Carine Roitfeld reveals “red” theme for this year’s amfAR Cinema Against AIDS fashion show

For the third year in a row, former Vogue Paris editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld will be hosting a fashion show for the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala in Cannes. And just like the two fashion shows before it, this year’s has a very distinctive theme… Carine’s first fashion show had a “black” theme, while last year’s, which was dedicated to Elizabeth Taylor, was all about gold. This year however, Carine is paying tribute to Marilyn Monroe, and has chosen the colour “red” as the theme for the fashion show. Expect to see gowns from the likes of Alexander McQueen, Alexander Wang, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Roberto Cavalli, Chanel, Christian Dior, Christopher Kane, Fendi, Giorgio Armani, Givenchy, Gucci and Tom Ford on the catwalk, all of which will be auctioned off to raise money for the wonderful and worthwhile cause. The Met Gala 2014: The best dressed!

All the big names in fashion, film, and music gathered at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City last night, for the highly anticipated Met Gala! This year, the museum was honouring Charles James, and the dress-code was a very simple (albeit slightly “boring” according to Marc Jacobs) “white tie and decorations”. Anyone familiar with the work of Charles James would know that elegant eveningwear was his thing, so they wouldn’t have gone wrong by donning the finest couture pieces with some elegant jewels. There were many ladies who absolutely nailed their looks, while some probably should have stayed home. Stella McCartney had a big moment on the red carpet, dressing the likes of Rihanna and Reese Witherspoon so flawlesslessly for the event, in two very different but equally stunning dresses. Rihanna went for her signature sexy look, while Reese was a vintage glamour goddess. Selena Gomez also wowed on the red carpet for us, looking very mature for just 21 years old in a bold deep purple Diane von Furstenberg dress. We also love how Gossip Girl stars Blake Lively and Leighton Meester were reunited at the Met Gala – they both looked amazing in their respective Gucci Premiere and Emilio Pucci dresses. Not all of the ladies went for full-length or ballgown dresses (like Hayden Panettiere who looked like a Princess!) though – Solange Knowles and Lena Dunham were just two of the stars who went for something a little bit shorter. Two top songstresses. One dress. Yes, you know the drill. This week, in a rather colourful Fausto Puglisi ensemble, Katy Perry and singer Brandy are battling it out in the fashion stakes. Wearing a colourblock skirt and bell-sleeved top; the ladies cinched in their waists with a black waistband, creating the perfect hourglass silhouette. Slipping into this super-bright combo first was Katy Perry, who attended the pre-Grammy brunch way back in 2o12 in said look. Sporting a wacky blue bob and Charlotte Olympia piano heels; Katy went for a smattering of hand accessories to dress up her look. Heavily done-up eyes and a pop of pink lip colour rounded of the look nicely. But, catching up with the Unconditional singer was also another singer, Brandy, who wore the same outfit to the Haunted House 2 premiere, a few weeks ago. Opting for leopard print Gucci heels and a Solange Knowles-inspired, tightly curled hairdo; Brandy rounded off her look with super simple make up and a winning smile. WATCH Miranda Kerr’s debut H&M video!

We told you back in February that Miranda Kerr was announced as the brand spanking new face of H&M (she clearly didn’t let being let go from Mango get her down for too long!) and now it’s time to check out her first ever video ad campaign. And we think it’s pretty amazing! We think that most women will identify with the storyline, which in a nutshell goes like this: Set to the tune of Blondie’s epic Heart of Glass, Miranda’s friend pulls up outside her house in a taxi, but Miranda isn’t quite ready yet. Cue a very stylish montage consisting of Miranda trying on one cute outfit after another – and taking selfies, natch! – before eventually deciding on a pair of black leather shorts and a pale off-the-shoulder top. WATCH: The 86th Academy Awards (Oscars 2014): The best dressed!

The wait is finally over – the biggest red carpet day in Hollywood has officially arrived, and if you’ve been following us on Twitter, you’ll probably already know that we’ve been pretty excited about it! Popcorn, coffee, tablets (the technological kind), laptops and phones were on standby throughout the night to make sure we didn’t miss a single second of the 86th Academy Awards! We were waiting for 12 Years a Slave actress Lupita Nyong’o’s arrival with baited breath, and think she definitely saved the best dress for last. She stepped onto the red carpet in a custom-made Prada dress that came in a stunning duck egg blue colour, complete with the hottest accessory of the night: a sparkling head band! Cate Blanchett – another one of our red carpet faves – didn’t let us down with her sartorial choice either, looking sensational in a Giorgio Armani dress that she owned from the second she stepped out of her car. Charlize Theron wowed the crowd in a black Dior gown (it pains us to say it, but we think her Dior dress trumped Jennifer Lawrence’s one – we still love you though, J-Law!), as did Kate Hudson and Jessica Biel in their respective and sensational Atelier Versace and Chanel Couture dresses. And it goes without saying, but Angelina Jolie stole the show in her bedazzling Elie Saab Couture dress and more or less put everyone else in the shade when she and Brad Pitt arrived just in the nick of time. Nia Long makes us green with envy on the NAACP Awards red carpet

We’ve been suckers for different shades of green and blue for as long as we can remember. Lupita Nyong’o made us fall in love with the bold colour all over again when she stepped out in a stunning Gucci dress at the Screen Actors Guild Awards last month, and we’re thrilled that French Prince actress Nia Long has also got behind the colour too. The Fresh Prince actress rocked the 45th NAACP Awards red carpet in a floor-length plunging halter neck dress that came in an attention-grabbing green shade, no doubt turning heads as she strutted her stuff. And considering other stunners such as Bond girl Naomie Harris and Lupita Nyong’o were also in attendance, that’s a very bold statement indeed! And it wasn’t just the dress we had our eyes on; we had bling envy too thanks to the Danielle Queller art deco hexagon green earrings she matched so expertly with her dress. We are green with envy!

Jessica Chastain vs. Lupita Nyong’o…Who rocked the statement neck better?

Awards season has delivered many sartorial delights, so far. And two such delights dividing opinion at HQ are Lupita Nyong’o and Jessica Chastain’s looks from the SAG Awards and Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, respectively, Both ladies stuck to the blue-green colour spectrum, with Jessica in a teal green Nina Ricci pre-fall 2014 gown, and Lupita sporting a stunning turquoise Gucci number that sent the fashion critics into overdrive! The styles of the gowns were similar – showcasing stunning neck detail, with a silhouette-skimming cut – which ultimately makes the task of choosing this week’s style champion even tougher. Jessica paired her gown with a side-parted up-do, bright lips and went accessory-free, while Lupita followed suit with bright make-up, small earrings and an evening-perfect cocktail ring. But, the unmissable detail on both these gown is the striking neckline adornment, which certainly cancels out the need for show-stopping necklaces. Although we lusted over both looks as they appeared on the red carpet, there can only be one sure winner…and this week, we’re crowning Lupita victorious! Not only was her Gucci gown the talk of the town at the Awards, but that embellished neck detail stole our hearts at hello, beating Jessica’s dreamy Nina Ricci effort by several style miles! The Golden Globes 2014: The best dressed!

Golden Globes time! Yep, it was the 71st annual Golden Globe Award ceremony in Beverly Hills yesterday, and the red carpet was once again full of the biggest and best-dressed names in Hollywood. TV and films stars alike came together for one of the biggest nights on the awards season calendar, and to say they pulled out all the sartorial stops would be a bit of an understatement, as we don’t think our list of best-dressed celebs has ever been this big! Lupita Nyong’o definitely stole the show for us with her effortlessly elegant Ralph Lauren caped look (we got flashbacks to Gwyneth Paltrow’s Tom Ford cape dress at the Oscars a few years ago) while Olivia Wilde and Camila Alves also made our jaws drop with their glittering gowns courtesy of Gucci Première and Dolce and Gabbana respectively. We can’t blink without hearing about the on and off catwalk antics of Cara Delevingne and her model pals, so it’s safe to say that models are making a huge comeback. In fact they might just be bigger and more important than ever – and Elle US’s January issue is all about reiterating that point. Joan Smalls, one of our favourite young models of the moment, has finally landed her first Elle cover, and is looking fierce in a sequin Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci dress. Only a professional poser can pull off a look like that! As her highly successful show The Face has just started on Sky Living, we’ve found ourselves even more obsessed with Naomi Campbell than ever. And luckily for us and our aforementioned escalated Naomi fever, she is gracing The Edit’s latest issue in a skin-tight, sexy Michael Kors dress, complete with Karl Lagerfeld gloves. Naomi proves why she has remained in the modelling biz for so long by striking some unbeatable, unflawed poses in a number of stunning outfits from Oscar de la Renta, Maison Martin Margiela, Gucci, Haider Ackermann, Altuzarra and more. She also opens up about a number of subjects, one of which was obviously the UK version of The Face… “We’re filming the show in my home country, so I want it to be better than amazing,” she told the magazine. “I want people to really understand what the world of modelling is about, and how hard we work. “I like the mentoring aspect, as opposed to sitting in my chair and judging someone. It’s really rewarding to see the models transformed and it makes me feel like I’m doing something right. When we were invited to The May Fair Hotel for a tête-à-tête with former Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Paris, Carine Roitfeld, ahead of the release of her feature film, Mademoiselle C, a collective gasp was heard at HQ. The fashion documentary follows Roitfeld during the creation of her new magazine, CR Fashion Book. The idea of sharing the same breathing space as Karl Lagerfeld’s best friend and Tom Ford’s muse was dizzying, and we simply couldn’t swallow the sheer overload of Parisian polish we were about to be exposed to. Making our way to the ninth floor (after battling with a stubborn, A-lister proof lift) we finally entered the airy space, where the impeccably dressed name behind CR Fashion Book was waiting for us, a smile beaming across her face, her dainty silhouette wrapped in an extraordinary grey coat. Is it really Teen Choice Awards time already? Time really does fly as it seems like only yesterday we were gushing about the sartorial choices of the stars of Young Hollywood. It’s already a busy week for the red carpet! Monday night saw the prestigious CFDA Awards take place in New York, and last night it was the turn of the Glamour Women of the Year Awards which were happening right here in London – at the Berkeley Square Gardens, to be exact. As we told you earlier, Victoria Beckham walked away with the ‘Woman of the Decade’ prize, but the best thing about her appearance (apart rom the fact that she took her very dapper looking son Brooklyn as her date) was her outfit. Sure, it was black which is big favourite with Posh, but it wasn’t one of her own designs – it was in fact Maison Martin Margiela which came as a pleasant surprise. Frankie Sandford from The Saturdays debuted her new longer hairstyle (and also showed us how her baby bump is progressing) on the red carpet, while new yummy mummy Fearne Cotton showcased her post-baby figure in a bright blue dress. Also brightening things up on the red carpet were Myleene Klass and Les Mis star Samantha Barks, who both wore bright fuchsia dresses, while Jessie J also went for an interesting, eye-popping blue ensemble. Cannes Film Festival 2013: Day 2 highlights

Day 2 of the Cannes Film Festival was pretty much just as glamorous as the first! Sonam Kapoor definitely went by the “go big or go home” mantra for the Jeune & Jolie premiere, as she stole the show in a larger than life Dolce and Gabbana dress. Her flawless, brunette, sleek and shiny side-swept locks complemented the dress perfectly, as did her gorgeous necklace and subtle make-up. Simply divine. Emma Watson is on fire, today. As well as looking like a vintage 1940s goddess on the cover of W magazine’s June issue, she also blew us away as she worked the red carpet in a jaw-droppingly stunning monochrome floor-length Chanel Couture dress. And we have a feeling you’re going to be seeing a lot of Freida Pinto on our best-dressed-at-Cannes pages over the next couple of weeks; the actress wowed the crowd in a hot pink Gucci number on Day 1, and she looked just as beautiful on the second day in a bedazzling Sanchita dress with a sexy thigh high split.

Let’s put it this way – everyone on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet looked ruddy fantastic! Instead of inundating you with every single look from the glamorous carpet, we’ll be bringing you our ultimate favourite looks from each day. Day 1 obviously attracted quite the well-dressed bunch of celebs, so we had a bit of a tough time narrowing down our faves. Freida Pinto definitely secures one of our best-dressed spots, as she oozed class and glamour in a floor-length, hot pink number designed by Gucci. An elegant red carpet appearance if ever there was one! Nicole Kidman also gets a mention in her three-quarter length Christian Dior Couture number as she was one of the brightest stars on the red carpet. Way to make a statement and embrace the season! Also wearing Christian Dior Couture was Carey Mulligan, and she definitely deserves a place on our list because we reckon this is the first time she has truly wowed on the red carpet while promoting The Great Gatsby. She always looks good don’t get us wrong, but we think this is a jaw-dropping, defining style moment on her Great Gatsby promo mission. Simple, elegant, bold – and we love the longer locks! Lana Del Rey looked like a true vintage goddess in her monochrome embellished dress – she definitely paid close attention to the Gatsby-inspired glamour theme, and we can’t fault her old Hollywood curls and flawless make-up! The Met Gala 2013 – PUNK: Chaos to Couture red carpet roundup!

Forget the Oscars, the biggest, most fashionable night of the year is of course the Met Gala (or Met Ball, whichever you prefer) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, and this time round the theme was “Punk: Chaos to Couture”. This meant that there was an abundance of spikes, safety pins, short and fierce hair, and bags and bags of attitude… and the lucky A-listers who managed to secure an invitation to the prestigious event most definitely brought their sartorial A game on the red carpet. Celebs with short hair had a particularly easy ride as far as interpreting the punk theme was concerned as the likes of Karlie Kloss and Miley Cyrus really embraced it with their respective hairstyles. Sarah Jessica Parker didn’t let a little thing like long hair deter her from going all-out though, as she donned a fabulous Philip Treacy headpiece that was just as punk-rock as it was Carrie Bradshaw. We are giddy with excitement at the prospect of a Beyonce-covered British Vogue coming through our letter box – hurry up Mr Postman! Yep the one and only Mrs Carter has landed the British Vogue May cover, and is looking the picture of absolute perfection. We expected no less! As well as posing for some breathtaking pictures in array of top designer threads, Bey also opened up to the interviewer about her views on feminism… “That word can be very extreme,” she said. “But I guess I am a modern-day feminist. I do believe in equality. Why do you have to choose what type of woman you are? Why do you have to label yourself anything? As her songs so blunt, open and honest, we always look forward to Taylor Swift interviews because we know that’s exactly what we’re gonna get. The 23-year-old country singer has been chosen as InStyle UK’s April cover star, and can be seen posing in some soft and almost angelic pics in an array of top designer gear from the likes of Giles and Gucci to name but a few. Taylor opens up to the mag about a number of different subjects, including friends, censoring herself, writing songs, and her fears, among other things.. “My fears circle around me making the wrong choices and messing this up for myself,” she said. “I don’t wanna end up being awful and intolerable. The 85th Academy Awards (Oscars 2013): The best dressed!

It’s finally here! The biggest night in Hollywood (and the first date we earmark in our calendars and diaries every year without fail) is finally here! Ladies and gentlemen, the 85th Academy Awards, aka The Oscars, are happening right now and we couldn’t be more excited! We’ve been live tweeting all the red carpet arrivals for the past few hours – a big thank you to each and every one of you who joined the conversation and made it a memorable night – so now it’s time to sit back and reflect on some of our favourite looks of the night with the main ceremony taking place on our televisions in the background. Talk about multi-tasking! There were a few ladies in particular whose red carpet looks we were waiting with baited breath to see, and thankfully not a single one of them disappointed us with their sartorial decisions. Nominees Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway looked breathtaking in their respective Dior Haute Couture, Armani Prive and Prada dresses, each going for different but equally stunning looks. We heard on the grapevine that Anne Hathaway was due to wear Valentino but changed her mind a matter of hours before stepping onto the carpet. Although we think she looked incredible in her Prada dress, we can’t help but wonder what Valentino had in store for her! We think the “go big or go home” mantra applies to the Oscars more than any other award ceremony of the year, which is why we applaud the ladies who really take it seriously. Milan Fashion Week AW13 highlights from Just Cavalli, Fendi, Prada and Max Mara

Day 2 at Milan Fashion Week saw collections from Just Cavalli, Fendi, Prada and Max Mara hit the catwalks, once again proving that the Italians certainly don’t do things by halves. Just Cavalli was just the print-tastic, wild infusion we expect it to be, with Georgia May Jagger (the face of the new Just Cavalli fragrance, in case you forgot) closing the show in a stunning red and black piece. We love that voluminous hair she, and the rest of the models, sported. And speaking of stunning catwalk appearances, we were thrilled to see Adriana Lima walk the runway for the Prada show in a sleek and sexy black number – she just doesn’t stop wowing us! Will Gatsby gear be the film-fash inspiration of the year?

[noskim] Film releases and fashion trends go hand in hand. Last year, the Hunger Games – and Jennifer Lawrence – gave brown leather jackets and flat boots a boost when black biker jackets and heels ruled the roost. This year, we’re spending plenty of time pondering where our next film-fash inspo might be coming from. One fairly safe bet is Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, which is due for release in May. Baz loves a bit of bling in the costume department – remember Nicole Kidman in that sparkly corset and top hat combo in Moulin Rouge? So, when you take into account Luhrman’s love of the lavish coupled with the seriously stylish Ivy League leavers the film follows and throw into the mix the fact everything takes place at the start of the roaring twenties – you should get film-fash gold. Yes, we are already getting in a bit of a Gatsby flap. After convincing us we could pull off a crop, Carey Mulligan – as Daisy Buchanan – is now set to start a scarf revival. Luckily she’s teaming it with a sleek, blonde, bob – a style more than a handful of us already fancied for summer. Style yourself in Ms Daisy’s footsteps and choose classy kimonos and trousers, dresses embellished with lace and sequins, feathers and heavenly headwear. Of course, you don’t need to be as full-on as Ms Daisy. We like this Alice By Temperley lace number. It’s a little shorter than 20s styles but the embroidered décolletage and mesh sleeves make it classy and easy to wear and it’s not quite as in your-face bling as some of the sequin dresses in the movie, which might not be quite so wearable. The 55th Grammy Awards 2013: The best dressed!

Grammy time! The red carpet got rolled out on both sides of the pond yesterday; while the biggest acting stars in the world jetted into London for the BAFTAs, the singing sensations headed to sunnier climes (Los Angeles, to be exact) for the 55th annual Grammy Awards. We were looking forward to seeing what the girls ended up wearing, given the stricter dress code they had to work with this year. We expected a few of them to be rebellious and flash the flesh anyway (if you’ve got it, you may as well flaunt it) but they actually more or less behaved themselves… save for a few plunging necklines and J-Lo’s dangerously high slit dress. If you joined us last night for our live-tweeting you might remember that we got particularly excited by the arrival of pop Princess Rihanna, who stuck to the rules and went for a phenomenal red custom Azzedine Alaia gown, and music Queen Beyonce who defied expectations and went for a modern monochrome pant suit by LFW-fave Osman… and totally working it, may we add! Florence Welch creates jewellery collection

Florence Welch is always rocking something pretty enviable… whether it’s something quirky and avant garde while she’s out and about, or exclusively designed by Gucci while on stage (her tour wadrobe was famously designed by the Italian fashion House) you can bet your bottom dollar that she turns heads for all the right reasons. This is why we were pretty chuffed to discover that we could get some Flo style of our own, as the Florence and the Machine singer has just created her very own art-deco capsule jewellery collection. The pieces were reportedly inspired by the artwork from the band’s Ceremonials album, which we think is great as they’re instantly more personal! The Warner Brothers and InStyle Golden Globe Awards after-party: The best dressed!

There was so much action on the Golden Globes red carpet at the weekend that we didn’t even have time to get to the after-party outfits – shame o0n us! Luckily we’ve dedicated this afternoon to celebrating the stars who rocked up to the Warner Brothers and InStyle Golden Globe Awards after-party, and more importantly what they chose to wear for the occasion. The young Hollywood stars once again pulled out all the stops, with Disney princesses Ashley Tisdale, Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens going for very different but equally ravishing designer dresses. Ashley was demure, chic and understated in her stunning floor-length Issa gown, Vanessa upped the sparkle factor with her Jenny Packham dress, while Selena Gomez flashed the pins in an Atelier Versace creation. Just goes to show that there’s more than one way to interpret the after-party dress code successfully! Despite more fun and flirty dresses making an appearance, long gowns were still out in force, with Miranda Kerr looking like a sexy scarlet screen siren in her plunging Zuhair Murad dress, while Bond girl Berenice Marlohe floated along the red carpet in a Monique Lhuillier dress from the new aquatic inspired collection. PPR buys 51% stake in Christopher Kane

There have been rumours about the future of Christopher Kane floating around the blogosphere for quite some time now, but it’s now been officially confirmed that French luxury multinational company PPR has bought a majority stake (51%) in the Scottish designer’s brand. “We are very excited and honoured to be partnering with PPR for the next stage of development for our brand,” Christopher Kane said. “PPR has an incredible reputation for building some of the very best luxury brands in the world. They respect our creative vision and they have the expertise and experience to help us build the Christopher Kane brand globally.” The Christopher Kane brand now joins the likes of Alexander McQueen, Gucci and Stella McCartney, so it’s safe to say the brand in safe hands and in good company. Both PPR and Mr Kane seem to be pretty pleased with the new deal, so we’re quite excited to see how things will develop over the next few seasons. Watch this space! [Vogue]

“For me, darkness is something very beautiful,” Riccardo Tisci, GQ

GQ’s Designer of the Year is a pretty prestigious title, which is why it doesn’t go to just anyone. This year, the lucky and very worthy recipient is 38-year-old Riccardo Tisci, who boasts the complete reinvention of Givenchy on his CV among other impressive things. “When Tisci came to the label in 2005, there was almost no menswear line to speak of,” the article reads. “Today the segment accounts for about 30 percent of its business, and “boring” is not a word that comes to mind. “Tisci almost instantly brought to Givenchy what Tom Ford once brought to Gucci and Hedi Slimane to Dior: a money-minting black box of creative energy and social capital that’s as enigmatic as it is lucrative, and built in part on his personal reputation.” The article is a must-read, as it shines some light into the world of Riccardo Tisci with some great observations from the author and some wonderful quotes from the main man himself.
