How to Style Yourself on a Budget

Looking great doesn’t have to cost the earth; you just need to know what you are doing. First things first, take stock of what you already own. The first step is always to see what you have before you start shopping for anything new. Go through your wardrobe and look at everything in it, right down to the socks in the very back of that drawer! Then, pick quality over quantity. Buy fewer pieces of higher quality, so you won’t have to replace them as quickly as if you choose something cheaper but less well-made. In addition, classic styles and cuts will last longer than trendy items that aren’t as timeless. Items like women’s Timberland boots are never going to go out of style! Once you’ve done that, follow the rest of our tips below, and you’ll have some great new looks without making too much of a dent in your bank balance! Develop your own style When you’re ready to style yourself on a budget, it’s good to start with an open mind. If you don’t have a clear picture of your current problems or your goals, it will be harder to know where to begin. By defining the problem and setting goals, you’ll find success quicker! Discover a style that fits your personality Dressing well is about more than just putting on the latest trends. It’s about finding a style that suits your personality and attitude. When you feel good in your clothes, you look good. And when you look good, you feel confident and comfortable in your own skin. So experiment with different looks until you find one that makes you light up when you get dressed in the morning. The best way to develop a personal style that reflects your personality is to have fun with […]

Top 6 Tips for Wedding Dress Shopping

When you’re shopping for your wedding dress, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. There are so many unique dresses out there that it’s hard to narrow down what you want. If this is someone’s first time looking for a wedding dress, or if they looked before and didn’t love the experience, here are some tips that will help make the process easier. Remember to take budget into account when making these six choices! 1. Couples Should Do Research This means not only finding inspiration online but also checking with local bridal salons about their stock of gowns. Take pictures of styles that speak to a partner and bring them when trying on dresses so they won’t waste time browsing through everything in the store. If possible, make sure to find a suitable gown.  2. Figure Out the Budget The wedding dress is the focal point of wedding photos and wedding memories, so it’s important to find a wedding dress that fits your budget. The average wedding dress price around is $1500, according to Runway Bridal. This includes the wedding gown cost, alterations, and accessories such as a veil, gloves, or a bridal belt.  However, someone may spend more on a wedding dress if you choose a designer who sells high-end wedding dresses or shops at an upscale bridal boutique where wedding dresses may have price tags of up to $10,000 or more. A person can also save money by looking at wedding dress sale racks, renting a wedding dress, or buying wedding dresses made from cheaper fabrics. 3. Someone’s Body Type Can Determine the Wedding Dress Shape One of the most important things brides should know when shopping for wedding dresses is the type of body shape they have. They need to choose wedding dresses that complement their wedding dress shape. […]

What Will Be the Biggest Everyday Fashion Trends of 2021?

The beginning of the year is the peak time for trend-setting. It’s always top of our list to see what is becoming popular early on, and what will carry on throughout the year. As we look to the new year for new inspiration and fresh ideas, here are a few predictions for the biggest trends of 2021. Minimal-makeup, skin-focused beauty The opportunity and reasons for wearing makeup were significantly reduced in 2020, with most of us spending time at home with family or alone, and this led to more people taking an ‘au natural’ approach to their faces. Although makeup experimentation has never been more interesting or artful, for day-to-day wear and trending looks, a less-is-more approach works for our bank accounts, the environment, and our pores. Brands like Glossier, IT Cosmetics, and Jecca Blac all take a ‘your features but improved’ approach to their products, which is appealing for many, regardless of age, gender, or skin type. Headwear: Baseball caps We may consider these the domain of teenage boys’ wardrobes in the 90s or dads at family barbecues, but baseball caps look set to make a comeback in 2021. Notably, in the Hedi Slimane (CELINE) Summer 2021 show, in which Slimane wanted to show ‘youth and optimism’, every single look featured the retro accessory. Loungewear and sports clothing became more popular than ever in 2020, and that energy is matched by the fun caps that we have seen sported by supermodels like Gigi Hadid and Kaia Gerber recently. Time to dust off your dad’s old Mets cap? More casual wear in Haute Couture In the same vein as baseball caps, the popularity of sweatpants, tracksuits, and snuggly shirts made their way into women’s luxury fashion last year; and it looks set to continue. Brands like Valentino, Gucci, and Dior […]

How Fashion Nova is at the Forefront of Ultra-Fast Fashion

Compared to today, the fashion world used to move at a snail’s pace. Designers would spend ages planning out their collections for each of the four seasons, trying to predict what might be fashionable in the next several months. After their collections debuted on the world’s biggest runways, their styles would trickle down from high end retailers to the department stores before they finally ended up on the bargain sale rack. The lifespan of a trend could sometimes be six months up to a year.  In the digital age, life moves much faster, and so do trends. These days, ultra-fast fashion is the name of the game, and Fashion Nova is clearly winning. The retailer, which launched with one Los Angeles-based store in 2006 and now has a massive online presence, pushes the boundaries when it comes to speed, consumer engagement, and customer satisfaction.  What makes Fashion Nova the leader in ultra-fast fashion is their unique ability to mobilize their partners and provide trendy clothing faster than you can say “Millennial Pink”. Their design and buying team works with more than 1000 manufacturers globally to produce quality, affordable clothing at unmatched speeds. Fashion Nova’s Los Angeles based manufacturers can create desired samples within 24 hours. Usually within 48 hours, the looks are completed, fitted on in-house models, and shot for Fashion Nova’s massively trafficked website.  These styles have easy to search names like “Classy and Sassy” and “Bad Girls Club,” so if a customer sees something they like featured on Instagram, they don’t have to type in a long complicated serial number to find it on the website. Additionally, if the look is not yet available, customers can ask to be notified when a piece is in stock. When a highly anticipated look does hit the site, it can sell […]

Valentino Showcased Its Pre-Fall 2019 Collection In Tokyo

Hosting their first ever show in Tokyo, Japan, last night also saw Valentino drop a pre-fall collection for the first time since the 1980’s. In stark contrast to the concrete warehouse it was held in, the dreamy Pre-Fall 2019  collection celebrated Japanese culture and was dominated by luxurious red pieces along with gothic black looks and sprinkles of monochrome and florals. On why creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli looked to Japan for inspiration, he said, “I have always been fascinated by the people and the culture of Japan, more than the surface.” He continued, “I didn’t want to take the images of Japan and treat them in a couture or Valentino way, but I wanted to bring the culture of Japan because it is close to my idea of beauty. For me beauty is about diversity, it is about individualism, and intimacy.” To conclude, red petal roses littered the runway while Kaia Gerber and Adut Akech sashayed down the runway in coordinating romantic gowns. Perfection. [Images]

The Crossover Between High-End Fashion And Art

Have you ever wondered about the connection between fashion and art? Believe it or not, these two creative fields have influenced each other for centuries. From using fine art techniques in fashion design to clothing serving as inspiration for famous paintings, the fashion and art worlds are more intertwined than you may think. In this article, we’ll look at the most iconic examples of fashion meeting art. Understanding these crossovers gives an appreciation for how creative expression can take many forms. 1. The Robe à la Française Back in the 18th century, the ornate French Rococo style was all the rage. This movement within the decorative arts focused on elaborate, asymmetrical designs that prioritized decoration over simplicity. Rococo style also utilized pastel colors, gold filigree, and nature-inspired motifs. The robe à la Française reflected many of these Rococo ideals. This garment featured a fitted bodice with a low-cut square neckline that flowed into a full skirt. The overskirt was parted to reveal an underskirt, often intricately embroidered or trimmed in lace or ribbons. This iconic dress mirrored common Rococo themes seen in painting, sculpture, and architecture at the time. The robe à la Française demonstrates how fashion absorbed artistic tendencies within the cultural zeitgeist of the period. 2. Cubist Fashion In the early 20th century, Cubism was shaking up the art world. This avant-garde movement, led by Picasso and Braque, fragmented figures and objects into abstract, geometric forms. Cubist artists aimed to depict subjects from multiple viewpoints at once. Cubist style also influenced fashion design. Decorative cubist patterns were incorporated into fabrics, like those produced by the Wiener Werkstätte textile workshop. Fashion designers like Sonia Delaunay also experimented with cubist-inspired motifs in her garments. Delaunay’s Robe Simultanée, for example, featured colorful interlocking rectangles reminiscent of analytic cubism. Just as Cubist […]

2018’s Biggest Casual Wear Trends

Casual wear is sometimes lumped into a category of its own, but even in high fashion it always has its place. The pre-season runways for 2018 were packed with styles, cuts, trends and colours that all translate effortlessly into our leisure wardrobe. If you’re looking to update your approach to casual wear in the new year, here’s a quick rundown of 2018’s biggest trends. Denim According to British Vogue, denim is making a comeback in 2018 in a big way – not that it ever truly left in the first place. Nothing says casual wear quite like denim, but now your favourite blue jeans are practically considered haute couture. Next year’s denim trends encompass absolutely everything, from slouchy jackets to tapered trousers and loose button-ups, so expect to find tonnes of options that are instantly weekend-ready. Colourful trainers Bold, bright colours will be dominating our wardrobes next year, and this extends all the way to casual footwear, too. Colourful women’s trainers are easy on our feet and offer a pop of brightness that makes even the simplest take on casual wear truly stand out. Tu’s selection of trainers showcase not only a selection of vibrant colours, but funky prints too. Shorts Though not quite as versatile as the other trends on this list – you may have to wait until spring and summer before indulging – shorts will play a big part in our 2018 leisure wardrobe. Tailored, high-waisted and even cycling shorts are all expected to return. Even silky, pyjama-style shorts have been deemed acceptable for wearing outside of a slumber party. Wide-leg trousers According to Pinterest’s top beauty and fashion pins for the future, wide-leg trousers came in at number five for big 2018 trends. Culottes and seventies-style bell bottoms were big in 2017, not least due to their ability to combine […]

How women’s style can make your wardrobe pop

When your style needs an adrenaline shot of individuality, women’s fashion might not be your first port of call. But since Coco Chanel first drew the sleek lines on her iconic little black dress in the roaring twenties, female and male designs have fed from each other symbiotically to influence some of the most iconic designs. Chanel broke the mould when she borrowed from male style to dress women in trousers, so maybe it’s high time you felt less self-conscious about taking tips from the fairer sex. So, if you’re tired of the same stale and staid choices from your favourite brands and want to pep up your wardrobe for a boardroom power meeting or a black tie event, here are a few ideas on how female fashion can make your wardrobe pop. Elegant evening dress Paris remains the global couture capital, so why not steal some sleek evening dress ideas from AX Paris as you prep your outfit for a night on the town with your significant other? For example, a touch of floral embroidery on your tuxedo provides a certain je ne sais quoi. Outstanding office attire Many employers no longer insist a tie is compulsory but, when dressing to impress a new client, you can insert a bit of personality to your favourite business suit with a pair of pristine two-tone brogues. For a finishing flourish, top off this look with a fantastic fedora. Spinning it onto the hat stand first time like James Bond will make you an office legend, but get some practise at home first. Casual court classics Since Fred Perry first strutted his stuff at Wimbledon, male and female tennis styles have provided a rich seam of classic styles that transcended sport. And you don’t need to smash a serve like Federer to […]

Best Dressed At The Oscars 2017: Brie Larson, Chrissy Teigen, Taraji P. Henson And More!

There’s no doubt that this year’s Oscars will go down in history as being one of the most memorable ceremonies to date. From La La Land incorrectly receiving Moonlights award for best picture, to tourists crashing the festivities and Chrissy Teigen taking a nap during Casey Affleck’s speech. Yep, it was definitely one to remember. We wish we could say the same for the red carpet, however. With just a few “wow” dresses, it didn’t take too long to narrow down the best dressed list.  Metallics along with safe colours such as black and white were the most popular choices with many of Hollywood’s starlets getting it quite wrong. But we’re not here to name and shame. Instead we’re going to give props to the actresses whom effortlessly nailed it. Bringing a flamenco vibe to the red carpet Brie Larson kept it simple and sophisticated in a strapless ruffled gown by Oscar de la Renta dress and paired with Aquazzura sandals. Never one to get it wrong, Halle Berry combined two of the biggest trends of the night – metallics and fringe – with this figure hugging Versace couture gown. Jessica Biel gave major life to the term “golden goddess” with this beautiful floor length creation with a fringe collar by KaufmanFranco. Chrissy Teigen opted for Zuhair Murad to show off her fabulous figure. With a sexy thigh-high split, this is possibly one of our absolute fave dresses of the night. We had no doubt that Taraji P Henson would give us life with her choice of outfit and boy did she not disappoint. Wearing a custom made Alberta Ferretti gown with a plunging neckline the Hidden Figures actress brought glamour in high doses. Designed by red carpet favourites, Ralph & Russo, we adore Priyanka Chopra’s futuristic, structured white gown. Taking it back […]

Stay On Trend This Winter With Our Top Tips

As much as we’d like to deny it, summer has left abruptly and it seems as though it’s taken autumn along with it. What we’re left with are short days, long nights and some very icy temperatures. And while it might pain you to pack away those shorts and T-shirts until next year, there are many clothing items you can look forward to breaking out before the snow starts to fall. Below, we’ll look at the latest trends as well as must-have pieces for the 2016 winter season. Puffer Jackets Undoubtedly one of the warmest pieces of outerwear available, puffer jackets have seen a resurgence in recent years. Not only that, but they’ve been dubbed one of seven statement pieces to have this winter and have been seen all over the AW16 catwalks. And while oversized puffer jackets might have been all the rage on the runways, you can find slightly more sensible and haute-couture versions at Uniqlo or Topshop. Invest in Basics Always understated but overwhelmingly necessary, basics such as blouses, stockings and cardigans are pieces which always seem to slip by unnoticed until you realize you need a surplus of all of them! They may be ubiquitous, but that’s not to say that these pieces need to be boring. You can pick up some simple, tasteful, and stylish pieces from places like Peter Hahn that will help augment statement items and complete a look. A Sharp-Shouldered Blazer 2016 is the year that the 80s has made a comeback. We’ve seen it not only in fashion, but generally throughout popular culture. So if you’re keen to take a cue from that trend, invest in a sharp-shouldered blazer that will go amazingly with a crop top and a pair of flat ankle boots. If you’re willing to go full 80s, […]

Could It Be? Are Emma Stone And Andrew Garfield Back Together?

If there ever was a celeb love story set to give us major life, it’d be Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield rekindling their romance. After an amicable break-up last year, the pair were spotted earlier this week taking a stroll through Convent Garden, leading fans (and us) to  “hope” that they are a couple once again. But alas, while we would love for nothing more than our two favourite actors to get back together, it would seem it was nothing more than close friends spending quality time together, as our wishful thinking was shut down swiftly after a source confirmed to People that, “They’re definitely not dating”. Well, we’re still keeping our fingers crossed…

You’re a glamour puss, a thriving fashionista, a towering figure of couture quality – but you still can’t think of what to wear on your first date. It’s a problem we’ve all faced, that nail-biting dilemma of which dress to choose, which heels will match, and which clutch bag will tie the entire outfit together. What’s more, you’re not even sure what kind of date you’re supposed to be going on. Is this a casual meet-up, the kind where you grab a cup of coffee and a cake, or is it the whole shebang, where you’ll head to a classy restaurant and maybe nip back to theirs for a ‘coffee’ afterwards? It’s impossible to tell, especially in the era of Tinder and Netflix and chill, where ‘meeting up’ could be synonymous with ‘hooking up’ or ‘a romantic dinner for two’. Now now, calm yourself down and take a deep breath. You can get through this. Just chill out and look at our fashion tips. You’ll be ready to meet your new potential beau in no time. Dresses reduce stresses Floral dresses are always a safe option as they’re extremely versatile. You could comfortably sit in a coffee shop wearing a floral midi dress – but they could also see you through to an impromptu dinner date at a classy restaurant, or even a trip to the opera. The floral dress should be a staple of your dating attire, especially if you’re not too sure what format your date will take. It’s the even hand of dresses, the Jeremy Corbyn of dresses, unlikely to rock the boat.  The safe haven of a bag An effective bag is vital on a first date, preferably one that can fit all your most valued cosmetics. If you end up in a kitsch nightclub, it’s […]

CFDA Awards 2016: Beyoncé Gives Her Most Inspirational Speech Yet!

She’s currently working on global domination with her Formation world tour but not even that could keep Beyoncé from taking time out to attend the CFDA awards which took place last night in New York, to accept the Fashion Icon Award. It was all very, hush hush as to whom would have the honour of receiving the prestigious award but with 2016 being her year of major slay both in the music and style arena, there really was no competition. Wearing a crystal embellished Givenchy tux and a wide-brimmed hat, Queen Bey took it waaaay back in her acceptance speech, reminding us of the days when Mama Tina would create their costumes. Remember those days? Even we were a tad nostalgic thinking back to those matching Destiny Child outfits, the clashing colours and ripped skirts as well as the blinged out dresses – all made by hand by Tina Knowles herself. Speaking to the fashion industry’s elite at the Hammerstein Ballroom she said, “Starting out in Destiny’s Child, high-end labels didn’t really want to dress four black country curvy girls, and we couldn’t afford designer dresses and couture. My mother was rejected from every showroom in New York. But like my grandmother, she used her talent and her creativity to give her children their dreams. My mother and my uncle, God rest his soul, made all of our first costumes, individually sewing hundreds of crystals and pearls, putting so much passion and love into every small detail. When I wore these clothes I felt like Khaleesi. I had an extra suit of armour. It was so much deeper than any brand name. My mother is fabulous and beautiful and she’s here tonight. My mother, my grandmother, and my uncle are always with me so I cannot fail. My mother actually […]

Best Dressed At The Oscars 2016

The Oscar’s red carpet left us feeling rather underwhelmed. Perhaps our expectations were too high? The majority of our favourite starlets pretty much pulled a Jennifer Aniston and Kate Winslet; minimal looks with next to none accessories. Only a few including Naomi Watts, Saoirse Ronan and Sofia Vergara really went ALL out glam. Cate Blanchett (whom we couldn’t wait to see!) nailed it and while Jennifer Garner opted for black *yawn* she was the epitome of classy chic. Other highlights of the night? Well, there’s no way we can’t not mention Leo’s well deserved win (finally!), Chris Rocks often controversial but much needed opening monologue….and Lady Gaga’s powerful performance with survivors of campus rape. All in all, while it wasn’t the best Oscars to date (we have a feeling next year will be so much better), it wasn’t too bad either. Here’s our top 10 best dressed! Cate Blanchett wearing Armani Prive Charlize Theron wearing Dior Couture Jennifer Garner wearing Atelier Versace Jennifer Lawrence wearing Dior couture  Margot Robbie wearing Tom Ford Naomi Watts wearing Armani Prive Priyanka Chopra wearing Zuhair Murad Saoirse Ronan wearing Calvin Klein Sofia Vergara wearing Marchesa Alicia Vikander wearing Louis Vuitton [Images]

How To Recreate Emmy Rossum’s Makeup At The 2016 Critics Choice Awards

The best thing about award season? Well, aside from lusting after the decadent red carpet gowns, has got to be all the hair and make-up inspo. While, we may not be able to afford couture, we certainly can recreate some of our fave beauty looks and this year we absolutely adored Emmy Rossum Parisian-inspired makeup at the 21st annual Critics’ Choice Awards. The timeless look was all down to the handiwork of celebrity makeup artist Jo Baker. “Emmy fancied super sleek and modern hair – I suggested that a soft looking radiant skin and lips would be perfect but the main focus being on her eyes.” said Baker. Here’s a complete breakdown of the products used and how to apply: EYES After prepping Rossum’s skin, Baker took Rimmel London ScandalEyes Eyeshadow Stick in Trespassing Taupe and dabbed a few rough dots along the base of her eyelid. Then working quickly smudged it over Emmy’s eyelid using her fingertip, creating a shadow base for Emmy’s eye makeup. Next, the celebrity makeup artist applied Rimmel London Exaggerate Smoke ’n Shine Eyeliner in Little Black Smokey along the actress’ lash line and smudged it with a small brush. She then slathered Rimmel London ScandalEyes Eyeshadow Stick in Bad Girl Bronze inside Rossum’s waterline, making sure some of the liner got stuck in her lower lashes, and then smudged it with the end of her fingertip, “This adds a little warmth around Emmy’s eye, which works great with her brown eyes,” said Baker. For thick long-lasting lashes, Baker applied several generous coats of Rimmel London ScandalEyes XX-treme Mascara in Black and lastly dotted Rimmel London ScandalEyes Eyeshadow Stick in Whitness White on the inner corners of Rossum’s eyes to brighten. SKIN For radiant glowing skin, Baker applied  Rimmel London Lasting Finish 25HR Foundation in Ivory and using a small blender eyeshadow brush, applied a couple of strokes of RimmelLondon Good To Glow Highlighter […]

Nighttime Wear: Fascinating Pajama Facts Most People Don’t Know

If you mention wearing pajamas or PJ’s as they often get shortened to, it is likely that you will conjure up an image of something snuggly and warm and your thoughts will turn to bed time and maybe hot chocolate too. There is something instantly comforting and appealing about pajamas that many of us might associate with our childhood years at first, but PJ’s have become mainstream for grown-up’s too and even adults can get footie pajamas and a whole range of nighttime wear. Colonial origins The word pajama that we use today to describe this popular nighttime attire, originates from the Indian word piejamah, which describes loose pants that were secured by being tied at the waist. These comfortable trousers were popular with British colonials who considered them to be the perfect thing to change into for an afternoon nap while the sun was beating down outside. It did not take long from this point to before the piejamah became the perfect companion for sleeping at any time and when the colonials returned back to Britain, the trend did not take long to catch hold. Footed pajamas Although many people tend to associate footed pajamas with kids, they actually started out as being a design that was intended for adults. The very first versions of footed pajamas were created when people decided to sew socks to the bottom of their pajama pants, but it was not done just for warmth, as the addition helped to keep their toes protected from bugs like termites. Au naturel Millions of pairs of pajamas are sold every year but there are still plenty of men who are trying to resist the lure of the nighttime garment, by sleeping au natural. It seems than just over 45% of British men are not aware of […]

What to Wear to a Charity Event?

What the North East may lack in sunshine, it more than makes up for in style. The area has a rich history of statement fashion and pioneering design. Of course, true style comes from one’s ability to tailor their look to any occasion, and with Amilio Couture’s Charity Fashion Show just around the corner, it is important to know how to bring the best out of yourself for such a prestigious event. Amilio Couture’s Charity Fashion Show is being hosted by St James’ Park, Newcastle, on Thursday 30 July, and is being held to help raise money for Children with Cancer UK. As well as being for a great cause, the event also gives you the chance to see Amilio Couture’s summer range, while enjoying a champagne reception, canapés, a Toni and Guy goodie bag on arrival, and a prize raffle. Perhaps the most exciting element of the night, though, is choosing what to wear! Charity events call for a particular type of fashion, where a balance of style and elegance must be perfectly calculated to not only dress appropriately, but to turn heads. With the charity fashion show being a North East event, we have kindly been supplied with some advice from Jules B, a local fashion boutique. Here are a few garments and accessories that would guarantee your status as the belle of the charity ball: The Little Black Dress — Versus Versace Mini Dress For the classic formal-chic look, the little black dress cannot be overlooked. Clinging to all the right places, the dress is flexible in that it can form part of sophisticated and casual ensembles. It is the perfect garment for a charity event, especially for those who value comfort as well as glamour. For a designer LBD, the Versus Versace cut-out mini dress is […]

How To Get Supermodel Style On A Budget

Glamorous supermodels earn their reputation from looking fabulous in every respect – hair, fashion and makeup. However, there’s no need to spend a fortune on stylists, designer wear or makeup artists to adopt supermodel style if you know the tricks of the trade. Instead, pay attention to some of the key principles and be clever with your cash to make the most of your personal supermodel status. Here are a few ideas to help you get started: Your crowning glory Unless they’re getting ready for the runway, supermodels tend to make sure their hair is styled quite naturally and is always clean and shiny. Whether your hair is long or short you can use inexpensive shine drops to bring out the colour and make it look extra smooth and glossy – simply add a few drops and work them through your hair, starting at the ends and moving towards your scalp before blow-drying. Use on frizzy locks as long as you’re careful about the area around your hairline, as adding too much will make your hair look greasy. There are many different brands, including some containing organic products only, so you may want to shop around to find one that suits you best. Your wardrobe Supermodels don’t only wear designer garments, and certainly not all the time. Instead, they have developed the knack of combining stylish items from high street as well as designer stores in unique ways. To make this work you should aim to include one or two “statement” pieces in your wardrobe – these might be a designer bag, a scarf, a pair of shoes, a belt or a top, for example. This means you can dress up the clothes you buy from a great-value online portal, such as for-sale.co.uk, with a little touch of designer class. […]

Get Rihanna’s striking and chic Maison Margiela look

Rih Rih’s always had our hearts but the deal was officially sealed when the stylish starlet graced the red carpet at the 57th Grammy Awards in  Giambattista Valli couture…*swoon*. Swapping Valli for Margiela, Rihanna performed in a black trouser suit from Maison Margiela’s SS15 collection and looked gorgeous. In fact, we adored her look so much, that we dedicated this week’s “get the look” feature to the pop princess. Now, if you don’t own a black trouser suit then you must and we repeat must, invest in one for the seasons ahead. Along with it’s white counterpart, this year the black trouser suit will feature heavily in both spring/summer and autumn/winter trends, so it’s well worth investing in this timeless wardrobe staple. To re-create Rihanna’s look we love Jaeger’s soft tailored jacket and trousers. Pair with Kurt Geiger’s gold fabric shoes and this smoking hot Saint Laurent classic monogram black glitter clutch. Finally accessorize with Swarovski’s exquisite all-round necklace for an effortless-glam look!

Our 10 best dressed at the 2015 Grammy Awards

This year’s Grammys were eventful to say the least but not even Kanye could steal the spotlight from the ladies that ruled the red carpet. The biggest trend without a shadow of a doubt was a heavy dose of bling, glam and figure hugging dresses, but thankfully there were those who broke the rules and thought outside of the box. Naturally Rihanna rebelled and we’re so glad she did! Love or hate her outfit at least she gave us something different! Here’s our 10 best dressed celebs… Wearing one of our fave couture looks this season courtesy of Giambattista Valli, Rihanna was a delight in this show-stopping, pink strapless gown. Cue all the “cupcake” jokes….. Always one of our red carpet favourites, Chrissy Teigen failed to disappoint in this perfect white floor-length gown by Emilio Pucci. Gwyneth Paltrow showed off her gorgeous long legs in this Saint Laurent sparkly number paired with beautiful stilettos.   Custom made by Proenza Schouler, Beyoncé opted for a plunging v-neck gown to accentuate her bootylicious curves. Katharine McPhee’s first Grammy red carpet saw the singer looking lovely and demure in an Emilio Pucci coral cut-out evening gown with silver hardware. Deciding not to opt for a traditional dress, Gwen Stefani as usual was on trend in this edgy Atelier Versace strapless jumpsuit with netting detail. Yes, yes and yes! Elie Saab is to thank for this ADORABLE combination of evening gown meets party dress complimented perfectly with Giuseppe Zanotti heels and modelled to perfection on Taylor Swift.   Rocking none other than Tom Ford, Nicki Minaj was nothing short of stunning. Classic, understated and absolutely gorge. We’ve been loving Versace’s red carpet gowns of late and this beauty on Ariana Grande is no exception. With chainmail detail and cut-outs in all the right place, Ariana gets a thumbs up […]

Five minutes with designer Gyunel Rustamova

Maleficent meets modern day Cinderella. That’s probably the best way to describe designer Gyunel Rustamova’s aesthetic. Her designs are as empowering as they are feminine, romantic yet edgy and embody all the aspects of women that make us so unique. Born in Azerbaijan, Gyunel, founded her eponymous label after a successful career as an artist. Her rich culture along with her love for art can be found in her breathtaking collections which encompass ready-to-wear, couture and a private dressmaking service all available at her atelier located in the heart of South Kensington. We caught up with Gyunel to talk all things fashion, beauty and travel. What’s a typical working day like for you?   It’s very multifunctional, I am the operational manager and the creative director of the brand, so I chase tasks from administrative sides and design in between. The day runs out quite quickly, so at the end of the day I always wish there were 5 of me or that the working day was longer. Favourite season? Spring, summer, autumn or winter?   I would not choose in-between them to be honest, I like the fact that every 3 months we get the transition, I would not want to live somewhere where its cold or hot all year around. Your SS15 collection, “tells the story of a nomadic traveller”.  Are you a keen traveller yourself? Yes, the collection was firstly inspired by me being the nomad and not settling down anywhere, I do feel that I am the world citizen and have no problems with bonding with people of different backgrounds. Deeper and second stage of inspiration for the collection was more visual, about beauty of the desert sand and crawling scorpions with their footprints. ….and your favourite holiday destination and why? I love travelling back home to Baku each season as I meet my family […]

Our 10 best dressed at the 2015 Golden Globes

We’ve had Golden Globes fever here at MFL today! After sifting through a ton of dress releases at a ridiculously early hour this morning and drinking copious amounts of coffee while debating on who should make the cut, we’ve finally managed to narrow down our faves. We must admit, quite a few celebs “got it right”. We were treated to a variety of dreamy dresses, from strapless to cut-out, thigh-high splits and one-shouldered gowns with white being the most popular colour of choice. Selecting the final 10 was a challenge to say the least. But we did it! Here’s our 10 best dressed celebs at the 2015 Golden Globes… AMY ADAMS Amy Adams was the epitome of old school glam in a custom-made, one-shouldered Atelier Versace gown embellished with Swarovski crystal detail on the back and wore the Jimmy Choo “Patsy” platform sandals to complete her look. ANNA KENDRICK Anna Kendrick nailed it in a Monique Lhuillier Pre-Fall 2015 blush tulle sleeveless v-neck gown with ruby beading paired with Brian Atwood’s “Tribeca” sandals. CHRISSY TEIGEN Her crying face might be the most embarrassing meme from the night but model Chrissy Teigen radiated in a blush pink beaded gown by Zuhair Murad. DIANE KRUGER Diane Kruger was every inch the ice-maiden in this silver shimmery gown by Emelia Wickstead. We can all agree that everything about this outfit screams “gorgeous!”. FELICITY JONES Possibly our favourite of the evening, Felicity Jones was classic and oh-so chic in a  Dior Haute Couture petrol blue silk faille gown paired with a a Dior clutch. The actress also opted for the satin Tribeca sandals by Brian Atwood (custom-dyed to match her dress). HEIDI KLUM Oh Heidi, why oh why are you so damn stunning? We were literally lost for words when we saw the supermodel in this red silk chiffon custom-made Atelier Versace gown. […]

From Chanel to Dior – why Paris is still the heart of fashion

When you think of Paris, fashion is always the first word that pops into your head. The City of Culture is known throughout the world for its high number of artists and designer residents, from painters selling their work on the streets in Montmatre, to the designers working for the world’s most prestigious fashion houses. Paris’ vibrant creative scene is the reason so many tourists flock to the city every year, to live out their dreams of renting a little studio in the Latin quarter and spending their days walking along the Seine, or sitting outside coffee shops watching the world’s most stylish residents walk by, now being made available to tourists through Housetrip for short tourism trips. The city has been the centre of the fashion industry since the reign of Louis XIV. The King was very enthusiastic about fashion and encouraged everyone at Versailles to follow suite. He demanded certain types of dress for certain events and started the first Parisian guild of seamstresses, made up of women endorsed by his highness to make clothes. In modern times, famous Parisians like Coco Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Dior revolutionised the fashion industries of their eras. Coco Chanel influenced the way women dressed all over the world with her effortless and elegant clothes in the early 1920s, while Christian Dior invented the New Look after the war. In the 1960s, Yves Saint Laurent modernised the stuffy world of couture with his daring Le Smoking tuxedos for women. It’s a testimony to all three designers that their names live on as three of the biggest fashion houses in production today. Not only are their labels still around, but they are as desirable as ever. The fashion world still takes its lead from Paris. London, Milan and New York might […]

The December covers we’re crushing on. Which is your fave?

What better way to cement your return than on the cover of Vogue Australia? Model and actress, Gemma Ward graces the cover in Dior Couture and we think she looks fab. Celebrating it’s 55th anniversary, Vogue Australia is the fourth oldest in the world after it’s counterparts Vogue US, UK and France. In other mag cover news, are you loving the the December issue covers as much as we are? Kate Moss has not one but two for Vogue UK of which we prefer the simple shot of Kate wearing a named necklace. In contrast, Nicki Minaj is decadent and fierce on the cover of V Magazine. Like Kate, Nicki was photographed by Mario Testino and she certainly left an impression. Testino tweeted, “Nicki rocked us with her looks and her strength. She was comfortable in all situations.’I was amazed by her.” Shot by Steven Meisel, Carolyn Murphy looks every inch the supermodel for Vogue Italia while inspirational Carey Mulligan glows for Harpers Bazaar. Last but not least, she’s back causing a storm on Instagram….how could we not include our beloved Rih Rih. Hitting stands on 18th of November, Rihanna shines on the cover of Elle US

Jennifer Lawrence is picture perfect at Hunger Games world premiere

Yesterday evening, A-listers and fans alike descended on London’s Leicester Square for the world premiere of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. We must admit we were SUPER excited to see what the films leading ladies had in store for us and thankfully we weren’t disappointed. Jennifer Lawrence and Elizabeth Banks equally stole the show. Naturally as the face of Miss Dior, Jennifer Lawrence hit the red carpet in Christian Dior. Complementing her amazing figure, Jen wowed in a fitted off-white diamond shaped quilted dress. Emphasizing her eyes, she kept her make-up clean and pulled her hair back for an ultra-chic look that we think is her best to date. On the other side of the spectrum, Elizabeth Banks nailed the fairytale trend in a romantic couture gown by none other than the master of red carpet dresses, Elie Saab. We literally squealed in delight at the sight of Banks in this opulent, floral beauty of a gown. We can’t wait to see what the ladies have in store for us for the rest of the tour. [Images]

Angelina Jolie wears Ralph & Russo to receive Honorary Damehood

It’s now Dame Angelina, to you. Her Majesty the Queen presented Angelina Jolie with an Honorary Damehood on Friday, in recognition of all her work against sexual violence. The event took place at Buckingham Palace with Brad Pitt and their six children proudly in attendance (although they weren’t in any of the official photographs). “To receive an honour related to foreign policy means a great deal to me, as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to,” Angelina said. “Working on PVSI and with survivors of rape is an honour in itself. I know that succeeding in our goals will take a lifetime, and I am dedicated to it for all of mine.” Such powerful words from a woman so truly deserving of the honour. And of course we have to mention how chic and elegant Angelina looked for her royal visit… Angelina wore an elegant grey skirt suit from the Ralph & Russo spring/summer 2014 collection (one of Angelina’s go-to designers of the past few years – and one which has been favoured by Kate Middleton herself!) and looked absolutely beautiful from head to toe. We love how she once again championed the British Couture designers – and Buckingham Palace couldn’t have been a better place to showcase their work! Congratulations Dame Angelina Jolie for your well-deserved honour. Keep doing what you’re doing!

Jessica Chastain dazzles in Armani Privé for Harper’s Bazaar UK November

Thank you Harper’s Bazaar UK for this absolutely dreamy cover! As you can see from the picture above, Jessica Chastain has been chosen as Harper’s Bazaar UK’s November cover girl – and the mag couldn’t have picked a more appropriate dress for this continuously rising star of Hollywood. As well as posing in a starry, dreamy Armani Privé dress on the cover – as shot by David Slijper – Jessica can also be seen wearing Oscar red carpet worthy dresses from the likes of Christian Dior Couture and Valentino Couture, among others. The Oscar-nominated actress (she was up for the Best Actress gong for her role in Zero Dark Thirty, remember?) opens up to the mag about a number of interesting topics, but it was what she said about her time away from work that stuck with us the most… “I started to feel really negative about myself, down on who I am, and then I realized it’s because I’ve had so much time away from me that I don’t really know what I like to do anymore,” she revealed. “I’m out of it now, but there was this feeling of being sad or depressed… wanting to go to another project … Perhaps it is like an addiction… maybe the past three months were my withdrawal!” Yikes – poor Jessica! Don’t worry though, we’ve read the rest of the interview and it looks like she’s now snapped out of it! Harper’s Bazaar UK’s November issue is out right now, so make sure you snap up your copy to read the rest of Jessica’s interview and gaze at more breath-taking pics.
