a couple of loose cut t-shirts and some fancy embroidered vintage cardigans. The rest of my wardrobe is mostly filled with THU THU pieces. Who is your favourite designer and why? I don’t have a specific one, but I do like Chloé, Isabel Marant and Dries van Noten a lot. All three are very contemporary, but sophisticated and classic. Heels or flats? Why? Definitely heels as […]

Katy Perry: An emotional, post-Russell transformation

Many of us can sympathise with the excruciating emotional pain Katy Perry has endured in the past few weeks. A messy divorce; unashamedly womanising ex-husband who deems it perfectly fine to return to his waywardly amorous ways so soon after playing the ’Love’ game, and a hugely successful music career are really not the easiest to balance. But Katy has managed to project a steely persona; one that gives nothing away but beneath the surface, a storm is brewing. Her nearest and dearest have come to her rescue, encouraging her to see other men post- Russell Brand, and even Elton John dedicated a ‘singles table’ to Katy and a whole host of other love-starved stars. But who better to understand what Katy is going through than Rihanna; whom Katy is a success replica of and, Rihanna, too has tasted the sour fruits of a tumultuous, ill-fated relationship with violent ex Chris Brown. Although the best pals’ circumstances vary greatly, there is an eerie coincidence between their post break-up appearances and behaviour. After splitting from Chris Brown, Rihanna adopted a harsher, angrier and darker tone, which was evident through the music she produced. Rated R was her fourth album, and her first after her horrific ordeal; featuring tracks such as Te Amo, Hard and the deeply dark Russian Roulette. Similarly, Katy Perry revealed in her latest interview with Interview magazine ‘my music is about to get real f****** dark, so . . .’ which hints towards following in the footsteps of best celeb friend, RiRi. Photographed for Interview in a sexy studded, sequinned bra, long, black gloves and chandelier earrings, and surrounded by a host of burlesque dancers in very little; Katy is unrecognisable in this new, smokier guise. Her outfits, although already eccentric, are turning raunchier and slightly more rebellious, […]

A day in the life of our editor

Two weeks ago, when we attended Diesel and Grazia’s reader event to celebrate the brand’s official relaunch for pre-SS12, we hand-picked (from a hat, natch) a name. That name would get to accompany our editor, Emily, for a day to get a glimpse into the sometimes-glamorous but often-frantic life of a fashion editor. That name was Omena Ukeleghe. She was our winner. And here’s her story… The day started with a press lunch at the Bicester Village’s VIP suite, where Emily and I met the PR and marketing team from Bicester Village. They had laid on a truly scrumptious lunch, and as part of a VIP press pack, we were given a generous £50 card and 10% discount. After lunch, we went to burn some cash at the numerous high street and designer label outlet stores at the Village where, thanks to the additional £50 gift card and discount, I bought myself a gorgeous pair of emerald green heels (I’m a sucker for a lovely pair of heels). I also bought a jumper – a practical purchase, I know, but ’tis season to wrap up warm. A hop and a skip on the train back to London and we were whizzed away in a car to my first pampering session in preparation for the evening’s event. First port of call was Tommy Guns for my hair and then onto the Powder Puff girls to get my make up and nails done. They did a fantastic job! The final port of call before our big event was the Diesel store on Carnaby Street to pick out my outfit for the night ahead. With £250 to spend at the store (thanks Diesel!), I went for a pair of Jegonfire super slim denim leggings that made my legs look so hot they would […]

Leigh Lezark proves black is the new black

Listen, we’ve admired Leigh Lezark’s style from afar for a while now, and yet her mysteriously gothic ensembles never fail to impress.  The raven-haired 27-year-old model looked effortlessly cool whilst out and about in downtown Manhattan last week. We don’t know if it’s the influence of Halloween, but we have major love for black lace at the moment and Leigh really carries the look off with aplomb. Her darkly decadent knee-length dress was paired with a pair of practical opaque tights – this girl knows how to dress for the cold – and by adding a failsafe black leather biker jacket and a pair of round-toed heeled pumps, Miss Lezark looked stylish, coordinated and insouciant. While many may argue black is a bit of a cop out colour, Leigh definitely proves there’s sleekness on the dark side yet. And, of course, as a brand ambassador of Chanel, she wouldn’t be seen without her 2.55 arm candy. In black, naturally. [poll id=”228″]

First look: Topshop spring/summer 2012

It’s a strange concept that, when upping the heating by a few degrees and being stalked by dull skies, we should be thinking about spring, but alas, fashion is nothing if not far-out at times. And so it was that yesterday we were transported to far sunnier climes when we popped into Topshop’s press day to see what’s in store next season – and as the high street store presented its first stand-alone presentation (without the rest of the Arcadia group), temps were soaring to say the least. Split into four sections – festival, metallic luxe, tropical and scuba – you can expect to be wearing the following next season: candyfloss colours with ombre effects, cropped pastel knits, delicate lace dresses (often in acid shades), slathers of metallic silver, tropical prints and scuba details. Highlights include a cream chiffon maxi dress decorated with pink embroidery, a nude patent biker jacket that screams tough Upper East girl, ombre shades on silk trousers and a lightweight blazer, a shiny silver leather mac fit for a flight to the moon, an Eighties-bright tropical print blouse and an Erdem-esque floral printed silk top. Shoes, both heels and sandals, get the silver touch too, but the most impressive piece, perhaps, was Mary Katrantzou’s limited edition dress. As close to the designer’s mainline as it could possibly get, her signature prints and structured shapes have been translated across a 14 piece capsule collection set to hit stores next February. So far a colourful contrast print puff-ball dress is the only glimpse we’ve been given, but you can take our word that it’s likely to become Topshop’s most successful designer collaboration to date. We’re only allowed to share five images of Topshop’s new collection, so, naturally, we’ve tried to pack as many pieces into those pictures as […]

Get the look: Rihanna’s chic transitional triumph

Thanks to Rihanna’s tour, we’ve had the company of the 20-year-old Barbadian for the past month or so now in Britain, and you know, we’re starting to get used to it. Ri-Ri was spotted on another night out in London looking suitably stunning (as per) last week. Taking a trip to Stringfellows, she chose to wear a chocolate brown biker jacket paired with one of the must-have accessories of the season: a sumptuous fur stole. Her dark blue skin-tight jeans and black leather ankle boots finished off the look with aplomb. We love Rihanna’s laid-back take on luxe, and it’s seriously inspiring us for the current windy weather. Here’s how you can recreate her look with a few simple pieces… This beautiful brown biker jacket from 3.1 Phillip Lim might be pricey, but it’s a fantastic investment. With it’s achingly cool zips and buckles, we guarantee you’ll never look at another leather again. 3.1 Philip Lim Cognac Motorcycle Leather Jacket, £920, available at my-wardrobe. Tippets, stoles, call them what you will – a fur collar will see you through winter when worn with jackets, coats and jumpers. We love this purse-friendly option from Oasis. Faux Fur Tippet, £20, available at Oasis. Rihanna’s a big fan of J Brand, and so will you be if you try these inky blue cigarette jeans. J Brand Cigarette Leg Jeans, £190, available at Matches. These leg-lengthening lace-up ankle boots complete the look perfectly. Sam Edelman Black Uma Lace Up High Heel Ankle Boots, £217, available at my-wardrobe.

Lunchtime buy: Oasis star print midi dress

We all remember the abundance of starry chiffon that floated down the Dolce and Gabbana AW11 runway, and Oasis was obviously inspired by such celestial visions with its star print midi dress. With an extremely flattering gathered waist, floaty full length sleeves and a cute pussy bow neckline, this dress will surely make us shine at night on dance floors all over the galaxy. We’ll be channelling the Dolce girls by teaming it with a smoky eye and sleek, pulled-back starlet hair. And for something a little more casual? Team it with a large floppy hat and a pair of black suede boots for some Seventies glamour on an autumnal day, or throw on a black biker jacket and a slick of scarlet lipstick. At the very decent price of £30 down from £65 in the sale, there’s never been more of an excuse to look like a star. Oasis star print midi dress, £30, available at Oasis.

Get the Look: Emma Watson in McQ

Emma Watson looked super-cool when she rocked up at the 2011 GQ Men of the Year Awards recently. While many of her contemporaries often look much older than their years at red carpet events, the 21-year-old looked fresh, young and carefree. We like – a lot. Her flirty Alexander McQueen tartan mini dress and leather biker jacket combo went down a storm and was the perfect outfit for the occasion. She finished the look with a pair of studded Christian Louboutin Pigalle heels, slicked back hair and minimal makeup. If you loved Emma’s punky look, good news – with a few key pieces, your inner rock chick can come out to play. Try a dress with a flared-out skirt for ultimate fashion kudos. We suggest going all out with this drop-dead-gorgeous Vivienne Westwood Anglomania dress for a flirtier edge. Vivienne Westwood Anglomania Pink Marghi Dress, £365, available at my-wardrobe.com.   Of course, this look would be nothing without a trusty biker jacket. This new-season design from Vince will last you year after year – we love its quilted accents. Leather biker jacket, £165, available at Oasis.   These Sam Edelman heels might not be Louboutins but they are simply magnificent none the less: Sam Edelman Black Lorissa Studded Heels, £182, available at my-wardrobe.

Emma Watson rocks the red carpet in McQ

Good grief, Miss Watson! You are forever astounding us with your edgy style and clever fashion choices to rock on that slip of red carpet (and in fact, this little tartan number actually matches it). The actress was snapped wearing a tartan puffball dress from McQ’s autumn/winter 2011 collection at the GQ Man of the Year Awards at The Royal Opera House in London last night. On top of that (quite literally), Emma wore an edgy black biker jacket with matching pointed spiked stilettos by Christian Louboutin. Frankly, it’s a great choice for the 19-year-old: not only is tartan the fabric for next season, by teaming it with her leather biker Watson works a rock-chic edge that we haven’t seen for a while. Her slick boyish cut (ripe for next season’s androgyny), minimal jewellery and bare legs let the striking McQ piece do all the talking – the way it should be with a dress like that – but we want to know what you think. How we wear Isabella Oliver

If you remember my confession last week of an unquenchable craving for classic pieces, you’ll remember I said it was a prelude to a guest blog I’d written for Isabella Oliver. Well, that post is now live on their website, so I figure it’s only right to share it with you. It shouldn’t be hard picking my favourite pieces from a retailer who shares the same style philosophies as me – classic, elegant, timeless and practical – but my indecisive nature gets the better of me at the best of times, let alone when I’m pronouncing how to style a store’s staples. Still, that urge for something that’ll stand the test of time prevailed. See below for my top picks from Isabella Oliver and my favourite pieces to style alongside them…   Look 1: relaxed evening Breton jumper dress, £95, available at Isabella Oliver; classic trench, £239, available at Isabella Oliver; Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony Mary Ellen platform boots, £455, available at Browns (I may be 5 ft 11, but I can’t resist the charm of massive chunky boot); Mini ric rac bag, £79.20, available at Jaeger.   Look 2: downtown cool Breton jumper dress, £95, available at Isabella Oliver; everyday biker jacket, £369, available at Isabella Oliver; Superga white plimsolls, £40, available at my-wardrobe.com; Mini ric rac bag, £79.20, available at Jaeger. Forever 21 turns boho-chic (among other things) for autumn

Want to know what’s in store from Forever 21 next season? We took a look around its Soho showspace to catch a sneak peek at its brilliant boho-inspired collection for autumn/winter 2011. But the American fashion label wasn’t content with just one theme, it’s thrown in an ecclectic mix of high class collections and glam grunge pieces into the mix, too, giving customers a suitably varied choice for next season’s wardrobe. So with plenty of nordic maxi-dresses, sheer black lace skirts, pleather biker jackets, leopard print corsets, tie-dye sweaters, denim roll-up shirts, crochet ponchos, suede tassled waistcoats and peacock feathered earrings to choose from – not to mention a pair of need-them-now leopard print wedges – the fast fashion chain has something for every trend-setter out there. Flick through our gallery below to see what’s in store… [nggallery id=31]

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is relaxed in leather

As a Victoria’s Secret angel, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley probably never has an off day. But, rather irritatingly, her beauty doesn’t stop at her physical attributes – the girl also really knows how to dress. Spotted out shopping over the weekend with boyfriend Jason Statham, Rosie wore chic cropped jeans with flats and a loose fit tee with a large black tote. But it’s the leather jacket that has us drooling. A light-coloured biker jacket is the hottest cover-up of the season and, as Rosie has expertly demonstrated, can transform an otherwise nondescript outfit. Accessorising with oversized sunglasses and a sexy action hero boyfriend completes the look perfectly. Now where can we get one of those? [poll id=”63″]

Editor’s diary: what I’m wearing day 3

Wow, what a busy few days it’s been. Apologies for the lack of sartorial snaps, day 2 was particularly busy with the likes of Georgia Hardinge, Jaeger, John Rocha and Bryce Aime to juggle in the rain, so no time to take a picture of what I was wearing unfortunately (a blush organza applique dress, cropped biker jacket and my Preen Edition trench, if you must know). But here’s what I wore yesterday (day three) before the Mulberry party – a silk rust shirt dress layered over a vintage denim shirt, Office cork heels and my new must-wear velvet fox mask, courtesy of Mulberry, naturally. Today I’m particularly casual – too many hours spent in 4-inch heels yesterday has caused quite the foot ache – but will update you on what I’m wearing tomorrow when I’m off to meet Anna Wintour for a press briefing on the Met’s upcoming McQueen exhibition. Yep, you read that right. I’ll be back to fill you in tomorrow. In the meantime, stay tuned for all the gossip from last night’s Mulberry party…

London Fashion Week AW11: Fulguni & Shane Peacock

Who: Fulguni & Shane Peacock What: Glam-goth, bondage tendancies, leather and decadent gold embellishment Thoughts: The party week really got started at the Fulguni & Shane Peacock autumn/winter show, where punk rockers and gothics alike were taken out clubbing to grind to dirty house. Bondage elements were carried over from last season’s collection, with prominent leather piping and biker jackets with leafy gold embellishment taking centre stage. Craftsmanship was rife in all of the garments – red and black graphic prints were layered with both crochet and mesh, creating a messy yet uncomplicated feel. Models conveyed an edgy and angst-ridden demeanour and, adorned in ripped fishnets, metal spike bracelets and towering domed platforms, they looked every bit the provocative part. Appliqués, rivets and sequins brought fitting mini dresses to life and the use of the odd feather helped retain a slice of the sweet. Favourites would have to be a billowing teal blue mullet dress complete with body con upper sparkle; a nude voluminous gown with textured gathering, structural shoulder and hip add-ons and an elegant mesh trail; and the devilish soft jumpsuit, hardened by a splash of metallic baroque. Atmospheric excitement resonated at the end of yesterday’s show with a crowd left ready to take on the world sporting kinky knee high leather boots and saucy red eye shadow.
