Mix and match: The best ways to stretch your wardrobe

Sometimes, buying a whole new seasonal wardrobe just isn’t possible, whether it’s because you don’t have the funds or the time to scour the high street for what’s on trend. This is why it pays to mix and match with a few statement pieces to really stretch that wardrobe. Unsure how to go about doing this? Here’s are some of the best ways: Buy into basics Basic t-shirts, jeans and jackets are easy to throw on and evergreen pieces will never look off trend. Look for plain oversized t-shirts and pair one of these with skinny jeans and high tops for simple casual style, a simple skater dress and heels works for nights out or even days spent in the office. Opt for easy to style colours such as black, khaki, white and navy to ensure that wardrobe can stretch as far as possible. Stock investment pieces Your outerwear should make an impression and that’s why it’s a good idea to invest in one of the hottest women’s summer jackets this season. This means making your choice from embroidered denim, quilted bombers and smart trench coats and pairing these with the basics of your choice. One great jacket can truly make a whole wardrobe and is a key piece to base whole outfits from, making it super easy to stretch what clothes you already have. The right shoes They say shoes make an outfit, so opt for a pair that go with everything and you’re set for the months ahead. In the summer, a simple pair of flat sandals that don’t kill your feet are ideal while in the winter ankle boots go with everything and can even be pulled out once autumn rolls around. Dabble in last season It’s so easy to adopt a piece that was huge last […]

5 Ways Accessories Can Update Your Outfit

Are you sick and tired of wearing the same clothes day in and day out? No, you don’t need a brand new wardrobe. Sometimes you can simply jazz up your outfits to appear trendy and smart. With the help of the right accessories, even the most boring wardrobe can be miraculously transformed. Here are five tips on how you can do that.   1. Enhance Your Bright Outfits It is a misconception that accessories are not required with bright coloured dresses. In fact, accessories can add that extra ‘oomph’ to any dress. However, if it’s a bright dress, go for accessories with a minimalist approach. A slinky chain or bracelet or sleek earrings can make the look very sophisticated.    2. Try to Accessorise Neutral Colours Neutral colours are present in everyone`s wardrobe. Colours like brown, olive, black, white and navy give you the ideal opportunity to accessorise. Play with colours when you opt for neutral coloured dresses. A Little Black Dress (LBD) is a versatile piece which is apt for a dinner date, party or an enjoyable evening with friends. Accessories can change a plain LBD into a dramatic head-turning outfit. Pair the LBD with statement earrings, chunky jewellery or a stylish watch. Ensure that you do not overdo the look though! Select a scarf with bold prints for a lively look or a knitted scarf for a chilly day. Add a bit of drama to your look with skinny or wide belts. Contrasting colours will make your look much more interesting. For a white dress or light coloured dress, choose a multi-coloured necklace or earrings for a trendy look. An orange or yellow coloured scarf can add life to an olive coloured dress. Spice things up a bit with items from your wardrobe. Put on a bold necklace […]

Occasion Wear: 6 Trends To Try This Summer

As we’re now officially in wedding season, we have no doubt that you have no shortage of weddings to attend. Naturally you’ll want to look your best, but with so many great trends to experiment with, the question is “what to wear?”. Here’s a brief roundup of the latest occasion wear trends, which you can use to help you narrow down your options as you embark on shopping for head-turning outfits… 2017 is all about the dress Over the past few years, it has been two-piece outfits that have dominated the occasion wear sector. This year, without a doubt, is all about dresses. Most retailers’ 2017 collections include very few suits. Just click here and you will immediately see what we mean. However, that does not mean that you cannot achieve a two-piece look. All you need to do is to add a jacket. There are plenty of dresses out there that come with cute matching jackets. Overlay dresses For  spring/summer weddings, a nice overlay dress is a great option. They are typically made out of a tight fitting under-layer made out of a solid fabric which is overlaid with a lightweight, partially transparent fabric like lace. Beautiful body-con dresses Quite a few of us feel a little self-conscious about our figures, which is why it is especially nice to see retailers stocking more body-con dresses. Wearing one helps to flatten out the bulges, which gives you a smoother and slightly slimmer silhouette. This year, they are available in a range of styles, so it is far easier than it used to be to find exactly the right one for you. There is no longer any need to compromise on style. Sophisticated maxi dresses This season, maxi-dresses are less boho and more classic, with sophisticated lace maxi dresses being the most […]

Say Goodbye To Ill-Fitting Clothes With EyeFitU!

Can you imagine a world without online shopping? Nope, we can’t either. And while we do remember the times when scouring the internet for all our new season must-haves from the comfort of our sofa or spontaneously treating ourselves on payday during our lunch break to the cute peep-toes we’ve had our eye on all month didn’t exist, the thought of no longer having such a luxury literally fills us with dread. But while the innovation of online shopping has so many positives, it doesn’t come without it’s negatives too, namely all too often having to return an item because alas it doesn’t fit. To avoid such disappointments we have to purchase two different sizes and return the ill-fitting item, which really isn’t ideal, because what should have been a straight forward purchase ends up being more time consuming than you’d intended. However thanks to EyeFitU (a new app that promises no more sizing woes) this online shopping dilemma will soon be history. How is this possible we hear you cry! Well, EyeFitU has partnered with tons of retailers and brands to revolutionise the way we shop and best of all it’s super easy to use. Just download the app, create a profile, answer a few questions and if you prefer enter up to 12 specific measurements or if you’re pushed for time just provide your quick measurements enter your exact measurements, and start shopping for clothing suited to you. We’ve tried it and we’re pleased to report, it’s a godsend. As we’re on the tall side and find it really hard to find jeans and maxi dresses that fit, the app saves the hassle of having to individually check the product details for every item we’re coveting. Best of all as the app is used more frequently, the smarter […]

Introducing Cecile Reinaud Founder Of Global Maternity Brand Séraphine

Hailed as Kate Middleton’s “favourite maternity label”, global maternity wear brand Seraphine is adored by celebrities such as Jessica Alba, Mila Kunis, Angelina Jolie and many more famous fans who can’t get enough of it’s luxe maternity wear for all occasions. With a flagship store in London and New York and expansions to Dubai and China in the works.  the brand is growing from strength to strength and shows no signs of slowing down. We spoke to it’s founder –  businesswoman, designer and mother Cecile Reinaud to find out more about the brains behind it’s success.. What’s a typical working day like for you? To be honest, I don’t really have a typical working day – every day looks different. I travel a lot for work, especially to visit our international maternity stores in New York and Dubai. And even when I’m at the office in London there’s never a dull moment – I meet with clients and suppliers, catch up with my team, I do interviews with journalists, there’s the new season’s collection to think about… But that’s what I love about my job – it always keeps me on my toes! Most enjoyable and challenging aspect of your job? I’d say the most enjoyable aspects of my job are the times when I get to see all of our hard work paying off. It’s always exciting to see celebrities wearing our maternity clothes – we’ve dressed everyone from rock stars like Gwen Stefani and Shakira, to royalty including all three Princesses of Sweden! I’ll never forget the moment I first saw The Duchess of Cambridge looking beautiful in our Fuchsia Knot Front Dress in the first official pictures with Prince George. And last year I was invited to Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen after Seraphine won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise – that was one […]

Editor’s Picks: Yeezy Season 2 And More Must-Haves!

Oh the joy of Mondays! While many dread Mondays, I truthfully don’t mind them so much. Of course, I love Fridays the most (who doesn’t?) but Monday’s present a fresh new start to go harder and be better. Best of all, I reserve Monday’s to scour through my fave online stores for the hottest products to feature in upcoming posts. Possibly the best part of my job…I enjoy nothing more than sitting with a hot cup of coffee and lusting over must-haves. *sigh*.  There are way too many amazing products out there and not enough features so I’ve compiled a few of my favourites for this week’s top buys. Enjoy! While it’s no secret that I’m not a fan of Kanye’s clothing. The same doesn’t go for his shoes. Yes, he makes the odd error here and there, but on the whole, he’s got a gift when it comes to footwear. These pre-fall knitted over the knee peep toes are a great investment for the season ahead. You can never be over or under dressed in a great maxi dress. They’re a lifesaver when it comes to that nerve racking hunt of finding what to wear to any upcoming event, whether it’s a wedding or a BBQ and you can’t go wrong adding this romantic Topshop floral maxi dress to your wardrobe.   With the sun set to make a permanent appearance (yay!), it’s absolutely essentials to have an arsenal of stylish sandals and there are tons of really great options out there. I love this classic ankle strapped style from Pikolinos who have a great selection of women’s sandals this season. Not only are they comfy and perfect for the summer season but if you’ve got any holidays planned, it’ll make the ideal travel companion too. These days nearly every celeb […]

Get Gwyneth Paltrow’s Striking Hot Valentino Look

Every so often we spot a celeb in a stunning red outfit and wonder why we don’t have more red items in our wardrobes. We literally obsessed over the red jumpsuit Kim K wore during her trip in Armenia and most recently Gwyneth Paltrow took our breath away in a strapless floor length gown courtesy of Valentino while attending the couture show in Paris, thus cementing our view that it’s crucial to own a sizzling red dress or jumpsuit for those moments when turning heads is the only option. If you’re in love with Gwyneth’s outfit as much as we are, get a (close enough) look in this simple and stylish red AQ/AQ maxi dress…   And here’s some more must-haves worth splashing out on….

Why Not Rebel Against These 5 Wedding Traditions?

Remember when Gwen Stefani wore that breath-taking silk dip-dyed pink Dior wedding dress by the genius that is John Galliano? It was fantastic and we loved the fact that she personalised her big day rather than stick to the norm. Seeing as we’re all for breaking the rules here at MFL, we’ve compiled a short but sweet list of five ways you too can go against tradition on your wedding day. 1. Opt for non-traditional bridesmaid dresses and go all black. According to retailer, Coast, the most popular bridesmaid dresses after purple, is black and grey. Yes it seems a tad morbid, we agree, but with the right accessories, it could be quite vintage-glam. Coast has a gorgeous selection of options. We love this lace maxi dress (pictured above). 2. Have the groomsmen catch the bouquet! You might be hard pushed to convince a group of men to stand around and grab a bunch of flowers all in the hope of being next in the running to tie the knot. In fact, chances are they may not even attempt to make the catch. But, if you’re successful in your endeavour, it’ll add a bit of fun to your big day and it’s sure to be a talking point amongst the guests!  3. Pull a Zoe Saldana and have your hubby take your last name. Quite controversial we know….and admittedly Marco Perego-Saldana came under fire for his decision. But, we think it’s very sweet, and so did Zoe, this is what actress had to say to those who frowned upon their choice. “Fathers, sons, brothers, men everywhere: Your legacy will not perish if you take your partner’s surname, or she keeps hers. I’ve been made aware that a comment I made regarding my marriage has garnered some attention. I felt proud that my husband decided […]

Holiday Fashion brought to you by Jane Norman. No matter where we head this summer, there are a few items that we just can’t live without when we head for our holidays. Versatile, flattering, and of course, on trend, here’s a quick guide to the holiday essentials we always make room for. Pack Your Patterned Trousers Versatile and chic, patterned trousers are having yet another moment. Especially good for those first few nights when you’re not quite ready to bare your legs, we think this trend makes for a staple vacay item. A lightweight jogger is perfect for a city trip, and just what you need if you’re exploring the temples of Thailand or Cambodia where more than a flash of tanned ankle will raise a few eyebrows. For the evening, a palazzo pant will help you bring a touch of timeless glamour to your look. Dress them up with a block heel or keep them casual but classy with an embellished flat. Carry On Cute Co-ords  Step away from your playsuit and leave the all-in-ones at home, co-ord sets are where it’s at this year (and they’re a damn sight easier to nip to the loo in, too). Wear them as statement separates or bring them together for matchy-matchy cool, taking a set of co-ords on holiday gives you a whole host of options to choose from when you’re  in a hurry. Our favourites come in novelty print as seen on plenty of Spring/Summer runways this year. Don’t Forget Your Maxi Hardly surprising, but always worth a mention, a good maxi dress is something that we take with us every time we leave the country. The great thing about the maxi dress is that there really is […]

A touch of Klass! Our favourite pieces from the Myleene Klass & Littlewoods collaboration

As the long lenses, catwalks and flashbulbs were packed away to close another Paris Fashion Week, one face will be appearing more than most in the highlights. Myleene Klass, the reality TV star turned top-rated fashion designer, has hosted CNN’s coverage of the event, DJ’ed at the swankiest parties and promoted her latest clothing line for fashion outlet Littlewoods. Who could have thought that Klass, one of the few reality contestants to break into mainstream success, would become one of the most talked about fashionistas of her time? Speaking to Littlewoods, Klass said, “I could never have dreamt any of this. The last time I had my name in my clothes, it was my school uniform. “Now my name is on my own range and hanging in women’s wardrobes around the world. How could you dare to dream that up?!” How has she become such a wide-reaching success in the industry? Partly thanks to her keen eye for unique but affordable designs, and partly thanks to the specific looks she’s tailored to suit her hourglass frame. Her designs have merged the two elements that have made her famous – a sense of effortless style combined with a complete lack of pretension. Here are a few of our favourite designs – and they’re all top of the Klass! Rose print prom dress Klass has always had a penchant for 50s’ designs and patterns, and this rose print prom dress epitomises her love for the era. These bright floral patterns are the perfect way to combat the autumnal blues of the season, with the cheerful colours contrasting perfectly with the dress’s black background. Draping over your body with ease, it’s ideal for looking casual but classy at a party. PU mini dress Offering a spot of minimalist 60s’ kitsch, this PU mini […]

Naomi Campbell is wildness personified in Gucci

Naomi Campbell is pretty fierce at the best of times, but she was wildness personified at the 25th annual GLAAD Media Awards which took place in Beverley Hills on Sunday night. The fearless (and often fearsome – we’ve all watched The Face!) supermodel wowed in a custom halter-neck animal print Gucci dress, which was as just as fierce as it was feminine. The floaty, girlie fabric of the chiffon maxi dress was juxtaposed brilliantly with the leather detailing found on the neck and waist, and Naomi’s large and in charge hair ‘do and sultry black eye make-up added even more edginess to the ensemble. We love how she kept the rest of her accessories to a minimum, save for some attention-grabbing gold earrings and a few rings on her fingers for good measure.

Fashion with a conscience: essential items

Once upon a time, fashionistas used to don their fur jackets and rock angora wool jumpers without giving a second thought to where their garments came from. Thankfully, 2014 tells a different story, with an increasing number of us choosing the eco-friendly option at the store. In the past, opting for the eco-friendly option used to mean compromising on style. However, with the likes of Angelina Jolie and Anne Hathaway advocating the switch, this couldn’t be further from the truth. In this post, we’ll be taking a look at some of our favourite environmentally friendly items. H&M Conscious and Conscious Exclusive High street brand H&M have recently released information about their H&M Conscious and Conscious Exclusive collection. Due for release online and in-store on April 10th, the collection is created from sustainable materials. This isn’t the first environmentally friendly collection that H&M have released, but it is the first to make use of organic leather and silk. The collection is populated with exquisite stand-out pieces that will ensure you make a statement: our favourite is the show-stopping lace overlay dipped hem maxi dress. Indian Paisley Shawl Making the transition from spring to summer can be difficult, especially when the temperatures drop during the evening. Ethical retailer Traidcraft has the answer with their gorgeous Indian paisley shawl. The exquisite print of the hand woven shawl makes it the perfect addition to any ensemble. You can even find out about the Fair Trade producer who manufactured it, so you know exactly where your fashion choices come from. As you can see, choosing ethically produced products doesn’t always mean losing your distinctive style. In fact, make the right choices and you can create a statement look with just a few items. However, make the wrong choices, and you risk looking like Lady Gaga, […]

Katie Eary for River Island launching next year

There’s been a bit of a Rihanna-shaped hole in our hearts ever since the Bajan songstress unveiled her last collection for River Island, but now the high street store is doing its bit to make sure we are sartorially satisfied by introducing a new collaboration. Ladies and gents, we give you the Katie Eary for River Island collection – and it’s heading to stores a lot sooner than you might expect. The Royal College of Art graduate has previously worked with Kanye West (and made it out alive!) and also runs her own eponymous label. “River Island connects to the cool type of women which suits my project; all those independent, sexy, powerful women who frequent River Island,” the designer said. “Naturally, I thought that we were a perfect match.” So what was she inspired by for her debut collection with River Island? Hunter S Thompson’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas apparently, which explains the vibrant colours and patterns. “My starting point was Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Except in my story it wasn’t Johnny Depp, it was my muse (the strong woman) on a crazy hallucinatory journey through the desert.  I then went on to design looks for her while she was on this journey. It all became very Tribal Dipped in Gold.” Sounds exciting! The 18-piece collection – which includes everything from t-shirts, shorts, maxi dresses, swimwear, fringed bags and more – will land in stores on February 17th, with prices ranging from £15 to £120. She may have been in the bottom two of the X Factor last night, but rewind to last week and she was all we could talk about in the My Fashion Life office. We pretty much accepted that we could never get our hands on anything so sparkly and fabulous… until we learnt that it came from none other than River Island and we too could slip into the sequined delight with just a little over £100. It will only set you back £125, and will answer all your Christmas party ensemble prayers. You’ll be the belle of the ball! London Fashion Week SS14 Day 5 highlights

London Fashion Week may be over for another season, leaving us dreaming about next summer, but it’s onto Milan and Paris! So, to keep the London style spirit alive a little bit longer, here are our highlights from the final day of fashion fun: Thomas Tait Practicality is never lost on some in the fashion world, and CSM-trained designer Thomas Tait is one who never leaves behind is original vision. Although the colours on the runway for next season have served as palate cleansers, Tait’s angelic whites were too luminous to miss. Clean, fluid dresses, tank tops boxy jackets and were crossed with carefully positioned embellishments in the form of vividly coloured panels and wisps of feathers, but the originality of his hard working aesthetic, those any- weather-tackling, utilitarian jackets was not lost. Tait fans were surely not disappointed. Ong-Oaj Paraim Another one to watch from budding pool of emerging fashion talent this season, we loved Ong-Oaj Pairam’s debut offerings – inspired by Gertie, from Stephen Spielberg’s blockbuster,  E.T. – at Fashion Scout. Vague imprints of yolk-centred flowers were sprayed across billowing maxi dresses, while the flowers came to life in 3D form on a patent white skirt. A patent-sleeved cropped jacket with metallic checker board body was paired with leather shorts in a foamy cappuccino hue, and hair was coiffed to the tune of tea dress swishing, fashion-loving, Fifties housewife. Cinched waists were high on the agenda, with plenty of belting and body contouring dresses to boots, and a broken down Chinese calligraphic-style print in red and blue, neatly ruled out on a sheer collared shirt and high-waisted shorts. A fantastic introduction to his vision and style ability, this ex-Proenza Schouler assistant is sure to stay on our runway radar. Simone Rocha She’s fast climbed the ranks to become one […]

Karlie Kloss does ‘effortless cool’ in Coach

Karlie Kloss took our breath away when she stepped out onto the respective DKNY and Carolina Herrera catwalks during New York Fashion Week, but it’s not just her runway looks that are inspiring us. The 21-year-old beauty proved that she is just as gorgeous off the catwalk as she is on it, as she looked positively glowing minding her own business in New York’s West Village. She floated down the street in an effortless blue maxi dress, cute matching sandals, and an oversized leather Coach Marobox Borough bag that is definitely on our current arm candy wishlist. We probably would team ours with something more autumnal though as we think our days of maxi dresses in London are numbered for this year. And don’t be surprised to see Karlie in a lot more Coach as the weeks and months go on, as the brand revealed on Instagram that she is the face and body of its autumn/winter 2013 ad campaign, so watch this space! Six style tips for summer and beyond

We love summer! The summer months are always packed with invitations to fun events and it’s a great time to show off your summer wardrobe. Getting your summer style right can be tricky so we’ve enlisted the help of our favourite chic celebrity Nadia Sawalha. Here’s Nadia’s 6 tips to help you get your get your chic on this summer 1. It’s in your jeans Jeans really are a woman’s best friend. We’re spoilt for choice when it comes to colours and styles however this can also make it very confusing when it comes to picking the perfect pair of jeans. The key to jean success? Find a pair of jeans that you feel good in and you’ll look good too. Nadia advocates trying out plenty before settling on a pair that flatters your figure. 2. Shape up with shapewear Nadia calls it her ‘naughty little secret’ and it’s ours too….with dresses and skirts likely to feature highly in your summer wardrobe, shapewear is terrific to help you achieve a smooth silhouette! Invest in shapewear, you won’t regret it. 3. It’s all in the detail We’ve heard it many times before but you can’t ignore the influence of accessories. Small touches of colour can liven up a plain outfit. Add scarf to your maxi dress or an old favourite dress or top to inject life into your outfit. 4. Wedges are the way forward Yes it’s true. While heels are our secret weapon in our bid to add a few inches to our height, this summer why not ditch the stilettos for some low wedges. Not only do they look great when paired with shorts they’re also super comfortable and they make your legs look slender. 5. Have fun with necklines Necklines and straplines are likely to play a prominent […]

Holly Willoughby is a real life Barbie at ITV summer party

If you ever wondered what a grown up real life Barbie would look like on a hot summer’s day, may we refer you to this picture of Holly Willoughby? The breastily-blessed (erm, that’s definitely a word and not something we just made up, honest!) TV presenter rocked up to the ITV summer party in West London yesterday, looking like a blonde bombshell and Barbie all rolled into one. The hot pink colour of her gorgeous maxi dress was perfect for the sunshine that London is currently gifted with, and it offset her golden tan and blonde hair perfectly. Even though we an tell she chose her black accessories to complement the black beading detail at the top of her dress, we think they taint the summery vibe of the rest of her outfit, and would have preferred some nude or white coloured ones instead. However, shoes and handbag aside, Holly was summer-party-perfect! [Image]

Going to Ibiza for your hols? Here are 5 picks for your suitcase

Off to Ibiza this summer? The excitement might make you a teeny bit forgetful (we know we forget important things when we’re a little bit giddy) so we’ve compiled a list of Ibiza essentials for you to check off as you pack. As well as your obvious items, i.e. passport, sun cream, sun hat, camera, beach towel etc, here are five items we definitely don’t think you should board the plane without: 1. – Bright clothes aren’t always advised for the gloomy London weather (and standing out isn’t always desired when you’re minding you own business on the tube), but the rules totally change when it comes to your holiday! Go colour crazy in this maxi! Misumi multicoloured maxi dress, £19.99 2. – We know you’ve been waiting for months and months to slip into a new bikini, so we have a feeling it will be one of the first things you pack. We love this studded beauty from Topshop – it’ll make you stand out on a crowded beach, and also offset your tan beautifully. Topshop lime studded triangle bikini, £28. 3. – As much as we love a good pair of heels, we think summer holidays should be about giving your feet a rest along with the rest of your body, so taking a good pair of flats with you is vital. Luckily you don’t need to compromise on glamour with these gorgeous embellished sandals from Dorothy Perkins – talk about Greek goddess! Dorothy Perkins nude heavy embellished sandals, Was £35, Now £22 4. – Don’t be tempted to buy cheap knock-off sunglasses for your holidays for fear of breaking or losing them – protecting your eyes from the sun’s harmful rays should be a priority regardless of the price. The fact that these designer sunnies are chic and […]

Fausto Puglisi’s debut Emanuel Ungaro Resort collection

Fausto Puglisi’s first Resort collection for Emanuel Ungaro was always going to be an interesting one; the highly-anticipated show wasn’t quite what we – or anyone else for that matter – were expecting though. It was an infusion of sleek meets street meets chic meets urban. Or to use Fausto Puglisi’s exact phrasing, “to eat a hamburger wearing a Harry Winston ring.” Hmm. Some might argue that there was a bit too much going on for it to make any kind of impact, but others (us included) will have enjoyed the experimental direction he took the collection in. It had the sharpness of a Victoria Beckham collection, the print of a Marni offering, and the sleek colour infusion of a classic Diane von Furstenberg catwalk outing… all with an original Emanuel Ungaro twist! Some of our favourite looks that were pulled together included a coral and purple dungaree dress teamed with a polka-dotted top, some printed high waisted palazzo pants teamed with a pastel pretty long-sleeved top and a monochrome floral maxi dress. What do you think of the collection? Too much? Not enough? [Images]

Look Good for Less This Summer

Jetting off abroad is expensive in itself, but for many women what is packed into your suitcase is definitely as important as the destination and accommodation choices you make. With so much money being spent on your flights, food and excursions, ensuring you look as great as possible for as little cost as possible is the main aim for many. Creating a capsule wardrobe is one way of lowering the price of your suitcase style. Maxi dresses are ideal for this. Thrown over your swimwear during the day as a cover up they are easy to wear and casually cool for the midday heats, yet they can be effortlessly turned into a stunning evening wear for getaway glam. Pick up some great value maxi dresses at George from ASDA, and while you’re there take a look at their accessories selection. Bangles, necklaces and drop earrings are a quick and effective way of injecting that evening feel into your outfit, while jewel adorned flats add a touch of sparkle to your style for after sundown. The catwalks have been kind to us this season, with SS13 trends focussing on brights and whites. Try not to combine the two. White shades should be worn in blocks – ideal for keeping the heat at bay while you’re away. Thankfully, key items can be picked up at quite a good price too. Choose basic white skirts and shorts, and team these with vest tops and camis for on trend, cost efficient outfits. As with maxi dresses the ‘iridescent’ key trend is also easy to transform from day to night. While these materials often speak for themselves during the day, and create quite a classy but bold image, adding sealife shades to your outfit for the evening will pack some punch into your look. Opt […]

Midweek Moodboard: Peach

Ever the trend-setter, Kate Middleton got us lusting after all things peach yesterday after we saw her arrive at the Queen’s 60th Coronation Celebration in a gorgeous peach Jenny Packham number. The Duchess of Cambridge may be actual royalty, but Kylie Minogue is pop royalty (she has rightfully earned that status!) so it comes as no surprise to see her rock the shade too! Kylie ruled the red carpet in a cute peach Moschino dress at last night’s Glamour Women of the Year Awards in London, and now it’s time for us to get in on the peach action too! After all, if it’s good enough for our future Queen and a pop Princess… Take a look at some perfect peach pieces currently up for grabs: Frill shell top, £22, available at Dorothy Perkins Dippy tee, £24, available at Miss Selfridge Snake faux leather clutch, $45, Expressions NYC available at Nordstrom Bracelet, £9.60, Fresh Cargo available at Simply Be Skinny jeans, £190, 7 For All Mankind available at Harvey Nichols Lace detail dress, £26, available at Glamorous Chiffon maxi dress, £59.99, Quiz available at Debenhams

Nicole Scherzinger vs. Louise Roe: Who wore Mara Hoffman better?

Ah, the arrival of summer can only mean a flurry of envy-inducing, bod-hugging dresses that leave us wondering why we cancelled that gym membership. But then again, we could just forget about the ab crunches and instead talk about this week’s ensuing fash-off between two dress doyennes. In the battle of the dresses this week, both Nicole Scherzinger and Louise Roe took a liking to the Mara Hoffman shield print maxi dress, and gave us two very stylish looks. Scherzy stepped out in the Mara Hoffman maxi in Monaco, to support beau Lewis Hamilton at the 2013 Monaco Grand Prix. Making the most of the glorious sunshine, Nicole styled the dress with studded flat sandals, oversized sunnies and a classic Hermès Kelly bag. Beating Hamilton’s missus to it was Louise Roe, who sported the very same dress to the Rolling Stone magazine American Music Awards VIP after party, back in November 2012. Bringing a splash of print to the red carpet, Ms. Roe styled her look with a nude box clutch and statement earrings. But whose look takes the prize? Although both ladies styled the shield print maxi dress to perfection for the events they were attending; we’re giving this week’s fash-off champ title to…Nicole Scherzinger! We’re a little sensitive to the wintry climes at present, and anything that reminds us of an easy, breezy holiday wardrobe is a winner. Nicole’s look is perfect for a sun splashed outdoor event, and although Louise looked fab, too, the pretty print and summery colour is wasted on the red carpet. Do you agree? Rihanna for River Island, take two: Here’s what we really think!

After enticing Ri-wannabe’s with her debut collection for River Island, the queen of everything is back with more fashion to feed our sartorial souls. Following her hotly anticipated London Fashion Week show, Rihanna’s summer collection for high street giant, River Island finally landed in stores and online on May 25, and after sizing up the fashion credentials of the superstar’s wares, we naturally weighed in with our own opinion. Celebrity-retail giant collaborations are often a frightening matter, with more questions circulating through the fashion press than pieces in the collection itself: did she/he design it? Is it a touch-and-go type of thing? It is even a real depiction of the celebrity in question? But Rihanna, a star in the off-stage style stakes without a doubt, knows a thing or two about constructing a dress to perfectly show of her envious bod, or how cropped a crop top should really be, in order to show the extent of work she’s putting in at the gym. Returning to the real stuff, the summer collection is a mix of staple pieces we often see the Bajan beauty sporting, punctuated with splashes of print, statement embellishment and jolts of colour. The collection really is the epitome of summer, with a lack of longer hemlines (probably owing to Rihanna’s love of flesh flashing), and nearly everything is either sheer, or sports a slit or a spindly strap. Much of the collection harks back to some iconic looks worn by Rihanna, which have now become a recognisable part of her signature style. Take the floral boys shorts, for example, which take us back Ri’s Alexander Wang leather shorts and tee look at the Battleship photo call in Sydney. Or the black stiletto sandals from the collection, which are reminiscent of Rihanna’s love affair with the Manolo […]

[noskim] If you’re a shrinking violet fond of muted tones and understated designs, it’s time to break out and embrace a new world of bold, bright, statement pieces. This year is all about confident, sassy styles, so read on. Headgear Protect your precious skin and conceal those tresses with a chic, wide-brimmed hat. Choose an oversized, floppy straw hat and you’ll be right on trend. Sunglasses There are a million and one styles to choose from – this summer why not try mirrored aviators, 1960s style retro frames, coloured or floral rims? Beachwear and swimwear Three cheers for the one-piece – it’s back and it suits just about any figure. The bandeau is also big this summer and is great for smaller-busted women. Choose a swimsuit in a block colour, floral or tropical print, then fling on a floaty, sheer kaftan with an embellished neckline for a spot of glamour and tuck your beach belongings into a trendy tote. Statement dress The maxi dress is here to stay, which is good news as no holiday wardrobe is complete without one. Elegant and versatile, a simple maxi dress is ideal for everything from beachside lounging and daytime outings, to sunset strolls and cocktail quaffing. Sweeping fabrics, bold colours and floral prints scream femininity and style. Sundress A cotton sundress is a must for any summer holiday and is sure to have you looking and feeling cool. Stripes are everywhere this season and never go out of fashion, so invest in a nautical striped sundress and you’re likely to wear it year after year. Playsuit A great alternative to dresses, playsuits are fun and stylish. Throw one over your bikini or swimsuit for a touch of poolside pizzazz. Shorts Present those pins in a pair of super-short shorts. They’ll be useful on […]

Get Miley Cyrus’s stripy ASOS look

After spending two days in complete and utter awe at all the priceless gowns that glided along the red carpet at the Oscars on Sunday night (and the respective Vanity Fair and Elton John after parties – more on these later), it’s nice to come back down to earth with some affordable fashion. Despite looking good enough to eat in a white Azzaro dress at Elton John’s after party on Sunday night, Miley Cyrus showed that she can look just as good while dressed down in high street clobber too. Better still, we know exactly where her monochrome maxi dress came from – it’s from ASOS, it’s in stock, it’s affordable, it’s gorgeous – and it can be yours! You could go for the blue version if you wanted something more cheerful for the spring, but Miley is walking proof that the monochrome version is a winner! London Fashion Week AW13: Highlights from Day 2

Despite being a little worse for wear, we were up bright and early for the second day of London Fashion Week – we weren’t going to miss the 9am DAKS show for the world! And boy are we glad we got out of bed for it! Day 2 was pretty packed, with autumn/winter 2013 collections from the likes of Julien Macdonald, House of Holland, Carlotta Actis Barone, Issa, and the highly anticipated Rihanna for River Island (among others) all making their debut. It was another successful day for celeb-spotting too, with the likes of Pixie Lott and all five members of The Saturdays showing their support on the Julien Macdonald front row, but the prize for most star-studded FROW definitely went to the one and only Bajan pop princess known as Rihanna. Even Cara Delevingne – who is usually on the catwalk herself – had the night off and enjoyed the show from her seat. Let’s crack on with the highlights, shall we? DAKS A strong and contemporary collection comprised of loose, layered, relaxed and tailored pieces. Lots of sleeveless numbers for all you sleeve-phobics, and a few leather pieces to grunge it up. Two pieces which stole the show for us were the tailored black jumpsuit, and the gold cropped vest top. Simply stunning. Carlotta Actis Barone  One of our most anticipated shows of the day – mainly because we got an epic performance from some ballet dancers during the show last season so we were expecting great things. There were no musical interludes this time around, but that didn’t mean we didn’t enjoy the show. Au contraire, the designer presented a much more muted and understated collection this season, with a high selection of instantly wearable pieces for both day and night. What it lacked in varied colour […]

Rock ‘n’ Rolling Stone!

[noskim] Joss Stone leapt back into the public spotlight this year with all the energy and charm that greeted her arrival on the music scene back in 2003. A staunch Devonian – despite spending her early years in Dover, Kent – she carries with her a laid-back and effortless approach to fashion, just as she does to music, whether she’s decorated in one of her trademark floral maxi dresses or something a little more revealing. The secret, it seems, for the 25-year-old, is to try her hardest at whatever she does. “Like everything in life, it’s important to try,” she begins. “I care about what I wear, in the same way I care about my music, or my charity projects, but in everything the aim is always to make myself feel as if I’ve invested everything I can in it. And that doesn’t always come easily – sure, it is hard to change things, but to not try is worse.” Never has that been truer than in relation to the singer’s current music project – a re-recording of ‘Take Good Care’, co-written by Sunday Times war photographer Paul Conroy, and performed with former Eurythmics star Dave Stewart. The collaboration was in support of the Amnesty International Campaign on the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty. “This is a subject that has always been important to me,” Joss continues. “If I can add something to the campaign that makes people sit up and take note, then that’s good enough for me.” And when you’re talking about someone who perfects the idea of looking good without appearing to have tried too hard, it’s clear the multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning performer can turn heads. “Fashion changes quickly but there will always be constants. I love floral stuff, love dresses that glide you along – I think […]
