Arm Candy: Vintage Rhinestone Bracelet

Fed up with big bold cocktail rings, I’ve recently developed an obsession with big bold bracelets. Last week, while sifting through the numerous press releases in my inbox I came across an email about Carole Tanenbaum and her gorgeous collection of vintage jewels. During her 25 years of buying one of a kind pieces, Tanenbaum has amassed a collection of over 15,000 limited edition jewels that date back to the Victorian period right through to the 1980’s. And that is how I came across this beauty – a romantic silver bow bracelet embellished with blue rhinestones. Beautiful isn’t it? $400 available at

Why Brazilian Waxing Is Still In Fashion

Brazilian waxing exploded onto the beauty scene in the early 2000s when stars like Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Aniston were rumored to go bare down there. While extremely painful, Brazilian waxes leave clients smooth, stubble-free, and with minimal regrowth for weeks. Even with the body positivity movement in full swing, the Brazilian wax remains an enduring trend two decades later. From 20-something spring breakers, to suburban moms, to post-menopausal women – people across demographics continue to book these infamous waxing appointments. Sure, the 1970s bush may be back for some. But for many women, feeling confident and sexy means ripping it all off every four weeks. Ahead, we’ll explore why Brazilian waxing has such staying power. We’ll look at shifting beauty standards, ingenious marketing, and good old-fashioned peer pressure. Whether you love them or find them torturous, Brazilian waxes don’t seem to be going out of style anytime soon. Read on to find out why. A Brief History of Going Bare Down There Way back when, women in ancient Egypt and Greece would use a sticky paste made of sugar and lemon juice to remove unwanted hair. Fast forward a few thousand years, and the modern bikini wax burst onto the scene in the 1970s as actresses flaunted their tiny two-pieces on screen. Removing “bikini line” hair suddenly seemed necessary! Then, in 1987, seven entrepreneurial Brazilian sisters opened up a waxing salon in New York City aptly named J Sisters. They began offering a service that removed all hair front to back, and thus dubbed it the “Brazilian wax.” Throughout the 90s and early 2000s, Brazilians exploded in popularity thanks to celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, tabloid talk, and even a very memorable episode of Sex and the City! So while ripping hair from nether regions is far from a new […]

Sarah Jessica Parker Is Giving Us Major Carrie Bradshaw Fever

Oh how we miss Sex and the City! The jokes, the gals, the men and of course the fashion. Nothing compares. And we suspect Sarah Jessica Parker misses it just as much as we do. Wearing an outfit too the ACE awards that was 100% reminiscent of our favourite New York writer a.k.a Carrie Bradshaw’s ensembles on the hit show, SJP looked fab in a romantic white ruffled off-the-shoulder dress with metallic accents that was brought t life with a cute pair of bright bright blue peep-toes with a bow detail. We’re filled with nostalgia. Thoughts? Are you loving her look? [Image]

Sarah Jessica Parker gets in trouble for that photoshoot outside ‘Carrie’s’ apartment…

We nearly wet ourselves with excitement when Sarah Jessica Parker shared a pic of a pair shoes outside Carrie Bradshaw’s New York apartment, as we thought it was another hint that a Sex and the City 3 movie was happening. Although SJP took actually the pic to promote the latest collection of her shoe line (sneaky!) as part of an ‘unauthorised’ photoshoot, we will forgive her as the collection looks better – and more colourful – than ever. The actual residents of 66 Perry Street, however, don’t feel the same way… “The owners are up in arms as they deal with relentless tourists, and SJP has ignored their requests for an explanation on how she could endorse the shoot, even though ‘no trespassing’ signs are posted,” a source reportedly told Page Six. “SJP used their house during the years of filming, and now won’t acknowledge that she and her company used the steps and facade, this time without permission, to promote her shoe line.” Yikes! We would never complain if SJP wanted to take pics outside our doorstep… [Grazia]

We love Sarah Jessica Parker’s personal shoe names for her new collection!

Just when you thought Sarah Jessica Parker’s debut shoe collection for Nordstrom was one of the best celebrity footwear lines out there, the actress has only gone and outdone herself with the second installment. SJP’s new collection is just as dreamy as the debut range she has spent the past few months promoting – and we think the names she has given each pair of shoes is one of the main reasons why. The ‘Pat’ is a fabulous statement boot which was named after the woman who made Sex and the City as fashionable as it was – the legendary costume designer Patricia Field. “[Patricia] has been an enormous influence on me and millions of others,” Sarah gushed. “Without her contributions, Carrie Bradshaw would have been incomplete.” What a lovely thing to say – and we kind of agree too! We’d like to think that naming a gorgeous boot after her is Sarah Jessica Parker’s way of saying thank you. The ‘Serge’ boot is another highlight from the new collection, and not just because it was named after SJP’s genius hair stylist Serge Normant. The pumps are pretty desirable too – the ‘Rachel’ pump was named after her sister – aww – while the ‘Blythe’ pump was named after actress Blythe Danner. We can’t wait to see what else Sarah Jessica Parker has up her sleeve for this epic collection. Do you think naming her shoes after people she knows and admires is a nice personal touch? Blake Lively’s 73 question challenge for American Vogue August issue

American Vogue has once again given meaning to that “save the best ‘til last” phrase as it debuted it August 2014 issue featuring the one and only Blake Lively. How good does she look on the cover? We definitely think it’s been worth the wait! The former Gossip Girl actress was shot by Mario Testino for the publication’s annual Age Issue, and looked the epitome of perfection in the process. As well as looking phenomenal in each and every one of her pictures (standard!), the actress, Gucci ambassadress and style maven opened up about pretty much everything thanks to an epic 73 question challenge posed by the mag. Trust us, it’s a good’un! We learnt that she wore a coral dress to her prom, that she identifies with all the men in Sex and the City (interesting, especially as we always had her down as a Carrie Bradshaw), and what life with her and Ryan Reynolds is really like. We won’t spoil it for you, but prepare for lots of “ooh”ing and “aww”ing as it’s pretty darn adorable. Especially when you find out about the super personal gifts they give each other…

Celebrities with Bad Legs: Who’s Done What?

While the term varicose veins may conjure up an image of an elderly lady in thick, ugly hose, this condition strikes almost half of all women—including celebrities. Those enlarged veins can be painful as well as unsightly, so it’s no surprise that famous women who want to look red-carpet perfect every day have undergone surgery to have them removed or minimized. According to press reports, 40-something “Sex and the City” star Kristin Davis opted to have varicose vein surgery after being displeased by the way her legs looked in the 2008 film based on the cable TV series. The NY Post claims that Davis slipped into Roosevelt hospital soon after the movie was released to have the look of her legs improved. Davis has not admitted to having the surgery, but her newly smooth, sleek legs tell the story. While most women suffering from vein problems severe enough to require surgery are over 40, the barely 30-year-old Britney Spears was reported to have undergone “keyhole surgery” in 2012 to get rid of those pesky veins. After all, a pop star that loves showing off her prize pins in short skirts and skimpy costumes like Spears does must have picture perfect legs! Unlike the celebrity ladies mentioned above, Emma Thompson has been very honest about her own problems with varicose veins. Back in 2006, the actress grew tired of hiding her unsightly, knotted veins beneath long skirts and pants, so she checked into a clinic to have them surgically removed. By September, Thompson was out on the red carpet, showing off her slim, shapely legs in a revealing Prada dress. She told the UK Daily Mail, “The dress is short and the legs are out on show. I had the varicose veins out this year and the scars are nearly healed, […]

Sarah Jessica Parker in Louis Vuitton for Harper’s Bazaar UK April

Yep, the first of the April fashion glossy covers are landing, and we’re delighted to welcome Sarah Jessica Parker onto the Harper’s Bazaar UK April issue, especially as she’s looking more radiant than ever in Louis Vuitton! We love her accompanying interview too, especially the part about her – Sarah Jessica Parker, the former Carrie Bradshaw – not really having as many shoes and clothes as we expect her to. Although her suede Manolo Blahnik black pumps from the Sex and the City wardrobe are her all-time faves… “I used to wear them 18 hours a day for the show and loved it,” she said about her infamous Manolos. “I still have all those shoes – anything I’ve ever worn in any movie or television show in my life is archived – but I really don’t shop that much. “Also, I have a small closet. It’s a mess! It looks fine to the naked eye, but things are shoved in every corner. Friends come round and say, “But I have more clothes than you.”’ Hmm, we’re not sure if we believe that! We can’t wait to read the rest of her interview and gaze at all the stunning high fashion pieces she is rocking.

It’s here! Finally every single piece from Sarah Jessica Parker’s debut shoe collection has been unveiled, and it looks like we are going to have a very hard time choosing which styles to snap up when they go on sale next month. Either that, or February is going to be a very expensive month indeed… The collection is comprised of a variety of different styled shoes, from T-bars to silettos to wedges to foot-friendly flip-flops and more – all of which have been inspired by her life in some shape or form. “I’ve taken inspiration from things in my life such as the grosgrain ribbons I tied in my hair as a girl, to the flower accents from the Sex and the City wardrobe, to references to classic styles from the late Seventies and early Eighties,” Sarah Jessica Parker said. “I’m a firm believer in quality and timelessness and have created this collection with the hopes that women will love wearing it for years to come.” Ah, a girl after our own hearts! First look at Sarah Jessica Parker’s SJP shoe collection!

If you’re feeling gloomy on the first Monday back to work after the Christmas holidays, then we have something that will cheer you up: a sneak preview at Sarah Jessica Parker’s upcoming shoe and bag collection! Yep, we thought that would perk you up! We present you with, the ‘Diana’ – a black, leather, patent Mary Jane single sole stiletto which will retail for £240. Looks pretty, doesn’t it? “I really wanted to bring back the single sole,” Sarah said of the Diana. “I wanted to go back in time and be the 11-year-old that was looking in the window at Charles Jourdan and Maud Frizon and recall those great, gorgeous colours and the way people made shoes without thinking about anyone else, just doing what excites them.” Exciting is definitely one of the words we had in mind. And can we discuss how reminiscent it is to the Manolo Blahnik Mary Jane shoes Carrie Bradshaw found in the Vogue cupboard in Sex and the City? Coincidence? We’ll let you be the judge! If you’re not keen on the black though then don’t despair, as the shoes come in a variety of colours and materials. I.e. there’s lots for you to drool over choose from! The full collection lands at Nordstrom in February so not long to wait. What do you think of the first look from the SJP collection? [Grazia]

Is the scrunchie making a comeback?

Is the scrunchie making a comeback? Well, Cara Delevingne, Jennifer Aniston and potentially future royal Cressida Bonas all seem to think so. “They represented attitude, which feels like what young London is all about at the moment,” said Tina Outen, a high-flying fashion stylist. “I’d have fun with them: layering a few brights hides a multitude of sins if you haven’t got that ponytail perfect, and they can add instant volume.” Has that convinced you to get in on the trend? We’re all for trying new things – or reviving a popular trend from the eighties – but we can’t get Carrie Bradshaw’s overreaction to a hair scrunchie in Sex and the City out of our heads. Then again, that show’s not as current as we like to think it is, so maybe it’s time to stop taking all our fashion advice from there… What do you guys think? Will you be rocking a hair scrunchie in the coming months? And will you be buying one for yourself or a loved one this Christmas? [Guardian]

Sarah Jessica Parker wows on Harper’s Bazaar US September issue

She was one of the best dressed ladies at this year’s prestigious Met Gala, and she also played one of the most stylish ladies in one of our favourite TV shows of all time, so we think Sarah Jessica Parker has more than earned her place as a September cover girl. SJP been photographed by Terry Richardson for Harper’s Bazaar’s September 2013 issue – and look how happy she seems about it! Sarah looks the spit of her Sex and the City alter ego Carrie Bradshaw in the editorial pictures, what with all the stunning high fashion pieces she is rocking like a pro. Her interview is not to be missed either; here’s what she had to say about her 16-year marriage to Matthew Broderick: “Matthew and I come from a different time and place. When we were young people, all we ever wanted was to be good working actors,” she said. “We didn’t think of fame or money because, honestly, money was never part of the dream. It was to work in theater, to be around those people whose work I was in total awe of. I never saw the trappings; nobody talked about being a celebrity.” “So when our marriage came up in conversation, it wouldn’t occur to us that we were obligated to respond to allegations or gossip. You have to be a bit circumspect, but you also have to take up a position, and you have to stick to it.” Perhaps that’s why they have one of the longest and most successful marriages Hollywood has ever seen! You can read more of Sarah Jessica Parker’s interview in the September issue of Harper’s Bazaar US, out August 20th.

Royal Ascot: Less Katie Price, more Kate Middleton

Royal Ascot. Two words which are met with mixed emotions: dread, fear, excitement and confusion. Royal Ascot is fast approaching, and at best, it’s pretty much just a fun day at the races with our bestest gal pals. We take the day off work, we drink a bit, we laugh a bit, we gamble a bit (naughty!), and we do it all while wearing our nice dresses, sky high heels that get stuck in the grass, and over-the-top hats. It’s all very Sex and the City, and we’re supposed to have a jolly good time. However, Royal Ascot fashion isn’t as simple as a nice dress teamed with some matching accessories though. It’s far more complicated than that. Hence the aforementioned confusion. And as the dress-code for this month’s Royal Ascot is stricter than ever this year, we have a feeling race-goers and official staff alike are going to be dreading it – as it’s just so easy to get it wrong! For many ladies (we’re not naming any names or pointing the finger at any particular counties) the notion of dressing up actually means quite the opposite. Dressing down. Or dressing not-at-all. The more big and glam the event, the more skin some ladies think has to be shown, which is one of the main problems the Royal Ascot faced before the ultra-strict dress code was implemented. Apart from the occasional wedding and lavish cocktail Christmas party, most British ladies don’t really get the chance to properly dress up, which is probably why so many of us get it wrong. The only thing we regularly dress up for is a night on the tiles at the weekend, and we all know that “less is more” is the unanimous clubwear mantra. Great for clubbing while on the pull, not so […]

Sarah Jessica Parker for the Elle US Women in Hollywood November issue

Well done Elle US for snapping up Sarah Jessica Parker for the 19th Annual Women in Hollywood November issue. She was shot by Alex Lubomirski and is wearing a stunning white Calvin Klein Collection dress for the cover; although we think she was a tad on the over-airbrushed side for the main image, we think the behind-the-scenes-esque photo is utter perfection. We wouldn’t change a thing – the Alexander McQueen dress in particular looks like it was made for her! And even though SJP has a guest role on Glee playing the editor-in-chief of Vogue Online, she insists that she doesn’t want to be type cast in the  “woman who loves fashion” role because (and we totally agree) no one can top Carrie Bradshaw/Sex and the City! “I don’t love the idea of playing another woman who loves fashion and is slightly flawed in New York City,” she said. “I loved Carrie, and I don’t want to do the poor man’s version of her. And while those are often the lucrative things to do, it’s more reason to look in the other direction.” Ps: As if SJP isn’t reason enough to nab the issue, other prominent women in Hollywood such as Emma Watson, Octavia Spencer, Elle Fanning and Kristen Wiig also make an appearance in the editorial. Not to be missed!

Watch the best trailer of The Carrie Diaries yet!

We’ve previously treated you to a teaser pic here and a sneaky video there, but now it’s time to get a full-on preview of what we can expect from The Carrie Diaries when it finally hits our screens next year. The three-minute trailer gives us some very clear insights into what we can expect from the plot of the new show, including Carrie – played by AnnaSophia Robb – mourning the loss of her mother, making new friends, and leaving her old life behind for a new start in Manhattan! Akin to her present-day Sex and the City character, the young Carrie Bradshaw seems to find herself in some sticky situations too… one of which, according to the trailer, involves choosing between a rather handsome young man or a work function. Which one will she go for? Guess we’re just going to have to watch it to find out! We’ve been doing our research, and while the air date hasn’t officially been confirmed, it looks like the show is definitely coming to British shores! We’ll keep you posted!

The slipper! To wear or not to wear? Now that is the question

While flicking through the Browns website earlier this week, I came across a lovely selection of slippers by Avec Moderation and was quite tempted to snap a pair up. Just before entering the crucial credit card deets though, I stopped in my tracks and had a mini epiphany…  am I actually going to spend £200 on a pair of slippers? When do I even wear slippers? Would I let anyone see me in slippers? Surely if I had a hot date at my humble abode I’d be more tempted to slip into some six-inch heels. After all, I am not Hugh Hefner! Obviously the boys are all for a girl lounging around in sleepwear (read: sexy lingerie courtesy of Victoria’s Secret) but last time I checked, I don’t think slippers are part of that fantasy. I quite like the androgynous feel of these Avec Moderation slippers though; after all, the trend is totally in right now and Alexa Chung is a fine example of how it can be done right. Plus, it’s a known fact that the boys are hugs fans of girls borrowing their clothes, but this usually applies to a shirt in a post-coitus situation and sadly, I don’t think these slippers have the same effect. I’ve now got a flashback to that scene in Sex and the City where Samantha persuades Carrie to invest in those fluffy, heeled slippers to spice things up in the bedroom. Are these the 2012 version, do you reckon? I know I’m going round in circles now, which brings me back to my initial thought… when would I actually wear these slippers? There’s something quite Princess Jasmine/Arabian nights about the ones above which make it really tempting to make a purchase, but I can’t see them being everyone’s cup of tea. What […]

La Perla opens new boutique in Dubai

As if there weren’t already enough reasons to want to take a trip to Dubai this summer (or any time of the year if we’re being totally honest), one more has just been added to the list: the opening of a brand new La Perla! The La Perla Boutique resides in the Mall of Emirates, an exclusive place for shopping in the heart of what is known as ‘New Dubai’. Another one is opening in Abu Dhabi at the end of the year too! (Anyone else getting a slight Sex and the City 2 movie flashback right now?) As well as everything you’d expect from a La Perla store, you’ll also find a museum area which displays vintage items and one of a kind pieces! Pretty cool, right? We like what we see in the pics, but wouldn’t mind heading over there ourselves just to double check. Anyone fancy buying us a ticket?

The truth about that Victoria Beckham/Sarah Jessica Parker collaboration

When we first heard the rumours that Victoria Beckham and Sarah Jessica Parker could be collaborating on a clothing line, we understandably nearly fell off our chairs before proceeding to jump up and down on them and hyperventilate in a fit of excitement. You get the picture – we were loving it, and weren’t afraid to show it! However, we knew that they were only rumours, and despite having all our fingers, toes and other body parts crossed, it’s been confirmed that they’re not actually true. Sad face! A spokesperson for Victoria Beckham confirmed to British Vogue this morning that Victoria will not be creating a clothing line with SJP any time soon. Still, we’re remaining optimistic that a collaboration could still be on the cards in the future. After all, VB has spoken out about how much she loves SJP, Sex and the City and Carrie Bradshaw, while the actress has stepped out in Victoria’s designs on more than one occasion. Our fingers still remain well and truly crossed! To quote Justin Bieber, “never say never”!

London Fashion Week SS12: Caroline Charles

This is a guest post by Maria Pierides, one of our fabulous competition winners. She’s been hitting the tents at Somerset House as a guest fashion reporter for My Fashion Life to cover as many of London’s spring shows as she can make – find out how she got on when we armed her with a bag full of tickets and sent her packing… Who: Caroline Charles What: Vintage 1920s Chanel-like cuts and silhouettes. Monochrome was very prominent, but it was varied with different patterns, consistencies and textures. Hats are once again all the rage, so hat lovers and milliners everywhere rejoice! Highlights: The sparkly pieces, oh how we adored the sparkly pieces. The collection was accessorised flawlessly from the waist cinching belts to the Coco Chanel-esque lace gloves – attention to detail at its best. Lowlights: sometimes the black belts distorted the silhouette of some pieces – it would have been nice to see the odd clean line just to get a sense of the structure. Overall: This is quite a Sex and the City collection – Charlotte York would be in heaven draped in most of these numbers. If businesswomen wanted to compromise style over comfort in London’s albeit rare summer days, this collection will give them the best of both worlds. The suits, particular pleasers, looked refreshing both in style and in material. We actually squealed when the sparkly pieces made their runway appearance – the perfect way to end the show if ever there was one. Plus, it’s the first show this season where the models have made a conscious effort to smile; and they had every reason to. Chic Shoegasms: Miu Miu’s gorgeous Mary Janes

The Mary Jane has been tipped to be huge for next season. It’s versatile enough to work with autumn’s Sixties scene and classic enough to provide your new winter wardrobe with an on-trend twist. Miu Miu celebrates the return of this classic shoe with its own quirky tribute: the peep toe platform Mary Jane. But with their steep price tag, you are, however, going to have to be pretty sure that ‘quirky’ is what you want in an investment like this. And so it boils down to an argument between classic and quirky.   If you like to rock the quirky look then these Miu Miu Mary Janes will be right up your street. In patent nude, these peep toe platforms work a flared block heel, abstract bow detail and a thin strap across the instep. They’ve also got next season’s buckle trend on side with their petite gold-toned fastening. If you love to work a look that steers away from the usual fashion crowd, £420 might not sound as much anymore (and, I’ll bet that block heel will be a little easier to walk in than a stiletto). But with such a high accompanying price tag, my only concern is that these Mary Jane’s won’t work for those of us who yearn for the more versatile take on the Mary Jane. If it were me, I think I’d rather pay tribute to the Mary Jane this season with something a little more stylistically classic – perhaps something from Louboutin, with a pointed toe. Basically, anything along the lines of the ‘urban shoe myth’ that Carrie Bradshaw established as real in Sex and the City – now those shoes are the ones I’d pay £420 for. Miu Miu Peep-Toe Platform Mary Janes, £420, available from MyTheresa.com.

Lunchtime buy: Judith Leiber Cupcake keyfob

We’d love to say that we could afford to splash out on a Judith Leiber clutch whenever we fancied a novelty, crystal-embellished treat, but the reality is, that’s probably never going to happen. In fact, we’re still trying to work out how Lily – the four-year-old – wound up with her very own Judith Leiber cupcake purse, which she carried for Carrie’s wedding in the first Sex and the City movie. But never mind that, because we’ve just stumbled upon a little sparkly something from the luxury accessories brand that won’t dent our credit card so much: the Judith Leiber fine-crystal embellished keyfob. We’re not usually ones for accessorising our keys with designer gear but this little cupcake is too adorable to ignore. No, it’s not going to outshine little Lily’s, but it’ll tie us over until we manage to scrape enough together for something as bling as the Zebra clutch. £225 / $295 from Net-a-Porter.

Lea Michele in Zac Posen at the 2010 Tony Awards

Ever since we witnessed Michelle Williams at the 2006 Oscars in that bold, floor-length Vera Wang, we’ve had a bit of a thing for canary yellow on the red carpet. So you can imagine our joy when we saw photos of the Tony Awards last night and stumbled upon Glee star, Lea Michele, in this gorgeous Zac Posen number. Michele has made some brave style choices over the last year, having appeared in a leather mini dress to the New Moon premiere and having opted for an all-nude look in Herve L. Leroux at the DGA Awards, and while this might be a difficult colour to pull-off, Michele does it effortlessly with minimal accessories and just a dash of dark pink lippy. As we soon recalled Diane Kruger’s stunning, yellow Jason Wu gown at this year’s SAG Awards, we began to reminisce about all those other yellow beauties that have graced the red carpet thus far… Michele Williams wearing Vera Wang at the 2006 Oscars Reese Witherspoon wearing Nina Ricci at the 2007 Golden Globes Angelina Jolie wearing Emanuel Ungaro at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival Kate Beckinsale wearing Luisa Beccaria at the 2008 SAG Awards Vanessa Williams wearing Escada at the 2008 SAG Awards Diane Kruger wearing Jason Wu at the 2010 SAG Awards Dannii Minogue wearing Lisa Ho at the 2010 Elle Style Awards Sarah Jessica Parker wearing Valentino Couture at the New York Sex and the City 2 premiere We’re definitely going to brighten up our wardrobe with a splash of yellow this season. We might not have any red carpet events to attend but this short, draped dress from DVF is versatile enough to wear from day to night. And it’s reduced! £504 £248 from Matches.

Lunchtime buy: Halston jersey open-back gown

Yes. We’re in love with all things Halston. Fresh off the back of Sex and the City 2, we’ve been scouting out the very best pieces from 70s-inspired fashion house Halston, and its equally glamourous diffusion line, Halston Heritage. Having watched on enviously as Carrie Bradshaw totters around Manhattan and Abu Dhabi in her Halston Heritage designs, we logged on to to see if we could find any of Marios Schwab’s premium-line Halston pieces at a more credit-card friendly price. Sure enough, we struck gold with this open-back jersey LBD from The Outnet. That’s long black dress, don’t ya know! This simple yet striking number is less SJP and more Cynthia Nixon, judging by the red-headed beauty’s recent red carpet choices. Safe but sexy, this is an absolute classic. £2,295 £688.50 from The Outnet.

Lunchtime buy: Dogeared SATC necklace

Film merchandising is big business these days so it’s no surprise that we’ve started to see lots of Carrie Bradshaw-esque accessories hit the shelves prior to the release of the much-anticipated Sex and the City 2 movie. We thought we might be over the silver-screen / jewellery crossover after the fantastic efforts from the likes of Tom Binns and Anna Lou of London for Alice in Wonderland but once again, we’ve found ourselves wanting more of that sparkling movie merchandise. Always suckers for anything shoe-related, we’re quite taken by this delicate, sterling silver necklace from Dogeared, which features a cute, stiletto pendant. Aptly entitled ‘I’m not afraid of heights!’ This fun, SATC-inspired piece is just the thing to get you in the mood for the film… (not long now, ladies!) Not a fan of the silver? My-Wardrobe are also selling the gold-dipped version – just a tad more pricey, at £68. £58 from My-Wardrobe.

Oscars 2010: the dresses

Last night’s 82nd Academy Awards were full of memorable moments. Not only did The Hurt Locker pip the box-office smash Avatar to the post on more than one occasion, but Neil Patrick Harris (a.k.a. Doogie Howser) opened the event with a camp and surreal musical display of sequins and feathers and Ben Stiller dressed up as a Na’vi. Yep, he had the tail and everything. But before the ceremony began, we took a look at the red carpet to have a nosey at the stars to see what they were saying about their films… and more importantly, who dressed them. Here’s a few of the lovely ladies and the gowns they chose for 2010’s Oscars. Elizabeth Banks – Versace One of the best dressed of the night was Elizabeth banks who had previously hosted Oscar’s Scientific and Technical Awards the night before. Dressed in a risky grey Versace gown, Banks opted for a thin hairband with her up ‘do and peach-coloured eye shadow. Sandra Bullock – Marchesa Best Actress winner, Sandra Bullock looked every inch the Hollywood star in this glamourous number from Marchesa. It’s a bit too metallic for our liking but the hair and makeup round off the classic look perfectly. Carey Mulligan – Prada Brit newcomer Carey Mulligan has had some great red carpet moments recently and this one might just be her best yet. The black number from Prada features a flattering sweetheart neckline with a box pleat skirt that could have so easily ended in disaster. We couldn’t see closely enough but apparently, the dress is embellished with Swarovski flowers and knife, fork and scissor charms! Amanda Seyfried – Armani Prive We can’t help but think this Armani Prive drowned Amanda Seyfried. It also probably didn’t help that J Lo was wearing a fairly similar […]
