Beyonce’s busting out the designer labels in Paris

If you didn’t know Paris was the style capital of the world, you could have made a darn good guess after Beyonce’s visit last week. On a brief break in the City of Light with hubby Jay-Z, the couple made more than their fair share of rare public appearances doing regular things like eating and shopping, but they mixed it with some irregular stuff that only the rich can do like wear a different designer outfit every day from collections that aren’t even available yet and pose for upcoming issues of fashion glossies (she’s wearing Gucci for Harper’s Bazaar above, FYI). Good old Bey, when she’s back, she sure as hell lets you know it. See below for five of the fab outfits she showcased on her trip, and tell us which is your favourite look in the poll below. Isabel Marant AW10 We already raved about Beyonce’s printed silk dress from Isabel Marant’s AW10 collection, which she expertly paired with McQueen fishbone platforms and a black crocodile Balmain bag, but it’s well worth a second mention here. Roland Mouret Next outing, next outfit, this time a black dungaree romper by Roland Mouret teamed with artfully messy hair and a pair of strappy platforms for a chic stroll along the streets. Marc Jacobs AW11 Taking a decidedly lady-like direction, Bey opted for a green and red polka dot dress from Marc Jacobs’ AW11 collection to celebrate Easter, this time swapping statement footwear for a pair of classic Louboutin pumps and her trusty Balmain bag. Isabel Marant AW11 Another look from Isabel Marant, this time a dusty pink leather jacket from the French label’s AW11 collection that she teamed with casual cargo shorts and those Daffodil Louboutins for a sleek everyday look (save the 6.5 inch heels). Balmain Probably our least […]

Update: what everyone else will be wearing at the royal wedding

So the Beckhams have flown in to town for the Royal wedding, which means if you’re not excited already, it’s time to get suitably stoked. And if there’s one thing we’re more almost as excited about as what Kate will wear, it’s what the guests will pull out – especially as Victoria‘s been stressing over dressing her bump. So if you missed what everyone else will be wearing to the royal wedding, here’s an update: Victoria Beckham – she’s not spilled the beans, but it’s more than likely she’ll wear one of her own designs with a hat courtesy of millinery friend Philip Treacy.   Anya Hindmarch – the designer’s chosen a chic and classic look from Emilia Wickstead.   Tamara Mellon – her dress is unknown, but she’ll be wearing Jimmy Choo shoes, naturally.   Camilla Duchess of Cornwall – Camilla will be wearing a dress by Anna Valentine, the designer who created her wedding dress in 2005 when she married Prince Charles.   Sara Parker-Bowles -SPB will be wearing a look from London-based designer Osman.   Viscountess Serena Linley – lucky girl, she’ll be wearing Roland Mouret with Manolo Blahnik shoes, an Anya Hindmarch clutch and a hat by Stephen Jones.   Lady Helen Taylor – she’s chosen a dress from fashion favourite Erdem   Chelsea Davy – Prince Harry’s ex (yes!) will be wearing Italian label Alberta Ferretti.

Kids’ Choice Awards 2011: Best Dressed

Every year the celebs turn out in full force to celebrate the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles, and whilst it might not be the Oscars, it doesn’t stop the attendees upping the fashion stakes in fantastic form. With such a young and cool atmosphere, heavy long gowns and Chopard jewels were out in favour of fresh, youthful looks at this year’s 24th awards, all set for the spring season ahead. We’ve scoured the orange carpet for pictures of our favourite fashionistas from the weekend’s ceremony, so without further ado, here are the emerging style setters that stole the show at the 2011 Kids’ Choice Awards. Welcome to our top 10 best dressed list… Selena Gomez Selena was a real winner on the night in this outfit. Her Christian Cota shorts and top combo looked fantastic paired with her electric blue Camilla Skovgaard strappy sandals. Fresh, young and the best dressed on the night. Miley Cyrus Miley looked fresh and summery in her colourful strapless dress by Dolce and Gabbana. She can sometimes dress too old for her age on the red carpet, but this look is perfectly appropriate. Pixie Lott Pixie looks cute and playful is this adorable Miu Miu dress. The heart print and quirky collar give her an edge over many of the other looks seen on the night. Black strappy shoes and a long black shoulder bag complete her look. Kim Kardashian Kim showed off her killer curves in this Azzedine Alaia white ruffled dress. The colour looks great against her skin tone and she accessorized well with a beautiful Adriana Castro python clutch. This is definitely one of the most carefree looks we’ve seen from Kim in a while. Heidi Klum Heidi looked effortlessly chic in this fantastically-embellished Gucci mini dress. The spiky detailing gives a […]

Introducing Capulet: luxe leather laptop cases you’ll love

Pretty soon, we’re going to need a case for our lives – we’ve got one for everything else, right? iPhones, BlackBerrys, netbooks, laptops and iPads (thanks Apple) – the list of techy accessories is growing by the minute, but it’s not enough just to own one, it needs to look the part, too. So what do you do when you need your technology to look as slick as your style? Well, our favourite designers are reacting to the technology boom. From Marc Jacobs’ playful arty prints and DVF’s pretty patterns to Stella McCartney’s slick Falabella and Jimmy Choo’s chic covers, there’s a whole host of suitably stylish cases to fit every accessory and occasion. Then again, you probably knew that. What you may not know, however, is that an independent label is creating some of the most covetable cases out there. Capulet is a London-based luxury accessories label that designs its luxe leather laptop cases, made from premium Italian calf leather, in Spain – and it’s just launched its latest collection of covers for the iPad 2, FYI. These sleek clutch-style cases come in a range of sizes to fit your laptops, kindles and iPads and boast the sort of high fashion finishes you’d expect to find on your handmade handbag – classic clean shapes, colour splashes, snakeskin print and suede interior all included. Frankly, we’re wondering why anyone would want to waste these beautiful designs on a computer when their clean-cut minimalism would make a perfect clutch, but we’re all for double usage. Prices start at £240 for an iPad 2 case and go up to £274 for a large laptop case – check them out at capuletlondon.com.

Grammys 2011 best dressed: Giuliana Rancic

E! news presenter Giuliana Rancic rocked up early to the red carpet last night to interview stars as they arrived – but we reckon she deserves a mention herself. Steep vs Cheap: Camel knee high boots

Thigh high and knee-length boots have come a long way since Julia Roberts donned a rather tacky patent pair in Pretty Woman, so thank the Lord designers have given us an abundance of ultra stylish heeled booties for us to choose from this autumn. And naturally, we’ve gone for the colour flavour of the moment… camel. This pair of Jimmy Choo Eden suede pull-on boots may set you back £725, but come on, they are Jimmy Choos, after all. The classic city girl finish allows you to incorporate them into your everyday look by simply teaming them with an oversized sweater or a pair of skinny jeans. What more could you ask for? Well, a cheaper alternative, we suppose. Currently gracing the shoe-shelves of designer discount favourite theOutnet is this pair of slouchy suede knee high boots by MICHAEL Michael Kors for just £115. Now they may be a darker shade of camel, but remember ladies, camel comes in all different shades and styles this season, so if you want to be a little unconventional and opt for a darker toffee tone for autumn, you won’t regret it. Whether you’re save or splurge suede girl, you’re guaranteed to be the ultimate trend-setter this season with a pair of knee high camel boots. To buy Jimmy Choo’s Eden boots, £725, shop here, or if you’d rather MICHAEL Michael Kors’ cheaper alternatives from theOutnet.com at £115 then shop here.

Cheryl Cole in Astley Clarke at Glamour’s Woman of the Year Awards

Aside from that rather embarrassing feud between host, James Corden and British actor Patrick Stewart, there was only one thing (or lady, we should say) that people were talking about after the 2010 Glamour Woman of the Year Awards. And that lady, dear friends, was Cheryl Cole. Scooping the top prize of ‘Woman of the Year’ at London’s Berkeley Square Gardens, Cole picked up her award in a bespoke, lingerie-inspired Julien Macdonald dress, embellished JImmy Choos and a glitzy silver clutch from VBH. Not one to be out-shined, Cole opted for more sparkle with the Harlequin ring (see below) from luxury jeweller, Astley Clarke. Made with a pale green amethyst, white diamonds and 18ct yellow gold, this show-stopper of a cocktail ring added instant bling to Cole’s already stunning ensemble. Bec Astley Clarke, founder and managing director of Astley Clarke, said: ‘We were delighted that Cheryl decided to wear Astley Clarke fine jewellery for the Glamour Woman of the Year Awards. Cheryl is always dressed impeccably and part of this look is the amazing way she enhances these outfits with beautiful jewellery. The Delacorte Collection is a beautiful celebration of old time glamour and this is our favourite cocktail ring.’ So, fancy splashing out on the Harlequin ring? It’ll cost a few pretty pennies: £2,395 from Astley Clarke.

Fashion’s Night Out – London

While the Fashion’s Night Out event organised by Vogue in New York may have attracted most of the media attention, here in London the event was equally fun and a unique opportunity to meet some of our favourite designers and fashion icons. With so many designers about, this was not an occasion to dress down for, but the champagne and cocktails being served in almost every shop taking part certainly helped ease the pain of walking around Mayfair for three hours in stupidly high heels. For me the highlight of the night was talking to three of my favourite men in fashion – Christopher Kane, Osman Yousefzada and Rupert Sanderson. Sanderson, who is also celebrating three years of residency in Bruton Place, cleared away all of his beautiful shoes to turn his shop into a painting studio. Guests were invited to paint a white square of card and all the squares will be laid out on the nearby Berkley Square to create the largest high heel ever which Sanderson will photograph from a helicopter, sending signed prints to all the participants. Dressed in pilot-style khaki overalls, Sanderson seemed to be having a good time and was completely lovely. Why was his event not focused on selling shoes? He wanted to do something fun and this was the first thing that popped into his head, a celebration of shoes and “our manor” (the London equivalent of “his hood”). Then it was on the Bruton Street to Juicy Couture, Diane von Furstenburg, Matthew Williamson, Stella McCartney and Kenzo.  With so many lovely clothes and people to look at and champagne on offer in all of the stores, it was hard not to feel like spending money. And that was pretty much the point of the evening. Poor Matthew Williamson was unable to […]

Freida liberates Liberty of London

Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto is fast becoming one of our favourite fashion lovelies. She seems to ooze effortless style and always gets it right. Chosen to reopen Liberty of London on Sunday, Freida looked gorgeous in a Dries Van Noten gown and Jimmy Choo shoes, not forgetting the obligatory Liberty of London clutch. The Liberty Renaissance has got us fashion lovers all of a flutter, it is the department store. Forget Barneys or Bloomingdales, forget Harrods or Selfridges. Liberty is where it’s at. Quirky collections, fabulous layout and the best afternoon tea. The store has just had a revamp, which is what Frieda’s big day out was in aid of. We’ve been waiting six months for the store to be unveiled and it doesn’t disappoint. Freida was taken on a guided tour by the big boss, CEO Geoffroy de la Bourdonnaye. This is a big deal for the twenty-four year old. Especially as it was Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle who took her there for the first time: “We were in Soho for a press junket. I’m delighted to see how beautiful it looks after its renaissance. I especially love the scarf and women’s International rooms. And she proved herself even further as a true fashionista, as she left with a pair of the highly covetable, highly gorgeous Nike Liberty Blazers, oh how I want them! Are you loving Freida’s chic style?

Michelle Obama: The first lady of style

Yesterday was a historic moment, a moment you will tell your children about, they day the world changed. But how on earth do you do decide what to wear on such a day? Well, this was of course the unenviable task for Michelle Obama, at the centre of history in the making, she knew whatever she wore would be analysed and picked to pieces. But you know what? She got it right. With designers such as Thakoon and Christian Dior offering designs for the inauguration, it was Cuban born designer Isabel Toledo who was Michelle’s designer of choice. The gold lace shift with matching dress was beautifully cut, skimming Michelle’s figure and creating a flattering, sophisticated line. With a matching cardigan and that stunning Tom Binns crystal necklace Michelle Obama earned her style stripes. We already know from her previous choices, that she is not afraid to take risks and accessorising with muted green leather gloves and green Jason Wu that we’ve really all been talking about. Wu hadn’t even been told that Michelle would be wearing his dress to the ball. The Tapei-born designer told WWD “I found out with everyone else – which was pretty fabulous, when you think about it.” But what a dress… Like a dream, Michelle, stood in crystal encrusted chiffon one-shouldered gown. It flattered every inch of her figure and for a moment she was closer to a Hollywood star than a President’s wife. If the speech made you cry, it was this dress that did it for me. True glamour, real beauty and optimism for the future of fashion. Politics just got interesting. [

Five Minutes With Rhian Benson

If I could use just one word to describe Rhian Benson, it would be eloquent. Her voice is so calming and self assured, making it easy to warm to her. Born to a Welsh mother and a Ghanaian father, Rhian bravely left a career in investment banking to pursue what truly lay in her soul – “her love of music”. Currently preparing for the worldwide release of her debut album “Gold Coast”, Rhian already has her own lifestyle-oriented TV series featuring celebrity guests, interviews and music videos, of the same name airing on BET. With a diary jam packed of promoting and performing, Rhian took some time out with My Fashion Life to say how she feels……about fashion that is. How important is fashion to you as an artist? I think it’s important in that, whether you like it or not you present a certain image when you get on the stage, and sometimes fashion can help to explain your approach to music. My music is very jazzy and soulful and mellow. And there’s a lot of importance in the messages and so when I get on stage I like to look, a little bit ethereal, wearing stuff that almost seems fantasy like, such as silk and chiffon. You’ve lived in India and Ghana for a while, would you say both countries influence your sense of style? Oh definitely, definitely. I love ethnic jewellery and shell earrings at the moment. I think that it’s a clever way of making a statement about who you are and where you come from. You’re style in the video for “Say How I Feel” was very reminiscent of Billie Holiday, was that your choice? YES it was, it was. We wanted to do it in a jazz club because the song was quite jazzy […]
