Keira Knightley in Chanel

While many women envy Keira Knightley’s super slim figure and sultry plumped-up pout, there’s something else they can now, regrettably, add to their list – her impeccable fashion sense. Sporting an ultra chic new bob in Paris last week, Ms. Knightley attended the Chanel spring/summer 2011 show in style, and dressed head to toe in the luxury French label at the Grand Palais, the British actress looked every inch the Parisian goddess. The Chanel muse was bang on trend with this gold vintage flapper-inspired dress, paying homage to autumn’s ever-stylish beige tones. A black tweed jacket, meanwhile, gave Kiera a sharp, tailored look, making a cool contrast to her girly sequined frock. And to top the outfit off? A quilted Chanel chain strap bag, of course – we don’t think Coco would’ve had it any other way. From Bend it like Beckham to international superstar, this home-grown beauty has certainly reached new heights in the style stakes.

Blake Lively in Chanel

She’d been spotted several times last week at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week, from having dinner with Karl Lagerfeld to sitting next to Vogue Editor Anna Wintour, but actress Blake Lively made her biggest impression when making her claim for the red carpet at the premier for her new film The Town at Saturday night’s Toronto International film festival. The 23-year-old Gossip Girl star was spotted painting the town red in a scarlet sequin Chanel couture dress, which clung to her in all the right places – and the roses attached to her lower hips gave her an even sexier hourglass figure. Flaunting her endless legs, Blake kept everything matching from the red courts to her lipstick to even the ring on her finger, but although she dazzled us with her sexy image we can’t help but think that maybe this matching look could of been broken up with a bit of black.

First look: Zooey Deschanel for Rimmel

Is it bad to admit that until last night we’d sort of forgotten about Rimmel’s new Zooey Deschanel coup? Well, let’s just say we quickly remembered when we caught a glimpse of the first ad campaign starring the actress at Coty’s bloggers event yesterday. And we don’t think we’ll be forgetting again any time soon. The also singer and style icon is fronting Rimmel’s new Lash Accelerator mascara, which promises to encourage your lashes to grow (more on that soon), and is set for release at the beginning of September. We caught a glimpse of the new campaign last night and, naturally, Zooey looks absolutely stunning in that effortlessly pretty way she seems to project so easily – and may we just say, those big doe eyes are the perfect tools to promote a mascara. Apparently there’s more to come from Ms. Deschanel too, with campaigns for other Rimmel products already queuing up – we’re aware we now sound a little obsessed, but as the first non-British girl to front a campaign for the beauty brand, Zooey’s working wonders for Rimmel; she’s got that accessible beauty nailed. Congrats all round, we think. Psst, there’s more on the Coty bloggers event coming next week…

Karl Lagerfeld’s latest Chanel film

Remember a couple of months ago when Karl Lagerfeld unveiled his first film in Cannes? Well, we had an inkling then that it wouldn’t be his last and how right we were. The inimitable designer has just launched his second short film, Shopping Fever. And, judging by the title, it sounds like something we can definitely get on board with. It’s designed to be a trailer for a film that doesn’t actually exist (naturally), and predictably or not, it’s jam-packed with Chanel’s AW10 pre-collection. The fashion film stars Chanel favourite Abbey Lee Kershaw, Dree Hemingway and Baptiste Giabiconi (Lagerfeld’s muse, no less) looking suitably stylish – and smug – as they’re surrounded by Chanel shopping bags, according to Elle UK. Well, we’d be pretty pleased with ourselves too if our floor was smothered in Chanel bags – shopping or otherwise. Watch the film and get glued to your screens here. Now excuse us, we’re off to find our bottle of Nouvelle Vague.

Chanel Coco Cocoon Preview

The other day Chanel hosted a small cocktail event in their showroom to preview their latest Coco Cocoon collection which hits stores in early August. The showroom is gorgeous! Sadly no photography is allowed inside, but I was able to get my hands on some of their professionally shot handbag images. Coco Cocoon is a relatively new addition to the Chanel family – the first line made its debut at the end of 2009 and was supported by an ad campaign featuring Lily Allen. Each handbag in the sportier, more casual collection is made of either leather or lightweight nylon and many of them are reversible. This season, for the first time, there are some orylag fur-accented bags in the mix and one matte-finish alligator skin bag (somewhat of a surprise given that the main RTW Fall 2010 Chanel accessory collection was crafted exclusively using faux-fur). Among the colors in the Fall line are Blue, Charcoal and Light Grey, Ivory, Cobalt Blue, Chocolate, Silver, and of course, Black.

Teen Vogue cover girls: Jourdan Dunn and Chanel Iman

Teen supermodels Jourdan Dunn and Chanel Iman feature in a double whammy cover shoot for Teen Vogue’s November issue. In a rare shoot, the two young teens appear on the fashion magazine’s cover together; surprising when there has been much speculation about the pair’s rocky relationship. Regarding competition, Jourdan told Teen Vogue. “There aren’t a lot of us, but instead of sticking together, we’re pitted against each other. People will say things in Chanel’s ear like, ‘Jourdan is taking your spot’, and then they’ll say to me, ‘Don’t trust Chanel’. The problem they face? There’s only room for one black girl. ‘You’re being told, ‘So and so is only booking one black girl. It’s either you or Jourdan, said Chanel. The girls, however, are making history as two of the most successful black women in the industry. Not since Naomi Campbell has a black model generated so much intrigue as Chanel, who landed her first Vogue cover at 16 and is currently one of the youngest Victoria’s Secret models in the label’s history at 18. Clearly her pose-practising as a child paid off. 19-year-old London-born Jourdan, meanwhile, made history in her own right by walking the runway at Prada, the first black model to walk a Prada show since Naomi Campbell 10 years ago, might we add, as well as winning 2008’s Model of the Year award. Thankfully, the fashion world is beginning to diversify and the two teen supers have united. “The only way to improve the situation is to come together, said Chanel. At least they’ve got their heads screwed on. The November issue of Teen Vogue hits newsstands on October 13th.

Get the look: Coco Chanel

A thin, claret-coloured pout, flawless alabaster skin with just a hint of peach blush, angular jet-black brows and numerous strings of pearls. Every fashion icon has a particular image, in many cases a famous photograph, that becomes the standard but extraordinary library shot by which we remember them. For Audrey Hepburn say, there’s the chignon, tight black dress and cigarette holder. Marilyn, that white dress. For Coco, it’s all pearls, pout, and those inky brows.

Anne Hathaway loves Chanel

Anne Hathaway has an “irrational” love for Chanel. The ‘Bride Wars’ star admits she would buy a dress made by the French fashion house even if she didn’t like if it. The 26-year-old actress said: “I will always love Chanel and I am completely irrational when it comes to their clothes. I will see a dress and not like it but when I hear it’s Chanel, I suddenly have to have it.” When it comes to everyday fashion, Anne has a much more relaxed role model , Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet.

Her face also looks a lot smoother and airbrushing expert Chris Bickmore claims Keira’s appearance has definitely been enhanced.

Reviews: Coco Before Chanel

Pre-college I spent 13 years at the Lycee Francais in New York, so it’s little surprise that today a good chunk of my friends live in Paris. Needless to say I’ve been getting second-hand reviews of Anne Fontaine’s biopic “Coco Avant Chanel for weeks now. The film, which premiered in France back in April, just hit theaters in the UK and will be on screens state-side September 25th. I caught one of the advance screenings and left completely taken aback. I was not expecting to be as moved as I was, but the film was a truly powerful portrayal of Chanel’s rise to the top.

Chanel Iman’s a model student

Chanel Iman used to study modelling poses. The stunning teenager was desperate to become a model when she was younger, so when she was 12 her mother gave her several fashion magazines to study to help her perfect her look. Chanel – who has appeared in catwalk shows for Dolce and Gabbana and Marc Jacobs – said: “We always had Vogue in our house. But, when I was around 12, my mom finally took me seriously about modelling and put a stack of magazines in front of me, then told me to study all the poses. The ones I loved the most were in Vogue.”

Chanel cruise collections come to Venice

Last night Karl Lagerfeld presented the Chanel Cruise collections in the Italian city of Venice. It was of course the most beautiful of settings, and is probably the most suited city to the elegance and romance that surrounds the Chanel brand. The catwalk took place on the boardwalk on the Lido beach, a true dream setting and again perfect for cruise. The invitation had an image of Coco sitting on the Lido beach. On the perfect setting Lagerfeld said: “Venice has a genuine dark and mysterious side to it that fascinated me. I really like the Italian spirit and the Venetian lifestyle, and let’s not forget that Coco Chanel came back to Venice for 10 years.

Keira Knightley is all shoulders in Chanel

The attack of the sharp shoulders has officially begun. Shoulders pads dominated fashion week and we were wondering when we’d start to spot our favourite celebrities channelling the eighties trend. Last night at Kensington Palace, Keira Knightley joined her boyfriend Rupert Friend to celebrate his role in Young Victoria. An ambassador for Chanel, Keira looked sophisticated and stunning (and extremely tiny) in a white knee length dress with a mini bolero inspired collar and of course shoulder pads. Surprisingly Keira pulls off big shoulders quite well right? So the verdict is this ladies – start rummaging through all those old clothes in the attic that you thought you’d never see again. We have a feeling big shoulders won’t be a fleeting trend.

The return of the supermodel: Jerry Hall for Chanel

We told you that due to the very mean and evil credit crunch that designers would be turning to more commercial, established models rather than taking risks with ‘new faces’ or paying the fees of those catwalk strutters. But the shining light at the end of the tunnel is that all this drama has brought back our favourite supermodels. We’ve recently seen Claudia Schiffer for Yves Saint Laurent and now Jerry Hall is the new face of Chanel accessories. And she looks particularly fabulous. Karl Lagerfeld’s inspiration for the shoot came from Colette’s novel Cheri – a love story set in post war Paris during the 1920s and centred around a young man and his older female lover. Jerry is our heroine in the Chanel shoot whilst model Baptiste Giabiconi is Cheri. (And if you want to feel really in the know, Cheri is being released as a movie this year starring Rupert Friend and Michelle Pfeiffer). The shoot looks gorgeous; Jerry at her most glamorous oozes that Chanel style. Karl Lagerfeld explained the concept behind the shoot: “It was the idea of seduction that is summarized here that appeals to me. One of a very young man fascinated and attracted by what a woman does: her wardrobe, her perfume, her movements, her allure, etc.” And what man couldn’t help but be attracted to a woman as stunning as Jerry? We are loving the whole 1920s delicate silks and lace look. Really very beautiful. Oh it’s a very stylish affair! [

The Pursuit of the Classic Chanel Bag

I’ve been lusting after a classic black, caviar Chanel bag for some time now. Whenever I come across someone carrying one, I feel a twinge of envy and admiration. The luxurious look of the quilted lambskin and the signature linked chain and logo just epitomize the style, class and glamour that Coco, herself, embodied. Even though I can feasibly buy one of these bags, it’s hard for me to rationalize plunking down a few thousand dollars on a handbag, no matter how fabulous and timeless it is. At the same time, I don’t think I will feel fashionably fulfilled until I have my hands on one. {democracy:25}

We understand that women need to embrace bright colours in their wardrobes from time to time, but is it really necessary to embrace so many in so little time? Although something Chanel will always be on the wish list, we think its best to go ahead and save that small fortune for an item that reminds us a tad less of our favourite childhood sprite.
