Unless you’re Victoria Beckham or her mini me, Chanelle Hayes (ex Big Brother UK housemate) there will be times when high powered dressing just wont cut it. So what options do we ladies have? Well there is always the hoodie. While some like it and others disregard it, the hoodie can be a lifesaver for those lazy days when you just want to chill and relax or have to pop out on an impromptu errand.

Could DVB Style be Britain’s next major brand?

After her failure at conquering the music business, Victoria Beckham has had her sights set on the fashion industry for a while now. Steadily implementing her strategy for global recognition as a style icon, often Victoria’s methods such as changing 3 times within hours during NY Fashion week, parading around Paris Fashion week with Katie Holmes in tow and wearing looks straight from the catwalk have screamed of desperation, however one can’t fault her steely determination.

Interviews: Anton Heunis

Name: Anton Heunis Occupation: Luxury Jewellery Designer What inspired you to pursue jewellery design? I have always been fascinated by jewellery. It is something extremely personal. Like fashion, it is an art form that intrudes the wearer’s personal space – as if it is almost a part of the one wearing it. . I think it is amazing to be able to create an object that can build on the identity of another person.

Romero Bryan

Romero Bryan has achieved what most designers only dream of. His designs have been worn by Kate Moss, Beyonce, Cameron Diaz, Victoria Beckham and Usher. In 2003 his talent was recognised by the Royal Bank of Scotland when he was listed as no. 5 in the Rich list 2020 with a prediction of being worth £30 million and unlike most he remains extremely down to earth about his success. Having just graduated from the London College of Fashion Romero began designing in his early teens, and received recognition at the age of 16 when singer/actress Samantha Mumba wore one of his designs to the Brit awards. With prospects of a great future ahead of him, we managed to catch up with Romero before he embarks on his career. It’s becoming very common now for our British designers to jump ship and go to New York, is this something you would consider? Well I will be leaving for the BIG NYC August 5th, in the hope of finding a job or at least new clients there to buy my new clothing line. As you may see my graduate collection was somehow different to anything i’ve ever designed before. It wa much more mature, simple yet sexy. Its sexy style came from movement rather than exposing areas, in which I’ve done in the past. So with new market in mind, I thought, hey why not try a different clientele. America watch out here I come……… Do you plan to venture into menswear? Eventually, but for now I’d like to focus on one thing at a time, and that is conquering the womenswear first. Which fabrics do you prefer working with and why? I love chiffons and denim. Chiffon because I love its fludity, its movement can be so sexy yet sophistcated depending […]

Coleen; Vogue material?

The speed at which one can become a celebrity is amazing, and if anyone should know it would be Coleen McLoughlin. She has made the headlines almost every week for one thing or another and the most talked about stunt at the moment is her success at making the June cover of Vogue. All are debating whether she deserves it or not, how it will affect the magazines credibilty by having a “chav” on the cover, and most importantly will it sell? Well yes it will sell, simply because of everyone’s curiosity. I think it’s a clever move for Vogue in terms of sales but perhaps not for the future. She’s definitely no style/fashion icon, not a model or an actress. She doesnt sing, actually she doesnt work at all. Having Coleen on the cover will lessen the exclusivity of being a Vogue Cover girl but Vogue is no small time magazine, their every move is calculated and there is no doubt that they performed extensive research and concluded it’s what the people want. All I can say is that Victoria Beckham really should switch to Coleen’s pr agency cause they are doing an excellent job and although I do purchase Vogue every month anyway, I must say I am looking forward to June’s edition. I can’t wait to see how they will potray her. Miss McLoughlin should not be underestimated! Text: Michele Obi

Death of the model – Birth of the Celeb

This is so true. Celebrities have taken over where the supermodel left off. These days most celebs want to be fashion icons, for once you are an icon you can now bring out a label. I wouldnt be suprised if this is the next step for Victoria Beckham. I remember when most issues of Vogue or Elle had Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss etc on the front cover. Now even I look forward to which female celeb rather than model will grace their covers. During the supermodel era, “actresses wore clothes and supermodels wore fashion,” says Singer. “At that time, actresses thought it would damage credibility if they were seen as fashion plates.” But this generation of actresses grew up in fashion-centric times, and they’ve “come of age thinking that a love of fashion and seriousness about craft are not incompatible.” I can’t decide whether I’m for or against the celebrity fashion icon. I see the pros and cons but I do know that I miss the supermodel era. If you asked somebody in the late eighties/early nineties to name a model they would say the name of a current model without hesitation. Now not that many have a clue.

Guess who was named the worst…no surprise “Christina Aguilera”. I am actually beginning to understand her style, she’s just expressing herself. Halle Berry made it into the top 5 🙂

First we’ll start by identifying if you truly have an hourglass body or if you’re more of an inverted triangle (hey, both gorgeous shapes!) before diving into the styling tips and tricks you need to show off your upper body, cinch in that waist, and flaunt your feminine curves. Definition of the hourglass body shape An hourglass silhouette is all about curves in the right places, a fuller bust and hips, petite waist, plus wider shoulders for true symmetry. It’s common to mistake this shape for the inverted triangle or rectangle. How can you tell them apart? Easy! The key difference is the balance between the upper and lower body. An hourglass shape has equal proportions, while inverted triangles have wider shoulders and rectangles have less defined curves. How to tell if you have an hourglass figure If you want to be absolutely sure you’ve got an hourglass body shape, grab a measuring tape and note down your bust and hip measurements. […]

Looking flawlessly beautiful, Meghan Markle took to the stage last night at The British Fashion Awards to present Givenchy’s artistic director Clare Waight Keller with the award for Womenswear Designer of the Year. Speaking to a room filled with celebs including Victoria and David Beckham, Kate Moss, Cindy Crawford and many more, Meghan said, “It is such an honour to be here celebrating British fashion and British fashion designers in my new home of the U.K.” She continued, “As all of you in this room know, we have a deep connection to what we wear. Sometimes, it’s very personal and sometimes it’s emotional. But for me this connection is rooted in, really being able to understand that it’s about supporting and empowering each other, especially as women.” The designer whom was responsible for Meghan’s stunning wedding dress has also been the Duchess of Sussex’s go-to designer for many of her outfits since the big day. Therefore, it was only fitting that the mum-to-be bestowed Waight Keller with the prestigious award. Upon acceptance of her award, Waight Keller said, “This woman is so amazing. I got to know Meghan on such a personal level. To have someone like that trust you on such a personal moment in their life… I can’t thank you enough because it was the most beautiful moment.” Opting for a one-shouldered black velvet Givenchy gown, gold bracelets by Pippa Small and strappy heels by Tamara Mellon, Meghan kept her makeup minimal. She finished off her look with a low bun and black nail polish. Every so often when we fire up our laptops in the morning and scour the net, we literally find ourselves screaming “yassss!” at our screens. When does this momentary lapse of focus occur? When we see a celeb in a show stopping outfit of course. Case in point, Amber Heard last night at the London premiere of Aquaman. Wearing an emerald green and gold Valentino couture gown, the actress accessorised with a playful brocade swimming inspired cap (also by Valentino) and gold platform heels courtesy of Brian Atwood. Men’s Fall Fashion Trends

September is upon us and the temperature has dropped considerably, which officially means that autumn is here. With autumn comes an inevitable style transition and new trends to follow. We’ve teamed up with Trendhim to talk you through some key autumn trends and how you can incorporate them into your wardrobe. Orange Bright orange is the colour of the moment right now. Whether you choose to channel it through a double tracksuit and give a nod to the sportswear trend, or simply wear an orange beanie hat or scarf, this is one trend to not miss out on. Sportswear Sportswear is the trend that just won’t seem to die, and for good reason! Super comfortable and easy to style means that streetwear styles like luxe tracksuits and hoodies are still dominating men’s fashion, for inspiration look to Tommy Hilfiger and Supreme. Varsity styles are also coming back into style this season so head to your local vintage shop to get your hands on some college apparel t-shirts. Whilst we’re on the topic of vintage, 90’s sportswear like zip-up Adidas waterproofs are also great pieces to get your hands on.   Earth tones Looking back at the catwalks of London, New York, Paris and Milan from earlier this year, it was clear to see the dominance of earthly tones such as khaki, browns, camels and mustard yellows. Pantone, the authority in colour, also named their colour of the year as a shade named ‘Greenery’, showing just how popular and influential these colours have proved to be in 2017.   This is such an easy trend to follow as the colours are so easy to wear and versatile. Some great pieces to wear include camel and Burberry-esque trench coats, deep brown leather bracelets and hunter green sweatshirts. Military In a slight continuation […]

Stay On Trend This Winter With Our Top Tips

As much as we’d like to deny it, summer has left abruptly and it seems as though it’s taken autumn along with it. What we’re left with are short days, long nights and some very icy temperatures. And while it might pain you to pack away those shorts and T-shirts until next year, there are many clothing items you can look forward to breaking out before the snow starts to fall. Below, we’ll look at the latest trends as well as must-have pieces for the 2016 winter season. Puffer Jackets Undoubtedly one of the warmest pieces of outerwear available, puffer jackets have seen a resurgence in recent years. Not only that, but they’ve been dubbed one of seven statement pieces to have this winter and have been seen all over the AW16 catwalks. And while oversized puffer jackets might have been all the rage on the runways, you can find slightly more sensible and haute-couture versions at Uniqlo or Topshop. Invest in Basics Always understated but overwhelmingly necessary, basics such as blouses, stockings and cardigans are pieces which always seem to slip by unnoticed until you realize you need a surplus of all of them! They may be ubiquitous, but that’s not to say that these pieces need to be boring. You can pick up some simple, tasteful, and stylish pieces from places like Peter Hahn that will help augment statement items and complete a look. A Sharp-Shouldered Blazer 2016 is the year that the 80s has made a comeback. We’ve seen it not only in fashion, but generally throughout popular culture. So if you’re keen to take a cue from that trend, invest in a sharp-shouldered blazer that will go amazingly with a crop top and a pair of flat ankle boots. If you’re willing to go full 80s, […]

Floral Print Suit For Spring? Yes, Please!

Before you say it, we know we’re in the middle of winter. Temperatures have seriously plummeted and snow has finally graced us with it’s presence. But, that doesn’t have to stop us from dreaming of all the lovely outfits spring holds in store for us, which of course includes florals.  Florals are as committed to spring as the super cute David Beckham is to our beloved Victoria, therefore each season designers must look for creative and wonderful ways to rework the much loved print. Our fave interpretation so far has got to be Jenny Packham’s 70’s inspired floral suits. Drawing inspiration from two legendary icons – Nick Cave and Patti Smith, Packham’s floral suits are bang on trend, as our obsession with all things 70’s is set to continue right on into SS16. Yay or Nay? [Images]

WATCH Miranda Kerr’s debut H&M video!

We told you back in February that Miranda Kerr was announced as the brand spanking new face of H&M (she clearly didn’t let being let go from Mango get her down for too long!) and now it’s time to check out her first ever video ad campaign. And we think it’s pretty amazing! We think that most women will identify with the storyline, which in a nutshell goes like this: Set to the tune of Blondie’s epic Heart of Glass, Miranda’s friend pulls up outside her house in a taxi, but Miranda isn’t quite ready yet. Cue a very stylish montage consisting of Miranda trying on one cute outfit after another – and taking selfies, natch! – before eventually deciding on a pair of black leather shorts and a pale off-the-shoulder top. She sends the final selfie to her friend, she approves, and off they go! Check out the H&M spring/summer 2014 video below and let us know what you think. Do you think she “chose” the best outfit in the end?

Kim Sears supports Andy Murray’s OBE in Matthew Williamson

Congrats to tennis pro – and reigning Wimbledon champ – Andy Murray, who was awarded the Order of the British Empire earlier today by none other than the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William! Andy headed to Buckingham Palace to receive his OBE with his parents Wllie and Judy, and loyal girlfriend Kim Sears also in attendance to lend their support. Although he was the one receiving the OBE, all eyes were on Kim Sears (well, our eyes at least), who looked phenomenal in a monochrome zigzag dress from the Matthew Williamson pre-fall 2013 collection. She showed off her svelte and enviable body with the utmost class and sophistication (something Kate Middleton has perfected over the years) and accessorised her dress with tights, black t-bar heels, a black clutch and a stunning maroon hat to add the finishing touch. A flawless look from a lady who is fast-becoming a British style icon. Congratulations again to Mr Andy Murray! [Image]

New York Fashion Week highlights from Donna Karan, Carolina Herrera, 3.1 Phillip Lim & more

New York Fashion Week is still going strong – yesterday the likes of Donna Karan, Carolina Herrera, Tommy Hilfiger, 3.1 Philip Lim and Ralph Rucci all presented their spring/summer 2014 offerings… and here are some highlights: It was all very elegant at Carolina Herrera; Karlie Kloss’s opening white shirt and flowing skirt look set the standard for the rest of the sharp and chic collection which comprises of powerful dresses, silk swimwear, and lots of spaghetti straps to boot. From New York City to India in a few short minutes – Donna Karan’s sun-kissed models presented her luxury hippie spring/summer 2014 collection – a theme which was reportedly inspired by one of her recent trips to India – which just proves that she is able to spread her designer wings and escape the Big Apple if and when she warts to. It was definitely all about the tobacco and navy! Tommy Hilfiger presented a bright, colourful and effortless “when Malibu meets New York” collection which was evident from the very first look  – and the California Girls and Californication songs that the models walked down the runway too probably helped get people out of New York and onto a sandy beach! Keira Knightley takes our breath away in strapless Mary Katrantzou

Our attention this weekend was on the New York Fashion Week spring/summer 2014 catwalks and star-studded front rows. And Keira Knightley. It takes a lot to distract us from the NYFW action, but Keira Knightley’s look at the Toronto Film Festival is definitely something worth talking about. Nay – shouting from the rooftops about! Keira attended the premiere of Can a Song Save your Life? in Toronto, Canada, wearing a stunning Mary Katrantzou strapless dress for her red carpet arrival. We weren’t there so can’t say for sure, but we bet all eyes were on her for the entire evening. Keira’s look was chic, demure, attention-grabbing, bold yet subdued and just gorgeous all over. She surprised us all but still stayed true to herself, which is the perfect red carpet formula! What do you think of Keira’s minimal yet magical look? Do you love it as much as we do?

3 steps to dress for success with style

Power dressing is not about shoulder pads and a pair of loafers as is often portrayed in the media. Women in business can dress for success as much as their male counterparts but with the added bonus of not being restricted to wearing a suit everyday. Dressing authoritatively can help you to get ahead, but you should take note of a few pointers to ensure you get the balance right. 1. Don’t spend the earth The expression is “fake it ‘til you make it” which means you haven’t made it yet, so there’s no need to spend a fortune if your bank account can’t handle the hit. Shop on the high street or online to find cheaper alternatives to recreate the look you’re going for. Start as you mean to go on and get your finances straight so when the time is right your favourite designer labels are within reach, to run a credit check to get started simply click here. 2. Dress for you Dressing for success is not just about the image you project. When you spend time on your appearance and you feel more confident your productivity subsequently increases. This means that by creating a version of you externally that is powerful and successful, you will start to reflect this in your demeanor. 3. Keep your personality There is a temptation when trying to dress in a successful and businesslike manner to become quite masculine; this does not have to be the case. Pair a well-tailored skirt suit with a delicate floral blouse, or wear a smart dress you love with a sharp jacket or add hints of colour by accessorising your outfit with tones and patterns you love. The key is to make sure what you wear retains some of your personality at the same time […]

Nicki Minaj makes history on Marie Claire US August cover

This month it’s all about making history. First Andy Murray became the first British man to win Wimbledon in 77 years, and now Nicki Minaj has become the first ever rapper to cover Marie Claire US! What took the mag so long, eh? Nicki is looking fierce on the Marie Claire US August issue, rocking a Fausto Puglisi dress like a true pro. Despite wearing a Mohawk in one of the editorial pics, it’s quite a refined photoshoot by Nicki’s standards, which just goes to show that she can do understated as well as eccentric. It’s a pretty well known fact that Nicki Minaj exudes confidence on and off the stage, so she doesn’t  strike us as someone who would be shy about approaching the opposite sex. Luckily, she dished out the advice for how to entice and seduce a man… “Don’t chase any man,” she began. “Put your school first. Men love independent women. You don’t have to be a bitch, but there’s nothing wrong with it at times. And: Men are kids at heart. They want to be nourished and pet like a dog.” Erm, you read it here first! Marie Claire US August hits newsstands on July 16th. Click here for some more sneaky peaks at her photooshoot.

New York Fashion Week AW13 highlights from Carolina Herrera, Zac Posen, The Row & more

Another day at New York Fashion Week, and another infusion of stunning and versatile autumn/winter 2013 collections hitting the runway. We bet Zac Posen was feeling the pressure this season now that his profile has been raised since becoming a judge on Project Runway, but he definitely didn’t crumble under it. The A-listers and their stylists love a good Zac Posen dress for those big red carpet events, and we’re pretty convinced they’ll be able to find more than a few pieces to choose from in this collection. The orange one in particular is doing it for us, and hope someone will pick it out for an upcoming event in the near future. Elsewhere in New York, Donna Karan showcased her eponymous mainline collection, which was worlds away from the younger DKNY line which she debuted a few days earlier. The collection was a bit of an homage to her own pieces back in the day (think 1980s!) but the designer also ran with the winter weather theme given the amount of fur that came out. If the fur-loving Olsen twins didn’t have to pimp out their own clothing line, we bet they’d step out in pieces from this collection every single day if they could. And speaking of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, the twins presented yet another beautiful collection for their The Row clothing line, with incredible attention to detail in each and every piece. The Spice Girls kill it at Viva Forever premiere in London’s Piccadilly

Whether you were in the middle of London in the heart of all the action, or refreshing Twitter every 30 seconds from your office chair across the pond, we know that you were all talking about the Spice Girls’ appearance at the Viva Forever premiere in Piccadilly last night. We know we weren’t the only ones who squealed with delight and got an instant flashback to the good old nineties when four girls by the alter egos of Scary, Sporty, Baby and Ginger stepped out of a London cab and onto the red carpet. Aren’t there five Spice Girls we hear you cry? Well yes… don’t worry, Posh Spice wasn’t completely MIA – she arrived fashionably late with hubby David Beckham (swoon) and the rest of her Burberry-clad boys. All of the girls pulled out all the stops last night, serving up a sartorial treat for all their fans. We’re glad they didn’t go for matchy-matchy outfits and instead did what they do best – stand out from the crowd (and each other) and bring their own personality to their outfits. Mel C showed off her perfect pins in a gorgeous Miu Miu dress teamed with bedazzling Swarovski pumps (not a single trackie or trainer in sight), Emma kept things chic and sweet in a lace blue Erdem creation, Mel B channeled Beyonce with an ultra-glam dress that showed off her wonderfully toned figure, Geri looked like a modern-day fairy-tale princess and Victoria pulled off the androgynous luxe look she does so well in Isabel Marant trousers and a blouse and coat from her own collection. Phew! Best dressed Spice Girl?

Editor’s survival kit: London Fashion Week

As New York kicked off the month-long fashion processions last week, so London Fashion Week falls this Friday. We should be prepared, given that it only happens twice a year, but somehow it always manages to spring round the corner quicker than summer can stick around. And so, I find myself in the same situation every season. What the hell do I wear? What bag do I take to carry all my stuff? What shoes will I wear to combat the cobbles (and which flats should I take as precaution?)? While I’ve yet to answer any of those questions, there are a few things I know I’ll need: my can’t-survive-without-them essentials. From moisturiser to mints, these are things that litter my bag, without fail, every fashion week; the things that help me function; the things that help me breathe a little easier: my survival kit. So yes, while I do risk tripping over the dirt track due to some poorly-conceived heels, at least I’ll have hydrated skin. When I get stressed, so does my skin. I always keep a hand-sized tube of moisturiser in my bag to banish any dry spots inbetween shows – plus, it’s great for faking a dewy complexion pre-party (just press the palms of your hands gently onto your face as a final touch). Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream intensive daily moisturiser, £28 £25.20, available at Debenhams. From pre-party to post, I never leave the house without YSL’s Touche Eclat – it hides all signs of the night before’s bash (because though I might be feeling the effects of two hours sleep and too much champagne, nobody else need know!). Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat, £24.50 £22.05, available at Debenhams. When my skin’s looking lack-luster and lifeless after a long day of shows, I swear by […]

Gisele Bündchen: the last of the supermodels?

Some people are so well known that their name is reduced to just a word. Blake, Alexa, Posh and Naomi are all girls that need no surname to be recognised, and when it comes to the modelling, there’s Gisele. Ah yes, synonymous with impossibly long bronzed legs, Brazilian curves and that smile. But apart from being Mrs Tom Brady, new supermum – you’ll remember the scandal over her ‘breastfeeding should be law’ comments – and businesswoman extraordinaire, let’s not forget her roots. Named by none other than Naomi Campbell as the last supermodel, and after topping the Forbes Supermodel Rich List again, we chart the model highs and meteoric rise of Gisele Bündchen… Born to German-Brazilian parents in 1980, like all good supermodels her talent was spotted young, and in a McDonalds, of all places (anyone else ever seen a model scout when grabbing a burger?). At just 14 and already nearly six feet tall, Gisele began a career that would see her secure three consecutive Vogue covers by the age of 19. The real money maker for her modelling career, however, was a five year contract with Victoria’s Secret that would send her fame stellar. It was here she perfected the horse-walk – that stompy, legs lifted high strut with which she walks the catwalk. While her modelling work brought fortune and the coveted title of Leo DiCaprio’s girlfriend, Gisele has never rested on her looks. Sure, representing luxury brands including Dior, Louis Vuitton and, bizarrely enough, Apple, earned her up to $33m a year, but her other ventures include charity stints and philanthropic work (she was honoured at this year’s Global Environment Citizen Awards, in fact). But what is it that makes her so special? Her selling power, in a nutshell. Gisele’s ability to shift products from the […]

Courteney Cox loves Roland Mouret!

If you spotted Courteney Cox during her New York city Scream 4 promotions last week year, chances are you’ll have spied her fave designer. Wearing Roland Mouret twice in one day – we know – Courteney showed her fashion flair in two looks from every woman’s dream dressmaker, and boy did she work it. For her appearance on Good Morning America, the actress chose Mouret’s Covielle top tunic dress in alabaster, which she tucked into his Glawari skirt in light khaki and teamed with a coral leather jacket and tan platforms. A few hours later, she’d changed into the black Helena dress for her appearance on the Late Show With David Letterman, where she rocked a subtle but seriously sexy style. All in a day’s work, eh? Naturally she looked pretty damn hot on both occasions, but if we’re going to choose, that form-fitting Helena dress with its scultped neckline is to die for. Which is your favourite Roland Mouret look? Cast your vote in the poll below! [poll id=”91″]

Rachel Zoe’s maternity style

Only celeb stylist Rachel Zoe would consider five inch thigh-high boots appropriate maternity wear but gosh, doesn’t she do it well? Attending a Pre-Oscars party in LA last weekend, the mum-to-be wore head-to-toe black.   Since LA is experiencing some of it’s coldest days since the 1940s at the moment (no, we’re not in the least bit smug!), Rachel wrapped up in a huge shaggy fur coat. The outfit underneath was very simple – skinny jeans and a black tunic – but it’s her uber chic accessorising that takes the look from drab to directional. Adding her trademark oversized glasses and a bang on trend Seventies floppy hat, Zoe’s outfit was a far cry from the average Mothercare mum attire. What do you think of Rachel Zoe’s look? Is she a slummy or yummy Mummy? [poll id=”46″]

Natalie Portman in Vionnet

From one baby bump to the next, actress Natalie Portman is just one of the many celebrities to jump on the blooming band wagon as of late, but whilst attending the Palm Springs Film Festival in California on Saturday, the young mum-to-be proved she’s the one to watch in the maternity style stakes. Unlike Victoria, Natalie’s expecting her first child in just a few months giving her a head start in the battle of the baby bumps, and boy did she make the most of it. Dressed to impress on the night and looking positively radiant, the Black Swan actress wore a Vionnet ruffled hemline frock from the label’s SS11 collection, complete with a white chiffon upper half and gold stud collar and cuff detailing – and the loose cut streamlined her tiny bump to perfection. Picking up the Desert Palm Achievement Actress Award at the event and tipped for many more for her role in Black Swan, newly engaged Ms. Portman certainly has a lot to smile about these days – and we, for one, can’t wait to go ballerina crazy when the film’s released over here next week.
