Sponsored Video: Get Ellie Goulding’s ASOS look!

Not only do we love Ellie Goulding’s music (a view we share with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – she was invited to play at the Royal Wedding, remember?) but we can’t fault her unique, youthful, contemporary and generally fabulous sense of style either. Ellie’s looking particularly stylish in the video for her brand new single Only You which you can see below, and ASOS has made channeling the indie-electro singer’s style just that little bit easier. You can shop Ellie’s look from the video if you head over to ASOS, but you can also have a bit of interactive fun with the video too. If you’re looking to kill time, you can play ‘Want it, Pin it’ while watching the video, which basically means you can choose your favourite look from the vid and then be in withy a chance of winning some tickets to see Ellie live on her upcoming tour. Pretty cool! This post is sponsored by ASOS.

John Lewis’s “The Journey” Christmas commercial as magical as ever!

As well as Debenhams’ “fabulous” offering, the other commercial we look forward to every winter comes courtesy of John Lewis. You know the holidays really are round the corner when two of our favourite retailers bust out the Christmas ads. As usual, John Lewis’s Christmas advert – which this year is called “The Journey” – is a touching, moving, magical thing, with another expertly chosen musical piece in the background. This time round, the musical magic is a cover of the classic Frankie Goes to Hollywood song Power of Love, which is beautifully sung by 20-year-old Gabrielle Aplin. We’re not gonna lie, it definitely pulled on our heart strings, but those are honestly not tears in our eyes….nope. Just been casually cutting onions… at 11:30 am, in the office… that’s our story and we’re sticking with it. Watch the commercial right now and follow the snowman’s Christmas journey… all will be revealed at the end of the advert. Enjoy! http://youtu.be/0N8axp9nHNU

What happened at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2012…

Here it is guys, the post you’ve been waiting so patiently for… the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2012 details and pictures! Classic Victoria’s Secret Angel Adriana Lima – who only gave birth a few months ago if you can believe it – kicked off the show by stepping out onto the beautifully decorated catwalk first. An abundance of the most gorgeous, sexiest and expertly selected models then followed her lead until newbie Toni Garrn eventually closed the show once all the Angels and singers had done their thing. And speaking of singers… Bajan sauce-pot Rihanna, Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars provided the musical entertainment for the evening, while Alessandra Ambrosio was given the honour of showcasing this year’s Fantasy bra. What do you think of her efforts below? And as we mentioned earlier this week, this year saw the Victoria’s Secret debut of two of our favourite young British models Cara Delevingne and Jourdan Dunn. We think they did a cracking job bringing a touch of Britishness to the proceedings, and we love how they showcased young, fun and quirky clothes as opposed to just lingerie. Karlie Kloss, who made her VS debut last year, looked like she had been walking on the Victoria’s Secret runway all her life, showcasing a variety of different, diverse but very sexy looks. We can’t get enough of her, and it’s not hard to see why the modelling world can’t either. And obviously all of the classic Victoria’s Secret Angels were present too, with the likes of Miranda Kerr, Candice Swanepoel, Erin Heatherton, Lily Aldridge and Doutzen Kroes being just some of the familiar faces making an appearance. Not only was the show an ultra-glamorous affair, but it was also a pretty charitable one too, as Victoria’s Secret and CBS reportedly donated $1 million […]

Victoria Beckham crowned “womenwear designer of the year” at WGSN awards

The WGSN Global Fashion Awards took place at London’s swanky Savoy Hotel on Monday night, and Victoria Beckham walked away with one of the biggest prizes – “womenswear designer of the year”. “In just five years Victoria Beckham has gone from creating a handful of grandma dresses to building a truly modern and covetable luxury brand, defying cynics and winning over the critics in the process,” said a judge at the event. “This is her year.” Victoria has already won her critics over by producing clean, gorgeous collections every season and having all of Tinsel Town lusting after her designs, but we agree with the judge – 2012 has definitely been a fantastic year for her! Other big winners of the night included Topshop, who was awarded with the Womenswear Design Team prize, Charlotte Olympia walked away with the Footwear & Accessories designer award, while Kim Jones at Louis Vuitton received the Menswear designer accolade. Congratulations to everyone! [Contact Music]

Lady Gaga and Terry Richardson launch Pop Water

Here’s an interesting collaboration… Lady Gaga, Queen of pop, (aah – we see where this is going) her manager Troy Carter, and Terry Richardson are teaming up to launch ‘Pop Water’, a brand new drink that’s supposed to be a darn sight healthier than the sugary beverages currently in circulation. So why did the trio decide to team up and take over the soft drinks market? “We noticed none of the brands had music in their DNA,” Troy Carter said. “We felt we could build something with relevance to music and pop culture if we built something from scratch. “We see what’s happening in New York where people want to get healthier, looking for alternatives. When we saw what was happening with Subway and how they completely disrupted McDonald’s… it’s a bigger movement than what we expected.” Well it’s good to know they did their homework. It looks like Lady Gaga will be appearing in the ad campaigns, while Terry will serve as the brand’s creative director. The drink – which is said to contain just 30 calories and 7 grams of sugar – will come in an assortment of flavours including apple, orange, pineapple and grape, and will firstly launch in California before branching out. We’re kind of excited to see where this goes, aren’t you? [Hollywood Reporter] [Image]

Natalia Vodianova for British Vogue’s December Pop issue

Well this was unexpected. Gone are the dark, wintry colours and chunky knits associated with the autumn/winter season, with bright and cheerful pops of colour in their place. “As you look at the cacophony of colour, print and excess that this Vogue holds, take note: you are looking at your future, or at least next spring’s wardrobe,” Alexandra Shulman writes in her editor’s letter. Mario Testino has photographed Natalia Vodianova for British Vogue’s final issue of the year, the one the magazine is calling the Pop issue. This not only means a pop of colour, but also pop music (hello One Direction, don’t think that wasn’t the first thing we spotted when we clapped eyes on the cover for the first time), pop-up shops, pop culture and just plain popular people! We love the concept and can’t wait to get our paws on it! Another great mag to ease us into the December issues!

Paris Fashion Week SS13 highlights – Part 4

Hakaan drama aside, Paris Fashion Week has continued to go on without a hitch, as gorgeous collections from Stella McCartney, Chloe, Givenchy and Chanel recently made their way down the runway. We even had Hedi Slimane’s debut collection for Saint Laurent Paris (formerly YSL) to look forward to. Paris Fashion Week isn’t Paris Fashion Week without a lavish Chanel show at the Grand Palais. We sometimes think there are only so many ways one can rework the iconic tweed jacket, but every season Karl Lagerfeld seems to find something new. Kaiser Karl has once again excelled, putting on a flawless collection that is the perfect mix of classic Chanel and modern, contemporary femininity. And as self-confessed bag addicts, we were particularly drawn to the pieces of arm and shoulder candy this season, especially the hula-hoop and leg-inspired bags. The oversized pearls also went down quite well with us – we do love statement bling! Elsewhere in Paris, the Chloe and Giambattista Valli shows took place, once again reiterating what we said about exaggerated silhouettes being key to the new season. Even though this isn’t a Couture collection, we kind of expected some big, bold and beautiful dresses to come out towards the end of the Giambattista Valli show (after all, they are the designer’s forte) but that didn’t happen this time round. Still, Giambattista’s exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail is still evident even in the simplest of pieces, which proves just why he gained that all-impotant Haute Couture appellation so early on. Well played! We’ve been waiting for Hedi Slimane’s Saint Laurent debut ever since he joined the fashion House, and although this isn’t what we were expecting, we were quite impressed with what he managed to cook up. Akin to a lot of collections at Paris Fashion Week, Hedi’s […]

Taylor Swift: “It’s not my fault if someone gets into a relationship with me and then cheats and I write a song about it,” – Marie Claire UK, November

We got a lovely surprise when we learnt that Taylor Swift would be gracing the November cover of Marie Claire UK. We know that the 22-year-old singer likes to go for the soft, innocent look when it comes to red carpet events (a trend which she nails every time, may we add) but we’re glad to see her rock something edgier for the cover shoot. Especially since some of her recent songs have had a bit of a bite to them! As well as rocking a nice mix of edgy and bohemian looks for the editorial, Taylor opens up about her relationships, including writing songs about her boyfriends of the past. “Music is absolutely everything that I am and everything that I stand for,” she said. “It’s not my fault if someone gets into a relationship with me and then cheats and I write a song about it. And despite her penchant for writing about her naughty exes, Taylor was keen to stress that she is in fact a true romantic. “Even after it explodes into a million pieces and burns down and you’re standing in a pile of the ash of what it once was thinking, ‘Why did I have to meet this person, why did this have to happen?’,” she continued. “But then, when you make eye contact with someone across the room and it clicks and, bam, you’re there. In love again.” Bless her cottons! You can read the rest of her interview in the November issue of Marie Claire UK.

Paris Fashion Week SS13 highlights – Part 3

It was a busy weekend for the Parisian fashionistas, as Vivienne Westwood, Christian Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier and John Galliano were among the spring/summer 2013  collections which debuted on the French runways. We already saw Raf Simons present his debut collection for Christian Dior a few months ago during Couture Fashion Week, but we were still looking forward to seeing what direction he would take his first ready-to-wear line in. As a whole, it was contemporary and modern, but it was minimalistic. The subtle but very apparent hint of romanticism wasn’t lost in the new-season collection either, which just goes to show that Raf Simons has done his homework. We’re impressed! You can always expect a good gimmick from a Vivienne Westwood show, and the latest outing was no exception. The models essentially channelled Marie Antoinette with their hair and outfits, while some of them walked out with hearts on their faces – obviously the designer was keen to show and spread the love. Quite cute really! Jean Paul Gaultier collections are always a highlight, and once again the designer sought inspiration from famous faces. It was all about the late Amy Winehouse for the Couture show back in January, but this time round JPG paid tribute to more than one musical icon by presenting looks inspired by David Bowie, Boy George, Madonna and the legendary Michael Jackson. We imagine the catwalk show in itself would have been quite spectacular and the atmosphere somewhat electric. John Galliano was another hotly anticipated collection, as we were intrigued to find out what creative director Bill Gaytten was capable of doing now that he didn’t have Christian Dior to focus on as well. The collection definitely went in a different direction this season; gone was John Galliano’s love of theatrics, drama and all things attention-grabbing, […]

Heidi Klum is hosting the 2012 MTV EMAs!

Big congratulations to Heidi Klum this morning, as it’s just been revealed that the gorgeous supermodel will be hosting the MTV European Music Awards later this year! Hosting the EMAs is an honour for anyone, but we think it holds an extra special place in her heart as this year the awards are held in Frankfurt, Germany – her home country! We bet the spectators will be just as chuffed to have one of their own hosting too! “I’m honoured to host the 2012 MTV EMAs in its return to my home country of Germany,” Heidi said. “The MTV EMA is one of the biggest nights in global music, fashion and culture, and I’m thrilled to play a part in bringing this one-of-a-kind show to audiences all over the world. We’re going to have a blast!” Heidi will follow in the footsteps of previous hostesses such as Katy Perry, Selena Gomez and Eva Longoria. Do you think she has what it takes? She certainly has the killer body to pull off the outfits – and we know that there are a lot of wardrobe changes for an EMA hostess! You can catch the EMAs on November 11th. (Don’t worry, we’ll remind you nearer the time!) [Coco Perez]

From the Sports Track to the Red Carpet: the Rise of the Tracksuit

Prada’s Olympic collection continues high fashion’s athletic obsession The S/S 2013 fashion season’s well underway, with London Fashion Week in full swing, but its Milan’s menswear catwalks that are still the talk of the town. Prada’s S/S men’s collection created a buzz, with its Olympic spirit clear for all to see. Thanks to Prada, just-like-that, the tracksuit is back. The collection features a supremely tailored take on the traditionally slouchy sportswear, with go faster stripe detailing switched to run the length of the inner, rather than outer, leg. Sweatbands, sports vests and polo shirts completed the look, alongside wide-strapped and striped rubber mules, reminiscent of retro Olympic swimmers. Prada’s sporty new look is a continuation of a trend set last year that saw the tracksuit take on a whole new level of couture cred. Dubbed the Track and Field trend by Vogue, dresses took on an athletic flavour, performance sports fabrics were used to create figure-hugging shapes, and the tracksuit was given an elegant overhaul by the world’s leading fashion houses, all in the run up to the Olympics. For the final seal of stylish approval, one of Britain’s most successful fashion exports, Stella McCartney, teamed up with Adidas this year to create the chicest Team GB uniforms yet. A long way from the eyepopping Jimmy Saville shellsuits of old, the sports gear has been toned down and tailored up, with designers using a whole range of fabrics to create a whole new take on this athletic staple. Helping the tracksuit sweat its way from the sports track to the red carpet, trendsetting celebrities have played as big a part as haute couturiers in transforming the tracksuit into a hot fashion item. We’ve seen a lot more of celebrities in their gym threads in recent years, thanks to the round-the-clock […]

Would you emulate Rita Ora’s style?

Eclectic, charming, culture clasher: terms that are probably most fitting to describe Jay Z’s latest recruit. We’re talking about 21-year old, Roc Nation-signed, embellished beanie toting singer Rita Ora who, from Kosovo-via-London, has carved out for herself a niche by way of melodiously catchy tracks and an uncanny resemblance to superstar Rihanna – her stateside sibling, some may say. Crooning alongside the musical elite on super hit tracks such as “Hot Right Now” and “R.I.P”, Rita’s note perfect vocals aren’t the only thing to have caught our attention. Her mash-up approach to dressing teeters on street-meets-elegance (a Hermès Birkin paired casually with Nike Air Jordan trainers), deeming it cool to tear up the style rulebook and dressing, rather than dancing, to the beat of her own drum. With her trademark blond hair, crimson lips and infectious wide smile, Rita’s style is often likened to another star who rather likes to make waves in the sartorial sea. Rihanna’s urban-inspired, fierce power dressing ways have seemingly rubbed off on Rita, (the love of tattoos; floral trouser suits; sporty footwear and, of course, a shared penchant for piling on the bling and razor sharp talons). Even Vogue online intervened for fashion purposes (a token of approval, maybe?), as they featured Rita on the Today I’m Wearing photo blog, where she showcased her eccentric style; a mix of Louboutins, NY Yankees jerseys, and a particularly bright Annie Phillips fur scarf. But she isn’t the only celeb to step into the limelight with this unusual blend of labels and looks. A pre-makeunder Jessie J was partial to an eye-hurting ensemble, and Lily Allen did the whole dress with sneakers thing back in 2006. But the question I find asking myself is this: is Rita’s style a genuine depiction of her personal choices, or is it a […]

London Fashion Week SS13: Day 4

Twitter was blowing up today, and that could only mean one thing: the Burberry show! There were celebrities left right and centre who attended to watch Christopher Bailey present his spring/summer 2013 offering at Kensington Gardens, and among those sitting pretty on the front row were Dita von Teese (star struck!) Olympic gold medalist Victoria Pendleton, Andy Murray, Tali Lennox, Anna Wintour, Laura Bailey and even the loveable Harry Styles among many others. Below is our recap of the Burberry Prorsum show, and some highlights from some of the other shows we attended on the fourth day of London Fashion Week. Enjoy! Who: Burberry Prorsum What: Colour crazy! A bold collection with a rich and extensive colour palette, with lots of fabric experimenting too! Sexy, sultry and sassy definitely sprang to mind when we first clapped eyes on the collection, and according to reports, that’s exactly what the main man himself said he was going for. Mission accomplished, Sir! Highlight: Seeing the extent of the brightness of the collection when the models paraded down the runway during the finale. We thought the music was pretty special too! To summarise: An opulent, colourful, diverse collection which is set to have celebs – and us ordinary folk – foaming at the mouth.   Who: Antonio Berardi What: Geometric, bold, intricate, structured, defined silhouettes; this year’s Antonio Berardi girl definitely has the attitude and isn’t afraid to show it! Despite the fact that there were many sporty, less glam pieces on the runway (we’re talking about the racer-back pieces in particular) the sequin offerings more than made up for it. We adore the versatility, and Antonio’s more relaxed take on the peplum was genius! Highlight: The pink sequin dress! To summarise:  Embellished and glittering garments mixed with geometric and structured ones for an overall […]

London Fashion Week SS13: Day 1

Once we’ve seen all the covers for the all-important September issues, the next thing on our calendar to get excited about is of course Fashion Month. It all began rather beautifully thanks to the wonderful designer collections showcased at New York Fashion Week – and now it’s good old Blighty’s turn to have a go. If you follow us on Twitter (if not, why not?!) then you’ll have a small inkling as to what we got up to today, the first day of London Fashion Week, as we’ve been keeping you informed and updated throughout the day with pictures on the catwalk – and a few cheeky ones behind  the scenes too! Enough blabbing! Here’s a roundup of some of our stand-out shows. Did they stand out for the right reasons or the wrong ones? Read on to find out! Who:Antoni and Alison What: A celebration of the brand’s 25 years! However, the duo were keen to avoid “looking back” and reminiscing, and instead opted to move forward, hence their very aptly entitled show name, “New Work.” Highlight: The band! As it was the first show of LFW, the band provided a lovely alternative (or in our case, accompaniment) to caffeine as it really perked us up. To summarise: A fab collection to kick off LFW with, as well as to celebrate a milestone as a brand! [Images]  Who: Fyodor Golan What: An exploration of the literary realm, with the boo Blue Tattoo providing serious inspiration. Lots of Victorian-esque shapes and silhouettes, as well as flowing, elegant dresses with a very glam twist thanks to the Swarovski elements adorning the garments. Highlight: As per our Twitter earlier, the pink dress! To summarise: A versatile, inspirational collection which is instantly wearable, not to mention memorable. Who: Carlotta Actis Barone What: Heavily […]

Marion Cotillard and Gwen Stefani talk fashion in Time’s Style & Design Fall issue

It’s exciting enough to learn that Time has just released the Fall 2012 issue of its biannual Time Style & Design, but imagine our delight when we discovered that Marion Cotillard was on the cover… and both she and Gwen Stefani were among the interviewees! Marion Cotillard has had her fair share of mag covers recently (as has Gwen!), and this is another one for her to be proud of, don’t you think? As Marion was the first celeb to wear new-season Dior Couture on the red carpet, it’s safe to say that she is regarded as quite a big fashion influence, so it was inevitable that she’d be asked to dish the dirt on her sartorial choices past and present. “I love men’s hats, because my father wears them,” Marion said. I wore a lot of my father’s clothes as a kid, even though most of the time it was a disaster.” And let’s not forget music and style goddess Gwen Stefani, who spoke out about songwriting and clothes designing. “I’m more experienced with songwriting,” she said when asked which was easier. “Design is more of a fun hobby. There’s not as much pressure. It’s not emotional. It’s so fun and so indulgent. It’s all about what I want and what I can make.” We can’t wait to get stuck into those interviews! Will you be getting the new Time Style & Design?

What we snapped at Vogue Fashion’s Night Out 2012

As you may know, I attended a little event called Vogue Fashion’s Night Out yesterday, and as promised, have a few snaps to share with you. I mentioned yesterday that I was taking a less organised approach with FNO this year (had a bit of a Joey from Friends “getting into the map” moment the last time!) and have to say that I quite enjoyed the spontaneity. And following the fashionable masses! My first port of call was Reiss in New Bond Street, as the loud music courtesy of the DJ and cocktails courtesy of the rather attractive barmen drew me in… like a moth to proverbial flame. I got to check out the brand new stripe bag and have a little boogie with the shoppers, so it was a great start to the evening. As Mulberry was the official sponsor of the evening, I felt it was imperative to stop by, and once again, was glad I did as I – along with the fashionable crowd – was entertained by indie band The Vaccines, was treated to some wonderful cocktails and canapés, and got to see the likes of Bip Ling, Daisy Lowe, Emma Hill, Alexandra Shulman, Edie Campbell, Laura Bailey and many other famous and fabulous faces. I also loved how fashionistas were queuing up in their dozens to get their nails done; my one regret of the night was not sticking around long enough to get my talons tended to as well. I also headed to Coach to check out the gorgeous bags and catch up with the wonderful Emily from Fashion Foie Gras and Ella from Coco’s Tea Party.  Shopping, cocktails and a good old chinwag = girl heaven! I was beyond-tempted to snap that red bag up, but I somehow managed to restrain myself. Having second […]

Anna Dello Russo turns pop star for H&M

Vogue Japan‘s quirky and unpredictable fashion director Anna Dello Russo, who is the self-proclaimed Lady Gaga of fashion, (although we’re a bit dubious about this title as Mother Monster herself has a rather epic influence in the fashion world, but never mind) has recorded a pop song and video to promote her upcoming accessories range with H&M. And we have the teaser right here! The song, entitled Fashion Shower, was produced by DJ Emiliano Pepe and the video was shot by Alex Turvey. The full video actually debuts later on in the day so keep your eyes peeled for it; and keep an eye out for the accompanying print campaign too, which was shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. We don’t think Lady Gaga should be worried, but Anna’s video is rather brilliant to watch. We’re on the fourth play already and we’re not even done for the day. What do you think? Should she give up the day job? Anna Dello Russo for H&M – which is of course the reason behind all this musical promo – launches on October 4th. [WWD]

David Bowie retrospective is coming to the V&A!

Fans of music and fashion are going to love this!  Not only are some of Hollywood’s most iconic costumes coming to London’s Victoria and Albert museum later next month, but it now looks like David Bowie will be celebrated there too! “David Bowie is a true icon, more relevant to popular culture now than ever”, said Martin Roth, the director of the V&A. “His radical innovations across music, theatre, fashion and style still resound today in design and visual culture and he continues to inspire artists and designers throughout the world.” The retrospective is entitled “David Bowie Is” and slated to launch at the V&A on March 23rd next year, and will run until July 28th. Over 300 objects will be going on display, including handwritten lyrics, photography, films, music videos, set designs, instruments, and of course, the iconic costumes! More than 60 costumes will be showcased, and yes, that does include some of the most iconic Ziggy Stardust bodysuits too. It wouldn’t be a David Bowie retrospective without them! David Bowie is a legend who greatly influenced both music and fashion, and we literally cannot wait to absorb this exhibit next year. Bring on 2013! [Telegraph] [Image]

Are you a fan of Rita Ora’s floral jumpsuit?

We know that Rita Ora has often been referred to as the UK’s answer to Rihanna, but we think the singer is seeking inspiration from the Barbadian pop princess in her wardrobe as well as her music. A few months ago, Ri-Ri wore an Emilio Pucci silk jumpsuit that looked more like a pair of pyjamas (albeit luxury ones!) and now Rita Ora is getting in on the clothes-that-look-like-sleepwear action too. Don’t get us wrong, we love a good jumpsuit and playsuit, but don’t think this is the most flattering for a 21-year-old with an incredible figure. We do applaud her for putting her own stamp on her outfits though – we’re quite tempted to snap up a pair of those sunnies, but not sure we could pull them off without the bling and a record contract to match. What say you? [Image]

Check out Beyonce’s Glastonbury-inspired House of Deréon ads

We don’t usually associate Glastonbury Festival with beauty and glamour. Sure, there are ways to look stylish with some on-trend wellies and crop tops, but you’d never realistically expect to look like the goddess that is Beyonce at a muddy music festival, would you? Still, that hasn’t stopped Beyonce and photographer Jean-Baptiste Mondino from seeking inspiration from Glasto for the autumn/winter 2012 campaign images for House of Deréon, the clothing line Bey works on with her mother Tina Knowles. “The images of Beyoncé are amazing and we had a lot of fun using the festival experience as our inspiration,” Tina said. “Like music, fashion has a universal appeal and we look forward to hearing the consumer’s reaction to the new campaign and to the collection.” Well Tina, let us tell you. Akin to all other Beyonce pics in existence, we think the ads are gorgeous. However, we think it’s a bit unrealistic to aspire to look even an eighth as stunning at a festival as Beyonce does in these pics. Having said that, we don’t mind snapping up a few of the covetable pieces in the new collection and giving it a good go… after all, there’s no harm in trying, is there? We’re all over the high waisted leopard print maxi skirt! [Fashionista]

Crushing on Ashley Tisdale’s playful Motel Rocks look

With her sleek, wavy blonde tresses and generally effortless style, Ashley Tisdale is the ultimate California dream girl… and her latest look on the streets of West Hollywood just confirms it! We always see the Tiz getting papped coming in and out of the gym, and we can totally see that her efforts haven’t been in vain as she is rocking a seriously slim and toned body. Just goes to show that hard work really does pay off! *Puts cake down…* Ashley may not be in Hellcats or High School Musical anymore, but we know she’s still hot Hollywood property, and can definitely afford a pricey wardrobe if she wants one. This is why it’s refreshing to know that despite the queues of designers waiting to dress her, she still likes to shop from the good old high street too. Ashley’s gorgeous, print-tastic Tropical Butterfly playsuit only costs £48 – and you can get the exact same one at Motel Rocks. All you’d need are some gladiator sandals, sunnies and a fabulous blow dry and you’d be good to go.

Nicole Richie rocks Thirty Four Disciples for InStyle Australia’s September cover

Now that we’re done and dusted with the British and American September covers, we’re looking around the rest of the globe to temporarily fill the void. Luckily, Nicole Richie‘s InStyle Australia issue landed in our inbox, and it’s doing a good job of keeping us busy until the October covers start rolling in. As always, Nicole has given a fab interview to accompany her stunning editorial pics, and this time round she’s chatting to the mag about her body, dancing, hubby Joel Madden, and of course, fashion! “There’s a real connection between fashion and music, and each season I try to bring the two together,” Nicole said. “There’s a certain feeling, a special place in your heart, when you hear a song you love. I try to tap into the same feeling through my clothing. “I don’t have muses – it’s not so literal – but I’m obviously inspired by the music of the ’60s and ’70s. I love the overall freedom of that time. The idea of clashing didn’t exist, and you were able to freely mix fabrics, prints and colours.” Head to the website for more cheeky snippets from the interview.

Watch Lady Gaga’s haunting commercial for her Fame fragrance

Bondage, black and bonkers. That’s what went through our heads when we first saw the video commercial for Lady Gaga’s debut fragrance, Fame. And even though we know to expect the unexpected wherever Gaga is concerned, it doesn’t always mean we’re prepared for what we see before us. The dramatic commercial was shot by Steven Klein, and features semi-naked men, an abundance of latex along with some other bondage-esque props and some very haunting background music with a petrified scream thrown in at the end for good measure. How many countries do we reckon this ad will be banned in? Will you be getting a bottle of the scent that is being marketed as the world’s “first black eau de partum” or will you just admire and support from a distance? http://youtu.be/qwGE-mhfigA

CoverGirl signs Janelle Monáe

Congrats to Janelle Monáe this morning, as it’s just been revealed that she will join the gorgeous Taylor Swift and Sofia Vergara as the face of CoverGirl. “I believe it’s time that women truly owned their superpowers and used their beauty and strength to change the world around them,” the singer said. “One of my core values is to help redefine what it means to be a strong and beautiful woman in the music and fashion worlds and to empower the wonderful things that make us unique.” “Becoming a CoverGirl is truly an honor and a gift: it opens up a new platform for me to inspire women to feel stronger, braver and more beautiful inside and out.” From what we can see in the behind-the-scenes pic above, it looks like Janelle’s trademark “black tie” look has been worked into the ad campaign. We don’t think it would feel right if her signature style was absent. Janelle’s ads are set to drop in September, so not long to wait! Let’s hope she doesn’t get involved in any airbrushing scandals like Taylor Swift though… Ps: how much do you love the video of Janelle belting out the brand’s slogan below? http://youtu.be/Z2ZjVDMyfv4 [Financial Post]

Jennifer Lopez talks dancing, parenting and feeling sexy in the InStyle US September issue

Like a true world-class diva, Jennifer Lopez has kept us waiting for her InStyle US September issue, but we definitely think it’s been worth it. See pic above for proof! ‘Jenny from the block’ was photographed by Michelangelo Di Battista and is wearing a hot red and black number from Givenchy… flawless as usual. We always look forward to reading Jen’s interviews as she seems to tell it like it is and doesn’t really hold back like some of the big stars tend to do. We have J-Lo’s views on love, parenting, touring, dancing and bouncing back after the tough times look forward to, as well as a host of jaw-dropping pictures that will make you rethink that extra chocolate bar. We – along with most red-blooded males in existence – think Jen always looks hot, but when does she personally feel her sexiest? “I feel sexiest when I’m dancing,” she told the mag. “When I’m exercising and taking good care of myself — that’s when I’m at my best. “I’m a dancer, so dance and choreography have always been a way to express myself. Anything you do with music or a song, or even playing a character, is a way of expressing yourself. Dance just happens to be a very sensual way of doing it.” Anyone who disagrees only has to look at one of her music videos to see where she is coming from. Body envy! The InStyle US September issue hits newsstands on August 17th.

Gwen Stefani rocks Jil Sander for the Harper’s Bazaar US September issue

Our Gwen Stefani girl crush has not only returned, but it’s now in overdrive after finally clapping eyes on cover for the Harper’s Bazaar US September issue. We don’t think the No Doubt singer has aged a bit since she last appeared on the scene a few years ago. and if you think her pictures, which were shot by Terry Richardson, are all smoke and mirrors (or airbrushing and Photoshop to be more accurate) then just watch Harper’s Bazaar’s behind the scenes video to be proved wrong. Gwen showcases her versatility in the editorial shoot, as she models very high fashion and more playful and edgy looks with ease. Our favourite piece without a doubt has to be the hot pink Diane von Furstenberg jumpsuit, although the baby pink Jil Sander dress that she wears on the cover (teamed with a fab Alexis Mabille Couture hat) comes a close second. The singer and style goddess talks to the mag about her own personal look, motherhood and returning to the music scene with her old band, among other things. “It’s superfun being a mom, but it’s hard too,” she said. “ Finding that balance between work and family is the hardest thing I’ve ever done by far.” Read more in Harper’s Bazaar’s September issue which hits newsstands on August 21st. Have fun waiting patiently until then!

WATCH Kate Moss in George Michael’s White Light video (full version!)

As promised yesterday, here is Kate Moss doing her supermodel thang in George Michael’s music video for his brand new single White Light. It was reportedly inspired by George Michael’s recent brush with death, after suffering from a bad case of pneumonia earlier this year. In the video, it looks like his fate is in Kate Moss’s hands, as she determines whether he will live or die with the flip of a coin. Dark stuff! But we think both Kate and George look great, and the video has definitely lived up to the hype in our opinion. Watch it for yourself to see if you agree!

Sneak a peek at Kate Moss in George Michael’s White Light video

Kate Moss and George Michael teaming up for music video fun should have happened years ago, but as the old saying goes, it’s better late than never. And always save the best til last is another great one to apply to this situation too! We have a very sneaky peek at Kate Moss appearing in George Michael’s video for his brand new single White Light – and it’s definitely whet our appetite for the entire thing. We could totally get used to Kate Moss on our screens. We loved her Ab Fab cameo – and if the rumours are true, we could seer her with a bigger role in the movie version of the classic show too so keep your eyes peeled. George Michael’s video premieres tomorrow, so you haven’t got long to wait to see Mossy in action!

Alexander McQueen gets futuristic for the autumn/winter 2012 ad campaign

The Alexander McQueen autumn/winter 2012 ad campaign images are finally out, and we have to say, they’ve definitely been worth the wait. Each David Sims lensed image features a somewhat robotic Suvi Koponen in both black and white, and in colour, modelling some of Alexander McQueen’s most magical, futuristic and dramatic new season designs. Even with everything going on in the background and the general out-of-this-world, somewhat extra-terrestrial nature of the ads (some of these pics really remind us of Katy Perry’s E.T music video… anyone else agree?), the main focus is still very much in each expertly structured creation. Sarah Burton’s “beautiful future” vision that she initially had for the collection definitely hasn’t been lost in these ads. Utter perfection! [Styleite]

Spotlight on: Raffaele Ascione

As the Olympics Opening Ceremony is drawing closer and closer, this week’s ‘Spotlight on’ feature once again has strong British connections. Introducing: Raffaele Ascione. Raffaele Ascione is a German-born but London based designer who produces all of his collections right here in the UK. He has an MA in Womenswear from Central Saint Martins and has worked with the likes of Max Mara and Gareth Pugh, which we think you’ll agree is pretty impressive by anyone’s standards. Some might say Raffaele Ascione has officially made it big, as Lady Gaga and Jessie J – two ladies who are known as much for their fashion choices as their musical talent – are fans of his work! As well as having two of the biggest popstars on the planet wearing his designs (click here to check out Mother Monster showcasing his awesome theatrical cape), Raffaele Ascione has already staged several flawless fashion week shows, with his latest being at the Vauxhall Fashion Scout at London Fashion Week last season. Take a look at some of the items from his autumn/winter 2012 collection below to see what this man is made of! Make sure you look out for new-season coverage of Raffaele Ascione’s work fresh from London Fashion Week in September; and remember his name because this designer ain’t going anywhere!

Five minutes with Style Passport’s Sarah Walter

Catering to our style and beauty needs for staycations, spa breaks and beach holidays and a whole lot more, by cherry picking products from ‘high/low’ fashion and beauty brands, Style Passport is the go-to destination for stylish holiday essentials. My Fashion Life caught up with the lady behind it all, Sarah Walter, who after starting a placement at British Vogue the same day Anna Wintour started at the magazine, and holding senior positions at Marie Claire, and Harpers, decided to set up Style Passport out of a ‘lifelong dream.’ Meet the woman who’s done it all… How did the idea to set up a specific platform like Style Passport come about? Style Passport is the culmination of my careers in magazines and then retail, combined with my huge passion for travel and adventure. Name three holiday spots you regularly visit and why. Our Cottage in the Brecon Beacons in Wales as often as I can to walk, garden and spend quality time with my family and friends. Baros in the Maldives which is the most perfect tiny island I have ever visited, with the best fish life I have ever seen, and New York. A friend said her only regret in life is she cannot visit New York for the first time again, I agree. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would that be? I’m getting keener and keener on California, the lifestyle is very appealing all that delicious food and wine and the drives…… Three things I never travel (abroad) without are… My iPhone for music, maps and note taking, a huge pair of sunglasses (currently loving Linda Farrow giant pink shades) to feel glamorous, protect me from the sun and to disguise jet lagged eyes. And finally a scarf which can be a wrap, towel, skirt, head wrap and […]

New Burberry autumn/winter 2012 ad campaign pics and vids!

Burberry is very much conquering the social media world right now, but it doesn’t look like it’s stopping any time soon. Therefore, as well as releasing a brand spanking new ad campaign image for the autumn/winter 2012 collection, Burberry also uploaded a new video to its YouTube channel yesterday – and the blogosphere has already gone crazy for it. Akin to the first images we showed you a few months ago, the ad campaign is shot in stunning black and white by Burberry fave Mario Testino, and features new faces (we like to call them the new Cara and Eddie) actress Gabriella Wilde and singer Roo Panes. The video below is entitled ‘Greenwich by Night’ and was shot at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich. Nothing we say will do it justice, so turn off all your music, get in the zone, and enjoy 56 seconds of pure magic. http://youtu.be/hmA6vYZdf5A

The Spice Girls’ most iconic costumes are going under the hammer!

Is it just us, or does anyone else feel like they’ve stepped in a time machine and gone back to the nineties? All five Spice Girls are dominating the headlines again, and we couldn’t be happier about it! We think this should have happened years ago, but the Spice Girls are finally putting some of their most iconic costumes up for auction to raise money for Save the Children and Children in Need. Apart from Geri Halliwell’s world-famous Union Jack dress, which is currently on display at the Hard Rock Café in Las Vegas, you can get your hands on some of the girls’ most famous costumes. Victoria Beckham and Emma Bunton will be donating some of their respective PVC and babydoll dresses, Mel B and Mel C their trademark leopard print catsuits and Adidas track-suit and crop-top combos and Geri Halliwell some super-mini dresses! We have a feeling these pieces are gonna go for quite a bit, but we hope there’s something in there that we can afford. We want to Spice up our lives too! [Telegraph] [Image]

Mel C was our best dressed Spice Girl at yesterday’s Viva Forever! press call – who was yours?

Yesterday’s ‘Celebrity Style’ post was focused on the ever-gorgeous Blake Lively, so as much as we wanted to gush about the TWO beautiful Marchesa and Jenny Packham outfits she wore to The Late Show last night, we thought we’d give someone else a go in the style spotlight. It’s only fair, after all. So, from Gossip Girl to Spice Girl (see what we did there?) we present you: Melanie Chisholm. Mel C, i.e. Sporty Spice, definitely gets our style gold medal for her immaculate appearance at yesterday’s press call for the announcement of the Viva Forever! musical. Don’t act like you’re not excited about it – we’ve seen you Googling the date of opening night! As usual, Victoria Beckham looked pristine, polished and you guessed it, posh, but did you honestly ever think you’d see Sporty Spice in an elegant white mullet dress? No. Exactly – hence why we are showing our appreciation for Mel C’s sartorial choice in the best way we know how. While we loved Emma Bunton’s cute style (we adore those Brian Atwood platforms!) and were quite fond of Geri Halliwell’s flirty (albeit slightly age inappropriate) dress and Mel B’s Lanvin number, Mel C gets our best-dressed vote without a doubt. We love a good fashion risk, and this white Acne dress was definitely one which paid off. Mel C is our best dressed, but who is yours? Vote now! [poll id=”352″] [Image]

Olivia Palermo returns for Carrera y Carrera

It doesn’t surprise us that Carrera y Carrera has once again tapped Olivia Palermo as the face of its latest ad campaign. All you have to do is look at her beautiful face, bouncy hair and overall effortless elegance to see that she is perfect for the brand and everything it stands for.  Olivia and her aforementioned beautiful face are posing pretty for the Música collection, which is reportedly “fused together through melody, harmony, and rhythm. Inspired by music, inherent to Spanish culture, Música is a collection where emotions are expressed and reinterpreted in each of the pieces designed to ‘waken your senses’, turn up the volume and reveal your inner musical diva.” We never had Olivia down as that much of a diva, but we think she has that Mediterranean goddess thing down to a tee, don’t you? Make sure you check out the behind-the-scenes video too – for proof that Olivia’s stunning ads aren’t just down to clever lighting and over-airbrushing. http://youtu.be/GN2EiTqzKhY [Sassi Sam]

Kim Kardashian finally gets her “Vogue” cover!

A slap on the face for a certain editrix who slapped a Met Ball ban on the woman with over 15 million ‘twitters’, or maybe a symbol of a star status well cemented, Kim Kardashian on the July/August issue of L’Uomo Vogue is well and truly surprising. Surprising because the most powerful woman at the helm of the Vogue collection (collectively, say Anna Wintour) has made her intentions clear about letting the reality star-cum-enormous attention amassing Armenian grace the cover of the US version of the publication. Surprising because the Kardashian clan has really had to fight in order to etch their name alongside Hollywood’s elite on wall of fame: they aren’t ‘famous’ for anything, but being famous. Yet here she is, bearing an uncanny, yet strikingly beautiful resemblance to her mother, better known as momager Kris Jenner, on the cover of another Condé Nast edition, and metaphorically raising a two fingered salute to those who deny her the bonafide star status she longs for. The black and white cover image shows Kim Kardashian in a situation she’s comfortably accustomed to – being hounded by the paparazzi, but looking particularly composed and oh-this-is–my life about it. Shot by Francesco Carrozzini, son of Vogue Italia’s ed-in-chief, Franca Sozzani, the shoot took place in LA’s Chinatown, accompanied by a rather aptly titled editorial “Just Unconventional.” Donning a wig, oversized shades and an upturned collar jacket that helps complete her Kris Jenner look, Kim has, what we call in the modern age of accomplishment, made it. As I type, Kim is at the zenith of her ‘public’ career, and in a position many – even those super-critical of her- would agreeably want to be. Current ‘measures’ of success and outreach, otherwise known as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram are testament to this Kardashian’s infectiousness, […]

Five minutes with…PPQ

With a client portfolio that counts Rihanna, Alexa Chung and Sienna Miller as loyal fans, Amy Molyneaux and Percy Parker – the dynamic driving force behind the directional label, PPQ – must be doing something right. Awarded with being responsible for ‘spearheading the drainpipe jean revolution’, Amy and Percy took this pioneering approach across the realm of fashion, marrying it seamlessly with music. The design duo run a record label by the name of 1234 Records, and host the annual sell-out 1234 Shoreditch festival. My Fashion Life caught up with the creative twosome to talk favourite holiday destinations, music, and of course, fashion. Describe a typical working day in the life of the PPQ dynamic duo. Amy: A typical day consists of designing across several collections with responses to factories or meetings with suppliers or pattern cutters. Percy: Generally coordinating show details or planning overseas trips to meet buyers and press. With what inspirations in mind was the PPQ spring/summer 2012 collection conceived? Amy: Inspiration came from one of our archive prints, so SS’12 has a retro feel to it – It’s very nostalgic yet fresh and upbeat for summer. Percy: It was great to look back at some of the iconic pieces we have made in our 10 years. Tell us about your favourite holiday destination? Amy: It’s a semi-difficult question as a lot of the places we travel to are work related – even though they are good. I think the best place I go to where I leave my drawing behind is the North of Ibiza, but you never stop having ideas or being inspired. Other highlights are Antigua and Japan. Percy: Mauritius was a great autumn break at the end of last season. No jet lag and the most chilled out staff on the planet which […]

Bright young things, those Olsen twins

Quietly, patiently, and super-stylishly, the world’s most famous twins took home the most coveted award in the fashion industry. That’s right. The doe-eyed, visually alike, stylistic pole opposites, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen walked away with the Womenswear Designer of the Year award for their luxury label, The Row, at the CFDA awards earlier this week, beating fashion behemoths the likes of Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler to the prestigious accolade. They are the very 25-year-old twins, who first stepped into the limelight on the ABC sitcom Full House as babies. With a life that started with baby steps into Hollywood, and an inevitable future of acting, fame and stardom (albeit not such a fashion-centric one back then) awaiting them, the Olsen’s finally chose fashion as the industry that would define them. Their fashionable inclinations were obvious from an early age, thanks to the corny on-screen outfits the girls profess to choosing themselves, right through to their late teens, when they began to develop a more refined-alternative dress sense. In an interview with ELLE magazine, the twins discussed their affinity for modest dressing – something that clearly sets them apart from the thigh-skimming frock fraternity we’re accustomed to. This association with an alternative style has led the twins to become one of the most successful fashion duos out there today. Proud creators of luxury fashion label, The Row (the one that brought us that $39,000 backpack), the creations of which they’re seen in at countless, high profile events (as at this year’s CFDA’s); a more affordable line by the name of Elizabeth and James, alongside Olsenboye (available only in the U.S.) and StyleMint; a site that offers the experience of a personal, virtual stylist, to get you looking Olsen-ready. The win for the Olsen’s at the CFDA’S on Monday night reminded […]

Rate or Slate Jessica Brown-Findlay, Ciara and Paris Hilton’s style efforts?

This week’s Rate or Slate takes us to the red, or rather blue carpet at the Prometheus film premiere in London, and leads us to the red carpet fashion parade at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards held in LA, last week. Jessica Brown-Findlay made a blue carpet appearance in an edgy Peter Pilotto peter number, complete with what we like to call ‘sensible’ heels and clutch. Ciara opted for a racy, red Balmain mini (very mini!) and sexy sky-high courts, but her glossy, tousled mane is the real winner here! Socialite Paris Hilton, too, turned up to the MTV Music Awards in a metallic, sequined mini, splashed with crystal embellishment at the neck and hemline. A spiked clutch and black patent pumps completed her look. It’s over to the Style Jury to dissect… Fashion News Ed says: Jessica Brown-Findlay: ‘This is my favourite dress, but don’t think it’s hugely flattering on Jessica which is a shame. The styling is perfect though.’ Ciara: ‘I think someone needs to give Ciara a refresher course on the whole “boobs or legs but never both” rule as she seems to have forgotten. I’d have preferred a slightly lower hemline, but the MTV Movie Awards is one of the few places you can get away with the slightly more daring numbers.’ Paris Hilton: This is very Paris! Nothing new or groundbreaking… she’s a pretty blonde girl wearing a pretty black dress at a star-studded event. It’s neither here nor there but I love the contrast of the dress against her skin and hair.’ You say: ‘Ciara – low cut or hight cut, not both’ – @AsTimeGoesBy via Twitter (On Jessica) ‘Great dress, but makes her look like a wide load.’ (On Ciara) ‘Great hair, but low neckline & high hem too slutty.’ (On Paris) ‘Hot!’ […]

Has Kanye turned Kim into a demure goddess?

“Where have they gone?” I euphemistically and, rather rhetorically, ask myself every time I lay eyes on a post-‘Kimye’ Kim Kardashian. As the world became aware of the blossoming love between the blatant romance-deniers, I’ve become aware of Kim’s increasingly demure and understated wardrobe. A monochrome palette (similar to her beau’s); sleek cuts; ladylike peplums; below-the-knee dresses; sensible fashion choices at Cannes; copious amounts of uber-expensive-looking leather and cleavage concealing necklines have all made the rounds; and I’ve decided that I actually quite like the stylistically ‘born again’ Kim. Regularly seen in barely breathable, bust-enhancing, waist-reducing Hervé Léger bandage numbers, post divorce; Kim’s comeback as the Rapper’s Girlfriend hasn’t entirely been put down to personal effort. This is not to say I disliked Kim’s previous barely-there style, but I wonder if claims that dating Kanye West has improved her wardrobe actually hold any truth. Well, to figure that out, let’s begin with Kanye’s personal approach to style, his fashionable affiliations and, of course, his venture into fashion. Partial to a blazer, slouchy leather pants and eye-hurting sneakers, Kanye’s love of Givenchy, a blossoming friendship with creative director of said fashion house, Riccardo Tisci, and an eponymous fashion label with a rather dismal debut at Paris Fashion Week two seasons ago prove his fashionable inclinations. Given that, Kanye rather famously attended last month’s Met Ball sans Kim – a warning of sorts from the God of fashion, Anna Wintour, and the fact that Kim’s less-than-credible celebrity status – described in W magazine as the ‘fine art of playing herself – (a perfectly money-spinning method, may I add); does Kanye feel inclined to help bump up his beau’s credibility through influencing her style? Does he feel she’ll be taken ‘seriously’ by the inner circles of super-stardom if there’s more monochrome than major-boobage on […]

Rate or Slate Freida Pinto, Nelly Furtado and Brandy’s style choices?

This week’s Rate or Slate takes us to Cannes and the Billboard Music Awards. Of course, both major events, (ok, maybe the first one’s like the biggest every year!) demanded major fashion to impress! Freida Pinto showed up to day 3 of Cannes in a Salvatore Ferragamo cropped halter neck top and matching midi skirt. Oh, what we’d give to have abs like Freida’s! Nelly Furtado’s interesting choice of attire at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards raised a few eyebrows, as well as turning many heads! A peeping Tom black bra under her white Alberta Ferretti dress threw us a little, as did those batwing -esque earrings… Brandy channelled a Diana Ross vibe with her new hair in a Hervé Léger by Max Azria bandage dress for the 2012 Billboard Music Awards. Rose gold accents aplenty, we’re still deciding on this one… Style Jury, take it away! Fashion News Editor says: Freida Pinto: ‘This is probably my least favourite Freida look from Cannes so far. Having seen what she is capable of wearing, this is kind of a bland choice for the Cannes Film Festival. I also think the skirt drowns Freida’s petite frame.’ Nelly Furtado: ‘I’m in two minds about Nelly Furtado’s look. It’s a bit busy and I’m not crazy about the length. I’d say its borderline acceptable.’ Brandy: ‘I’m quite bored of the celebs busting out the Hervé Léger now – we know it looks good but it’s a failsafe choice that’s been overdone now. However…Brandy’s wild hair and her overall styling have saved what could have been a dull look, so it’s 100% rate for me.’ You say: ‘I love ‘em all’ – @googa_91 via Twitter ‘Brandy – I’m loving it’ – @RihBelle_Legold via Twitter Verdict: RATE to the power of one!
