You’ll also know that the best places to shop for the latest fashion trends are some of the biggest, most beautiful and most fashionable cities of the world. Whether you’re a fan of high end fashion and designer couture or you love the thought of pounding the flea markets hunting for some marvellous vintage bargains nothing beats a trip to a city renowned for its fantastic shops, boutiques and markets. If you’re thinking of taking a short mini break away to indulge your love of shopping, here is a list of some of the best places you can go to shop until you drop: Paris, France You only need to see the words Chanel, Louis Vuitton, or Dior to know that Paris is an utterly chic shopping destination for any true fashionista. Traditionally the city was renowned for the Champs-Elysées, however, this has gone a bit too mainstream for anyone looking for that unique Parisian experience. You could try the ever-glamorous Avenue Montaigne and the streets of Saint-Germain which are still home to well-known designers. But, to do shopping in true Parisian style the secret is to slow down and make it into an experience. In Paris, fashion is more than a look, it is a lifestyle. Try whimsical concept store Merci which stocks designs by Stella McCartney and Yves St Laurent, often with some large discounts. Colette offers reduced prices on designer goods too. To take in some of the city’s stunning department stores, there’s Le Bon Marché, with its wondrous section of gourmet food and the vast beauty department of Printemps, which includes fashion, lifestyle and marvellous accessories, as well as an exclusive line by Christian Dior this year. Is Suki Waterhouse making her Victoria’s Secret debut this year?

As this year’s Victoria’s Secret Show will be held in London for the first time ever, it wouldn’t surprise us to find one or two brand new British VS models on the catwalk. So, when we heard the rumours tha top Burberry model Suki Waterhouse might make her Victoria’s Secret debut this year, we certainly didn’t dispute them. The rumours were sparked when Suki posted a picture of herself on Instagram wearing super-sparkly lingerie and a giant peacock headdress not hugely dissimilar to those worn on the Victoria’s Secret catwalk. In true VS fashion though, the models taking part in the annual show won’t actually be revealed until the very last minute – but we don’t have very long to wait to find out the truth. In other related news, it doesn’t look like Cara Delevingne will be walking in the show as it seems to clash with the Chanel Metiers d’Art show in Salzburg, so Suki Waterhouse would be the perfect British model replacement. We would love to see Suki walk in the show… what say you? [Harper’s Bazaar]

5 of our favourite key Autumn 2014 trends

If the end of another summer is leaving you blue, then take a look at the upcoming fashion trends for autumn 2014 and pick yourself up with some seasonal retail therapy. Oversized Scarves: No autumn/winter wardrobe is complete without a scarf and this year, it’s all about oversized wraps and wearable blankets. Bright and bold patterns in woollen knits and lightweight, romantic silks graced the catwalks of Burberry Prorsum, Vivienne Westwood and Issa this year. But if you’re looking for something a little more sedate that’s suitable for day-to-day wear then Winser London offer two elegant, oversized yet manageable scarves that are perfect for softening the structured lines of a trouser suit – another of this season’s key trends – or layering up over dresses and casual weekend clothes. 1960’s Throwback: Every year the world’s leading designers pay homage to a bygone era and this season, those classic asymmetric shapes, bold prints and short hemlines of the 1960’s were favoured in the Valentino, Gucci and Luis Vuitton collections. To give your wardrobe a classic nod to the 1960’s, pair cropped trousers, denims or an A-line skirt with a polo-neck jumper. Once again, Winser London have got this trend spot on with a selection of polo-necks in five warm, autumnal colours that flatter any skin tone and which are ideal for professional or cosy, casual wear. Embroidery and Embellishment If you’re looking for a show-stopping dress for an event this autumn, then delicate materials in rich tones that are beautifully embellished or embroidered are where it’s at. Oscar de la Renta, Alberta Ferretti, Valentino and Roberto Cavalli all included sensational, sheer and embroidered gowns in their autumn 2014 catwalk collections. Although many high-street retailers will be adopting this trend, Winser London have applied beautiful embroidery to a delicately tailored dress for […]

Jennifer Lawrence to co-host 2015 Met Gala alongside Anna Wintour

Jennifer Lawrence is keen to put the last few weeks behind her, and we think that agreeing to co-host the 2015 Met Gala is going to be a great step in the right direction. J-Law will be joining Chinese actress Gong Li, Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, businesswoman Wendi Deng Murdoch, and Anna Wintour in hosting the event, which this year will be celebrating the opening of the exhibit entitled Chinese Whispers: Tales of the East in Art, Film, and Fashion. As the title suggests, the exhibit will feature over 100 pieces inspired by China, with the likes of Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, Roberto Cavalli, Peter Dundas for Emilio Pucci, Tom Ford for Yves Saint Laurent, John Galliano for Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, Ralph Lauren, Vivienne Westwood and Jason Wu among the many designers taking part. Next year’s Met Gala will take place on May 4th, with the exhibit being held at both the Anna Wintour Costume Center and the Department of Asian Art at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. Five of the best (affordable) luxury holidays for stylish fashionistas

If you’re after a luxury holiday to help you relax and unwind but don’t fancy spending all of your hard earned money on flights and accommodation (that you would rather spend on new-season piece when they finally hit the shelves!) then read on. We have five of the best super-stylish and super-affordable luxury holiday suggestions for you; the hardest part will be narrowing them down and actually picking one to go on. Good luck! ITALY Where to shop? You don’t need us to tell you that it’s all about Italian fashion! Milan and Florence are two of the nicest places to shop as you’ll be getting some of the finest fashions while taking in the gorgeous scenery and atmosphere at the same time too. Your first port of call should be the Quadrilatero d’Oro (“rectangle of gold) as that’s where you’ll find all your big name designer threads from Fendi to Roberto Cavalli among others. You’ll be surprised how popular outlet stores are with the locals, and we urge you to do the same. Who wants to pay full price for Prada when you can get the real deal at a fraction of the price? We’d recommend the outlets around corso Vittorio Emanuele II and Il Salvagente (which translates as “the lifesaver” – although if we had our way we would rename it “the money saver”!). Where to stay? There aren’t many places you won’t be happy with in Milan, but the Palazzo Novara is pretty high on our list of recommendations for you. The perfect place to stay if you’re going on a big family holiday, as it sleeps up to eight people and is close to all the picturesque Italian lakes. If Florence is more your thing though, then the Palazzo Bartolo is the one for you – […]

Kristen Stewart covers Elle US September, explains why she never smiles

Kristen Stewart has been hitting the headlines lately for her rumoured relationship with Jennifer Lawrence’s recent ex Nicholas Hoult (it might have something to do with them starring in a film together – you know how fast that rumour mill turns!) but that’s not why we’re talking about her today. K-Stew has only gone and bagged herself a September cover – the Elle US September cover to be exact. What do you guys think? Whoever thought up the concept for the photoshoot must have been a fan of the Karl Lagerfeld/Chanel supermarket scene during Paris Fashion Week, as Kristen’s took place at the Fields Market in West Hills, California. As well as posing in front of some canned goods and produce, Kristen opened up about that pipe smoking pic, why she never smiles for photos, and why she doesn’t really have a career plan… “Never at any point have I sat down and plotted how I should proceed from here on,” she said. “As soon as you start thinking about your career as a trajectory – like, as if you’re going to miss out on some wave or momentum – then you’re never doing anything for yourself anyway. “Then you’re truly, actually, specifically working for the public. You’re turning yourself into a bag of chips.” Interesting. You can read the rest of Kristen’s interview and see more non smiling pics in the Elle US September issue when it hits newsstands.

Lady Gaga, Penelope Cruz and Linda Evangelista get their own Harper’s Bazaar US September cover

The all-important September issue is already exciting enough with just one cover star; there are no words to describe how powerful the Harper’s Bazaar US September 2014 issue is, as it has not one or even two, but three gorgeous ladies posing for the front cover in their own individual photo. And those ladies are, in no particular order as they’re all pretty fabulous: Lady Gaga, Penelope Cruz and Linda Evangelista. Well played, HB! The ladies were selected by Harper’s Bazaar global fashion director Carine Roitfeld for being “iconic women” and were each photographed by Sebastian Faena. We don’t think we can cope with this much fabulousness all at once! Although each of the ladies have their own interviews and editorials, it was Lady Gaga’s interview with the legendary Mr Karl Lagerfeld that grabbed our attention. Here’s what she had to tell Kaiser Karl about her next “fashion trip”… “I’ve been recently enjoying looking far and wide for the best vintage fashion I can find. Clothing with a story, a past,” she began. “Heavy fabrics, jewels, veils. My latest trip is feeling a connection to all women throughout history through fashion. “I love wearing clothes knowing that I’m carrying the spirit of previous fashionistas, and living out more of their fantasies, and my own. I believe clothes carry the soul of the designer and the person wearing them forever, so I look for clothes with a soul. Perhaps it’s something only I can see. But I know it’s real.” Clothes with a soul, eh? That sounds like Chanel all over, if you ask us! The rest of the interview is pretty special too, as Karl and Lady G discuss their pampered pets (his adorable kitty Choupette and her equally gorgeous French bulldog Asia who makes an appearance on the front […]

Why being a Kardashian isn’t good for your career – by Kendall Jenner

The Kardashian family have a lot of friends in high places and can no doubt pull a few strings here and there to get a friend or family member into that supper exclusive club, make them top of the Birkin waiting list or go backstage at that sold out concert. But one thing being a Kardashian isn’t good for, apparently, is getting you onto the catwalk. Kendall Jenner, who is making a name for herself in the modelling industry thanks to her never-ending legs and stunning good looks, has said that being part of one of America’s most famous families has been a bit of a hindrance as no one wanted to take her seriously as a model. “People think that this success just came to me. But it didn’t,” Kendall said. “What I have has almost worked against me. I had to work even harder to get where I wanted because people didn’t take me seriously as a model because of the TV show. “I went on castings and some people weren’t feeling me because of my name. But it was great when people didn’t recognise me. I was like, ‘Thank you. Please don’t recognise me.’” And to make sure that no one recognised her after getting the modelling gig, Kendall ensured that Kim Kardashian and the rest of her famous sisters stayed at home and out of the front rows… “Kim was invited to a lot of the shows that I was in,” she continued. “She called me before and was like, ‘Hey, I was invited to the show, I just wanted to let you know. Do you want me to come?’ and I was like, ‘No.’” Well, there you have it. We think Kendall’s done pretty well for herself this past year alone (she’s walked in numerous […]

Thanks, Cara! 5 Alternative wedding looks inspired by Queen Delevingne

She may be a blue-blooded beauty hailing from the upper echelons of high society, but there’s no taming Cara Delevingne’s wild side – not even on sister Poppy’s wedding day! The British runway queen looked every inch the beautiful bridesmaid for her sister’s big day a few weeks back, donning a virginal white Chanel dress; but she still managed to break free from the clichéd bride brigade and put her own stamp on the look. And it’s Cara’s fashion rule-breaking spirit that has inspired our round-up of alternative wedding looks to sport at your next guest invite. Even though her outfit was a wispy affair, Cara’s scraped back hair, heavily kohled eyes and lack of accessories brought a grittier edge to this pretty look. Keep the base (dress) ultra-feminine, but go for specific detail – be it the makeup, hair or embellishment – that sets your look apart. Click below to shop our round-up of pretty-but-gritty wedding party dresses, and put your own stamp on them, Cara-style! 1. Adam Lippes crepe and pleated chiffon dress, £1,065, available at Net-a-Porter: Although pretty on the outset, this pleated dress begs to be styled with edge. Add black, statement ankle-strap heels or a blingin’ ear cuff to take it to the next level. 2. Lava tunic dress by TFNC, £32, available ar Topshop: We’re diggin’ the sleeve detail on this dress. How about a strong lip and matching lace veil, à la Beyoncé at the Met Gala? 3. Paul & Joe Frivole printed silk-blend gauze dress, £985, available at Net-a-Porter: The floral print is the winning factor with this dress – we’d add nothing else to enhance it. 4. Drop waist beaded mini dress, £399, available at Karen Millen: Statement makers will love this graphic number, to shake things up at the next ‘I do’ they witness. Just add […]

Freida Pinto stuns in Oscar de la Renta on Cannes Film Festival red carpet

Red carpets were being rolled out left, right and centre over the weekend. From the Cannes Film Festival in, well, Cannes, to the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas to the BAFTA TV Awards right here in London, celebs from all over the world were getting glammed up, ready for their close-up. Despite all the different occasions happening over the weekend, we were once again enamoured by an A-lister’s look at the Cannes Film Festival… and that A-lister is none other than Freida Pinto. Freida Pinto really does take the “go big or go home” dress code of Cannes very seriously, as we always find ourselves in awe of her red carpet looks year after year. And we think her appearance on The Homesman premiere red carpet just might be one of her greatest looks yet. The actress wore a full-length strapless gown from the Oscar de la Renta autumn/winter 2014 collection, with the gorgeous coral colour complementing her hair and skin-tone wonderfully. Simple gold jewellery and a sleek up-do provided the flawless finishing touches.

John Galliano’s secretly been working with Russian perfumery L’Etoile

Well this is interesting… While those John Galliano/Oscar de la Renta rumours have been floating around in no real direction these past few months, John Galliano has been planning his comeback – but not in the way we might have expected. The designer has reportedly been working with Russian perfumery chain L’Etoile for the past few months, and although he’s been acting as a consultant, it’s being speculated that he will be announced as creative director very soon. L’Etoile is the largest perfumery in Russia, boasting 750 stores with over 10,000 perfume and beauty products from big names like Christian Dior and Chanel, to its own brand of make-up and accessories. According to WWD, an official statement about John Galliano and L’Etoile will be released within the next few days; will it be the creative director announcement? Your guess is as good as ours, but we’re excited either way! [Telegraph] [Image]

For the third year in a row, former Vogue Paris editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld will be hosting a fashion show for the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala in Cannes. And just like the two fashion shows before it, this year’s has a very distinctive theme… Carine’s first fashion show had a “black” theme, while last year’s, which was dedicated to Elizabeth Taylor, was all about gold. Expect to see gowns from the likes of Alexander McQueen, Alexander Wang, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Roberto Cavalli, Chanel, Christian Dior, Christopher Kane, Fendi, Giorgio Armani, Givenchy, Gucci and Tom Ford on the catwalk, all of which will be auctioned off to raise money for the wonderful and worthwhile cause. Harvey Weinstein to relaunch Charles James brand

It’s Thursday morning but we’re all still talking about the Met Gala that happened on Monday night. This year’s Met Gala honoured the fine work of Twentieth century Couturier Charles James, and we’re pretty excited to learn the news that film mogul Harvey Weinstein has agreed to manage the luxury fashion brand and give it new life! “Charles James was one of the most incredible couturiers in the history of fashion and this label deserves to be a household name in the same ranks as Chanel, Dior and Oscar de la Renta,” Harvey Weinstein. “There isn’t a single designer in high fashion who wouldn’t name him as a major influence. We are beyond thrilled to be spearheading the revival of this brand and bringing it back to the world’s finest retailers.” You can catch a retrospective of Charles James’ work at the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art this year. The Met Gala 2014: The best dressed!

All the big names in fashion, film, and music gathered at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City last night, for the highly anticipated Met Gala! This year, the museum was honouring Charles James, and the dress-code was a very simple (albeit slightly “boring” according to Marc Jacobs) “white tie and decorations”. Anyone familiar with the work of Charles James would know that elegant eveningwear was his thing, so they wouldn’t have gone wrong by donning the finest couture pieces with some elegant jewels. There were many ladies who absolutely nailed their looks, while some probably should have stayed home. Stella McCartney had a big moment on the red carpet, dressing the likes of Rihanna and Reese Witherspoon so flawlesslessly for the event, in two very different but equally stunning dresses. Rihanna went for her signature sexy look, while Reese was a vintage glamour goddess. Selena Gomez also wowed on the red carpet for us, looking very mature for just 21 years old in a bold deep purple Diane von Furstenberg dress. We also love how Gossip Girl stars Blake Lively and Leighton Meester were reunited at the Met Gala – they both looked amazing in  their respective Gucci Premiere and Emilio Pucci dresses. Not all of the ladies went for full-length or ballgown dresses (like Hayden Panettiere who looked like a Princess!) though – Solange Knowles and Lena Dunham were just two of the stars who went for something a little bit shorter. The impact definitely wasn’t lost though. Here are our best dressed celebs from last night’s Met Gala. Let us know who gets your vote in the comments below. Lily Allen covers Glamour UK’s June issue, talks about missing “free clothes and handbags”

June magazine covers are already starting to emerge, and we’re pretty excited that Glamour UK has chosen Miss Lily Allen (or Mrs Lily Rose Cooper if we’re being technical) as its June cover star. And it looks like she has waved goodbye to the multi-coloured hair and gone for a more natural – yet equally, if not more striking – colour instead. Lily Allen doesn’t beat around the bush which is why she makes a great interviewee. We love the answers she gave when she was asked about the real reason she returned to the music industry and the limelight. A girl after our own hearts… “I wasn’t good at staying at home all day, it didn’t suit me. I’m creative, it’s just who I am,” she told the mag. “I missed the positive feedback about my music from my fans. I missed the rush of performing. I missed the free clothes and handbags and the good tables in posh restaurants. I did!” We’ve seen Lily toting more than a few covetable handbags in her time (Chanel included) so we totally don’t blame her! You can read the rest of her interview and see her pose for more pics in Glamour UK’s June issue, out Monday.

Emma Stone covers American Vogue’s May issue!

Good things do indeed come to those who wait – why else would Anna Wintour wait ‘til all the other magazine covers have been released before debuting the American Vogue ones? The Vogue US May issue is solid proof that you save the best ‘til last, as it features Emma Stone – expertly photographed by Craig McDean – rocking a plethora of fabulously fashionable pieces on the cover and within the accompanying editorial. And her interview is a great read too, just as we expected, as we kind of like to think of Emma as our girl-next-door best friend. Inside the mag, Emma poses in threads from Christian Dior to Chanel and many more in-between, and also talks about her new films (The Amazing Spider-Man 2 included, naturally) and her boyfriend/Spidey himself, Andrew Garfield… “I think I’ve learned a lot by being around him,” she gushed. “And, you know, he is an incredibly important person to me. “It’s been fun working with him just because of who he is as an actor and person. I think it would be fun no matter what.” Aww, what a cutie! And judging by their appearance at The Amazing Spider-Man 2 premiere, we think their love is as strong as ever! You can read the rest of Emma’s interview in the Vogue US May issue.

MTV Movie Awards 2014: The best dressed!

Music and movie stars alike gathered in the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles last night, ready to take in the 2014 MTV Movie Awards action! The red carpet was a real mixed bag in terms of choice of outfits, as it was filled with both fun and fashionable pieces making for real versatility. Rihanna went sexy in a white Ulyana Sergeenko Couture number with a dangerously thigh high split (and she wasn’t afraid to show the crowd, either!) as did Rita Ora, who went the other way and wore a black Barbara Casasola dress with a provocative, plunging front. Going cute but high fashion were Lupita Nyong’o and Victoria Justice, who looked gorgeous in their respective Chanel and Atelier Versace dresses, while Nicki Minaj kept things surprisingly minimal and effortless in a black Alexander McQueen dress. Here’s who made our best-dressed list – don’t forget to let us know who your favourite is in the comments below! Bracelets: 4 Style Choices to Help You Build Your Jewelry Wardrobe

If you want to buy the best bracelets to express your personality, but you do not want to make a fashion error – there is no need to panic. You can add style to your wrists without overpowering your basic outfit options. Most fashion lovers know that their basic jewelry choices can be divided into four categories: modern, ethnic, antique and classic. A basic wardrobe should not only include items from each category, but also have diamond, tennis, pearl bracelets for everyday wear. When shopping for new jewelry use this simple guide to help choose the right pieces to help you create a cohesive and complementary wardrobe of baubles and bracelets. Classic Bracelets Some classic pieces of jewelry are a fashion must in every woman’s wardrobe – from a string of pearls to stud earrings. Classic bracelet options include round bracelets made of wood, metal, plastic, and strands of glass or plastic and gemstone beads. Cuff bracelets are another stylishly, classic jewelry investment. Gold-toned cuffs can dress up a sweater or a dress faster than any other piece of jewelry. If you gravitate towards small, classic accent pieces, pair three or four silver bangles with a crisp long-sleeved white shirt and a pair of dark-colored jeans and pumps for a casual lunch with friends. Modern Bracelets Modern jewelry options – a bracelet made of large gold beads, a bold yellow Lucite bangle or a crystal-encrusted cuff bracelet – makes a strong style statement. You can wear them also wear a healing crystal earring set, crystal bracelets, or other jewelry pieces for a bold look. In fact, a modern, statement bracelet should be the focal point of any outfit. Wear modern bracelets if you have a flair for the dramatic and like to use your accessories as conversation pieces. If you […]

Tod’s leather sandals: Yay or Nay?

We totally need a pair because… Well, sunnier days are a-knockin’, and we can’t think of a better (or more chicher) way of showing off that freshly done, Chanel spring/summer ’14-inspired painterly pedicure, than slipping into these Tod’s leather sandals, (£455). Although the monochrome palette is the winning factor – charged, naturally, with a dose of Italian glamour – it’s the comfortable style and wear-with-everything- appeal that’s tempting us towards that ‘Buy now’ button. Damn you, pretty shoe! It’s a certified YAY for these reasons… Flattering colours: There isn’t much a monochromatic sandal won’t go with, and the gold chain detail works to add that much needed ‘Riviera’ edge. You won’t struggle to come up with ensembles worthy of pairing with these beauties! Wear-with-anything-appeal: Whether it’s the perfect summer dress, or a smartly tailored look for work; these sandals promise to land you brownie points in the shoe department. But, maybe a NAY for these… Price: Although they won’t leave you limping with sore feet, your bank account will surely be at risk of falling in the red once you click these shoedrobe-completing specimens home. At £455 a pop, they’re pretty but pricey. Not weatherproof: Being Italian-made, expect nothing less than buttery-soft, tanned calf leather to adorn your feet. Now, we all know that plush leather and puddles don’t mix too well; and given our track record for unpredictable weather, you’ll be suffering from soggy sandal syndrome frequently. Are they worth the puddle-hopping hassle? Tod’s leather sandals, £455, available at My Theresa.

Clémence Poésy is back for Chloé perfume

Clémence Poésy is back for Chloé, as she has been asked to be the face of a brand new “sophisticated and seductive” fragrance to be released at the end of the year. You may remember that Clémence was the very gorgeous face of Chloé Eau de Parfum between 2008 and 2010 alongside Anja Rubik, but now she is going at it alone; and we are pretty excited to see the finished results! “I am very proud and honoured to represent Chloé fragrance again,” she said. “When Chloé approached me, I immediately accepted. “It was so evident for me to come back to a brand that I feel so connected to.” And it looks like the feeling is mutual, as the brand is pretty chuffed to see her return too… “Working with Clémence on the ad campaign has been such a joy,” added Clare Waight Keller, creative director of Chloé. “She captures in her spirit both the effortless, free nature of Chloé but also the playful charm that is so true to the Maison and what is so modern now.” We couldn’t agree more, and we cannot wait to see the ad campaign when it launches at the end of the year. Watch this space, because we predict it’ll be bigger and better than ever! [Grazia]

Is Kristen Stewart the new face of Nike?

Although she is already the face of Balenciaga and has a Chanel ad campaign coming out later this year, Kristen Stewart is still very much in demand as far as brand endorsement goes. The latest brand itching to sign her up is none other than Nike – something we think is an excellent fit for the former Twilight actress given her love for changing into trainers after a long, hard day on the red carpet. “It’s no secret how much Kristen loves Nikes” a ‘source’ reportedly said.  “She often changes into a pair of Nikes after walking the red carpet in heels. “Nike execs believe that with her tomboy cool image, Kristen would be the perfect celebrity spokeswoman to create some new excitement about the brand. Nike will have to roll out some serious money if they’re going to be able to close a deal with her. “It’s not the easiest deal to make, as Kristen has shunned dozens of offers to endorse products since her rise to fame in the Twilight films…She’s terribly self-conscious about seeing her face on products.” While we agree that K-Stew doesn’t seem to love the spotlight as much as some of her Hollywood colleagues, we think working with Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel might have boosted her confidence. What do you guys think? Do you think Kristen Stewart will make a great Nike brand ambassador? [RadarOnline]

Rihanna is Worst Dressed of the Week in Prada

After fashion killin’ it (‘scuse the pun) on the Balmain and Chanel front row, Rihanna took a, well, turn for the worse at the Miu Miu autumn/winter 2014 show earlier this week. Debuting a car crash of a look from the Prada autumn/winter 2014 collection, the far-from-bashful Barbadian paired this rather outré chill-blocker with a deep-cut, chevron-print sweater and thigh-high black stockings. As always, RiRi wasn’t short of an award-winning repertoire of accessories, pairing the look with black sunglasses, a statement ear cuff, purple neck scarf and a deep red lip. Black ankle-strap sandals and a healthy dose of the Take Care singer’s famed air-of-don’t-care rounded of yet another naturally eccentric front row look. But even a round-up of fitting accoutrements couldn’t save this look; there’s just too much going on here – even by Rihanna’s standards! So far this season, what have you made of Rihanna’s frenzied show appearances? Given her star is far from small, and top designers dress her all the time, is her attendance, or rather, lack of punctuality, at shows too much of a distraction? Has to be said, though: fashion month wouldn’t be half as much fun without the Only Girl In The World who’d dare to flash an ample amount of boobage, strategically covered with a fur snood. 5 Other unspeakable things that could happen in fashion

Do PRs not know the value of their lives (read: careers) anymore? Have they completely gone off their collective rockers, so to speak, and decided it’s time to shift Planet Fashion’s tectonic plates with a seating blunder? Well, that’s what happened, when The Anna Wintour was seated second row at the Valentino show earlier this week. SECOND row. Just take a few seconds to absorb that info-bomb. It was a moment carefully pointed out by Christina Binkley, fashion columnist for the Wall Street Journal, who was the first to Insta-capture the head turning moment, later responding to the influx of Instagram comments with: “Hey guys – she chose to sit second row. No one forced her. It was a gracious move.” Also, turns out, as reported by Fashionista, that seats for American publications at the show had been noticeably whittled down this year, which could explain the OMG bum-on-bench arrangement. But, still, is there a deeper meaning to Wintour’s shuffle back? Is she rewriting the ‘if you’re not front row, you don’t matter’ rule? And, above all, did she really give up her seat politely, or was it a cunning manoeuvre on Team Valentino PR’s part to get the conversation flowing beyond the dreamy clothes? Whilst you ponder the possibilities, here are five other unspeakable things that could happen in fashion, but haven’t so far. Phones at the ready, guys… Chanel swaps OTT shows for intimate presentations Just imagine: no glacial palaces or supermarket sweep layouts. If this happened, would it be the end of Chanel as we know it? Would Kaiser Karl and his ponytail lose their allure? Freebie riots aren’t fun in small spaces. Street style photographers slapped with a ban Imagine. JUST IMAGINE the possibilities of looking ‘normal’ at Fashion Week. Well, it would certainly take the […]

WATCH: The 86th Academy Awards (Oscars 2014): The best dressed!

The wait is finally over – the biggest red carpet day in Hollywood has officially arrived, and if you’ve been following us on Twitter, you’ll probably already know that we’ve been pretty excited about it! Popcorn, coffee, tablets (the technological kind), laptops and phones were on standby throughout the night to make sure we didn’t miss a single second of the 86th Academy Awards! We were waiting for 12 Years a Slave actress Lupita Nyong’o’s arrival with baited breath, and think she definitely saved the best dress for last. She stepped onto the red carpet in a custom-made Prada dress that came in a stunning duck egg blue colour, complete with the hottest accessory of the night: a sparkling head band! Cate Blanchett – another one of our red carpet faves – didn’t let us down with her sartorial choice either, looking sensational in a Giorgio Armani dress that she owned from the second she stepped out of her car. Charlize Theron wowed the crowd in a black Dior gown (it pains us to say it, but we think her Dior dress trumped Jennifer Lawrence’s one – we still love you though, J-Law!), as did Kate Hudson and Jessica Biel in their respective and sensational Atelier Versace and Chanel Couture dresses. And it goes without saying, but Angelina Jolie stole the show in her bedazzling Elie Saab Couture dress and more or less put everyone else in the shade when she and Brad Pitt arrived just in the nick of time. Once again, we think the stars outdid themselves on the red carpet this year, meaning we had a bit of a tough time narrowing down our ultimate favourites. Check out our highlights from the Oscars 2014 red carpet, and don’t forget to tell us who gets your best-dressed vote […]

Paris Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Lanvin, Balmain, Balenciaga & more

The celebs were out in force for the third day of Paris Fashion Week – and we don’t just mean on the front rows! Some of the most in-demand supermodels walked the runway for some of the biggest fashion designers in the world. Here are our highlights from the latest goings on at Paris Fashion Week: LANVIN AW14 Rihanna joined Emma Roberts and other such famous faces to witness the Lanvin autumn/winter 2014 collection first-hand; we’re not jealous at all, honest! Alber Elbaz presented a versatile yet somewhat experimental collection this time around – we believe his exact words were Experimental, Extravagant and Extreme – ensuring that fur and ruffles played a huge part in his light and fluffy new season range. Asymmetric silhouettes and Chanel inspired tweed also made an appearance. The silk dresses were a refreshingly new yet reassuringly familiar addition to the collection, adding the signature Lanvin elegance to the proceedings. Red carpet faves, for sure! NINA RICCI AW14 Jessica Alba watched the Nina Ricci autumn/winter 2014 collection from her comfy seat in the front row, which has got us pretty excited as we imagine what new-season pieces she will be wearing over the next few months as she goes about her daily business or rocks up on a red carpet. Sparkling, shimmering eveningwear was the highlight of the collection, with the designer not being shy of an embellishment or two. Or six. Wool skirt suits, chic jackets, cosy cashmere jumpers, and much more! BALMAIN AW14 Although there were a lot of big faces on the Balmain front row – did we mention Rihanna was one of the schlebs sitting pretty on the FROW? – some of the world’s biggest and hottest models of the moment walked the show too. It was a star-studded affair all round, […]

Paris Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Gareth Pugh, H&M, Vionnet & more

Day 2 of Paris Fashion Week brought us some versatile sartorial new-season delights from some of the fashion big guns such as Gareth Pugh, H&M, Alexis Mabille, Vionnet and Dries van Noten, among others. GARETH PUGH AW14  We think Gareth Pugh gets the award for most talked-about and most theatrical show, as he sent some of his models down the runway with wind-up keys on their backs making them look like a cross between wall-clocks and wind-up dolls. If they weren’t walking around with heavy machinery on their backs, they had very tall – and probably very hard to maneuver in – hats on their heads. Although there were many distractions on the Gareth Pugh autumn/winter 2014 runway, we did manage to pay attention to the clothes too, and discovered that the collection went in yet another different direction to the one we saw last season; yet it was pretty similar in that signature Gareth Pugh only-something-Lady-Gaga-would-wear aesthetic. Reflective, shiny materials juxtaposed with an abundance of plastic and over-the-top fluffy fur, exaggerated silhouettes and so much more. H&M AW14  Paris Fashion Week isn’t just about the big designers, as H&M came out to play by presenting its autumn/winter 2014 collection to a star-studded front row (Miranda Kerr, – the new face of the brand –Jessica Alba and Beyonce’s little sis, Solange Knowles, were all in attendance) at the Grand Palais, otherwise known as the home of the highly anticipated Chanel shows. We saw one of the most wearable and covetable collections hit the runway, with everything from sparkly sequin sweater dresses to comfy cosy cashmere rollneck jumpers all making an appearance. The colour palette was bright and bold to make up for the extreme wintry pieces (the bright orange turtle neck jumper is an MFL fave!), and we predict everyone […]

New York Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Jenny Packham, Vera Wang, Proenza Schouler & more

New York Fashion Week has well and truly got us geared up for London Fashion Week which kicks off tomorrow! The last of the shows – from Michael Kors to Oscar de la Renta to Jenny Packham, and more – certainly didn’t let us down, as we were met with everything from red carpet Oscar-worthy ensembles to essential winter cover-ups to all else in-between. Kate Middleton’s Jenny Packham look at the National Portrait Gallery was an exellent reminder of how wow-worthy the designer’s pieces can be – a thought which was only reiterated when we saw the autumn/winter 2014 collection float down the runway. Although the collection was reportedly inspired by Bianca Jagger, there were sartorial influences dating as far back as the 1930s in the collection; the glittering gold dress was a particular favourite of ours, and one which we predict might appear on an awards season red carpet this year. Vera Wang, who has dressed a number of our fave A-listers including the most recent celeb bride Kaley Cuoco who went against the grain and opted for a pink wedding down, went for romance – but not as we know it. Dark romance was the theme for the designer’s autumn/winter 2014 collection, with lots of black and charcoal coloured pieces making their debut on the Big Apple catwalk. There was also an abundance of tartan – a definite AW14 trend we need to look out for over the next few weeks! Although Blake Lively and Freida Pinto were among the famous faces who sat on the front row wearing some very feminine and floral Michael Kors spring/summer 2014 pieces, the designer’s latest collection had a hint of androgyny about it. Rich, luxe fabrics were juxtaposed with casual cool tailoring, offering us a very covetable autumn/winter collection that we’ll […]

Harrods and British Airways team up for catwalk shows in the sky

Remember when Karl Lagerfeld transformed the Grand Palais into an Air Chanel plane for the much talked about spring/summer 2012 Haute Couture show? Well it looks like Kaiser Karl was once again ahead of the times, as catwalks shows in the sky are now actually going to be a thing! Harrods has teamed up with British Airways to make this happen, and will be using the A380 route from London to Johannesburg  for the very fashionable journey. “Harrods is delighted to have partnered with British Airways, bringing together two iconic British brands, to create a spectacular event,” said Michael Ward, a spokesperson for Harrods. “Celebrating the exceptional design of the A380, we were able to present the talent and creativity of our most respected British fashion designers, in a unique experience at 30,000ft.” That does sound terribly exciting – especially as the debut flight reportedly featured looks from Victoria Beckham to to Matthew Williamson to Stella McCartney, but don’t flock to your nearest travel agent to book your ticket just yet, as the flights are currently press-only. Still, this might be available to the public in the near future tool so cross your fingers and watch this space! [Vogue] [Image]

7 fab Fashion Month essentials!

For some people, February is all about Valentine’s Day, but for all the budding fashionistas in the world, the month of Feb is all about fashion. New York Fashion Week, London Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week – all four cities which have their own distinctive and irreplaceable style! So, dressing for Fashion Month – regardless of the city or how much show-watching you’ll actually be doing – has to be done right. You need to get the dressing for the chill and dressing stylishly balance just right. We think we’ve got it sorted with our seven suggestions below; what say you? 1. Ah the great Fashion Week footwear dilemma! Do you go for sky high heels to complement your cute dress and to be the same height as the rest of the ladies and models or do you go for comfort? Nine times out of 10 we would have gone for the former, but since flat shoes are loved by the likes of Alexa Chung and Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel, we think we’re going to go for flats this season. Plus just think how warm these boots will be? 2. The bag is probably one of the most important accessories. If you’re a high fashion magazine editor, a celebrity or someone who won’t be working at Fashion Week, by all means go for an adorable little clutch bag that fits a mobile phone and extra lippie – especially if you’re being chauffeured around from show to show. But for the rest of us who have to slum it and walk to shows, a good sized bag to fit everything from iPads to chargers to make-up bags to an extra pair of flats to food (yes we all need to refuel between shows) is absolutely vital! 3. Get Alexa Chung’s Carven/flats look

As we learnt last week while watching the latest Chanel Couture show, heels are pretty much a thing of the past as it’s all about flats, baby! Alexa Chung is one lady who didn’t need Karl Lagerfeld to convince her to step out in flats, as she’s been rocking the heel-less trend for years, which is probably why she does it so well. One of her latest looks is a perfect example of this, hence why we are more than happy to admit to stealing her style. It isn’t the cheapest of outfits this week, but both Carven dress and Charlotte Olympia flats can be classed as “investment pieces” that can be worn season after season. Winner! First look: Riccardo Tisci for Nike

We told you that Riccardo Tisci would be collaborating with Nike on an exciting project a few weeks ago, and now the cat is officially out the bag. The Givenchy designer has teamed up with the sportswear brand on a four-piece collection of basketball trainers taking the shape of the classic Air Force 1, and we have the very first look in the picture above. And with Chanel making trainers the “it” shoe of the season thanks to its Couture show last week, they’ve never been so desirable… “The shoe is universal yet somehow very personal,” Riccardo Tisci explained. “I travel all over the world, and I see people wearing the Air Force 1, and they wear it in so many different ways. And so I was thinking, what is the essence of the Air Force 1? And how do I take that essence and make my own statement? “For me the Air Force 1 is not about gender, it’s not about a particular city, nor is it about a certain style. The community decides. It’s democratic. It’s love.” Do you think love is good word to describe the trainers? Do you like Riccardo Tisci’s designs? Let us know if you’ll be treating yourself (or someone you love) to a cheeky pair. [Telegraph]

Due a wardrobe detox? So say the £400 worth of unworn clothes in your wardrobe

After witnessing the sporty spectacular that was the Chanel Couture show, you’re probably budgeting for your next haul of shimmering sneakers, right? Well, just hold fire! Because, according to a recent survey released by luxury resale clothing site Vestiaire Collective, the average British woman has over £1900 worth of clothes, handbags and accessories in her wardrobe. Doesn’t sound like much, does it? Read on. Commissioned by public opinion poll YouGov, the survey of 1000 women also revealed further, rather shocking statistics about our hoarding shopping habits. In 2013, British women left an average of £404 work of clothes unworn, while one in three women admit to forgetting what actually lurks in the depths of their wardrobes. A staggering 80% of women own fashion items they haven’t worn in the past year, while 26% of those surveyed revealed the reason for ditching certain items was because they were wrong size or fit. But, what does this scramble of statistics actually size up to? Is there any way to put our fashion waste into perspective? Assessing the numbers at hand, Vestiaire Collective estimates that this could mean a whopping £10.1 billion worth of fashion lying paid for but unworn in women’s wardrobes. Wake up call, much? Whether fast fashion (we’re looking at you, Zara), the ease of online shopping or increasingly unhealthier lifestyles are to blame for our addiction to impulse buying with regretful after-effects, we don’t know. But, maybe it’s time we took a lesson in recycling from the queen of repeat-outfits, Kate Middleton, and opted for a wardrobe detox, instead. We’re in, are you? [Image]

The vintage-inspired Chanel she wore last week got us really excited about things to come, but we feel she might have missed a trick at the London premiere of Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.  Although Keira looked very chic and elegant in a black Proenza Schouler outfit from the spring/summer 2014 collection, we don’t think it screamed “I’m back on the red carpet with a vengeance; I am a fashion goddess, her me roar” as we were expecting. There’s nothing wrong with this outfit, the styling or indeed Keira’s flawless hair and make-up – the red lip in particular is to die for – but we were expecting her to dominate the red carpet with a fierce sweeping dress from one of her go-to designers. A great look, but we were expecting something bigger from one of our red carpet favourites; where do you stand?

Lupita Nyong’o and Elizabeth Olsen for Miu Miu’s SS14 ad campaign

We told you yesterday that Lupita Nyong’o would be taking over the fashion and on-screen worlds this year, and it looks like we were onto something. Not only did she wow us on the Golden Globes red carpet and burst onto the latest Dazed and Confused cover, but now she has a fashion ad campaign under her belt too. From Miu Miu, no less! Lupita is joined by some of our other young silver screen faves in the Miu Miu spring/summer 2014 ad campaign, and they are Elizabeth Olsen (who is chanelling Rapunzel, with her super-long, super-sleek locks), Elle Fanning and Bella Heathcote. “The actresses’ poses, full of personality, convey their diverse points of view, effortlessly translating the new spirit of the Miu Miu woman”, Miuccia Prada said of the campaign. The girls were shot by Inez and Vinoodh, and have all been styled to a vintage yet totally unique and individual theme. Which one is your favourite? [RCFA]
