Lana Del Rey returns for Nylon’s November issue

Well if it isn’t Lana Del Rey on the November cover of Nylon… If it wasn’t for our Mulberry Del Rey bag serving as a constant reminder, we might have forgotten all about her presence outside the music world. Luckily Lana Del Rey is back, and she is showing off her modelling credentials on the magazine cover and inside the editorial, proving that Next Model Management knew what they were talking about when they asked her to join their books at the beginning of last year. Lana talks to the mag about her roots, her new musical masterpiece (she may not have used those exact words but we are just guessing!) and knowing she hit the big time when she first penned Video Games… “I know when I wrote it, I was in love with it—I sent it to everyone, saying, ‘Look! This is me in song for,” she said about he song. “No one in my own circle had a very big reaction, but then Radio 1 started spinning it every day, and that’s when things really started to change.” So we guess we have Radio 1 to thank for bringing Lana Del Rey into our lives! You can read the rest of Lana’s interview in the November issue of Nylon.

Katy Perry is innocent/sexy school girl in Henry Holland

Katy Perry has that innocent yet sexy school girl mix down to a tee. She got geek chic so right a few years ago in her Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F) music video (and as it’s Friday, we might as well watch it once or twice to get prepared for the weekend ahead!) and her latest school girl look is just as successful. Katy made an appearance on the Jimmy Fallon show at the Rockerfeller Center in New York last night, and opted to wear an instantly recognisable collared religious top from the brand spanking new Henry Holland spring/summer 2014 collection, paired with a pleated leather Belstaff skirt, knee high socks and cute pigtails in her hair. Despite the innocence, we predict this look will drive a lot of boys wild. What do you think? Do you love it as much as we do or is Britney Spears the only female singer who can pull off the school girl look for you?

M.I.A Versus collaboration confirmed!

Looks like there was some truth in those MIA Versus rumours, as it’s just been confirmed that the London-born rapper has designed a 19-piece collection with the brand. The collection has reportedly been inspired by counterfeit Versace product such as the Medusa head and the Greek frieze, which we guess would be a very profitable silver lining. “I adore the energy of the street, so when MIA proposed to expose the issue of counterfeit Versace pieces by creating a collaboration inspired by these items, I thought it was an incredible idea,” Donatella Versace said. “The collection represents all that I love of the new Versus Versace: it’s fast, it’s noisy, it’s brazen and it blends the world of music with that of fashion. I can’t wait to see it worn.” The new collection will include menswear and womenswear, and will reportedly comprise of everything from t-shirts to dresses to military-inspired outwear and more. We can expect the collection to land on October 16th, so not long to wait at all! [Vogue]

Madonna is daring for Harper’s Bazaar US November

So apparently the Harper’s Bazaar US November is otherwise known as “The Daring Issue”, so it comes as no surprise to find one of the most daring musicians and fashion icons of our time on there. We are of course talking about the one and only Madonna! Madonna was photographed by Terry Richardson and styled by B Åkerlund, and is striking a series of fierce and fabulous poses on the cover as well as in the accompanying editorial. Inside the “Madonna by Madonna” editorial, you’ll find all sorts of quotes and anecdotes, including info on adopting her son David, her daring career choices, and even a reflection on her teenage years… “Most people thought I was strange. I didn’t have many friends; I might not have had any friends,” she reminisced. “But it all turned out good in the end, because when you aren’t popular and you don’t have a social life, it gives you more time to focus on your future. And for me, that was going to New York to become a REAL artist. “To be able to express myself in a city of nonconformists. To revel and shimmy and shake in a world and be surrounded by daring people.” Do you agree with her? You can read the rest of the interview and see more striking pics in the Harper’s Bazaar US November issue.

“I think it is better to be stylish than trendy” – Miley Cyrus, Fashion, November 2013

It doesn’t look like we can go a single day without something new from Miley Cyrus popping up; earlier this week we gushed over her Harper’s Bazaar magazine cover, yesterday we dissected her brand new music video in great detail, and today it’s all about her appearance on Fashion‘s November issue. Yes November issues are already been released -where has the time gone, eh? Miley was photographed by Chris Nicholls, and is rocking a Kufmanfranco dress for the striking, attention-grabbing front cover. Inside the mag, as well as posing for some gorgeous pictures (not a single poked-out tongue, foam finger or wrecking ball in sight) Miley opens up about that MTV VMA performance, her relationship with Liam Hemsworth, and her taste in fashion… “I can go through so many clothes say ‘no, that’s not me’ right away. I’m so adamant and controlling and OCD about my work that I can scare some people—especially when it comes to clothes,” she said. “I have a very specific style of my own and I think it is better to be stylish than trendy. I find vintage Celine or Chanel and mix it with athletic or vintage pieces makes a look modern and fresh. Vintage makes everything look punk.” And what about her Gwen-Stefani-esque outfit she wore while arriving at this year’s MTV VMAs?  “I found what I wore on the red carpet to the VMAs with Pharrell. It was a Dolce and Gabbana piece from 1992—the year I was born. He saw it and said, ‘you have to buy it.’ I think that outfit added a factor that the other girls couldn’t compete with. “Pharrell says it’s not about what you’re wearing; it’s the way you wear it. That was a lesson I took to heart. I think it is important that I […]

Taylor Swift vs. Heidi Klum…Who wore Kaufmanfranco better?

One dress, two women and a hoo-haa about who sauntered around in it more tastefully; welcome to our latest fash-off instalment, featuring a ‘bitter’ ex-girlfriend and a leggy model. OK, for fear of being too cryptic, we’ll reveal the deets: we spotted Taylor Swift and Heidi Klum in the same Kaufmanfranco spring 2013 dress, and we couldn’t help but level up the two beauties when it came to fashion cred. Kicking off 2013 at the 40 Principales Music Awards in Madrid, Taylor Swift took to the blue red carpet in said dress. Pairing it with Christian Louboutin Dufoura heels, a cocktail ring and her statement bangs, Swifty looked gorgeous in the thigh grazing number, sexed up with a deep illusion neckline. But going in for the kill was stunner Heidi Klum, who made a printed red carpet appearance for America’s Got Talent in the same dress. Opting for a swept back updo with face-framing tendrils; hoop earrings and Louboutin ankle-tie sandals finished off the look nicely. But whose look is a winner, we hear you say? Sizing up the style potential, we’re going with the never ending pins on this one – Heidi takes the crown! Although Taylor looks polished as ever, Heidi’s look is a little more ‘red carpet relaxed’ (yeah, that does exist), and those heels, winning. Agree with our dress-off verdict? [Images: Zimbio]

London’s secret fashion districts

London street style has dictated fashion trends through the ages, with plenty of iconic styles in each era tracing their roots back to the capital. A short walk around the city is more than enough to prove that quirky, individual and outrageous dressing is alive and well today – the only trick is knowing where to find it. If you’re looking for a brilliant fusion of vintage and modern styles, take a walk down Carnaby Street, best known for being a centre of both mod and hippie styles back in the 60s. Today you’ll find plenty of references to their illustrious style credentials, given a modern twist by the new trend-setters of the day. A short walk away near Regent Street is the Newburgh District, filled with boutique stores, high-fashion finds and up and coming designers. This is where you’ll find the future of fashion, with emerging stars beginning to make their mark on London’s shoppers. It’s also a great showcase for the capital’s diverse ethnic and cultural influences, with shops referencing 60s punk, tribal traditions, Bollywood glamour and even some Victoriana. Some of design’s more established names sit side by side with the new kids on the block, so this is the perfect place to head if you like to stay one step ahead of the fashion pack. Out towards the east of the city, you’ll find an edgier, grungier side emerging. Spitalfields Market sits nestled in a historical hotspot, hosting some of the most eclectic stores and stalls that London has to offer, and home to the hipster trend taking over teen fashion. There’s a great mix of contemporary and vintage fashion, so you’ve got a good chance of picking up a retro gem hidden among the stalls. Nearby in Brick Lane, you’ll find the city’s fashion students […]

Miley Cyrus in Burberry Prorsum for Harper’s Bazaar October

Well if it isn’t the all singing, all dancing, all twerking Miley Cyrus on the cover of October’s Harper’s Bazaar! Wearing a gorgeous Burberry Prorsum dress for the front cover, Miley is posing fiercely yet elegantly for Terry Richardson’s camera, looking liked a far more toned down version of herself. Well, more toned down than her recent MTV VMA performance, anyway. Miley opens up to the mag about her music, her professional and personal plans for the future, and whether she plans to take another stab at fashion designing after her Walmart line was discontinued… “I went in there and saw, like, a puppy on a T-shirt. I was like, ‘This is not what I wanted.’ I wanted skinny jeans, I wanted to bless Walmart with jeggings,” she said. “Making real stuff with high quality. Not quantity.” So will she be releasing something anytime soon? “Not until I know I can give it 120 percent. I don’t want to just slap my name on something.” Well at least she’s honest; we won’t give up hope completely though. You can read the rest of Miley’s interview in the October issue of Harper’s Bazaar.

Jourdan Dunn nails the festival look at V Festival

If you thought V Festival was all about the live music then you’re sorely mistaken. As with most events, it was of course all about the fashion, and both A-listers and non celeb festival goers alike pulled out all the sartorial stops for the weekend. It was a celeb, however, whose outfit caught our attention for all the right reasons… Jourdan Dunn was easily one of our best-dressed celebs of the weekend – on and off stage – as her simple but festival appropriate attire really ticked all our boxes! JD showed off her svelte catwalk model body by donning some cute denim cut-off shorts, and made everyone green with envy by displaying her toned tummy courtesy of a shredded crop top. The fringed boots really gave her look the essential festival vibe, but she stayed ultra glamorous by opting for voluminous hair and dramatic eyes. Festival style done right! [Image]

H&M pulls “offensive” Native American headdress

You’d have thought the Victoria’s Secret Indian headdress hoopla that happened last year would have made brands a bit more cautious… but that isn’t the case. H&M has pulled a feathered Native American inspired headpiece from its festival range after receiving complaints. “Headdresses are worn by chiefs in some of our communities,” said Kim Wheeler, an Ojibwa-Mohawk from Winnipeg, Manitoba. “It is a symbol of respect and honour and should not be for sale as some sort of cute accessory. People in my community have kind of been fighting that whole ‘hipster headdressing’ for a while now. “You wouldn’t find a colourful hijab or a colourful yarmulke on the shelves as some sort of fashion accessory to wear out to a nightclub or to a music festival.” H&M has since pulled the item from hits collection, with a spokesperson saying that “we never want to offend anybody or come off as insensitive. We’re always about being there for our customers.” Where do you stand? [Telegraph]

“I have one of the best jobs in the world” – Solange Knowles, The Edit

Net-a-Porter’s The Edit is up there with the best of them when it comes to creating powerful covers. The latest issue features none other than Solange Knowles on the cover, and to say it’s breathtaking would be a complete understatement. Looking like a dead ringer for her older sister Beyonce, Solange – complete with a very lengthy barnet – poses pretty on the beach showing off her figure and the newest beach threads. We particularly love the royal blue maxi J Crew dress she is rocking on the front cover! The 27-year-old singer and style maven opened up to the mag about her latest projects, her music sound, and collaborating with big sis Bey… “I don’t think any part of myself as an artist has ever had a moment of intention execution,” she began. “It’s all just been an evolution. I’ve been able to watch such an incredible performer as my sister close-up. It’s molded me. And now I’m letting my son watch me. “I’m having the time of my life. I have one of the best jobs in the world, and to be able to [perform] for an hour a day and make a career out of it, I’m incredibly humbled by it.” Click here to read more from her interview, see more pics, and of course, find out where to shop the pieces in the editorial shoot.

Vanessa Hudgens, we love your style!

Former High School Musical beauty (and Ashley Tisdale BFF) Vanessa Hudgens came to visit us here in London a few weeks ago, and we found ourselves somewhat besotted with her outfit choices. Then of course we got to reminiscing about her sartorial choices of the past and were once again besotted. Whether she goes boho chic, red carpet glam or is just popping out to the gym, Vanessa really does have it going on in the wardrobe department. Here are five of our favourite V-Hudge outfits: 1.– Vanessa visited our fine capital a few weeks ago, and her white hot outfit by Catherine Malandrino definitely got us talking for all the right reasons. In fact, it’s pretty much what inspired this list in the first place! A boho beauty in Blighty, we’d say! 2.– Akin to a lot of child actresses Vanessa is keen to show that she is all grown up, and nothing says “I’m a gorgeous 24 year old, hear me roar!” better than this plunging sequin Jenny Packham gown which Vanessa wore to the Golden Globes After Party earlier this year. 3.– She started her career on Disney, so the fact that she likes to channel the classic fairytale princess from time to time doesn’t surprise us. Despite her being in a bikini for a lot of the show, Vanessa went for more elegant ensembles for the Spring Breakers promo tour… and this pink Notte by Marchesa dress was our favourite by a mile! Modern day princess, for sure! 4.– Despite having a figure most people would die for, Vanessa doesn’t always feel the need to flash the flesh. She loves to showcase her body in a subtle and elegant way, and this Alice and Olivia dress that she wore on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno […]

My Fashion Life visits Bern, Switzerland

Imagine having an app for all aspects of uncharted territory in life; from how to navigate your first day at secondary school, to battling boardroom blues at the new work place, and even how to survive a nerve-racking first date? So, when we were invited by the Total Media team to test drive the Make My Switzerland app, ahead of its official launch, in the beautiful capital of Switzerland, Bern, we jumped at the chance. Our penchant for luxury watches and fine chocolate aside, we were excited to put the app to the test, which has been created by the Swiss Tourism Board in conjunction with local ambassadors representing the various cities the app covers. Here’s our low-down on the app, and our time in Bern: The city Unlike most capital cities, Bern is knows for its laid-back take on life. With the average walking speed of Bernese people at a relaxed 1.5m/sec, they’re in no rush. And, frankly, we don’t blame them – the city is beautiful! Situated an hour’s train ride away from Zurich airport, transport links are great, and purchasing a Swiss Pass is the easiest (and cheapest) option when using public transport. Home to 100 fresh water fountains; a bear park, which is very popular with tourists; six kilometres of shopping arcades; the refreshing River Aare for an exhilarating swim; Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity, and the founding place of world-famous Toblerone chocolate, we couldn’t wait to work our way around the cultural hotspot using the app. The app The Make My Switzerland app allows tourists in Switzerland (and locals alike) to get the most out of the Swiss city they’re visiting. Covering Bern, Zurich, Lugano, Geneva, Basel, Lausanne and Lucerne, the app is split into four ‘moods’: cultural, social, stylish and active. Depending on your city, […]

British holidaymakers reveal their biggest beach bugbears

You might think your highly anticipated beach holiday is exactly what the doctor ordered; sun, sea, a cheeky cocktail… paradise, right? Wrong! Although a beach holiday can indeed be relaxing, it doesn’t come without its annoyances. Leading online travel agent On the Beach conducted a survey of over 16,000 British holidaymakers to find out what ticked them off on the beach, and the results were pretty interesting! Unsurprisingly, beach sellers came top of the list as the number one biggest bugbear (after all, we don’t want our precious tanning time interrupted, do we?), with littering, smoking and loud music respectively following. We definitely don’t want other people’s cigarette smoke or chocolate bar wrappers flying in our faces while sunbathing, and it looks like the Brits surveyed felt the same way. Nice to know we’re all on the same page. What else did the survey reveal then? 9% of people surveyed said that bugs ruined their beach experience, while only 1% said that nudity bothered them, which we actually find quite surprising considering our conventional prudish nature. “We are renowned as a nation of prudes, especially compared to some of our more liberal European neighbours, yet our results show that Brits are no longer offended by nudity, so it would seem this stereotype is somewhat obsolete,” said Alistair Daly, Chief Marketing Officer at On the Beach. So that’s annoying “things” out the way, what about annoying “people”? Who did the Brits surveyed find the most irritating? It turns out they were quite hard on themselves, as one in four found holidaymakers from the UK the most annoying nationality of traveller in-resort. Only one in ten Brits pointed the finger at the Germans, and even fewer blame was directed at the French. “The results also suggest dated opinions of other nations are […]

Gisele still Forbes Most Powerful model

The 2013 Forbes 100 Most Powerful Celebrities list has just been released, and once again Gisele Bündchen has found herself on top as far as models were concerned, securing the 81st spot. Pretty impressive considering how many models – iconic and up-and-coming – she had to beat off. Aussie Miranda Kerr came in at number 100. Unsurprisingly, Oprah Winfrey topped the entire list for the fifth year, but Lady Gaga came a very close second, with Beyonce securing the very respectable fourth spot. We can definitely see how those three ladies have influenced the world! Music queens Madonna, Taylor Swift and Rihanna came fifth, sixth and 13th respectively, while MFL fave actresses Jennifer Lawrence, Angelina Jolie, Kristen Stewart, Gwnyneth Paltrow, Emma Stone and Meryl Streep also secured places on the list. Is there anyone you think Forbes left out? [Forbes]

During a candid interview with W magazine, Kanye revealed that an unnamed fashion designer only let him attend his show on the premise that he wouldn’t attend any more. And that made Kanye mad. So mad that he joined forces with Daft Punk and penned a song entitled I Am a God. Humble as ever, we see! “I went to the studio with Daft Punk, and I wrote I Am a God,” he said. “Cause it’s like, Yo! Nobody can tell me where I can and can’t go. Man, I’m the No. 1 living and breathing rock star. I am Axl Rose; I am Jim Morrison; I am Jimi Hendrix. You can’t say that you love music and then say that Kanye West can’t come to your show. To even think they could tell me where I could and couldn’t go is just ludicrous. It’s blasphemous—to rock ’n’ roll, and to music. How can someone stop my opportunity to see something that he can teach me, that I can help teach the world?” Erm, quite! Still, the interview wasn’t just a Kanye rant. He did spill the beans on his latest fashion project with an as yet unnamed French brand, and we’re actually looking forward to what he has in store. “I have to somehow put out something that says, ‘I look sensible’”, he said. “That sensible something is set to be a new men’s capsule collection of jeans, T-shirts and hoodies for a hip French brand that will be unveiled in July.” Hmmm… what’s he got up his sleeve? Only time will tell. Are you excited? Confused? Scared? Us too! [Grazia] [Image]

Adele and My Wardrobe founder honoured on Queen’s Birthday List

2013 is definitely Adele’s year. As if winning an Oscar for her James Bond theme song Skyfall wasn’t enough, she has now been awarded an MBE for her services to music as part of the Queen’s Birthday honours list. How is she going to top this year, eh? Adele wasn’t the only one smiling over the weekend, though– there were plenty of famous fashion faces on the list too. GQ editor and ‘London Collections: Men’ chairman Dylan Jones got an OBE, as did Telegraph writer Hilary Alexander, while My Wardrobe founder Sarah Curran was awarded an MBE for services to the fashion industry. “I am really proud to have been awarded an MBE,” Sarah said. “It was a real shock and quite surreal. This recognition has only been achieved with the help and support of the amazing my-wardrobe.com team, past and present.” Congrats, guys! [Vogue]

Taylor Momsen signs to Next Models

After her Gossip Girl character Jenny ‘Little J’ Humphrey was dropped from the show, it’s all been a bit quiet on the old Taylor Momsen front. (She does have her band The Pretty Reckless which she is the frontwoman of, but it’s not really our cup of tea…) Models on the other hand are our cup of tea, which is why we’re quite excited to learn that she has just been signed to Next Model Management – one of the biggest agencies in the world – who has the likes of Alexa Chung, Jessica Alba, Rita Ora and Lana Del Rey in its books. “I’m excited about my new relationship with Next Models,” she said. “Next has great vision, and will be a fantastic partner in furthering both my music and fashion.” 19-year-old Taylor is no newbie in the modelling world, as she already has some impressive modelling gigs under her belt; she was the face of Madonna and Lourdes’ Material Girl clothing line and has appeared in ad campaigns for New Look and a John Galliano fragrance. We wonder what her first big project will be… [Telegraph]

Myleene Klass is petal pretty in Hyde Park

On some people, a bright floral fitted dress might look a bit like a table-cloth; luckily for Myleene Klass, she isn’t one of those people… The British musician turned businesswoman looked bloomin’ beautiful as she attended the ‘Big If’ event in Hyde Park at the weekend, wearing a cute, colorful floral bustier dress from her own collection. (Click here to check it out and snap it up before it sells out!) Myleene definitely knows a thing or two (or three or four) about accessorising, hence why she teamed her dress with a matching shade of bright lippie that complemented the colours perfectly. She couldn’t have picked a better shade if she tried! She finished off her look with an un-distracting pair of nude heels and her healthy signature wavy locks. Petal perfect, we’d say; flower power at its finest! [Image]

Nicole Scherzinger vs. Louise Roe: Who wore Mara Hoffman better?

Ah, the arrival of summer can only mean a flurry of envy-inducing, bod-hugging dresses that leave us wondering why we cancelled that gym membership. But then again, we could just forget about the ab crunches and instead talk about this week’s ensuing fash-off between two dress doyennes. In the battle of the dresses this week, both Nicole Scherzinger and Louise Roe took a liking to the Mara Hoffman shield print maxi dress, and gave us two very stylish looks. Scherzy stepped out in the Mara Hoffman maxi in Monaco, to support beau Lewis Hamilton at the 2013 Monaco Grand Prix. Making the most of the glorious sunshine, Nicole styled the dress with studded flat sandals, oversized sunnies and a classic Hermès Kelly bag. Beating Hamilton’s missus to it was Louise Roe, who sported the very same dress to the Rolling Stone magazine American Music Awards VIP after party, back in November 2012. Bringing a splash of print to the red carpet, Ms. Roe styled her look with a nude box clutch and statement earrings. But whose look takes the prize? Although both ladies styled the shield print maxi dress to perfection for the events they were attending; we’re giving this week’s fash-off champ title to…Nicole Scherzinger! We’re a little sensitive to the wintry climes at present, and anything that reminds us of an easy, breezy holiday wardrobe is a winner. Nicole’s look is perfect for a sun splashed outdoor event, and although Louise looked fab, too, the pretty print and summery colour is wasted on the red carpet. Do you agree? Cara Delevingne for Saint Laurent Paris AW13 campaign

Cara Delevingne has got yet another ad campaign under her belt, and it’s a big one: Saint Laurent Paris! Yep the 20-year-old Brit model of the moment/year/generation has been chosen for the brand’s autumn/winter 2013 campaign, and she should feel extra-special because it’s new creative director Hedi Slimane’s first ever AW campaign since his appointment. Although we have no doubts that she could hold the entire campaign by herself, she isn’t the only star to be chosen; she is in fact joined by musician Cole Smith from the band DIIV. Cole Smith’s inclusion doesn’t really surprise us as Hedi Slimane is partial to using famous musical faces in his campaigns. Remember the controversial, somewhat confusing but inarguably brilliant casting of Marilyn Manson in the Saint Laurent Paris menswear ad? You can watch Cara and Cole in action in the video below. What do you think? http://youtu.be/vqYi_klcjqc

Trend alert: 1920’s Jewellery

Roaring Twenties The Roaring Twenties describes an era in time filled with style and glamour. This time also gave birth to the ‘flapper’; a young Western woman seeking all the pleasures and excitement that this decade had to offer. With short skirts, bobbed hair and fancy jewellery jiving to the era’s Jazz music, this new woman encapsulated the cultural ‘look’ of the 1920’s. Style and glamour go hand in hand with picking the perfect jewels to wear. Art Deco played an important role within styling in the 1920’s. ‘Art Deco’ represented many things of the era and affected all forms of design that we still see to this day. Designers borrowed from historic European styles, contemporary Avant Garde art and imagery of the machine age; seen in the clean lines that hold the colour of many Art Deco pieces. They also incorporated ancient cultures within designs such as the arts of Africa and East Asia which provided the rich colours and materials (http://www.vam.ac.uk). The Great Gatsby Art Deco styles in jewellery from that era can be seen in ‘The great Gatsby’, Baz Luhrman’s film adaptation of the F.Scott Fitzgerald novel. The jewellery worn by the actress’ are pieces based upon jewellery of the 1920’s; with the strings of pearls and diamonds that are layered in bracelets, necklaces and drop earrings. The headpieces worn in the film are an iconic accessory to the flapper. All the jewellery in the film was designed by Tiffany & Co. who are now featuring ‘The Great Gatsby Collection’ of Art Deco jewellery pieces from the film. The Twenties Collection Within most of the Art Deco jewellery designs pearls play an important part; offering a luxurious coating of creams to any outfit. The luxury jewellery brand, Jersey Pearl, have Art Deco designs in their jewellery with […]

Victoria’s Secret model Erin Wasson for Rihanna’s Styled to Rock

Rihanna’s Styled to Rock definitely isn’t getting axed – and to prove it, the gorgeous Victoria’s Secret model Erin Wasson and music star Pharrell Williams have been tapped as judges for the US version of the show. “As a leading model and mainstay in the fashion industry, Erin’s unapologetic approach to fashion and free-spirited style will give the Styled to Rock designers invaluable insight,” said Salaam Coleman Smith, a spokesperson of Style Media. “With Rihanna as executive producer and Pharrell and Erin as mentors, our designers will gain incredible experience while also being challenged in new ways as they compete to earn the title of America’s next trendsetting designer.” Nicola Roberts and Henry Holland were the judges on the UK version which aired on Sky Living last year, and although we couldn’t fault their contributions to the show, we can see why the producers brought in a Victoria’s Secret babe to try and boost ratings. Fingers crossed it goes down well with the American crowd! [Vogue]

Cannes Film Festival 2013: Weekend highlights

Zuhair Murad had a pretty impressive run at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards at the weekend, dressing Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Swift and Emmy Rossum – and the designer showed no signs of slowing down in Cannes either, as Cheryl Cole strutted her stuff on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet in one of his stunning designs. Jennifer Lawrence stayed faithful to Raf Simons by donning a number of Christian Dior pieces for various appearances over the weekend, but our favourite definitely has to be the white number above. It brings out all of Jen’s wonderful features, embraces the spring/summer season (even though it came from the autumn/winter 2013 catwalk), and brings a modern edge to the traditional glamorous Cannes red carpet. And speaking of traditional Cannes… Nicole Kidman continued to wow the crowd with her sartorial choices, as she looked the epitome of chic, glamorous perfection in a floor-length L’Wren Scott number. And last but certainly not least on our Cannes best-dressed roundup is model Doutzen Kroes, who showed that it is possible to steal the show in simpler designs too – just look at her sleek white Calvin Klein Collection dress for proof. Can the red carpet get better? Come back tomorrow to find out!

Rita Ora is the new £500K face of Material Girl

It’s not just the music industry Rita Ora is taking over – she’s also all over the fashion world too. Rita is already the face of Superga, but it looks like she’s going to have an other set of ad campaigns under her belt, as its just been reported that she has signed a £500,000 deal to be the face of Material Girl – the clothing line Madonna and her daughter Lourdes founded. “Lourdes has been a fan of Rita for a while and has been to many of her gigs. She persuaded her mum to see her,” a source allegedly told The Sun. “They met at the Met Ball in New York last week and Madonna admired Rita’s attitude so signed the idea off. “Rita jumped at the chance because she’s such a fan of the Queen Of Pop. She also hopes it will help her crack the States in the same way she has the UK.” Previous faces of the line include Talyor Momsen, Kelly Osbourne and Georgia May Jagger – we think Rita Ora will fit in rather nicely, don’t you?

‘Amy Winehouse: A Family Portrait’ exhibit coming to London!

Entitled Amy Winehouse: A Family Portrait, the exhibit will celebrate her life and career, and will run from July 3rd until September 15th at the Jewish Museum in Camden. [Vogue]

Katy Perry vs. Selena Gomez: Who wore Dolce & Gabbana better?

When we saw the spring/summer 2013 delight that was the Dolce & Gabbana show spill onto the runway, we couldn’t wait to see the A-listers snap up the tropical prints for when the barometer went up. And safe to say, we weren’t disappointed. Style darlings, Selena Gomez and Katy Perry, both opted to put their spin on the same bustier top from the Dolce & Gabbana spring 2013, and both looked equally exotic in their own right! Bieber’s beau was up first, pairing the printed, midriff baring bustier top with a high-waisted orange pencil skirt and nude Giuseppe Zanotti pumps at the 2013 SXSW Music, Film + Interactive Festival premiere for Spring Breakers, back in March. Glossy, side-swept curls, strong eyes and a popping coral lip polished off Selena’s look nicely. Making merry at the Lacoste L!ve 4th annual desert pool party last month was a girl after our own hearts, in the most summer-tastic outfit imaginable! Soaking up the rays at the event, which was held during Coachella, Katy Perry paired the bustier top with a playfully printed skirt from the same collection. White platform shoes, statement earrings, sunnies and a vintage Lulu Guinness bag completed Katy’s look. Now, after digesting so much print and eye-popping colour, we’ve got the tough task of deciding who takes this week’s fash-off champ title. And…Selena Gomez has done it for us this week! Although we absolutely approve of Katy’s all-out take on the Dolce look, those chunky platform heels don’t really do it for us. Selena’s sharp and sleek styling is perfect, not to mention making us squirm thinking about working towards that beach bod! Her minimal accessories won us over, as with Katy’s look, there’s just too much going on. Agree with our fash-off verdict? Who wins for you?

Downton Abbey the clothing line is happening!

Looks like television show/film clothing lines aren’t as niche as we initially thought, as Downton Abbey is the latest programme to launch its own collection. Does this excite you? “We’ll be working across an entire range of products coming out this year,” said the show’s executive producer Gareth Nearne. “From fashion, apparel and homeware and furniture to wallpapers, beauty products and stationery. Some of these things have been available since 2012 – we publish books and have made a music album, but the more complex products take time.” Do we think a collection inspired by the early 1900’s will be a big hit? Well, if you like the chic and ladylike dresses that Michelle Dockery and Maggie Smith’s characters wear in the show then we predict you’ll like the range very much. There’s no word on when and where the collection will be available just yet, or what prices will be like, but we’ll keep you posted as soon as we know more! [Vogue] [Image]

Holiday checklist: What to pack and what not to pack!

Is your girlfriend packing everything under (and maybe even including) the kitchen sink for your upcoming summer holiday? Don’t shake your heads and fists too much, because we know that men can also fall victim to packing too much – and the wrong things – for their holidays. This is why we’ve compiled a helpful travel essential list for you, so you can save room in your suitcase for all the souvenirs (read: cheap booze) on the way back. You’re welcome. Not to pack: Too many jeans. Denim takes up more room in your suitcase than you’d think, so only take two pair of jeans at most. We suggest one light colour and one dark colour for maximum mix-and-matching potential. Opt for chinos and board shorts instead! Camera. Bit of a nightmare, the camera. You’ll need to pack batteries, chargers, worry about memory cards and water damage etc… the list is practically endless. Use your phone instead to capture those fine holiday moments. Electric toothbrush and shavers. Believe it or not, the world functioned quite well without electric toothbrushes and shavers, so you can manage a few weeks without them too. You never know what electrical sockets are going to be available to you, so don’t run the risk of packing them for no reason! Hair products – we know you’re not as particular with your hair products as the ladies are, so don’t waste precious suitcase room with heavy shampoos and hair gels. These are cheap enough to buy on holiday (or use the ones provided in the hotel) and you can avoid the risk of them exploding all over your clothes. Aftershave. Believe it or not, your favourite aftershave will smell different on holiday than it does in your own country. Plus, you might find it really overpowering […]

Tulisa out, Sharon Osbourne in at X Factor UK

We guess we can wave goodbye to those Nicole Scherzinger v Tulisa Contostavlos style wars we had during last years X Factor, then. Nicole seemed to win most of them anyway, so maybe it’s for the best. Yep, apparently the rumours are true, Tulisa will no longer be a judge on our favourite ITV musical talent show, and she is due to be replaced by former X Factor judge Sharon Osbourne. How do you all feel about this? “Sharon will be an X Factor judge and it is only a matter of days before the deal is finalised,” a source reportedly said. “She is being paid a hefty sum of £2 million as Cowell is desperate to have her on the show. “She is also expecting to earn half a million more in book and publishing deals. There is no way she would turn down such a well-paid job.” We hope daughter Kelly – who has turned into quite the style maven these past few years – will help her mother rock a killer wardrobe and give Nicole a run for her money. We’re excited; are you? [Mirror]

Kate Bosworth’s Topshop festival collection

Ever since she was unveiled as the mystery woman behind that “who’s that girl” Christmas ad campaign, Kate Bosworth’s professional relationship with Topshop has just kept on expanding. Her latest project with the high street store? A festival collection apparently! We’d like to point out that she didn’t actually design the piece herself like some of the other celeb-meets-high street collections out there, but she did have quite a bit of “creative input”, whatever that means. “The design team and I thought a lot about the festival season, and, particularly with this collection, a lot of it was about the California girl,” she said. “Obviously the perfect place to wear it was Coachella.” According to reports, “the 360 degree campaign involves music, clothes, film, journeys and the attitude and energy of British festivals,” and we can expect to see more unfold later on in the year. Sounds pretty cool to us, what say you?

Spike Island – The Film: No-one knows what’s happened to it, but here’s what to do whilst you’re waiting.

Spike Island, the big screen representation of the iconic 1990s Stone Roses gig, was set to be released on 5th April 2013. It wasn’t, no one knows why, but like a cool and aloof front man, it seems it will only be released when it’s good and ready. What was that…you’d got yourself all fired up to relive the glorious ‘Madchester ‘scene? Well, here are a few things to pass the time until you can immerse yourself in Spike Island completely. Wear dungarees The decades will melt away as soon as you clip your extended jeans over your shoulder and onto your chest. They take some time to get used to, but it’s well worth it when you sink back into the nineties sporting the original ‘onesie’ craze. For guys, start purchasing all clothing at least two sizes too big. Everything was baggy in the nineties; no one really knows why, but heck, it was comfy. Swagger This will take some practice, and it’s not something you can go into without proper preparation. You’ve seen the swagger; a particular sway that’s still prevalent across the bars of Manchester, and you’ve probably also seen the ones who couldn’t quite get it right, the ones who get sniggers, tuts and waves of pity wherever they go. You don’t want to be that guy. For complete Spike Island nostalgia; work on your swagger, the walk and the attitude, to get you into the swing of things in time for the release. Button Up Another fail-proof way to scream ‘Stone Roses’ biggest fan’, or just to get involved at all, is to button up. The nineties loved high neck shirts, jackets and coats – all of which would be buttoned snugly round the neck. We doubt it was to keep warm, more likely that […]

So, enjoy both videos and make sure you vote below and tell us whose commercial had you dancing the most, and more importantly, had you longing for an ice cold carbonated beverage. Beyonce’s Pepsi ad – set to the tune of Grown Woman – will definitely set male pulses racing, while the ladies will want to bust a few moves around the living room as they relive some of their favourite parts of the Bootylicious singer’s career.  http://youtu.be/ESV5YAp2e5s Taylor Swift’s Diet Coke version is also pretty special, as the young country musician is seen penciling in some crucial song lyrics, while a happy driver seemingly enjoys the finished product which just so happens to be her song 22.  [poll id=”397″]

But when that amazing class you booked looms suddenly around the corner, will you have any clue of what to wear? It’s one thing being comfortable but it’s another being stylish and confident in what you’re wearing. Basically, in order to be a pro, you need to look like one first. Aerobics Aerobics is a popular choice for women who like routines and motivating music.
