The British Fashion Council’s September Fashion Showcase in Oxford Street

Somerset House might be the official home of London Fashion Week, but Oxford Street is getting pretty stylish in September too thanks to a brand new September Fashion Showcase by the British Fashion Council. In a bid to make Fashion Week for “everyone”, no fewer than 15 flagship stores will bet taking part in a great fashion showcase, hosting some ultra fab events throughout September – the most fashionable month of all. “People are much more aware that fashion week is going on,” said Caroline Rush, chief executive of the British Fashion Council. “It’s aspirational, exciting and diverse – and this Oxford Street initiative is about going one step further, being much more inclusive and celebrating our talent. “This event gives retailers the opportunity to be more proactive, and it also shows our international visitors that we take the fashion industry incredibly seriously in this country.” Three cheers for fashion! Highlights include personal styling sessions with Fashion East founder Lulu Kennedy at Topshop, the launch of River Island’s collaboration with Eudon Choi, designer Ben de Lisi talking about his new Principles range at Debenhams, complimentary manicures at Wallis, trend talks at Marks & Spencer and much more. My-Wardrobe launches LFW showcase London Lab

You only have to check Kate Middleton’s wardrobe out to see how great and influential British fashion is. And if that still isn’t enough to convince you, catching a small glimpse of what goes on in the Capital during London Fashion Week should do the trick So, to celebrate and showcase all the fine designer talent we have in this country, My-Wardrobe has launched the London Lab – a collection of some of the greatest pieces from London Fashion Week’s hottest designers. The London Lab initiative was the idea of My-Wardrobe’s fashion director Carmen Borgonovo. “During my years working as an editor I saw London Fashion Week go through exciting and difficult times; there was a period when London didn’t have the relevance it has now,” she said. “However, the last few years have seen a huge resurgence of talent in London and London Lab is our way of celebrating this. “Designers are truly showcasing new ideas and thinking outside the box, whilst still understanding the commercial value of fashion and I wanted to create a platform that would champion their vision worldwide.” You can expect to find pieces from the likes of  Marios Schwab (pictured), J.W. Anderson, Meadham Kirchoff, Ostwald Helgason, Antipodium, Studio Nicholson, Huishan Zhang and many more. Click here to check London Lab out in all its glory. [Telegraph]

Up and coming London designers give Barbie a makeover

It’s no secret that Barbie loves a good makeover – and who better to give the plastic fantastic lady a new look than three of London’s hottest, up and coming designers? To coincide with the opening of Barbie’s new space within the new Toy Shop in Selfridges, three sets of dolls will go on display (and be sold as collectibles) wearing pieces designed especially for them by three of London’s hottest rising talents. The three labels to be given the honour of dressing the world’s most famous plastic lady are Fred Butler (top), Nasir Mazhar (bottom left) and Sister by Sibling (bottom right). “In opening a concept space for toys, there couldn’t be a more perfect partner than Barbie, whose fashion credentials outstrip most of her human counterparts,” said Erin Moscow, a spokesperson for Selfridges. “The creative starting points for the department were icons in the marketplace, and naturally Barbie was the name on everyone’s lips. These one-off dolls are something truly special, and a testament to how relevant and pioneering Barbie continues to be.” Here, here! The Barbie department is on the fourth floor of Selfridges, and opens later this week! Will you be heading to the store to check it out? [Vogue]

Rita Ora showcases her love of British fashion in Burberry rubber skirt

She may be the brand new face of DKNY, but that doesn’t mean Rita Ora has abandoned her love of British fashion. The Brit singing sensation was spotted out and about in the Big Apple in a Burberry creation last night; and not just any Burbs creation… the one her BFF Cara Delevingne paraded down the Burberry Prorsum London Fashion Week catwalk back in February. Isn’t that nice? 22-year-old Rita dressed her Burberry autumn/winter 2013 rubber pencil skirt – which comes complete with heart print hotpants, don’tcha know – with a crisp white blouse tucked inside, some elegant strappy sandals, and a bold red lip. It’s a lot more toned down than her usual sartorial choices, and we absolutely love it! Definitely one of her best looks from the past couple of months! Do you like the way Rita styled her skirt or do you prefer the catwalk styling as modelled by Miss Cara? [Images]

“It’s such a shame for London that it’s all squeezed into such a short space of time” – L’Wren Scott on LFW

We couldn’t be happier when L’Wren Scott decided to show her autumn/winter 2013 collection during London Fashion Week back in February, and we’re delighted to learn that she will be coming back to debut her spring/summer 2014 offerings in September. And that’s not even the best news… the best news is that she is urging more fashion designers to do the same! “It’s such a shame for London, that it’s all squeezed into such a short space of time – it really needs to be given more focus on the calendar,” the designer and girlgriend of Rolling Stone legend Mick Jagger said. “Everyone I called to come to London last season came – I just got on the phone and gave them a call and invited them. And everyone said thank you, because they found it really interesting. Some of them had never been before and it meant that they were able to discover new things. It’s really important to bring focus to the London schedule – more British fashion designers should do that.” L’Wren’s AW13 collection was showcased during an intimate banquet meal in February, and although the designer hinted she won’t be taking the exact same format this time around, we think we can expect an equally personal event. Naomi Campbell is Best Dressed of the Week in Alaïa

Expecting nothing short of perfection from The Super of Supers, Naomi Campbell once again wowed in a stunning Alaïa number. Taking to the (green) carpet at the Novak Djokovic Foundation London Gala earlier this week, Ms. Campbell sported a tiered, silhouette-skimming black dress – one that sat with perfection on her statuesque frame. Glossy, sleek hair, pinned back at the crown and neutral makeup accented with strong, feline eyes made for a stunning evening look. Keeping accessories to an absolute minimum, Naomi opted for tassel-drop earrings and beaming smile to complete the look. Although we wouldn’t normally wax lyrical about a black dress, an Alaïa number with such beautiful detail is an exception – especially when Naomi’s the one modelling it! What do you think of Naomi’s look? Is it worthy of BDOTW?

Full Figured Fashion Week 2013

Easily the brightest event in the fashion calendar for plus-size women, Full Figured Fashion Week (17th – 22nd June 2013) in New York celebrated its fifth year with the usual sumptuous style. Fabrics flowed, necklines were sharp and chic, prints were there to catch the eye and silhouettes were as curvaceous as they come. If you missed any of the action, here’s a quick recap on the highlights of this year’s FFF week. The events in the showcase were worth the price of cheap flights to New York in 2013, that were available through various operators, alone. Sunset cruises, advice on make-up artistry and Tuesday’s Curves for Cure show, complete with celebrity models standing against breast cancer with some inspired pink outfits. Special mentions here go to basketball-mum Lucille O’Neal in a bejewelled halterneck frock and the woman behind it all, Gwen Devoe, showing off some one-shouldered flounce. Of course, it was the Indie Designers showcase that everyone was waiting for, and Friday’s catwalk collections did not disappoint. Big shoulders and cinched waists reigned at German design house Amiiee, while Britain’s very own Live Unlimited London did us proud combining beautiful soft sheers with curve-enhancing patterns. Australian sister-collective Huudaverti brought a tantalising mix of textures to the show, with furs, glitter and a peekaboo velvet cloak which would have been the envy of Little Red Riding Hood. Elsewhere, ZMJ Denim came up with some eye-dazzling ways to wear jeans, with high-waists and super-flattering fits all-round. Boutique fashion label Sonsi showcased the best of their designs with the season’s hot colours of orange and aqua done peplum-style by City Chic and some stand-out rose prints by IGIGI. And it was a tribal triumph at Rue 114, with ruffles, pleats and tutus ensuring all eyes were on the runway. There’s something genuinely […]

Julien Macdonald x Melissa Odabash debut Resort 2014 collection in London

Last night we headed to London’s swanky ME Hotel Radio Rooftop Bar (which is stylishly situated opposite our go-to London Fashion Week destination, Somerset House) to witness the second Julien Macdonald x Melissa Odabash swimwear and beachwear collection make its gorgeous runway debut. The Saturdays’ Mollie King, Made in Chelsea’s Rosie Fortescue, singer (and Amy Winehouse’s goddaughter) Dionne Bromfield, and model/TV presenter Zara Martin were a few of the famous faces who joined the models on the catwalk, which just goes to show that Julien and Melissa’s collection (does using first names make it sound like we are bosom buddies? We aren’t (just yet) but it makes us feel good!) collection really is for everyone. Stunning Grecian inspired long dresses/cover-ups were juxtaposed with short, sexy dresses perfect for a beach party, along with essential summer-ready swimsuits and bikinis that made us want to swear off chocolate for good. The sexy bold green maxi and the embellished white cut-out swimsuit are among our favourites; what about you guys? [Images c/o Julien Macdonald x Melissa Odabash Resort 2014]

Angelina Jolie is Best Dressed of the Week in custom-made Ralph & Russo

It’s always hard to shine when you’re not the reason the red carpet(black in this case) was laid out, but wherever Ms. Jolie goes, she commands the red carpet. Accompanying fiancé Brad Pitt to the Berlin premiere of his latest film World War Z, Angelina looked a vision in white, wearing a custom-made Ralph & Russo strapless peplum dress with rose gold belt-like detailing at the waist. Although we’ve waxed lyrical about her black Saint Laurent Paris look at the London premiere for the film, this look elevates the Little White Dress to new heights. The leggy beauty teamed the stunning dress with matching pumps and her signature glossy locks. A look like Angelina’s needs no accessorising, so we’re glad she skipped the bag in favour of a small, elegant earrings and a cuff-style bracelet. What do you think; she certainly outdid her star of the film husband-to-be, right? [Image: Zimbio]

Midweek Moodboard: Peach

Ever the trend-setter, Kate Middleton got us lusting after all things peach yesterday after we saw her arrive at the Queen’s 60th Coronation Celebration in a gorgeous peach Jenny Packham number. The Duchess of Cambridge may be actual royalty, but Kylie Minogue is pop royalty (she has rightfully earned that status!) so it comes as no surprise to see her rock the shade too! Kylie ruled the red carpet in a cute peach Moschino dress at last night’s Glamour Women of the Year Awards in London, and now it’s time for us to get in on the peach action too! Zoe Saldana scoops Best Dressed of the Week in Vionnet

The red carpet has been alive this week with a flurry of show stopping looks! From Katy Perry in Vera Wang to Carey Mulligan in red-hot Lanvin, it’s safe to say there’s been a fair bit of serious style contending going on! So naturally, when it came to picking our Best Dressed of the Week, we were, well, stuck! But after much contemplation, Zoe Saldana’s sweetly monochrome look won us over. Zoe attended the ‘Star Trek Into The Darkness’ London premiere wearing a Vionnet Pre-Fall 2013 gown. The embellished black bodice sat atop the white asymmetric skirt to striking effect, offset beautifully by a slick of red on the lips and nails, and a vintage-inspired, side swept hairdo. Rounding off this head turning ensemble are Christian Louboutin peep-toe shoes, as Zoe chose to go clutch free. Her strong stance, the unexpected silhouette and fuss-free styling make this look a deserving winner!

Olga Kurylenko scoops Best Dressed of the Week in Marchesa

A red carpet style stalwart, Marchesa gowns are a celebrity favourite for a statement look. Synonymous with the brand are stunning, ethereal gowns, and one such gown that former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko wore to the London premiere of her latest movie, Oblivion, left us speechless. Taking to the red carpet in a white Marchesa Pre-Fall 2013 off-the-shoulder gown, Olga looked every inch the Snow White with a stylish slant. The stunning floor-length gown featured a scalloped, black lace neckline and a full length train. Accessorising Olga’s look was a crystal clutch and De Beers diamond studs, whilst a smoky eye and neutral lip colour provided the finishing touches. For her hair, Olga opted for side-parted ponytail, twisted into a Grecian-style at the sides. Open-toe black sandals completed this breathtaking look. A no brainer for BDOTW! Is Olga’s London look worthy of Best Dressed of the Week, as compared to her other Oblivion promo looks? Which do you prefer?

FASHION CHARTS: going UP and going DOWN this month

Want a one stop shop for all things HOT and NOT this month? Our fashion chart rounds up the most talked about things in the frantic world of fashion, from the ‘Russian pack’ to Rihanna at River Island on Oxford Street, to Cara Delevingne’s questionable footwear choice and the headgear revolution that’s getting out of control. We’re pretty sure we haven’t missed out any vital fash flashes, but if you’re in the know, and think we could do with extending our list of what’s au fait, and what’s strictly non, non, then go ahead and let us know! UP Elena Perminova The 26-year-old wife of Russian media mogul Alexander Lebdev, and darling of every credible street style blog, Elena Perminova (and her formidable wardrobe) is a lady after our own hearts. Wearing couture like it ain’t no thing, snagging exclusive FROW seats and a model herself, it’s safe to say she outdoes rival street style mavens and models, alike! Catch her gallivanting through the fashion capitals with the ‘Russian Pack (see Ulyana below), donning every designer you can imagine, from the haute to the avant-garde. Come next season, our beady style eye will be firmly fixed on this beauty. Rihanna for River Island Yes, the hype has been circulating for a while now, but yesterday saw Rihanna’s collection for River Island finally leap from the catwalk on to its concrete counterpart. The collection landed in stores, with Rihanna herself greeting fans for the launch at the Oxford Street store wearing a black dress from the collection (natch). Mila Kunis scoops Best Dressed of the Week in Alexander McQueen

It could’ve gone very wrong, but this week’s Best Dressed look took us by surprise. Mila Kunis in a spring 2013 Alexander McQueen gown at the London premiere of Oz the Great and Powerful, that is. The stunning actress wore a tiered lace tulle gown on the ‘yellow’ carpet at the Leicester Square premiere, looking every inch the glamorous A-lister, and as far removed as possible from her evil onscreen persona, The Wicked Witch of the West, in the forthcoming film. With her glossy locks down, sensuous eyes against a subtle makeup palette and minimal jewellery, the strapless gown injected some fun where we’ve normally come to expect tried and tested formal attire. The tiered style gives Mila’s look a youthful twist, and the cinched in waist stops the gown from swallowing up her petite frame. Although an up-do wouldn’t have gone amiss atop this look, Mila still gets top style marks from us! Does Mila Kunis’s look get your vote?

Paris Fashion Week AW13 highlights from Balenciaga, Balmain, Lanvin, H&M and more

Another day in Paris and another host of top designers debuting their autumn/winter 2013 collections on the French catwalks. There have been quite a few first these past 24 hours too, in the form of H&M’s first runway show in eight years, as well as Alexander Wang’s highly anticipated debut collection for Balenciaga. Mr Wang proved that he was indeed the right man for the coveted job, juxtaposing and balancing the creations more commonly found in his eponymous label with those of Balenciaga quite flawlessly. The high street has been more prominent this Fashion Month than ever before (Rihanna for River Island, Whistles, Topshop Unique to name just a few) and we’re hoping that H&M will see how successful the show has been and continue to present its collections in Paris. We’d prefer London, but we won’t be too fussy as we’re just glad it’s getting a Fashion Month outing at all! There was plenty of sparkle, as well as some big shoulders, bold lines, vivid colours and exaggerated structured  silhouettes at Balmain – one of our PFW highlights every season – while Mugler opted for a much softer and subtler approach to drama than usual. As always, Alber Elbaz presented a chic and clean collection for Lanvin, while Gareth Pugh took the term “haunting” to new depths. Take a look at the highlights below: H&M Balmain  Mugler Lanvin Gareth Pugh

Midweek Moodboard: Tartan Moschino style

Fashion Month isn’t even over yet, but there’s already an abundance of trends from the respective New York, London and Milan catwalks that we can’t wait to try out, adapt, and inject into our current and future wardrobes. There’s no need to wait until the new season to road test some of the emerging catwalk trends, oh no. This week, we’re totally crushing on all things tartan thanks to the Moschino autumn/winter 2013 collection which showed at Milan Fashion Week a few days ago. You don’t have to go all-out like the model above, but we’ve chosen a few pieces to help get you started should you wish to get in on the tartan action. And remember – you don’t have to be Scottish or channelling Cher Horowitz from our beloved Clueless to rock the trend either. Good luck – and have fun experimenting! Milan Fashion Week AW13 highlights from Gucci and Alberta Ferretti

Back to viewing fashion week from our office chairs, as the fashion elite move from London and make a stylish dash to Milan. Milan Fashion Week kicked off with the autumn/winter 2013 offerings from Gucci and Alberta Ferretti, no doubt two of the biggest names on the Italian fashion calendar. And it wasn’t hard to see why given the beautiful collections that emerged on the catwalks. Frida Giannini ensured that Gucci was an ethereal mix of the dark, dangerous, seductive and indulgent, followed up with some vampy eye make-up and sleek but still utterly fierce hairstyles. The attention to detail in each and every piece was exquisite, with the slick tailoring in particular being a real highlight. Alberta Ferretti took things in the completely opposite direction – not just from Gucci, but from her previous collections. The designer stripped everything back and really went for simplicity. Gone were the intricate designs, patterns, textures, embellishments and varied colour palettes, and in their place were simpler, more contemporary pieces. This is Alberta Ferretti though, so take the term “simple” with a pinch of salt. We love this collection! Bring on Day 2 where the likes of Prada, Fendi and Max Mara will be showing!

Is Rihanna for River Island real fashion?

Whilst show-hopping at Somerset House this fashion season, I stopped off in one of the café’s dotted conveniently next to the entrance of the exhibition I had spent ten hours gawking at. Sat, almost inhaling a much needed caffeine fix, my ears happened to fall upon a rather heated debate between two relatively oppositely styled fashion week attendees: the interviewer happened to be dressed in run-around journo gear, complete with obligatory back pack and tatty notebook in hand. The interviewee, from what I could hear, was an aspiring designer. Their topic of conversation: Rihanna’s latest collection for River Island. Hitting stores on March 5, the collection has been a point contention ever since its London Fashion Week debut. Badgal RiRi’s first ‘official’ venture into fashion came courtesy of high street super brand, River Island. Known for her penchant of the Nineties, with a healthy dose of sport-luxe thrown in (can you hear the multiple KERCHING’S, Mr. Wang?), it was pretty obvious these references were going to crop up in the collaboration. But,  the point the two ladies were disagreeing over in what could only be described as a highly civilised cat fight was the hands-on approach to designing (or lack of) many celebrity collaborations are guilty of. Although pictures have emerged showing the Bajan beauty getting ‘involved’ and inspecting the collection, reports have claimed that co-designer Adam Selman was responsible for almost all of the handiwork, with Rihanna instructing via telephone and then arriving near the unveiling date to inspect samples. She took the bow last Saturday night, and it’s certainly called Rihanna for River Island, but was the interviewers argument, that a celebrity cannot rightfully claim a collection if they haven’t had any physical creative input into the design process, a justified one to put forward? The interviewee was quick […]

How do you spend Fashion Month?

Being a fashion enthusiast doesn’t necessarily make you a fashion insider. Much like the culture vulture who loves to comb through historical findings at museums for the sheer joy; the foodie who loves to consume food far more than cooking it, and the cosmetics hoarder who buys into the packaging rather than the actual benefits of the product, an unhealthy interest in fashion doesn’t amount to instant editorship. Mother Nature’s unmatched force couldn’t bring to a standstill the dressed-for-purpose fashionistas out in full force for New York Fashion Week, and we expect much of the same unfortunate weather (and fashion action) this side of the pond, warranting sludge-proof heels and frostbite dodging ensembles to combat the climes. Not that weather equating to a mini natural disaster could stop the fash pack from dressing up to the nines. But it isn’t just about the clothes. After all, Fashion Month is like any other month of ‘observance’, if you will. The parties, the social media pandemonium and seat allocation fiasco’s are next to none, and when you have images of super mum Victoria Beckham wearing a £2,000 handbag over her head instead of her arm (a symptom of sheer pre-Fashion Week stress), it begs to question whether the perceived glamorous pace of fashion week is really all that it is made out to be. Social media is like the fashion world’s fridge, full of annoying reminders and important titbits that make devouring the collections rolling onto the runway all the more essential. Show notes and seasonal trend hash tags aside, editors moaning about flight delays, everyone’s-Testino-now ‘selfie’ shots depicting OOTD’s (outfit of the day) and gluttonous updates about privileged seats and fashion friends are also the culprits for fuelling Fashion Month’s four week reign over our lives. To the fashion outsider, this […]

FASHION CHART: 10 things going up and going down this month

Charting the movements of the ever-evolving world of fashion is no small feat. It’s in. Oh, it’s out now. That’s far too 2012 to be considered for this year, and did you just really say winter coat? Whether we’re considering the size and brand catalogue of the forthcoming Kan-dashian offspring, or just how incomplete we feel every time we look in the mirror to find our eyebrows don’t even come close to Cara’s mega-furry (in a good way) monsters, we thought we’d share February’s fashion ups and downs with you. After all, sharing is so 2013.   GOING UP Senso Qimat booties Have you met the new season-perfect boot? These transitional treaders come in a gorgeous pale grey and are fab for when you want to add a spring feeling to your shoe-drobe, without risking frostbite in open-toe sandals. That Super Bowl outfit Sorry, who was Rubin Singer until Queen Bey stomped around on-stage in his creation during her phenom Super Bowl half-time performance? Body suits are the new obsession, (especially with a booty like Bey’s), and Rubin Singer, the ridiculously handsome, New York-based designer who’s dressed the like of Solange Knowles, Kelly Rowland, Alicia Keys and Lea Michele, is our new one to watch! The Big Browed Brit Beauty takeover (and a whole lotta alliteration) We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: Cara fever has gripped us, and we’re hypnotised by those brows. The new face of Pepe Jeans, scores of SS’13 campaign under her belt and a Vogue cover to boot – does this girl ever stop? Err, fashion month? With New York Fashion Week in full swing and London Fashion Week a mere nine days away, need we say more? (Note: panic stricken facial expression). Fashion Month is upon us once again, so welcome blisters, food-less days […]

Midweek Moodboard: Dr Who inspired futurism

[noskim] Doctor Who is 50 years old. We can remember seeing the very first episode making us feel incredibly old! Somewhat of a legend, we have to admit that like many other fans we’re addicted to revisiting the old episodes via the Doctor Who audio books. Shhh don’t tell! Now it’s just 51 days and counting until Doctor Who returns to our television screens (30th March if you can’t be bothered to sit there and count – you’re welcome) – and when we realised this fun fact we were pretty excited and therefore instantly got in the mood for all things futuristic and generally Dr Who-y. Luckily, the futurism trend is pretty big right now, so getting into the Doctor Who spirit was actually pretty simple. Check out what we found on our quest: Futuristic tee available at Matalan – because galaxy prints are just as apt for the streets of London as they are in outer space. Alice + Olivia metallic leggings available at My Theresa – embrace your inner Tin Man and robot with these attention grabbing beauties. Torn by Ronny Kobo dress available at ShopBop – this dress has it all – it’s short, sexy, sculpted, on-trend… the list goes on! Louie metallic trainers available at Dune – hi-top trainers have literally never been hotter, and these gold babies would be perfect for any Dr Who style missions you may have going on. Hervé Léger mini dress available at The Outnet – this is what you get when high fashion and science combine. A truly stunning dress guaranteed to turn heads! Vice & Vanity necklace available at Far Fetch – an interesting and quirky piece of futuristic-inspired jewellery that will add that instant wow factor to your outfits. Estee Lauder eyeshadow available at Boots – because your […]

H&M to show during Paris Fashion Week next month!

Looks like the high street is slowly but surely taking over Fashion Week. Not only is Rihanna debuting her River Island collection during London Fashion Week, but it was announced a few days ago that Whistles will also be showing a collection in our fine Capital. And now comes the announcement H&M will be showing its first catwalk show in eight years during Paris Fashion Week. Pretty cool, right? We can expect to see 25 new looks from the H&M autumn/winter 2013 collection make their way down the Parisian catwalk. “We felt excited about the collection and we really wanted to show it,” said Håcan Andersson, a spokesperson for the Swedish retailer. The show hasn’t quite made the official Paris Fashion Week schedule, but it’s supposed to go ahead on February 27th at the Musée Rodin, so put it in your diaries. And if previous H&M shows are anything to go by (Kanye West and John Legend performed at the last one!) we know we’re going to be in for a treat! Are you pleased to see Fashion Week go more high street than high fashion? [WWD] [Image]

Kerry Washington scoops Best Dressed of the Week spot

It’s been a week crammed with Awards ceremonies, and more to come, so it’s safe to say a few too many stylish ladies have been falling on our Best Dressed radar! We brought you our Best Dressed at the People’s Choice and the Critics’ Choice Awards, but for BDOTW, we had to take a break from the award-wielding, glitzy A-listers. The Django Unchained promo tour was in full swing this week, and we can tell you that leading lady Kerry Washington’s acting skills aren’t the only thing catching our attention! The film’s red carpet premiere commanded impeccable outfits, and Kerry sure pulled out all the stops! Donning a Peter Pilotto SS’13 dress for the film’s Rome photo call, Kerry looked suitably ready to spring into the new season in an eccentrically printed, ruffle-front number. Hot bangs and sleek locks finished off the look nicely, although we do wish she’d opted for sandals over pumps. Next up was a white-hot checkerboard print Louis Vuitton SS’13 dress for the Berlin photo call, which Kerry expertly styled with a cute Vuitton headband, a dinky, ladylike Vince Camuto bag and white Louboutin pumps. One of our favourite looks going into next season, for sure! And finally, another breathtaking look from the stunning actress came courtesy of the film’s London premiere, for which Kerry wore a beautiful Giles Spring 2013 gown. Deep berry lips and a wavy updo similar to the runway looked completed the look, whilst white pumps and a silver box clutch made for the perfect accessories. HOT! Which look was your favourite?

London College of Fashion to show at LFW next month

Great news for young, budding fashion designers! Central Saint Martins is no longer the only institute to show at London Fashion Week, as the graduate MA students of the London College of Fashion will also be showcasing their work this February. “British creativity and design is truly at the forefront of international style and commerce,” reads a press release from LCF. “For the first time, London Fashion Week will provide the platform for the London College of Fashion to present its MA 2013 graduates to a global audience.” The students will show off their hard work to press and buyers on Friday February 15th at the Royal Opera House – a fine venue if ever there was one. Good luck to all the students who we assume are busy prepping for the big showcase. We can’t wait to see what they come up with! [Vogue] [Image]

Amanda Seyfried steals Best Dressed of the Week in Alexander McQueen

This week’s BDOTW comes courtesy of the stunning Amanda Seyfried, who almost brought our breathing to a halt in this dreamy Alexander McQueen bustier gown she wore to the Sun Military Awards. A definite turn on colour from the sharp, monochrome Balenciaga creation she wore to the London premiere of Les Miserables, but we love this romantic look all the same! Emblazoned with a delicate floral motif, the gorgeous silk-chiffon gown was given a metallic toughening in the form of an ivory metal bow belt; cinching at the waist and alluding to a curvier silhouette on the petite starlet. Topping off her look were glossy waves and slick of dark nail polish; a nude makeup palette ensured Amanda’s look remained soft and sensual. A no-brainer for this week’s Best Dressed!

We love getting glammed up on a regular basis at the best of times, but there’s something unrivalled about the style of a Bond girl, is there not? Hakaan cancels Paris Fashion Week show due to missing collection

You’d think the thing a designer fears the most is getting harsh reviews from the critics for the collection they’ve been working so hard on, right? Well we  reckon not having a collection to show at all might actually top it! That’s exactly what happened to poor Turkish-born, London-based designer Hakaan Yildirim, as his entire spring/summer 2013 collection was reportedly lost by a courier company, therefore forcing him to cancel tomorrow’s show at Paris Fashion Week. Ouch! Apparently the designer will have to re-make every single piece from the collection again, and will show buyers and selected members of the press at a special event at a later date. Good luck Team Hakaan, you can do it!  We wonder how many pots of coffee, sleepless nights and extra interns it’ll take to remake the whole collection in time… Ps: Remember when the Marc Jacobs spring/summer 2012 collection was stolen last year? We’re starting to think stricter laws should be enforced for designer collections in transit; who’s with us? [Telegraph]

Midweek Moodboard: Temperley-inspired lace

As we wait somewhat patiently for Paris Fashion Week to kick off, we can’t help but reminisce about some of our favourite shows of London Fashion Week. Seems like ages ago, doesn’t it? Temperley London was without a shadow of a doubt one of our spring/summer 2013 highlights; the soft, intricate lace detailing in particular was to die for. This is why we’ve decided to seek midweek inspiration from Alice Temperley’s phenomenal show and drool over some lace pieces that are currently up for grabs on the high street. None of this waiting for the new season lark – we want them now! Take a look at some of our fave lace pieces below… any of them tempting you? Milan Fashion Week SS13 kicks off

Now that London Fashion Week is over – we have bittersweet emotions about it, if we’re being honest – we can return to absorbing the spring/summer 2013 collections from the comfort of the office chair – no high heels required! Milan Fashion Week is truly where the luxury starts, and the beginning of this season was no exception. MFW had barely begun before the big guns were out in force and the likes of Gucci, MaxMara, Alberta Ferretti and Emporio Armani showcased their collections on the lavish Italian runways. None of this save the best til last nonsense, it’s all go from the get go in Milan! Gucci hit the nail on the head and went back to basics for spring/summer  2013… who knew bold, vivid, block colour could be so effective in making a statement? While we’re not sure which pieces Blake Lively (the new face of the brand) would wear, we think she’d give everything a pretty good go… after all, she has the potential to make anything work for her. We’re looking forward to red carpet events of the future to see how the famous faces will style their new-season Gucci should they be lucky enough to get their hands on it. Over at Alberta Ferretti, the models walked out in aquatic inspired garments against a sea-like backdrop. Monique Lhuillier also went for an under the sea theme for her SS13 collection which she showed during New York Fashion Week, so it’s safe to say we’ve stumbled upon one of the key trends of the new season. We’ve always been a fan of mermaid chic (blame Disney’s Ariel) so it should come as no surprise to learn that we are all over Alberta Ferretti’s theme too. It was layer central over at Emporio Armani – and what interesting […]
