Chic Shoegasms: Gucci suede and patent open-toe booties

Autumn is coming fast upon us, so it’s time to start thinking about one of my favourite subjects: boots. The shoe-boot is, of course, the ultimate turn-to shoe as the colder months draw in, and a peep-toe will make the transition from sandal to boot a little easier. Gucci’s suede and patent open-toe booties are, therefore, a key contender for first place on my AW11 shoe wish-list. What I adore about these shoe-boots is their effortless texture mash-up. Black suede works as the key material for these shoes, while a tonal patent heel and ankle support sings against its leather cousin. Together, their juxtaposition makes for one effortlessly luxe booty (as does the in-built platform and zip closure – I love a stylish zip closure). At £539, these would have to be seen as a real investment, but you can rest assured that a pair of classic shoe-boots like this would work as your turn-to shoe autumn after autumn. Gucci’s Suede and Patent Open-Toe Booties, £539, available at MyTheresa.

Karen Elson matches her hair with her dress in Gucci

Last Wednesday, musician and model, Karen Elson, attended the Tonight we Tanqueray event in New York City wearing a fiery flame-filled Gucci chiffon long sleeve scarf detail dress, complete with silk crepe de chine coulotte finishings. The dress itself was taken from the label’s WRTW Fall/Winter 2011-2012 collection, and although it looked stunning upon Karen’s slender frame, we’re not quite sure her matching barnet does the overall look justice – it’s just to much tango for our liking. But that’s not to say she didn’t look absolutely stunning on the night, oh no, there’s just too much of an orange overload going on for us to take it all in. A bit hit and miss here Karen. But what do you think of her outfit? [poll id=”173″]

Florence Welch rocks the crowd in her first Gucci tour gown

So here it is, the first of many Gucci gowns for Florence Welch now that the luxury label’s officially creating her wardrobe for her North American tour. And we dare say Frida Giannini captured Florence’s “eccentric style and willingness to dare” rather brilliantly for her first performance on Monday at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. Florence wore a stunning custom gown from Gucci’s autumn/winter 2011 collection, crafted from yellow silk chiffon which looked fabulously floaty on stage, complete with a matching mimosa chiffon cape and ottanio flower organza shrug. Despite its greenish tint from the blue lights, the dress contrasts perfectly against Florence’s flame mane, and the bold blue embroidered shrug only emphasises her eclectic style. With 16 cities still left to rock, we can’t wait to see the other designs. [poll id=”138″] Image courtesy of Gucci/Getty Images

Gucci teams up with Fiat to relaunch the special edition 500byGucci

If Citroen and Chanel are to your France what the Mini and Mulberry are to your Britain, then consider Fiat and Gucci your Italy, because iconic Italian companies have joined forces to create the Fiat 500byGucci.   To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Italy's unification and Gucci's 90th birthday, cult car company Fiat has teamed up with luxury label Gucci to redesign its classic 500 car model with Frida Giannini at the helm.   And in a world where collaborations crop up all too often, this partnership actually makes perfect sense.   Gucci's creative director has worked alongside Fiat's Centro Stile on what is, quite frankly, the coolest collaboration of the year in launching the special edition car, which comes with custom Gucci aesthetics for the ultimate in luxury mechanics.   Available in either white or black – we'll take the latter, please – the all-new design features the signature red and green stripe running on the exterior and inside on seats and belts, a bi-colour steering wheel and two-tone leather seats boasting Gucci's trademark Guccissima print.   Look outside, and you'll find interlocking GG's on the alloys and the Gucci signature on the rear and side doors.  And if you want to get technical, the 500byGucci's available with in two engines – the economical 1.2 litre (£14,565) and the award-winning 0.9 litre TwinAir (£15,765).   But hey, don't hold it against us if all we're bothered about is how hot it looks.  With careful finishing touches that correspond inside and out, this car feels like the sleekest, sweetest ride around – we're already picturing a cruise around Campania in the Southern Italy sun whilst wasting the hours sampling the best pizza and gelato in the province.   Oh, come on, we can dream.   The Fiat 500byGucci is […]

Anne Hathaway’s Gucci geek-over

Super celeb stylist Rachel Zoe has had the honour of dressing some of the most famous names in showbiz – Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan and Mischa Barton are all graduates from her styling school – but not all fair so well on their own without her holy guidance (the less said about Mischa Barton’s dress sense these days the better), and it seems Anne Hathaway isn’t ready to fly from the nest just yet. Ordinarily a ravishing red carpet darling – remember the eight outfit changes at the Oscars this year? (Zoe’s work) – we were truly disappointed to see her in an purple tasselled Gucci dress paired with big geeky frames better suited to Shoreditch than an LA premiere. We’re not crazy about the shoes, either, but our biggest complaint has got to be the brassy highlights and the lazy ponytail. Hit the bottle, please Anne… (that’s the dye bottle, guys). What do you think of Anne’s look: geek chic or a totally weak? [poll id=”81″]

Spotted: Angelina Jolie wearing Gucci’s 1973 bag

Whilst attending a press event in Paris last week for her latest film, The Tourist, Angelina Jolie was spotted wearing a coveted 1973 Gucci handbag on her arrival. And the bag’s gathered somewhat of a high status celebrity following recently, let us tell you, with the likes of Madonna, Jennifer Lopez and Penelope Cruz all carrying this latest piece of arm candy. Frida Giannini, the luxury label’s creative director, took a look back into the brand’s 1973 fashion archive to source a little sartorial inspiration for this new and exclusive collection of handbags – after all, everyone loves a revamped classic. But though this black leather top handle tote is undeniably feminine (well, it’s big enough for all our womanly essentials), it doesn’t really scream out to us. We love its minimalist design, and it may be extremely well-crafted to last you a lifetime, but if we were going to splash some serious cash on a Gucci garment – or otherwise – we’d want the whole world to know about it. After all, a bit of fashion flashing doesn’t go a-miss…

Gemma Arterton in Gucci

For the premiere of Tamara Drewe in Leicester Square on Monday night, we had visions of leading lady Gemma Arterton choosing her usual uniform of red lipstick, dark eyeliner and over the top glam, but we certainly weren’t expecting her choice to turn to this season’s minimalist trend for her moment in the spotlight. Wearing a white jersey front knot gown from Gucci’s 2011 collection, Gemma looked ravishing (despite the London drizzle) as she trod the red carpet all fresh-faced with barely a scrap of make up. And accessorising only with a simple straw clutch and diamond earrings, the actress showed that this season, less really is more. What do you think of her look?

Dominic Cooper in Gucci

Dominic Cooper is quite the man-about-town at the moment – or should we say, the man-about-Cannes, as he’s been snapped living the high life in the French Riviera as he promotes his new film Tamara Drew. With the new film receiving rave reviews at the film festival it’s not only is his career that’s looking good, but so is his wardrobe, as Dominic is captured at this photo call in a very laid-back yet stylish Gucci ensemble. Dominic hasn’t quite got that aloof film star persona going on just yet, and he looks like you could go for a drink with him and still have a laugh – plus he lives with best mate James Cordon which we’re sure is a combination that guarantees a good time. Wearing an indigo plain silk v neck from the Gucci men’s SS10 RTW line, teamed with a white cotton v neck tee Dominic pulls off a really relaxed and classic look. The colour is a great choice against his Cannes-tan and Dominic looks like he’s well on the road to achieving that off-duty movie star look. As he’s looking this good, maybe we should try and go for a drink with him while we can before he starts jetting off to spend time with the film elite on a more permanent basis… Dom, give us a call.

Why 2022 is the Perfect Year to start creating Your Own Clothes

If you’ve always wondered what it would be like to create your own clothes, maybe this is the year you should finally do so. Why? Because in 2022, anything goes. You can choose to go with bright colours, or stick to white. You can go for a mini skirt or be fully covered up, from neck to toe. You can even go back in time to your favourite era, from a 50s revival by wearing foulards like Audrey Hepburn wore, to a 60s go-go look or even 90s colourful clothes. Let’s examine this year’s fashion more closely. Creating Your Own Style Those who like to design things, such as clothes, usually have a tendency to be creative in unique ways. The best of them will end-up with their own fashion line, when it comes to clothes. And although you may not dream of becoming the next Dior or Gucci, you may still find yourself quite popular with friends around you, asking you to create some pieces of clothes for them as well. If that is so, make sure to insert a woven or printed label inside them, so that if someone you don’t know likes them as well, they can go online and look for you. Of course, you will need to be present on the internet, in one form or another. But then again, opening a Facebook page for your brand, will take you all but five minutes… It may also be a great idea to add a laundry label, so that those you sell your clothes to, treat them the right way. You can find both labels at https://wunderlabel.com/. From Lockdown to Freedom There is no better way to understand today’s fashion than to look at the recent past of humankind. If there are so many different styles offered […]
