Reasons Sunglasses Are More Than Just A Fashion Accessory

Last Updated on 28th October 2020 Sunglasses are the ultimate fashion accessory, almost everyone wears them on a daily basis, and most wouldn’t leave home without them. When the sun is glaring off the city building and you pick your shades out of your back, you immediately change your look once you put them on.  Sunglasses have always been linked to rebellion, uniqueness, and character. But they are more than just a fashion accessory that makes you look cool.  Supreme Fashion Accessory Sunglasses are widely recognised as the ultimate fashion accessory. No outfit is complete without a stylish pair of aviators or wayfarers. If you are looking to invest in polarized wayfarer style sunglasses, you’ll find a variety of styles and designs online.  Sunglasses have been made cool over the years by fashion icons, fighter pilots, and more. The main reason aviators are looked on as being so trendy and cool is because of their history. They were made to protect the eyes of pilots, hence the name. Aviators were glamorized and considered cool because of their relation to World War I pilots. Those pilots were seen as daring risk-takers who wore cool aviator shades. Who wouldn’t want to be like them?  Sunglasses enhance your look, and the make people seem more attractive. Some outfits are just incomplete without a stylish pair of shades. Can you imagine Tom Cruise without the glasses in Top Gun or the Blues Brothers walking around in just the suits?  Protect Against Skin Cancer We all know why sunglasses are the ultimate fashion accessory, but they are more than just that. There are many good reasons to buy good quality sunglasses and protection against the sun is one of them. If you leave your skin overexposed to the sun, you can develop skin cancer.  Along […]

3 Tips for Looking Great in Glasses

Last Updated on 3rd February 2021 We tend to associate glasses with looking awkward, not amazing. This is because so many parents buy cheap, clunky frames for their teenagers instead of something that looks good. This leaves them eager to dump glasses in favor of contact lenses, regardless of the cost or hassle involved. Fortunately, you have far more choices when it comes to style, and you can find lenses and frames that complement your face. Here are 3 tips for looking great in glasses. Choose Stylish Eyewear If you want to look great in glasses, you’ll want to choose stylish corrective eyewear that fits your face. Don’t buy frames that are too wide for your face. The glasses shouldn’t slide down your nose or pinch your temples. The next factor to consider is the shape of your face. If you have an oval face, then rectangle, square, wayfarer and cat eye frames are suitable. If you have a round face, then rectangle, wayfarer and square frames are fine. If your face is rather square, rounded glasses are a good choice. Wear oval, round or wayfarer eyeglasses, and stay away from rectangle and square lenses. If you have a heart-shaped face, cat eye, wayfarer and rectangle frames are all suitable options. The third factor to consider when choosing womens eyeglass frames is the frame color. In general, you want a frame color that complements your skin color. Avoid bright colors if you have fair skin. Neutral colors like brown, black and tortoiseshell are best in this case. You can add frame details like gold or silver accents.  If you have a medium skin tone, solid colors are a viable option. You could wear blue or green frames. If you have darker skin, lighter colors are advisable so that the frame […]

Tracking Down The Perfect Set Of Eyeglasses For You

Last Updated on 5th January 2020 The majority of people wear glasses. For example, in America, 64% of the population does. If you are one of them, you will know how hard it can be to track down a pair that you feel 100% comfortable wearing. It’s not that there is not enough choice. Far from it, as you can see from this eyeglasses website, there are hundreds of different frame and lens options. As a result, it can take you ages to narrow things down, so you can buy your perfect pair of glasses. Fortunately, there are ways to quickly work through the different options. Start with your face type Identifying your face type is the first part of the process. You can quickly learn how to do that from YouTube. Most online eyeglass retailers provide guidance on this matter too.  They also provide advice about which frame shapes suit which face types. It will only take you ten minutes or so to read through their guides. Once you have you will not waste time looking at frames that are highly unlikely to look good on you. Tap into your past experience with glasses Eyewear fashions change on a regular basis. But, as we all know fashion is cyclical. So, it is well worth looking back at some old photos and seeing which of the glasses you have worn in the past looked good on you.  Frame size considerations Once you know what shape of frame you need, it is time to choose the size. For this, it is best to let the width of your face guide you. This sounds obvious, but next time you are out and about, look around. You will see people wearing frames that are too wide or narrow for them.  If you need […]

Finding The Right Glasses For Your Face

Last Updated on 18th October 2016 Shopping for clothes is tough, shopping for glasses is tougher. This is because our faces are the most unique parts of us. Think about how many other people you know who are the same height or body type as you, or have the same foot size. We choose the length of leg or width of waist when buying jeans, and shoes come in helpful sizes and even half sizes. So why then is it so much harder with glasses and sunglasses? Why are there no sizes or precise criteria for us to follow? And it’s worse, because glasses can either work with our features or against them in a way clothes usually don’t. And the stakes are even higher with glasses — especially if you wear them every day. Well this guide looks to demystify glasses and how to choose the right pair for your face shape and size. It’s been written with the help and insight of Red Hot Sunglasses, who are experts in all things glasses and sunglasses. Face size First of all, it’s important to work out whether or not you have a large face or a small face. This can be trickier than it sounds as it can be arbitrary as to what constitutes a small or large face, and especially hard if you think you might actually be somewhere in the middle. Small face If you don’t know if you have a small face, compare yourself to these celebrities: Women: Kristen Stewart, Sarah Hyland, Reece Witherspoon Men: Colin Farrell, Jude Law, Leonardo DiCaprio If your face is small and you’re a woman, then the best advice is to opt for large or oversized glasses and sunglasses as the big, chunkier frames will actually emphasise your more feminine, softer features. Eyeglasses or Laser Eye Surgery: What’s The Best Option?

Last Updated on 21st June 2016 There’s no denying that maintaining good eyesight is of utmost importance. And it’s essential that we’re aware of what exactly can do damage to our eyesight – whether it’s too much exposure to light or dust, which can affect the eyes internally. Unfortunately, there are people who often go through many eye problems. The common three being Myopia (Short Sight), Hyperopia (long-sight) and Astigmatism (cornea) which either require individuals to wear glasses or undergo eye surgery. Which is best? Eyeglasses or Laser Eye Surgery?  The most common option are glasses due to the cost – they’re far cheaper than undergoing surgery and sadly although insurance plans offer discounts they don’t fully cover the entire cost of eye surgery. If you do go down the glasses route, the process isn’t too complicated and thankfully there are multiple brands that offer different types of stylish options of glasses.  Head to your nearest optician for an eye examination and a prescription for glasses to suit your condition. The whole process should take within 3-4 days. Laser Eye Surgery: Laser eye surgery in comparison to glasses is considerably costly and requires both care before and after surgery hence why it’s essential to do your research. We opted for optilase.co.uk for our surgery, but there are a number of reputable laser eye surgeons out there. So make sure you do your homework first.  While laser eye surgery is more expensive initially, in the long run you avoid the costs associated with glasses such as: Saving hundreds of pounds on the renewal of contact lenses and glasses Saving time associated with multiple fittings and appointments   If you find the idea of wearing glasses to be an inconvenience, then laser eye surgery is for you (but not if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding have cataracts or a vascular […]

How To Choose The Right Glasses

Last Updated on 18th January 2016 When it comes to choosing eyewear, it can be very easy to get confused by the sheer range of products available. Most websites will hit you with options for choosing by brand, style, frame material, shape and all sorts of other options. If it’s your first time buying a pair of glasses, you’re likely to be overwhelmed. Once you know which types of glasses would best suit your face shape (something that’s best done by cheekily trying on a few pairs in the opticians), you can narrow down your choices more easily. Some retailers, such as Vision Express or Specsavers, allow you to select from oval, rectangle, round and square shapes so you can eliminate products which wouldn’t be suitable for you. From then on, it’s down to style. For many people, the styles such as aviators, wayfarers and walrus glasses blend vintage styles with modern fashion perfectly. If you want something a bit more edgy, though, websites such as Frames Direct allow you to choose from labels such as trendy, hipster, nerdy, sporty and unique — all of which perfectly describe the different pairs of glasses on offer. This can be a fantastic way of narrowing your choice down to the sort of look you’re after. Most retailers will give you a way of narrowing down your choice by brand, too, which is ideal if you’re the sort of person who prefers to shop according to a certain fashion label rather than by style and practicality. With most of the big fashion labels offering a wide range of sunglasses, it would be fair to say there’s something for everyone. Brands such as Ray-Ban, Calvin Klein and Oakley are, of course, available from most of the major online retailers. For many people, though, it […]

The Hottest Designer Brands of Women’s Sunglasses This Year

Last Updated on 1st December 2015 When you are in the market for a new pair of sunglasses, you want to make sure you get the best. There are many different brands out there – including a great deal of the biggest names in fashion – so how on Earth are you supposed to make your mind up? Sure, you have your own tastes and you know what you like, but we can guarantee that there will be more than one pair that catches your eye. This year has seen so many spectacular additions to the sunglasses world, making that choice even more difficult than before. Luckily for you, then, that we have chosen to put together this list. Take a look at the below and you’ll surely find a pair to fall in love with. Dolce & Gabbana Known for their incredible range of sunglasses for many years now, Dolce & Gabbana never fail to live up to the (always high) expectations. And fortunately for all of us, this year is no exception to that rule, with a number of truly gorgeous pairs reaching the market. If you are looking for the perfect pair of sunglasses and you don’t want to completely break the bank, then the £160 colourful number will be the ideal choice to brighten your day. They’re just jazzy enough to make them exactly the thing to take on holiday with you, while still hanging onto that understated cool. DSquared2 Right now, there is little hotter in the sunglasses sector than an embellished pair, and DSquared2 knows this and puts their extensive knowledge to good use, creating some truly fabulous ocular accessories. Though perhaps a little pricier – the pair we like clocks in at around £250 on a good day – they are well worth […]

Keep Your Favourite Frames Longer with Glasses Re-glazing

Last Updated on 15th September 2015 Glasses can be one of the most personal items you’ll wear, whether it’s because they’re comfortable or because their style says something about you. That makes it especially frustrating when you need new glasses because your prescription has changed or the lenses are scratched, and you face having to find new frames that belong in the same way. In fact, you don’t need to go through that. Some firms, like New Lenses, specialise in glasses re-glazing, meaning that your favourite old glasses can become your favourite new glasses. Have Your Special Frames Re-glazed Designer frames don’t come cheap, especially if you’ve haven’t searched for online bargains, or alternatively your favourite frames may be hard to find. As Harper’s Bazaar points out, the fashion is growing for vintage frames, with Katy Perry, Chloe Sevigny and Taylor Swift among the trend’s champions, and many of these are irreplaceable. If the lenses are scratched or no longer appropriate for your eyesight, an optician can take the old ones out and replace them with new lenses, made according to your new prescription. To all appearances, you still have the same glasses. High Street or Online? Health News tells us that, while re-glazing is always going to be cheaper than replacing your glasses, having it done online is cheaper still. The Telegraph puts figures to it — “An optician will do this in-house for around £80, or a specialist online retailer…will do it for as little as £19.” The figures are compelling, but it seems counter-intuitive to have glasses created online. Don’t you have to be there, so the optician can measure and fit the glasses? It’s always been done that way in the past because it suits the traditional model of the High Street optician, and of course the […]

Contact lenses or glasses?

Last Updated on 2nd August 2019 With big name designer brands and celebrities like Gok Wan getting behind eye-wear in a big way, your specs can say as much about you and your tastes as can a pair of shoes or a handbag, and it can be just as important to get the look right. Since many wearers are seldom seen without their glasses, it’s worth investing in a pair of spectacles that’s as much for being seen in as for seeing through. Frames of mind The huge variety of frame shapes, styles, materials, and colours makes for infinite possibilities when it comes to womens glasses, but the same choices can also be a little overwhelming. Start by narrowing your search down to a particular type of frame, so you can then zero in on the perfect pair of spectacles. The first factor to take into consideration is your prescription. If you wear very strong lenses to correct short sight, it is best to choose small frames. The greater the diameter of the lenses, the thicker they will be at the outside edge. Plastic frames are a better choice for thick lenses than thin metal rims, and a wide arm will also disguise thicker lenses. Choose a frame style that goes with the shape of your face. Long faces are balanced out by wide frames, while square faces are lengthened and softened by oval ones. If your face is round, pick narrow, rectangular shapes. Rimless specs look good on triangular faces. Your choice of colour should also be influenced by face shape and skin tone, with lighter colours having a softening effect while dark shades add weight and contrast. Lifestyle is an important consideration. Light, tough plastic lenses and flexible titanium frames are a good choice if you’re into sports, […]

Olivia Palermo’s Westward \\ Leaning sunglasses collaboration

Last Updated on 9th June 2014 We know we aren’t the only ones who see Olivia Palermo as a bit of a style maven (and that’[s actually quite the understatement) so it doesn’t surprise us to learn that she has collaborated with Westward \\ Leaning on a sunglasses collection. Olivia was one of our brand’s earliest and most loyal supporters, and has remained a fan as we’ve grown our company,” co-founder and creative director Robert Denning said. “Olivia’s support has truly been incomparable. “I couldn’t have asked for a better informal brand ambassador, and it’s been so rewarding working with her on this collaboration.” The eight-piece collection comes in different styles and colours, and also features interesting materials at the temple which is a nice, unique little touch. The other thing we love about the collection is the fact that a portion of the proceeds are going to a very good cause; $10 from the sale of every pair of sunglasses will be going to ADCAM’s Maasai Project, of which Olivia is an ambassador. You can check out the collection in all its glory at Oliviapalermo.com. Which pair is your favourite?

Earlier this month Florence Welch from Florence + the Machine launched her very own jewellery collection and just before her Katy Perry spoke out about her forthcoming vintage fashion line. So, is it something in the water or just natural progression for talented celebrities to spread their creative wings a little further? We take a peek at the most on-trend sunglasses of the season and which celebrities they could have been inspired by! The Florence The singer-turned-jewellery designed has recently launched 80s style bracelets, necklaces and earrings for the modern trend-setter. Her contemporary, Art Deco style would go perfectly with these sharp designer sunglasses from RetroSun. The Gaga Ms Lady Gaga is a fan of textured fashion; lace being one of her recurring favourites. Perhaps not the best fabric for protecting your eyes from the sun’s rays but hey, the lady herself is never one to opt for practicality over beauty. The quirky use of chic black lace would be right up her street. The I Am Famed for his choice of eclectic eyewear, Will I Am is an obvious celebrity to design sunglasses for. Whenever spotted he is sporting a different pair of kooky sunglasses that get the fashion pages talking. This single lens style would be ideal for one of his more futuristic music videos. The British Designer of the Year 2012 clearly hasn’t been taking it easy since the Olympics as she has been busy designing her debut optical glasses range which is due for release in just a couple of months. We think she’s going to be in competition with Karl Lagerfeld for busiest fashion designer soon! “Optical is more and more part of fashion,” Stella told WWD. “If you actually take a moment to look around, you are surrounded by optical both as a necessity and a statement. It is exciting because it says something new, all ages express themselves through optical.” We couldn’t agree more! The collection will consist of five styles, and will stay true to Stella’s iconic masculine meets feminine aesthetic. If her extremely successful sunglasses collection is anything to go by, we have a feeling these are going to be just as popular and will be flying off the shelves. Prices will range from £149 to £157. [Telegraph]

Designer sunglasses: Splendid or a sorry waste?

Last Updated on 8th October 2012 [noskim] Accessory shopping, I’d like to think, is my forte. Drawn far too easily to a just-landed bag or the latest crop of eye-popping statement jewellery pieces; during a financially destructive trip to Selfridges, I’ll happily make allowances for an unnecessary accessory investment from my rent fund. But there’s a particular accessory category I haven’t quite warmed to, yet; sunglasses, and the hefty price tag that accompanies them. I may sound rather fickle, especially after declaring a soft spot for unnecessary expenditure, but standard looking sunnies that cost the equivalent of one month’s food allowance aren’t worth starving for. It confuses me that people are willing to spend a questionable sum of money on an item so prone to damage or loss, and with sunglasses becoming a permanent fixture in daywear looks, the fashionable population is increasingly treating sunglasses as an investment purchase – but, instead happily snapping up near seven pairs a year! The recent surge in luxe eyewear brands has afforded this previously seasonal accessory category cult status. A lizard-trimmed cat eye version by Linda Farrow Luxe will set you back a palm tingling £345, whilst Finest Seven’s 14 carat white gold-plated aviator sunnies will see you part with a meaty sum of £645. Fashion Editors (most notably La Wintour) have always seen the sunny side (pardon the pun) to recession-inducing eyewear, including the likes of Kanye West and Rihanna, often papped sunglasses-clad, indoors, past midnight; but sadly, we’re not all blessed with a budget of Niagara proportions. That said, it doesn’t mean I’d rule out applying my tried and tested high-low method to sunglasses shopping. Partial to snapping up pocket-friendly, on-trend eyewear at Topshop and Asos, thanks to their extensive collection of cat eye and round frame sunnies, it also works […]

Google Glasses unveiled at Diane von Furstenberg’s SS13 NYFW show

Last Updated on 10th September 2012 Technology and fashion have been working together rather seamlessly for years now, but Google has once again brought something new to the table – and at New York Fashion Week of all places! Tech-geeks might have already heard about the Google Glasses – a new headset that allows users to impose digital images on the world around them – but NYFW was the first time anyone outside of the Google family had experienced them. Diane von Furstenberg – a revolutionary in her own right – seemed like the perfect designer to test them out, as she used the glasses to not only showcase her new collection on the runway, but to also give users an insight into what goes on behind-the-scene too. “Today we’re thrilled to collaborate with the visionary and celebrated designer Diane von Furstenberg,” reads a press release from Google. “For the past week, we’ve been using Glass to capture the DVF creative process from entirely new perspectives. Soon you’ll get a glimpse into what it’s like to design, prepare and experience the DVF show at New York Fashion Week through Diane’s eyes and a few other views.” A short film entitled DVF through Glass will be released on Thursday September 13th on the DVF Google+ page as well as Google’s YouTube channel. There’s no word on when the glasses will be available to the public, but would you guys even wear them? What do you think of their appearance? Star Trek springs to mind if you ask us…

Last Updated on 23rd August 2012 Time to give your feet a rest and treat another part of your body to some Jimmy Choo now – your eyes! The fab brand has just released some stunning ‘Biker’ sunglasses, which have a vintage design and were apparently inspired by the laid back style of the West Coast. We like them. We like them a lot! “Adding an instant rock ‘n’ roll attitude to your look, the androgynous geometric shape and injection-moulded frames feature discreet details on the temple tips,” reads a press release. “Small metal studs in the shapes of playing card suits – spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs mirroring the draped biker chains on the versatile ‘Biker’ bag.” The Biker sunglasses are available in gloss black, matte black, nude, and ‘Havana’ colours and are available to buy right now! Lusting after Cheryl Cole’s Swarovski Amazing Blush sunglasses

Last Updated on 29th July 2011 Unfortunately, Cheryl Cole has had more than her fair share of reasons to hide those doe-eyes behind tinted discs. A failed rekindling of love with a cheating ex-spouse, and being at the receiving end of Simon Cowell’s boot after being replaced on the U.S. X Factor by arch nemesis Nicole Scherzinger, anyone would want to hide! But jetting of across the pond with a bid to turn her life around doesn’t mean she’s fallen off our style radar – even if she is guilty of nation betrayal! Cheryl made quite an entrance as she landed at LAX airport sporting a pair of a Swarovski’s Amazing Blush sunglasses from their fall/winter 2011 Wings of Fantasy collection. Mimicking crystals, the geometric cut frames add a definitive sparkle to a casual look as perfectly demonstrated by Cheryl’s jeans and shearling gilet combo. Also available in brown, black and crystal, the Amazing Blush sunglasses with dusky, graduated lenses perfectly mirror Cheryl’s sense of style: playful with a hint of sophistication. Kanye West, Tinie Tempah and Victoria Beckham are responsible for the meteoric rise of humble sunglasses from an article of necessity in sunnier climes, to something of a style requisite for any occasion, day or night. And if we can look as good as Cheryl, we’re definitely wearing these sunglasses at night. Swarovski Amazing Blush sunglasses, £255.

Steep vs Cheap: Cat eye sunglasses

Dior did much the same, teaming cat eye frames with Lolita fringes and eclectic prints. And with the summer sun playing peek-a-boo from behind the frequently grey sky, we’re trooping on in search of our favourite feline accessories.

Love or Hate: Cacharel tinted lens sunglasses

Last Updated on 19th October 2013 There’s definitely been a change in season over the past couple of weeks and, when the weather gets brighter, everyone’s attention turns to sunglasses. Probably my favourite summer accessory, the humble pair of shades can instantly change a look and gives a sense of swagger to even shyest amongt us. Every season sparks a new fascination in style; gold aviators, Victoria Beckham-style mega shades and lest we forget the year of the ubiquitous Ray Ban Wayfarer. But this year, I say banish all thoughts of tracking down the must-have pair because, my friend, this is the year of the funglasses. These Cacharel tinted sunglasses in bright pink are the most carefree and fashionable way to stay in the shade this summer. Their rounded shape and quirky colour give them a sense of retro-cool that no bug-eyed pair could ever achieve. They remind me of shades that Katy Perry would wear or, one of my personal cult fashion icons, Alabama Worley from the True Romance. Pair with a cute floral playsuit or high-waisted shorts and blouse for a killer nostalgic look. Add a slick of bright red lippie and you’ve just earned yourself a one-way ticket to retro-ville.   Cacharel Tinted Lens Sunglasses, £325, available at Matches. BUY NOW!

First look: Victoria Beckham’s spring Sunglasses

Last Updated on 13th January 2011 We all know sunglasses are no longer solely reserved for summer – you can thank Victoria Beckham for that – and as it happens, the newly-pregnant designer has just unveiled her latest line of sunglasses for spring. Yes, it may be mid-January, but in fashion that means a new season is nearly upon us, and frankly there’s no reason why you can’t be topping up your springtime accessories as we speak – and where Victoria Beckham’s pieces are concerned, we suggest you make your move all the more quickly (remember how quickly her handbags sold out on Net-a-Porter?). With the eagerly-anticipated launch of her brand new sunglasses collection set to hit stores any day now, VB is no wall flower when it comes to a great pair of statement shades – the bigger the better – which leaves us in no doubt that we’ll be lusting after her latest designs just that little bit more. According to Elle UK, fashion fans can expect to see an array of wayfarer styles, statement shapes and, for those looking for the ultimate in luxury, a pair of gold plated aviators, no less. Well, it is Victoria Beckham. To say we’re counting down the days until their launch would be an understatement to say the least… [Image: Elle UK]

Lunchtime buy: Ray-Ban Aviator sunglasses

Last Updated on 27th May 2010 Last night, us MFL girls were lucky enough to head to the Ray-Ban party in celebration of the iconic aviator at London’s Scala and we were reminded just how effortlessly stylish and timeless these sunglasses really are. Displayed in glass cases and on the heads of many a minor celeb, the aviator was the star of the show. Although we’re not normally advocates of the ‘wearing sunglasses indoors’ movement, last night the Top Gun style shades were out in force as attendees (including Peaches Geldof, Jaime Winstone and Sadie Frost) bopped along to the likes of The Big Pink and New York Dolls and, well, it did seem kind of appropriate. Get your very own pair of classic aviators: £118 from My-Wardrobe.

Weekly Poll: Sunglasses Style

Last Updated on 19th October 2013 It’s fair to say that the sunnies have been making an appearance more often than not during the recent weeks, and let’s be honest – last summer’s pair just aren’t going to cut it this season. Having a fabulous pair of shades can make or break an outfit and with all that sun we’re expecting this summer you better decide how best to complement those peepers. With designer offerings ranging from directional edgy frames to classic and vintage styles there’s sure to be one for you, whatever your style. Why not get a pair for every outfit? a) Retro Cool – inspired by 60s pop art I’ll be after some minimalist circle frames just like the Mykita for Marios Schwab pair. b) Pretty Pair – I love the lace effect glasses from Erdem – perfect for a more feminine look. c) Futuristic – I’ll be going for a modern urban look with Peter Pilotto for Linda Farrow’s functional and edgy frames. d) Statement eyes – I’ll be channelling fifities starlets with pink leopard print sunnies just like the pair from Giles for Cutler and Gross.

We recently tried on these statement sunglasses and were instantly smitten. The pale pink plastic frame makes these the perfect summer option to wear with pastels and of-the-moment neutrals and the cat’s eye shape echoes the Miu Miu animal print that we instantly fell in love with last year. $255/£165 from United Shades.

Sunglasses: Shutter Shades For Summer!

Made famous by Kanye West, reader Erin quite rightly highlighted that we forgot to include the “key sunglasses for this season. Available in a number of colours, this summer the shutter shade has proved to be the biggest competitor for the Wayfarer. My only question is how the hell does one see out of them? If you own a pair can you tell me…”Do they annoy you after a while?”

Reader Q&A: What is going to be the trend for sunglasses this season?

Last Updated on 21st March 2021 I have a question. What is going to be the trend for sunglasses this summer and early Fall? – Michael (June 2nd, 2008) Sunglasses are a funny thing in terms of trends because there are only so many ways to remodel a pair of spectacles. But, somehow, there is always some new utterly covetable style. The most obvious trend of the moment, for boys and girls, are the classic Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses. Not exactly new, they have been hanging around on countless celebrities long enough to be completely ubiquitous but somehow still desirable. Fairly universally flattering and understated (so long as you steer clear of the nu-rave coloured variety) you can pick up a pair to match any price range from ASOS right through to the original brand. One sunglasses trend that I know I will be embracing in some shape or form is tortoiseshell frames. Seen in every style from wayfarers to oversized, they remind me of dusty bookshelves, 60s film stars, hippies in Morocco and gin and tonics in the garden all at the same time. Karen Walker has some great chunky ones that look pretty good on boys and girls, while Topshop have countless tortoiseshell frames in more subtle styles. Head there, also, for some pretty great Hockney-esque round frames (different versions for different sexes) to wear with summer’s florals, to channel Paul Smith’s Hockney-meets-Bloomsbury group aesthetic. For more outlandish styles, round frames in general seem to be having a bit of a moment. Go for Dries van Noten-esque combination frames for an intellectual look that is far less faddy but still bang on trend (check ASOS for boys and girls). As a lifetime lover of all things Lolita, I must admit I am drawn to Topshop’s heart-shaped frames like a […]
