Floodgates of flab, or fab? Kim Kardashian’s bikini flaunting is a welcome move

Having endured weeks of outfit slating during her highly-documented pregnancy, being Kim Kardashian couldn’t have been easy over the last few months. An unflattering dress here, a hem too short there; fashion critics haven’t been kind, and neither have the shutterbugs. So when pictures emerged of Kim Kardashian baring her pregnancy bump in this week’s Us Weekly magazine, wearing only a bikini whilst holidaying in Greece, many a critical trap was shut tight. The 32-year-old looked beyond stunning, embracing her beautiful curves and carelessly frolicking on the beach en famille. Not so fat now, is she? Although we won’t agree with her hand-concealing antics at the Met Ball on Monday night, we’re wholly behind the pregnant beach babe look; because KK totally, and we mean totally rocked it! Although she’s calmed down the daily gym visits, as any expectant mother naturally would, her stretch-mark free figure, glowing skin and healthy new curves go right against the media-fuelled rumours of severe unhappiness and discomfort with growing Kim was supposedly suffering from. Could this be a massively liberating leap forward, not just for Kim, but for the entire maternity fraternity? Hitting the beach in a bikini, heavily pregnant, may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but could a move so refreshing by one of the most photographed women in the world prove encouraging for mere mortals like us to let the sand fill the gaps between our toes, while we spend four out of nine months not being able to see them? Kim’s pre-pregnancy shape reflected that of a much wider population; one that doesn’t idolise Victoria’s Secret model levels of skinny, so her pregnant self is clearly the ‘normal’ version we’d like to see of any woman, famous or not. Although most pictures of Kim in the public domain appear willingly, […]

Kate Moss is “wearing the ultimate tan” as first face and body of St. Tropez

Are there still quite a few months until your beach holiday? Or are you giving your summer vacay a miss this year to save money? Either way, we know that you want a tan and you want it now, and we reckon the best way to go about it is to fake it with a healthy dose of St. Tropez. And getting a golden glow has been made more fashionable than ever, as St. Tropez has tapped the one and only Kate Moss to be its first face and body of the brand. “I’m so excited to be working with St.Tropez,” Kate said in a press release. “I’ve been using the products since they started and it’s a really trustworthy, cool brand. I always feel more confident with a St.Tropez tan!” “Kate epitomises St.Tropez’s naturally glamorous approach to self-tanning and is a long-time advocate of the brand,” said spokesperson Michelle Feeney. “Kate’s fashion icon status is important to us but now her growing number of beauty campaigns proves that her appeal as a beauty icon resonates with confident women across all age groups globally. Not only is she beautiful but she has this amazing attitude. St.Tropez is about confidence.” What do you think of the pictures of Kate “wearing the ultimate tan”? [Images]

Fashion Charts: 5 things going up, and 5 things going down this month

Going up Punk fever: The punk revival was well and truly felt at this year’s Met Ball, with added thanks to Miley Cyrus’s outlandish barnet and Madonna’s flesh flashing shenanigans. But will it last? We hope the magical era is here to stay for good, so we can break fashion rules and paint our (not so flat) stomachs with anti-gun slogans. Check out our Punk inspo moodboard for your fix. Gatsby fever: Taking a detour from crazy hair and garish outfits, the other era the fashion world is currently dabbling in is the Roaring Twenties. With Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby set for release next week in the UK, expect a rise in opulent hair accessories, art deco prints and more flapper dresses you can shake a jazz dance move at! Shop our top Gatsby-inspired pieces here. Festival kick off: Although the major headliners are taking place smack bang in the middle of summer, several niche festivals are taking place this month, which can only mean one thing; getting your festival wardrobe into gear. Check out our top 10 picks here. Embellished tees: Luxe tees have been gaining momentum amongst the fash pack for some time now, so when we laid our peepers on the embellished 3.1 Phillip Lim Nueva York tee , we were sold at hello. The new low sandal: Or, dubbed the ‘Elvis’ sandal, thanks to the rhinestone detail; embrace summer’s new take on the gladiator sandal but with a flattering (read: pain-free) heel. Look to Isabel Marant for a high end hit, or Zara and Mango do equally stylish, pocket-friendly versions. Going down Glove sleeves: Come on, Kim! What were you thinking? Dressing to flatter your bump, we understand, is priority, but hand concealing doesn’t really come in to it. Enough said. Winter coats in spring: After experiencing […]

Katy Perry vs. Selena Gomez: Who wore Dolce & Gabbana better?

When we saw the spring/summer 2013 delight that was the Dolce & Gabbana show spill onto the runway, we couldn’t wait to see the A-listers snap up the tropical prints for when the barometer went up. And safe to say, we weren’t disappointed. Style darlings, Selena Gomez and Katy Perry, both opted to put their spin on the same bustier top from the Dolce & Gabbana spring 2013, and both looked equally exotic in their own right! Bieber’s beau was up first, pairing the printed, midriff baring bustier top with a high-waisted orange pencil skirt and nude Giuseppe Zanotti pumps at the 2013 SXSW Music, Film + Interactive Festival premiere for Spring Breakers, back in March. Glossy, side-swept curls, strong eyes and a popping coral lip polished off Selena’s look nicely. Making merry at the Lacoste L!ve 4th annual desert pool party last month was a girl after our own hearts, in the most summer-tastic outfit imaginable! Soaking up the rays at the event, which was held during Coachella, Katy Perry paired the bustier top with a playfully printed skirt from the same collection. White platform shoes, statement earrings, sunnies and a vintage Lulu Guinness bag completed Katy’s look. Now, after digesting so much print and eye-popping colour, we’ve got the tough task of deciding who takes this week’s fash-off champ title. And…Selena Gomez has done it for us this week! Although we absolutely approve of Katy’s all-out take on the Dolce look, those chunky platform heels don’t really do it for us. Selena’s sharp and sleek styling is perfect, not to mention making us squirm thinking about working towards that beach bod! Her minimal accessories won us over, as with Katy’s look, there’s just too much going on. Agree with our fash-off verdict? Who wins for you?

Travel Essentials: What to pack and what not to pack!

mag You’ll probably be off on your jollies within the next few months, and although the prospect of lying on a deck chair in the Mediterranean sun is quite appealing, we know that what comes before – i.e. the dreaded packing and airport madness – is anything but. So we are here to offer a helping hand and virtually assist you with your packing with a list of what to pack and more importantly what to leave behind. Bruised arms and excess baggage airport fines will be a thing of the past! What not to pack: Your finest handbag. We know not toting your favourite designer handbag on holiday might be a tad depressing, but nothing is more depressing than finding out someone has broken in your hotel room and stolen it while you were necking Sambuca shots in the bar downstairs. Or you’ve accidentally got sand in it. Excessive sun also doesn’t do expensive handbags any good either, so leave your fine accessories at home and opt for something cheap and cheerful instead. Your Christian Louboutins. Again, packing the things that you’ve worked months to be able to afford is never a good idea for a holiday where all you want to do is let your hair down and relax. What if the pesky airline loses your luggage? How would you feel about never waking in your fave red-soled beauties again? We can’t bear to even think about it! Hair electrics. Ladies, leave the bulky hair dryers and hair straighteners at home where they belong. The sun will damage and dry out your hair enough without adding heat styling to the mix. Pack a couple of bottles of hair mousse and go for the California beach wave look instead. Your hair will love it, and you can pack a […]

Kate Middleton pretty in peach Tara Jarmon for Children’s Hospice Week

The sun was beaming in Hampshire yesterday, and so was Kate Middleton! The Duchess of Cambridge looked radiant and had that pregnancy glow that you hear so much about as she attended an event in Winchester for Children’s Hospice Week. (She made a video appeal for the cause a few days earlier… click here to refresh your memories.) Kate donned a very season-appropriate peach coat from Tara Jarmon (it retails for £380 should you be tempted to channel the Duchess) for the outing, and teamed it with a lighter peach dress and nude accessories. She wore her hair in slightly more tousled waves than we’re used to seeing, and we’re absolutely loving it. It’s Princess-meets-beach-babe, and as usual, we can’t fault it!

10 summer shorts under £30 to snap up now!

Much like a hefty coat is a winter staple to block out the Siberian chills we tend to experience in Blighty, shorts are an equally important summer staple. Tan-exposing and showing off to perfection all the hard work you’ve put in at the gym getting those uber-toned thighs, shorts in all guises are the go-to piece to pair with a louche tee and sneakers, or a billowing silk blouse and sandals. But what makes this super-versatile wardrobe addition even better, is when you can score a pair for under a not-so-princely £30! Frayed edges, acid washes and pretty embellishments have made our round up of top 10 picks under £30, so let us present to you the shorts you need to be shopping now in preparation for when the sun finally decides to come out of hibernation! £20, Monki: These shorts are called ‘dip-to-die-for’ for very good reason. Perfect for dipping into a trend (pun intended) inexpensively. £22, Asos: We love the festival vibe the beaded fringe detail bring to these shorts. £12.99, TK Maxx: Printed denim is a must-have, and if the print leaves us starry-eyed, were not complaining! £23, Next: You’re guaranteed to go on a style safari in these zebra print shorts. £28, Topshop: Culottes in eyeball-popping pink: a natural win! £28, Dorothy Perkins:  The perfectly embellished option for an evening look, sipping cocktails by the beach. *Sigh* £28, Miss Selfridge: The biggest spring/summer 2013 trend on a budget? Yes please! £25, Boohoo: Sequinned to perfection, we’re calling these our summer disco pants. £25, River Island: The classic summer short, with obligatory frayed hem and light acid wash. £29.99, H&M: The mirror embroidery details gives this pair an ethno-beach babe vibe. Love it!

Get Heidi Klum’s luminous look

On duty or off duty, we can always count on supermodel Heidi Klum to turn heads. And it’s not just because she’s wearing a luminous yellow t-shirt… although we think it might play a small part  on this occasion. Quite understandably we wouldn’t say no to looking like the former Victoria’s Secret Angel… and as we’ve finally accepted that we can’t grow an extra seven inches in height, we’ve decided that copying Heidi’s outfit is the best we’re going to get right now. Better than nothing, right? If you want to channel the Klum-ster, simply add a bright highlighter yellow t-shirt to a skinny pair of blue jeans, add a fitted parka and you’re good to go. Beach waves in your hair are optional, but always encouraged. Here’s what you’ll need to get Heidi’s look for yourselves: Skinny jeans, £50, Only available at Zalando Neon blouse, £110, Splendid available at Atterley Road Textile parka, $295, Elizabeth and James available at Madewell

Image and Insanity: Will the visual torment ever stop?

The ‘selfie’ culture has mostly destroyed all realms of the personal. From self-obsessed celebrities sharing half naked pictures, showing off toned limbs and abs to maximum effect, to the star blogger doing an #ootd (that’s outfit of the day to me and you) and reinforcing the idea that matchstick legs are a prerequisite to carrying off the latest Joseph leather legging purchase with the same panache as the e-tail model they were initially spied on. This week, the oft-discussed and somewhat tiresome issue of image – more specifically weight – has once again flared up with such intensity, that it’s a difficult topic to leave out of regular discussions around doughnuts and tea when the 3pm slump strikes (apologies for the painful irony associated with weight issues being dissected over a greasy yum yum). Most recently, the denizen of image-related controversy and champion of public hatred, Samantha Brick, appeared on This Morning to defend her view that, in order to attain happiness, women must remain on a constant diet to stay thin. Strong, but unsurprising words coming from a woman who declared her sheer beauty being the reason other women were out for her blood. And props to her for being so forthright in voicing her opinion; after all, we do exist in a free-speaking democratic country, right? But does it help that in the same week we have images of an unnaturally thin Abbey Clancy frolicking on a beach shoot in summery smalls, and sharing pictures of her prominent ribcage? Or the fact that there’s concern over Angelina Jolie’s limbs looking increasingly slimmer? Even Beyoncé has banned ‘natural’ photographs from being taken at her shows to prevent being caught off guard and looking normal, we suppose; instead preferring suspiciously perfectly angled shots depicting her in top form – hardly […]

Cara Delevingne helps Jourdan Dunn kick off Season 2 of her cooking show

Jourdan Dunn’s Well Dunn with Jourdan Dunn cooking show is back on our computer screens for a brand new season, and who better to help the model kick off the second season in style than her fellow Brit BFF Cara Delevingne? So what happens in the season two premiere, you ask? Cara – dressed in her newest and cutest onesie, naturally – visits the Well Dunn kitchen to play sous chef, and learns a thing or two about cooking shrimp tempura (including removing the “doo doo” – Jourdan’s word, not ours). The girls also recall the first time they met on a very rocky beach in Brighton (hint: there was “white girl” rapping involved) and discussed being a “modern day wifey”. As you would expect, hilarity ensues… check out the video below to see for yourselves. Anyone else think Sous Chef Cara should be a permanent fixture of the show? http://youtu.be/3nAf-gmYKVs

Check out more pics from Beyonce’s H&M Swimwear campaign!

You didn’t think that one picture was showed you a few week ago was all you were going to get of Beyonce’s H&M campaign, did you? Beyonce’s H&M Swimwear ad campaign has finally been released in full, and we can confirm that every picture gives us something to get excited about. We particularly love that bright yellow bikini below – now we just need to find a beach to wear it on and we’re good to go! And apparently Bey had quite a bit of input in the designs of the pieces, which just makes us want to go out and buy them even more. So where does the singer get style inspiration from, you ask? “I think my style comes from watching my mother from the time I was a little girl,” she said “She was so stylish. She was the first person I saw mix high end pieces with more accessible styles and make it all work. I’m also inspired by my sister, I love her bold approach.” We agree, we love a bit of Solange boldness! [Grazia]

5 spring-to-summer strapless dresses we love!

Unsightly straps can be off-putting, especially when you find THE perfect dress for that impossible-to-shop-for occasion. Strapless dresses are a wardrobe necessity for two important reasons: avoiding tan lines whilst holidaying, and showing off your sculpted (read: not Madonna-like) arms you’ve worked so hard for in the gym! And with the warmer climes fast approaching, (or so we hope), we’ve rounded up the top five strapless dresses that’ll easily see you from spring to summer. And styling a strapless dress couldn’t’ be easier. With the unpredictable weather in Blighty, (yes, we envy you, Coachella-goers!), popping a jacket over your shoulders as a cover up works well, and makes a strapless dress ideal for both work and play. Make a strapless dress boardroom appropriate by wearing it with a sharp tailored blazer, pair with statement heels and clutch for a night on the town, or dress it down for drinks with the girls by slipping into leather jacket. Although we’re patiently waiting for the clouds to clear, so we can show off our strapless dresses in all their glory, prepare by browsing our top picks below and get shopping! The luxe affair: £1,867, available at Net-a-Porter. If you’re looking to splurge on an investment piece for a big occasion, this leopard-print, chiffon Giambattista Valli dress is the perfect purchase for a summer wedding. The High Street hit: £35, available at River Island. No need to dig deep for this dress, we love the cut out detail at the waist and the transitional lemon colour. Geometric glam: £267.54, available at Shopbop. The tri-colour, geometric print is perfect if you’re looking for a statement-making dress, and we love the sweetheart neckline. Classic (S)LBD: £42.99, available at Mango. A fail-safe option, easily dressed down for work with heels and a blazer, or up for a […]

Lunchtime Buy: Floral maxi dress

[noskim] Erm, yes we have looked outside. We know the heavens have opened up and there’s an abundance of rain pouring down London town. We know it, and more devastatingly, our new shoes and freshly blow-dried hair know it. Sob! This is why we’ve decided to sort of tempt fate (and those pesky weathergods) by snapping up a cute floral summery piece from our favourite plus size fashion store – City Chic. After lots of browsing and um-ing and aah-ing, we decided that our hard-earned money is going on this pressed floral maxi dress; we heart the gorgeous flowery print, the sweetheart neckline, the self-tie sash back which cinches in the waist beautifully and the lightly padded bodice for starters. And we love the pleated skirt, as it will make us look taller and slimmer in an instant! It’s perfect to wear to the office on dress-down Fridays when the sun is out – just pair with a cute cropped blazer and some smart sandals and you’re good to go. Alternatively, wear this beauty to a summer picnic with an edgy studded leather or faded denim jacket, or pile on the bangles and add a sparkly bolero and some sky-high heels for a slightly more formal occasion. Your best gal pal’s spring wedding perhaps? Basically, we’re saying that this is a hard-working versatile maxi dress that will see you through the spring/summer season, as the mixing and matching opportunities are practically endless. Or if you’re off on your jollies in the next few months, just whack it in your suitcase and wear it anywhere your heart desires: beach, cocktail bar, club, sight-seeing… the choice is yours! Is Louis Vuitton really promoting prostitution?

I suspect when designers release their seasonal campaigns to match what the fash pack feasted their eyes on during fashion month, they prepare for both a backlash and endless praise. Endless praise from their main advertising buddies, who create bumper issues spilling with lithe models sprawled across a beach, or, if we’re talking about the Dolce duo then ‘real’ Italians having a good time. And naturally, a backlash from those more critical of the brazen approach fashion stories take. One in question this week is the latest video from luxury French fashion house, Louis Vuitton, the collaborative effort of Katie Grand and film maker James Lima (see video below) showcasing the models in runway looks from the autumn/winter 2013 collection. But it isn’t the negligee-inspired outfits that resulted in an outcry, but rather that the actions of the models – many in a state of drunkenness and undress – roaming dingy alleyways and being accosted by suspect, slow moving cars. Accused of glamorising prostitution by a letter in left wing newspaper, Liberation, the short film is charged with “assimilating luxury with the world’s second most profitable criminal activity after drug trafficking”. Now this isn’t surprising, given the industry’s habit of flirting with fire and redirecting often dangerous ideals in a playful, light-hearted way, dressed up in the froufrou of fashion. But such criticism also gives rise to many other aspects of fashion that raise more than a brow. Firstly, Katie Grand is a name synonymous with the alternative and ever so risqué this side of the Channel, and her tome, LOVE, doesn’t strictly abide by pre-watershed rules. With this in mind, the nature of the short film becomes more understandable: Grand pushes normality and ideals to their limits (lip-locking models, a near naked Kate Moss). After all, she is the woman who […]

Hot fashion tips for your summer holiday

[noskim] If you’re a shrinking violet fond of muted tones and understated designs, it’s time to break out and embrace a new world of bold, bright, statement pieces. This year is all about confident, sassy styles, so read on. Headgear Protect your precious skin and conceal those tresses with a chic, wide-brimmed hat. Choose an oversized, floppy straw hat and you’ll be right on trend. Sunglasses There are a million and one styles to choose from – this summer why not try mirrored aviators, 1960s style retro frames, coloured or floral rims? Beachwear and swimwear Three cheers for the one-piece – it’s back and it suits just about any figure. The bandeau is also big this summer and is great for smaller-busted women. Choose a swimsuit in a block colour, floral or tropical print, then fling on a floaty, sheer kaftan with an embellished neckline for a spot of glamour and tuck your beach belongings into a trendy tote. Statement dress The maxi dress is here to stay, which is good news as no holiday wardrobe is complete without one. Elegant and versatile, a simple maxi dress is ideal for everything from beachside lounging and daytime outings, to sunset strolls and cocktail quaffing. Sweeping fabrics, bold colours and floral prints scream femininity and style. Sundress A cotton sundress is a must for any summer holiday and is sure to have you looking and feeling cool. Stripes are everywhere this season and never go out of fashion, so invest in a nautical striped sundress and you’re likely to wear it year after year. Playsuit A great alternative to dresses, playsuits are fun and stylish. Throw one over your bikini or swimsuit for a touch of poolside pizzazz. Shorts Present those pins in a pair of super-short shorts. They’ll be useful on […]

Seven of the hottest spring/summer fashion trends you need to know about

[noskim] It’s a new year and a new fashion season, which inevitably means that there are a whole heap of trends and styles to get to grips with. If you’ve not been able to keep up with the catwalk shows but still want inspiration for your spring/summer 2013 wardrobe, you’re in luck. We’ve rounded up seven of the hottest (and the most wearable) trends of the season: Monochrome Black and white pieces were all over the catwalks in New York and Paris, and the shops will soon be full of monochrome masterpieces. Black and white dresses and other pieces offer instant elegance and sophisticated simplicity, so you won’t need to worry about matching or clashing colours when putting together an outfit. Long may this trend last! Stripes Just as easy to wear as monochrome, stripes in all forms and thicknesses are set to be huge this season. The key to wearing stripes is to use them to flatter your figure, drawing attention to your best bits and concealing others. Bermuda shorts Got a holiday coming up? If so, you mustn’t forget a pair of Bermuda shorts – they’re all you’re going to see on the beach this summer. Peekaboo dresses These are dresses which show off some skin, but there’s no need to rush out for a boob job or have liposuction surgery just yet – the current trend is not overly revealing. The idea is to show off the most minor flash of flesh, and at the narrowest part of the body – the midriff. After all, just the smallest glimpse of skin is far sexier than showing off the whole lot. Pencil skirts Pencil skirts and dresses are universally flattering, so women of all shapes and sizes should be happy that the pencil is back for the season. […]

The most iconic handbags revealed

[noskim] A handbag will make or break your outfit so it’s important to find one that goes with different outfits and looks up to the minute, yet timeless. The Radley handbags will make you look effortlessly stylish and will go with any look you’re aiming for. In their SS13 collection, the British brand proved they lived up to this standard and released some of the best handbags of the year so far! The ambassador and face of Radley, English model Laura Bailey who is known for her Vogue, L’Oreal and Marks & Spencer campaigns, says she likes her handbags to look “timeless chic with a bit of an edge” while also being “practical and stylish.” It doesn’t come as a surprise she chose to continue working with Radley because their collection has, once again, proved to be one of the best lines of iconic handbags this year, ticking all of Bailey’s boxes. Radley are celebrated for their extravagant soft leather bags. So whether you’re looking for shoulder bags, small purses and wallets, work bags or totes, they’ve all got the wow factor! We’ve listed some of their bags that we absolutely love. 1. Radley totes Tote bags are perfectly suited for a short trip. If you’re going to the movies or the beach and taking essentials such as food, drinks or cosmetics that you want to be able to access quickly, it’s useful to have a large and open bag with you. Radley sells gorgeous tote bags in black, grenadine, pink and various patterns. Our personal favourite is the Radley Chiltern Large Tote Handbag in a korma shade! 2. Radley workbags The Radley workbags are especially pretty. If you need a bag to store quite a few of your belongings in, whether for university or for work, Radley has released […]

Size matters: The fantasy of fashion doesn’t need to upsize

The size-related debate never subsides in the fashion world. Be it a daunting picture of a super-skinny Super somewhere, or celebrities looking fleshless, working that French girl rakey décolletage look, critics will be, well, critiquing. A recent article published on the Business of Fashion circulated mixed opinions on social media sites, urging industry insiders and lookers-in alike to comment on whether the current image of fashion’s brigade – that’s the models not the immediate fash pack –desperately needed re-evaluating. Well, that’s not strictly a point of contention, given that models appear near-anorexic, and don’t really promote the best health ideals to a generation of women and girls watching them grace the runways. But, when you look at the issue from a wider fashion perspective, it almost begs the question: does fashion’s fantasy justify its use of unreal ideals? To answer my own question: yes, it does. See, when I pick up the latest copy of a glossy magazine, I do so with the intention and hope that it will whisk me away to an almost unobtainable world – unobtainable being the operative word here, because a) I cannot afford most of the things in there and b) because, personally, fashion has always provided me with a window of escapism, where my imagination could run riot. So seeing a lithe and lean model draped flexibly over beach rocks in the latest minimalist wares, well, excites me. Being an average size 10, below-model-height woman, I don’t instantly want to become the person I see on the page. The fashion editorials I feast my eyes on are supposed to excite me, show me how Givenchy can be worn in more ways than the catwalk could ever explain and make me realise that being stuck between a rock and a hard place on shoot […]

Dolce & Gabbana filigrane embellished gold-plated clip earrings: Yay or Nay?

The undisputed runway rulers of the accessory world, Dolce & Gabbana’s seasonal Sicilian offerings never fail to disappoint. Always harking back to their native Italy, the designs are splashed with intense colour and smattering of beautiful details; often ornate and major statement makers. So, on our Yay or Nay radar this week are hot-off-the-runway filigrane embellished gold-plated clip earrings. Decorated with multi-coloured stones, engraved gold-plated coins, raffia tassels and pompoms, clipping these to your earlobes are sure to turn heads! But they’re not exactly a dainty and delicate addition to your jewellery collection, and as with all Dolce designs, require a certain flamboyance to carry them off properly. Below, we weigh up the pros and cons of snapping up a pair! Yay Statement buy: Safe to say, the filigrane embellished gold-plated clip earrings aren’t your average minimalist investment. You’re set to make an uber-statement with these earrings, not to mention be the envy of your fashionable friends! Complementary to your wardrobe: With an array of colours squeezed into one earring, you’re sure to find the majority of your coloured wardrobe fits with this pair. No need for a wardrobe revamp then! Lightweight: Although they appear to be incredibly heavy, these earrings are deceptively lightweight, making them less painful when working your look on the beach all day! Nay One wear then despair item: The downside of a statement buy is that its sheer look-at-me factor means you can only really ever get one wear out of it, before experiencing yawn-you’ve-worn-it-before glares from passers-by! These earrings firmly fall into that category. Size: Not for the faint-hearted, much like most of Dolce & Gabbana’s colourful creations, these earrings are on the large side – meant to make an impact. Not the best investment if you prefer your accessories to accent, not overtake, […]

Kate Upton to get her American Vogue cover debut this June!

Didn’t we tell you that Kate Upton would be getting Anna Wintour’s seal of approval this year? We can’t help but feel that we told you, hence the smug look on our faces right now! Kate Upton got her British Vogue debut earlier this year by fronting the January issue (and what a beautiful image it was!) and it looks like she’ll be covering the Stateside version before the year is out too, as rumour has it she’s bagged the June cover. Pretty impressive, considering this is the same girl who had to reportedly pay $25,000 for her Met Gala ticket last year! The theme for the June issue is reportedly “summer escapes” so we imagine picturesque landscapes, scorching beaches and minimal clothing will all feature prominently in the cover and editorial images. Are you excited to see Kate’s American Vogue debut cover? Do you think it’ll be the first of many or should she stick to Sports Illustrated? [Fashionista] [Image]

Four swimsuits for any holiday occasion!

[noskim] Happy Valentine’s Day fashion peeps! If your other half has surprised you with a lovely little couple’s holiday then a) you’ve got him very well trained and we urge you to share your tips with us, and b) we know you’re already planning your swimwear pieces in your head, and we are indeed here to help. We’ve selected four gorgeous swimsuits for all holiday occasions – so whether you’re heading to a water park for some adrenaline-fuelled fun or just rocking up somewhere with a sun lounger and a pool, we have it – and you – covered. Take a look at our selection of fab women’s swimwear: 1. Water Park– The one piece bathing suit is a godsend for all rigorous activity. This makes it the go-to choice for waterparks, water aerobics, a cheeky swimming race, and pretty much anything that requires more movement than sitting on a sunbed and reading a good book. Not only will they keep you secure, but they’re super-flattering too! 2. BBQ – Tankini swimwear is a versatile and essential part of holiday packing, but it isn’t solely restricted to a pool-side vacay. Tankinis are perfect to wear to a barbeque in the rare British sun – it’ll keep you cool, but is still modest enough to wear with all the family without making you feel too exposed. It’s the best of both worlds! 3. Beach – No holiday suitcase is complete without some essential cover-ups. Heading back to your hotel room to change after a long hard day of chilling by the pool isn’t always ideal if you just want a bite to eat, so investing in some cover-ups will sort that problem right out.  4. Bikini– This is the one for all you dedicated tanners. What’s the point of copious sun […]

Dolce and Gabbana keeps it in the family again for SS13 ad campaign

We’re super-glad to see that Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are once again sticking with their traditional Italian family theme for the Dolce and Gabbana spring/summer 2013 ad campaign. Possibly one of our favourite concepts for an ad campaign ever – so simple, yet so effective and true to the brand . Monica Bellucci, Bianca Balti, Bianca Brandolini, Kate King and Zuzanna Bijoch are just some of the faces who were photographed by the designers themselves in the stunning Sicilian resort town of Taormina. The girls are joined by dapper men and cute, playful children as they pose at the beach in some exquisite pieces from the newest Dolce and Gabbana collection. We love the snaps, but don’t know how realistic they are in terms of “traditional family snaps”. After all, would you wear your finest designer gear to the beach and risk that pesky sand getting everywhere?

Kate Moss, Joan Smalls and Daria Werbowy smoulder for Versace’s SS13 campaign

What’s dark, bronzed, sultry, sexy and somewhat overly-Photoshopped? Why that would be the brand spanking new Versace ad campaign. The spring/summer 2013 ads were shot by the legendary Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, and feature an all-star cast consisting of Brit supermodel queen Kate Moss, Joan Smalls and Daria Werbowy. “To have three glamorous and iconic women like Kate, Daria and Joan in one campaign is not an easy feat,” Donatella Versace said. “Mert and Marcus really outdid themselves, each image is composed like a work of art.” The ladies and their very impressive bronzed, toned bodies can be seen posing seductively on a beach setting in some bold, bright and attention-grabbing pieces from the Italian fashion House’s latest collection. They look like true Roman goddesses, and of course the gladiator boys are also looking pretty heavenly too. A very drool-inducing campaign for both male and female fashion fans alike. What do you make of them? [Sassi Sam]

Wardrobe inspiration! Three ways to wear Resort 2013

Every fash bod worth their Manolo’s is well-versed in the beautifying ways of the Resort (also known as ‘cruise’) collections. The go-between offerings from major design houses to fill the wardrobe void between fashion months; once you tire of your a/w wares, resort will rescue you until spring/summer ’13 lands in stores. For those not accustomed with the over-spilling fashion calendar, resort collections land in stores (and online) around November, and offer pieces with a summery inclination – ‘cruise’ usually referred to the winter vacay-ing ways of the jet-setters, many of whom often hopped on a private jet to go and bask in the Mustique sun rather than slog it out in sleety Sloane Square. But with time, resort has turned into a teaser for next season, and judging by the latest resort 2013 drops at go-to shopping destination Matches, juicy prints, monochrome and lashings of bold colour will continue to entice. Whether you’re spending Christmas in foggy Dublin or baking Dubai, there’s nothing to stop you rocking resort’s fabulous fashions. Here are our top three resort looks for different occasions. Party  Off to a wedding in the Turks and Caicos Islands? Don’t leave the miserable skies of Blighty behind without packing this multicoloured floral dress in your suitcase. Up the glam ante further by adding a statement necklace to compensate for the strapless style and finish off with a matching clutch. Winter sun break  If you’re lucky enough to be dancing at a Goan beach party this Christmas or New Year whilst the rest of the nation sits tight in thermals, then do so in style! We love this alternative cover-up to the traditional kaftan; perfect for popping over a black bikini for a real print pop. No winter vacation would be complete without a pair of desirable flat sandals, […]

Karlie Kloss poses for Juicy Couture’s latest ‘Couture La La’ perfume

We’d better make the most of seeing Karlie Kloss’s long locks flowing freely in the (probably fake) wind while we can, seeing as the 20-year-old model went for quite a dramatic chop earlier this month! Karlie and her precious brunette mane and gorgeous youthful looks can be seen on the ad campaign for the brand new Juicy Couture ‘Couture La La’ fragrance, which was shot on a beach by photography dream team Inez and Vinoodh. We love the juxtaposition of the soft, baby pink top and stunning loud, statement-making choker. We haven’t had a chance to have a whiff of the perfume yet, but it’s being described as a “fruity luscious bouquet with white floral notes and sensual musks,” which has got our smell buds tingling. If all the other Juicy scents are anything to go by, we predict we’re going to have several bottles of this on our dressing tables too. We wouldn’t mind finding this under the tree next month, hint hint, Santa!

The world’s most stylish holiday destinations

Sometimes, we just need a little sun. The cold winds and unflattering jumpers of autumn and winter can get you down, so getting a bit of winter sun is perfect to make you feel refreshed and glamorous again. Here are our top tips to give you that much-needed pick me up during the colder months. Mahé Island, Seychelles If a stylish holiday filled with sun, sea and sand is what you are dreaming of at the moment, the Seychelles may well be the place for you. Featuring golden beaches and the bluest of seas, the Seychelles, and in particular Mahé Island, promises visitors a luxurious, relaxing holiday in the most picturesque of surroundings. Some of the best beaches are tied in with resorts such as Kempinski Seychelles, so be sure to research each resort’s merits before you book! Nassau, Bahamas Also sitting pretty with an average winter temperature in the mid-twenties is Nassau, capital of the Bahamas. As with Mahé Island, Nassau has many fabulous beaches to relax upon and recharge before the busy Christmas period. Additionally, a trip to the Bacardi Distillery will allow you to sip on free cocktails and take advantage of the satisfyingly cheap Bacardi gift shop, so you can stock up on supplies to remind you of warmer days when you are back in your cold hometown. Havana, Cuba If you are looking for a bit of culture with your luxury, Havana could be the place for you. November through April is the area’s dry season, and is widely viewed as the best time to visit Cuba. Split your time at the beach with ogling faded Spanish architecture or hanging out in some of Hemingway’s favourite haunts with a glass of rum in one hand while enjoying a bit of live jazz, and you will […]

Cornwall Cool!

Two weeks in Cornwall. Drizzly weather, too many Cornish pasties and endless shouts of ‘are we nearly there yet?’ Right? Wrong. Since you were last there, Coranwall has transformed itself into a mecca for cool. Forget Barcelona or Amsterdam, whether you’re after a romantic mini-break or a few days away with your mates, Cornwall is where it’s at. You’ve all heard of Fistral Beach, one of Europe’s premier surfing destinations in Newquay to which surfers from all over the world flock in huge numbers. But it’s the beaches slightly off the beaten track which are well worth a visit. Think crystal clear blue waters, golden sandy beaches and dramatic cliff lines that you’d only normally expect to see after several hours on a plane. Rock Beach, known locally as Kensington by the Sea due to the numbers of high profile celebrities it attracts, is surrounded by cool bars and restaurants. The Beach Restaurant in stunning Sennen Cove was voted in the world’s top five beach bars by The Guardian in 2006 and comes highly recommended for cocktails as the sun goes down. Thrill seekers, first-timers and experts alike, are well catered for in Cornwall whether surfing, kite surfing or coasteering takes your fancy. Just hire a wetsuit from one of many beach-side shops and head out into the surf. After a hard day in the water, you’ll be ready for some pampering and relaxation. Cornwall has a host of luxurious spas offering fantastic day packages perfect for chilling or as preparation for a big night out. Some of the treatments on offer use locally-made organic products. You’ll be spoilt for choice for things to do if you’re in Cornwall at any time of the year. As you’d expect the beaches are at the centre of most goings-on in the county, […]

Last-season swimwear in all styles to snap up now!

[noskim] It’s time to buy some swimwear, guys! Don’t worry, all the sugar from our Trick or Treat sweets hasn’t made us go a little bit mad, November is actually a great time to snap up some sexy swimwear. Hear us out… Now that swimwear isn’t as in-demand as it was a few months ago, we can actually get our hands on some great bargains. Provided we don’t lose them by the time it gets to summer, this is a brilliant plan! It also might give us that final push we need to book a holiday in the next few months so we can get some much needed winter sun. Win, win! There’s a very generous selection of beautiful and

Marion Cotillard’s latest Lady Dior ad doesn’t disappoint!

The gorgeous Marion Cotillard is back in Lady Dior’s latest campaign, looking just as poised, chic and elegant as ever. The French Oscar-winning actress was shot by Jean-Baptiste Mondino, and is wearing a fine ensemble from the Christian Dior Resort collection. We’re not gonna lie, we’ve never been able to do beach chic at the best of times; there’s something about sand and wind that always plays havoc with our outfits. So, now that we’ve seen how perfect someone can actually look on a beach, the bar has been raised even higher, making us believe we have no hope at all. We might be willing to give it a good go though if we decide to go in search of some winter sun. We’ll keep you posted, but in the meantime let’s all bask in the gorgeousness that is Marion Cotillard and the fine, striking piece of Lady Dior arm candy!

Five minutes with Julien Macdonald

To coincide with our exclusive preview of the Debenhams Life Made Fabulous TV commercial that we showed you earlier today, we thought it might be a nice idea to grab five cheeky minutes with one of the main stars of the campaign… the one and only Mr Julien Macdonald. Julien chatted to us about why he got involved with the Life Made Fabulous campaign, as well as his own personal style, what trends he thinks we should be all over for the autumn/winter season, and even what to look forward to in the current and very addictive series of Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model.  This is the third time you’ve been involved in the Debenhams Life Made Fabulous campaign, but what made you want to do it initially? I think that everybody has a dream of how designers are and it’s very rare that the public actually gets to see them in their working environment so it just brings back the message about the whole velocity and why I work with Debenhams. See, fashion can be fabulous and fashion can be affordable to everybody and it doesn’t matter who you are and where you come from. It proves to everybody that you’re behind the product, and you do design the clothes and you are there and you are involved with the brand. So each designer selected a hero piece to showcase in the advert and you chose a gorgeous little lace dress from the Star by Julien Macdonald range… what made you pick that over the others? Well I wanted to pick one of the pieces which I felt depicted the Star by Julien Macdonald woman and it’s a dress I can see all my fans wearing, so I just wanted one that empowered women and made women look […]

£11.5 million worth of fake Louboutins seized in the US

Poor Christian Louboutin can’t seem to catch a break these days. He has copyright infringement legal cases coming out of his ears, and now he has one more to deal with. When does he actually find time to design new shoes? According to reports, more than 20,000 pairs of counterfeit red-soled Louboutins – said to be worth £11.5 million – were seized earlier this week at the Los Angeles/Long Beach seaport complex in America. “Worn by celebrities and royalty in the fashion world, the lacquered red sole in the shoes is a distinctive symbol of the famous French designer Christian Louboutin,” said Jaime Ruiz, a spokesman for US Customs and Border Protection. “However, US Customs and Border Protection specialists have a different view of the lacquered red sole. They see a trademark protected by US law.” The orders apparently came in from China in five separate shipments, and it is thought that every single pair will be destroyed. [Image]

Ashton Kutcher and Alessandra Ambrosio sizzle for new Colcci ads

Is it just us, or do Ashton Kutcher and Alessandra Ambrosio look hotter with each and every Colcci ad campaign they do? (We’re not even going to mention the fact that this was shot in June after Alessandra had just given birth!) The beautiful couple – who let’s face it, would produce the most aesthetically perfect child if they did the dance with no pants in real life – are literally sizzling in Colcci’s Paradise Island campaign photographed by Jacques Dequeker. Last season, they managed to make a train carriage look sexy as they posed for the Brazilian brand, but this time round they’ve taken to a more conventional romantic setting – the beach! Alessandra and Ashton, both hotties in their own right, really showcase all that is right with the Colcci brand. We really want to get our hands on Ashton Kutcher the pieces in these images, so it looks like the models have done their job! Thoughts? [Sassi Sam]

Lea Michele stuns in Stella & Jamie at Comic Con 2012

We don’t know if you’ve noticed, but we’ve got a bit of a thing for monochrome at the moment, and Lea Michele isn’t helping us move away from it. The Glee goddess definitely gets our “best dressed at Comic Con” prize so far, which we think is quite an honour as the competition has been fierce this year! She wore a Stella & Jamie matching jacket and skirt, with a cream-coloured slightly glittery top tucked neatly inside. Lea’s look was a winning combination of sweet, smart and sexy; we’re not convinced her alter ego Rachel Berry would approve of the lack of colour (bar the bold red heels, of course) or indeed the hemline of the skirt, but it gets top marks from us! Ps: can someone give this girl a L’Oreal hair commercial, pronto? That gorgeous beach wave honey-coloured hair is begging to be swished around while the words “because I’m worth it” are uttered.

Five minutes with Style Passport’s Sarah Walter

Catering to our style and beauty needs for staycations, spa breaks and beach holidays and a whole lot more, by cherry picking products from ‘high/low’ fashion and beauty brands, Style Passport is the go-to destination for stylish holiday essentials. My Fashion Life caught up with the lady behind it all, Sarah Walter, who after starting a placement at British Vogue the same day Anna Wintour started at the magazine, and holding senior positions at Marie Claire, and Harpers, decided to set up Style Passport out of a ‘lifelong dream.’ Meet the woman who’s done it all… How did the idea to set up a specific platform like Style Passport come about? Style Passport is the culmination of my careers in magazines and then retail, combined with my huge passion for travel and adventure. Name three holiday spots you regularly visit and why. Our Cottage in the Brecon Beacons in Wales as often as I can to walk, garden and spend quality time with my family and friends. Baros in the Maldives which is the most perfect tiny island I have ever visited, with the best fish life I have ever seen, and New York. A friend said her only regret in life is she cannot visit New York for the first time again, I agree. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would that be? I’m getting keener and keener on California, the lifestyle is very appealing all that delicious food and wine and the drives…… Three things I never travel (abroad) without are… My iPhone for music, maps and note taking, a huge pair of sunglasses (currently loving Linda Farrow giant pink shades) to feel glamorous, protect me from the sun and to disguise jet lagged eyes. And finally a scarf which can be a wrap, towel, skirt, head wrap and […]

Rachel Zoe is a fan of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s $17,000 fur bag (PETA however, is not)

A few days ago, the blogosphere blew up when it emerged that Jessica Biel used her $39,000 The Row backpack as a casual beach bag. Of all the places you don’t wanna get sand, that piece of back candy should always be top of the list! However, now it looks like another backpack from Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s award-winning clothing line has got people talking. Celeb stylist Rachel Zoe took to her website to rave about how much she loved the multi patchwork fur backpack (which also comes in black shiny calf skin, slate shiny alligator and black alligator) and reportedly retails for just under $17,000. Not everyone shares Rachel Zoe’s love for the bag though – PETA has once again hit out at the Olsen twins for their use of fur… “If it looks like a troll and acts like a troll, it’s probably a Trollsen Twin — or someone wearing one of their new $16,000 totes, which are made from the fur and skins of innocent animals,” a spokesperson for PETA told Gossip Cop. “What the Olsens lack in creativity, they try to make up for in shock value. Sadly, it’s the foxes, calves, and alligators — who often have the fur ripped off them while they are still conscious and able to feel pain — who pay the dearest price.” Yikes! Time for you guys to weigh in…

Five minutes with…PPQ

With a client portfolio that counts Rihanna, Alexa Chung and Sienna Miller as loyal fans, Amy Molyneaux and Percy Parker – the dynamic driving force behind the directional label, PPQ – must be doing something right. Awarded with being responsible for ‘spearheading the drainpipe jean revolution’, Amy and Percy took this pioneering approach across the realm of fashion, marrying it seamlessly with music. The design duo run a record label by the name of 1234 Records, and host the annual sell-out 1234 Shoreditch festival. My Fashion Life caught up with the creative twosome to talk favourite holiday destinations, music, and of course, fashion. Describe a typical working day in the life of the PPQ dynamic duo. Amy: A typical day consists of designing across several collections with responses to factories or meetings with suppliers or pattern cutters. Percy: Generally coordinating show details or planning overseas trips to meet buyers and press. With what inspirations in mind was the PPQ spring/summer 2012 collection conceived? Amy: Inspiration came from one of our archive prints, so SS’12 has a retro feel to it – It’s very nostalgic yet fresh and upbeat for summer. Percy: It was great to look back at some of the iconic pieces we have made in our 10 years. Tell us about your favourite holiday destination? Amy: It’s a semi-difficult question as a lot of the places we travel to are work related – even though they are good. I think the best place I go to where I leave my drawing behind is the North of Ibiza, but you never stop having ideas or being inspired. Other highlights are Antigua and Japan. Percy: Mauritius was a great autumn break at the end of last season. No jet lag and the most chilled out staff on the planet which […]

Dolce and Gabbana launch childrenswear line

Seems like Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana aren’t the types of designers to only have one clothing line to their name. While D&G is no more (sniff sniff) the boys will still have a project to occupy their time with when they’re not working hard on their mainline Dolce and Gabbana collection, as it’s just been revealed that they are branching into childrenswear. The new clothing line, which is slated for release in July, is aimed at newborns to ten year olds and will consist of daywear, innerwear, beachwear, accessories and footwear. “The line is conceived as a further expansion of the Dolce & Gabbana world, in terms of product, design content, craftsmanship, function and positioning,” Stefano Gabbana said. “This is an homage to Italy and to our tradition. It’s part of our culture and marks one of the most important moments in our lives.” How much do you wanna bet that the likes of Blue Ivy and Suri Cruise will be all over this collection? [Vogue]

Five minutes with…Christina Martini and Nikolas Minoglou of Ancient Greek Sandals

What do you get when you mix ancient mythology with contemporary style? Ancient Greek Sandals, that’s what. “According to an Ancient Greek myth, the gods and goddesses had their sandals made on the beautiful islandof Crete by a gifted sandal maker who enriched each pair with magical powers. Famous for having made the flying sandals for Hermes, the sandal maker also embellished them with his personal signature…a “golden wing” buckle.” And, with this mythological summary in mind, Christina Martini and Nikolas Minoglou set about realising their dream of creating beautifully feminine sandals infused with Ancient Greek historical references. Handmade by skilled, local craftsmen using centuries-old techniques, Ancient Greek Sandals was launched for Cruise 2012, and are currently stocked at some of the best stores around the globe. We caught up with the design duo behind the name to talk holiday spots, favourite spring trends and, of course, shoes. Describe your typical working day Christina: I mostly work in the mornings and I take care of my son in the afternoons.  I sit in my office to design; correct prototypes, choose colours and materials and in general organise things.  Because I live on the island of Corfu and not inAthens, where the sandals are made, I am on the phone a lot with the technicians in the factory explaining and organising everything. I travel a lot; I usually go to Paris, which is a nice break from the daily countryside routine. Nikolas: I arrive at my office by 09:00 and find time flies as I try coordinating a million things at the same time! It is overwhelming at times but the feeling of satisfaction when I get things done makes up for it. Although I try to leave work by 17:00 in order to make it for my daily gym workout […]

Is Alber Elbaz the only ‘real’ designer left?

It’s rare, these days, for a designer belonging to a fashion house owned by a large conglomerate to truthfully speak their mind. Expectations, expected silences and a certain submission are all part and parcel of nurturing someone else’s (fashion) baby, albeit you’re the one who takes a bow out on that runway before a terrifyingly discerning audience. Last week, I came across a piece in The Independent on Lanvin’s loveable artistic director, Alber Elbaz, about his hatred for the word ‘cool’ and his vehement passion for the very creative roots from which he comes. Put simply, he highlighted how the fashion world has, to a set degree, become a theatre act, dramatic designers the puppeteers – I’ll leave you to guess who the puppets are… At the helm of luxury powerhouse Lanvin, Elbaz has quietly transformed this brand into a superpower, celebrated by the celebrity and fashion pack alike. Arriving in 2002, Elbaz took the then ailing brand into his hands, and like a little romantic fairy, brought it back to the fore. In the article, Elbaz, although mentioning no names refers to the spectacle that is the inside fashion pack, and how the industry has increasingly become detached from what it originally set out to do. He also speaks with a certain sadness in his voice on the overdriven rumour mill of who-replaces-who every time a fashion house restructures its creative team, and the pain of his own somewhat history-making dismissal from YSL in 1999 after the Gucci group brought out the brand, for reasons no other than Tom Ford wanting to creatively take over. Talking proudly of a soon-to-be-published book marking his tenth anniversary at Lavin, Elbaz said: “I thought that at a time like now, when the whole industry is about the six minutes of the show […]

How to avoid the perils of sun damage!

Aww, we cooed, when last week we came across family time pics of the Jolie-Pitt clan, happily frolicking on a beach on theGalapagos Islands. With a holiday fund large enough for such lavish retreats, the pictures showed Brangelina as the typically doting parents, tending to their sand-covered, wanna-jump-in-the-ocean brood with a watchful eye. But these holiday scenes also got us thinking about factors other than sand-filled swimsuits involved in enjoying a beach holiday; factors of the sun protection kind. With more and more people flying out to hotter countries in a bid to avoid the bitter British weather, sun damage to skin is becoming an area of heightened concern. With holiday season looming, it’s even more important to figure out what level of sun protection your skin needs in advance of jetting out to sun-scorched, far flung islands. But don’t be fooled, for sun damage to your skin won’t only come as part and parcel of a sunny break in Spain. No. Even winter sun is capable of harming your skin, alongside a whole host of other ‘burning’ activities. After natural sunlight, sun beds are the major culprits in contributing to sun damaged skin.
