Dianna Agron is Worst Dressed of the Week in Louis Vuitton

Sometimes, a look creeps up on the red carpet that we remain undecided about: it’s not bad, nor it is appealing by any means; but it irks our style-appreciating radar and words need to be said! Such a look sending our sartorial signals into overdrive this week (and not for the right reasons) comes courtesy of Dianna Agron, who attended the MOCA 35th anniversary gala hosted by Louis Vuitton last week in a rather peculiar outfit. Naturally wearing a runway-fresh look from the Louis Vuitton autumn/winter ’14 collection; broken down, the outfit isn’t all too bad: an embroidered dress with belted waist makes for a form-flattering look, but the shoe choice has left us a little baffled. And this is the problem runway-to-red carpet looks pose: they appear suited to lofty models, but when ‘real’ women of a petite build sport the same look, the results are very different. Owing to Dianna’s shorter height, the ankle boots seems a little harsh against the floaty style of the dress, and a strappy sandal or simple pump would’ve sufficed to lengthen her overall silhouette. We’re diggin’ that cinched waist, though! What do you make of Dianna’s look? [Image]

Treat him to a denim jacket….

….here’s some handy advice before you make that purchase. As fashion items go, denim jackets have had something of an unfair representation, which has led to them being avoided by gents who are unsure of how to wear them. Lots of people are put off the idea of investing in a denim jacket by the notion that it’s a crime against fashion to sport double denim. And while that may be true to a certain extent, we feel that this alone shouldn’t stop anyone from sporting one! Of course, the most obvious way to avoid committing a fashion faux pas is to avoid double denim altogether. If your man is deathly afraid of experimenting with this look, advice him to stick to wearing chinos or cords when wearing a denim up top. Take a look at this handy video from MensFashionMagazine.co.uk, which gives some great inspiration as to what to wear with a denim jacket. However, wearing double denim isn’t necessarily a fashion no go; although there are certain rules that should be applied. 1. Sporting jeans and a jacket in the same tone of denim is best avoided. If you need a refresh on what this looks like, cast your mind back to the 2001 American Music Awards. Justin Timberlake may be something of a fashion icon these days, but we’ll never forget the night he stepped onto the red carpet in a double denim ensemble, complete with cowboy Stetson. Relive the horror and check it out at MTV.com. 2. Double denim looks fabulous when you employ contrasting tones. Dark denim works best on the upper body, so it’s always a good idea to favour this shade for the jacket. Take a look at this G-star jacket, part of the full range of denim jackets available online from Diffusion […]

Jourdan Dunn vs. Anna Dello Russo…Who wore Moschino better?

This week’s dress-off has pulled in two major fashion players, both of whom know how to leave their well-dressed imprints on our style-saturated minds. Upping the glam factor during Fashion Month, as per usual, was Anna Dello Russo – the high priestess of unabashed, high end fashion that says nothing of a tamed approach to dressing in the morning. Sporting autumn/winter ‘14’s biggest parody of fast fashion – the ‘Over 20 Billion Served’ McDonald’s sweatshirt, masterminded by Jeremy Scott at Moschino – during Milan Fashion Week, ADR gave us (and the flurry of street style photogs) pure, unadulterated viewing pleasure. Wearing it as a dress, she accessorised with a matching quilted bag, featuring the symbolic Golden Arches; a woollen scarf and lace-up booties. The matching phone cover certifies this look as Dello Russo down to a T. But, putting a slightly more pared back spin on this brash runway number was Brit babe Jourdan Dunn, who opted to take a much more NYC approach with her styling. Tempering the loudness of the sweat with all-black staples; a leather mini skirt, shearling coat, trusty tote and Balenciaga cut-out boots completed the look. Perfect. So, who deserves to be crowned the sartorial queen in this war of wonderful wares? Given there’s a world of difference between the styles of these two fashion queens; we’re sticking with our slick style guns on this and awarding Jourdan the accolade. Anna’s power dressing prowess never fails to excite, but Jourdan’s effortless ease makes her look a lot more wearable. You go, girl. [Images: Jourdan; Anna]

Victoria Beckham does springtime simplicity

What does one of the most stylish women in the world and one of the biggest fashion designers on the planet wear while going about her day to day business in London? A simple silk t-shirt and some powder blue Chloe Resort 2014 trousers, of course. Victoria Beckham is used to getting dressed up in skin-tight pencil skirts and dresses, but she’s also capable of donning more relaxed styles too. And we think this might just be as “relaxed” as it gets for the former Spice Girl. You probably won’t catch her in tracksuit bottoms and Ugg boots anytime soon, but the simplicity of this casual outfit works wonders, especially as the colour palette screams “springtime”. And in case you’re wondering… VB is in our fine Capital checking out the progress of her Dover Street store; not long to go ’til it opens! [Image]

WATCH: We help Marks & Spencer style 4 key looks from their SS14 collection. We love them all especially #3!

A DAY OF PURE FASHION FUN Getting the chance to dabble with new season collections is a favourite hobby of Team MFL, and when the lovely team at Marks & Spencer invited us to assist in styling their spring/summer 2014 collection, we were at the airy Sunbeam Studios in London as fast as our heels could transport us. THE STYLE BRIEF Working alongside three other leading ladies in the fashion industry (Laura Tan, Metro; Emily Johnston, Fashion Foie Gras; Laetitia Wajnapel, Mademoiselle Robot), we spent the day with a room full of Marks & Spencer’s latest drop of on-trend pieces, an entertaining camera crew and an endless supply of delicious goodies to fuel stylish thoughts! Tasked with creating four spring-appropriate looks using key pieces from the collection, we worked our way though rails of clothes and accessories, cherry picking our favourite pieces (it was tough – pretty much everything made it onto our mental wish list) to dress the lovely models. THE LOOKS Putting four headstrong fashion women together in one room, with a brief to let our styling creativity run riot is no mean feat. With different trend preferences and opinions whizzing around in full force, the experience was still a highly enjoyable one, and our differing choices easily melded into four very wearable looks. Result! Channelling a prim-but-preppy look, we put together a cotton shirt with a jacquard mini skirt and a knitted tunic worn as a jumper. Perfect for work or play. Going for femme-gone-gritty style, we paired a sixties-inspired drop waist dress with biker boots and the textured check coat of our dreams! The models pixie crop was the perfect finishing touch! This is was particular favourite amongst the group, as boyfriend jeans are universally flattering. We paired the wardrobe classic with a plain cotton shirt, […]

Steep vs. Cheap: High Street heel wars

Sandals are a case for the best pedicures, and just a damn good excuse to ban all socks-and-boots pairings from our wardrobes. You can’t fool us, sky! This week, tempting us to twinkle-toe our way into a culotte and cropped top ensemble are these pretty heeled sandals. And guess what? Both the steep and cheap versions are high street finds! If you’re guilty (well, actually, let’s call it ahead of time) of fast forwarding your wardrobe, already pinching summer staples and mixing them in with your Blighty-proof style; we don’t blame you. And, when you land your peepers on these white-washed sandals, with just the right amount of polished detailed to take them from under a smart office look to a summer cocktail soirée, it’ll be tough to resist whipping the plastic out. Making us dream up minimal, summery outfits is the Kiss sandal from high street favourite, Kurt Geiger. The two-strap sandal features a sturdy block heel and turn lock ankle fastening, and screams out to be paired with an A-line midi skirt in the softest of pastel lilacs. Tempted? Shop the steep option right here (we promise it won’t really break the bank): Carvela Kurt Geiger Kiss sandals, £85. But, if forking out £15 short of your fortnightly travel allowance on hardly weatherproof shoes leaves you feeling a little nervous, we’ve tracked down a much more cost effective option. Take your boot-clad self to Topshop, and pick up an equally fashion status-boosting style for a fraction of the price. Sorted. Go on, you know they’re meant for your shoe collection: Topshop Heartbreaker heeled sandals, £28.

Milan Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Moschino, Fendi, Prada & more

We have no idea why Milan Fashion Week isn’t as popular as New York, London or Paris, because the latest collections to debut on the Italian catwalks were out of this world. We don’t think Giorgio Armani is going to have too much of a tough time getting support for MFW if the latest shows from Moschino, Prada, Fendi and Just Cavalli were anything to go by. Jeremy Scott’s first collection for Moschino was always going to be an interesting one, and we definitely think he met expectations and pulled a stellar collection – and catwalk show – out the bag! Jeremy Scott showcased everything from a revamped McDonalds logo to everyone’s favourite little underwater creature, Spongebob Squarepants, to all-else in-between. Katy Perry and Rita Ora showed no signs of a hangover – despite partying until the wee hours of the morning after attending the Brits – as they were the modelling guests of honour on the Moschino autumn/winter 2014 catwalk. The ladies stole the show as they strutted down the catwalk to take their well-deserved seats in the front row to watch the rest of the new-season pieces make their debut. If they ever fancy a career change, we definitely think they have what it takes to make it big in the modelling world! If we could take only two things away from the Fendi autumn/winter 2014 show, it would be the Karl Lagerfeld doll/handbag which Cara Delevingne (who was walking exclusively for Fendi, may we add) carried down the catwalk, Georgia May Jagger’s outfit. We love GMJ at the best of times, but her appearance on the Fendi catwalk was above and beyond anything we could have ever expected. Kaiser Karl himself described the Fendi collection as brutal and poetic, and we definitely got that memo given all the […]

WATCH: London Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Burberry, David Koma, Michael van der Ham & more

No rest for the wicked – or stylish – Day 4 of London Fashion Week was just as jam-packed and exciting as ever; and we were there to take in all the action! Where else would we be on a day when Burberry, David Koma, Michael van der Ham, Tom Ford and Roksanda Ilincic are showcasing their autumn/winter 2014 collections, eh? Burberry AW14 One of the highlights of the day – and the five day event as a whole – was the Burberry Prorsum autumn/winter 2014 show. Luckily it was a dry affair (not that a little or a lot of rain would have stopped us) and the front row was as star-studded as ever. Bradley Cooper, Harry Styles, Sky Ferreira, Anna Wintour and more celebs graced the front row to view the collection first hand – and we think they would have been pretty chuffed with what they saw. If there was one thing we took away from the show, It was that we need to go scarf shopping asap. Scarves as you know them will no longer suffice, as it’s all about the oversized ones that can double up as a blanket. Or you could just buy a blanket with your initials on, as they too made it down the Burberry runway in the epic finale. Burberry definitely didn’t do things by halves in the music department either, as we were treated to a stellar performance by the one and only Paloma Faith. Pipe envy! Overall, Burberry presented a soft, casual, comfortable and warm collection which Christopher Bailey said was inspired by the Charleston Farmhouse in Sussex of the Bloomsbury Group. And if you head to the brand’s official website right now you can preorder the collection and ensure that you’re one of the first people to own […]

Stella McCartney Surrealist mini skirt: Yay or Nay?

If you’re anything like us, you’ll have grumpily slipped into yet another pair of jeans this morning. Oh, how we long for you, sunny spring! Strictly speaking, we’re still on the other side of holiday-inspired cocktails and barely-there dressing, but what’s a girl to do if not dream? And, making us dream this a.m. is the stunning Surrealist embellished mini skirt from Stella McCartney (£865). Leaving us pining for enviably tanned (and toned) pins, this silk and cotton-blend number packs an artistic punch, featuring crystal and bead Surrealist motifs. Making for an exciting addition to your wardrobe from the designer who fulfills every woman’s desire to dress like the boys – but with feminine flair – are you tempted to give in and snap up some Stella M goodness? Below, we help you rationalise the fashion binge… Yay Easy party look: This skirt easily removes the need for a party dress. Style with a casual tee, heels and a clutch, and you’re good to go! Great for the holiday wardrobe: Late night parties on the beach? This skirt ticks all the right boxes, without being an overpowering, overly-decadent (and overheating) addition to your suitcase. Day-to-night investment: Dashing to an after work event, or cocktails? Pair this skirt with a cosy grey knit and ankle boots by day, before switching it up for some evening glamour (see easy party look above). Nay Price: Erm, did we say this piece of art cashes in at £865? Yes, that’s just over one months’ rent, in case you were wondering. Colour: White: not the most practical of shades, so you’ll need to hatch up a befriend-the-dry cleaner plan before buying. Delicate: Given the delicate motifs are what make this mini skirt masterpiece just that, they’re also prone to damage. If you’re planning on dancing […]

WATCH: LFW AW14 highlights from Temperley London, Mary Katrantzou & more

MARY KATRANTZOU AW14 COLLECTION She may have been dubbed the digital print queen by way of her hypnotising design USP of seasons past, but Mary Katrantzou took a refreshing detour this season. Dizzying print work was replaced by symbols that held a deeper meaning; school badges, medals, clock faces, a coat of arms all made an appearance, intricately embroidered onto fuzzy sweatshirts, patchworked onto maxi skirts and running down pleated gowns to resemble a holy vestment. Suits cut in jacquard are set to become the fashion set’s new favourites, and one in particular – a bird-print skirt suit with pleated gym-skirt – demanded attention. Delicate slips dresses with hook straps featured a metal mesh adorned with gold-tone hearts, squares and pearls, tricking onlookers into believing they were admiring an art installation. Well, we were certainly in awe. TEMPERLEY LONDON AW14 COLLECTION Temperley London may hail from the leafy enclaves of Somerset, but, designer Alice Temperley didn’t stick to the quiet side for autumn/winter ’14. Bringing her signature decorative style to the table, Byzantine architecture-inspired prints were splashed across unbuttoned coats, tightly belted at the waist. Pretty skirt suits were updated with a boxier silhouette, while stained glass-imitating laser prints prettily played out across red carpet worthy dresses. New for this season, however, was the concept of layering luxe evening looks: an oversize fur stole in a fluffy peach hue was breathtaking over a shawl and barely there gown; while neck scarves, outerwear and shawls daubed in striking floral prints were the accessory du jour to seek protection from the winter chill. Just perfect. RICHARD NICOLL AW14 COLLECTION As blue emerges to be the hue of the hour for next season, Richard Nicoll didn’t hold back in feeding our appetite for the coldest shade-gone-hot. School girl attire-gone-haute was the message here, […]

Five minutes with Abbey Clancy

After Ultimo’s new face and body Abbey Clancy met with her adoring fans at the Debenhams in Oxford Street to showcase the new Ultimo Valentine’s collection, we grabbed five minutes with her to talk all things lingerie, body confidence, and fashion!   You’ve achieved so much in your career is there anything you specifically want to achieve? I’ve never really had a plan with everything I’ve done, it’s things that have just come up and I’ve said yes or no and generally anything that’s enjoyable Do you feel pressured still doing lingerie shoots? How do you gear up your body and your mind and get in the zone for doing it? I do like my food, but a week before I probably won’t be eating red velvet cakes every day! Just trying to be a little bit more sensible. Most of the time I will work with photographers who I’m comfortable to be around and a good team so I think that helps. So you don’t get nervous in the build up to it? No, not anymore. What’s your favourite piece from your collection? I like the “Hallie” set, it’s gorgeous. It looks amazing on and it’s really comfy, but still sexy. What’s your relationship with lingerie and how do Ultimo bras make you feel? Oh I’m obsessed with underwear. I never not have matching sets on. I’ve got a bikini and underwear fetish, I love it! So to be asked to do Ultimo is just like a dream job, it’s amazing. I love all of the range, I own it all, and I wear it all the time! Does it make you feel sexier wearing it [Ultimo]? I think you do. I think if you’ve got nice underwear on, you automatically feel better. What’s your favourite fashion brand/label? High-street; […]

7 fab Fashion Month essentials!

For some people, February is all about Valentine’s Day, but for all the budding fashionistas in the world, the month of Feb is all about fashion. New York Fashion Week, London Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week – all four cities which have their own distinctive and irreplaceable style! So, dressing for Fashion Month – regardless of the city or how much show-watching you’ll actually be doing – has to be done right. You need to get the dressing for the chill and dressing stylishly balance just right. We think we’ve got it sorted with our seven suggestions below; what say you? 1. Ah the great Fashion Week footwear dilemma! Do you go for sky high heels to complement your cute dress and to be the same height as the rest of the ladies and models or do you go for comfort? Nine times out of 10 we would have gone for the former, but since flat shoes are loved by the likes of Alexa Chung and Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel, we think we’re going to go for flats this season. Plus just think how warm these boots will be? 2. The bag is probably one of the most important accessories. If you’re a high fashion magazine editor, a celebrity or someone who won’t be working at Fashion Week, by all means go for an adorable little clutch bag that fits a mobile phone and extra lippie – especially if you’re being chauffeured around from show to show. But for the rest of us who have to slum it and walk to shows, a good sized bag to fit everything from iPads to chargers to make-up bags to an extra pair of flats to food (yes we all need to refuel between shows) is absolutely vital! 3. Got a line-up of social status-boosting bashes, but no outfit to accompany these party dates? Fear not, because we’ve hunted down the perfect dress for that fashionably late entrance. But, before jumping the (sartorial) gun and diving in with the plastic, take a step back and analyse the Starburst dress’s purchase potential. Need a little helping hand? Alternative party look: Sick of sporting a yawn-inducing LBD? The Starburst Disco dress is an ideal, colour-pop alternative. Day-to-night: Although this dress is pitch perfect for the dance floor, it wouldn’t look out of place for work or a lunch date, either, Just pair with boots and a leather jacket. Nay One-wear-then-despair: Given the bright starburst print is a little hard to miss, ask yourself this: will this dress see the light of day again, after its first wear? Price: At £330, it’s not extortionate, but neither is it cheap. An expensive hit, if your social diary’s a little full… A-line skirt: Although the form-skimming silhouette of the dress makes for a great look, the A-line skirt bottom may not be so flattering on all figures. Lady Gaga rocks vintage Gianni Versace in Paris

Lady Gaga did a pretty good job of acting as a Donatella Versace doppelganger while attending the Atelier Versace Couture show in Paris a few days ago, but we don’t think anyone is going to confuse the two ladies after seeing her in this ensemble. Although Mother Monster is wearing an instantly recognisable vintage Gianni Versace ensemble in Paris, we think the Donatella caparisons will have come to a very dramatic halt thanks to the equally dramatic piece on Gaga’s head. Would anyone like to offer some explanations? Headpiece and sky-high platform boots aside, we think this is a very glamorous, sparkly and attention-grabbing (for all the right reasons) look; the statement red lip juxtaposed with the monochrome outfit is particularly stunning, and we can’t take our eyes off her! We give Lady Gaga an eight out of 10 for this look; how would you rate her?

Trend alert: Grunge!

If you paid attention to some of the biggest spring/summer 2014 catwalk shows, then you’ll already know that grunge is making a huge comeback for the new season. Hedi Slimane was all about grunge and rock ‘n’ roll for the Saint Laurent spring/summer 2014 show, and Marc Jacobs also went dark and alternative for his final Louis Vuitton collection. (A great way to bow out, don’t you think?) So, with two of the biggest fashion players championing the trend, we have every reason to get behind it too! We’ve already seen the celebs try their hand at the grunge trend by incorporating certain aspects into their red carpet outfits and as they go about their everyday lives, and now you can get in on the trend too with these very basic items. 1. Our top pick for going grunge is a leather jacket. Nothing says attitude better than a fierce bit of leather draped across your shoulders, and this Christopher Kane jacket is the perfect hue to wear over the rest of your black clothes and accessories. Christopher Kane cracked leather biker jacket, £2,490 £871.50 2. Make your eyes stand out by lining them with the darkest and boldest hue of black eyeliner you can find. Yves Saint Laurent black eyeliner, £24 3. You can be bad-ass without putting your feet through hell, too! Dune Black leather biker boots, £195 4. The more studs and spikes in your accessories, the better! Anna Wintour is Worst Dressed of the Week in Prada

We’re looking over our shoulders as we write this, in case, y’know, Anna’s style army is hunting us down. That’s Anna Wintour, in case you were wondering. Spotted in what may become a Worst Dressed Of The Year contender pretty soon, Madame Wintour took to the red carpet for the season three premiere of ‘Girls’ earlier this week, in a Prada Spring 2014 fur coat. But this wasn’t any old coat. No. Painted boldly with a woman’s portrait, the snug cover-up was perfect for battling the New York City deep freeze, but Anna’s overall styling left us in a *facepalm* pose for some time. Paired with an even longer skirt (what?!) and knee-high leather boots (no Manolos? Where are the Manolos? Bring back the Manolos!), Anna’s styling went the complete opposite way to the runway-ready, easier on the eye look. Sporting her signature bob and stern semi-smile, the American Vogue E-I-C decided to add some extra oomph to the “eughh” factor by adding a peculiar looking scarf to the mix. Yes, we get that you wanted to chill-block, Anna, but this outfit just screams “NO!” Pull up the skirt hem and ditch the scarf, and you might have a winning look on your hands, but this time, you’re so not in vogue, Anna. Fearne Cotton casually colour coordinates in London

There’s nothing like a bit of casual style inspiration, especially as awards season is fast approaching and we’re going to be inundated with high glamour red carpet looks in the next couple of weeks. Fearne Cotton not only showed us how to do casual cool, but she also showed us how to do colour coordination to the max, as the yummy mummy stepped out in London in a cute and very cosy looking checked coat that matched her newly dyed pink hair perfectly. She rocked a fierce pair of leather trousers with some chunky heeled ankle boots, all of which were topped off very nicely with the ultimate celeb accessory: oversized sunnies. It doesn’t look like Fearne Cotton has let the brutal chill and strong winds of London get her down, and we’re putting that down to her bright and ultra-cute outfit. Pass the hair dye! [Image]

Staying Stylish on the Slopes

The ski season is finally here! If you’re hitting the slopes in the next few months you’ll want to know how you can stay warm and dry whilst also staying on top of the latest trends. The basic stuff Before we start looking at styles it’s important to outline that there are certain essentials that you have to wear whilst skiing or else you will freeze! You will need to wear layers under your ski jacket – normally some kind of thermal, another thin layer and a warm, insulating outer layer like a fleece or jumper. Remember that if you stop for a break or lunch you’ll probably be taking your jacket off so people will see this layer. You’ll also need gloves, a hat and goggles (you won’t need them every day, depending on the weather, but you should have them available) and ski socks as a minimum and something warm to snuggle up in in the evenings, like a cuddly onesie! The fun stuff In the past few years ski attire has really stepped up and now it’s easy to find a ski jacket that will cater for all the practical needs you require on the slopes and make you look good. Whether you want to embrace the street style set by snowboarders or keep things sophisticated with furs and simple colours there are plenty of options out there. This jacket from The North Face is the perfect example of a timeless, elegant ski jacket which will stay fashionable for a number of seasons. Sypder have put together a similar faux fur jacket which could easily double up as a warm option on a chilly day in the city. If you want something which reflects the street style that the slopes are starting to embrace then try something […]

Rosie Huntington Whiteley wows in plunging Balmain mini

Although Rihanna was announced as the brand new face of Balmain a matter of days ago (click here to check out the spring/summer 2014 ad campaign images in case you’ve been living under a rock all week and haven’t seen them yet!), we can’t help but think Rosie Huntington Whiteley would make a good spokesperson for the French brand too, especially if the pic above is anything to go by. The stunning British model wore a sexy, plunging black and white long sleeved mini dress from the spring/summer 2012 collection (seems like ages ago we saw that collection debut on the runway, doesn’t it?) while attending The AEM Association Children of the World for Rwanda in Paris earlier this week. Although we weren’t in attendance, we would bet good money that she turned heads wherever she went! She teamed her dress with some edgy black boots and a freshly blow-dried voluminous hairdo, not to mention some feline-esque eyes that Alexa Chung would no doubt be very proud (or maybe even jealous) of. Sex goddess, much? [Image]

Getting inspiration from the Chanel Dallas Metiers d’Art show

The Chanel Dallas Metiers d’Art show is still one of the hottest topics of conversation right now, for both good and not so good reasons. Karl Lagerfeld has spoken out about how his recent Texas inspired designs are not an excuse to step out of the house in fancy dress, nor has he directly apologised for that Native American headdress that made its way down the Dallas runway. However, there are a few things we took away from the show that we will be incorporating into our wardrobes, and here are a few pieces to help you do the same should you also want some Chanel/Texas sartorial inspiration: 1. Can’t get more literal than that, right? Somedays Lovin bless Texas top, £35 2. Show your love for Texas with this loud yet comfy long sleeve shirt! American Eagle long sleeve shirt, £15.28 3. We all need a bit of Chanel in our lives, and these earrings are a great and purse-friendly way to show that the brand is never far from your heart! Chanel Vintage clip on earrings, £295 4. A fun watch to add to your casual outfit! Game Time watch, £29.82 5. Sexy black heeled boots with a fringe finish? Yes please! F&F fringed boots, £25 6. Fringe done the sparkly way! Stella McCartney cross body bag, £645 7. Flapper chic meets Dallas darling – we love this dress! Hoss Intropia silk fringed hem dress, £354.99

Steep vs. Cheap: Chunky knit scarf

Looking at the frost-coated rooftops and grey clouds, it seems high time to invest in the chunkiest winter accessories possible! And given our affinity for all things knitted and super-cosy, a chunky, chill-blocking scarf is high on the agenda. Much like a pair of gloves or trusty boots, a scarf is a long-term investment for when the cooler climes hit, so its best to go for a flattering colour that’ll work with you winter wardrobe. Need a scarf stat, but can’t seem to find the one that promises all the warmth, without cramping your style? We’ve found the perfect, stylish steep and cheap options to suit all pockets! Sitting pretty snug at the steep end is the Stella McCartney carpet patch chunky-knit scarf (£370). Apart for it being near impossible to not want everything by this designer, we’re digging the softest wool and angora blend, and the easy-to-wear monochromatic colour of this scarf. Winter chills, what winter chills? But, if your winter-proofing budget can’t stretch so far – especially now that the big Christmas shop-athon is looming – how about an equally toasty high street hit? Head to Dorothy Perkins, and pick up the black and white stitch scarf (£16) for a fraction of the price. Yes, you can thank us later. Will you splash out or save? Five minutes with… Caggie Dunlop

It’s no secret that we love getting behind new designer talent, and we aren’t the only ones! Singer, actress & fashion entrepreneur Caggie Dunlop feels the same way too, which is pretty much why she started her label ISWAI. (That’s “It Starts With an Idea”, just in case you didn’t read our post about it back in 2011) That, and of course her love of style and fashion! Caggie took time out of her busy schedule to sit down with us and talk us through her ISWAI vision, dish out some style advice for the upcoming party season, and much more. Here are a few highlights from our chat with Caggie Dunlop: How would you explain ISWAI to someone who hadn’t heard of it? ISWAI is an innovative brand that harnesses and platforms young designers, to give them exposure in a difficult industry. It is very much an extension of my style that is the continuous theme, which I’d like to think is fashionable, yet practical. One of your designers Michael Robinson has just moved to Balenciaga – you obviously gave him a good reference! What few words did you say about him? What did he bring to the ISWAI table? Michael is great, he really represents everything you look for in a designer, we were so obsessed by what he sent in. It was hard to choose from his designs. He has a unique eye and a quirky style that separates him from a lot of other people. It’s great seeing his career going from strength to strength. You like introducing new talent which we think is great for giving budding new designers a platform. Why are you so keen on new faces? Because I can empathise with them. It’s tough trying to break into the fashion industry, and […]

Anna Dello Russo vs. Lily Collins…Who wore Givenchy better?

Along with ‘It’ bags and must-have heels, cult sweatshirts and jumpers have gained serious traction in the past months. From the Kenzo eye sweater to Brian Lichtenberg’s collection of ‘Homies’ imprinted beanies and tops, logo mania has well and truly taken over. And now, this week’s fash-off contenders, Anna Dello Russo and Lily Collins, are also doing their bit for branding by sporting the same sell-out Givenchy Bambi print jumper – at the same event! Attending the spring/summer 2014 Givenchy runway show in Paris, the editor famed for taking “fashion showers” was spotted outside the show venue, aptly in said sweater. Needing no introduction to the camera, Anna Dello Russo teamed hers with a waist-cinching belt, black clutch and statement ankle boots. But, not too far away (on the opposite side of the front row, we presume), Lily Collins was also wearing the same printed sweater, albeit with a very un-ADR spin. Going for more glam goth than golden glamazon, Lily went with a sheeny vampish lip, black ankle strap sandals and matching clutch. A selection of bracelets gave the final finishing touch. So, who wins in the battle of the Bambis? Oh, we do love you ADR, but that tan and accessory overkill just isn’t working for us. Fashion shower detox, maybe? Lily, you’ve got this one hands down. Agree with our style verdict? Whose look wins for you? Tell us in the comments section below! Givenchy Bambi and female form print jumper, £853.51, available at Barneys. [Image: Anna; Lily]

Charlotte Olympia Sweet Dolly Pumps: Yay or Nay?

Safe to say, we’ve found a new kinda candy crush this a.m., and it looks nothing like an addictive game! Enter, the heart rate (and blood sugar level) raising Charlotte Olympia Sweet Dolly pumps (£658). The shoe genius has done it once again, and enticed us into the candy store of all candy stores (the one-click-away shoe section), not to mention made us want to adorn our feet with the best in retro sweeties! Reinventing the signature Dolly pump with a sweet shop spin, the Sweet Dolly pumps feature a candy-floss pink suede exterior, decorated with an optional, faux-candy ankle adornment, that’ll see you reliving sweet childhood memories with a well-heeled (pardon the pun) edge. Need a little help deciding, before letting your sweet tooth run riot? Check out the reasons we’re saying Yay and Nay to the Sweet Dolly pumps below: Yay Classic Style: The Dolly pump is Charlotte Olympia’s signature style and its instantly recognisable appeal make us want it even more! Easy-to-wear colour: After the season’s biggest hit – the candy-floss pink coat – why not let this shade supreme rule over your shoe closet, too? Optional ankle adornment: Not feeling a retro revival? The optional faux-candy ankle adornment can be detached, for when you’re feeling ultra-sophisticated. Just remember not to eat it!  Nay Super-high heels: At a staggering 5.5 inches, you’ll be tottering above the rest of your friends for sure! These heels are definitely for those who’ve mastered the art of staying upright in vertiginous heels. Price: At a not-so-small £658, the Sweet Dolly pumps certainly won’t be the cheapest addition to your shoe closet. Weatherproof: Ah, good ole’ suede: the not-so-splash-proof fabric of choice. If you cried at your black suede boots getting destroyed by surprise downpours, then suede in the softest of pinks may […]

Miley Cyrus is Worst Dressed of the Week at 2013 MTV EMAs

Crikey! Miley Cyrus has been busy recently, upstaging her twerking antics at this year’s MTV EMAs with a rather, erm, questionable outfit. But, then again, did you expect anything less (revealing) from Miley CRay Cyrus? (Sorry, we just had to!) Suspicious smoking materials aside – we’re still recovering from that on-stage light up – Miley made sure pretty much every photog’s lens was focused on her taut existence, while everything about her outfit forced the knots in our stomachs tighter. After all, her affection for dressing up without clothes seems like a habit that will die hard, and we’re not too surprised. Rocking up on the red carpet in a New York Vintage halter neck dress, featuring images of legendary rap rivals Tupac and Biggie plastered across her tiny body, Miley looked, well, like Miley! Could this have been an ode to her recent liaison with the rap world? Or, maybe, she was subliminally hinting towards ending a feud; the one between her and the world? Well, whatever her intentions, she sure got us talking. Accessorising with the usual smattering of diamond and gold chains and an air of ‘don’t care’, strong brows, a side-swept crop and monochrome over-the-knee-boots Tom Ford boots from the Fall 2013 collection completed her look. Although we’re digging the boots – they could totally work with an oversize knit – that dress, with its tacky lace-up detail and face prints that remind us of Spice Girls concert merchandise are a BIG no. No. Just no. Who was your Worst Dressed of the Week? Did anyone top Miley? [Image]

Must have shoes for Autumn & Winter!

The transition from spring/summer to autumn/winter can be a tough one to make. Although we have long since waved goodbye to shorts and T-shirts, the relatively dry weather means we are still wearing our cute ballet pumps and flimsy plimsolls. However, when the winter turns really nasty, as it did just the other week with the St Jude storm battering southern parts of the UK, we’ll need more substantial footwear. That’s why we’ve put together this handy guide of all the essential footwear you’ll require to see out the colder months. 1. Everyday boot In order to tackle the rain and snow, you’ll need a practical pair of boots for everyday wear. Tottering around on heels when it is icy underfoot is hardly appropriate, so go for a pair of flat boots instead. Doctor Martins are a great option, having been seen on the feet of many fashionistas, with a following that includes Jessica Alba, Miley Cyrus and Gwen Stefani. This timeless boot has been a fashion staple for years – it never seems to date! They are available in a range of colours, but to nail this season’s trend, we’d recommend going for an oxblood or navy colour to create a stylish punk look. 2. Formal boot You will fail to see the benefit of wearing a pair of strappy sandals on a night out when you’re standing in the taxi queue in what feels like sub-arctic conditions. Go for a heeled ankle boot instead – you will have all of the sophistication of your heels, with the added benefits of warm toes too. Check out the range of Gabor shoes available from Charles Clinkard – they have some great ankle boots like these that would complement a tights and skirt combo beautifully. 3. The party shoe Although we […]

4 Reasons why Nicholas Ghesquière is a godsend for Louis Vuitton

If you haven’t already heard about the second biggest fashion mover shaker story of the year, well, where have you been? Nicholas Ghesquèire – yes, he, the good-looking French man who broke it off with Balenciaga last year – has taken the reins at Louis Vuitton, sending Marc Jacobs on his way to solely mollycoddle (in the nicest sense) his hugely successful, eponymous Marc Jacobs label. Shock. Horror. Sudden, frozen fashion beings spotted across various cities, all staring at their phones as the news breaks. And, we’re guilty as charged. However, Vuitton’s latest artistic director recruit has got us excited on so many levels, and it seems were not the only ones. Ghesquèire’s move to Louis Vuitton has, to some extent, been embraced with a more welcoming stance than when Wang replaced him as creative director at Balenciaga. Are we surprised? Yes, a little. Do we think NG is capable of recreating the same magic at LV as Marc Jacobs? Read on to find out: Knows a cult product Hello, Ceinture boots, celeb-favourite Lariat bag and monochrome ruffles! Since Ghesquèire’s tenure at Balenciaga, his collections have been certified best-sellers, with some iconic pieces becoming too-hot-to-track-down must-haves. (See said boots) Rework the mundane monogram Although we’re big fans of the luxury French fashion house, fashion has, in recent times, distanced itself from the outré and oh so recognisable. Maybe a toned down reworking of the iconic ‘LV’ monogram may be on the cards? Sole focus on the “hyper luxury” brand Ghesquèire’s ability to put all his creative strength into further strengthening the Vuitton brand, rather than becoming another victim of design burnout, could do wonders for what is now, according to Forbes, one of the top ten luxury fashion brands in the world – the only one out of the major […]

Steep vs. Cheap: Shearling tote

You probably own a pair of snug, snow-proof shearling boots. Even a trusty shearling jacket that you dust off once the annual chill sets in is a wardrobe staple. But have you ever owned a shearling tote? Probably not, which is why we’ve tracked down the hottest styles you’ll want to add to your bag collection right away. Stretching from high-end to high street, we’ve picked out two totes to suit both a generous and limited budget, and we’re pretty sure you’ll fall for their hold-me-now appeal! Coming in at the steep end this week; the Fendi 2Jours shearling tote is preying on our bank balances. Sitting pretty at an eye-popping £2,478, you can expect all the usual luxe trimmings. Enveloped in lamb shearling, this classic arm candy from Fendi comes with a detachable leather shoulder strap, and makes for a perfect everyday bag with a season-appropriate slant. If you’ve got the cash, we’d recommend splashing it on this keeper – you won’t regret it. But, if you’re budget doesn’t stretch to such extremes (unsurprisingly), fear not – we’ve tracked down an equally desirable shearling tote, minus the fashion fun depleting price tag! Look to Kate Middleton’s go-to brand, L.K.Bennett, to snap up the Vanessa shearling tote for a not-so-dangerous £495. All the fashion cred, without the financial drought; perfect. Adding some colour to your office wardrobe

The drop in temperature and the dark nights have confirmed it; fall has definitely arrived. We love the opportunity that fall brings to rejuvenate our wardrobes with the latest trends and styles from the catwalks. Being in the office doesn’t means that you have to sacrifice style and elegance for conservative dressing. We’ve picked out some fantastic pieces, to inject a bit of life and glamour into your office wardrobes – which is exactly what’s needed when the weather takes a turn for the worst. When it comes to office fashion, practicality is just as important as style. Every working woman needs a suitable bag to carry her laptop and paperwork into the office, although thankfully, there are some great designs out there that are functional and fabulous. We’ve fallen in love with this purple leather laptop bag, from the collection of unique laptop bags at Teals Boutique. The design of the bag is classic, but that vibrant purple tone would be fantastic with a simple black coat and boots, complemented by a matching purple scarf. The pre-winter chills call for some warming accessories. Hats, gloves and scarves are a fantastic way to add some colour to your office wardrobe. These gorgeous red leather gloves by Paul Smith, available at Jules B, are simple, classic and elegant. I particularly love the small detailing of the bows in the signature Paul Smith swirl. Injecting colour into your office wardrobe is all about contrasts. The pieces I’ve chosen make for dramatic, vibrant accessories when paired with block colours like black, grey and navy. To really add some life to your office wardrobe, nothing works better than a pair of classic stilettos in a bold shade, like these red high heels from ASOS. We all need something to brighten up those cold autumn […]

What we really think of Tamara Mellon’s debut fashion collection

When news of Tamara Mellon’s debut fashion collection fell on our ears – yes, she of the sexy Choo shoe empire – we were beyond ecstatic. Glossed to perfection, this business and fashion stalwart won the industry over a very long time, when she was busy ruling the world of fashionable footwear at the helm of Jimmy Choo. But, since her departure from the luxury brand, Tamara hasn’t wandered too far from the fashion world. Launching to complement her autobiography, In My Shoes, Tamara’s eponymous lifestyle collection is inspired by an interestingly creative mix of mirrors and Guy Bourdin, and hits selected luxury retailers from November 2013. Finding the perfect halfway house between trend-centric style and wardrobe staples, Tamara’s collection won’t be an in-then-out affair. In fact, fashion lovers can expect seasonal capsule collections to drop in stores monthly – no more coats in July and bikinis in February! Reflecting her own “sexy but not vulgar Helmut Newton” style, the collection features statement pieces aplenty: a fringed leather midi skirt; gauzy mini dresses with leather undergarments; top-to-toe leopard looks and enough LBDs to warrant leg flashing – even in winter! Check out what we thought of the collection below: What we like: A navy jumpsuit, featuring front slit bottoms, is perfect when styled with statement accessories. Luxe basics, such as billowing blouses and skinny jeans worn with leather calf and over-the-knee boots are ideal wardrobe investments. What we love: A top-to-toe white suit, inspired by Bianca Jagger in her Studio 54 heyday, punctuated with a leopard print bag. Both the updated leopard print trench and bomber jacket are set to become certified style set favourites! What we’re not sure about: Apart from being a little on the nippy side, you’ll need a strong dose of fashion courage to slip into the gauzy […]

Treat him to…..

We all know that men can be a nightmare to shop for. They are insufferably vague and don’t give you the slightest idea on what gift avenues to take. That’s why we suggest you go out your way to surprise him this festive period. Update his wardrobe with some items he’d never think to buy himself. Here are three ideas to guide you: An urban sweatshirt Thanks to the likes of Plan B, urban clothing has exploded in popularity this year. As the winter chills begin to take hold, snapbacks and vests may not be the most appropriate choice at the moment. We’d recommend picking out a sweatshirt from the excellent range of King Apparel clothing from Capology. Dark shades are very fashionable at this time of year for men, but we’re also fond of more colourful sweats like this blue Warriors Crew top. A splash of colour goes a long way during this dark season. A pair of winter boots Heavy downpours and frosty mornings mean that his old pair of canvas slip-ons will no longer provide adequate protection and warmth from the elements. These Dr Martens, available from Schuh, keep his feet toasty on bang-on trend this season, as he braves the winter weather. The eight eye lace up ankle boot has a man made insole and features the signature yellow stitch detail around the base. Who said it practicality and style can’t go together? A hat and scarf Don’t worry about denting your man’s pride by getting him to wrap up. Complete his winter look by leaving a chunky scarf and beanie under the Christmas tree. Street grunge is a trend that loves to come out as the days get darker, apply this idea to his accessories. This oversized cable knit scarf from Topman, will take him […]

Steep vs. Cheap: Lace cami top

Thanks to the sexily sleepy Louis Vuitton  AW ’13 collection, the style set were all over the idea of sleepwear as outerwear. Lace-trimmed camisole tops and dresses, worn beneath oversized coats and completed with a dark stain on the lips is the look du jour for the new season, and we’re in. Not content with just being a day-to-night option, the lace camisole is enjoying its newly acquired wardrobe staple status; worn with wide-leg trousers and a tuxedo jacket for a refreshing slant on Le Smoking, or paired with skinny jeans, a cashmere knit and boots for an easy day look. Had trouble tracking down the perfect camisole to suit you budget or style? Don’t fret, because we’ve done the legwork and picked out two gorgeous styles that sit either end of the spectrum. Up first at the steep end, the lace-trimmed silk camisole from Antonio Berardi (£600) is a winner for those looking to make a luxe investment. Delicately crafted from pure silk, we love the skinny shoulder straps and sheer black and beige lace detail. Saint Laurent Tartan Dress: Yay or Nay?

Oh, the joy! Remember when Hedi Slimane shunned all elements of a Parisian nonchalance and, instead, offered us Courtney Love on the runway? Yes, we’re talking about his unabashedly grunge-drenched autumn/winter ’13 collection for Saint Laurent. Plaid, tartan and sequins aplenty, fashioned into suitably louche (we call is glamorously lazy) dresses, knits and shirts, we couldn’t help but pick out a few winners from the collection. And one of the chosen designs that had us whopping with sartorial joy was this preppy (think Alexa Chung holidays in the Scottish Highlands) embellished tartan wool dress. Putting a razor shape slant on a classically feminine shape and style of dress, we love the mesh-lined knife pleats and sequin bow-detail neckline, not forgetting the spiked crystal embellishment at the waistline. But being the savvy shoppers we are, we’re going to take a rational approach to Californicating our wardrobes, by considering the yays and nays of buying this girly-goes-gritty number below: Yay Ideal length: The thigh grazing mini dress is ideal for pairing with tights, ankle boots and a cardigan for the full Saint Laurent effect. Or, wear it as a pleated mini skirt, by pairing with a cosy, block colour jumper. Day-to-night dress: The traditional tartan wool print is a great winter wardrobe hit, whilst the sweet-yet-tough embellishments wouldn’t put you out of place at an impromptu post-work party. Classic tartan: The runways were awash with tartan, plaid and all manner of check prints for autumn/winter ’13, but a classic tartan print never ages (and is possible more attractive than the laundry bag print celebrated at Céline.) Nay Trend-centric: Dreading the one-wear-then-despair situation? Although tartan is a cyclical trend, this was also one of the most talked about Saint Laurent collections. Figuring out whether you want a piece from a popular collection and […]

Steep vs. Cheap: Embellished mini skirt

Afraid of an unflattering midi skirt? Worried your derrière won’t be up to scratch, squeezed into a leather pencil skirt? Let us introduce you this week’s Steep vs. Cheap option, and your go-between sartorial saviour, the mini skirt. Upping the glam ante, this updated autumn staple (who said minis were the reserve of hot summer days?) comes decorated with beautiful embellishment, and we can’t wait to pair it with our cosiest knit and an on-trend pair of ankle boots. Coming in at the pricey end this week is the Loop Studded Twill mini skirt by Isabel Marant (£630). Low-slung on the hips, this mini promises a healthy dose of Parisian cool with a rock ‘n’ roll edge – the flattering wrap front detail is a total winner! But parting with a hefty sum of £630 may leave your bank balance feeling as ‘mini’ as this pretty skirt! But if you want in on the thigh-grazing skirt trend and can’t justify forking out your rainy day savings, just turn to high street haunt Zara for your fix. Cashing in at a pocket pleasing £39.99, the Jacquard Beaded Waist mini skirt also features a wrap front, whilst the bead detailing gives the illusion of an embellished belt – the perfect piece to take you into autumn. Will you splurge or save?

Rita Ora vs. Ciara…Who wore Emilio Pucci better?

We can always expect dresses with serious style bite to stride down the Emilio Pucci runway. And this week’s Who Wore it Better contestants are battling it out in a dress by none other than Mr. Peter Dundas –  a man who knows how to make maximum impact with minimum length. Parading their gorgeous bods in a striking, barqoue-print studded mini dress this week are Rita Ora and Ciara, who both wore the same dress from the autumn/winter 2013 collection, albeit months apart. First up, Rita Ora slipped into the printed mini at the Chime for Change after party back in June. Pairing the dress with Casadei gladiator heels; her icy blonde barnet was styled into a retro-inspired, curly up do, accented by strong brows and her signature red lip. But giving the dress its second outing was Ciara, who wore it to the Emilio Pucci store opening on Avenue Montaigne during Paris Fashion Week. Replicating the runway look, Ciara wore the dress with over-the-knee boots, keeping her hair and makeup pretty subdued. Now, who to choose as this week’s fash-off champ? Well, given both ladies put their personal spin on the dress, we’ve fallen head over boots in love with Ciara’s take on the runway piece. Neutral makeup, Frenchie bed head hair and THOSE boots are true winners for us, putting Rita’s more is more approach firmly in the no-no pile. Agree with our style verdict? Let us know your thoughts below.
