After looking at celebs dressed to the nines for the Oscars and respective after parties for the past few days, we definitely think it’s time to look at some casual celeb style. And nothing gets more casual than airport style, right? Well sort of; we’d say that’s about half right. Although you’ll usually find us at the airport in a onesie and a matching animal print neck pillow and a stash of the latest fashion glossies, Emma Watson actually went for something far chicer. The former Harry Potter darling was spotted at London’s Heathrow Airport after a long haul flight back from Hollywood (she was prettying up the red carpet at the Oscars, in case anyone needed reminding!), rocking a black and white Sandro dress with the must-have coat of the season, a Burberry trench. She added some dark Rayban sunnies to hide any signs of tiredness from the long flight or from partying too much – or maybe even a little bit of both – and wore flat loafers for comfort. Rihanna wows in 20-year-old Chanel suit on Good Morning America

Well doesn’t Rihanna scrub up well? Rihanna is a versatile artist and dresser, and although we don’t have a problem with the majority of her racy costumes, we love it when she surprises us and goes for something on the chic and elegant scale too. And nothing screams chic and lady-like better than vintage Chanel, right? The Bajan singer made a guest appearance on Good Morning America to promote her work with MAC, and wore a bright coral skirt suit from the Chanel spring/summer 1994 (no, not a typo – this suit really is 20 years old!) collection for the occasion. Her outfit proved what we already knew, and that’s that the French fashion House really does make timeless creations! Rihanna completed her chic appearance by wearing some gorgeous Manolo Blahnik pumps, wearing her hair sleek and straight, and opting for minimal make-up save for a bold red lip. Fergie is Worst Dressed of the Week

Yes, we’ve just come out of the thick of the party season, and past a certain level of drinking, style inhibitions unsurprisingly seem to vanish. So, when we spotted Fergie selfie-ing it up on Instagram in this rather garish ensemble, well, we had to comment. Headed for what seems like a Studio 54-themed New Year’s Eve bash, Fergie wore a black sequin jumpsuit-cum-leotard-with-leggings, topped off with a monstrous green shaggy (faux?) fur coat. Ample cleavage was on show, and the accessories for the night included a pair of cat-eye sunglasses (in the dark; how Kanye is she?!), and platform heels. Deliberate fancy dress, or just her ode to the disco theme, we don’t know; but we’ve seen Fergie rock far better looking outfits than this one! Guess we can blame this particular wardrobe malfunction on the New Year bubbly cheer, if not anything else. Honestly, Fergie, a knockout white suit à la Bianca Jagger would’ve sufficed y’know. Celine Dion is Worst Dressed of the Week in Atelier Versace

Here’s a look that has fiercely divided opinion this week. Celine Dion took to the stage at the The Voice season 5 finale earlier this, week dressed in a rather raunchy Atelier Versace number. And for us, it just doesn’t work. The singer wore the teensy black dress from the Fall 2013 collection to perform her latest single, ‘Incredible’ ft.Ne-Yo. The embellished, high neck LBD features a rather revealing cut-away panel at the chest, showing a lace corset underneath, with full length sleeves and a dangerously high hem. There is nothing wrong with the dress per se, but paired with Celine’s open, tousled locks, its looks a little too busy around the neck area. And, then there’s the cardinal rule of dress dressing: chest or legs, not both. Although cleavage spillage is kept to a maximum with this look, the thigh-grazing length of the dress competes all to much with the revealing chest area detail. We’re pretty envious of the 45-year-old’s amazing figure, but would’ve preferred a longer hemline. The Fall runways were all about peek-a-boo detailing, which makes this dress ideal, but a case of wrong styling got the better of Celine’s look. Barbie gets a Stephen Jones make-over in time for Christmas

Are these illustrations of Lady Gaga’s new tour wardrobe? Nope, but we bet she will want in on the action – especially if the hat she wore on the Graham Norton show at the weekend was anything to go by. Milliner extraordinaire Stephen Jones is the latest creative to give everyone’s favourite plastic lady – Barbie – a make-over, and has designed five outfits for her to wear over the Christmas period. All five dolls will be on sale in the Selfridges Toy Shop on November 15th, retailing for £250 each. “We’re enamoured with the idea of truly one-of-a-kind gifts this Christmas,” said Erin Moscow, a spokesperson for Selfridges. “More than ever before we’re aware of the demand for pieces which offer something really special. “These pieces don’t necessarily come with a million-pound price tag – they’re not about ostentatiousness – their beauty lies in their rarity. Julianne Hough is Worst Dressed of the Week…as ‘Crazy Eyes’

Long before elaborate Halloween parties and expertly executed outfits, it was all about dressing up as a witch and trying your luck at trick or treating. Of course, things don’t remain so vanilla in Hollywood, and this week, actress Julianne Hough has been the subject of controversy over her not-so-PC outfit choice. Far from being spooky, Julianne’s get-up for the Casamigos Halloween Party in Hollywood last week attracted backlash from the public, and rightfully so. Dressed as the character ‘Crazy Eyes’ from the hit Netflix series, Orange Is The New Black, Julianne sported a bright orange prison uniform and Gwen Stefani hair, circa ’95. But it wasn’t her wacky choice of attire that infuriated the masses, rather her blackface makeup. Particularly distasteful, whatever her intentions with this look; but she claims to be a fan of the show, and of the character she was imitating, played by African-American actress, Uzo Aduba. Given the heated debate surrounding the Vogue Netherlands ‘Blackface’ editorial, we’re not surprised by the extreme reaction to Julianne’ actions – after all, fashion may be a make-believe world pushing boundaries (and buttons), but as a representative of Hollywood, Julianne should know better. Although Julianne took to social media to repent her allegedly racially offensive actions, tweeting: “It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize,” we’re still slapping her with this week’s worst dressed title. Then of course we got to reminiscing about her sartorial choices of the past and were once again besotted. In fact, it’s pretty much what inspired this list in the first place! Yee-hah – MFL and Christian Dior fave Jennifer Lawrence has only gone and landed the coveted September issue cover of American Vogue! 2013 is definitely Jen’s year; first a ‘Best Actress’ Oscar for her role in Silver Linings Playbook and now the Vogue September cover. Surely it doesn’t get better than this, does it? The most serious fash-off ever: Anna Wintour vs. Marc Jacobs in Prada

Yes, you read that right. We’ve stepped into this week’s fash-off with bated breath, because it really is so important. And scary. Last week, at a screening of The Great Gatsby in New York, two fashion gods were united in the same Prada spring/summer 2013 coat. *Cue awkward cough/shuffle* Anna Wintour, who is viewed as nothing less than the Queen Bey of the fashion world (we mean that in power, not booty, terms), would have you believe she has a firm grip over the who-wears-what at high profile events where she is in attendance, ensuring that she is the only one wearing a particular piece from the latest runway collection. Yet, upon coming face-to-face with Marc Jacobs in the exact same look, we figure the expression on both their faces reads something like this: ‘Have we, I mean WE committed the ultimate fashion faux pas?’ But regardless of this sartorial mishap, the most awkward question is yet to come: who do you think wore Prada better? Naturally, Wintour went her signature elegant way, with dainty heels and a pristine bob, whilst Jacobs brought the fun to Prada (not that Prada needs it ) with printed socks and sneakers. We loved a good bargain, especially when that bargain comes in the form of a delicious pair of heels, but we might have to think twice in future thanks to some wise words from Sarah Jessica Parker. “For ten or so years, I literally ran in heels,” SJP told Net-a-Porter’s new mag, The Edit. “I worked 18-hour days and never took them off. I wore beautiful shoes, some better made than others, and never complained.” “But then I did I Don’t Know How She Does It, and I was very thoughtful about my whole wardrobe and said, you know, Kate Reddy could not afford really good footwear. So I got lower priced shoes and the bottoms weren’t leather, they were plastic, so I slipped a couple times, twisted my ankle. “I went to a foot doctor and he said, ‘Your foot does things it shouldn’t be able to do. That bone there… You’ve created that bone. It doesn’t belong there.’” Yikes! Kate Winslet talks The Queen, Sarah Burton, and her new life in Harper’s Bazaar UK April

Like a fine wine, Kate Winslet seems to get better with age – and her Harper’s Bazaar UK front cover is solid proof of that! Alexi Lubomirski had the pleasure of photographing the new Mrs Ned Rocknroll (Richard Brandon’s nephew, fyi) in an array of stunning outfits courtesy of Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Fendi and Roland Mouret, each picture just as stunning as the last. As well as taking our breath away in her gorgeous editorial, the actress also opened up to the mag about how the mistakes she made in the past have shaped her new life, as well as what it was like meeting The Queen when she was awarded her CBE. “Oh my God, she looks amazing,” she gushed.  “Beautiful skin – and wonderful thick hair. She looked really well and pretty and fresh, and she was wearing a lovely pale-yellow dress.” And let’s not forget the dress that Kate herself wore on that momentous day – designed by none other than Sarah Burton…. “I do think Sarah Burton is a genius,” she said. “And it’s remarkable what she’s done, moving into a role like that, and really keeping it McQueen – that’s hard. I mean, that’s like taking over playing Hamlet and playing it exactly the same. It’s just incredible. She’s given it a touch of herself without taking anything away from it.” That’s a pretty spot on description if you ask us! Ten iconic Princess Diana dresses up for auction!

Ten of Princess Diana’s most iconic dresses are going under the hammer at a Kerry Taylor auction that’s taking place on March 19th in Bermondsey, and they’re expected to fetch over £800,000. Among the gorgeous creations are up for grabs is the Victor Edelstein midnight blue silk velvet dress which Princess Diana wore at the White House ball back in 1985. It’s regarded as one of the most famous dresses she ever wore, and is currently valued at £300,000. Other dresses in the auction include some stunning evening gowns by Catherine Walker – including the one she wore for her Vanity Fair Mario Testino shoot back in 1997 – as well as a white chiffon dress by Zandra Rhodes and a black velvet dress by Bruce Oldfield. Louise Redknapp and hubby suit up in monochrome

Looks like there might be some truth in that thing people say about couples starting to look and dress alike after being together for a while. Just look at Jamie and Louise Redknapp for example… The married couple both wore the trousers as they attended the Retail Trust London Ball at the Grosvenor House in our fine Capital last night, and we think they both rocked their respective suits with ease and the utmost effortlessness. There’s nothing better than a husband and wife complementing each other sartorially – especially when attending a big event – and Mr and Mrs Redknapp seem to have nailed it. We don’t deny the fact that Louise would have looked equally as beautiful in the right floor-length gown and portrayed the role of ‘trophy wife’, but we can’t fault her modern look one bit. The Critics Choice Awards 2013: The best dressed!

We have so many looks from the 18th Annual Critics Choice Awards to get through this afternoon we’d better crack on and get straight down to business. Basically this year’s CCA’s were something rather spectacular, with the red carpet being dominated by goddesses in predominantly floor-length fabulous frocks. There were a few exceptions of course – Marion Cotillard for example wore a sensational Zuhair Murad tea dress which earned her a top spot on our best-dressed list. Fashion is all about taking risks and standing out from the crowd after all! Other ladies who really impressed us with their gowns include Anne Hathaway in golden Oscar de la Renta, her Les Miserables co-star Amanda Seyfried in custom Marios Schwab and her former Devil Wears Prada costar Emily Blunt in sensational Miu Miu. Jennifer Lawrence pulled out another showstopper by way of her black Prabal Gurung dress, and Jaime King turned a multitude of heads by looking flawless in a sexy Jason Wu creation. Kate Moss turns X Factor stylist?

We all know that the contestants’ wardrobes are just as an important part of the  X Factor as the singing. Therefore it shouldn’t surprise you to learn that Simon Cowell and the team are pulling out all the stops to ensure the 10-year anniversary series this year will be something special. And there’s no one better than ultimate British supermodel Kate Moss to guarantee that, is there? Instead of parading up and down a makeshift catwalk on the show though, Mossy will reportedly be getting involved behind the scenes, as she will act as stylist to the contestants for one very special Britpop week of the live shows. Sounds pretty cool! “The one-off special is about the show being more than just music,” a source reportedly told Grazia. “He wants Kate talking about her memories, outfits she wore in the 90s and dressing some of the contestants. Kate is definitely up for the challenge. “Simon is absolutely desperate to breathe life back into X Factor. He knows he has to change everything from the judges to the sets to the contestants themselves, but he also wants each show to contain something never seen or done before, something he calls: ‘Blow your pants off moments.’” We hope Kate doesn’t interpret that too literally when she’s styling the contestants. Love or Hate: Penelope Cruz’s leather Versace coat

Penelope Cruz’s red carpet choices are usually on the very romantic side or the sexy but still very chic side… and never really anywhere in the middle. That’s not a bad thing though, because she hardly ever puts a foot wrong, but the actress decided to go for something different for the Venuto Al Mondo photocall in Rome. The gorgeous Latina – who along with her sister Monica is creating her own lingerie collection with Agent Provocateur – decided to mix things up a bit, and went for an edgy leather Versace Resort 2013 trench coat. If you have epic curves a’ la Penelope, you’d want to show them at every given opportunity, and unfortunately that’s not happening here. We’re not overly keen on the simple black pumps she accessorised with either; something more outrageous would have been far better! Plus, we don’t think the windswept wild hairdo really fitted in with the overall look. Put someone like Alice Dellal or Gwen Stefani in the coat and they would totally rock it, but we think Penelope is too classically beautiful for it. We do applaud the sartorial risk though, but we don’t think it’s her best look to date. Now the blue vintage Versace dress she wore to the actual premiere… now that’s the classic Penelope we know, love and insanely envious of!  The elegant up-do and intricate Chopard jewellery she accessorised with were spot on – she looked flawless! Is it a dress or a tuxedo jacket?  Well, that’s not really important here because we’re concerning ourselves with which style maven wore it better! Welcome to this week’s fash off between two fashionable ladies who know how to command the camera in whatever they wear. Black Eyed Peas’ Fergie and Cali queen Kim Kardashian stepped out in the same Balmain stretch tuxedo dress a day apart, and as expected, both put their own spin on it! Fergie made an outing in the Balmain number first, as she was papped arriving at a New York Fashion Week event thrown by Case-Mate. Teaming her tux dress with pointed black pumps and a black cami top worn underneath, Fergie sported her trademark glossy curls and a slick of serious red on her nails. After taking on board rapper beau Kanye’s advice we’ve seen Kim sporting many a sombre ensemble. And this outing in a sharp tux dress is no exception, considering she was on a date night with Mr. West! Kim wore the tuxedo dress with Gianvito Rossi ankle strap sandals, and opted for a risqué look by pinning the lapels high up and going sans cami underneath. We absolutely love the slick silhouette and power shoulders, and although usually expensive, we just can’t resist a sharp Balmain number that’s as hot on the bod as it is on the money! One is the official queen of off-duty dressing; the other is better known for a daring, yet questionable approach to ‘personality projection’ through her sartorial choices. We could only be talking about Jessica Alba, oh, and Rihanna. This week’s fash-off (or should we say cas(ual)-off) sees the two beauties go head-to-head in considerably low-key outfits  – well that’s definitely low-key for RiRi, after what she landed in at Heathrow Airport! Vivacious wardrobe queen, Rihanna, was papped out in London in a complimentary logo-ed Kenzo ensemble, denim cut-offs, Opening Ceremony ‘Mary Ellen’ boots and her fave Gucci USA GG Flag Collection Boston Bag. On the other hand, Jessica Alba was spotted strolling around LA in a pair of – what are fast becoming her signature staple – Current/Elliott black stiletto Wildflower jeans, a casual blue tank and Surface to Air strappy sandals. The Contestants Rashida Jones attended the New York premiere of Celeste and Jessie in a printed Resort 2013 Thakoon dress. Valentino sandals and a killer red pout completed her look. Nicola Roberts arrived at the Styled to Rock photo call in a Montreal Canadiens hockey jersey dress and white strappy platform heels. Channeling the sporty vibe, we guess Olympics fever has really gripped Nicola! Jessica Biel appeared on Good Morning America in a teal, bijoux print Oscar de la Renta Fall 2012 dress. Completing her look were Louis Vuitton toe-cap pumps, a perfectly tousled mane and her signature smile. Opinion Fashion News Ed, Maria says: ‘As Rashida’s dress is so busy, some simple nude pumps would have sufficed. I like the idea to use a waist-defining belt, but a skinnier one would have been a better choice.’ ‘Nicola does kind of look like she got out of her high school boyfriend’s bed in a hurry, wore his top by accident and then legged it out of the house doing a walk of shame. What do you get when you cross one of the hottest British models with one of the most successful fashion labels in the world? A serious contender – and winner – for our Best Dressed of the Week prize, that’s what! The Dark Knight Rises premieres made choosing our best dressed celeb rather difficult this week, and as much as we loved all of Anne Hathaway’s sartorial red carpet choices thus far, we decided to go for Kelly Brook on this occasion. Partly due to patriotism, but also partly because we’ve never seen her look better! Kelly was promoting Magnum’s first ever pop-up store at Westfield earlier this week, and akin to the tasty chocolate treat, she looked rather scrumptious herself! The brunette model wore a burgundy two-tone Alexander McQueen dress from the pre-fall 2012 collection, teamed with a matching wide waist belt and some to-die-for YSL sandals. We  love how well everything is synced together; her luscious waves and sparkly earrings add the finishing touches to a stunning overall look. Well done, Kel!

This week’s Rate or Slate feature takes us to the BET Awards and the Atelier Versace Couture show. First up at the BET Awards was singer Monica, who provided us with an interesting burgundy trouser-suit with a plunging front and a reverse peplum jacket. Singer M.I.A did Donatella proud and attended the Atelier Versace Couture show in Paris in a full-on Versace ensemble teamed with bold red lips and gold bling. Beyonce wore a very bright Stephane Rolland full-length gown to the BET Awards at the weekend, which she teamed with a full mane of natural, voluminous curls and a smile that lit up the room! What did the Style Jury make of these looks? Amy of Wolf Whistle says: Monica: ‘This cranberry/burgundy combo is in my favourite shades so I’m biased but I think Monica looks gorgeous here. She’s trying but not trying toooooo hard and accessorising with just the most beautiful skin. I’m down with this, even if I couldn’t sit down in it.’ M.I.A: ‘I always think it’s a little bit naff to wear a band tee shirt to that band’s gig but wearing TRIPLE VERSACE to sit front row at Versace Haute Couture is just so incredibly naff that it’s superhypermega cool. OK, so we gave you a run-down of some of our personal best dressed celebs at the 2012 Met Gala, but now it’s time to go beyond the dresses and check out the all-important hair choices. We were mesmerised by some of the hairstyles on the Met Gala red carpet, so we decided to put together a short list of some of our favourites. We all know that a good hairstyle is just as important as finding the right matching accessories and getting the make-up spot on too. Coco Rocha’s pretty pink extensions Coco Rocha’s pink curls were the first thing we saw in regards to this year’s Met Gala, as she showed all her Twitter followers a teaser pic… and we weren’t disappointed when she revealed her full look either. We applaud Coco for going for something bold and daring in both the hair and wardrobes stakes, and her fashion risks definitely paid off. Elsa Schiaparelli would 100% approve of all that pink! Jessica Alba and Lea Michele’s vintage Hollywood waves Jessica Alba was one of our best dressed ladies of the entire evening… she looked the epitome of Hollywood glamour in her golden Michael Kors dress, and her loose, ultra-glam side-swept waves complemented her look perfectly. Lea Michele also went for the old Hollywood look, choosing to wear her brown locks in a loose bob, contributing to her utterly flawless look. Rate or Slate: Dakota Fanning in Prada, Jennifer Lopez in Lanvin and Ginnifer Goodwin in H&M Red Carpet Conscious Collection

For this week’s Rate or Slate, the A-list style choices have left us, well, in a bit of a fashion pickle and only reinforced our indecisiveness! 18-year-old Dakota Fanning opted for what appears to be a beyond-her-years Prada gown at the 2012 White House Correspondents’ Dinner, while Ginnifer Goodwin who also attended– and known for her unconventional take on fashion in the spotlight – went for a H&M Conscious Collection dress, flying the flag high for the humble high street, similarly to when she opted for Topshop at last year’s Met Gala. Jennifer Lopez, on the other hand, appeared in a rather interesting Lanvin number as she announced her mega 20-city tour, earlier this week. Sporting a tri-coloured stretch silk dress accessorised in the most unusual way – with a crystal snake motif wrapped around her neck! We’re not too ssssurrreee (ahem) what we think! Thought provoking fashion, much? It’s over to our discerning Style Jury to decide whether they approve… Fashion News Ed says: Dakota Fanning: ‘Dakota was one of my personal best dressed guests at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner… always demure, elegant, sophisticated etc, etc. She does have the tendency to dress older than her years, but I don’t think she should start dressing like a teenager now, especially since she’s almost 20 and has found her “look”. We’ve got quite the mix of style for this week’s Rate or Slate! Naturally, a little Coachella fashion has been thrown into the mix, alongside what we saw on the red carpet. Ever the indecisive lot, we’re having a little situation with making our minds up on this week’s starlets. Olivia Palermo wore a Zara ensemble to the ‘Safe’ New York Premiere, and chose to recycle some instantly recognisable accessories, including an insanely beautiful vintage Hermes clutch. Extrovert socialite, Paris Hilton, wore her colourful personality in skirt form, as she channelled a boho vibe by opting for the printed Shannon skirt by Alice + Oliva as one of her many Coachella outfits. Teaming with a white bandeau top and fringed statement necklace, Paris’s outfit sure turned heads. Jaime Winstone appeared on the red carpet in an interesting Giles number for the premiere of her latest film, ‘Elfie Hopkins’. Sporting a shaved head as part of her latest role as a soldier in the new series of Mad Dogs, we’re not sure what we think of her latest avatar. Best Dressed of the Week: Coco Rocha in Zac Posen at the 9th Annual Spring Dinner Dance New Year’s In April: A Fool’s Fete

This week’s Best Dressed is a special one; both the dress and its wearer look amazing on the catwalk. It’s always a breathtaking sight when we spot a model in a stunning gown, and what better designer to turn to than the maestro of red-carpet style, Zac Posen. Supermodel Coco Rocha wore the stunning tulle edelweiss embroidered gown from the Zac Posen Spring 2012 collection, and boy oh boy did she look like a dream in it! Hardly in need of any accessorising, the gown has beautifully crafted butterfly wings situated atop the shoulders which Coco showed off by wearing her hair in a wispy up do. Form-fitting with a dramatically embroidered extended trail; just like the lady,Coco’s look is flawless. With a barely there berry stain on her lips to ensure the pale green gown didn’t completely wash her out, Coco opted to go sans accessories and it worked. An all-eyes-on-me gown like this surely needs no enhancement in any way. A no brainer for this week’s BDOTW!

Lana Del Rey’s Style: Eccentric, experimental or explain, please?

This is not a post to knock down, smash to smithereens, and then build back up a singer, who by many, is held in high regard, but a complimentary offering to subtly convince them to sort our their damned wardrobe. Considering she’s relatively new talent, Lana Del Rey can definitely claim her stake of fame, after a revamped introduction into the music industry with debut track Video Games, followed up by the massive hit Born to Die; being snapped up by NEXT Model Management Agency and even having a Mulberry bag named in her honour. The voluptuous-lipped beauty is definitely a mesmerising singer and influencer, but quite the miserable dresser we hoped she wouldn’t be. That moment of fury, sudden disgust and initial shock-reaction gasp we’ve all endured at some point in our lives came for me the other day, when trawling through various fashion sites I landed on an image of Lana at the Evening of Environmental Excellence, in Los Angeles. Her attire raised many questions at once, which couldn’t all be processed into rational answers at the time, because, frankly, Lana’s style doesn’t fall into ‘rational’, either. Wearing a graphic printed blouse (great), dark jeans (on point) a statement medallion necklace (yes, I approve), Converse trainers (comfortable, fashionable) and a seriously misplaced faux fur coat (huh?), I couldn’t figure out, mentally, how to assess this muddled ensemble. See, Lana may have a hidden stylish streak, as awe-inspiring as her hypnotic vocals, but we only get to hear the latter and never see the former. Modern-era music artists have really taken to expressing their on-stage credentials through their choice of clothing and, no one has done this better than the eccentric, ‘Black Barbie’ embracing Nicki Minaj. Yes, paying celebrities to attend fashion shows is a big deal, a huge one in fact.

Sitting front row at a modern day catwalk show is the equivalent of being front of the ration line in the 40s. You have a need(hunger, mouths to feed; fashion, trends) and a purpose (make good use of the ration coupon; deliver on next seasons trend) to fulfil. OK, maybe the example is extreme but the mentality is the same: If you’re in front, you’re perceived as having succeeded – the fashion house that is. Apparently, positioning certain celebrities at the front has been costing fashion houses dearly, whereby hefty fees have been handed out in exchange for about 20 minutes of their forced smile faces and super-toned bums to be parked on the front row. A move deeply condemned by French-born, London-based designer, Nicole Farhi. “It is so unprofessional. I have never paid a celebrity and I will never do it. It’s stupid”, she told Sunday Telegraph’s Stella magazine. Farhi, 65, went on to add that she was set on exposing the practice of backhand, cash-splashing seat-fixing deals so common in the fashion world, even if she risked the wrath of so many of her fellow fashion contemporaries. Even Lady Mary Chateris stuck in with a jibe, telling the Telegraph: “They pay people to be on the front row to show off the clothes where everyone can see them. That is where all of the photographs are taken.” Brave move ladies and one we welcome with open arms. Best of 2011: 5 trends we loved

2011 has certainly been a year for experimenting: there must be something about living in a bleak economical climate that’s made us all a bit more dreamy and creative, and all the better for it, we say! This year, we’ve donned all manner of lengths, fabrics and patterns (to many a varied response, probably), but creating, experimenting and borrowing styles is what keeps fashion exciting and meaningful, right? And besides, it’s always fun dressing up to try out a new look, whether it works or not. So, without further ado, here are our five favourite trends that we loved from 2011… Sixties Mod Our favourite era; what’s not to love about short A-line dresses and a sleek monochrome palette? This year we’ve channelled Jean Shrimpton, Jane Birkin and Twiggy all at once, we’ve flicked our eyeliners and we’ve donned every Peter Pan collar going, and do you know what? We loved every minute of it. Peace, Love and Mod Dressing? Yes, please! Prints 2011 was undeniably the year of the print: never before have we seen so many bold and beautiful patterns sported all at once. Mixing your fruit print shorts with your breton stripe T-shirt was officially how we wore print this year – it doesn’t sound like it should work on paper, but in practice, it’s brilliant. Fur Fluffy, furry, faux and fantastic: fur had a real moment in 2011. Lunchtime buy: Tabitha Simmons Ester suede and leather ankle boots

After winning the Emerging Talent Accessories Award at the British Fashion Awards last week, there couldn’t be a better time to invest in some footwear by Tabitha Simmons. The model-turned-footwear-designer trained in London and has since been crafting her shoe designs for two years. Now based in New York, Simmons is really making a name for herself. It seems that years in the fashion industry have trained her eye to deliver exactly the kind of footwear that we want – sleek, quirky and stylish, yet classic and comfortable, too. Despite Lungta De Fancy designer Mai Marimoto being on her way to celebrating the 10th anniversary of the brand, penning a book and branching out into lingerie in the next coming months, the Central Saint Martins graduate remains a humble and fuss-free designer with a true passion and talent for her work – and a desire to please every one of her shoppers. And, since we mention it, those shoppers happen to include some of fashion’s most famous faces from Lady Gaga to Victoria Beckham and Rihanna (and even a royal, too). The appeal, it seems, is her ability to meet every girl’s needs. You can find Lungta De Fancy in London’s New Bond Street, Knightsbridge and St Christopher’s Place, which is where we caught up with the designer last week as part of the fabulous Thank You Thursdays shopping event. Shock, gasp! Olivia Palermo does peach overkill at Princess Grace Awards

We usually love Olivia Palermo’s stylish get-ups but, we have to admit, we were a little disappointed by the peach satin dress she wore to the Princess Grace Awards in New York this week. And yes, we’re as shocked as you. Famed for her cutting edge yet timelessly elegant style, this outfit did nothing to up her fashion cred – the mid-length peach number looked too big for her tiny frame and didn’t act to complement Olivia’s olive skin tone. We’re also not particularly enamoured by that giant peach fur shawl. While we’re all for a bit of well-placed fur here and there, Miss Palermo’s shawl is too big, too fuzzy and too, er, peach! A contrasting shade could have been so much better. But all that said, her Charlotte Olympia peach and gold platform heels are knockouts, and we’re completely smitten with her dainty blue panelled clutch bag. True, there are flashes of brilliance to this outfit, but on this occasion – and we can’t quite believe we’re saying this – it’s fashion fail for Olivia. Do you agree? Tried & Tested: Debenhams Triple Boost bra

Some things just need a boost: my shoe wardrobe, the ailing economy and the weather, to name but a few. So we decided to boost something closer to home and put the Debenhams Triple Boost Bra to the test. Promising me a (much needed) ‘boob job in a bra’, the padded push up bra boasts the latest cleavage enhancing technology in the form of a three-step cleavage revolution. If it’s all sounding too technical, I’ll break it down for you. The ‘miracle-working’ bra came with a mini diagram explaining how I could achieve the ample bosoms I’ve longed for since my teen years. Step 1: the soft foam cushion enhances the overall shape. Step 2: the medium foam cushion lifts the bust. Step 3: the firm foam provides a mega side push and lift. And though the three foam inserts inside the cup resembled large pebbles, they worked nonetheless. The Triple Boost bra felt comfortable and didn’t give that ‘compressed’ feeling I generally get when slipping into bust boosters for the entire day.  Immediately after wearing the bra, I looked in the mirror to assess my newly ample bust area and instantly noticed an impressive difference: my bust had visibly been lifted as promised by the three-step technology. I wore the Triple Boost bra with a deep v-necked dress – the type of neckline I usually avoid due to a lack of sufficient cleavage to do it any justice – and lasted the whole day thanks to my new found confidence (in a bra!). Ok, we confess – we’re totally loving Kelly Rowland at the moment. She’s always been one to watch when it comes to the style stakes, but she’s really brought it down when it comes to her wardrobe for the X Factor. We don’t know about you, but half the time we’re just switching over to see what she’s wearing. So, what do we think about Ms. Rowland’s rather striking Versace dress and Giuseppe Zanotti boots that she wore to the X Factor press launch a couple of weeks ago? For us, it certainly makes a style statement, especially when it comes to the innovatively cut-out back and slash of emerald snakeskin colour. The only thing we’re not so sure on is her boots. Kate Moss inspired by My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding

We all witnessed a social flipside when My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding aired for the first time on our televisions in February 2010. Representative of the stark contrast between the Gypsy and Traveller community way of life to that of modern Britain; we were transfixed by a terrifyingly aggressive form of passion better known as ‘grabbing’, and wedding dresses that outshone Katie Price’s Cinderella-inspired catastrophe for her wedding to Peter Andre in 2005. It almost seems Gypsy and Traveller girls are born to marry: it’s the only day in their lives they constantly, subconsciously, plan for, with many considered ‘out of date’ past 18. And it was this very alarming fact that inspired Kate Moss – at 37, a very ‘out of date’ bride-to-be by Gypsy and Traveller standards – to marry beau, Jamie Hince. Talking to American Vogue, about My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding Kate said, “They’re not allowed to do anything until they get married. So they all get married really young, at 16. You can’t believe the dresses. “They’re like blinging butterflies times 10; they can’t move down the aisle! It’s so genius. “I was just watching Jamie, so cute, and I was like, ‘These girls, they just spend their whole life waiting for that day — let’s do it!” Thankfully she left the Gypsy wedding influence behind as she wore a dreamy creation by long-term friend and ‘creative rehab’ returner, John Galliano, for the big day. It’s safe to Kate is yet to befriend Thelma Madine – the woman behind the ostentatiously nauseating Gypsy wedding dresses. A day we all pray never comes.

Kate Middleton’s L.K. Bennett wedges will be reissued (and there’s a waiting list already)

As we predicted, Kate Middleton’s L.K Bennett wedges (the ones she wore before and after the wedding), are set to be reissued in June this year, in what has got to be the largest band wagon running. So if you haven’t already got her blue Issa dress, Reiss’s Nannette dress or her engagement blouse, perhaps you can get these. Originally called Greta, the British brand is re-launching the black patent espadrille wedges under a new name – The Kate – which is a little tacky whichever way you look at it. Still, at least their price will remain the same (£150), unlike a certain Whistles blouse. Apparently ‘The Kate’ already has a waiting list, or so says the Daily Mail, so if you were hoping to get your paws on them, you’d better join now. Frankly, we can think of better wedges to spend £150 on, but we can’t deny The Kate Effect. Will you be putting your name down?

Gisele wears Victoria Beckham (and VB’s a little excited)

Fewer things give you a better seal of approval as a designer than critical acclaim and having the world’s most successful supermodels wearing your pieces. Luckily for Victoria Beckham, she now has both. Last Friday, Gisele Bundchen wore a Victoria Beckham dress to the 2011 Global Environment Citizen Awards, which honoured the super for her humanitarian work, in New York – and Victoria was the first to announce her approval. “Hello fashion bunnies!!!how beautiful does Gisele look in #VictoriaBeckham !!!!! A dream come true for me!!!! X vb,” she tweeted. The designer later uploaded a picture of Gisele in the dress, accompanied with “Wow!!! X vb”. From the amount of exclamation marks, we assume Victoria was pretty excited. And we get it, we’d be pretty excited if Gisele – aka the-girl-too-beautiful-to-actually-be-a-human – wore one of our dresses too (especially given that we’re not designers, but we digress). She looked surprisingly chic in VB’s signature black pencil dress; a more demure style than we’re used to seeing from Bundchen – no legs, no splits, no figure-flaunting – but it’s lacking excitement, even if it is fitting for the occasion.
