Five minutes With Heidi Gosman – Founder Of Heidi Klein

The prospect of packing your suitcase and jetting off to sunnier shores is exciting no end, but when it comes to perfecting that beach wardrobe, do you really give it enough thought? My Fashion Life caught up with swimwear supremo Heidi Gosman, the name behind luxury holiday wear brand, Heidi Klein, to discuss hideaway holiday spots, beach beauty essentials and the secret to ensure your holiday wardrobe is as sizzling as your vacay destination: Describe your perfect capsule holiday wardrobe? The perfect holiday capsule is well-thought out, with bikinis that can be easily mixed and matched, or paired with some lightweight kaftans; an oversized white shirt is a must pack, a large sunhat and a great pair of sunglasses to protect you when out in the sun. What was the inspiration behind the spring/summer 2014 collection? The inspiration for each story in the collections comes from our travels to beautiful places around the world, and also from those places we have yet to visit. The spring/summer 2014 collection embraces a modern twist feel this season, with sharp contrasts and bold colour harmonies running across both swimwear and cover ups. What swimwear styles would you recommend for our readers who may not feel bikini confident this holiday season? Instead of hiding or masking areas you don’t like, enhance areas you do like and wear your bikini with confidence. Choose a colour that suits your skin tone. I always recommend getting a spray tan before buying your swimwear, so you can choose the right shade for when you’ve got your holiday bronze. Consider the destination and style your wardrobe to suit the location. The Heidi Klein Control One Piece in Vamizi and Persia is perfect for the fuller figure, nipping in the waist, supporting the bust and creating a beautiful silhouette.  It is made […]

Steve Madden and Brian Atwood collaborate!

Here’s yet another designer collaboration to get excited about: shoe gurus Steve Madden and Brian Atwood are joining forces! The designers are going into partnership together, and will take over the Brian Atwood and B Brian Atwood intellectual property from previous owners The Jones Group. Without going into too much confusing detail, the move will basically see Steve Madden compete with the luxury greats such as Jimmy Choo, Christian Louboutin and Manolo Blahnik, which is a pretty big leap for the designer. Although Steve Madden Ltd. is worth a very impressive, $1.3billion, the designer is yet to tap into the luxury goods market. Until now! “We are an incredible balance to each other: both entrepreneurs, both passionate about shoes and building brands,” Brian Atwood said. “Steve brings the expertise in successfully operating global fashion brands with a wide bench of industry-leading resources and the talent and vision to optimise B Brian Atwood, while I bring the luxury market and designer experience. “This is the perfect next step for me in achieving my vision for the overall Brian Atwood brand in partnership with Steve. I have spent more than 13 years nurturing my brand with great clarity and now is the time to capitalise on that work.” Brian Atwood will still oversee the design and creative control, but he will use Steve Madden’s team to execute the plans. We can expect to see the first collection launch in spring 2015.

WATCH: We help Marks & Spencer style 4 key looks from their SS14 collection. We love them all especially #3!

A DAY OF PURE FASHION FUN Getting the chance to dabble with new season collections is a favourite hobby of Team MFL, and when the lovely team at Marks & Spencer invited us to assist in styling their spring/summer 2014 collection, we were at the airy Sunbeam Studios in London as fast as our heels could transport us. THE STYLE BRIEF Working alongside three other leading ladies in the fashion industry (Laura Tan, Metro; Emily Johnston, Fashion Foie Gras; Laetitia Wajnapel, Mademoiselle Robot), we spent the day with a room full of Marks & Spencer’s latest drop of on-trend pieces, an entertaining camera crew and an endless supply of delicious goodies to fuel stylish thoughts! Tasked with creating four spring-appropriate looks using key pieces from the collection, we worked our way though rails of clothes and accessories, cherry picking our favourite pieces (it was tough – pretty much everything made it onto our mental wish list) to dress the lovely models. THE LOOKS Putting four headstrong fashion women together in one room, with a brief to let our styling creativity run riot is no mean feat. With different trend preferences and opinions whizzing around in full force, the experience was still a highly enjoyable one, and our differing choices easily melded into four very wearable looks. Result! Channelling a prim-but-preppy look, we put together a cotton shirt with a jacquard mini skirt and a knitted tunic worn as a jumper. Perfect for work or play. Going for femme-gone-gritty style, we paired a sixties-inspired drop waist dress with biker boots and the textured check coat of our dreams! The models pixie crop was the perfect finishing touch! This is was particular favourite amongst the group, as boyfriend jeans are universally flattering. We paired the wardrobe classic with a plain cotton shirt, […]

Jennifer Lopez and her curves wow on American Idol red carpet

The sun is shining, it’s the end of a working week, and Jennifer Lopez is looking as radiant as ever. We are very happy bunnies right now! Jenny from the Block has put a smile on our faces thanks to her appearance at the American Idol XIII Top 10 live performance show in Hollywood; it’s amazing what a good celeb outfit can do for us! She wore a gorgeous pale blue cap sleeve SAFiYAA spring/summer 2014 dress for the occasion, and there isn’t a single thing we don’t love about it. It accentuates her flawless, God-given curves in a sophisticated manner, and the colour just screams “spring!” at us, which is something we are very excited about given the seemingly never-ending winter we experienced. Jen’s messy side swept hair gave the look a more fun and even youthful vibe, and the embellished Jimmy Choo pumps added the perfect finishing touch.

WATCH Miranda Kerr’s debut H&M video!

We told you back in February that Miranda Kerr was announced as the brand spanking new face of H&M (she clearly didn’t let being let go from Mango get her down for too long!) and now it’s time to check out her first ever video ad campaign. And we think it’s pretty amazing! We think that most women will identify with the storyline, which in a nutshell goes like this: Set to the tune of Blondie’s epic Heart of Glass, Miranda’s friend pulls up outside her house in a taxi, but Miranda isn’t quite ready yet. Cue a very stylish montage consisting of Miranda trying on one cute outfit after another – and taking selfies, natch! – before eventually deciding on a pair of black leather shorts and a pale off-the-shoulder top. She sends the final selfie to her friend, she approves, and off they go! Check out the H&M spring/summer 2014 video below and let us know what you think. Do you think she “chose” the best outfit in the end?

Anya Hindmarch Swan Vestas Imperial matchbox clutch: Yay or Nay?

We’re digging’ it because… Who wouldn’t love a fashionable spin on household essentials? After making us drool at the household essentials-gone-haute accessories collection for autumn/winter ’14, a rather covered style from the Anya Hindmarch spring/summer ‘14 collection has landed on our radar. Enter the Swan Vestas Imperial matchbox clutch. With its gold metal framed box style encased in luxe printed python, and grey lizard top and bottom panels, you’d be forgiven for thing it was the Queen Bee of the clutch collective! Tempted to take it home? Read on. Why we’re totally saying yay… Luxe investment: If you’re looking to splash major monies on your next handbag treat, then the Swan Vestas clutch is right there with the best of them. A luxury exterior paired with stunning detail is a winning combination, didn’t you know? Great for accessorising day or night: Now that the evening clutch rule has long been forgotten, add interest to a simple day look with this conversation-starting option, and you’re sure to win a few fashion fans. Easy to style: Given that neutral tones of grey, white and gold are paired together, you won’t struggle to style this clutch with your wider wardrobe. Sometimes, the Anna Dello Russo approach to colour isn’t always the best way. And, erm, maybe nay… Price: Yes, it’s sadly a little (OK, very) steep. *Cough* £1,295 *Cough* Trend-centric appeal: We blame Charlotte Olympia and Sophia Webster for further fueling our love for statement-making (literally) clutch bags. A coveted book cover or phrase is great, but can you sniff a repeat wear? Size: Sadly, a matchbox clutch is going to live up to its name, right? Although it’s bigger than an actual Swan matchbox, you won’t get past squeezing the bare essentials in. If you’re after copious amounts of space when splashing […]

Scarlett Johansson debuts baby bump and vintage engagement ring at Captain America premiere

There are so many things we need to discuss about Scarlett Johansson’s sensational appearance at the Captain America: The Winter Soldier world premiere in Hollywood last night. We’ll get to the gorgeous Armani Prive spring/summer 2009 dress in a bit, but we’d like to talk about the first thing that caught our eye: the gargantuan vintage rock on her engagement finger. We bet it blinded more than a few photographers – have you ever seen anything more unique and intricate? Major brownie points to fiancé Romain Dauriac. The second thing we couldn’t help but notice was ScarJo’s teeny tiny baby bump, and the fact that she already has that pregnant and glowing look about her. Although when has Scarlett Johansson ever not sparkled on a red carpet? We love the fact that she went through the Armani Prive archives and chose an intricate dress we haven’t seen in a while. The outfit choice, golden locks, minimal make-up and bedazzling earrings were all spot on!

See Miley Cyrus in a whole new light for Marc Jacobs’ new ad campaign

We showed you the debut dark and brooding images of Miley Cyrus’s ad campaign for Marc Jacobs’ spring/summer 2014 collection back in January, but the newly released images show the 21-year-old in a whole new light. And we love it! Miley’s make-up is minimal, her styling is understated, her flesh is covered, and there isn’t a single wagging tongue in sight. Marc Jacobs and photographer David Sims should pat themselves on the back for this epic transformation! “We wanted this beach with the girls kind of sulky and broody, and we thought it would be cool if it was Miley with what could be two friends, feeling distant and quite dark,” Marc Jacobs said. “We all just love her and her entire being, her talent, her intelligence, everything,” he said. “There’s nothing I don’t like about her. She is just genuine and very natural.” Whether Miley sticks to this new wardrobe and styling is a different matter, but in the meantime, let’s appreciate the ad campaign images in all their glory while we can. Fausto Puglisi two-tone dress: Yay or Nay?

It’s fabulous because… No one does glamour better than the Italians, (hello, Milan Fashion Week!), and this week’s designer hails from the midst of it all. Synonymous with sexy designs that scream personality, Fausto Puglisi’s creations have found red carpet fashion fans in everyone from Coco Rocha to Lily Collins and Rashida Jones. Given the affection for pastels on the spring/summer ’14 runways was pretty unmissable, we’re diggin’ this two-tone, silhouette-skimming jersey dress for more reasons than one! Cut from the softest jersey, the soft lilac and mint palette and knee-grazing length make this an ideal dress for various occasions. Why were totally saying yay: Perfect for work or play: Wear it to work paired with a well-cut jacket and pumps, and swap for a leather biker and heels for after-work fun. Easy. Great price: Sitting pretty at £282, the price isn’t the heftiest of fees to pay for slither of Italian glam, right? Easy piece for various occasions: Be it date night, a summer wedding guest option or, even a holiday look; this dress promises to be a fit for all. And, erm, maybe nay Unforgiving silhouette: The downside to slipping into a dangerously-clingy dress is its unforgiving nature! Washboard abs and a miniscule waist aren’t everyone’s forte (and shouldn’t be, either), so consider this before investing. Difficult colour to style: A two-tone option can always throw us a little, so the best styling option sees like all black. Boring. Unless you are Anna Dello Russo, of course. One-hit wonder: Given its trend-centric colour palette, you could find yourself pushing this dress to the back of the wardrobe once the summer months pass. Fausto Puglisi two-tone jersey dress, £282, available at LuisaViaRoma.

Katie Holmes rocks Prada coat for Elle UK April

Lupita Nyong’o made us fall in love with Prada all over again thanks to the stunning blue custom dress she wore to the Oscars on Sunday night, and it looks like Katie Holmes is also doing her bit for the Italian label. The 35-year-old actress and yummy mummy is rocking a gorgeous Prada coat from the spring/summer 2014 collection on the cover of Elle UK‘s April issue, making us truly believe that spring has officially sprung! Wahey! Inside the mag, Katie poses in a number of hot pieces from Dior to Givenchy, and talks about everything from Suri to Dawson’s Creek to life experiences and more… “The number one thing is making sure my child feels loved. Jessica Lowndes vs. Allison Williams…Who rocked pink better?

Is pink the new red on the red carpet? Excuse all associated puns, but this year’s Academy Awards threw some unexpected looks our way, and, boy, were we pleased! Two such ladies making it straight to the top of our frock wars list are Jessica Lowndes and Allison Williams, who both took to the red carpet in exquisite pink gowns. And, although their looks aren’t identical, our favourite shade on the spring/summer 2014 rainbow has resulted in a one dress, two girls situ! Thinking pink (sorry) at the 22nd Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards viewing party was Jessica Lowndes, who opted for a bubblegum pink, strapless gown. Accessorising with a pale mint clutch, matching earrings and strappy gold sandals; heavy eye make-up and a glossy up-do completed the look. Catching up with the 90210 actress, however, was Allison Williams, who also wore an exquisite pink Emilia Wickstead dress to the 2014 Vanity Fair Oscars party. Although it was a demure display, the dress featured an open back, contrasting beautifully with the high neck detail. Rounding off the look with large studs and a clutch, side-parted, slicked back hair and a glowing complexion completed the look. So, who wins this frock-off, then? Both ladies turned heads at their respective occasions, but, for us, Allison takes the style crown! There’s something utterly majestic about her modest-yet-sexy effort, don’t you agree? Spotlight on…Lie Sang Bong

WHO: Dubbed the “Korean McQueen,” Lie Sang Bong is one of the most highly regarded fashion houses to hail from Korea. With a twelve-year Parisian tenancy under his belt – having been a firm  fixture on the fashion week schedule there – Mr. Lie decided to mix his flair for beautiful clothes with commercial sense for autumn/winter 2014, with a debut show in New York. WHY: The Seoulite, revered for his dedication to couture-like techniques and breathtaking gowns has taken a plunge on the more wearable side of fall, sending out practically dressed girls on the runway. Playing on the theme of extreme contrasts for next season, Mr. Lie sought inspiration from powerful images of nature’s fury, such as volcanic eruptions, lava spilling into the sea and Yellowstone National Park’s Grand Prismatic Spring. With a winter-proof mindset, Mr. Lie lined the runway in an array of striking molten rock reds and oceanic blues, taking everything from the cosiest of cover ups to exquisite layering of fur, lace and leather in his stride. Standout pieces included a modified houndstooth coat with oversize lapels; a blue lamsbwool coat realised in a deliciously textured ‘tech fabric’ quickly acquired must-have status, and even the designer’s signature gowns made a surprise appearance. On his decision to show in New York for the first time, Mr. Lie said: “My goal is always to design in a way that pays respect to tradition while providing something that is relevant for the present, marrying art and commerce, craftsmanship and innovation. The confident, intelligent women of New York have an innate understanding and appreciation for this balance.” OUR FAVOURITE AUTUMN/WINTER 2014 LOOK: We couldn’t really betray our weak spot for gorgeous dresses with a hit of practicality, so topping our favourite look list is the striking kick-flare dress in […]

Ruined: Runway to High Street looks that were destroyed in the process

Imagine something you hold so close to your heart taken away, replicated a million and one times (substandardly), then force-fed to the masses? Something like this, sadly, happened to the inimitable Isabel Marant. In an article by Fashionista, Marant reflects (read: complains) on the effect of her reigning wedge sneaker being replicated, rather recklessly, by the High Street and other designers. Referring to the rip-offs as “super-ugly,” the designer said: “I don’t wear them as often as I [used to] because I see too [many bad copies] in the street. I’m not saying mine are the most beautiful shoes, but they have a certain [style]. And on the weekends, I’m so happy to have them because I feel so good in them. I don’t want to throw them out.” Sad times for Bobby et Betty, non? After all, she’s the master behind that Parisian cool-girl aesthetic every fashion girl and her mother seek to emulate. And, although she’s still “selling a lot,” the far-reaching consequences of High Street copies is a heavyhearted tale – even for seasoned designers, whom all know the fate of a bestseller. So, as an aid to soothe Madame Marant’s heartache over her beloved leg-lengtheners being cloned by the dozen, we’ve picked out five other runway hits that exploded onto the high street, took over our wardrobes, and left a bad taste in their designer parents’ mouths. Read on, High Street lovers. Slogan tees: We blame the Acne and 3.1 Phillip Lim spring/summer 2013 shows for planting the seed of slogan tee addiction in our minds. After their runway debut, the likes of New Look and ASOS got in on the action, too. The result: more ‘meh’ than look-at-me Leopard print: Oh, this is a fine animal-print line to tread. Running the gamut from doable to […]

Paris Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Gareth Pugh, H&M, Vionnet & more

Day 2 of Paris Fashion Week brought us some versatile sartorial new-season delights from some of the fashion big guns such as Gareth Pugh, H&M, Alexis Mabille, Vionnet and Dries van Noten, among others. GARETH PUGH AW14  We think Gareth Pugh gets the award for most talked-about and most theatrical show, as he sent some of his models down the runway with wind-up keys on their backs making them look like a cross between wall-clocks and wind-up dolls. If they weren’t walking around with heavy machinery on their backs, they had very tall – and probably very hard to maneuver in – hats on their heads. Although there were many distractions on the Gareth Pugh autumn/winter 2014 runway, we did manage to pay attention to the clothes too, and discovered that the collection went in yet another different direction to the one we saw last season; yet it was pretty similar in that signature Gareth Pugh only-something-Lady-Gaga-would-wear aesthetic. Reflective, shiny materials juxtaposed with an abundance of plastic and over-the-top fluffy fur, exaggerated silhouettes and so much more. H&M AW14  Paris Fashion Week isn’t just about the big designers, as H&M came out to play by presenting its autumn/winter 2014 collection to a star-studded front row (Miranda Kerr, – the new face of the brand –Jessica Alba and Beyonce’s little sis, Solange Knowles, were all in attendance) at the Grand Palais, otherwise known as the home of the highly anticipated Chanel shows. We saw one of the most wearable and covetable collections hit the runway, with everything from sparkly sequin sweater dresses to comfy cosy cashmere rollneck jumpers all making an appearance. The colour palette was bright and bold to make up for the extreme wintry pieces (the bright orange turtle neck jumper is an MFL fave!), and we predict everyone […]

Lily Allen bursts onto NME Awards red carpet in Roksanda Ilincic

What big award show is nicely nestled between the BRITs and the Oscars? Why, that would be the NME Awards which took place at the Brixton Academy in London last night. Lily Allen pretty much stole the show on the red carpet last night, opting to go bright and bold in a cute Roksanda Ilincic flare dress from the designer’s spring/summer 2014 collection. Lily has been on board the colour train recently, choosing an equally colourful ensemble for the BRITs, and we have to say that we are loving it. The white Christian Louboutin pumps, multicoloured nails and quirky up-do topped her look off perfectly. We’re kind of glad Lily Allen went back on her word to never return to the music industry… we wouldn’t have seen her rock this Roksanda Ilincic dress while accepting her Best Solo Artist award, otherwise. Welcome back, Lills!

Pura López Dunia mules: Yay or Nay

From sexed-up slit detail versions at Altuzarra, to bejewelled heels at Tibi; the once brushed-off-as-ugly mule is back with a shoe ousting vengeance for spring/summer ‘14. Considering runway heavyweights have given their nod of approval; expect to be slipping into a pair at some point this summer. And, to take the edge off the task of securing the perfect pair, we’ve only gone and done the leg work (pun intended). Sneaking their way into our new season wardrobe are the Dunia mules by Spanish shoe designer, Pura López (£170). Featuring a super-high, spindly heel and crafted in super-soft suede; these black beauties boast look-at-me perforated detail and promise to pretty much work with everything in your wardrobe. But, a trend being what some may call a ‘passing fad’ comes with pros and cons, so, below is a little pre-purchase inspo to help get you in (or out) of these sky-high stunners. You’re welcome  Yay Classic colour: You can’t beat the transitional appeal of a black heel. Ever. Day-to-night shoe: Pair with smart tailoring for day, before slipping over a pencil skirt and silk cami for night. Shoe stash under work desk, be gone! Great price: At £170, the Dunia mules promise not to leave you financially crippled, but fashionably oh-so-in-the-know. Win-win!  Nay Trend-centric: Did someone say ‘passing fad?’ Well, given it was one of the biggest shoe trends to roll off the runway – having done the rounds on the fashion month street style circuit, too – don’t expect the hype to die down anytime soon. Suede: As much as we love a sexy shoe in buttery soft suede, the prospect of puddle-hopping (we’re talking about Blighty, after all) in our beloved suedes leaves us feeling soggy-footed and, well, just plain unhappy. Somewhat impractical: We totally get the practical benefits of […]

Richard Nicoll appointed Jack Wills creative director!

You might think that Richard Nicoll has enough on his plate with his eponymous label as it is, but that hasn’t stopped the designer from adding to his CV and becoming the new creative director of Jack Wills! The London Fashion Week designer and Central Saint Martins graduate will join the British label on a part time basis, with his debut collection rolling out in the spring next year. “Richard’s arrival shows how far Jack Wills has come – and indicates our ambition as we grow further,” said Wendy Becker, CEO of Jack Wills. “His collections have global appeal, but he is a British designer at heart and will lead the creative direction of our brand into its next important phase. “His aesthetic and talent in designing for both men and women will be a great match for our future.” If his collaborations with Topshop and Fred Perry and of course his latest autumn/winter 2014 collection (above) which he debuted at London Fashion Week – are anything to go by, we predict this Jack Wills line will fly off the shelves! We can’t wait to see what he comes up with! [Telegraph]

Atlanta de Cadenet vs. Allison Williams…Who wore Valentino better?

Another week, another dress double-up. And don’t we just love to weigh in on a one dress, two girls kinda situation! This week, making us look twice (and hard) is DJ and model, Atlanta De Cadenet, and Girls star Allison Williams (yes, Marnie). Both ladies slipped into a stunning Valentino autumn/winter 2013 dress and, it’s safe to say, we were equally bowled over. Giving the thigh-grazing white number its first outing was Allison, who took to the red carpet at the 2013 MTV Music Awards looking resplendent. Pairing the embellished lace dress with simple black Louboutin pumps, enviable pins, strong eyes and a softly sweeping up-do, that beaming smile sealed the deal. But then, chasing Allison to the winning post was Atlanta de Cadenet, who sat pretty front row at the Valentino spring/summer 2014 show in Paris wearing the same dress. The super-hip daughter of Amanda de Cadenet gave us a punch of colour to go with the angelic white dress in the form of a crimson lip and killer red, strappy Valentino pumps. A glowing complexion, loosely tied back hair and box clutch completed the look. But, who wins in the style stakes this week? We’re going to ditch the prim and proper approach with a Valentino dress and go with Atlanta on this one. One thing a white dress desperately needs is a dash of eye-opening colour, and that Atlanta certainly did well. Although she looks great, Allison’s look just came off a little too vanilla for our liking. What are you thoughts? Whose look wins for you? [Images: Zimbio]

Stella McCartney Surrealist mini skirt: Yay or Nay?

If you’re anything like us, you’ll have grumpily slipped into yet another pair of jeans this morning. Oh, how we long for you, sunny spring! Strictly speaking, we’re still on the other side of holiday-inspired cocktails and barely-there dressing, but what’s a girl to do if not dream? And, making us dream this a.m. is the stunning Surrealist embellished mini skirt from Stella McCartney (£865). Leaving us pining for enviably tanned (and toned) pins, this silk and cotton-blend number packs an artistic punch, featuring crystal and bead Surrealist motifs. Making for an exciting addition to your wardrobe from the designer who fulfills every woman’s desire to dress like the boys – but with feminine flair – are you tempted to give in and snap up some Stella M goodness? Below, we help you rationalise the fashion binge… Yay Easy party look: This skirt easily removes the need for a party dress. Style with a casual tee, heels and a clutch, and you’re good to go! Great for the holiday wardrobe: Late night parties on the beach? This skirt ticks all the right boxes, without being an overpowering, overly-decadent (and overheating) addition to your suitcase. Day-to-night investment: Dashing to an after work event, or cocktails? Pair this skirt with a cosy grey knit and ankle boots by day, before switching it up for some evening glamour (see easy party look above). Nay Price: Erm, did we say this piece of art cashes in at £865? Yes, that’s just over one months’ rent, in case you were wondering. Colour: White: not the most practical of shades, so you’ll need to hatch up a befriend-the-dry cleaner plan before buying. Delicate: Given the delicate motifs are what make this mini skirt masterpiece just that, they’re also prone to damage. If you’re planning on dancing […]

New York Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Jenny Packham, Vera Wang, Proenza Schouler & more

New York Fashion Week has well and truly got us geared up for London Fashion Week which kicks off tomorrow! The last of the shows – from Michael Kors to Oscar de la Renta to Jenny Packham, and more – certainly didn’t let us down, as we were met with everything from red carpet Oscar-worthy ensembles to essential winter cover-ups to all else in-between. Kate Middleton’s Jenny Packham look at the National Portrait Gallery was an exellent reminder of how wow-worthy the designer’s pieces can be – a thought which was only reiterated when we saw the autumn/winter 2014 collection float down the runway. Although the collection was reportedly inspired by Bianca Jagger, there were sartorial influences dating as far back as the 1930s in the collection; the glittering gold dress was a particular favourite of ours, and one which we predict might appear on an awards season red carpet this year. Vera Wang, who has dressed a number of our fave A-listers including the most recent celeb bride Kaley Cuoco who went against the grain and opted for a pink wedding down, went for romance – but not as we know it. Dark romance was the theme for the designer’s autumn/winter 2014 collection, with lots of black and charcoal coloured pieces making their debut on the Big Apple catwalk. There was also an abundance of tartan – a definite AW14 trend we need to look out for over the next few weeks! Although Blake Lively and Freida Pinto were among the famous faces who sat on the front row wearing some very feminine and floral Michael Kors spring/summer 2014 pieces, the designer’s latest collection had a hint of androgyny about it. Rich, luxe fabrics were juxtaposed with casual cool tailoring, offering us a very covetable autumn/winter collection that we’ll […]

Make-up to Make Your Smile Shine!

Have you just had your teeth whitened and want to show your new smile off a bit? Here’s how you can maximise your smile with these fab make-up tips! We’ve all seen the terrible trends of jewel decorated teeth and gold grills but 2014 will see our pearly whites shown off in a different way. Teeth whitening has been around for a long time now but do you really know how to do your make-up in order to make your smile stand out? Style yourself so your make-up is en-vogue and your newly whitened teeth shine with these gorgeously easy tips: Lips Make-up in 2014 is set to really maximise those luscious lips of yours. Michael Kors’ S/S 2014 saw soft berry lips perk up minimal makeup with a girly feminine edge. Take inspiration from this and team with a loose plat for a laidback spring makeover. Or if you are feeling brave why not go orange? Orange is the lipstick shade of the season! It is a favourite with DKNY, Nanette Lepore and Christian Siriano. Plus when blotted it will fit perfectly with the matt effect that has been popular recently. If you are a fan of a classic red lip then show off the effects of your teeth whitening process with red velvet. Glossy is out and velvety-matte finishes are in. Red velvet gives a modern and sophisticated twist on a classic make-up style staple. M.A.C. lipsticks are a great option for this. Here’s a cheeky tip: Rub Vaseline on your teeth before you apply your lipstick. This will keep you from smudging lipstick and marking your teeth, keeping your smile blemish free! Skin White teeth will really pop next to glowing bronzed skin so take inspiration from Philip Lim and give your skin a radiance with a […]

Blake Lively and Freida Pinto kill it on Michael Kors AW14 FROW

We think the Michael Kors autumn/winter 2014 front row might have been one of the most fashionable – and high profile – ones for the whole of New York Fashion Week. Blake Lively rocked up to the Michael Kors show in the designer’s spring/summer 2014 threads, which consisted of a smart dark blue short-sleeved jacket, a tan belt and a floral pencil skirt with a sexy slit in the front. Well, when you’ve got pins as perfect as Blake, it would be rude not to show them off, right? Her hair, as usual, was flawlessly shiny and tumbling over her shoulders in that effortless Blake Lively way/Mrs Ryan Reynolds way. We’re not jealous at all, honestly… Elsewhere on the front row was Freida Pinto, who also turned heads in her floral MK ensemble. Although her look was elegant, feminine and somewhat conservative, she added a little bit of sexiness thanks to the cut-out peek-a-boo detailing at the top. The oversized clutch was also a nice touch, especially as it complemented her shoes perfectly. Two gorgeous ladies; we can’t wait to see them step out in the designer’s new-season pieces!

Dubai to host Chanel’s next Cruise collection

Where is Karl Lagerfeld taking Chanel for the next Cruise collection? Dubai, of course! Steep vs. Cheap: Houndstooth-print coat

Spy the snowstorm this morning? Rather, did you survive it? Well, given spring hasn’t fully sprung, yet, we’re still hanging onto our toasty, winter-warmer essentials. Yes, that involves a rather trusty and chill-proof coat – but one that doesn’t compromise on style in the slightest. If you’ve been searching for that winning combination, then look no further than our outerwear finds for this week’s Steep vs. Cheap. Coming in at the pricey end is the Mosley coat by alice + olivia (£250). We’re totally digging the houndstooth print (very Sixties), and can’t quite get over the snug factor! The cocoon cut feels perfect for now, while the look-at-me print is strong yet classic. Not got the extra cash to burn? Why worry, when high street saviour, Mango, is at the rescue? We’ve tracked down an equally modish version of the houndstooth-print coat in a delish wool-blend, for a rather modest price tag. Cashing in at £59.99, you’ll have enough left over for a second splurge. Just don’t blame us. So, which one will it be? Shop both coats below. Steep: alice + olivia Mosley long oversize cocoon coat, £250, available at Oxygen Boutique. Cheap: Houndstooth wool-blend oversize coat, £59.99, available at Mango.

Rita Ora feels “like a bad b*tch” on DKNY front row

Rita Ora may have been a bag of nerves before walking down the DKNY spring/summer 2014 runway last season, but the singer had a far more comfortable view this time around, as she joined Victoria Justice and other celeb pals on the front row of the autumn/winter 2014 show instead. Even though she wasn’t walking down the runway,Rita still commanded a lot of attention in her getup, opting to wear a fun and flirty tartan dress, which she toughened up with a biker jacket with a very daring message on the back (FYI it says “when I wear DKNY I feel like a bad b*tch”) flung over her shoulders and some seriously sexy strappy black heels. Matching red polish on her toes and bold red lippie completed her provocative look! Definitely one of our favourite front row spottings on the New York Fashion Week front row so far; what do you guys think?

New York Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Victoria Beckham, DKNY, Alexander Wang & more

It was a busy weekend in the Big Apple, as a host of designers including Victoria Beckham, DKNY, Alexander Wang, Prabal Gurung, Monique Lhuilier and Diane von Furstenberg presented their autumn/winter 2014 offerings. After we got over the excitement of seeing the entire Beckham brood posing for selfies on the front row, we composed ourselves and finally sat down to analyse what we saw on the victoria Beckham AW14 runway. And we have nothing but good things to say about VB’s latest efforts. A lot more feminine than her spring/summer 2014 collection, this season was all about balance, along with her signature simplicity, distinctive looks, expert tailoring and an unassuming colour palette. VB’s signature love of monochrome was once again apparent, with little infusions of colour creeping their way in, too. Things got very real over at DKNY in so many senses of the word; the stars of the catwalk show were real New Yorkers who walked alongside some of our catwalk faves, which echoed the general aesthetic of the collection, which felt like a more updated and trendier version of what the residence of NYC are already wearing on the streets. The sleek combovers dominated the Alexander Wang show; it took us a while to get over seeing Karlie Kloss and ko (sorry, co) in this very boyish light, but once the initial shock was over we got to appreciate the simplicity of the make up (Miley Cyrus inspired bleached brows and all) as well as the utilitarian ensembles. We loved the mesh jumpers and jumper dresses, which we are hoping are going to be a major trend this season! Diane von Furstenberg put on one heck of a show, and we would expect nothing less from a designer celebrating her 40th anniversary! In typical retrospective fashion, DVF went […]

Harrods and British Airways team up for catwalk shows in the sky

Remember when Karl Lagerfeld transformed the Grand Palais into an Air Chanel plane for the much talked about spring/summer 2012 Haute Couture show? Well it looks like Kaiser Karl was once again ahead of the times, as catwalks shows in the sky are now actually going to be a thing! Harrods has teamed up with British Airways to make this happen, and will be using the A380 route from London to Johannesburg  for the very fashionable journey. “Harrods is delighted to have partnered with British Airways, bringing together two iconic British brands, to create a spectacular event,” said Michael Ward, a spokesperson for Harrods. “Celebrating the exceptional design of the A380, we were able to present the talent and creativity of our most respected British fashion designers, in a unique experience at 30,000ft.” That does sound terribly exciting – especially as the debut flight reportedly featured looks from Victoria Beckham to to Matthew Williamson to Stella McCartney, but don’t flock to your nearest travel agent to book your ticket just yet, as the flights are currently press-only. Still, this might be available to the public in the near future tool so cross your fingers and watch this space! [Vogue] [Image]

Kenzo belted chunky-knit coat: Yay or Nay?

A coat? In spring? That’s what you’re thinking, right? No, we’ve not completely lost our style marbles, but one look at the 50 shades of dull sky and you’ll get our drift. As much as we’re dreaming of willowy blouses, thigh-grazing minis and the softest of pastel hues to take us into spring, we can’t resist good-looking outerwear for when the weather can’t make up its mind. Enter the colour-pop cover up from Kenzo (£356): a riot of colour and cosy, chill-proof chunky-knit against a salt and pepper backdrop. Yum. But, a coat so crazy comes with reservations, so we’re taking a moment to weigh up this Kenzo beauty’s purchasing potential below… Yay Alternative cover-up: If you’re done with drab coats, let this colour daubed version take you through the final stretch of winter – stylishly, of course! Great price: Given you’re bagging Kenzo for a pretty charming sum at our favourite online designer outlet, you’ll automatically land the bragging rights, much to the envy of all your friends. Day-to-night coat: Thanks to its belted waist and sleeve detail, why not take on the coatdress trend with this Kenzo number? It’s perfect for after-work drinks in the chill. Nay Statement piece: As much as we love it for the look-at-me detail, it could also be the reason this buy ends up in the one-wear-then-despair pile. No hood: Practicality isn’t completely lost on fashion, which is why we wish this coat had a hood for those frizz-inducing drizzly days. See ya, sleek hair! Difficult to style: Brights are often difficult to pair with your wider wardrobe and, unless you’re addicted to bright colours and big detail, this coat could prove just that. Think hard before pulling the plastic out. Kenzo belted wool-blend felt & chunky-knit coat, £356, available at The Outnet.

Topshop flagship store heading to New York’s Fifth Avenue

New York has beaten London to the most fashionable city in the world title (sob, sniff) but the one thing we have got that the Big Apple hasn’t is a gargantuan Topshop flagship. Until now! Topshop tycoon Sir Philip Green is bringing the high street store to New York’s Fifth Avenue – and it’ll be the second biggest Topshop store in the world, with only the flagship on London’s Regent Street beating it to the top spot. Not only will Topshop be heading to Fifth Avenue later this year, but we can also expect stores to open in San Diego, Houston, Atlanta and Washington by spring 2015. Oh and the websites are going to be bigger and better than ever, too! “I am very excited about Fifth Avenue, having looked for a location there for many years, and I believe this corner is both hugely prominent and perfectly located for our brands,” Sir Philip Green said. “I am also delighted to be entering new markets for the first time in the other great cities. “In addition to our flagship stores expansion, we are continually developing our topshop.com and topman.com sites, and our on-going partnership with Nordstrom continues to develop.” Well, there you have it. If you’re planning on moving to America, you might not have to miss out on shopping in your favourite high street store after all! [Express]

Steep vs. Cheap: Printed Trousers

Hey spring, we see you! Well, sort of. Save for the recent blustery climes, we’ve long been dreaming up our new season wardrobes and, nothing quite says “See ya, winter” like a pair of print-splashed trousers. Teasing us with easy-on-the-eye prints this week are the Steep vs. Cheap floral-print bottoms. Whether you’re looking to go all-out, or to curb your spending habit, this week’s options are guaranteed to make you part with that hard-earned cash. Did someone say investment? Yep. If investment is your done thing, then look no further than Diane von Furstenberg’s luxe Benet Two silk trousers (£268). We’re wearing ours with a louche white tank and spring-perfect flats. Seeing red (literally) when spying the Steep version? Julien Macdonald and other hot designers auction scarves for Save the Children!

Nine hot designers have created scarves inspired by their own childhood memories to be auctioned off for Save the Children later this month. Scarves have not only dominated the latest spring/summer 2014 catwalks, but they’re a staple part of every woman’s wardrobe season after season. Not only are they great for keeping our necks warm, but they also are a godsend when it comes to adding a splash of print or colour to an otherwise boring outfit. So, if you want to get your hands on a scarf created by some of the hottest designers from Julien Macdonald to Marc McGreevy and many more, then now’s your chance, as they are going under the hammer with 100% of the profits going Save the Children! “Being approached to create a bold scarf print for Save the Children was an honour,” Julien said. “I immediately wanted it to be fun and colourful! Drawing from the classic childlike inspiration of a children’s party, the scarf encompasses the energetic and lively feel that this project portrays, and I had a lot of fun producing it!” It wouldn’t be a Julien Macdonald creation if it didn’t have his signature love of colour and sparkle on it; he definitely hasn’t let us down. All nine of the scarves were donated by Luxury accessories label Age of Reason for the designers to work their magic on. The auction will launch on eBay on Thursday 13th February and will close 10 days later on Sunday 23rd February. Happy bidding!

Giorgio Armani hosts Au Jour le Jour during Milan Fashion Week

Giorgio Armani is a Milan Fashion Week saint! In a bid to help save Milan Fashion Week, which isn’t doing as well as it should be, the designer has pledged to give one up-and-comer per season the chance to showcase their collection at his theatre. This season, the lucky label is Au Jour le Jour! “I like the way in which today’s young designers seek to establish themselves, in using every kind of channel,” Giorgio Armani said. “I admire resourcefulness and decided to support it. I hope that my support is a good omen.” Mirko Fontana and Diego Marquez will show their Au Jour le Jour autumn/winter 2014 collection on February 22nd at Armani’s Milan Theatre; we can’t wait to see what the duo come up with! Givenchy studded lace oxfords: Yay or Nay?

With spring slowly creeping upon us, lusting after somewhat impractical shoes is a given. And, this week we’re digging these lush Givenchy studded lace oxfords (£904). Not quite up there with our wear-everyday foot gear just yet, but nevertheless, gorgeous enough to gawk at! Bringing you well and truly out of winter’s dull grip, the striking effect of polished silver studs against angelic white lace and a solid wooden sole gives these Givenchy oxfords immediate buy-me-now appeal, but will you take the plunge? Here’s a little helping hand if you’re stuck on parting with the pounds… Yay Spring-perfect: A great option if you’re looking to update your new season wardrobe by way of statement-making shoes, without committing to a trend. Flats: Well, traipsing around in heels all day isn’t the most foot-friendly of options. Your feet will be utterly grateful for the style and comfort factor rolled into one! Boy-meets-girls: The ever-present androgynous trend shows no sign of waning, and we’re certainly not complaining. These Givenchy oxfords are the perfect mid-way fix for girls who love boyish style. Nay Colour: White. Need we say more? Price: Sitting smug at £904, you’ll have pretty feet, post-purchase. Shame the same can’t be said for your finances… Impractical option: Although they come with a stiff mesh lining to help maintain the shape, lace-enveloped shoes were never a good idea for protecting your feet. Suddenly, puddles and unpredictable downpours will become your worst enemies. Givenchy studded lace oxfords, £904, available at My Theresa.

Rihanna wows in 20-year-old Chanel suit on Good Morning America

Well doesn’t Rihanna scrub up well? Rihanna is a versatile artist and dresser, and although we don’t have a problem with the majority of her racy costumes, we love it when she surprises us and goes for something on the chic and elegant scale too. And nothing screams chic and lady-like better than vintage Chanel, right? The Bajan singer made a guest appearance on Good Morning America to promote her work with MAC, and wore a bright coral skirt suit from the Chanel spring/summer 1994 (no, not a typo – this suit really is 20 years old!) collection for the occasion. Her outfit proved what we already knew, and that’s that the French fashion House really does make timeless creations! Rihanna completed her chic appearance by wearing some gorgeous Manolo Blahnik pumps, wearing her hair sleek and straight, and opting for minimal make-up save for a bold red lip. One of our favourite Ri Ri looks in months; what say you? [Image]

Kate Hudson’s boys join her in new Ann Taylor ad campaign

We didn’t think anything was going to top Kate Hudson’s super-sparkly Christmas ad campaign for Ann Taylor, but we think the latest spring/summer 2014 offering might have just done it. While the actress does command a lot of attention whenever the camera is on her, she isn’t the only star of the ads as her two adorable sons Ryder and Bing join her in front of the camera. Could they be one of the most photogenic mother and son combos in Hollywood? We think so! Kate Hudson showcases some of her favourite pieces from the new collection in the new ad campaign images, but also wanted to show the world what it’s like balancing her work with being a mum; something we bet her own famous mother Goldie Hawn did quite well! “It really captures my life as a working mom and how we all balance those parts of our lives,” Kate said. That’s certainly the message we got from the ad campaign; if only all working mums could look so polished and perfect in the office! [NY Daily News]
