The Best Baby Shoe Styles For 2019

There might not be anything in the world as cute as baby shoes. Teeny-tiny varieties of your favorite footwear are enough to make any heart melt. Like kid and adult fashion, styles for baby shoes change through the years, so if you want your baby to look fly, you need to stay ahead of next season’s looks. Here is a peak at what’s likely to come in style in 2019, so you can invest early in upcoming looks. First, a Message About Baby Shoes As heart-breakingly cute as it is to see your infant dressed up like an adult — fresh kicks and all — you should be careful how often you strap shoes to your little one’s feet. Studies on footwear and babies show that too much time spent in shoes is bad for your kid’s development. There are several reasons for this: The feet are covered in 200,000 nerve endings. This makes your baby’s feet critical sensory organs for detecting and understanding the world around them. By covering up your baby’s feet in shoes, you are limiting the amount of information they can receive — the temperatures and textures they feel, etc. — and thus hampering their ability to perceive their environment and learn from it. Baby’s bones remain soft for several months. You likely know that your baby’s skull is soft for a while after birth, but the truth is that all their bones will remain pliable for up to a year and a half. By shoving your baby into shoes, you could be forcing their foot bones to align and grow improperly, impacting their ability to stand, move and fit into footwear for the rest of their life. Footwear can decrease coordination, especially at early stages of development. Because shoes are broader and stiffer than bare […]

5 Winter Shoe Styles Every Woman Should Own

Everyone knows that if you keep your feet and your hands warm, then the chances are that the rest of your body will stay warm too. With that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of the 5 best shoe styles that you need to own this winter. Stay warm and look the part for every occasion with our favourites. The Black Heeled Knee-High The black knee-high boot can look super classy and can also keep your calves a little warmer, as it technically works as an extra layer. The knee high pretty much only came back in two years ago, and before then a lot of people saw the knee high as a classic ‘Pretty Woman’ accessory. Black obviously goes with most things, but we’ve seen a lot of people rocking burgundy with a pair of blue jeans, which always looks great. The Classic Chelsea Boot Chelsea boots are a great shoe to wear during autumn and during winter, and they go with any outfit. These black Chelsea boots from Crew Clothing are perfect to pair with a skirt and tights, or even under some jeans. They also come with a little heel so that they can add a bit of height but are small enough that you can wear them to work and/or for a coffee date. The Black Heeled Sock Boot If you’re feeling a little scruffy and you want to make your jeans and jumper look much better, then the trick is to add a little heel to your outfit. The black heeled sock boot is the perfect sort. How to Transition Summer Pieces into Fall

Unless you’re independently wealthy, there’s a good chance you don’t have the funds (or the energy, for that matter) to invest in a brand-new wardrobe every time the seasons change. But luckily, it doesn’t take a whole lot more than some creativity and vision to style your favorite wardrobe staples so they work year-round. Chances are you’ve already got a few essential items that look right at home both at a bonfire and a barbecue, so don’t write off your summer faves the minute the pumpkin spice lattes roll around. Pick Your Most Versatile Pieces Sure, we all have those bright and fun pieces that are reserved exclusively for summer ensembles, but then we have those anytime styles that shine bright year-round. Your summer-to-fall strategy should include denim at every length (even shorts, ankle-length jeans and capris), a couple of cute button-ups, some basic tees and ample jackets. It helps if you get in the mindset of shopping for adaptability. We’re not saying that you should shop basic, but instead that you should look for patterns, colors, materials and cuts that are easy to layer and adjust to the season. If you need advice figuring out where to start with regard to versatility, consider transitioning to a capsule wardrobe rather than filling your closet with all statement pieces. Layer Like a Boss Rule number one of transitional style: Say yes to the vest. We mean this metaphorically of course, but seriously, a quilted monogram vest is probably not going to let you down in late summer and early fall, no matter how you style it. When the temps start to cool off, transition your favorite tees and tanks from steal-the-show statements to basic base layers to lay the foundation for multi-season style. The same light jackets you wore boating and […]

Meet Margaret de Heinrich Co-Founder of Global Beauty Brand Omorovicza

We’ve previously raved about our love for beauty brand Omorovicza, especially their amazing deep cleaning cleansing mask and gold sugar scrub which have both become firm fixtures in our weekly beauty routine, so naturally we jumped at the chance to interview co-founder of the brand Margaret de Heinrich. Founded in 2006 by Margaret and her husband, Stephen de Heinrich de Omorovicza, the formidable husband and wife team have grown Omorovicza into a successful global company adored by beauty insiders whom can’t get enough of their line of luxury skincare products. Here we get to know more about the woman behind the brand. What’s a typical working day like for you? Typically, I wake up at 5:45am and do meditation and work out, trying to get a bit of clarity before the chaos begins of getting 4 young children up and ready for school.  After drop off, I head to the office and my work day is filled with meetings ranging from new products, distribution, creative, marketing, PR, HR….  At around 4, I leave to pick up the children and then it is homework, and getting them sorted with dinner and bedtime.  I travel a lot for work and there are often lunches or dinner with our clients. Most enjoyable and challenging aspect of your job? I absolutely love building Omorovicza – helping to shape and grow our brand from the ground up is exciting especially the variety of things I get to work on, making every day unique. The challenging aspect of this is trying to balance work and family – as an entrepreneur and mother – there are lots of things pulling on my time and heart. Top tips for maintaining a work/life balance? This is really difficult and I wish more women spoke up honestly about these challenges. There are sadly no short […]

We’re Not Really Too Keen On Victoria Beckham’s Latest Outfit. Are You?

Victoria Beckham took to the streets of New York yesterday in an outfit we’re not too sure about. We do love our Victoria’s sense of style, however she’s not immune to a fashion faux-pas here and there and for us, this is a great example of the very few times, the designer gets it wrong. A quick glance and you’d think Victoria was dressed in a military inspired boilersuit, however, always ahead of the game, she is in fact wearing a khaki shirt with a sharp collar and matching trousers from her autumn/winter 2018 collection. In true minimalist fashion, Victoria kept her contemporary look clean with a black crossbody bag, leather boots and oversized shades. Our opinion? The bag looks out of place and while as we said earlier, Victoria usually manages to pull of most ensembles, this just seems a bit “try hard” to us. Thoughts?

Kim Kardashian Pairs Snakeskin With Neon: Yay or Nay?

One thing Kim Kardashian can’t be accused of? Stepping out of her comfort zone. Although we usually tend to see the reality star and now mother-of-three, in neutral shades, she’s proven time and time again that she’s not afraid to take the odd fashion risk. Case in point, on Friday, Kim opted for a pair of snakeskin trousers, teamed with Yeezy’s python mid-calf boots and a neon yellow long-sleeved top for a date night with hubby Kanye to watch a private film screening at his Calabasas office. While we give Kim a 10 out of 10 for mixing it up a bit, we’re not too keen on her outfit of choice. Are you? Yay or Nay? [Image]

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s official walkabout in Nottingham

And so Meghan’s new life as a British Royal has officially begun. Today Meghan and Prince Harry paid a visit to Nottingham to raise awareness of HIV/Aids and efforts to tackle youth crime. Starting the day off with a walkabout, Meghan was introduced to the British public at the National Justice Museum in Nottingham’s historic Lace Market district. Afterwards, the newly-engaged couple moved on to the Nottingham Contemporary Exhibition Centre to attend the Terrence Higgins Trust World Aids Day charity fair, followed with a trip to the Nottingham Academy to meet head teachers taking part in the Full Effect programme. Meghan stayed warm in a double-breasted navy military maxi coat by Canadian brand Mackage, a black sweater by Wolford, a camel tea-length skirt by Joseph and KG by Kurt Geiger Violet black suede over the knee boots As for her arm candy, she complimented her outfit with the Nano Tote from Strathberry in burgundy, navy, and vanilla. Both her coat and top are recycled. Meghan was spotted wearing the Mackage’s military style coat earlier this year in Toronto airport and from what we can tell, she’s wearing the same Wolford sweater here during an appearance on The Today Show in March last year. We also witnessed Meghan’s love for Mackage during the Invictus games opening ceremony at which she wore an edgy leather jacket from the label.

How To Accumulate A Savings Umbrella For A Rainy Day

Rainy days were always the worst as a child. Unable to go out and play, stuck inside with the same old colouring books and the same old films on the TV. But they’re even worse now you’re all grown up. Rainy days as an adult don’t involve weather at all but instead an emergency expense that can push your financial stability to its limit. Whether it’s a washing machine breakdown, a car battery failure while out of town or a surprise parking ticket, rainy days need to be prepared for. Not with wellington boots though but with a good savings umbrella. If you want to be sure you’re always protected in those bleak, damp hours here’s how to accumulate enough savings to shelter you from the storm: Set a goal It’s important when saving that you have a goal in mind to work towards, otherwise you may be inclined to be a little cheeky on slower months and dip into this savings account. Think about those past expensive last minute expenses and how much they usually cost, then aim for a figure that covers these. £300 is a good amount, the average cost of labour per hour for a mechanic to fix your car is £56 for example – add parts and VAT on top and something going wrong on your vehicle can quickly add up. Another common expense is a white good that you use every day breaking down – such as your washing machine or fridge. Of course, the cost of this all depends on what has broken and what part has gone wrong. You can pick up spare parts online ready for a professional to install, to save money, but £100 to £200 is probably a good amount to have spare for if such a problem should […]

Mix and match: The best ways to stretch your wardrobe

Sometimes, buying a whole new seasonal wardrobe just isn’t possible, whether it’s because you don’t have the funds or the time to scour the high street for what’s on trend. This is why it pays to mix and match with a few statement pieces to really stretch that wardrobe. Unsure how to go about doing this? Here’s are some of the best ways: Buy into basics Basic t-shirts, jeans and jackets are easy to throw on and evergreen pieces will never look off trend. Look for plain oversized t-shirts and pair one of these with skinny jeans and high tops for simple casual style, a simple skater dress and heels works for nights out or even days spent in the office. Opt for easy to style colours such as black, khaki, white and navy to ensure that wardrobe can stretch as far as possible. Stock investment pieces Your outerwear should make an impression and that’s why it’s a good idea to invest in one of the hottest women’s summer jackets this season. This means making your choice from embroidered denim, quilted bombers and smart trench coats and pairing these with the basics of your choice. One great jacket can truly make a whole wardrobe and is a key piece to base whole outfits from, making it super easy to stretch what clothes you already have. The right shoes They say shoes make an outfit, so opt for a pair that go with everything and you’re set for the months ahead. In the summer, a simple pair of flat sandals that don’t kill your feet are ideal while in the winter ankle boots go with everything and can even be pulled out once autumn rolls around. Dabble in last season It’s so easy to adopt a piece that was huge last […]

Costa del Sol’s Most Serene Villages

Spain’s charms are well documented. What could possibly top siestas by the beach, paellas in the evening and salsa under the moonlight, after all. The Costa del Sol holds such traditions close to its heart, and for good reason. The coves and plazas are littered with pearlescent buildings and glistening seas, but here’s a few of its unsung inland hotspots perfect for a classy getaway… Mijas  Perched in the hills overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, Mijas embodies Andalucian charm at its finest. It’s not far from Malaga airport, but once you get there prepare to ditch your cab for the traditional method of transport here –  the burro taxi. These are small donkeys who’ll help take you up the town’s steep hills, albeit at a price. Holiday homes here give you unrivalled views over the surrounding region, particularly those from the rental company Villa Plus. Mijas is lucky enough to have some of the Costa del Sol’s best markets, why not combine scenery and succulent ingredients and bring the town’s charms back to your terrace for a self-catered evening? Frigiliana Similar to Mijas, the best way to explore Frigiliana is by foot. These narrow streets are authentically Spanish, with hidden tapas restaurants dotted throughout to prove it. It’s a beautiful contrast of modern and traditionalist architecture, boasting contemporary and Moorish charms in equal measures. Visit the San Antonio church, or grab your walking boots and climb to the top of the village and the ruins of the castle. Many eateries here pride themselves on world-class views, so you’ll be able to enjoy a leisurely European lunch with a view.  Ronda  Some of history’s greats – think Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles – have hailed the town of Ronda in no short measures, and at first glance it’s easy to see why. You […]

How to Dress for a Job That’s Hard Work

Not all of us have the desire or privilege to work at a job where we can wear impressive, expensive clothes. High paying jobs are often a fashion show in the board room, with executives sporting tailored clothes of fine fabrics from impressive designers. Then there are the rest of us – some of whom work in settings like restaurants, the outdoors, healthcare, and more. There can be a temptation to neglect your clothing and appearance, just because the rules of your workplace obligate you to dress a certain way. It’s easy to think that because your clothes will so closely resemble those of the rest of the staff, that you can wear something a little sloppy, and just “fade into the crowd”. This is particularly true in our first example: people who work in restaurants. No matter whether you are a chef or you work front of house, there is a good way and a bad way to approach your daily dress. Even if you are limited to pants, shoes, and jacket of a specific color and fabric, there is still plenty of room for individuality. www.chefworks.com has a many examples of chef wear that is interesting and attractive, while exceeding the quality standards of many common retailers. Instead, focus on quality and fit of everything you buy. Have two, three, or more jackets so that you always have one cleaned and pressed for work, even if you haven’t had time to do laundry recently. Buy shoes that are comfortable and of high enough quality to be easily cleaned, without getting quickly worn out. Have clothes tailored so that you appear trim and professional, without being uncomfortable. Fit is an especially important for people who work hard over many long hours. It’s possible for clothes to look proper and […]

This is a festival that brings it back to basics with music, people and nature at the heart of everything it strives to do. What does ‘Deepdale Hygge’ Festival mean? The month of March is Deepdale’s birthday. To celebrate Deepdale’s birthday this year, the site encourages guests to partake in a music festival like no other. Now, what is a ‘hygge’? Hygge is Danish for ‘enjoying life’s simple pleasures’. Whether that’s music, sharing experiences with good friends, or laying in nature and enjoying the stars above… Deepdale Hygge promises that you’ll appreciate all that life has to offer during this festival away from it all. When is it? Friday 24th to Sunday 26th March 2017 Where is it? Chris Pratt’s Transformation to Leading Man and Style Icon

Chris Pratt is a Hollywood sensation. In the span of three years he went from being a successful television comedy actor to Hollywood’s go-to leading man. This December he starred alongside Jennifer Lawrence in Passengers and will return next year to the role that made him a star in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2. Alongside his leading man status, Pratt has also become a style icon and inspiration to men. Arguably the biggest reason that Chris Pratt has become a style role model is that he proves that becoming a Hollywood leading man is possible to us mere mortals. GQ’s article on Pratt’s best red carpet looks went back to before Guardian’s of the Galaxy and noted that while he didn’t dress badly, his style was a lot more causal and relaxed than his sharp appearances now.   Chris Pratt’s transformation has been one of the biggest topics in Hollywood and men’s health and style magazines. During the press tour of Guardians of the Galaxy, Self.com reported that a fan asked Pratt about his weight loss. Pratt responded with an encouraging message telling the fan to start exercising as “six months seems like a long time unless you’re looking backwards.” It is this humbleness and honesty that has endeared Pratt to many fans across the world. When it comes to style Pratt is also as open about his change in attitude as he is about his weight loss. Speaking to InStyle he spoke of how he used to be “a guy who wore, like, cargo shorts and a T-shirt…now I’m a little more cognizant of my choices. I don’t just passively have stylists put whatever they want on me. I pay attention.” Despite all the suits he has worn since achieving fame when asked what was his most essential item […]

For us, statement winter coats that are worth investing in have to be bold and eye catching and preferably faux fur. Yes, we do love faux-fur here at MFL HQ, that’s no secret. We especially love faux-fur coats during party season as they’re the perfect cover up for that extra glam factor. Best of all, they’re timeless and oh so warm! Romantic Outfits For Cosy Winter Evenings

Winter evenings can be cold, bleak and sometimes rainy; it is too easy to put your romance life on hibernation mode during winter. However, it is important to keep date nights frequent to keep the fire burning between you and your partner, especially or even if you have been together for a long time. As the winter chill grows stronger, an adjustment to our wardrobes is essential. A little extra care to styling your outfits is much needed to avoid looking like Michelin Man or a marshmallow when you start layering your clothes. There are many ways for you to create romantic outfits that are cosy and warm without compromising your feminine, edgy, classic or bohemian style. Cool chic Kendall Jenner is the epitome of cool these days and for good reasons—her off-catwalk looks are relatable and can be recreated. This black-and-white ensemble is chic enough for a dinner at a fancy restaurant but casual enough for a movie after. Layer a bodycon sweater dress under a thin duster coat for the right amount of warmth—finish the look with white trainers and a great classic bag. Black or White If you are not for constrictive dresses, take out your white summer dress (this will brighten up your face) and wear a pair of tights underneath it to keep your legs warm. Slip on a pair of ankle boots and pull on a great trench coat, ala Grace Atwood, before you head out for a romantic dinner with your significant other. If the very idea of pulling anything out of your summer closet puts you off, then go for a leather black coat – pair it with patterned trousers and classic oxford shoes for a chic look! Opposites attract Rach Parcell showed that the juxtaposition of black and pink is beautiful. […]

Staying Trendy on the Slopes: a Guide to Winter Resort Casualwear

Winter would simply be incomplete without some fun in the snow. And what’s more fun than a gorgeous ski vacation? With so many wonderful resorts and destinations to choose from, and ski vacation companies like Snowtrex offering fantastic ski holiday deals for pretty much each one of them, narrowing down where you want to go can be difficult. However, whether you’ve already booked your ski holiday or are still trying to decide, you are going to want to consider your winter resort wardrobe as well. Resort Wardrobe Must-haves The Right Boots Of course no winter wardrobe, let alone a ski resort wardrobe, would be complete without an exceptional pair of winter boots. They need to be stylish, but also warm and water proof – see our winter boot buying guide. We would suggest a practical and sporty model for heading up to the slopes – something like Sorel – as well as a cute and comfortable ankle boot for when you’re out and about in the restaurants, cafes, and bars, or a comfy pair of Uggs for when you’re fireside. A Quality Ski Suit When it comes to the actual ski wardrobe, brands like Spyder, Obermeyer, and The North Face have the right outfits to keep you moving, warm, and on-point. You can find some of these brands at winter women, among others. When shopping, keep in mind that the current sportswear trend is still promoting color-blocking, with bright pink and grey combinations being particularly popular. Warm Lounging Attire Of course part of the whole ski vacation is enjoying the ski resort and quaint town. In order to look good on and off the slopes, you need great lounging attire included in your resort casual wardrobe. From warm knit sweaters and dark wash jeans to plain or printed leggings and […]

Fresh Ways To Style The Classic Ankle Boot This Winter

For many of us, ankle boots are the ultimate winter footwear staple. They go with just about everything and can be dressed up or down with very little effort. Pair with jeans and an oversized coat for a casual daytime look, or team with a classic LBD to put a fresh twist on evening wear for the winter. There are countless ways to work this comfortable, statement piece into just about any outfit combination. A winter-appropriate take on evening wear Eveningwear is perhaps one of the most difficult ways to work the ankle boot, but it can be done with the right styling. Take a leaf out of Alexa Chung and Jessica Stein’s books by using boots to add a tough element to an otherwise feminine outfit. The more fanciful the dress the better, as the boots help to give this girly ensemble a cool, edgy vibe that stands high above the rest of the fashion pack. This look is particularly workable if you’re a little taller, as ankle boots make a welcome change to skyscraper heels.  If you still want to add some extra height, simply choose a boot with a platform or a statement heel – the tortoiseshell heel boots from Tu are perfect for making a statement on a budget. One thing’s for sure, the extra protection and structure you get from an ankle boot is certain to make the finished look extra comfortable. Keep it cosy with slouchy jumpers and midi skirts Much like dresses, skirts don’t typically lend themselves to being paired with boots that cut off at the ankle. If you style this the right way, you’re on to a winner – it’s a fresh look that was seen everywhere this London Fashion Week. The trick to making this look work is all about […]

How To Shop The End-Of-Season Sales Like A Fashion Insider

Yay! The end-of-season sales are nearly upon us. And with up to 70%,  this is hands down, one of the best times to acquire serious bargains. Thankfully these days the bulk of online shopping can be accomplished online, however there are still some handy sales tips that still apply and should be observed to ensure you get the most bang for your buck. Here’s our must-have guide to shopping the winter sales. 1. Research: List your fave stores and do a little digging to find out when their sales start and end. Knowing when your favourite stores are on sale is key to never missing out. Stay in the loop by following their social media feeds and signing up for alerts. 2. Wishlist:  Avoid the temptation of snapping up that Dolce & Gabbana dress that you’ll never wear, just because it’s 60% off. Conduct an in-depth wardrobe analysis, list every single piece you’ll need to complete and create new outfits.  Seek inspiration from your favourite streetstyle blogs and magazines and be very precise and concise. Shopping the sales with a clear idea of exactly what you want will make your life so much easier and will definitely save you tons of cash. 3. Opt for timeless pieces: Why are the end-of-season sales so popular? It’s the one time of year when designer pieces are heavily discounted. Take advantage and update your wardrobe with more classic, quality clothing and accessories guaranteed to last for seasons to come like a tailored coat for example, knee high boots or this great watch at WozNow. Avoid trend-led clothing, especially prints, as chances are the coveted trend is done and dusted and you’ll find yourself stuck with a pair of trousers or a top that will only see the light of day once. 4. Don’t settle: Ask yourself a series of essentials questions before hitting […]

We’ve Found The Perfect Velvet Blazer AND It’s On Sale!

If you didn’t get the memo – “velvet is HUGE for autumn”. It’s crept up on us slowly but it’s official, velvet has taken over where suede left off. From skirts (as seen on Victoria Beckham) and dresses (as worn beautifully by Blake Lively) to heels, boots and bags. Take a trip down to your nearest high street and you’ll see velvet on every item possible. But our favourite velvet crush at the moment has to be the blazer. And by the looks of it, we’re not the only ones loving the new take on this essential piece of transitional outerwear. With lots of velvet blazer options available from fitted, to crop and the boyfriend blazer, you wouldn’t be blamed for wanting them all. We sure do. The problem is, we can forsee the velvet trend being a micro-trend, so if you’re counting the pennies and would rather splurge on more timeless pieces, then we advise investing in a good quality blazer that isn’t too costly but will see you through the trend and most importantly is versatile enough to create as many outfit options as possible. Case in point, this luxe navy velvet blazer, which can be found over at Comptoir des Contonniers. Best of all, it’s on sale. Reduced from £155 to £108.50. #Love Pair with a white t-shirt, distressed jeans and tan boots for a casual look that’s easy to put together. Velvet blazer Twilight, £155, £108.50 available at Comptoir des Contonniers.

Stay On Trend This Winter With Our Top Tips

As much as we’d like to deny it, summer has left abruptly and it seems as though it’s taken autumn along with it. What we’re left with are short days, long nights and some very icy temperatures. And while it might pain you to pack away those shorts and T-shirts until next year, there are many clothing items you can look forward to breaking out before the snow starts to fall. Below, we’ll look at the latest trends as well as must-have pieces for the 2016 winter season. Puffer Jackets Undoubtedly one of the warmest pieces of outerwear available, puffer jackets have seen a resurgence in recent years. Not only that, but they’ve been dubbed one of seven statement pieces to have this winter and have been seen all over the AW16 catwalks. And while oversized puffer jackets might have been all the rage on the runways, you can find slightly more sensible and haute-couture versions at Uniqlo or Topshop. Invest in Basics Always understated but overwhelmingly necessary, basics such as blouses, stockings and cardigans are pieces which always seem to slip by unnoticed until you realize you need a surplus of all of them! They may be ubiquitous, but that’s not to say that these pieces need to be boring. You can pick up some simple, tasteful, and stylish pieces from places like Peter Hahn that will help augment statement items and complete a look. A Sharp-Shouldered Blazer 2016 is the year that the 80s has made a comeback. We’ve seen it not only in fashion, but generally throughout popular culture. So if you’re keen to take a cue from that trend, invest in a sharp-shouldered blazer that will go amazingly with a crop top and a pair of flat ankle boots. If you’re willing to go full 80s, […]

Fashionable Options For New Mothers

Becoming a mother for the first time, or even for the fifth, means that a woman’s priorities shift. This usually results in a new mom putting others before herself, which can mean she just throws on any old clothes that are comfortable. But being a mother need not be an excuse for ‘letting yourself go’. There are plenty of ways you can stick with your new responsibilities and still look good. Getting used to a new body shape The main problem most new mothers have when choosing what to wear each day is to find clothing that is suitable for their bodies in what is essentially a transition period. The big bump has gone but you will probably still have to deal with an enlarged, slightly flabby, stomach. The answer is to wear clothes that draw attention away from your stomach area. Pick clothing that focuses on the parts of your body that you are happy about, such as your bosom and your lower body. The ideal fabric for this transition period is one that drapes over your body so that no part of your clothing is clinging to unsightly lumps and bumps. If you can, choose clothes that have ruching and gathers, as these will draw the eye away from your stomach. Also opt for certain cuts that are much more flattering to pear and apple shapes, such as Empire-line dresses and tops; these are the ones that have a high waist, fitting snugly under the breasts. Do not be tempted to wear big, baggy clothes believing these will hide the parts of your body you do not want people to notice. These will just emphasize exactly what you are trying to hide. Instead, try combinations of draped clothing with those that are tight-fitting, such as wearing leggings or […]

6 Trends We’ll Be Coveting This Season

The best thing about a new season? Well, that’s easy. For lovers of fashion, it is and will always be experimenting with exciting, hot off the catwalk trends. And here at My Fashion Life, we’re no exception. Granted there are some autumn/winter trends that we’ll never let go of  anytime soon- for example skinny jeans, knee high boots and biker jackets to name a few. But for the most part, we’re open to stepping out of our comfort zone and giving the latest trends a good go.  This season however, is slightly different to the rest. Unlike past years when fashion has moved so fast that the number of micro-trends would literally make your head spin, recent times has witnessed fashion slowing down , and as a result many of our favourite trends have transcended seasons . The great thing about this has meant we’ve really gotten a chance to get our teeth sunk in to a trend and make it our own, as well as finding wonderful new ways to adapt it, to the changing weather. Here’s the trends we’re loving for this season.. 60’s & 70’s chic We’ve always loved both the 60’s and 70’s when it comes to style, and designers appear to feel the same way with the reappearance of many 60’s and 70’s iconic pieces making a comeback to the catwalks. The era that gave birth to style icons Twiggy and Bianca Jagger are here to stay. Stock up on vintage pieces such as flares, rock t-shirts, faux-fur coats and any other of your favourite pieces from that time of year. For some great finds, head to Sherrys London. We especially love their collection of colourful shift dresses. Prints From tweed to stripes to animal prints and polka dots on bags, trousers, tops, you name it, prints of any […]

Top Picks From Tom Ford’s Autumn/Winter 2016 Show

While New York Fashion Week is in full swing, we’re still overly obsessed with the Tom Ford presentation. Rather than adhere to the status quo of giving us a taste of what’s to come in spring/summer, Ford presented us with decadent, high-glam pieces for the current season – autumn/winter ’16. And even better, gave customers the luxury of buying everything they saw on the runway (which was live streamed) almost immediately online at mytheresa.com. Presenting the much anticipated collection at an exclusive private dinner at the Four season’s restaurant, guests included Iman, Uma Thurman, Naomi Campbell,  and many more famous faces. Staying true to his aesthetic, Ford’s collection certainly didn’t disappoint and models such as Carolyn Murphy, Amber Valetta, Binx Walton and Gigi Hadid strutted to tunes by Alicia Keys in plush 70’s inspired pieces. It’s safe to say that we absolutely adored the collection. Here’s our top picks! Stay Fashionable On Your Next Hiking Trip With This Gear

Just because you’re going on a challenging hiking adventure, doesn’t mean you need to wear bulky, unattractive clothing. Hiking trips are now very popular among female travellers, which is why finding fashionable hiking gear is much easier to do these days. In this article, we are going to take a look at how you can stay fashionable on your next hiking trip. Let’s get started, shall we? Boots & Hiking Shoes Hiking boots or shoes are the most important thing you will wear when hiking. How much you enjoy the trip depends highly on how comfortable your walking shoes are; comfort should always be your first priority when shopping for a pair of walking boots for women. Some boots are designed to be very chic while offering a perfect fit and maximum comfort. The Libero II Women’s Multi-Sport, for example, feature a gorgeous combination of charcoal and blossom pink, along with trendy design lines and simple accents. It’s one of the most comfortable hiking shoes on the market, and, as an added bonus, it’s also waterproof, which means you will be able to protect your feet whilst walking in wet places. A Sweater to Keep You Warm The best way to dress for hiking trips is to wear layers. Start with an undergarment made from cool synthetic material, then continue adding layers on top of that depending on the weather. A T-shirt and a jacket or a vest are usually enough for most hiking venues. For a dash of chicness, you can opt for a vest instead of a jacket. You can also wear your favorite sweater to keep warm. Sweaters are great, as long as they are made of a cotton-wool blend. This type of material allows your skin to breathe and will still keep you warm when the […]

Nail Experts The Walker Sisters Share Their Top Tips For Success…

The brains behind the Rococco Nail collection (which is adored by both industry professionals and beauty lovers alike), sister duo, Ange and Vernice Walker are renowned experts in their field. Personally requested  by designer Roland Mouret to develop a polish exclusively for his autumn/winter 2012 collection, the Walker sisters consult and have worked with a number of top designers and celebs including Burberry, Alexa Chung, Kelly Rowland and Cheryl Cole. We spoke with Ange and Vernice about everything from how to achieve healthy nails and their top tip for success… What’s your morning routine? Ange: I usually wake up quite early each morning as I’m excited to get going with the current project. After a quick look at the emails I’ll take about an hour for myself; I enjoy aromatherapy baths or showers as these allow me to have some peaceful time and space to think about my plans for the day and get into a positive frame of mind! Clarins Bath and Shower Concentrate is toning, aromatic and invigorating and the Scholl Velvet Smooth Express Pedi Wet & Dry quickly buffs, massages and stimulates my feet. I have very sensitive skin on my face so try to be gentle. A mild cleanser followed by Chantecaille face and eye serum keeps things simple yet treated and I always use an SPF moisturiser to protect my skin. I don’t usually eat breakfast or anything before 10am but do love the ritual of making freshly squeezed lemon or ginger tea with a little honey to cleanse and wake up the senses. My work wardrobe consists of mainly dresses, jeans, and blazers and I only wear pieces that I feel great in. Vernice: My mornings can be so varied depending on what project we are working on. A few things that are consistent are moisturising head […]

Editor’s Picks: Yeezy Season 2 And More Must-Haves!

Oh the joy of Mondays! While many dread Mondays, I truthfully don’t mind them so much. Of course, I love Fridays the most (who doesn’t?) but Monday’s present a fresh new start to go harder and be better. Best of all, I reserve Monday’s to scour through my fave online stores for the hottest products to feature in upcoming posts. Possibly the best part of my job…I enjoy nothing more than sitting with a hot cup of coffee and lusting over must-haves. *sigh*.  There are way too many amazing products out there and not enough features so I’ve compiled a few of my favourites for this week’s top buys. Enjoy! While it’s no secret that I’m not a fan of Kanye’s clothing. The same doesn’t go for his shoes. Yes, he makes the odd error here and there, but on the whole, he’s got a gift when it comes to footwear. These pre-fall knitted over the knee peep toes are a great investment for the season ahead. You can never be over or under dressed in a great maxi dress. They’re a lifesaver when it comes to that nerve racking hunt of finding what to wear to any upcoming event, whether it’s a wedding or a BBQ and you can’t go wrong adding this romantic Topshop floral maxi dress to your wardrobe.   With the sun set to make a permanent appearance (yay!), it’s absolutely essentials to have an arsenal of stylish sandals and there are tons of really great options out there. I love this classic ankle strapped style from Pikolinos who have a great selection of women’s sandals this season. Not only are they comfy and perfect for the summer season but if you’ve got any holidays planned, it’ll make the ideal travel companion too. These days nearly every celeb […]

5 Ways to Dress Stylishly When It’s Cold

It seems like once the temperature drops for the season, all of the clothes you absolutely love go into hibernation and it’s time to break out the frumpy and billowy coats and sweaters. On the contrary, those coats, sweaters, long skirts, boots, and various other winter clothing have massive stylish potential all on their own. You can discover this for yourself by trying out these five different ways to style up your winter wardrobe. 1. Layer, Layer, Layer Winter really means you get to wear more of your fashion-friendly clothing at the same time. If you have a sleeveless dress or shirt that you love, throw on a turtleneck or other long-sleeved top under it. Layer long-sleeved turtlenecks and sweaters with ponchos and coats. Put on some leggings under that skirt. There are all kinds of possibilities, and even combinations that might ordinarily seem like they clash could surprise you at how well they work. 2. Get Creative With Scarves Scarves are the ultimate winter accessory. Whether you have a favorite cold-fighting wool scarf you just won’t leave home without or there’s a beautiful infinity scarf that will go perfect with your new pea coat, explore your options and learn to wrap it in a new way. Infinity scarves can be worn as head covers as well as in various designs around the neck, so experiment with it and try something new for every outfit. 3. Grab a Belt If your coat or layered look still seems a bit drab, grab a belt and wrap it around the outside. It gives a slightly slimming appearance and adds just the right amount of metal to pull almost any outfit together. You can keep it tight or let it hang loose. 4. (Faux) Fur Is In It’s a good idea to steer […]

Valentine’s day can be a minefield and it can’t be ignored, however much you might want to. Your dream date may be an evening of cocktails and a candlelit dinner, whisking them away for a night or two in a foreign city or simply catching a movie and grabbing a burger afterwards, but dressing the part is every bit as important as remembering to book the tickets. Whether you’re impressing a new acquaintance or spoiling your long-term lover, cooking at home or braving a restaurant, it’s important to dress appropriately. Follow our tips on what to wear to four common Valentine’s date scenarios. Dinner and Drinks If you’re whisking your date out to a swanky bar, you can’t go wrong with a crisp white shirt – it’s the smartest colour to wear after dark. Team with a double-breasted jacket and try swapping out your tie for a subtle pocket square – after all it’s a date, not an interview. Nothing pairs with your sharpest suit like classic black shoes, and you can take your choice of Derbies or Oxfords. Loake Woodstock, our weapon of choice, is detailed with polished leather caps and brogue perforations to really show off your stand out style. Loake Woodstock Oxford Brogues   Cinema Style A trip to the flicks may be a little more low-key than a dinner date, but that’s still no reason for you to slack on style. How To Recreate Emmy Rossum’s Makeup At The 2016 Critics Choice Awards

The best thing about award season? Well, aside from lusting after the decadent red carpet gowns, has got to be all the hair and make-up inspo. While, we may not be able to afford couture, we certainly can recreate some of our fave beauty looks and this year we absolutely adored Emmy Rossum Parisian-inspired makeup at the 21st annual Critics’ Choice Awards. The timeless look was all down to the handiwork of celebrity makeup artist Jo Baker. “Emmy fancied super sleek and modern hair – I suggested that a soft looking radiant skin and lips would be perfect but the main focus being on her eyes.” said Baker. Here’s a complete breakdown of the products used and how to apply: EYES After prepping Rossum’s skin, Baker took Rimmel London ScandalEyes Eyeshadow Stick in Trespassing Taupe and dabbed a few rough dots along the base of her eyelid. Then working quickly smudged it over Emmy’s eyelid using her fingertip, creating a shadow base for Emmy’s eye makeup. Next, the celebrity makeup artist applied Rimmel London Exaggerate Smoke ’n Shine Eyeliner in Little Black Smokey along the actress’ lash line and smudged it with a small brush. She then slathered Rimmel London ScandalEyes Eyeshadow Stick in Bad Girl Bronze inside Rossum’s waterline, making sure some of the liner got stuck in her lower lashes, and then smudged it with the end of her fingertip, “This adds a little warmth around Emmy’s eye, which works great with her brown eyes,” said Baker. For thick long-lasting lashes, Baker applied several generous coats of Rimmel London ScandalEyes XX-treme Mascara in Black and lastly dotted Rimmel London ScandalEyes Eyeshadow Stick in Whitness White on the inner corners of Rossum’s eyes to brighten. SKIN For radiant glowing skin, Baker applied  Rimmel London Lasting Finish 25HR Foundation in Ivory and using a small blender eyeshadow brush, applied a couple of strokes of RimmelLondon Good To Glow Highlighter […]
