Driven By Style: Why The New DS 3 Is The Perfect Car For Fashion Lovers

To celebrate the launch of the new DS 3, last weekend I took a trip to Westfield London to see the luxury “avant-garde” car in all it’s glory and participate in a fun style challenge. Before I get into the ins and outs of the challenge I have to start by saying that the event space looked amazing. DS Automobiles took over Westfield London’s central atrium with various versions of the DS 3 Hatchback, Cabrio and Performance, an eye-catching installation with lots of bold and bright shirts and a huge screen playing the ad campaign which features our favourite 94 year old style icon and DS 3 brand ambassador Iris Apfel. Visitors also had the opportunity to participate in the campaign and strike a pose (or two) in a cute photo-booth for a chance to win a number of prizes including a styling session, a £500 Westfield Gift Card and use of the DS 3 for a week. Now I absolutely love Iris (she’s an absolute legend) so while I most definitely was looking forward to the style challenge, I have to admit, I was intrigued to find out a bit more about the DS 3 which has over 3 million personalisation options.  And I’m pleased to say I wasn’t disappointed at all. I completely understand the alignment with Iris. Known for breaking every single rule in the fashion book and more importantly for ignoring society’s norms to create a life of her choosing, the unique and stylish DS 3 is not only perfect for city dwellers but also for those who aspire to live life to the beat of their own drum. AW14 Jewellery Report: Spring Fair & LFW

Jewellery has immersed itself as an indispensable part of fashion; gone is the divide between costume jewellery and fine jewellery. More specifically, since the rise of the elaborate bib necklace and body jewellery, accessories are longer a decorative afterthought but a key feature of any outfit. This was all unquestionably apparent at the most recent Spring Fair trade show at the NEC back in February and also at London Fashion Week AW/14. Today, no outfit is complete without the perfect piece of jewellery and this has been no secret at recent trade exhibitions. But whilst on one hand we have bold and daring left-field designers such as KTZ adorning their catwalk models in shameless trimmings, we also have some tenacious classics creeping back in. Statement Pieces: KTZ, Simone Rocha & Jane Bowler At LFW, KTZ certainly made its mark with its powerful and authoritative accessories, along with Simone Rocha’s unashamed applications of large, gold adornments. Primark will open its first ever US store in Boston in Massachusetts, with a 70,000 sq-ft shop that’s due to be ready by the end of 2015. Just a year and a bit to wait, which isn’t really that long at all when you think about it. “After extensive research, it has been decided to take the Primark concept to consumers in the USA,” said George Weston, chief executive of Associated British Foods – the owners of Primark. “We think we have as differentiated and attractive a proposition in the US as we have in continental Europe and the British Isles. MARY KATRANTZOU AW14 COLLECTION She may have been dubbed the digital print queen by way of her hypnotising design USP of seasons past, but Mary Katrantzou took a refreshing detour this season. Dizzying print work was replaced by symbols that held a deeper meaning; school badges, medals, clock faces, a coat of arms all made an appearance, intricately embroidered onto fuzzy sweatshirts, patchworked onto maxi skirts and running down pleated gowns to resemble a holy vestment. Suits cut in jacquard are set to become the fashion set’s new favourites, and one in particular – a bird-print skirt suit with pleated gym-skirt – demanded attention. Well, 2013 has definitely been an exciting year in this here fashion world, hasn’t it? Christmas has definitely come early for the six designers shortlisted for this year’s BFC/Vogue Fashion Fund, and those designers are – in no particular order of awesomeness – Mary Katrantzou, House of Holland, Zoe Jordan, Osman, Emilia Wickstead and Peter Pilotto. All worthy of the £200,000 sponsorship we think you’ll agree! “The BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund has a proven track record of enabling British designers to make the transition from rising stars to incredible international businesses,” said Caroline Rush, chief executive of the British Fashion Council. “The strength of this year’s shortlist represents a generation of talent who are ready for the financial and mentoring support that the Fund offers.” We’ll say! The Fund, which is supported by Vogue, Burberry, Clothing at Tesco, Debenhams, Harrods, Paul Smith and Topshop will offer the winner a grant to help their business, but they will also receive year-long mentoring which we think is a money-can’t-buy addition to the prize.
