How To Recreate Emmy Rossum’s Makeup At The 2016 Critics Choice Awards

The best thing about award season? Well, aside from lusting after the decadent red carpet gowns, has got to be all the hair and make-up inspo. While, we may not be able to afford couture, we certainly can recreate some of our fave beauty looks and this year we absolutely adored Emmy Rossum Parisian-inspired makeup at the 21st annual Critics’ Choice Awards. The timeless look was all down to the handiwork of celebrity makeup artist Jo Baker. “Emmy fancied super sleek and modern hair – I suggested that a soft looking radiant skin and lips would be perfect but the main focus being on her eyes.” said Baker. Here’s a complete breakdown of the products used and how to apply: EYES After prepping Rossum’s skin, Baker took Rimmel London ScandalEyes Eyeshadow Stick in Trespassing Taupe and dabbed a few rough dots along the base of her eyelid. Then working quickly smudged it over Emmy’s eyelid using her fingertip, creating a shadow base for Emmy’s eye makeup. Next, the celebrity makeup artist applied Rimmel London Exaggerate Smoke ’n Shine Eyeliner in Little Black Smokey along the actress’ lash line and smudged it with a small brush. She then slathered Rimmel London ScandalEyes Eyeshadow Stick in Bad Girl Bronze inside Rossum’s waterline, making sure some of the liner got stuck in her lower lashes, and then smudged it with the end of her fingertip, “This adds a little warmth around Emmy’s eye, which works great with her brown eyes,” said Baker. For thick long-lasting lashes, Baker applied several generous coats of Rimmel London ScandalEyes XX-treme Mascara in Black and lastly dotted Rimmel London ScandalEyes Eyeshadow Stick in Whitness White on the inner corners of Rossum’s eyes to brighten. SKIN For radiant glowing skin, Baker applied  Rimmel London Lasting Finish 25HR Foundation in Ivory and using a small blender eyeshadow brush, applied a couple of strokes of RimmelLondon Good To Glow Highlighter […]

Looking Cool When The Weather Turns Cooler

Many women welcome the coming of fall because it’s a time for bundling up and adding layers. But it can be difficult to assemble cute date night outfits when it’s too chilly at night to bare any skin. Fortunately, there are some go-to looks that work great during the fall and winter without leaving you shivering. Let’s take a look at some of the options. Choose Classic You can never go wrong with the tried-and-true classic that is jeans, knee-length boots and a cute sweater. To dress it up this look for date night, choose yellow gold accessories and a top with an interesting cut. You could find a sweater that has a tighter fit or maybe one with a boatneck, like these listed on saintbernard.com, which can be worn slightly askew. Perfect Palette Nothing says fall like a palette of reds, browns, greens, and oranges. When shopping, be on the lookout for warmer clothes in these colors, especially tops and long skirts. Brown leather shoes and handbags fit perfectly into a fall color scheme. Jewelry can be rose gold or copper in the fall; shiny silver works best in winter. Casual Sophistication Jeans won’t always be appropriate for date night, but when they are, consider a dark wash during the autumn months. You could also choose jeans in fall colors to pair with a classic white shirt and tan blazer. Pull the look together with a brim fedora, such as this one from Forever21. A boho handbag will provide a place to stash your sweater when you get too warm in the club. City Chic High heels and shorter skirts can work in the fall, but you’ll likely need some tights to keep your legs warm. Black usually is best, but if you are bold, you can opt […]

It’s All About….The Biker Boot!

Backpacks….sneakers…flatforms…fashion is embracing comfort in all it’s splendour. And we’re not complaining. While we do love our killer heels (Gianvito Rossi, Jimmy Choo, Louboutin anyone?), long gone are the days when we could run around in our stilettos. Comfortable and stylish flats are our mantra for day wear and right now we’re obsessed with the biker boot. Seen everywhere in Milan this fashion week, biker boots add a tough yet glam edge to any outfit. Wear with skinny black jeans and a vintage parka, alternatively swap the parka for a biker jacket for full on rock ‘n’ roll chic. Here’s 15 of our top picks under £200.

How To Crack Knitwear This Season!

October is here and despite a brief intermission from the Indian summer department, winter is coming.  It’s time to haul out those layers and re-train our brains in the art of cold weather dressing. From women’s cashmere to Fair Isle, cover up like the best of them this season with our autumn knitwear guide. The Polo Neck *Cashmere Polo Neck Jumper, £150 While the polo neck never officially went out of fashion, it’s safe to say it’s experiencing a fashion revival right now. The surge of 1970s style has transformed the humble polo neck from a faithful wardrobe staple to a hot-off-the-press, sartorial must have. Get it right by layering yours underneath a shift dress, tucking it into an A-line skirt or going the whole hog with the seventies trend and pairing it with – take a deep breath now – flares. The Fair Isle Cardigan *Cashmere Crew Neck Jumper, £95 As Christmas approaches and the novelty jumpers come out for their annual parade, turn to Fair Isle for a classy approach to yuletide dressing. Fair Isle is one of those failsafe patterns that you can’t go wrong with. Plus it evokes scenes of Nordic reindeer and snowflakes which is okay in our book. The whole Scandinavian scene is oh-so in vogue of late. Wear yours open with a plain top, slim-fit jeans and ballet pumps for a cosy yet chic daytime look. The Textured One *Textured Jumper, £30 When you’re reduced to layer upon layer, trying to keep your style credentials intact can be a challenge.  That’s where texture comes into play. This season experiment with bold colours and sequins, faux fur and tweed to give the usual autumnal suspects a new and now edge. Mustard yellow and burgundy are big news colour wise and add a welcome […]

Editors Pick: Vaseline Intensive Care Spray Moisturiser

Along with Shea Butter and Coconut Oil, Vaseline is literally the one beauty product I can’t live without. My lips would be a dry, hot mess without it and let’s not even talk about my skin. Being, that I have incredibly dry skin, it’s a must that I apply Vaseline immediately after showering to ensure it’s fully absorbed. So, you can imagine how overjoyed I was to discover the new spray moisturiser from Vaseline Intensive Care. Aside from the fact that it caters to my laziness (applying moisturiser is one of my least favourite things to do), the lotion is absorbed in seconds which means, no more waiting to get dressed. Just spray and go. Best of all, it’s especially handy for getting to those hard to reach places – which for me, is my back. Applying moisturiser evenly all over my back is a struggle at the best of times, but with the spray, it’s a doddle. Available in Vaseline Essential Moisture, Vaseline Aloe Fresh and Vaseline Cocoa Radiant (my personal favourite) there’s definitely no going back – its Vaseline spray all the way!  £5.99 available at Boots.com.

Get Autumn Ready With These Essential Transitional Pieces

Ladies, don’t pack away all your summer clothing just yet. Yes, summer is sadly coming to an end *sigh* but with many of our favourite trends continuing on right into autumn/winter, lots of the pieces you’ve snapped up will transition nicely. Here’s 5 key pieces you must keep! White Jeans White denim (here) is having a major fashion moment and you’ll be glad to know it’s not going anywhere, anytime soon. Swap that favourite blouse you love to wear with your skinny jeans for an oversized statement jumper in preparation for the colder months ahead. Overalls Admittedly it took us a while to master the art of wearing overalls (here), so it’d have been a real shame if we were forced to give them up so soon. Thankfully this isn’t the case. For a casual weekend look, wear with a sweatshirt and a pair of playful sneakers for a lovely day out lunching with friends. Floral Dress Nothing screams spring/summer like a floral dress. In fact, it’s possibly the number one hero piece every year and it’s one of the key items for autumn & winter too. Update your floral print dress with tanned suede knee high boots, a cozy gilet and a glam floppy hat for a look that transitions seamlessly. Flares We are super happy about the resurrection of flares. Nothing has given us as much pleasure as donning our flared jeans and channelling our inner 70’s goddess. Give your flares a classic spin this season and combine with a white t-shirt and a tailored blazer for a modern AM to PM look. Fringe Bag Remember that cross-body bag you weren’t sure of snapping up, but you couldn’t help yourself ’cause it was just TOO gorgeous? Well, it was a smart buy! With both cross-body bags and fringe being […]

Five Reasons Why Wearing Black Is Great!

There’s a good reason why black clothing never goes out of style: It works. Other colours come in and out of vogue, but black is timeless. Everyone from celebrities to fashion-savvy kids sport head-to-toe black when they want to make a statement. Black is slimming, works all year long, hides dirt, and looks good on both men and women. If that’s not enough, here are five more reasons to wear black clothing. 1. You Can Go Formal or Casual Black is the colour of choice when you want to dress up. There’s something formal about the color, and it’s the best backdrop to show off your bling. Silver, gold, and gemstones all stand out against dark clothing. But, you don’t need to reserve black for special occasions. Casual clothing looks just as good in dark shades (Nasty Gal does this perfectly with their clothes!). Black, suede sneakers paired with black jeans is a great everyday look. It doesn’t matter if you’re young, old, or somewhere in between, black is just about the most versatile color you can wear. 2. Everyone Looks Good in Black Blonds, brunettes, and redheads can all pull- off black clothing. Because black isn’t actually a color, it doesn’t clash with any skin tone. As powerful as it is, black clothing works like a neutral, allowing your coloring to shine. So whether you’re a person who normally looks good in strong colors or more delicate pastels, black will bring out the best of your individual skin, eye, and hair colour. 3. You Convey Power Black is the original power colour. There’s something weighty and serious about it, and those who wear it look strong. Whether you’re sporting an actual power suit, a badass leather jacket, or a slinky dress, black makes you look and feel powerful. […]

How sleep affects our skin?

It’s amazing how much our skin can change to reflect our waking habits. Our skin is a great barometer of our internal health and as such it’s fascinating to see how our behaviour affects our skin’s tone and clarity. Some days we can wake up with skin that is fresh and clear. And other days we look in the mirror and gasp in horror at skin that is blemished and grey. Whilst there is an ever-increasing range of products for sale on the make up stands that can temporarily mask any discolouring, nothing is going to do more to affect your skin than how you live your life. And sleep in particular has a massive effect. The healing power of sleep In the daytime our skin performs a protective role to defend the body from nasty germs. But night-time is the time where our skin goes into recovery mode by sending new cells to the outermost skin layers to replace old or damaged cells. And in order for your skin to do this, you need to have prolonged, deep sleep. Failure to do so can swiftly lead to acne, eczema, psoriasis and those tell-tale dark circles around the eyes that are the result of stagnant blood that hasn’t been properly drained from the blood vessels. But getting routine and sustained periods of deep sleep can have miraculous powers too. Deep sleep means that the skin recovers more quickly from environmental stresses, gains a greater defensive power, and produces more natural collagen to keep you looking younger and healthier. Getting the perfect night’s sleep So if you want that glowing complexion, you’ll need to invest in a few sleep-maximising techniques. First of all, check your bed. Nobody’s going to get a good night’s sleep on decrepit bed. So why not invest in […]

How to choose the right socks for him

Socks are a sadly neglected element of men’s work wear, so neglected, in fact, that the man in your life may not think of them at all until he’s put on the rest of his suit and realized he has no idea what to wear on his feet. Fortunately, the rules for choosing the right socks can be as simple or as esoteric as he wants. Use these rules to ensure he finds the perfect pair of socks every time. Choose Tonal Socks The easiest way to match socks to your outfit is to choose a pair that’s only one tone, or shade, removed from your pants in colour. For example, dark grey socks would be a good match with a pair of black pants, and powder blue socks with a pair of navy slacks. Of course, some types of pants allow a little more flexibility than others. Jeans and any solid colour casual pants can generally be paired with almost any colour sock depending on the statement you want to make.  Add a Pattern A textured weave or subtle pattern is a great way to make your socks more interesting. For example, choose a pair of socks in the same colour you would usually wear with a particular pair of pants but made of a slightly thicker wool. The thicker material often comes with a unique weave or a raised pattern on the sock. It’s a good way to do something interesting while still keeping your socks relatively subtle. Choose a Contrasting Colour Just as tones, the colours that are closest to your trousers on the colour wheel, are a great choice for socks, so are the colours directly opposite your pants. For a quick refresher on contrasting colours, imagine all the primary and secondary colours arranged in a circle […]

Ready. Set. Go. Our Crash Course to Surviving End Of Year Sales

After shamelessly stuffing ourselves with turkey, mince pies, Christmas pudding (you name it) – there’s no better form of cardio than hitting the high streets for bargains. We know sale shopping can be a nightmare. Endless queues and hectic crowds can break the best of us, but we think we have it down to an art form – so much, we actually (gasp) enjoy it. To make sale shopping less “Game of Thrones” and more “Modern Family”, we’ve put together a list of important to-do’s to make sure you have a light-hearted, fun and enjoyable time rather than a nail-biting, stressful and heart-attack-inducing experience this sale season. 1. Make a list The end of year sales are undoubtedly the best time to buy all the items you’ve been lusting after but couldn’t afford. Avoid being tempted by just a good deal, opting instead for items you will wear time and time again. Make a list of must-haves, ideally pieces that transcend seasons such as that perfectly fitting t-shirt in a gorgeous jersey which can be layered under a neutral jumper or perfectly cut blazer. Holiday items are also good choices, such as pricey items like swimsuits. We also recommend budgeting for any impulse buys. You never know, the investment bag you’ve been eyeing may be discounted and calling your name. 2. Buy as much as you can online What did we ever do before online shopping? It’s hassle-free, you can shop while in the comfort of your home, snuggled underneath the duvet whilst drinking a nice, warm cup of tea. Most importantly it frees you up to spend more time on the high-street searching for other essential buys on your wish-list, or try on items with uncertain fits. Delivery is usually free around this time of year, so no need […]

Brave the cold with these warm and cozy Barbour winter jackets

The cold season is well and truly upon us. As the nights draw in and the mornings are filled with frost, we’re dreaming of cosy knits and toasty winter jackets. Before heading out to brave the bitter cold, harsh elements of a British winter, it is essential to wrap up warm, so in true British fashion, make sure you bag yourself a heritage style Barbour jacket. Stylish, practical and authentic, the Barbour brand has been going for over a century and their latest collection is really, really impressive. The Barbour ethos has always been to create high quality, beautifully crafted pieces, which get better with age. Their latest collection is a return to their roots with sophisticated uses of leather trims, protective fabrics and expert lining resulting in timeless outerwear with a contemporary tint. Here are a few of the Barbour jackets to look out for this winter: 1. Barbour Black Skipper Jacket Celebrating Barbour’s military heritage, the Skipper jacket has an evidently nautical theme running through the design. Dome buttons and a tailored belt give the jacket a luxurious aesthetic which would look so smart paired with black jeans and winter boots. Made from 100% wool, this would definitely keep you warm during the big freeze. One for the Christmas list. 2. Barbour Rustic Ordanance Jacket The vintage feel of this jacket is second to none; even though it was manufactured this season it looks like something produced in an era gone by. The shearling style fleece lining is really on-trend at the moment and this style would go with everything. Barbour took inspiration for this design from the aviator flight jackets which originated during World War 1 when airplanes didn’t have enclosed cockpits. The jackets were created as a protective layer to keep pilots warm and the style […]

5 Winter trends we’re totally and utterly obsessed with!

The cold winter months make you put on more or rather, thicker clothes than usual, but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style for comfort! Keeping things trendy while staying warm can seem like a challenge, but don’t worry—we’ve got your back. Whether you’re an avid thrift-store shopper or someone who prefers to buy shoes online, there’s a winter wardrobe trend out there that will show off your unique style and keep you warm. We’ve collected the top five trends for your wardrobe to guide you on dressing up for your daily jaunts around winter wonderland. Layer it up! Layering pieces of clothing you usually wear in warm weather with those designed to keep the chill out remains to be a top wardrobe trend. You can play with the layers, textures, and shapes of various clothing pieces. For instance, you can wear a short summer skirt with an oversize sweater so that the hem of the skirt peeks out just so under the sweater. You can also wear a pair of sheer tights under the skirt and ankle booties to keep your feet warm. Go with the faux. Faux fur is still a top wardrobe trend, and you’ll find it on coats, jackets, hats, lapels, vests, and scarves. A long faux fur coat is a classic piece you can wear over your little black dress. For something more casual, go for long faux fur vests over a form-sitting sweater. For those who love their jeans and rock-and-roll lifestyle, faux fur jackets are in order. Strut that quilt! Trends do keep coming back, as can be seen by the re-emergence of quilted jackets and coats on the world’s most stylish runways. Diamond-quilted coats and jackets are commonly seen worn by hunters and other outdoors-men. Quilted winter jackets, especially those designed […]

Laura Bailey picks her favourite pieces from the Wallis AW14 collection!

Alexander Wang for H&M isn’t the only collaboration we’re getting excited about this week, oh no. Iconic British model and writer Laura Bailey has teamed up with high street wonder Wallis to put together an edit of new-season pieces that’ll make shopping just that little bit easier for everyone. Wallis has a lot of gorgeous pieces available – the current autumn/winter 2014 collection is probably one of the strongest ones yet – so how did she manage to whittle down her favourites and decide what made the cut? “I work by instinct and desire and know what I love before I even try it on,” the told British Vogue. “I’malways drawn to a slightly Seventies silhouette, grown-up rock chic; masculine tomboy lines softened by a more glamorous aesthetic after dark; nothing too ‘done’.” Sounds like an excellent way to go about it. And that’s exactly the vibe we got when looking at her edit of new-season pieces. Although we can’t fault the collection, there are few stand-out pieces which have caught our eye a little more than others… the berry sequin pencil skirt in particular has us foaming at the mouth! Although it comes in an autumnal colour, there’s no fear of blending into the background or going unnoticed thanks to the bold hue and the glittering fabric. We would team ours (yes, we’ve already ordered it!) with some knee-high boots (preferably with a fiercely high stiletto heel) and tuck a chic top inside. Click here to take a look at all of the pieces Laura Bailey has personally selected. Do you have a favourite? You’re allowed to choose more than one…

Our top picks from the Alexander Wang for H&M collection!

The entire lookbook for the Alexander Wang for H&M collection has finally dropped – and it’s pretty exciting to say the least! We showed you a picture of Rihanna rocking a pair of leggings and a crop top from the collection which looked fabulous on the Bajan singer (most things do!) but made us worry slightly about whether we had the right abs and derrieres for the collection. Flicking through the lookbook had a few tense moments, but we can happily confirm that there are lots of very forgiving pieces in the collection too – phew! The collection doesn’t launch until November 6th, so you’ll have some time to pick out your faves and save up for them. You might want to take the day off work to queue outside your local H&M shop, as we don’t think the pieces are going to stick around for long! Here are our top picks from the collection: Mesh jumper, £79.99 This mesh jumper looks like it came from Alexander Wang’s mainline collection, so it’s an absolute bargain at just under £80. This will keep you warm during the frosty weather while maintaining that cool edge that Alexander Wang is all about. Success! Leather trousers, £179.99 The leather trousers in your current wardrobe may only be reserved for your skinny days as they’re so tight and unforgiving, but these ones from the Alexander Wang for H&M collection are anything but. Perfect to wear on relaxed days or with a crop top if you’re feeling brave and want to juxtapose them with something a little more fitted and revealing! Heeled boot, £149.99 If you’re after an investment piece, or even a hard-working one, then the heeled boots tick all the boxes. They’ll keep you warm, dry, add some height, and work perfectly with almost […]

Get Jennifer Lopez’s red Valentino look

We’re in a Valentino sort of mood this morning (blame it on the fact that World of Valentino is coming to Harvey Nichols and we are beyond excited!) so we couldn’t be happier to see one of our favourite songstresses rocking one of its bold and dreamy pieces. Jennifer Lopez wowed the crowd as she attended the Variety Power of Women Event in California, wearing a bold leopard print shirt dress from Valentino. And while we can’t always get away with copying J-Lo’s sartorial choices (mainly because we don’t have her legs, booty, or indeed, the weather) we can definitely see ourselves in this leopard print number time and time again. And it’s a good job that this dress can be worn again and again too, as it is a little on the pricey side and we’d want to get as much wear out of it as possible. Think of it as an investment piece that will serve you well throughout the years. Wear it with sleek black pumps a’ la Jennifer Lopez, or toughen it up with some biker boots if you’re in an edgier sort of mood. Leopard print shirt dress, £2,170, Valentino available at Far Fetch Black pumps, £560.21, Saint Laurent available at Far Fetch Micro Bubble red lipstick, £13.25, Daniel Sandler available as ASOS Black box clutch, £60, Carvela available at Debenhams

Five of our favourite jeans for the new season!

A new season is currently making its debut on the runways of Paris, but that’s not where the newness ends. In fact it’s only the beginning, as we have five brand spanking new-season jeans to show you that we have completely fallen in love with… and we know we won’t be alone either! The aforementioned jeans come courtesy of NYDJ. You may have heard of NYDJ and bought numerous items of clothes from them, but they’re now focusing most of their attention on jeans. We guess they must be listening to their customers, because they provide some of the best jeans for women – and we can never really have enough of them, can we? Take a look at our pick of the best NYDJ jeans below and let us know if you have a favourite. You’re allowed to say all five… 1. Alina legging in Redmond. You can’t go wrong with this classic and iconic cut and colour. It’s a classic for a reason! You shouldn’t worry about the dreaded muffin top or builder’s bum problems that come with wearing jeans though, as these babies come with Lift Tuck Technology® which is guaranteed to make you look slimmer (one whole dress size, according to the website). Hooray for slimming jeans! 2. Alina legging long in Dorchester. Tall jeans for women are actually quite hard to find, which is why vertically gifted women should snap these jeans up ASAP before some of the models return from their Fashion Month duties and beat them to it. 3. Alina legging in houndstooth laser print in black. Who said jean patterns have to be boring? Stand out from the crowd in these houndstooth laser print jeans that are guaranteed to steal the show! 4. Ami super skinny knit jean in Van Nuys. Super […]

She does it again – Taylor Swift looks incredible on streets of Beverly Hills!

Once again, through no fault of our own, we find ourselves lusting after another Taylor Swift outfit. How she manages to pull off sartorially perfect head to toe looks when she’s just going about her daily business is a little beyond us. The songstress wowed us with her street style look when she was out and about in Beverly Hills in California, wearing an effortless see-through lace dress (with a black vest underneath to cover her modesty, obviously), black ankle boots and matching black hat, and the bag that’s permanently on our lust list, the Dolce and Gabbana Sofia tote. We bow down to Taylor, 2014’s undisputed queen of street style! (We know we have a few months to go, but we’re pretty confident that our opinion isn’t going to change!)

Get Poppy Delevingne’s lip print Desigual look

Poppy Delevingne really does seem to have it all right now. She has one of the most famous model sisters in the world, a gorgeous husband, and a very covetable wedding photo album to flick through for the rest of her life. She also has impeccable style and, from what we gather, a never-ending wardrobe which we are more than a little jealous of. We’ve pretty much come to terms with the fact that we probably won’t ever come close to owning as many designer threads as she does, but we do our best to keep an eye out forher more affordable pieces, to ensure that we snap them up as soon as they become available. So, with that in mind, we’re pleased to tell you that Poppy’s black and pink lip print dress which she wore during New York Fashion Week is from none other than Desigual… and you can snap it up for less than £90. Looking like a Delevingne doesn’t always have to come at a bank-breaking cost! Finding one outfit to wear for an entire day is easier said than done – especially if you’re a busy yet fashion conscious lady. Is it possible to find an outfit to wear to the office and the cocktail bar without so much as a change of shoes? Of course it is – and we’re going to prove it to you! The key to nailing the AM to PM look without having to carry a spare pair of heels in your bag or fumbling around in a small toilet cubicle and asking the next woman to enter the bathroom to zip you up (so awkward!) is to invest in a day-to-night dress. Lidl branches out into womenswear, aims to rival Primark

We love Lidl for its ability to bring us food and other foreign delights for a fraction of regular supermarket prices, but the budget store is now spreading its wings and branching into on-trend womenswear. Pretty cool, right? Clothing lines in supermarkets are by no means a new thing thanks to the fabulous and affordable George at ASDA, Tesco’s F&F and Sainsbury’s Tu, but Lidl’s line is set to rival them in terms of price and convenience. And while it’s at it, it’s hoping to get some of Primark’s loyal customers too! The “high-end, on-trend” clothing line will launch on August 25th, and feature everything from £5.99 denim shirts, £6.99 jeans, £9.99 ankle boots, and £14.99 pleather jackets. “This is the first time ever that we’ve done such a high-end fashion promotion and we’re hugely excited about launching these lines on 25 August,” said Josie Stone, Lidl’s non-food buying manager. “Not only are these jackets bang on trend for this season but they’re also £15 a pop, which is unbeatable value for such high quality . So we’d advise customers to be quick getting down to stores on the 25th because they’re likely to be snapped up very quickly.” We’re definitely going to pop in and see what all the fuss is about. And if we get some cheap and cheerful designer-looking clothes out of it too – even better! [Glamour]

The (very unfamiliar yet very welcome) British sunshine has been out in full force. With these must have pieces you can make sure you don’t spend all your hard earned cash straight away, but still treat yourself and make sure you keep your style as cool as ever. 1. Gold-Plated Necklace by Kenneth Jay Lane – £75 This gorgeous necklace can be a statement accessory to accompany a casual daytime outfit, compliment a richly coloured evening outfit or alternatively complete your look with your favourite LBD and some gold earrings (see up and coming brand Kevia’s beautiful range for some inspiration – even better, their range is all environmentally sustainable, using 100% recycled materials but still producing incredible results). This piece is perfect for the natural and exotic themes springing up in summer collections (exhibited by no.10 of our list). 2. Leslie Snake Wedge Sandals by Tory Burch – £146 Previously priced £325 (thank God for season sales) these wedge sandals are decorated with a gorgeous snake print and an almond coloured wedge, perfect for staying glamorous on the beach while sipping a skinny Mojito and soaking up the summer sun. Snake prints always creates the perfect clutch, Tory works her magic there too in her Clara Wristlet Clutch Bag from one of her past collections.) 3. Pimp up your garden!

Gardens can be cool. And we’re not talking about a moderate temperature – we’re referring to giving your garden some style and pizazz. Brighter colours, upcycled materials, modifying household objects for a bolder purpose, and growing exotic and downright funky produce are all part and parcel of pimping up your garden into a slick showcase of sassiness. Additionally, if you have a big garden or a couple of shrub-based jobs, you can benefit a lot from garden tools like hedge trimmers. There are also lightweight options to avoid you getting into accidents while trimming hedges, this is according to BestOfMachinery tool review site.– It doesn’t need to be an expensive or time-consuming skill, and many of the simplest and best solutions can be found on gardening websites – click here to find out more – although putting some serious imagination and creativity into your backyard can’t hurt. For example, many homes have now eschewed the average pot for their plants, and have moved on to baths, kitchen bowls, wellington boots, cups, and even toilets for hosting plants? An old car, destined for the scrapyard, is a veritable treasure trove for the gardener – wheel trims, exhausts, and even hubcaps will hold a pot plant in superb style. With a bit of work and a mechanic friend or two you can even take it further; some petrol heads have converted the rear half of their car into a swingseat, and the front half, filleted of the engine, into a spectacular flower bed.Old bald tyres are cheap from scrapyards – use the money you’ve saved to buy some hardy paint and give them a new lease of life. The saying ‘One man’s trash is another man’s treasure’ has never been truer than in the gardening world. Old bricks which you’ll find in practically any […]

First look at Olivia Palermo’s debut shoe collection – pics and video!

We couldn’t quite contain ourselves when we first heard that style maven Olivia Palermo would be designing her very own shoe collection with Aquazzura, so imagine our excitement when we clapped eyes on a few of the shoes for the very first time… “Olivia and I have a very similar vision of shoes,” said the brand’s founder and designer Edgardo Osorio. “She is a real style icon and has amazing knowledge about shoes and accessories. We wanted to create a capsule collection of the styles every woman needs in her closet, interpreted with the Aquazzura aesthetic and seen through the eyes of Olivia.” And that’s exactly what we are getting from the collection! The idea behind it is that there are six shoe styles every woman should have in her life, including some gorgeous jewel sandals which were inspired by one of Olivia’s vintage necklaces, chic court shoes (standard), over the knee boots (sexy and warm) and fashion week essential gladiator sandals. You heard it from Olivia! The Olivia Palermo x Aquazzura collection will be available to buy in 12 selected stores worldwide and online at Net-a-Porter. Olivia Palermo is the latest star to rock Burberry’s personalised poncho

It doesn’t always take a red carpet and a whole lot of razzle dazzle for us to be impressed with a celeb’s sartorial choices. Case in point: this Olivia Palermo look. The newlywed socialite and style maven was spotted out and about in New York seemingly minding her own business, but obviously very aware of how good and expertly put together she looked. If only we could pull that off every time we popped out for a pint of milk and the latest issue of Vogue… There must be a bit of a chill in the Big Apple air right now, as Olivia chose to cover up with some gorgeous over the knee Stuart Weitzman boots (which we are totally lusting after, by the way!) a checked shirt, shorts, and of course, that instantly recognisable personalised Burberry poncho. Although maybe she should update it(or just get a new one) now she is a married lady… Do you love Ms Palermo’s effortless look as much as we do?

Rita Ora nails the Glastonbury Festival style trend

There was a lot going on at the weekend; the World Cup, Wimbledon, and of course, Glastonbury. We love spying what the A-listers wear at festivals when they are on the stage singing their hearts out, or off the stage having some down time and enjoying other artists, and the one lady that caught our eye the most was Miss Rita Ora. Rita showcased what hours of hard work in the gym (or perhaps rehearsing for those raunchy and high-action dance moves) looks like by wearing a barely there cropped top and jean shorts while off-duty. We’re a bit confused by the random bit of fur she has thrown over her shoulder, but her abs are doing a good job of distracting us so we’ll let that slide. She completed her look with the must-have footwear choices of Glastonbury – or any festival for that matter – and that was a fab pair of Hunter Original Block Heel Chelsea boots from the autumn/winter 2014 LFW show collection. No heels and flip flops for a festival in England – Hunter wellies are definitely your best friends when there’s rain and mud around. What do you think of Rita’s Glastonbury look? [Image]

Our top 5 Toms picks you need right now!

Fashion becomes even more fun when it’s not just about indulging – something the Toms brand can attest to. Founded in 2006 by American traveller Blake Mycoskie after befriending Argentinian children who had no shoes to wear, Toms introduced the One for One scheme; for every pair of Toms purchased, MyCoskie’s company produces a pair of new shoes for a child in need. After realizing the One for One model of giving could benefit those in need in other ways, Toms Eyewear was introduced. With every pair of sunglasses purchased, TOMS helps give sight to a person in need. And so far, Toms has given over 10 million pairs of shoes to children in need, in  over 60 countries, and restored the sight of over 150,000 people through purchases of Toms Eyewear since 2011. The latest addition to the One for One initiative is Toms Roasting Co; with every bag of coffee purchased, TOMS will provide one week of clean water to a person in need. Although the company is most famous for its classic slip-ons in a dizzying variety of colours and designs, Toms has branched out into other footwear styles. Everything from wedge boots to ballet flats are now part of the line-up, and all serve the same purpose as the original design. So, to celebrate the fantastic efforts of MyCoskie’s style-with-a-conscience approach to the industry, we’ve rounded up our top five Toms picks below. Go on, get clicking and do your bit! Our top five Toms picks 1. Multi burlap classics, £39.99 2. Moroccan cut-out desert wedges, £79.99 3. Woven vegan Correa sandals, £34.99 4. Zebra zag strappy wedge sandal, £59.99 5. David Beckham’s debut Belstaff collection is finally here!

Looks like Victoria isn’t the only Beckham with a nose for fashion and a talent for designing… Last year we told you that David Beckham would be collaborating with Belstaff on a cool menswear collection, and even showed you the very first look at the hot ad campaign (it had David Beckham in it, so of course it was going to be hot!) but now it’s time to take a look at some of the pieces in the range from one of his fave brands… “About five or six years ago I was looking for a cool biker jacket. I went into a vintage store and came across an old Belstaff jacket. I have worn it ever since,” Beck said. “Riding bikes obviously, it’s great for myself to be able to be part of a company that provides for me, the best bikewear.” Prices range £55.50 for a T-shirt, £235 for trousers and £413.70 for leather boots; everything is available on the Belstaff website right now, and will land in selected stores later this month. A great birthday present for a biker boyfriend or a bike enthusiast dad this Father’s Day! (It’s this Sunday, by the way!)

Lea Seydoux vs. Alexa Chung…Who wore Miu Miu better?

Faced with two exceptionally well-dressed women, the decision to pick a winner is never easy. This week, making us tear our hair out (dramatic, we know) are Lea Seydoux and Alexa Chung in the same spring 2014 Miu Miu dress. On the one hand we have a chic Frenchie, who loves nothing more than oozing that je ne sai quoi with every red carpet look she sports; on the other, a Brit famed worldwide for her threw-it-together-and-walked-outta-the-house approach to dressing. Tough one, no? Getting first dibs on the pretty printed number was Lea, who wore it to the  EE Rising Star award nominations photo call back in January. Styled with embellished Miu Miu pumps, a simple, centre-parted hairdo and minimal make-up, Lea’s look made for striking eye-opener at the event. Alexa gave the dress its second outing, at the Miu Miu Women’s Tales 7th Edition – Spark & Light screening in February, in New York City. The long-limbed beauty naturally put her stamp on the ultra-feminine look, by accessorising with a snake-print bag and pointy black boots. A causal, low-slung pony tail and her signature liner-flicked eyes completed the look. So, whose look comes out top? Both ladies look exceptionally polished in their own ways, but we’re going to give this one to…wait for it…Alexa! Surprised? Well, Lea’s look may be the prim way to do a floral-print dress, but Alexa brings a certain daytime quality to her look; we can imagine styling it this way for the office, but we’d swap the salmon coloured bag for a teeny black shoulder bag. Thoughts? Whose look are you diggin’? [Images: Lea; Alexa]

Add a smattering of studs, and you’ve got the perfect summer sandal to take you from now to the next boot-wearing season! Cashing in at the steep end this week is the Balenciaga Arena sandal. Shopping Tips for Jeans

Jeans are our sartorial best friends. They save the day when we just don’t know what to wear, and for that, we are eternally grateful. However, akin to the people wearing them, jeans come in all different shapes, colours and sizes, which means it is possible to pick the wrong ones and therefore give them a bad reputation. There’s nothing worse than ill-fitting jeans – they’re uncomfortable for the person wearing them, and aren’t pleasant on the eye either – so we’re here to give you some tips on shopping for the perfect jeans so everyone is happy all the time! Here goes: Know your body. Bodycon dresses look great on the curvy Kelly Brooks of the world, T-shirt dresses look cute on petite girls, and anything in the colour orange looks fantastic on anyone who’s just come back from holiday with a gorgeous glowing tan. Yep, different body types suit different items of clothing, and jeans are no different. Skinny jeans look great on girls with slender pins, and high waisted jeans are perfect for the more vertically gifted lady. Bootcut jeans are wonderful for adding some shape and definition to a silhouette. We guess what we’re trying to say is that different styles suit different body types, so it’s important to know what works for you. Try everything out and ask more than one person for an honest opinion! Know the occasion. If you want a casual and comfortable pair of jeans for that effortless “I just threw this off” look, then baggy boyfriend jeans or ripped jeans for women are the way to go! If you’re looking for something to wear in the smart/casual bracket, then there’s nothing quite as chic as a black pair of skinny jeans teamed with a sky high heel and a fitted […]

Our top picks from Kate Moss’s Topshop collection

Pictures of the entire Kate Moss x Topshop spring/summer 2014 collection surfaced earlier today, and we were pretty overwhelmed with the amount of covetable pieces on offer. Great news for our wardrobes, but not so great for our purses. This may still be a high street collection, but getting every single piece is still going to set us back and make a serious dent in our savings. The thing we love most about the collection is the versatility thanks to the individual Balearic Dressing, Pyjama Dressing, Cocktail Hour and Tailoring Noir categories. If you want a staple piece, a casual piece or a wow-worthy piece to blow everyone away, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for. It was a bit of a tough job, but we’ve selected five of our ultimate favourite pieces from the new collection. Here goes: 1. This also comes in a bold shade of green, but we think the yellow is far easier to acccessorise around. This is the perfect dress for this time of year – if you need something for the races or for your friend’s wedding, look no further. 2. The ultimate wow piece that Kate wore on the Harper’s Bazaar US cover to whet our appetites for the new collection. It clearly worked as we are all over this dress! 3. This playsuit has sexy and cute all wrapped up in a neat little package. Tease the boys with the see-through detailing, but stay ultra cute and feminine with the bow on the side. It’s the best of both worlds and we can’t wait to wear it this summer! 4. The perfect tunic to pull off that boho chic look. Festival fashion at its finest – pair with a pair of cut-off denim shorts and fringed cowboy boots for instant summer […]

How to do normcore without completely giving it away

It’s the nameless, label-less, anti-trend sweeping the fashion world, and its popularity, surprisingly, shows no sign of waning. Normcore, or dressing like your dad, is a dress code some too-hip-for-street-style individuals have adopted, in order to remove themselves from the overstretched fashion clichés that bloggers and street style stars have made popular. More relevant examples of normcore advocates include the Olsen Twins (well, sometimes), 90s star Jerry Seinfeld and, well, everything American Apparel, really. No longer does a uniform of skinny jeans, luxe boots and oversized coat suffice; nor does the ‘all black errythangg’ (cheers, Kanye), Emmanuelle Alt-esque aesthetic win you any brownie points. No. Normcore embraces the warmth of a Patagonia fleece as does Anna Dello Russo the charm of a furry Tom Ford number; it advocates the wearing of flannel shirts, but not how Hedi Slimane intended. So, to break down the trend and make it easier to digest, we’ve picked out five seemingly unflattering (but secretly stylish) pieces to add to your dad dressing equation, when going for normcore. From the slouchiest black pants to an unassuming Acne cap; we’ve got the untrendy trend covered. Buck the trend (literally), and shop the look below. Denim jacket: Moto sleeveless denim jacket, £38, available at Topshop. Cap: Acne Studios Clint Patch baseball cap, £90, available at Net-a-Porter. Sneakers: Brooks Addiction walking shoe, £76.64, available at Nordstrom. Pants: Casual trouser, £285, available at Y-3. Top: Getting Back To Square One Malibu sweatshirt, £221.29, available at Farfetch.
