Lunchtime buy: Topshop belted shorts

Shorts are back this spring and in many cases, the shorter the better. We’re a fan of the tailored variety here at My Fashion Life and this high-waisted pair from Topshop are an inexpensive way of combining trends for a comfortable seasonal look. The casual cargo style has been smartened up with a contrasting bow belt and the paper bag waist going into box pleats adds to the more formal aesthetic. That being said, these would look just as good with a t-shirt and flats as they would a boyfriend blazer and platforms. Invest in a pair of versatile summer shorts, like this pair: £32/$65 from Topshop.

TOMS and Topshop Event

What’s better than buying a new pair of shoes? Not a lot I hear you whisper. I’ll tell you what – buying a new pair of shoes and knowing you’re helping someone less fortunate at the same time. This is why we love TOMS, founded by chief shoe giver Blake Mycoskie, TOMS give a new pair of shoes to a child in need with every pair purchased. The super-cool plimsolls take their inspiration from an espadrille type shoe that Blake saw locals and farmers wearing during a trip to Argentina in 2006. It was here that he decided to start a company in order to give to those in need, and now the shoes are manufactured in hundreds of styles and fabrics and sold worldwide. As part of their LFW in-store schedule last week,

Arcadia SS10 press day: Topshop

As one of the UK’s biggest retailers, the Arcadia spring 2010 press day was bound to be a busy affair. Victoria House was packed with fashion insiders including Susie Lau of Style Bubble and the Arcadia man himself, Sir Philip Green, all sneaking a peek at the latest offerings from Topshop, Miss Selfridge, Dorothy Perkins, Wallis, Evans, Topman and Burton. We popped down for a preview and a couple of tiny bowls of sausage and mash. Delish. Topshop: While the other Arcadia stores had to share floorspace, Topshop – undoubtedly the shining star of the business – was given a more exclusive feel, with a much larger, separate room for their spring 2010 collections. Topshop shone in the accessories department and we were particularly drawn to some romantic, suede and lace ankle booties, which are perfect for tricky transeasonal dressing. Neutral was key for Topshop, adding detail with buckles, tassels and in one worrying case, espadrille wedges. They’ve also done a pretty good version of the Ray Ban Clubmaster… Topshop have gone down the predictable route of distressed denim once again – but, they do execute well. This season sees rolled-up, lightwashed jeans teamed with striped crops as well as loose denim jackets having been given the late eighties, early nineties ‘cool’ with their badged effect. With denim being a popular fabric choice of spring 2008, Topshop have sensed the need to update current trends in this time of financial difficulty. Spring 2010 at Topshop is definitely more of a casual affair. Cutesy ladybird prints and florals appeared briefly in tailored shorts and t-shirts, as did comfy, jersey basics in that straight-out-of-Fame look. The stand out pieces however, were the more elegant items in neutral lace and unusual, digital print. That said we love the laid-back layering of jersey and […]

First look: Kate Moss for Topshop Christmas collection

Getting in the festive spirit when we’re still in October poses a few problems for us, but we’ve seen something that might just help us: Kate Moss for Topshop Christmas collection. And it launches tomorrow. Her previous Christmas collections have left us a little unsure, but this one has definitely got our attention. The collection offers an assortment of luxurious oriental-inspired pieces for day and evening wear that have been designed to make you feel fabulously festive… and a little exotic. Influenced by traditional Chinese and Japanese clothing, the collection fuses the old with the new as silk dresses take on an A/W09 update with gunmetal lurex knitwork and chiffon blouses promise prints of bamboo, lotus flowers and fireworks to reflect the richness of the orient. Basic knitwear is given a glamorous edge with lurex striped shrugs and sequinned knit waistcoats, and Kate brings her laid-back rock ‘n’ roll glamour to key pieces including a sequinned bandeau maxi dress, a strapless mini embellished with black mesh petals and gold beads, an ostrich feather-sleeved shift dress and a one-shouldered long-sleeved oriental sequinned dress – our favourite piece. It all sounds so sumptuous, doesn’t it? But the Christmas collection plays it cool, too, following on from last season with sharp tailoring in the form of pencil skirts and Victoriana jackets. What’s exciting this time, though, is not only the return of Kate’s vintage-inspired silk and chiffon lingerie, which will preview exclusively online but the debut of her luxury nightwear. We’re eyeing up the floral silk pyjamas that come in a matching drawstring bag, perfect Christmas present, anyone? “I love beautiful nightwear, it makes you feel great, said Kate, who recently starred in James Brown’s documentary. I’ve collected millions of vintage slips, nighties, camis and bed jackets. Who doesn’t want fab nightwear for […]

UFO dress by Topshop Unique

Steep vs Cheap: Ray-Ban or Topshop?

Seen year after year on our favourite celebs, already this season they have been spotted on the faces of Alexa Chung, Lindsey Lohan and Chloe Sevigny. The brand that made them famous of course is Ray Ban and the above are fabulous.

Elbows at the ready: Christopher Kane for Topshop

We have been hearing a few excited whisperings on the grapevine about Christopher Kane’s latest range for Topshop. It’s not going to be launched until August yet it already has fashionistas in a bit of a frenzy. Kane has produced a line for Topshop before back in 2007 but apparently his 2009 offering is the best yet. Talking about the range he told Grazia: “This is more than a capsule collection. It’s proper: with bags, shoes, knitwear and dresses. It’s nothing like any other work I’ve done in the past. Everything is a bit “wow”. But If I tell you any more, I’ll be giving the theme away. He then went onto say that embellishment would be involved, that it will be colourful and full of surprises. Oh we do love surprises! According to the man himself “Girls are gonna go crazy for it!. He’s certainly hyping it up so it must be good. We are so excited it’s unbelievable. Watch this space Christopher Kane lovers this may well be the collaboration of the year. Oh and don’t forget

Topshop grand opening: A slice of heaven in NY!

Even amidst the economic downturn the hype around the first New York City Topshop has been enormous , and that’s almost an understatement. Blogs have been tracing every step of the highly-anticipated opening and given that the Soho mega-store was slated to open back in Fall 2008, there have been many. In addition to a number of preview events and parties taking place these last few days, a Topshop Heartschallenger Van has been roaming around the city handing out free goody bags containing Topshop certificates with values reaching as high as $500. It’s little surprise that the van has attracted mobs of people, with Topshop fans closely following its every move via a GPS tracker set-up by the retailer. Given all of this hype , and the fact that Kate Moss’ 9th Topshop collection was going to be launched in tandem with the opening — I made my way down to the Soho location (478 Broadway near Broome Street), at around 9:30am this morning. With the Kate Moss ribbon cutting ceremony not taking place till 11am, I figured that’d give me plenty of time to get my hands on some covetable goods. Little did I know that people had been lining-up since 6am.

First look: Topshop New York

Topshop’s first home stateside is due to open on Thursday 2nd April, and here’s the first look of the new store. It does look fabulous, and as always is visual merchandised to perfection. Sir Philip Green is obviously happy exclaiming: “This is genuinely the best store we have ever built. And we’re inclined to agree. It is over the top loveliness, and has some of the most unusual mannequins ever seen. There is of course going to be a lot of buzz surrounding the grand opening. Fashionistas can expect exclusive parties and dinners, we’re still waiting on our tickets, I’m sure they’ll arrive tomorrow, probably lost in the post.

Topshop gets the Biba treatment

Topshop and Biba have been compared over and over again. Both huge successes, both aimed at young women, synonymous with British fashion and both broke/break the mould of high street fashion. It therefore seems only fitting that Biba founder/designer Barbara Hulanicki should collaborate with the high street brand. We can now reveal the first pictures of the new collection, and if they are anything to go by, this is one collection worthy of another stiletto stampede. With a good girl/bad girl theme we can expect girly shades and fabrics but with an edge of toughness. So expect to be pulling out your gladiator platforms and shrunken leather jackets again. This isn’t the first time our favourite high street chain have collaborated with a 60s design legend. Topshop hooked up with Ossie Clarke’s ex wife and designer Celia Birtwell who created numerous pieces in her signature prints. Hulanicki is also no stranger to collaborations with a great homeware line at Habitat and wallpaper at Graham & Brown. We are expecting great things from this collaboration, after all both know how to create design success. And in full support Barbara Hulanicki was spotted at the Topshop Unique show, on the comparison drawn between her brand and Topshop she replied: “Oh no, Topshop is much wilder. Has she forgotten those leopard print catsuits she designed? It doesn’t come much wilder than that. We mentioned that the line would be exclusive to Topshop and would be launched in the New York store. Hopefully it’s an international/nationwide line but we will just have to wait and see. So start training now ladies, if you want your piece of Barbara Hulanicki you’re going to have to be quick. [Images, Source]

Kate Moss gets womanly for Topshop

If you haven’t heard, Topshop is opening in New York on 2nd April. Sir Philip Green and his team have been running around New York Fashion Week, getting the word out and scouting for talent. He did also have time to mention to WWD that more stores are planned, with up to fifteen to be set up across America, with Miami and Boston being tipped as top Topshop destinations. For the New York store there will be an exclusive line designed by Biba founder Barbara Hulanicki as well as numerous other collections. But although this is all very exciting, it’s the Kate Moss collection we’re really interested in. You may have seen the tabloid claims that Kate is pregnant, but in a fabulous shoot and interview with New York Magazine, she explains all and puts those rumours to rest. The interview takes place with Kate and Sir Philip, and it’s filled with light hearted banter, who knew either of them were so jovial?! Talking about the move to New York: Sir Philip: We’ve taken a decision of saying we’re going to change nothing for New York. I think with the climate what it is … Kate: People want a dress which is not a thousand bucks! With Topshop, you can go in and … you’re on budget, major … you can go in and not have to spend fortunes. I didn’t want to be charging $3,000. The thing is … I know clothes. I just want a dress that fits and makes me feel good and makes me feel pretty. I don’t really think about the masses. But what’s very exciting is the prospect of a new lingerie range: Kate: I’ve got a clear idea of what I want for lingerie. I’ve just started wearing bras. It’s a miracle. Not […]
