‘Sex and the City’ stylist Patricia Field thinks “MC Hammer” pants are this season’s ultimate fashion statement.

Patricia – who has styled stars in movies such as ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’ and ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ – says the baggy trousers are the perfect way to stand out in a crowd.

She said: “MC Hammer pants are a good place to start if you want to stand out. Or pants with stirrups. I’d definitely recommend investing in some harem pants too. Other than that, make sure you tap into the hardwear trend with a good hair accessory or hat.”

Meanwhile, Patricia has branded ‘Poker Face’ singer Lady Gaga and former Spice Girls star Victoria Beckham “style icons”.

Hermes are breeding their own crocodiles to meet demand for their leather bags.

There is a waiting list of several years for some of the French luxury group’s exotic-skin bags - which cost around $50, 000 - and so executives have decided to establish their own farms to create a bigger supply.

Chief executive Patrick Thomas told Reuters: ‘We are now breeding our own crocodiles on our own farms, mainly in Australia. The world is not full of crocodiles, except the stock exchange.

‘We cannot face demand. We have massive over-demand. We are limited by our ability to train new craftsmen.’

If you thought Victoria Beckham’s last campaign for Amarni underwear was hot then check out this campaign. She is quite literally sizzling. Once more her figure looks amazing, I am not so sold on the coiled hairpiece, but then I guess it does create a 1950s B Movie feel. You can almost imagine her as a glamorous heroine being pursued by a massive plastic dinosaur.

The images were unveiled yesterday at Macy’s, New York, where the 20 ft banner will pose proudly on the main floor. Victoria also looked sleek and stylish at the unveiling dressed in a stunning Emporio Armani tux style jacket and Swarovski crystal leggings. The accessories were of course all Armani, including her drool-worthy shoes.

The Costume Institute Gala is tonight. It really is the event of the year, when you can watch the most glamorous starlets dressed in the most creative of gowns. This year the theme is ‘Model as Muse’ and there have been hundreds of rumours over who is dressing who.

This is what we do know: Marc Jacobs and Kate Moss are co-hosting alongside Anna Wintour, Madonna and Victoria Beckham are on Marc Jacobs’ table and that Madonna will be dressed in Louis Vuitton whilst Victoria has opted for Marc Jacobs.

We have also heard that Karl Lagerfeld and Matthew Williamson won’t be attending.

I’m starting to think that there may be a little game of ‘anything you can do I can do better’ in the Beckham household. We’ve seen each of them jump on advertising wagon, the reinvent yourself train, the trend bus – ok enough with the transport metaphors. But they do seem to like to copy each other, remember David wearing a skirt? Or how about the Armani underwear adverts?

But after Victoria’s success as a designer, it looks like David wants a piece of the action.

Although she has been facing some stiff competition from Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss always tends to be the first when it comes to trends. Last night Kate was spotted out and about in a Balmain dress hot off the Autumn/Winter 09 catwalks.

She started her evening at Nobu and then headed off for canapés and champagne at Movida nightclub to celebrate the launch of the new White Light diamond, and was joined by lots of lovely celebs including David Walliams, Noel Fielding, Rhys Ifans, Jo Wood and Bobby Gillespie.

What would you wear if you running around in the blistering heat of the LA sunshine? Perhaps a maxi dress? A cute pair of city shorts? Or maybe a playsuit? Would you ever choose a heavy black dress and ankle boots?

Well this was Victoria Beckham’s outfit of choice this weekend as she took her sons out for a stroll. She was of course working the trends, zips are a key embellishment for Spring/Summer 09 while exaggerated hips create the silhouette of choice for Autumn/Winter 09. I don’t know how she manages to work so many trends at the same time so seamlessly.

She is certainly working the look and the boots and sunglasses look fab. Again, I wish she would have a bag other than a Hermes. But although it all looks great, and we know she does like to stand out, this is a little heavy, even a little sombre, for a summer’s day.

Perhaps if she swapped the black dress for white or hot pink. What do you make of Victoria’s look this week? Is it appropriate for a day out with the kids? But should fashion ever be appropriate?

Shoulders are huge both in size and status. They are the must have silhouette for Spring/Summer 09 and will continue right through into Autumn/Winter. And you can always rely on Victoria Beckham to dabble in the trends before anyone else.

And her she is in all her Balmain Spring/Summer 09 glory. As a colleague commented it’s like Audrey Hepburn joined the Hell’s Angels, but I kind of like it.

The jeans are without doubt amazing, and the jacket is very Adam and the Ants but it really works. This high fashion look was all in aid of some well deserved shopping in Milan. And possibly to celebrate her new status as a voiceover artist. If you didn’t hear she’s done a voice for the cartoon Spongebob Squarepants in which she plays a Princess. We’ve also heard that she may be making a bit of a career out of voiceovers so watch this space.

Back to the clothes, I do love the whole ensemble, but I would love to see a bag on her arm that isn’t a Hermes Birkin. How do you feel about the exaggerated shoulders? Is it a trend you’re feeling or fearing?

Oh fashion is a fickle world. One minute a designer is declaring his undying admiration for you and the next he’s moved onto the next ‘new hot thing’.

Well this is the tale of woe for Victoria Beckham. It wasn’t that long ago that Vicky and Marc Jacobs were BFFs, all hugging and strutting and of course climbing out of paper bags. But now rumours are rife that Anne Hathaway is the new Marc Jacobs muse.
