Lindsay Lohan sparkles in Theia for the amfAR gala

Here’s something we haven’t said in a while: Lindsay Lohan looks pretty good, doesn’t she? The actress has her fair share of critics when it comes to her sartorial choices, but we can’t really fault her appearance at the amfAR gala on Wednesday night which took place to help kick off New York Fashion Week in style. Emphasis on the style! Li-Lo looked incredible in her sparkly Theia dress from the spring/summer 2011 collection. Given the sparkly nature of the dress, we still reckon she is taking style inspiration from Elizabeth Taylor after playing the late icon in that Lifetime Liz & Dick movie. Instead of directly copying her style however, Linds seems to be incorporating a hint of Liz into her own look, making it contemporary, youthful and modern. Brownie points aplenty! We also love how she’s gone back to her famous ginger hair colour too – Lindsay was pretty much at her best during the Mean Girls days, and judging from this appearance, it looks like she just might be back on track. Keep it up, girl!

Marc Jacobs forced to postpone his NYFW show!

Despite the great start to New York Fashion Week’s autumn/winter 2013 season, some things don’t appear to be going according to plan. Namely Marc Jacobs’ show. Due to the heavy snow and intense winds of Blizzard Nemo, there have been customs and delivery delays which have forced Marc Jacobs to postpone his show. Instead of showing his collection on Monday as planned, the show will now go ahead on Thursday at 8pm. “We’re missing bags, shoes and two fabrics,” Marc Jacobs International president Robert Duffy told WWD. “Marc and I are extremely sorry for this inconvenience. We just want to have the best show possible and show all the product that our design team has been working on so hard for the last six months. “We completely understand if people have to get on a plane to go to London. We’re not expecting people to change those plans or other plans just for us. We are live streaming the show. Still, we recognise the significant inconvenience and are very sorry about the situation.” The time change means that some fashion folk are going to have to choose between attending his show or jetting into our fine Capital for the first day of London Fashion Week – ouch! Those wanting to get their Marc Jacobs fix are advised to click here and check out the designer in all his shirtless glory… surely a sight beautiful enough to cheer anyone up! [Telegraph]

Beyonce steals the Halftime Show at the Superbowl 2013

It was the most highly anticipated televised event since the Royal Wedding – or at least it was for us – but last night we finally got to watch the one and only Beyonce entertain the world during the Superbowl’s Half Time Show. And boy was it worth the wait! Not only did Queen Bey blow us away with her high energy dance routines and super-powerful vocal range, but she also surprised us by bringing on her former Destiny’s Child bandmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams to confirm their reunion. Basically, it was a lot to cope with in 15 minutes, which is the excuse we’re giving ourselves as we try to justify watching the performance more than 20 times already. And then there was the fashion! Last year Madonna strutted her stuff on the stage in some custom Givenchy, but Miss Knowles, or should we say Mrs Carter, also went for something showstopping don’t you worry about that. She paraded around the stage in two sexy leather outfits by New York designer Rubin Singer, as did Kelly and Michelle when they later joined her on stage. You’ve probably seen the video a handful of times by now, but just in case you want to watch it again, you can check it out below. All together now: “uh uh oh, all the single ladies… now put your hands up!” http://youtu.be/AwYwUs4EQ-0

Pixie Lott embraces the bright trend at The Shard launch

Pixie Lott seems to have nailed all the latest fashion trends in one go, as she attended a party to celebrate the official opening of The Shard in London last night. As the tallest building in the European Union, The Shard boasts some seriously stunning views, but Pixie Lott was a sight to behold too. Bright shades have never been hotter (look to the Atelier Versace Couture show or the Screen Actors Guild Awards for evidence) and Pixie has proven just how effective they can be when worn and accessorised correctly. Lace is also an increasingly popular trend, and we love how Pixie incorporated it into her outfit with sheer effortlessness. The white accessories – 90s-inspired platform shoes included – provided the perfect finishing touch to her vintage retro-meets-contemporary look. Ten out of ten!

The Screen Actors Guild Awards 2013: The best dressed!

Another Sunday night was spent sitting in front of the television with a glass of fizz passing sartorial judgement on the famous faces of Tinsel Town, as the Screen Actors Guild Awards took place in LA. It was another successful night as far as red carpet triumphs were concerned, with few of our favourite looks coming courtesy of Amanda Seyfried in striking blue Zac Posen, Lea Michele in hot pink Valentino, Marion Cotillard in Dior Couture, and even little Mad Men star Kiernan Shipka in attention-grabbing Oscar de la Renta. We all remember how Rosie Huntington Whiteley channelled Jessica Rabbit at the Transformers 3 premiere, but we think Jessica Chastain was after her crown as she oozed glamour and sexiness in her figure-hugging Alexander McQueen dress. Breathtaking! Scroll down to check out the full list of our favourites… and make sure you cast your vote in the poll below, we want to know what you think! Amanda Seyfried in Zac Posen Jessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen Lea Michele in Valentino Marion Cotillard in Dior Kiernan Shipka in Oscar de la Renta  Naomi Watts in Marchesa  Nina Dobrev in Elie Saab  January Jones in Prabal Gurung Jennifer Garner in Oscar de la Renta Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior Couture Sofia Vergara in Donna Karan  Anne Hathaway in Giambattista Valli Sarah Hyland in Dolce and Gabbana Nicole Kidman in Vivienne Westwood  Cast your votes… [poll id=”391″]

Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz for InStyle US March

Three of Hollywood’s most beautiful ladies are gracing InStyle US’s all-important March issue, and no, that’s not just because the mag couldn’t decide which of the stunning girls to put on the cover. Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz are all starring together in the highly anticipated Oz, The Great And Powerful film, playing the roles of witches Glinda, Evanora and Theodora. Phew – quite a mouthful when you say their names quickly! We can’t wait to see what the editorial has in store for us – we hope the mag took full advantage of the mystical and fantastical nature of the film and dressed the girls in some appropriately magical attire. If only the Elie Saab Couture show took place earlier, there are plenty of items in that collection we think would look perfect on the ladies. Do you like InStyle’s March cover? Are you looking forward to the release of Oz, The Great And Powerful? [Coco Perez]

High Street: 1 Rita Ora: 0

This week’s been a bit of a stirrer on Planet Fashion, as we brace ourselves for Fashion Month and all the news that unfolds with it. Firstly, the urbanisation of what is supposed to be a copious dose of unadulterated luxury (thanks, Rita!) has led to many a sleepless night, and secondly, the arrival of the High Street on the High fashion runway. They say every writer should be as cynical as is humanly possible in order to really raise his or her voice against the unjust practices of the rapidly rotating (fashion) planet, but I don’t want to be the one who applies the dampener, so to speak. Well, not entirely. Let’s begin with Rita Ora’s recent outing in Le Paree for Couture Fashion Week. We know Jay-Z’s protégée brings her A game in the form of an eclectic dress sense, and equally vivid hair to match, but it was the shocking ‘devaluation’ of an uber-luxe item, namely the Hermès Birkin bag that left me in a destructive-to-luxury daze. Stepping out in moon boot-equivalent sneakers, multi-patch Adidas trousers and neon knit is bad enough, but throwing one of the most revered handbags into the mix doesn’t sit well with me. Although Rita’s affinity for carrying a Birkin with almost every ensemble she appears in is pretty evident, this isn’t the catwalk-ready definition of sport-luxe I was thinking of. But on an ever so slightly more sartorially positive note, Rita brought the Boy (see what I did there) to the front row at the Chanel Couture show in Paris, teaming Wang boots with a floaty dress, topped off with a red leather jacket. Not a huge fan of this (again) try-hard ensemble (the red lips were the only necessity), but then again, isn’t that the only idea that underscores most of […]

Did Hailee Steinfeld get it right or wrong on the Chanel FROW?

If there’s one place to pull out the sartorial big gun s and dress to impress it’s the Chanel Couture Show. The FROW was packed with the hottest celebs from Rita Ora to Chanel fave Diane Kruger, but it was not-so-little-anymore Hailee Steinfeld who grabbed our attention the most. We can’t decide if that’s a good or bad thing though… not just yet, anyway. We think Hailee usually nails it on the red carpet with her age-appropriate but fashion-forward looks, but we were a tad perplexed by what she wore on the Chanel front row. We reckon she tried to tackle too many trends in one go which is a risk that sometimes pays off, but maybe not on this occasion… Hailee was sophisticated and mature chic from the waist down, and quirky classic Chanel girl with a twist from the waist up. We love the neon yellow clutch, but between the bright accessory, the hat, the dramatic make-up and the simple shoes, something went a bit wrong. We still admire her for going all-out though, and we’ll continue to anticipate her red carpet outfits in the future. What do you think of Hailee’s Chanel look? [poll id=”389″]

Midweek Moodboard: Atelier Versace inspired neon

Another thing we love about Couture Fashion Week is the fact that we get to check out the fresh new trends that will be dominating the fashion glossy pages and shelves in all our fave clothes stores. Donatella Versace re-introduced us to the big, bold world of neon at the Atelier Versace show which took place in Paris a few days ago, which has naturally got us digging out the old pieces in our wardrobes and hunting for fresh new pieces at the same time. Whether you choose to embrace the trend by way of a subtle (but no less wow-some) accessory or go full-on with a loud dress or jumper, we think you’ll find something in our little selection above to convince you to give it a good go. Watch Lindsey Wixson in Karl Lagerfeld’s new Chanel Public Garden film

We’ll be showing you some of the key looks from the new Chanel Couture collection that debuted in Paris yesterday a little bit later on, but we thought we’d treat you to another fine piece of Chanel art first. Karl Lagerfeld shot a great black and white short film entitled ‘Public Garden’ at the Rodin Museum in Paris, which features model Lindsey Wixson and his very own godson Hudson Kroenig. The short film is romantic, playful, chic, and pretty much sums up the French fashion House in a nutshell. The Charlie Alex March Crisp White soundtrack is particularly moving too. Lindsey and a blonde female friend can be seen admiring their new Chanel purchases and touching up their make-up (Chanel, obvs) while French model Aymeline Valade struts purposefully along the picturesque gardens, turning heads with her striking stripy Chanel trousers. As usual, little Hudson Kroenig steals the show (he usually makes an appearance at the end of Chanel presentations) confirming that he’s going to be quite the heartbreaker when he’s older. Oh and before you ask, Choupette Lagerfeld also makes an ‘appearance’ too, but maybe not as you’d expect. Intrigued? Watch the video below to find out what we mean. Enjoy!

5 of our all-time favourite Elie Saab dresses

A name synonymous with red carpet dressing so ethereal, it leaves us speechless every Awards Season; Elie Saab’s designs are a sartorial dream come true. The Lebanese couturier has dressed everyone from Nicole Kidman to Halle Berry and Jennifer Lopez in his elegantly refined, red-carpet ready gowns, so we don’t expect his bucket list to be very long! But even with all his striking designs on the super-bods of every super-being to reside in the Hollywood hills, Elie Saab only became a household name just over a decade ago, when Halle Berry wore one of his creations to pick up the ‘Best Actress’ award at the 2002 Oscars for her role in Monster’s Ball. And since, the designer has clearly cast an unbreakable spell over A-list town – we can’t get through a red-carpet soirée without a Saab creation making a scene-stealing appearance! Lea Michele in the designer’s crystal-encrusted halter neck design at last week’s Golden Globes was a perfect example of the atelier master’s jaw-drop effect. In honour of one of most reputed names rolling off the tongues of the rich and famous in celeb and fashionville, here are five of our all time favourite Elie Saab dresses for you to drool over. Beyonce, 2007 Golden Globes In Bey’s, or should we say Destiny’s Childs terms, this gown was definitely Bootylicious! Form fitting, it showed off the singer’s assets to perfection, and a plunging neckline and sequin embellishment oozed glamour. Halle Berry, 2002 Oscars This was the look that launched a thousand gowns, and put Elie Saab on the red carpet map. Halle Berry picked up the biggest gong of the night, and looked equally outstanding! A sheer, embroidered body contrasted against a merlot-hued skirt spelt perfection; a defining and unforgettable look, even 11 years on! Rihanna, 2012 American Music […]

Zooey Deschanel vs. Jennifer Lawrence: Who rocked red better at the Golden Globes 2013? (We can’t decide!)

It was a war of the fashion world’s greats over the weekend, as the crème de la crème of Hollywood took to the red carpet for the 2013 Golden Globes. And yes, there were a number of BDOTW-worthy looks floating about, but two ladies in red sent our style radar into overdrive: Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta, and Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior. Both stylish starlets rocked swoonsome, strapless red gowns with voluminous skirts; Zoeey in Pre-Fall 2013 ODLR and Jennifer in Christian Dior Fall 2012 Couture, and both made our Golden Globes Best Dressed list, but we’re still undecided on who looked better. An evidently embarrassing moment, as both stars would’ve laid eyes on each other and met with the other’s horrified, same-dress-different-girl look! But both looks equally floored us, and we love that competition with the red carpet didn’t phase these beauties. Zooey accessorised her look with a waist-accentuating pose and a large pearl necklace, whilst winner on the night of ‘Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical’ award, Jennifer, who is also the new face of Dior, added a metallic belt and Salvatore Ferragamo clutch to her delicious look. We’re going with both looks as winners, but we’ll leave you to decide who rocked red better. Comments below, please!

The Golden Globes 2013: The best dressed!

Snow may very well have been forecast here in the UK, but it was a totally different story across the pond, as the stars of Tinsel Town were well and truly scorching for the 2013 Golden Globe Awards. Next to the Oscars, this really is our favourite of the awards ceremonies, as it gives the stars from some of the best TV shows and films of the moment the chance to step out onto the red carpet and celebrate their greatness. Red was one of the key colours of the evening, with the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Zooey Deschanel and Claire Danes stepping out in varying hues of the shade. Despite colour being very prominent, we also had some cracking black gowns courtesy of Kate Hudson, Eva Longoria, Sofia Vergara, Adele, Nicole Kidman and Sarah Hyland among others. Paler dresses came from the likes of Lea Michele, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Hayden Panettiere, Megan Fox and Jessica Chastain. All in all, the Golden Globes 2013 were a roaring success on the red carpet hence our larger-than-average best dressed list this morning. Who was your favourite? Jessica Alba in Oscar de la Renta Anne Hathaway in Chanel Couture   Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen  Jessica Chastain in Calvin Klein Collection  Taylor Swift in Donna Karan Atelier Marion Cotillard in Christian Dior Couture Katharine McPhee in Theyskens Theory Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior Lea Michele in Elie Saab Sarah Hyland in Max Azria  Nicole Richie in Naeem Khan Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta Emily Blunt in Michael Kors Sofia Vergara in Michael Cinco Megan Fox in Dolce and Gabbana Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen Amanda Seyfried in Givenchy Eva Longoria in Emilio Pucci Claire Danes in Versace  Adele in Burberry Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad Hayden Panettiere in Roberto Cavalli Lucy […]

10 evening gowns that’d be perfect for the Golden Globes or the Oscars!

The turn of the year marks the beginning of a rather exciting period in the celebville calendar: awards season. With the Golden Globes merely days away, and the Oscars (gasp!) taking place next month, our imagination is running wild thinking about the potential sartorial choices the leading ladies of Hollywood will make. From, Gwyneth Paltrow’s make-yer-heart-beat-faster, stunning Tom Ford cape gown to Angelina Jolie’s ‘leg party’ in that strapless Atelier Versace number. No doubt, awards season this year will bring just as much delight to our style feasting eyes, and with the Golden Globes nominations already released, and Oscar nominations being revealed on Thursday, take a look at the top 10 evening gowns we think would be perfect for this year’s biggest red carpet events. 1. Style Awards: Top 10 best dressed celebs of 2012

It’s safe to say, 2012 has been a positively chaotic year on many accounts: stealthy fashion musical chairs; the news of a 2013 royal tot, surprise (read: secret) weddings and a fair amount of heartbreak ensued. But one thing far more exciting than all of these juicy prospects combined is the FASHION we witnessed. From Miranda Kerr’s uber-stylish taxi-to-hotel hop, all endless, perfectly bronzed legs and the hottest off-duty ensembles imaginable, to Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s ravishing red carpet looks, not forgetting some equally hot lingerie! Diane Kruger left us in a state of fash-induced hyperventilation, thanks to that Christian Dior couture gown whilst Emma Stone really established herself as the unturned stone (excuse the sorrowful pun) of fashion: she.looked.HOT. From Tom Ford to Trapstar, Rihanna has us on trend-led tenterhooks with every outfit she stepped out in, and Alexa, well, she’s just too stylish to even discuss, right? It was the probably the hardest thing we had to do – alongside trying to remember to use Saint Laurent instead of Yves Saint Laurent, and digesting news of R-Patz and  K-Stew’s brief split whilst admiring her red carpet looks – but choosing our 10 best dressed celebs of 2012 was a limiting task. After much thought, picking and choosing, editing and loudly conversing (read: arguing) over frills, hems and necklines, we’ve whittled it down to our Top 10. Here’s to 2012’s best dressed ladies…. Taylor Swift Rosie Huntington-Whiteley Rihanna Miranda Kerr Kristen Stewart Emma Stone Diane Kruger Blake Lively Anne Hathaway Alexa Chung Who was your best dressed of 2012?

What Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfried wore to the Les Miserables London premiere

The Les Miserables premiere took place in London’s Leicester Square last night, which means we don’t have long to wait for the film to hit our local cinema. Squeal! Anne Hathaway ensured all eyes were on her by wearing a gorgeous white satin dress from the Givenchy Couture spring 2012 collection. It isn’t the easiest of dresses to wear, but we reckon Anne pulled it off! We love the womanly shape the dress gave her, as despite having to lose weight for her role in the film, Anne’s curves were still evident in the figure-hugging creation. It’s also a great piece to wear with a short haircut, as the detailing would be lost behind longer locks so we think Anne and her stylist made a fine choice! Amanda Seyfried also showcased her fashion credentials by stepping out in a black and white piece from Balenciaga’s latest collection. We know Amanda isn’t as tall as the catwalk models which is why it looks slightly different on her, but we think she brought a chic, elegant air to it and rocked it with confidence. Her hair and make-up were perfect, too. Well done, ladies!

Olivia Palermo goes bold in Alessandra Rich at Valentino exhibition

Yes Ms Palermo – this is definitely the stuff sartorial dreams are made of! The gorgeous Olivia Palermo was once again on British soil as she attended the Valentino: Master of Couture exhibition in London, looking breathtaking in a lace dress from the Alessandra Rich spring/summer 20123 collection. Can we adopt her as one of our own, please? How many more trips to the UK until we can call her an honorary Brit? Olivia could have worn a Valentino creation – we doubt there was a shortage of pieces for her to choose from – but we admire her bold choice to go for something different. Is this not why she continues to be one of our ultimate style heroes year after year? The dress is a bit busy so we would have preferred some simpler shoes, as well as the jacket to come off for the photos, but we can’t really complain about this look at all as Olivia was one of the best-dress ladies in attendance. And surprise, surprise, the hair and make-up was once again flawless!

Beyonce documentary heading to HBO this February

We are giddy with excitement at the news that Beyonce’s documentary is definitely happening, and will be shown on HBO in less than three months’ time! If we could shake our booties in a Beyonce-like fashion, we would probably be doing that around the office right now as opposed to the usual celebratory star jumps. The bootylicious babe will apparently direct the documentary herself (it’s unclear whether it’s a work in progress or whether the filming and editing is done and dusted) and she’s revealed in a press release that it will be very personal. We are also promised “raw, unprecedented access to the private entertainment icon and high-voltage performances,” which is enough to get anyone excited! The singer has recently released a bunch of photos from her personal album (like the one above) so we’re hoping the documentary follows suit too. Queen Bey will also be performing at the 2013 Super Bowl on February 3rd (remember Madonna’s stint this year?) to truly whet our appetites ahead of the release of the documentary on February 16th. We can never really have too much Beyonce, after all. You looking forward to it as much as we are? Don’t forget, February 16th on HBO – write it in your diaries, although we’ll probably remind you several times before then! [NY Daily News]

Jessica Chastain is dreamy in Dior for Marie Claire US December

Marie Claire is seriously on fire this month, rounding off another great year of magazine covers with a killer December issue featuring Jessica Chastain. Nicole Scherzinger stunned on the UK cover that we showed you last week, and now Jessica Chastain is doing her part for the Stateside version, striking a fierce pose in a hot pink Christian Dior Haute Couture dress. Jessica strikes us as a cool and very grounded actress, which is definitely confirmed in the accompanying interview where she tells the mag how her successful career hasn’t changed her lifestyle… “I always supported myself through acting and would make money last a long time,” she said. “I understand the value of money, and I’m not an impulsive buyer. I bought a new laptop three years ago, and before I bought it, I spent a month thinking about buying it. “So my lifestyle hasn’t changed, except my anxiety about paying the rent is gone.” And don’t forget being able to wear Couture, Jess! You can read the rest of Jessica’s interview – where she also opens up about the subject of men – and see more stunning pics in the December issue of Marie Claire US. [Images]

Kristen Stewart and Ashley Greene hit up the Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 world premiere

This is it guys, the final world premiere of the Twilight Saga has finally come! A bittersweet feeling, we must admit. And because the Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 Los Angeles premiere is such a big deal, you know all the sartorial big guns would come out for the occasion… and that’s exactly what happened. Twilight’s leading lady Kristen Stewart didn’t disappoint, as she hit up the red carpet in a stunning cream Zuhair Murad corset gown, which she teamed with minimal accessories,  expertly styled side-parted tumbling brunette locks, and a winning hot pink smile to boot. Ashley Greene also decided to shun the dark, gothic theme of the film and go for a light number, as she wowed the crowd in a sublime one-shouldered cream ruffle Donna Karan dress. The rest of Ashley’s look was flawless, as her hair and make-up complemented the dress perfectly, while her drop earrings added some subtle but wowsome sparkle. No accessories-overload here. The other Twilight girls didn’t let us down either, as Nikki Reed looked sublime in a strapless grey Versace dress, while Dakota Fanning brought some vivid colour to the proceedings in an Elie Saab Couture dress. And speaking of colour, do you love her newly-dyed chocolate brown locks as much as we do? Wow – what a great place to unveil your new ‘do. Who gets your best-dressed vote? We won’t try to hide it, our vote belongs to Ashley Greene, but we’re interested to see where you guys stand too! [poll id= “378”]

Anne Hathaway’s a natural beauty for Vogue US December

It’s finally here! We’ve been looking forward to this cover ever since photographer-to-the-stars Annie Leibovitz let the cat out of the bag and revealed that she had shot Anne Hathaway for the American fashion Bible’s December cover. And although the photographer is famous for creating more unconventional – and sometimes controversial – images, it’s nice to see that she stripped everything back and let Anne Hathaway’s natural beauty shine through on the cover. As well as the gorgeous, striking green dress on the cover,  Anne is modelling some beautiful pieces in the editorial, including a Valentino Haute Couture velvet dress, and a Ralph Lauren embroidered vest and ruffle blouse. In the accompanying interview, Anne naturally chats about her role in Tom Hooper’s Les Misérables, and reveals that she knew the part was hers when she left the audition… “I knew that someone was going to have to go in there and do something pretty special to unseat me,” she said. “Sometimes you leave a room and you feel like maybe you’ve left the door open a crack. This time, I knew that I had slammed it shut behind me.” Now we haven’t seen the film yet (it’s out on January 11th – get it in your diaries) but judging from the trailer which we helpfully put in at the bottom, we can totally see where she’s coming from. We got goosebumps! The role belongs to Anne and only Anne, and we bet there’s a “best actress” award or two out there with her name on.

Marion Cotillard dramatic in Dior for Harper’s Bazaar UK December

Another December fashion glossy cover coming your way this morning, and this time it’s courtesy of the ever-gorgeous Marion Cotillard. The Oscar-winning French actress – whose new Lady Dior ad campaign was released earlier this week by the way – is looking as chic and sophisticated as ever on the front cover of Harper’s Bazaar UK in a sexy Dior Haute Couture number. No surprises there! The sleek hair and dark eyes look so seductive and striking against the simple background, proving that Marion can pull off both understated and dramatic looks with ease. Not even a hint of jealousy there, we promise! Marion isn’t the only reason to get the December copy though, as it also happens to be the Women of the Year issue which features the likes of Stella McCartney, Jessica Ennis, Vivienne Westwood and even our very own Queen! Gonna be a good’un!

Almost a week after they officially tied the knot, some pictures of Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake’s nuptials have finally been released. We don’t think it’s a trick of the light – she really did do a Reese Witherspoon and ditch the conventional white and wear pink! Literal blushing bride! It was initially thought that Lebanese designer Elie Saab would make her wedding dress, but Jessica’s pink creation was made by none other than Giambattista Valli. What do you guys think of the Couture dress? More details of Justin and Jessica’s wedding are revealed inside the latest issue of People which is on newsstands right now! Stella McCartney, Giles Deacon, Matthew Williamson and more design dog outfits for charity

We admittedly get very excited when our favourite designers give back, and this is no exception! A host of some of the biggest and best designers in the world have lent their talents to the Battersea Dogs and Cats home, and will each create a couture outfit fit for a dog to raise money for the charity. Stella McCartney, Giles Deacon, Matthew Williamson, Vivienne Westwood, Julien Macdonald, Henry Holland, Mulberry and Philip Treacy are just a few of the big name designers who will be creating an item for man’s best friend. “I am extremely proud to support the dogwalk,” said Henry Holland. “I have always been a dog lover and this initiative is such a brilliant way to use fashion as a way of highlighting such a great cause.” The finished pieces will then be showcased during the Collars and Coats gala on November 8th, and then auctioned off to raise money for the cause. We can’t wait to see what they come up with! Whose design are you looking forward to seeing the most? [Vogue][Image]

Jennifer Lawrence is the new face of Miss Dior

It’s officially been confirmed that Hunger Games actress and current British Vogue cover girl Jennifer Lawrence is the brand new face of Miss Dior. The 22-year-old beauty will therefore follow in the footsteps of Mila Kunis and Marion Cotillard in posing for the iconic brand. “Like the whole world I first discovered Jennifer Lawrence as a young action hero,” said new Dior creative director Raf Simons. “I was of course struck by her unbelievable on screen presence in these ‘larger than life’ movies, but I was equally impressed by her powerful portrayal of more emotional and complex characters. Her youth and her classic beauty but also the feminine strength and complexity that she can portray at such a young age are for me very unique and very appealing.” We had a small inkling that Jennifer would have something exciting lined up with the fashion House, as she sat pretty on the front row for the Couture show earlier this year.  Her ads are slated to break in March next year! Excited? [WWD]

Get Ginnifer Goodwin’s sparkly high street look

As much as we love celeb style stalking, we do admittedly get a bit depressed when we find out that the A-listers are wearing the finest Couture and most exclusive, unobtainable bespoke outfits. This is why we do exaggerated star jumps when we discover our fave stars are wearing high street – and Ginnifer Goodwin’s latest appearance in LA is a beautiful example of this. We were ecstatic when we found out what her sparkling green dress was from none other than French Connection – and better yet, that it’s still available! Ginnifer’s shoes however aren’t as affordable (sniff) as they are in fact Jimmy Choos, but never fear, we found some black t-bar sandals that go with the dress quite nicely too! Is this not a perfect Christmas party outfit? Ozlem dress, £120, French Connection available at Very.co.uk Black t-bar platform sandals, £12, Spot on available at Debenhams

Paris Fashion Week SS13 highlights – Part 4

Hakaan drama aside, Paris Fashion Week has continued to go on without a hitch, as gorgeous collections from Stella McCartney, Chloe, Givenchy and Chanel recently made their way down the runway. We even had Hedi Slimane’s debut collection for Saint Laurent Paris (formerly YSL) to look forward to. Paris Fashion Week isn’t Paris Fashion Week without a lavish Chanel show at the Grand Palais. We sometimes think there are only so many ways one can rework the iconic tweed jacket, but every season Karl Lagerfeld seems to find something new. Kaiser Karl has once again excelled, putting on a flawless collection that is the perfect mix of classic Chanel and modern, contemporary femininity. And as self-confessed bag addicts, we were particularly drawn to the pieces of arm and shoulder candy this season, especially the hula-hoop and leg-inspired bags. The oversized pearls also went down quite well with us – we do love statement bling! Elsewhere in Paris, the Chloe and Giambattista Valli shows took place, once again reiterating what we said about exaggerated silhouettes being key to the new season. Even though this isn’t a Couture collection, we kind of expected some big, bold and beautiful dresses to come out towards the end of the Giambattista Valli show (after all, they are the designer’s forte) but that didn’t happen this time round. Still, Giambattista’s exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail is still evident even in the simplest of pieces, which proves just why he gained that all-impotant Haute Couture appellation so early on. Well played! We’ve been waiting for Hedi Slimane’s Saint Laurent debut ever since he joined the fashion House, and although this isn’t what we were expecting, we were quite impressed with what he managed to cook up. Akin to a lot of collections at Paris Fashion Week, Hedi’s […]

Paris Fashion Week SS13 highlights – Part 3

It was a busy weekend for the Parisian fashionistas, as Vivienne Westwood, Christian Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier and John Galliano were among the spring/summer 2013  collections which debuted on the French runways. We already saw Raf Simons present his debut collection for Christian Dior a few months ago during Couture Fashion Week, but we were still looking forward to seeing what direction he would take his first ready-to-wear line in. As a whole, it was contemporary and modern, but it was minimalistic. The subtle but very apparent hint of romanticism wasn’t lost in the new-season collection either, which just goes to show that Raf Simons has done his homework. We’re impressed! You can always expect a good gimmick from a Vivienne Westwood show, and the latest outing was no exception. The models essentially channelled Marie Antoinette with their hair and outfits, while some of them walked out with hearts on their faces – obviously the designer was keen to show and spread the love. Quite cute really! Jean Paul Gaultier collections are always a highlight, and once again the designer sought inspiration from famous faces. It was all about the late Amy Winehouse for the Couture show back in January, but this time round JPG paid tribute to more than one musical icon by presenting looks inspired by David Bowie, Boy George, Madonna and the legendary Michael Jackson. We imagine the catwalk show in itself would have been quite spectacular and the atmosphere somewhat electric. John Galliano was another hotly anticipated collection, as we were intrigued to find out what creative director Bill Gaytten was capable of doing now that he didn’t have Christian Dior to focus on as well. The collection definitely went in a different direction this season; gone was John Galliano’s love of theatrics, drama and all things attention-grabbing, […]

From the Sports Track to the Red Carpet: the Rise of the Tracksuit

Prada’s Olympic collection continues high fashion’s athletic obsession The S/S 2013 fashion season’s well underway, with London Fashion Week in full swing, but its Milan’s menswear catwalks that are still the talk of the town. Prada’s S/S men’s collection created a buzz, with its Olympic spirit clear for all to see. Thanks to Prada, just-like-that, the tracksuit is back. The collection features a supremely tailored take on the traditionally slouchy sportswear, with go faster stripe detailing switched to run the length of the inner, rather than outer, leg. Sweatbands, sports vests and polo shirts completed the look, alongside wide-strapped and striped rubber mules, reminiscent of retro Olympic swimmers. Prada’s sporty new look is a continuation of a trend set last year that saw the tracksuit take on a whole new level of couture cred. Dubbed the Track and Field trend by Vogue, dresses took on an athletic flavour, performance sports fabrics were used to create figure-hugging shapes, and the tracksuit was given an elegant overhaul by the world’s leading fashion houses, all in the run up to the Olympics. For the final seal of stylish approval, one of Britain’s most successful fashion exports, Stella McCartney, teamed up with Adidas this year to create the chicest Team GB uniforms yet. A long way from the eyepopping Jimmy Saville shellsuits of old, the sports gear has been toned down and tailored up, with designers using a whole range of fabrics to create a whole new take on this athletic staple. Helping the tracksuit sweat its way from the sports track to the red carpet, trendsetting celebrities have played as big a part as haute couturiers in transforming the tracksuit into a hot fashion item. We’ve seen a lot more of celebrities in their gym threads in recent years, thanks to the round-the-clock […]

Keira Knightley wears lace Chanel for American Vogue’s October issue

With London Fashion Week keeping bloggers and writers busy, it’s easy for some news-worthy items to get swept under the carpet. However, when the bit of news you’re referring to is English rose Keira Knightley fronting the October cover of American Vogue, you know that’s not going to happen. Especially when aforementioned cover star is wearing Chanel – and looking rather smouldering may we add! The lace dress on the cover screams Anna Karenina (the film Keira is promoting) but the gloves/sleeves – whatever you want to call them – give the look a bit of a modern, contemporary, and somewhat space-age feel to it. It shouldn’t work, but it does, right?! The editorial images are beyond brilliant too – shot by Mario Testino and styled by Grace Coddington, they showcase some of the finest Haute Couture items out there right now, and show Keira in a whole new light. We never knew she was capable of striking such fierce BINTM-worthy poses! Oh, and we should probably mention there are some hunky pictures of Jude Law in the editorial too… enjoy! [Vogue US]

London Fashion Week SS13 – Highlights from Day 2

Fashion, much like the city it’s currently creating a next season buzz in, never sleeps, and so it was on to day 2 of London Fashion Week. It was a super-busy day for us, zapping around what felt like the whole of London (in heels, too!), but it was the summer inspo for next season that kept us going. Oh, and tons of caffeine! Here are the show highlights from day 2 of London Fashion Week… Who:Tahir Sultan What: Marrying glamour with a everyday aesthetic, for SS’13, designer Tahir Sultan embellished beautifully fluid suits with studs, as to form a spine down the wearers back. Soft knits embellished with chain detailing; zingy pink and lime particularly caught our eye, paired with soft grey and charcoal hued structured blazers. Much emphasis was given to dressing below the waist, with colour-pop harem pants, Forties-inspired wide-leg trouser, and a show-stopping fringed skirt, paired with a blazer and emerald green heels, added after-hours drama to daytime dressing. Highlight: A black, low-tiered evening gown with feather and beaded fringing detail. To summarise: A collection “dedicated to the secret few who know that nothing is more fashionable than just being yourself” certainly justified the underlying ease and freedom that shone through the glamorous silhouettes. Who: Jeffrey Michael What: The collection titled “From the Water” looked to “a woman emerging from the waves and seafoam at midnight” took a fun-injected approach to the aquatic theme evident in the spring/summer 2012 collections. A colour palette of bubblegum pink, purple and ocean blue came with 3D fish-gill like detailing on dress corsets. Jeffrey Michael’s signature triangle print was fashioned to resemble scales, splashed across cropped halter necks and strapless bodies; a stunning corset embellished entirely with sea shells left us speechless, and flippy pleated skirts completed the look. Highlight: Faux […]

6 celebrity style icons worthy of their own clothing label

There is a long list of contemporary stylish ladies who are equally as eye catching as the Hepburn’s, Kelly’s and Monroe’s of yesteryear. These ladies have an ‘until death do us part’ kinda relationship with fashion, and their extensive wardrobes, impeccable taste and dedication to looking stylish knows no bounds. So to celebrate the women at the fore of fashionable happenings and their enviable sense of style, we’ve decided to chart our top 6 style icons… Rihanna We think RiRi’s sartorial reputation precedes her. Yes, she has a penchant for expletive-laden footwear (cue: X Factor performance in those trainers), wearing clothes emblazoned with illegal substances and often pushes the limits of fashion to an unimaginable edge, but she never fails to carry off her eccentric wardrobe. High Street, high fashion our outrageously high heels worn with leather shorts; she really is the only girl in the world who can execute it with perfection! Fave 2012 fashion moment: In Givenchy Haute Couture at the 2012 BRIT Awards, Olivia Palermo Gracing front row at headline-hitting fashion shows; girlfriend to a HOT model and the owner of a wardrobe over spilling with sartorial perfection, Olivia Palermo is a no-brainer on our Style Icons list! The flawless beauty, who fronts the cover of the Instyle UK October issue, revealed she likes ‘walking out of the house feeling fully pulled together.’ Something she sure has down to a t! The queen of nonchalant off-duty dressing (she even makes dog walking look stylish!), Olivia is often spotted in impeccable style staples, including a well cut jacket, a statement (not ‘It’) bag and wow-inducing heels. Olivia’s timeless style is easy to translate, and appeals to a wider population – a large chunk of which definitely likes to look fashionably ‘pulled together’. Blake Lively wore Marchesa down the aisle!

The only thing more shocking than discovering Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds got married in secret at the weekend was learning who designed her wedding dress. The blushing bride wore neither Chanel nor Gucci and actually went for a custom Marchesa gown instead – designed exclusively for her by Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig. Who would have thunk it? According to British Vogue, the new Mrs Reynolds wore a one-of a-kind Couture bridal ballgown with a hand-draped silk tulle bodice covered in crystals and rose gold embroidery. We need a pic… like, now! We’re not betting people, but would have wagered serious money that Blake would have glided down the aisle in a bespoke Chanel or Gucci number. Blake and Kaiser Karl have been friends for what seems like forever, and she is of course the face of Gucci’s new fragrance so they seemed like the obvious choices. Still, it wasn’t all shock-factor, as Blake reportedly wore a pair of her BFF Christian Louboutin’s shoes under her gown. And yes, he was invited to the wedding too! As for Ryan and the rest of the boys, reports are suggesting that they all wore Burberry suits custom made for them by Christopher Bailey! Are you still shocked Blake is now a married woman? Not only were some of the biggest and most stylish cities in the world taking part in Fashion’s Night Out, the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards were also happening in Los Angeles. As well as providing celebs another excuse to glam up, get merry and enjoy each other’s company, the VMAs are to celebrate music and the great videos that come with it. Therefore it should come as no surprise to learn that the red carpet was bursting with stylish famous faces, with the likes of Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and Emma Watson sitting pretty on our best dressed list. Marion Cotillard and Gwen Stefani talk fashion in Time’s Style & Design Fall issue

It’s exciting enough to learn that Time has just released the Fall 2012 issue of its biannual Time Style & Design, but imagine our delight when we discovered that Marion Cotillard was on the cover… and both she and Gwen Stefani were among the interviewees! Marion Cotillard has had her fair share of mag covers recently (as has Gwen!), and this is another one for her to be proud of, don’t you think? As Marion was the first celeb to wear new-season Dior Couture on the red carpet, it’s safe to say that she is regarded as quite a big fashion influence, so it was inevitable that she’d be asked to dish the dirt on her sartorial choices past and present. “I love men’s hats, because my father wears them,” Marion said. I wore a lot of my father’s clothes as a kid, even though most of the time it was a disaster.” And let’s not forget music and style goddess Gwen Stefani, who spoke out about songwriting and clothes designing. “I’m more experienced with songwriting,” she said when asked which was easier. “Design is more of a fun hobby. There’s not as much pressure. It’s not emotional. It’s so fun and so indulgent. It’s all about what I want and what I can make.” We can’t wait to get stuck into those interviews! Will you be getting the new Time Style & Design?

Karl Lagerfeld might not design Keira Knightley’s wedding dress after all…

As soon as we learnt that Keira Knightley and boyfriend James Righton would be tying the knot, our imaginations ran wild with potential wedding dress possibilities. Even though nothing was officially confirmed, we had it in our heads that Karl Lagerfeld would probably be given the honour; after all, if you’re the face of Chanel, why wouldn’t you want to wear a custom gown down the aisle, eh? “Well, that would be pretty generous of him,” Keira said about Kaiser Karl creating her dress. “He’s an incredible designer. Would I say yes? To be honest, I’m working on another film straight after Anna Karenina. “Then, maybe I’ll start thinking about the dress and the guests and the venue. It really depends on what sort of wedding I decide to have – if I go with jeans and t-shirt options, then maybe it wouldn’t be quite right. I haven’t decided on anything yet.” Please don’t walk down the aisle in jeans and a tee Keira. Granted, you look good in pretty much anything, but if you have the chance to wear a bespoke Chanel piece, don’t turn it down! Who else can see little Choupette acting as ring bearer? [Look]

Don’t expect to see Rachel Zoe at London Fashion Week (or Selfridges)

Just last week we heard through the grapevine that all was not well in Rachel Zoe land after her TV show faced being axed and her couture clothing label was rumoured to be doing badly too… but now there appears to be even more bad news for the famous celeb-stylist-turned-designer. As well as Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales and Nordstrom reportedly losing interest in her line due to poor sales, it’s also been announced that her collection will no longer be stocked in Selfridges either. And as a result of this, she therefore won’t be attending the Burberry show at London Fashion Week. Yikes! “Her London launch didn’t go as well as she’d hoped,” a source reportedly told The Daily Mail. “Selfridges dropped her clothing line because it was very expensive. They still have her shoe collection but the clothing line wasn’t as successful as hoped.” Unfair? Or is Rachel Zoe’s clothing line far too expensive for this recession we appear to still be in? [Telegraph]

Beauty in Blue, Kirsten Dunst scoops Best Dressed of the Week

Ah, there’s just something so exciting about landing our peepers on a cobalt blue dress! Kirsten Dunst radiated Oscar-worthy style at the LA premiere of Bachelorette, in a cobalt blue, Resort 2013 Jean Paul Gaultier trench maxi dress. Oh, the double-breast detailing and belted waist had us at hello! Opting for luscious, voluminous tresses; Kirsten stuck with a neutral palette on her face, adding a slick of dusky pink lipstick and lashings of mascara – we love! Accessories topped the fash stakes, too, as Kirsten wore her Gaultier dress with the ‘Elsie’ shoulder bag by Chloé, a Jennifer Mayer necklace and an all time classic Rolex timepiece. A refreshing look on the red carpet; this could’ve turned out to be a pretty boring ensemble minus the detailing, but can we really expect boring from fashion’s enfant terrible Gaultier?

Why DID Anna Wintour feature jeans on her first ever cover of Vogue? Find out here!

To celebrate the ultimate fashion Bible’s milestone 120th anniversary, Anna Wintour spoke out about the first issue she edited back in November of 1988 (pictured above with the first ever issue of the mag!), and what went through her head when she selected the cover look featuring Israeli model Michaela Bercu… “Michaela was wearing an haute couture Christian Lacroix jacket with a beaded cross, all very “Like a Prayer,” and stonewashed Guess jeans,” Anna writes.  “The jacket was actually part of a suit, but the skirt didn’t fit Michaela… not that that mattered. In fact, it only served to reinforce the idea to take couture’s haughty grandeur and playfully throw it headlong into real life and see what happened. “What none of us expected was to run that picture on the cover, least of all the magazine’s printers, who called up and asked with some consternation, ‘Has there been a mistake?’ I couldn’t blame them. It was so unlike the studied and elegant close-ups that were typical of Vogue’s covers back then, with tons of makeup and major jewellery. This one broke all the rules. “I had just looked at that picture and sensed the winds of change. And you can’t ask for more from a cover image than that.” We’ll say! Anna also selected 14 of her ultimate favourite images…  and a few of them might surprise you! Check them out in Vogue’s slideshow here. American Vogue’s September issue featuring Lady Gaga is out now!

Gwen Stefani rocks Jil Sander for the Harper’s Bazaar US September issue

Our Gwen Stefani girl crush has not only returned, but it’s now in overdrive after finally clapping eyes on cover for the Harper’s Bazaar US September issue. We don’t think the No Doubt singer has aged a bit since she last appeared on the scene a few years ago. and if you think her pictures, which were shot by Terry Richardson, are all smoke and mirrors (or airbrushing and Photoshop to be more accurate) then just watch Harper’s Bazaar’s behind the scenes video to be proved wrong. Gwen showcases her versatility in the editorial shoot, as she models very high fashion and more playful and edgy looks with ease. Our favourite piece without a doubt has to be the hot pink Diane von Furstenberg jumpsuit, although the baby pink Jil Sander dress that she wears on the cover (teamed with a fab Alexis Mabille Couture hat) comes a close second. The singer and style goddess talks to the mag about her own personal look, motherhood and returning to the music scene with her old band, among other things. “It’s superfun being a mom, but it’s hard too,” she said. “ Finding that balance between work and family is the hardest thing I’ve ever done by far.” Read more in Harper’s Bazaar’s September issue which hits newsstands on August 21st. Have fun waiting patiently until then!

Kate Beckinsale wears reptile Armani Privé to Total Recall premiere

Yesterday we gushed about her Total Recall co-star Jessica Biel, but today it’s all about the beauty that is Kate Beckinsale! The actress also made a statement at the LA premiere, as she wore a full-length reptile gown from the Armani Privé spring/summer 2012 collection. We didn’t expect this kind of dramatic look from Ms Beckinsale, as she usually goes for slightly more feminine and somewhat conventional pieces – and rocks them, may we add – but her sartorial risk definitely paid off! Such drama! Akin to her namesake Kate Middleton, Kate Beckinsale really does have some stunning brunette locks which always look divine when they’re left flowing rather freely on her shoulders. However, we think this slightly dishevelled up-do was the best choice this time around, as it complements the busy nature of the dress perfectly. Another style triumph – Jessica and Kate really have been smashing it on their Total Recall promotional tour!

Is Jaime King too young for this Giambattista Valli dress?

Giambattista Valli does make him some stunning gowns, no one can deny that. Why else would he get a Haute Couture appellation after just one collection, eh? So, although no one is doubting the elegance and pure beauty of his creations, we don’t think this particular dress (as gorgeous as it is!) from Giambattista Valli’s pre-fall 2012 collection works on Jaime King. Especially for the occasion she is wearing it for, which essentially just involved posing in front of a Lexus. Something more casual and quirky would have sufficed, we think. Had the dress been tailored and readjusted to sit just above the knee, it might have been more youthful and age appropriate but this doesn’t really do anything for us. The hair really doesn’t help either which is a real shame as we love the eccentric style Jamie usually brings to the table. Or red carpet. What do you guys reckon? [Image]

WATCH Raf Simons talk about his Christian Dior collection

Rumours about Raf Simons at Christian Dior have been rife even before the ink dried on his contract with the French fashion House. As far as rumours go, it’s hard to separate the fact from the fake, so it’s always appreciated when stuff comes straight from the horse’s mouth, so to speak. Christian Dior has therefore released a video of Raf Simons talking about his debut collection for Dior – the Couture extravaganza that took place earlier this month. It  received a lot of praise from the industry experts, but it’s always good to hear about the collection from the Creative Director himself. Watch the video yourselves to hear about where he drew inspiration for the collection, as well as how he added his own personal stamp on it. A great video – we hope there’s more where this one came from! http://youtu.be/IpojmLKC0lo
