Lusting after the Tila March Audrey leather tote

All eyes are definitely on this yummy mummy right now! Having just returned from holidaying in sun-splashed St Barts with husband Jay-Z and her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, Beyoncé was spotted getting back to business in New York rather stylishly. Alongside her other, cosily wrapped and super-adorable accessory, Beyoncé sported a luxurious leather Tila March Audrey tote everyone at My Fashion Life HQ has got their peepers on! The Love On Top singer chose the tote in Mocca and teamed it with striking cat-eye sunnies, new bangs and ‘I’m boss’ heels. So, what can we offer in the way of praise for this new piece of arm candy that’ll ensure it’s on your arm quicker that you can sing ‘Run The World’?  Apart from the biggest music star on the planet approving, this large leather tote in a neutral hue lends to a relaxed city chic feel with an athletic twist, thanks to the panel of perforated leather. The main compartment isn’t like most totes, an open gaping hole for the world to peek at the secret contents of your bag, but instead has an invisible magnet to keep it firmly closed. The Audrey’s interior is roomy and practical, with a mobile phone pocket and zipped compartment, and, this niftily spacious number is happy sitting on your shoulder , arm or in your hand. It’s not often we see mega-celebs with practical bags, but now that Mummy Bey has more than just her lipstick and iPad to carry around, the Audrey tote seems like the perfect option. Snap up your very own piece of Beyoncé style by bagging the Audrey Tote, £452, at tilamarch.com

Solange Style Edit: The Other stylish sibling

Forever mesmerised by older sister Beyonce’s otherworldly vocals, electric concerts and extravagant ninety-minute Oxford Street spending sprees, its high time we sat up and took notice of the waves younger sister Solange is making. Already a fashion frontrunner, FROW-ing at major international fashion shows and a super-successful DJ; Solange is clearly not one to live in her sister’s shadow. A frequenter on our best dressed radar; we’re not too interested in her rather impressive afro, or her sibling squabbles with mega star sister Bey over who looks the best in Louboutin’s latest offerings (yes, even super famous siblings argue!), but more her quirky take on fashion and how she always turns out looking incredibly stylish and unpredictably fresh. In honour of Solange’s delicious wardrobe and knack for pairing together the most unpredictable of fashion trends to make them look like they were meant to be, we’ve selected the best finds to achieve her style. Although, we can’t offer a superstar, mega rich sister or brother-in-law in our style edit, we can promise an enviable wardrobe that may just end up scoring you a FROW ticket. Solange Knowles signs to Next Model Management

Beyonce isn’t the only Knowles girl the world is currently obsessed with. Queen Bey’s younger sister Solange Knowles – a musician, model and actress in her own right – has just been snapped up by Next Model Management, the same people who signed up and coming indie singer Lana Del Rey a couple of weeks ago.

Best of 2011: best dressed celebs

It’s getting towards the end of the year and we’ve been overcome by a sudden sense of contemplativeness.  While New Year might bring resolutions, diets and silly foil hats, there’s something it also brings that we’re not ashamed to love – yes, best of lists! Here at MFL we like a yearly round up just much as the next publication, but ours is, like, so much more fun because it involves clothes and celebrities. What’s not to love? We took a look through the year’s celebrity style hits to sift out the best from the average. So, fasten your seatbelt, kids, here’s our run through of this year’s best dressed… Alexa Chung in Miu Miu Looking like a grown up school girl, we loved Alexa Chung’s Miu Miu ensemble at the label’s spring/summer 2012 show in Paris earlier this year – no wonder she scooped the Style Icon Award for a second year running! Jessica Alba in Dolce & Gabbana Jessica Alba rarely puts a foot out of place and looks so pretty at a Swarovski party in California. Her lace Dolce & Gabbana dress combined with lashings of gems reminded us why we love Jess so much. Nicole Richie in Stella McCartney Kick starting us into the festive mood this year, style queen Nicole Richie wowed us in her Stella McCartney poppy red skirt and sweater combo. Known for her laid-back boho style, she gave us a ladylike look we hadn’t seen from her in a long while. Selena Gomez in Marchesa Ladies and Gentlemen, the MFL award for Best Newcomer goes to 19-year-old Selena Gomez. Wearing this angelic Marchesa dress, she somehow looked girly and feminine whilst maintaining an air of sophistication. We predict big things! Olivia Palermo in Tibi Queen of accessorising, no best dressed is complete […]

Kelly Rowland flashes a little too much leaving the X Factor studios

Kelly, Kelly, Kelly! we love you on X Factor and your overtly American turn of phrase. We also love the way you big up the Sisterhood as Beyoncé’s best friend, but we certainly don’t love this dress. Leaving the X Factor studios last night and fresh from filming the live eviction, Kelly chose to exit the building in this revealing pink dress. While we love the colour, which works wonderfully with Kelly’s skin tone, the slit opening at the front turns it from classy to cheap. It’s fine to reveal a peek of lingerie now and again, girl, but flashing nearly all of your bra is a faux pas by anybody’s standards. That being said, you do go some way to redeem yourself with those show-stopping diamond earrings and shiny superstar hairdo. You’re still our favourite judge, Kel, but in the future please leave those outlandishly revealing outfits to the contestants. [poll id=”219″]

To boob boost or not to boob boost?

Looking down at my excuse-for-a-woman’s-pride of a chest, I feel particularly apologetic about my lack of wholesomeness.  The very assets that are the pinnacle of womanhood; the prominent markers of motherhood – as they expand rather noticeably in size and appear as if waiting to burst – are missing from my upper torso, replaced by a mid-priced ‘boob boosting’ bra and a lame late developer excuse. I envision a sign: ‘BOOB JOB’ complete with surrounding flashing bulbs. But wait. Formerly from a legal background, where there’s a wrong, I’ll be vying to rectify it but in the case of cosmetic surgery and in particular breast augmentation, I’m a bit of a backseat taker. If presented with the opportunity, I’d ponder and pedantically deliberate over the ifs and buts and the possible side effects of having two gigantic silicone slabs stuffed into my chest area; but that’s not to say it’s a bad idea, or an aesthetically unsound one. Just like veneers to an unsightly smile or pinning back prominent ears, the confidence boost breast augmentation provides – albeit on a more intimate level – is immense. For me, gargantuan. But as with most transformations, there exists polarised preferences. Drastic cup size increases as witnessed in the form of bewildered bosom owner Chloe from TOWIE, a mismatch of botched cosmetic enhancements including a pair of recently rectified veneers, or yo-yo cosmetic surgery addict Katie Price who underwent extreme augmentation during her glamour heydays, carrying a painfully hefty 32FF pair, only to downsize to a more natural looking 32D in 2007. Enter a rather swell-looking Heidi Montag, too, after The Hills star became bosom pals with the plastic surgeon’s scalpel (pardon the pun) and decided to envision an ‘upgraded version’ of herself by taking her A cups to a 32C. But depending […]

15 things we love from New York Fashion Week

After a week of shows, New York Fashion Week is winding down to a close. MTV VMAs 2011: best and worst dressed

In case you hadn’t noticed, MTV had a little awards party on Sunday. Yes, the 2011 VMAs took place over the weekend, and though it’s unlikely anyone can trump Beyonce’s baby news with something more exciting, we’re still having fun casting our eagle eye over the sartorial hits and misses today. And whether it’s Beyonce clutching her baby bump in glowing orange Lanvin, Katy Perry coming as a cake (again) or Lady Gaga dressing as a man, there’s quite the assortment. From the floor-sweeping gowns that graced the red carpet with aplomb to the what-were-you-thinking disasters that filled us with dread, take a look at our pick of the best and worst dressed from Sunday night’s ceremony (and yes, this does come with a warning). Hollywood latches onto Kate Middleton’s love affair with the high street

If it’s good enough for Kate Middleton, it’s good enough for Hollywood. Kate may be a serial sartorial offender, recycling her outfits and championing the high street when she’s the future queen; it now appears Hollywood’s top girls want in on the action, too. Succumbing to the high street bargain bait, Zoe Saldana, Emmy Rossum and Amanda Seyfried were all spotted sporting a striped $50 dress by Express. The nautical-inspired thigh-skimming dress seems a perfect companion for the scorching temperatures those across the pond are luckily basking in, and seeing Hollywood’s elite heralding the high street good enough is refreshing. Beyonce’s recent Topshop splurge – £5,000 in under an hour, if we’re talking figures – speaks volumes about the faith the showbiz elite has in the humble high street retailer.  It isn’t feasible for a mere aspiring mortal to even begin to dream about owning 25 pairs of Louboutin heels – another wallet-emptying goodwill gesture from Beyonce, for younger sister Solange – but turning the page of a magazine, or surfing the internet to see high-profilers in ‘normal’ clothes we all have access to is positive – both personally and economically. Kate Middleton has played a huge part in bringing to the fore, esteemed high street brands Zara and Reiss. Seeing Kate in high street wares has allowed women to view the said high street stores with a new perspective: suddenly, a dress from Zara is good enough to wear to a wedding. The Something Borrowed star, Ginnifer Goodwin, delivered a solid seal of high street approval, when she wore a custom Topshop Unique green silk twist front gown to the 2011 Met Gala – the fashion calendar’s most coveted event. All Hail the high street. Need we say more?

Beachwear for your body shape: Pear

So we’ve covered the apple and rectangle body shapes. Now on to the pear. Pear-shaped girls should try and draw attention to their top half. Bikinis with plain bottoms and patterned tops are ideal. It may be worth buying bikini tops and bottoms separately if you unable to find a set.  Alternatively, asymmetric swimming costumes work well to draw attention away from bottom halves and draw the eye upwards. Here are our top picks… 1. Adidas by Stella McCartney Palm Print Bikini, £70 £45, available at Mytheresa. 2. Bossamare One-shoulder Swimsuit, £113 £56, available at My-wardrobe. 3. This Juicy Couture ring is a stunning cocktail piece that’s sure to get as many oohs and ahhs as Kate Middleton’s did (well, ok, maybe one less). Met Ball 2011: best dressed

We’ve just about recovered from the excitement of the Royal wedding with its vast array of stylish guests and, of course, Kate Middleton’s breathtakingly beautiful McQueen gown – but the weekend hit us with more star-studded events as the Met Costume Institute Gala landed in New York last night. The Met Ball brings the best of the fashion, film and music industry together for a night of fabulous fashion and exhibitions, and this year’s gala was hosted by none other than Vogue editor Anna Wintour, who honoured the late Alexander McQueen with an exhibition called Savage Beauty. Naturally, the prestigious event is harder to get into than Wonka’s chocolate factory, so we’ve cast our sartorial eye over the fashion elite who bagged a Golden Ticket and strutted their stylish stuff on the red carpet. Here’s our top 10 best dressed from last night’s Met Ball…   Ashley Green She may play a vampire in Twilight, but Ashley Green managed to look positively angelic in a custom Donna Karen strapless gown. The nude voluminous tulle was adorned with silver sequins that trailed into a wedding-like train. Teamed with a sleek up-do and touches of sparkle in her ears, clutch and cuff, she looked positively radiant. Jessica Alba Always one to look utterly fabulous on the red carpet, Jessica Alba didn’t disappoint at last night’s Met Ball dressed in a custom Ralph Lauren platinum strapless bustier gown covered in a sparkly crystal-encrusted overlay that highlighted her growing baby bump. Blake Lively Being the face of Chanel has been a dream come true for this Gossip Girl starlet, and last night she was joined by Mr Karl Lagerfield himself. Naturally, Blake opted for Chanel couture by means of a nude embellished dress covered by silver-lilac a chiffon sash to flaunt her fabulous figure too much. Beyoncé […]

Lunchtime buy: David Koma for Topshop halter dress

A few years ago on the X Factor, Cheryl Cole wore a very unusual dress with metal-pipe detailing by new designer David Koma and it made front page news. Since then, he’s become one of London’s hottest tickets, and now, luckily for us, we can have a piece of that attention-grabbing style via his collaboration with Topshop. David Koma designs for Topshop

You know when Topshop seals the deal with yet another designer collaboration it’s going to be an absolute corker, and their latest coup, the young, fresh and talented David Koma, is no exception. The collection, due to hit stores in a few weeks, reflects Koma’s signature structured designs, and inspired by the metal sculptures of William Pye, a technically-crafted cylindrical silver trimmed body-con dress accompanied by a backless metal tube waist belt are just a taster of what’s to come. “David epitomises the directional but feminine look that appeals to our Topshop girl,” the store’s senior buying director, Rachel Proud, tells Vogue UK. “It was important for the collection to stay true to the luxe element of his work, and to do this we needed to use premium fabrics and his signature shapes and metalwork. Fans of David’s work will not be disappointed.” The Central Saint Martins graduate got his first stylistic recognition after having won the college’s Best Womenswear Collection in 2007, followed by the Fashion Scout Merit Award and, this season, receiving NEWGEN sponsorship; it looks like Toppers are onto a winner again. ”Topshop signifies youth and modernity and its spirit evokes ‘cool London,’” says Koma. “It was really exciting to work with the Topshop team as I felt they understood me as a designer and appreciated my need to make a high quality product without compromising the design aesthetic, quality of fabric or finishing. They helped make my vision a reality and I’m thrilled with the result.” But if you want to grab a slick slice of Koma we suggest getting your skates on – the collection consists of five unique pieces, with just thirty of each available in stores and online.

Lady Gaga is launching a perfume!

So remember a while ago when rumours were rife that one certain Lady Gaga was launching a perfume, only to be quashed a few days later by Coty who said no such thing was happening? Well it is! And it’s with Coty! They’re such devils. Stephan Mormoris, senior vice president of global marketing at Coty (who hold the license to any worthy celebrity fragrance), has done one big fat full circle this morning after announcing that Lady Gaga has signed a long-term contract with the company to create fragrances under her name. According to WWD the agreement between the pair was finalised last week, and the first scent is set to roll out in time for spring 2012, though there’s no news on what it’ll smell like or quite how extravagant the bottle will be. What is clear, however, is just how pleased Coty is with its new coup, describing her as a “phenomenon” and a “fascinating cultural force” who can electrify the market – or make them a one huge wad of cash, in other words. We’re eagerly awaiting the first sneak peeks of the fragrance’s design – let’s hope it’s more leather and lace and less, er, meat.
